Marketing Taco Bell
INTRODUCTION
The company I have chosen to base my assignment on is Taco Bell. It is a leading Mexican style fast–food chain serving tacos, burritos, signature
quesadillas, Border BowlsВ®, nachos and other specialty items. Currently, Taco Bell serves more than 35million consumers each week in
approximately 5,600 restaurants in the United States of America. It is recognized as the best Mexican fast–food chains in the United States of America
(Yum! Brands, 2010). This fast–food chain plans on introducing its products in Malaysia.
MARKETING ANALYSIS (SWOT)
Strengths.
Strengths refer to core competencies and positive attributes that give Taco Bell an advantage in meeting the needs of its consumers. The strength of
Taco Bell is when it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Threats. The threats include external factors that could put Taco Bell's business at risk. In Malaysia, the main threat rises from its competitor in the
same market which is McDonalds. Taco Bell needs to be constantly revising their prices and menus in order to keep up with McDonald's offers
(Fujinaka, 1996). Besides that, the new researches and the raised awareness among the publics about the harmful health impacts of fast food
consumption is a threat to Taco Bell's fast food menus. The ingredients such as sugar, oil and salt which are in the fast foods being offered, are thus
consumed in low proportions by the aware and educated consumers (Taco Bell,2010).
MARKETING SEGMENTATION In Malaysia, Taco Bell should cater to a well defined target market in order to market their product successfully.
The major bases for segmentation are geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioral. The geographic positioning of any business is
important in the success of a business. In Malaysia, Taco bell should be located in the heart of urban areas such at Kuala Lumpur or Georgetown
where the population density is at its highest. Climate aspect of the location would not be an issue as the weather throughout Malaysia is considerably
fine. In demographic segmentation, Taco Bell as a fast–food outlet should target mainly to teenagers and small kids as they are the ones who are either

Analysis Of Don 't Blame The Eater
Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who work at fast–food establishments or even major
corporate heads of these billion dollar fast–food chains allow their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast risks they
could embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings up valid points on how fast–food is harmful to one's body in
"Don't Blame the Eater,". Zinczenko is able to effectively argue against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader that the
consumer is the victim while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct tone and colorful diction
results in a compelling case that supports his accusations of manipulation by the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks questions to support his arguments
and guide the reader to what he believes to be actually true. He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who sued McDonald's for
their obesity the same as the case of middle–aged men suing Porsche for their speeding tickets? (Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men
suing someone else for something that was their own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to children who shouldn't be
blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he asks relates to what fast–food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with;
"shouldn't we

TACO BELL CASE
1. Draw a diagram of the process using the format in Exhibit 7.3.
2. Consider a base case where a customer arrives every 40 seconds and the Customer Service Champion can handle 120 customers per hour. There are
two Food Champions, each capable of handling 100 orders per hour. How long should it take to be served by the restaurant (from the time a customer
enters the kiosk queue until her food is delivered)? Use queuing models to estimate this.
О»=Arrival Rate Ој=Service Rate
Based on M/M/1 Model
So, О»=360040=90 Customers per hour ОјS (Service Champion)= 120 Customers per hourОјF (Food Champion)= 200 Customers per hour

For the type of analysis done in this case what are the key assumptions? What would be the impact on this analysis if the assumptions ware not
true? Assumption| Impact if it was not true| Customer arrival pattern is Poisson| If the customers arriving at Taco Bell Did not fulfill the
assumption to be characterized as Poisson arrival pattern the above calculation would have been wrong and other more complex model would
need to be used in order to determine correct values.| There is unlimited space for the cars waiting in line| The number of cars waiting in line
would have to be no larger than the number of space available, so calculations carried out basing on M/M/1 Model would be unrealistic.| The two
services are independent| If this assumption is not met we would meet to use more sophisticated models to provide this analysis.| Service Champion
is never helping the Food Champions, even if a complicated order is placed.| As per case in reality Service Champion sometimes need to help Food
Champions so the time it takes to serve customers would increase.| Service pattern is exponential| If the service pattern were not exponential (i.e. it
was constant) we would need to use different Model to carry out the analysis. | 8. Could this type of analysis be used by other service type businesses?

At the time of early 17th century, people only used images, visual devices and posters to advertise because advertising on television and newspaper
are not used to yet. In 1792, after the Pennsylvania Gazette was published by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia advertising on newspaper became
popular. In the 21th century, companies more focus on advertising by using a profession agencies and also nowadays, technology is very advancing so

Taco Bell's Success
Did Taco Bell's success result from a top down or bottom–up approach to change? What situations drove this change, and what leadership approach did
John Martin use? What was the old (previous) leadership style and what was its limitation?
Taco Bell's success resulted from a top down approach to change.
Along with the new organizational structure came the job position of
Market Manager. Management added this new position to send a strong signal that they wanted different behavior. They wanted people to be broader
managers, good at managing P & L, to be decisive and to take ownership. The Market Managers had a lot of responsibility because management had
pushed down a large deal of decision making.

