Essay On The Cost Of College Education
The cost of college tuition is often seen as the drawback that causes high–school graduates to choose not to enroll into higher education. This is highly
unfortunate because college education is worth the cost. The cost may be unappealing, but there is assistance for the tuition fees, for example, financial
aid and student loans. It is worth the cost for high–school graduates to go to college for the reasons that it will allow for these young adults to gain an
abiding profession that can support them for the rest of their working lives after college, it will also provide them with greater salaries than one would
have with just a high–school diploma, and ultimately it creates happy, knowledgeable, and healthy people. What people often do not ... Show more

Therefore, stopping at a high–school diploma is not beneficial to anyone under this age. There is on average seven years more of learning to do which
is why college is provided as a higher education to grow more knowledge. Ben Weider, wrote about how Peter Thiel, co–founder of Pay Pal, would pay
24 winners of his Thiel Fellowship $100,000 not to attend college for two years and to develop business ideas instead. However, the outcome was
that he realized that this route would only be beneficial to a small fraction of students, because their level of education was not as high as if they
were straight out of college (Source E). This entails that with a vaster education a person would be more knowledgeable for certain criteria. In
Source F, the survey shows that almost a half of the surveyers believe the main purpose of college education was to teach work related skills and
knowledge, and 39 percent said it was to help a student grow intellectually. Now 74 percent said their college education was very useful in helping
them grow intellectually, and 69 percent said it helped them grow and mature as a person. This goes to show that college can really help a person
grow more knowledge, so that by the time their frontal lobe is done growing they would have still been learning rather than lacking

Attrition From Higher Education Institution
1. INTRODUCTION
Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the increase (Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of
pre–registration nursing programmes are of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the Government and the NHS also due to the requirement to
meet the needs of the NHS recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing society that relies on qualified nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of
funding that student nurses receive and the amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and Government in them suggests
that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009).
It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition rate from pre–registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH
2010). This statistic differs greatly from the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures do
generally appear favourable however compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit office, 2007).
Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that the percentage drop out rate for students on all types of Degree
level programmes is relatively low at approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level programme the drop out rate increases to 17%.
Therefore the statistics identified for attrition from pre–registration nursing programmes are higher that the average attrition rate of all other Degree
and Diploma programmes.
A higher completion rate among pre–registration nurses will enhance the NHS workforce of qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of
Health Our Health, Our Care, Our Say (DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care for all. Higher retention of students would also aide
the HEIs involved in the education of pre–registration nursing as SHA and Government targets will be met and financial penalties

Dropout Age Should Be Abolished Essay
Many states throughout the country are raising the required dropout age of high school students to 18. Elevating the mandatory age of pre–graduates to
18 has been proven to encourage kids to stay in school and lead to an auspicious future.
To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a "moral imperative", as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of
Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on
to earn their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an article in National Education Weekly, by
Mia Lewis, "Raising the age for exiting pre–graduation may not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect." The requirement will often significantly
lower dropout rates. If this were paired with relevant schooling, as Kentucky uses, it could be even more effective in generating ... Show more content

The decision to give up on earning a high school diploma will often have a severe impact on a student's future. Educational advocate Missy Remiss
states, "Those without a highschool diploma are likely to have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction– they even have a higher
likelihood of ending up in jail or on public assistance." The effects of this decision will often cause problems for the rest of the students' lives. States
need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. Raising the dropout age of students would prevent more people from living below the poverty
line and cost less for states with fewer people on public assistance. According to a data analysis from 2009 by the U.S Department of Education, a
high school dropout earns about $7,840 less than they would with a diploma. Staying in school for just a little longer could majorly diminish this

Comparing Bachelor's Degrees
Several consistent messages emerge from looking at the wages of graduates across institutions. One is that graduates' first–year earnings range widely.
In all five states, at least $18,000 separates the schools where bachelor's graduates earn the most from schools where graduates earned the least during
their first year on the job. The difference between master's graduates from different institutions ranges from more than $10,000 in Arkansas to more
than $40,000 in Tennessee and Texas. At the master's level, across the states, graduates with degrees in mechanical engineering, computer/information
sciences, and mathematics are the highest paid, with chemistry graduates also earning more than graduates from the remaining fields. "In Texas, where

