White people historically portrayed black people as evil, dark, and dirty due to a superiority complex. They also felt inferior to black people's perceived physical strength and sexual prowess. Black people consequently developed an inferiority complex because their skin color was associated with these negative attributes, while white skin was seen as pure and innocent. Even in predominantly black societies, black children were told to stop "acting like niggers" for misbehaving and associate themselves with being "white as snow" when behaving well. The desire to be white was so internalized that black characters like Pecola in Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye wished for blue eyes, thinking it would make her more accepted in a white world. people and white men fear that they (black person) will take white women
from them.