The changes that John Martin implemented were incremental and continuous. Some of these changes included remodeling, new signage, drive through
windows, modern looking uniforms, and increased seating capacity. Martin also introduced new items to the menu like nachos, taco salad, and
Mexican pizza.
The level of management that was eliminated was the District
Manager position. District Managers basically watched over the shoulder of the Restaurant Manager making sure everything was alright.
Now the job of Market Managers (formerly District Managers) was to be a coach as well as being a business leader.
Before the changes implemented by John Martin the organizational table looked like this:
Vice President–General Manager (3)
Vice President–Operations (3)
Zone Director–Operations (13)
Area Managers (60)
District Managers (320)
Restaurant Managers (1,800)
Assistant Restaurant Managers (3,500)
After the changes made by John Martin the organizational table looked like this:

Restaurant General Manager
Assistant Restaurant General Manager

Taco Bell Company– Strategic Plan
Corporate Mission and Goals
Taco Bell was founded in 1951 by American Entrepreneur Glen Bell. Bell was the very first person to introduce Mexican food to the fast food
industry (1). He was born on September 3, 1923, in Lynwood, California and served in the Marine Corps during World War II and returned back to
California after his service (2). He then opened and sold his first take–out hot dog stand called Bell's Drive–In, by 1952 (2). During his travel Bell grew
a love for Mexican food and he began selling tacos from a side window starting at 19 cents (2).
Mexican tacos usually were soft and Bell came up with the crisp taco for fast food ease and proved to be successful. Bell partnered a restaurant and
opened three "Taco Tias" in the San Bernardino area (2). "Wanting to grow, Bell sold the restaurants, forming a new partnership that opened four El
Tacos (2)." Bell wanted to do business solo, so he sold the El Tacos to his partners and opened the firstTaco Bell in 1962 and franchised his business
starting in 1964 (2). Taco Bell has grown to become the nation's leading Mexican–style fast food restaurant chain and Bell eventually resigned as
Chairman of the Board in 1975 (2). In 178 Bell sold the food chain restaurant to PepsiCo, Inc (2). On January 17, 2010, in Rancho Santa Fe,
California, Bell passed away (1). The company continues to grow and expanding locally and internationally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Quick Service Food Industry
Americans love efficiency, and they love to eat, thus, the reason for the quick service food industry (QSR). The restaurant industry has been slightly
unstable as the economy climbs out of recession, and families' slowly gain income to allow for a night to dine out. As a whole, the restaurant industry
– everything from full service to fast food – accounts for 47% of this year's food dollar share, while supermarkets claim the majority, accounting for
53%. Within the restaurant industry, fast food restaurants were the only sub industry to show positive guest traffic in the first quarter with a .8%
increase, as compared to 2013.
Because QSR is an oligarchy industry – a few companies dominate the market: McDonald's, Chick–fil–a, Burger ... Show more content on

Of the companies that have experimented with this concept, they have found success in frequently changing the deals offered. Moreover, these deals
offered by the restaurants encourage the consumer to purchase more while at the store; same–store sales in fast food restaurants increased 1.6% in
January of 2014, and 3.2% by April. Still, the industry is experiencing pressure from lack of sales, and to counteract this, McDonalds' CEO, Donald
Thompson, and CFO, Peter Bensen, announced in April 2014 that the company will be cutting costs in factors of production, but no specifics were
released. Yum! Brand doesn't feel the heat with their worldwide sales growth of 4% in the 1st quarter of 2014; their brands include KFC,Taco Bell, and
Pizzahut. Other chains are searching for alternatives to expand their companies and increase profit. Panera Bread and Chipotle have ventured into the
catering industry, which at the fast food level has few competitors. They now offer their products in large quantities for events, and Chipotle even offers
a customizable option – no salsa on your burrito, no problem. Chipotle implemented this idea in January of 2013; as of May 2014 they've seen
comparable sales grow 13.4%. Some chains took an alternative approach to increase sales by selling branded goods; for example, Dunkin Donuts sells
their brand of coffee, as does Starbucks.
Many companies are still healing from the blow of the 2008 recession.

The Beginning of Taco Bell
In 1946, Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell and he opened a hot dog stand in San Bernadino in California. He was 23 years old at this time. Just a
few years later, he opened Bell's Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in San Bernardino. The sauce he used in the hot dogs is the same sauce used in the tacos
he later created. While operating his new businesses, he noticed that a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Cafe was becoming famous for its hard–shelled
tacos. For two years, he dined at the Mitla Cafe very frequently in order to reverse–engineer their taco recipe. Throughout the years, he became very
good friends with the owners of Mitla Cafe and they showed him how to make the tacos. By 1952, Glen Bell opened up his own taco stand and called
it Taco–Mia.

make the most sense to outsource the actual mixing of ingredients to large suppliers who can then distribute. Outsourcing in some cases can cut

distribute to large restaurants we would want to match with a supplier who could provide them with IBC's or intermediate bulk containers. These

an area with high youth population, for example; around school or colleges. This will allow them to reach out their targeted customers easily and will
further increase sales. Taco Bell had aimed to expand further into the Indian market by opening more outlets around the nation, this would definitely