Essay On High School Dropouts
Every twenty–six seconds a student drops out of high school and every day 7,200 students drop out of high school in the United States. Which
unfortunately leads to 3,03,000 students dropping out of high school in the United States each year. Teenagers dropping out of high school has been a
widely discussed topic in America, with people debating whether high schoolers should be required to stay in school until they are eighteen. As
president, Barack Obama, made efforts to lower the number of dropouts, by creating new laws that encourage students to finish school and graduate,
earning their diploma. Earning your diploma will allow you to use prior knowledge to create educated decisions, fret from the number of risks that
dropping out may result in, and will open the doors to a world full of opportunity. At the end of 2015, the total dropout rate was 5.9%, which suggests
that our country should strive to lower the number of dropouts, by requiring students to receive their high school diplomas.
Requirements of a successful adulthood include the abilities: problem–solving, responsibility, and independence. Since the requirements are learned at
school, they are able to take the skills with them throughout the rest of their lives. School challenges students in classes, such as science, to form
hypotheses. When they make the hypotheses, high schoolers use their prior knowledge and research to assist them in creating the most educated
hypothesis. In result, students gain the

College May Cost More Than Just Tuition
Courtney Munna, a graduate of the prestigious New York University, has found herself $100,000 in debt at age twenty six. The photographer's assistant
has a degree in Religion and Women's Studies, a program in which the cost is high, yet the value is not. Virtually no career paths exist that would
compensate for Munna's major investment. Munna's education costs her $700 a month, and she states her regrets of the overpriced degree, "I don't want
to spend the rest of my life slaving away to pay for an education I got for four years and would happily give back." While Munna's sizeable loss can be
attributed to her poor choice in degree, the all–encompassing trouble lies in the increasing need for student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cofounder and executive chairman of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman calls for the broadened acceptance of alternative routes to higher education. He states,
"there are an expanding number of ways to acquire specific skills and knowledge faster and less expensively than one can manage through a traditional
four–year degree program" (Hoffman 1). Siemens and similar manufacturers have kickstarted programs that use real life experience in factories and
other entry level jobs to build advanced skills in recent high school graduates. The employees are given the opportunity to earn their way up within the
company, eliminating the need for a diploma. Although these programs exist, the underlying issue is most employers' outlook; to employers, a four
year bachelor's degree signals a multitude of positive attributes: commitment, proficiency in at least one subject area, and self–sufficiency. However, the
completion of a training program demonstrates these same qualities and is a more fiscally responsible route to preparedness for a job. Furthermore,
expendable courses taken to fulfill the mandatory amount of credit hours for graduation waste time and money. School administrations impose such
standards to ensure a sizeable profit, and students in turn are being forced to hand over the majority of their savings for knowledge not relevant to their

INTRODUCTION As we are aware, finance is the lifeblood of business or it can be said as the most important part of all the business enterprises.
To understand finance, you need to know the entire business indeed. Finance can be used for various reasons like expanding the business, investing
and purchasing fixed assets like land and building, machinery so on. In order to survive in this competitive world every organisation need to have a
good strength of finance available to their business or else they won't be able to survive in this world. Hence, it is very important to select the correct
sources of finance available to the company. Finance can be in two types' external sources or internal sources. TASK ONE 1. SOURCES OF FINANCE

This is a common method of financing a start–up. The founder provides all the share capital of the company, retaining 100% control over the business.
The advantages of investing in share capital are covered in the section on business structure. The key point to note here is that the entrepreneur may be
using a variety of personal sources to invest in the shares. Once the investment has been made, it is the company that owns the money provided. The
shareholder obtains a return on this investment through dividends (payments out of profits) and/or the value of the business when it is eventually sold.
A start–up company can also raise finance by selling shares to external investors – this is covered further below. 1.2 External sources * Loan capital
This can take several forms, but the most common are a bank loan or bank overdraft. A bank loan provides a longer–term kind of finance for a
start–up, with the bank stating the fixed period over which the loan is provided (e.g. 5 years), the rate of interest and the timing and amount of
repayments. The bank will usually require that the start–up provide some security for the loan, although this security normally comes in the form of
personal guarantees provided by the entrepreneur. Bank loans are good for financing investment in