The consumer discretionary sector is sensitive to pricing changes in commodities prices. Over the past 20 years, the prices of chicken have more than
doubled, posing a risk from the cost side of Yum! Brands. If these price hikes continue, Yum would face a challenge because its cost might be rising
higher than it can raise prices to consumers because of the competitive nature of the industry.
Oversaturation in certain markets: In the United States alone there is at least one McDonald's in every town along with another 2 –3 rival competitors.
That is not even taking into consideration the other competition present. For example, a supermarket, grocery store, convenience store, local deli's,
even home cooking, all represent more competition which means more competition for market share.
To overcome these issues, YumBrand must focus more on product technology or research and developments which will make a real difference in the
products they offers other than chickens in order to maintain strong relationships with valuable customers and look for a cheaper chicken supplier
without affecting the quality. Overall, Yum Brand is strong enough to deal with these

Commercial on T.V.: Ronald McDonald Likes Taco Bell
I do not often pay attention to commercials on the television but recently one caught my eye advertising Taco Bell's new breakfast menu. The
commercial consisted of several gentlemen stating their names, all named Ronald McDonald, eating some of the products, and stating that they like
Taco Bell's breakfast items. All the gentlemen in the commercial participated in a focus group where they got to try the product first before giving
their opinion. It was kind of like getting word of mouth advertising the way the commercial was set up. I found it amusing because Ronald McDonald
is the name of the mascot of McDonalds which is in competition with Taco Bell. This was a marketing concept not an accident and it is pretty clever.
The first P of marketing is product, or in this case service, the commercial was about Taco Bell'sbreakfast service. The service is about giving people
another fast food breakfast option. Taco Bell offers some novel concepts and familiar favorites to typical fast food breakfast options. I do not feel
that there is a specific demographic or group of people that the service is for. I think it is just for the general public. It's a convenience service where
they offer breakfast food fast that is easy to eat. If I had to choose a target consumer group for the service it would be people that already eat fast food
breakfast elsewhere. As far as promotions go the television advertisement was effective in getting my attention. However this commercial was more

The Importance Of Food In My Life And My Family Life
Food it is something that we need to survive, it is essential for us as a species to grow and be healthy. Some people see food as something that they
need to live, but some people see it as something more than something that we need to do. I am person who loves food. Food has been a huge part of
my life and my family life. Food is not just something that tastes good, it gives me memories of when me and my dad when to go get ice cream or
what we were eating for Thanksgiving. I am going to be talking about food and how it affects me in my life. First I am going to talk about how I feel
about food and how important it is for me. Then I will discuss what role food plays in my life and what food I eat. Food is ingrained in are daily
culture, we see food everywhere on billboards on TV we even see it on are phones. I believe that food is such a daily occurrence in our life that we
forget how much we actually eat and see it and talk about it. I personally love to eat food. Eating food is one of those experiences that cannot mimic
by doing something else. I consume all sorts of food from fast food to high–end restaurants. Food it isn't just the physical object, every single dish of
food has a story behind that dish. When I was a kid my mother and I went to Lowe's to get a birthday present for my dad. As I walked into the store
I thought we were getting him a new tool. But I ended up finding out we got him this grilled call an Weber. When it came time for birthday he opened
it and immediately set up. He put charcoal on the bottom of the Weber on the sides and then put lighter fluid on the charcoal and lit it on fire. Then he
waited till the charcoal started the smolder and put mesquite wood chips on the charcoal creating this smoke that smelled amazing. Then the best
part he laid a full rack of season ribs, as he laid it on the grill you could hear the meat simmer and start to smell the meat cooking. After waiting for
seems like an eternity I finally got to partake of the ribs. This was the first time I ever ate ribs, it was something I never tasted before my life it was so
good. This is just one story out of hundreds of mine that involves food. Everyone has a story about food. Now sadly

Swot Analysis : Chipotle, Chipotle
Chipotle! Chipotle is one of most amazing companies I have come across in a long time. They have very unique methods that set them apart from
their competition. Which is a big reason I chose them to evaluate because they are very good company, but they are having some issues getting back
on track after they had a big e–coli outbreak in 2016. I will discuss the impact this is having on the economy and why chipotle needs to get back on
track. I also will discuss how they can go about this and make a big change for the better.
First, here is some history about the company. Chipotle was founded by Steve Ells in July 1993, Chipotle had 16 restaurants (all in Colorado) when
McDonald 's Corporation became a major investor in 1998. By the time McDonald 's fully divested itself from Chipotle in 2006, [15] the chain had
grown to over 500 locations. The model they have on their page about chipotle and how it started was stated; "When Chipotle opened its first
restaurant in 1993, the idea was simple: show that food served fast didn 't have to be a "fast–food" experience. "Using high–quality raw ingredients,
classic cooking techniques, and distinctive interior design, we brought features from the realm of fine dining to the world of quick–service
restaurants." (Chipotle, 2004). There motto from the beginning got them a lot of press, they were making a lot of money just selling burritos, salad,
and burrtitos bowls.
However, things did start to go bad and now they are facing this big

Taco Bell : A Hot Dog Stand Called Bell
Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell, who first opened a hot dog stand called Bell 's Drive–In in San Bernardino, California[3] in 1946 when he was 23
years old. In 1950, he opened Bell 's Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in San Bernardino 's West Side barrio. According to Gustavo Arellano, author of Taco
USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America, Bell watched long lines of customers at a Mexican restaurant called the Mitla Cafe, located across the
street, which attracted a dedicated customer base for its hard–shelled tacos.[4][5] Bell began eating there regularly, attempting to reverse–engineer the
recipe, and eventually won the confidence of the proprietors such that they allowed him to see how the tacos and other foods were prepared.[4][5] In late

In 1997, PepsiCo experimented with a new "fresh grill" concept, opening at least one Border Bell restaurant in Mountain View, California on El

Chevys Fresh Mex restaurants (then owned by PepsiCo), such as Chevys signature sweet corn tamalito pudding and a fresh salsa bar.[12] Close to the
time that PepsiCo spun off its restaurant business in 1997, the Border Bell in Mountain View was closed and converted to a Taco Bell restaurant,
which was still open in 2012.
Taco Bell created U.S. Taco Co. in 2014. The menu will consist of tacos with American fillings, and will not sell food sold in Taco Bell restaurants

Disadvantages Of Mcdonaldization
McDonaldization has traveled over various types of demographics, it has developed from not only a restaurant based business but now you see
McDonaldization in the workplace, dieting, education institutions, healthcare, politics; it is everywhere. The undeniable success of
McDonald's world renowned business (rationalization) example has thus been embraced by countless businesses and lives all over the world.
Taking elements of Max Weber's earlier works, George Ritzer takes it a bit further and coined the term McDonaldization, even though it goes back to
Henry Ford's era, and his use of an assembly line, it is still very useful in society today. McDonalds exudes the process of replacing logical formal

All of his concepts are beneficial to society to some extent, but with the good always comes the bad. There are a few disadvantages of
McDonaldization, such as the realization that you are doing all the work, not the "worker" but you. You will also spend more of your time doing
for yourself versus having the worker to actually do it; you waste your time in the end. Then the sense of actual personal interaction you would
normally experience with a worker is lost. Just because something comes fast and easy does not always mean it is good for you. For example, fast

As America charts its course into the twenty–first century, we as a people are faced with a new array of challenges unique to this great nation. Should
we put a man on Mars, or build colonies on the Moon? Should we attempt to solve world hunger, or instead focus our efforts on finding cures for
cancer, AIDS, and cerebral palsy? Should we preemptively murder the entire cast of Jersey Shore before their final season, or let our ordained
punishment for abusing the term "bro" run its natural course and pray for forgiveness? All pressing questions, to be sure, and all worthy of

I was correct; and don't call me Shirley. Operation 420, as I have taken to calling it, will consist of two phases: a launch phase, and a containment

The launch phase will begin with the acquisition and manufacturing of a plethora of specialized incendiary bombs. These bombs will consist of a
small explosive charge to break open the casing and ignite the contents: weed. Lots of weed. On a predetermined date, most likely during the month

2015, YUM opened 2,365 new restaurants around the world and this year they expect to better that number slightly. This equates to roughly 6 new

did John Martin use? What was the old (previous) leadership style and what was its limitation?
Taco Bell's success resulted from a top down approach to change. Along with the new organizational structure came the job position of Market Manager.
Management added this new position to send a strong signal that they wanted different behavior. They wanted people to be broader managers, good

Taco Bell changed the look of their facility. They gave the store a modernized look and added playgrounds and larger facilities. Expensive marketing
campaigns were also used to bring customers into the restaurants.
In order to make the food faster, they cut back on a lot of time by having ingredients ready when they were needed. This would make the customers
happier, and would bring in more sales.
To bring people into the restaurants, they added new items to the menu including Nachos, Nachos del Grande, Taco Salad, and Mexican Pizza, Double
Beef Burrito Supreme, Seafood Salad and Soft–Shell Tacos.

Mcdonald 's The Biggest Chain Of Fast Food Restaurants
McDonald's is the biggest chain of fast food restaurants in the world. In 2015, company has 36,525 outlets worldwide in 119 countries (MCD
Annual Report 2015, 2016, p. 13) serving more than 70 million customers on daily basis (Mackey, 2014). McDonald's is operating in Informal
Eating Out (IEO) segment (restaurant industry) and though it is the top brand in the world, year 2014 was difficult for the company. The global sales
of the company dropped by 1% and operating income decreased by 4% (MCD Annual Report 2014 , 2015). McDonald's brand image was negatively
reported for unhealthy food and obesity among its consumers. McDonald's is taking initiatives to improvise its menu, quality of food and the source of
it. In a way, the company is also targeting different market segments and consumer age groups by ads and promotions and creating an emotional
bonding with the brand (Blakely, 2012) (Dhaliwal, 2015).
McDonald's current market share is valued at $121.17 as of 06/02/16. Since the company is operating in the informal eating out (IEO) segment, it can
have short or long term impact of high emerging competition from new restaurants and from traditional and non–traditional markets such as coffee