The Pros And Cons Of Higher Education
Higher education is an optional terminal stage of formal learning, usually offered after completion of secondary education. Records show that there
has been an increase in college admission of up to 15 %, since the mid 90's (Brennan, 2004). Better jobs, huge salaries, excellent perspective, good
status and better lifestyle, are all promised to people considering to join colleges. However, there is a debate if they made the best decision to join
and graduating from the college. The life that you would lead after college is a matter based on the program of study and the occupation you choose
(Philip and Uros, 2013). The cost of pursuing higher education is also a matter of contention which limits the level of study one can reach with some
opting to drop out due to constraints in finances and others having to deal with loan debts of an average $33,000. The question everyone is asking
now "is college education worth it?"
Is it worth it? The demand for higher education is ever increasing as competition in the job market also increases. The rate of employment of
college–educated is twice that of the national average compared to high school graduates. Employee counterparts who have college degrees receive
better pays than their counterparts with no degree. They are also known to retain their works for longer and have a better perspective of the revolving
issues.
In the United States, 20.2 million students were enrolled in a college. A lot of pressure is put on secondary school

Earning A Postsecondary Degree Essay
Have you ever wondered if getting a postsecondary degree will help in your future? Well if you said yes then this essay will give you the
information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary degree can increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people
prefer not getting a postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it's too much work while others get it and have a higher income. Earning a

First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone's life because there will be more job opportunities available for
them. For example, according to (Does having a degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals.
Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were the only group that had a better job. For instance,

The Benefits Of College Education
At the present time, college education in our society is no longer an alternative or a privilege but a necessity. We have raised it in practice and are
convinced that we need higher education to succeed in life. There is a saying that says, "If you think education is precious, try to ignore it." But
since our times and career needs are in constant motion college is an absolute necessity. There are people who never walk in college and do better
than those who have a Master's degree. There are opinions from both sides that contain valid arguments. College is worth the price and duration
because it generates more financial opportunity which leads to a more stable and happy life.
A college degree can indeed translate to personal happiness, "is it a coincidence?" Bryan Cohen, author of The Post–College Guide to Happiness,
thinks "there's a connection. Higher education gives people the opportunity to explore their passions, be they writing, engineering, or even magic,
Cohen explains. Graduates can use their educational experience to pursue what they love to do." That's why, Cohen says, "educational attainment can
lead to some serious happiness." This is true college grads will have a happier life due to better job conditions, as well as higher career fulfillment.
Leonhardt stated "only 27% of Americans can say they have a bachelor's degree or higher(41) This shows how rare a college degree really is. A recent
study by Nazareth College showed that happiness isn't just about money

The Value Of Education : The Benefits Of College Education
Why is college so important? People may hear it all the time, but it is never clearly explained why it is so beneficial to a student. As our society is
furthering itself into advanced technology and research, the need for college degrees is beginning to grow. Sadly, as the U.S is continuing to grow in
these areas, college tuition prices are also beginning to rise. Many students now are questioning whether college is really worth the cost it brings. With
that being said, graduating from college is important because it can increase the amount of money a person can make, provide better employment
benefits, and expose the person to a variety of cultures and experiences through campus life.
Over the past years, many people could get away with having a general equivalency degree (GED) or high school diploma; however, that is not
necessarily the case anymore for today's society. As stated by Stemwedel, the economy is constantly changing. What once use to work a few years
ago, may not work now. Which is why employers are stepping up their game and requiring higher levels of education and skills.
Not having a college degree does not mean that the individual will never find a job, but it is highly recommended to go to college and graduate with
some sort of degree. To this day, there are still many jobs that only require ahigh school diploma or equivalent. Some of these sorts of jobs include
being a small business owner, a commercial pilot, a transportation, storage, and

Civil Rights Act Of 1964 Research Paper

The word equality has many meanings and beliefs in it that makes the word complicated. Equality can be stated differently with each and every

That was what some of the beliefs in equality that was in the 1900's. Though it is common sense that this is wrong and that everyone is human and
no one should be treated differently based on their race or color. An example of equality with Civil Rights Act is that there was a group of college
students who were a mix color of black and white. The group of students went into a public restaurant for whites only, and they believed that the
black should be treated as equal as to the whites. In fact it showed that equality can be presented as fairness and respect in the Civil Rights. Many
people believed that equality is a big factor in opening doors to more opportunities in life. If there is fairness and respect at a job it can create
opportunities for others to be promoted. As jobs hired people they must treat all applicants as equals, and treat each and every individual with