Taco Bell Analysis
You know that moment someone says "Let's go get Burger King!"
Yeah, me neither. If you don't like Taco Bell, you're wrong. From Cinnabon delights to ooey
–gooey cheesy bites; Taco Bell has it all. (And I'm not
talking about just their food!) Here are four reasons why Taco Bell can replace your significant other.
#1: Free Tacos? I think yes.
According to spaceref article, "Free Tacos for U.S. If Mir Hits Floating Taco Bell Ocean Target" The author states, "Taco Bell is offering a free taco to
everyone in the United States if the core of the Mir space station hits a floating Taco Bell target placed in the South Pacific." In March 2001 Taco
Bell painted their logo in the middle of the 40x40 foot flotation device, surrounded by target rings and 'Free Taco Here' painted in big purple letters.
If the Mir would have hit the target, coupon distribution, redemption and offer details would have been made available to consumers on the Taco
Bell Web site. Taco Bell has purchased an insurance policy to cover the anticipated cost of the free taco redemption if the core of Mir would have hit
the target. Sadly the Mir landed off course near Chile and America was devastated.
If your significant other wouldn't offer everyone in America a free taco then who else will? (Totally not Taco Bell...)

Globalization Of Mcdonaldization
McDonalds is a fast food company that was founded in the 1940's. In McDonalds short existence it has revolutionized not only the fast food
industry, but the way in which business is conducted world wide. What the McDonald brothers and then Ray Kroc set out to accomplish was a
business model that standardized all aspects of operation, in order to make expansion effortless. So great their power of growth that McDonalds now
has over 31 thousand stores in over 118 countries. So iconic that the average US school child can recognize Ronald McDonald. Ritzer describes
McDonaldization as "...the process by which the principles of the fast–food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American
society as well as of the rest of the world" (Ritzer, 1993:1). This penetration by the ideal of "McDonaldization" can be seen in our school system.
School systems are moving towards producing graduates, as apposed to imparting knowledge. Currently in the US we have over 13,000 McDonalds,
and according to Ritzer the US only contains half of the worlds McDonalds (Ritzer, 2013:287). These figures show that globally we are moving
towards producing for consumers, standardized products. McDonald's has become a company that incorporated economics, psychology and sociology
in its business plan to dominate the world of fast food. One in which many other enterprises try to emulate. American culture has gained from the
advent of "McDonaldization". We have gained access to a larger supply of goods at competitive cost. We have gained safety from increased
standardization. However, the American culture has suffered negatives from "McDonaldization". The process of Mcdonaldization extracts all that is
unique about the different cultures of the world, and creates a homogenized world with the sole goal of creating a consumer society. In this paper what
the world has lost through Mcdonaldization in contrast to what it has gained will be discussed. Also the dangers of creating a consumer society.
Negatives to "McDonaldization" While eating at McDonalds it may feel as if we are surrounded with countless choices, but in fact through the
process of "McDonaldization" many of these choices are made for us. McDonalds in effort to

Taco Bell Literature Comparison Essay
Introduction
Taco Bell, a United States fast–food franchise, is expanding to other parts of the world. In 2011, Taco Bell introduced its Mexican–inspired cuisine to
India by opening its first restaurant in Bangalore. U.S. Taco Bell restaurants are known for their on–the–go, quick food experience. In contrast, Taco
Bell restaurants in India are a sit–down, dining experience (Tandon, 2016). As the franchise opened more locations in India, Taco Bell also created an
Indian version of the Taco Bell website. When comparing these two websites, there are apparent cultural differences between the sites' layout and
content. This report will explore these differences and compare the two Taco Bell websites based on three of Hofstede's cultural dimensions:
individualism, indulgence, and uncertainty avoidance. Examining Hofstede's current cultural comparisons of the U.S. and India (Shah, 2013), we
hypothesize that the U.S. Taco Bell website will rank higher than its Indian counterpart in individualism and indulgence. For uncertainty avoidance, we
believe that they will have similar results. This report will discuss the literature review of these cultural dimensions, the methods that are used to
evaluate these cultural dimensions, the results of applying these methods on these two Taco Bell websites, discussion of these result findings, a
conclusion, and recommendations for both the U.S. and Indian Taco Bell websites. Literature Review

Taco Bell had no obligation to their customers to disclose what was in their ground beef. The only people Taco Bell has to tell what ingredients are

The reputation of Taco Bell was threatened in 2011 when a lawsuit was filed against them based on the beef used in their food. A resident Amanda

(Caulfield, 2011). Amanda claims to have purchased food items from Taco Bell and as a result, suffered pain and injury due to the beef in their food.
There was then a consumer rights action suit filed that challenged the practice of representing consumer with a product that is unknown or

of the meat was against United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) standards. The purpose of the suit was for Taco Bell to identify the label of

  • 2. Marketing Taco Bell INTRODUCTION The company I have chosen to base my assignment on is Taco Bell. It is a leading Mexican style fast–food chain serving tacos, burritos, signature quesadillas, Border BowlsВ®, nachos and other specialty items. Currently, Taco Bell serves more than 35million consumers each week in approximately 5,600 restaurants in the United States of America. It is recognized as the best Mexican fast–food chains in the United States of America (Yum! Brands, 2010). This fast–food chain plans on introducing its products in Malaysia. MARKETING ANALYSIS (SWOT) Strengths. Strengths refer to core competencies and positive attributes that give Taco Bell an advantage in meeting the needs of its consumers. The strength of Taco Bell is when it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Threats. The threats include external factors that could put Taco Bell's business at risk. In Malaysia, the main threat rises from its competitor in the same market which is McDonalds. Taco Bell needs to be constantly revising their prices and menus in order to keep up with McDonald's offers (Fujinaka, 1996). Besides that, the new researches and the raised awareness among the publics about the harmful health impacts of fast food consumption is a threat to Taco Bell's fast food menus. The ingredients such as sugar, oil and salt which are in the fast foods being offered, are thus consumed in low proportions by the aware and educated consumers (Taco Bell,2010). MARKETING SEGMENTATION In Malaysia, Taco Bell should cater to a well defined target market in order to market their product successfully. The major bases for segmentation are geographic, demographic, psychographic and behavioral. The geographic positioning of any business is important in the success of a business. In Malaysia, Taco bell should be located in the heart of urban areas such at Kuala Lumpur or Georgetown where the population density is at its highest. Climate aspect of the location would not be an issue as the weather throughout Malaysia is considerably fine. In demographic segmentation, Taco Bell as a fast–food outlet should target mainly to teenagers and small kids as they are the ones who are either

  • 4. Analysis Of Don 't Blame The Eater Is Greed actually not of a financial use rather than a emotional use. If so would employees who work at fast–food establishments or even major corporate heads of these billion dollar fast–food chains allow their own children to indulge themselves in them, knowingly aware of the vast risks they could embark on later in life due to their unhealthy choices? David Zinczenko brings up valid points on how fast–food is harmful to one's body in "Don't Blame the Eater,". Zinczenko is able to effectively argue against the manipulation of the food industry by showing the reader that the consumer is the victim while the food industry is the one to blame. His use of questioning, personal appeals, imagery, direct tone and colorful diction results in a compelling case that supports his accusations of manipulation by the fast food industry. Zinczenko asks questions to support his arguments and guide the reader to what he believes to be actually true. He starts off the essay using an analogy: is the case of children who sued McDonald's for their obesity the same as the case of middle–aged men suing Porsche for their speeding tickets? (Paragraph 1). He points out the fallacy of the men suing someone else for something that was their own fault (such as receiving a speeding ticket), but brings attention to children who shouldn't be blamed for what society claims is their responsibility. The next question he asks relates to what fast–food restaurants would argue/rebuttal with; "shouldn't we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consider a base case where a customer arrives every 40 seconds and the Customer Service Champion can handle 120 customers per hour. There are two Food Champions, each capable of handling 100 orders per hour. How long should it take to be served by the restaurant (from the time a customer enters the kiosk queue until her food is delivered)? Use queuing models to estimate this. О»=Arrival Rate Ој=Service Rate Based on M/M/1 Model So, О»=360040=90 Customers per hour ОјS (Service Champion)= 120 Customers per hourОјF (Food Champion)= 200 Customers per hour Now, we need to calculate Average Total Time... Assumption| Impact if it was not true| Customer arrival pattern is Poisson| If the customers arriving at Taco Bell Did not fulfill the assumption to be characterized as Poisson arrival pattern the above calculation would have been wrong and other more complex model would need to be used in order to determine correct values.| There is unlimited space for the cars waiting in line| The number of cars waiting in line would have to be no larger than the number of space available, so calculations carried out basing on M/M/1 Model would be unrealistic.| The two services are independent| If this assumption is not met we would meet to use more sophisticated models to provide this analysis.| Service Champion is never helping the Food Champions, even if a complicated order is placed.| As per case in reality Service Champion sometimes need to help Food Champions so the time it takes to serve customers would increase.| Service pattern is exponential| If the service pattern were not exponential (i.e. it was constant) we would need to use different Model to carry out the analysis. | 8. Could this type of analysis be used by other service type businesses?

What situations drove this change, and what leadership approach did John Martin use? What was the old (previous) leadership style and what was its limitation? Taco Bell's success resulted from a top down approach to change. Along with the new organizational structure came the job position of Market Manager. Management added this new position to send a strong signal that they wanted different behavior. They wanted people to be broader managers, good at managing P & L, to be decisive and to take ownership. • 12. Taco Bell Company Essay Taco Bell Company– Strategic Plan Corporate Mission and Goals Taco Bell was founded in 1951 by American Entrepreneur Glen Bell. Bell was the very first person to introduce Mexican food to the fast food industry (1). He was born on September 3, 1923, in Lynwood, California and served in the Marine Corps during World War II and returned back to California after his service (2). He then opened and sold his first take–out hot dog stand called Bell's Drive–In, by 1952 (2). During his travel Bell grew a love for Mexican food and he began selling tacos from a side window starting at 19 cents (2). Mexican tacos usually were soft and Bell came up with the crisp taco for fast food ease and proved to be successful. Bell partnered a restaurant and opened three "Taco Tias" in the San Bernardino area (2). "Wanting to grow, Bell sold the restaurants, forming a new partnership that opened four El Tacos (2)." Bell wanted to do business solo, so he sold the El Tacos to his partners and opened the firstTaco Bell in 1962 and franchised his business starting in 1964 (2). Taco Bell has grown to become the nation's leading Mexican–style fast food restaurant chain and Bell eventually resigned as Chairman of the Board in 1975 (2). In 178 Bell sold the food chain restaurant to PepsiCo, Inc (2). On January 17, 2010, in Rancho Santa Fe, California, Bell passed away (1). The restaurant industry has been slightly unstable as the economy climbs out of recession, and families' slowly gain income to allow for a night to dine out. As a whole, the restaurant industry – everything from full service to fast food – accounts for 47% of this year's food dollar share, while supermarkets claim the majority, accounting for 53%. Within the restaurant industry, fast food restaurants were the only sub industry to show positive guest traffic in the first quarter with a .8% increase, as compared to 2013. Of the companies that have experimented with this concept, they have found success in frequently changing the deals offered. Moreover, these deals offered by the restaurants encourage the consumer to purchase more while at the store; same–store sales in fast food restaurants increased 1.6% in January of 2014, and 3.2% by April. Still, the industry is experiencing pressure from lack of sales, and to counteract this, McDonalds' CEO, Donald Thompson, and CFO, Peter Bensen, announced in April 2014 that the company will be cutting costs in factors of production, but no specifics were released. Yum! Brand doesn't feel the heat with their worldwide sales growth of 4% in the 1st quarter of 2014; their brands include KFC,Taco Bell, and Pizzahut. Other chains are searching for alternatives to expand their companies and increase profit. Panera Bread and Chipotle have ventured into the catering industry, which at the fast food level has few competitors. They now offer their products in large quantities for events, and Chipotle even offers a customizable option – no salsa on your burrito, no problem. Chipotle implemented this idea in January of 2013; as of May 2014 they've seen comparable sales grow 13.4%. Some chains took an alternative approach to increase sales by selling branded goods; for example, Dunkin Donuts sells their brand of coffee, as does Starbucks. • 14. Taco Bell Research Paper The Beginning of Taco Bell In 1946, Taco Bell was founded by Glen Bell and he opened a hot dog stand in San Bernadino in California. He was 23 years old at this time. Just a few years later, he opened Bell's Hamburgers and Hot Dogs in San Bernardino. The sauce he used in the hot dogs is the same sauce used in the tacos he later created. While operating his new businesses, he noticed that a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Cafe was becoming famous for its hard–shelled tacos. For two years, he dined at the Mitla Cafe very frequently in order to reverse–engineer their taco recipe. Discussion When the Washington Post releases the finding from "Friends of the Earth" that Kraft Foods product labeled Taco Bell Originals taco shells contain "Cry9c" known as StarLink, Taco Bell Corporation will face a public perception that Taco Bell restaurants are serving or selling tintedfood products. Less than one year ago (November 1999) Taco Bell Corporation lost some public confidence due to the E–coli outbreak from tainted ground meat. Our response during the November 1999 outbreak should be duplicated to assist with the public perception related to tainted products. While the restaurant products are separate from the home products, they will be linked by our Taco Bell branding. Our use of media outlets, phone banks, and websites should be used. Our legal team will need to begin its preliminary research into the subject for reports and recommendations before the press release. Senior executives from Kraft Foods are being contacted to begin planning a united response to the upcoming press ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Taco Bell Analysis You know that moment someone says "Let's go get Burger King!" Yeah, me neither. If you don't like Taco Bell, you're wrong. From Cinnabon delights to ooey –gooey cheesy bites; Taco Bell has it all. (And I'm not talking about just their food!) Here are four reasons why Taco Bell can replace your significant other. #1: Free Tacos? I think yes. According to spaceref article, "Free Tacos for U.S. If Mir Hits Floating Taco Bell Ocean Target" The author states, "Taco Bell is offering a free taco to everyone in the United States if the core of the Mir space station hits a floating Taco Bell target placed in the South Pacific." In March 2001 Taco Bell painted their logo in the middle of the 40x40 foot flotation device, surrounded by target rings and 'Free Taco Here' painted in big purple letters. If the Mir would have hit the target, coupon distribution, redemption and offer details would have been made available to consumers on the Taco Bell Web site. Taco Bell has purchased an insurance policy to cover the anticipated cost of the free taco redemption if the core of Mir would have hit the target. Sadly the Mir landed off course near Chile and America was devastated. If your significant other wouldn't offer everyone in America a free taco then who else will? (Totally not Taco Bell...) #2: You can get married at the Las Vegas Taco Bell location! Yes, you read that right. Starting August 7th, 2017, The Taco Bell location in las vegas is saying 'I do' to any willing lovers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Globalization Of Mcdonaldization McDonalds is a fast food company that was founded in the 1940's. In McDonalds short existence it has revolutionized not only the fast food industry, but the way in which business is conducted world wide. What the McDonald brothers and then Ray Kroc set out to accomplish was a business model that standardized all aspects of operation, in order to make expansion effortless. So great their power of growth that McDonalds now has over 31 thousand stores in over 118 countries. So iconic that the average US school child can recognize Ronald McDonald. Ritzer describes McDonaldization as "...the process by which the principles of the fast–food restaurant are coming to dominate more and more sectors of American society as well as of the rest of the world" (Ritzer, 1993:1). This penetration by the ideal of "McDonaldization" can be seen in our school system. School systems are moving towards producing graduates, as apposed to imparting knowledge. Currently in the US we have over 13,000 McDonalds, and according to Ritzer the US only contains half of the worlds McDonalds (Ritzer, 2013:287). These figures show that globally we are moving towards producing for consumers, standardized products. McDonald's has become a company that incorporated economics, psychology and sociology in its business plan to dominate the world of fast food. One in which many other enterprises try to emulate. American culture has gained from the advent of "McDonaldization". We have gained access to a larger supply of goods at competitive cost. We have gained safety from increased standardization. However, the American culture has suffered negatives from "McDonaldization". The process of Mcdonaldization extracts all that is unique about the different cultures of the world, and creates a homogenized world with the sole goal of creating a consumer society. In this paper what the world has lost through Mcdonaldization in contrast to what it has gained will be discussed. Also the dangers of creating a consumer society. Negatives to "McDonaldization" While eating at McDonalds it may feel as if we are surrounded with countless choices, but in fact through the process of "McDonaldization" many of these choices are made for us. • 41. Taco Bell Literature Comparison Essay Introduction Taco Bell, a United States fast–food franchise, is expanding to other parts of the world. In 2011, Taco Bell introduced its Mexican–inspired cuisine to India by opening its first restaurant in Bangalore. U.S. Taco Bell restaurants are known for their on–the–go, quick food experience. In contrast, Taco Bell restaurants in India are a sit–down, dining experience (Tandon, 2016). As the franchise opened more locations in India, Taco Bell also created an Indian version of the Taco Bell website. When comparing these two websites, there are apparent cultural differences between the sites' layout and content. This report will explore these differences and compare the two Taco Bell websites based on three of Hofstede's cultural dimensions: individualism, indulgence, and uncertainty avoidance. Examining Hofstede's current cultural comparisons of the U.S. and India (Shah, 2013), we hypothesize that the U.S. Taco Bell website will rank higher than its Indian counterpart in individualism and indulgence. For uncertainty avoidance, we believe that they will have similar results. This report will discuss the literature review of these cultural dimensions, the methods that are used to evaluate these cultural dimensions, the results of applying these methods on these two Taco Bell websites, discussion of these result findings, a conclusion, and recommendations for both the U.S. and Indian Taco Bell websites. • 43. Taco Bell Case 1.There has always been a suspicion that Taco Bell and other fast food restaurant are using more fillers than actual meat in their products. Prior to the "Thank You for Suing Us" ad Taco Bell's responses to their criticism was minimal. Once Taco Bell got sued they had to step up their game because the media was making this a huge ordeal and Taco Bell was at risk of losing customers and their credibility. 2.Taco Bell Is hoping to prove to the public that they provide their customers with quality beef. Taco Bell wants to show that they stand behind their product and are willing to do whatever it takes to show that. I think they will reach their goal because they spent lots of money to provide people with the information they need to know about their ground beef. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By law, Taco Bell has to show the USDA that their ground beef has 70% beef 30% fat. Taco Bell is communicating to establish credibility with their customers. By showing their ground beef is above the requirements with 88% beef, 3% water, 4% spices and 5% ingredients that enhance the product, it makes people feel better about eating it and they will assume that their other products are held to high standards as well. 4.I don't think Taco Bell should of avoid the publicity since the publicity is what drew people to read about what was going on. Taco Bell would not have been able to make the impact that they did if they did not use publicity. The heading "Thank You for Suing Us" drew people into reading the ads. Without the heading people, probably would have kept o flipping through the newspaper. If people did not read the ad then Taco Bell would have wasted their time and money because people would not be informed about their products which is what Taco Bell wanted to ... • 44. Taco Bell Advertising Michael Memis October 23, 2016 English P8 Recently, Taco Bell had a commercial on the VR (Virtual Reality) headsets which people could win if they bought a $5 Big Buck Box. A person from the future warns the teenager buying that box that he will be the first person to get a Play Station VR. Then everyone will have it and they become so plugged in that they won't notice an alien invasion. The kid then ignores the warning and sees that his phone says he won the Play station VR headset and the man from the future leaves.