Positive Stereotypes Of Child Education : Qualified Early...
5. Qualified Early Childhood Teachers.
Early childhood teachers have strong professional identities as educators, in so doing defy the social misconception that they are mere babysitters
(Shpancer, Dunlap, Melick, Coxe, Kuntzman, Sayre, Spivey, 2008).
Research has shown that teachers with higher educational backgrounds, demonstrate more positive attitudes and knowledge of appropriate early
childhood education practices (Albert–Shim, Lambers & McCarty, 2000). Early childhood educators who hold a higher degree, have a greater
knowledge of child development and age appropriate activities, and have a greater change of providing quality programmes and better outcomes for
children (Doherty, Friendly & Forer, 2002, Hill, Pocock & Elliot, 2007; Nyberg, 2007; Pugh & Duffy, 2009; Sylva, Melhuish, Sammons,
Siraj–Blatchford & Taggart, 2011) and are better equipped to respond to the educational and developmental needs of the children in their care
(Bowman, Donovan & Burns (Eds.), 2000).
Qualified staff demand higher wages, believing that the higher the education and training, the greater financial compensation they should receive
(Elliott, 2006).
Mandatory training and accreditation, brings increased costs to the employer, with increased wages and in–service training expenses. Teacher's who are
highly qualified, are more career–minded, expecting better pay and employment conditions (Elliott, 2006).Early childhood teachers need professional

National Vocational Education And Training Regulator Act 2011
VET is a term that first appeared in the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 and refers to a group of frameworks and
systems that define the operational set up of RTOs.
The three key features are:
(i) Industry led – this features learning outcomes that are defined by representatives from the industry and workplace. These outcomes address 'real life'
expectations.
In my field of design, this may be defined by developing assessment based on a mock studio set up where the teacher is a client and the students work
off a brief given by the client.
(ii) National – a jointly managed system run by the state, territory and Australian governments, so a candidate meets a set of national standards that are
acknowledged Australia wide.
This is demonstrated via the use of the training packages developed for a specific course. In my instance – CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training
Package and more specifically – CUA50715 Diploma of Graphic Design
(iii) Client–focused – the clients needs are met by the development of flexible, relevant and responsive learning.
Flexible pathways in to training can be determined via the demonstration of skills the candidate may have through prior training, job or personal
experience etc, and whether it is relevant to the unit/course.
VET reform is about improving the quality of training to improve job outcomes and adapt to future skill requirements. Two of these objectives are: (i)
to provide a system that clarifies the

Young Adults Should Be Required To Stay In High School
Kareem Abdul–Jabbar once stated, "high school dropouts are forfeiting their opportunity to pursue the American Dream." He states that by adolescents
not receiving a full high school education, it would ruin the chances of living the American Dream. Young adults should be required to stay in school
until they are eighteen. Staying in school until eighteen helps with financial benefits, having a higher chance at success, and refute the belief that
dropping out may help with struggling families or not putting faculty or other teens at risk. Specifically, staying in school benefits financial income.
Raising the dropout age encourages having a higher income. For example, according to the U.S. Department of Education, a high school graduation
diploma earns about $27,380 a year, whereas a high school drop out only earns about $19,000 a year (source 3). The data demonstrates that having a
full education allows students to have a better income ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The letter from Marissa to her grandmother, it states, "rather than spend the day getting to school and back and feeling helpless, I decided to step up
and look for a job to really help at home"(source 1). On the other hand, even if the teen decided to get a full–time job, the income would not be very
high. Also, some kids might not be interested in having a full education and may do more harm than good at the school. The talk show states, "...and
you know, forcing students to stay in school when they don't want to be there can cause problems for teachers and other adolescents as well"(source 4).
Although raising the age risks other faculty and young adults, others would suggest that not staying in school leads to a better chance of ending up in
prison. All in all, staying in school helps with higher income, better chance at success even though dropping out may have its

Bsn For A New York
BSN in ten has created much of a storm in the nursing industry as more and more employers are now requesting a BSN for a new RN position.
BSN in ten is a bill introduced in the New York legislature that will require registered nurses to earn a bachelor's degree within ten years of initial
licensure. This approach was first introduced by New York in the legislation in 2005.The bill in New York is called Advancing Nursing Education
in New York and the bill number is 01977B. In the New York state legislature this bill has been considered for the second time in 2013 as the bill
that was introduced before this, did not pass the committee before the end of the assembly session. State of New Jersey is pursuing a similar
legislation. In an event that this bill should pass in the state of New York, all the nurses currently licensed in New York State and the nursing students
would be grandfathered in. Also, in the year 2008, thirty years after their initial proposal, the American nurses association (ANA) has stepped into to
pass the a resolution to support the initiatives to require diploma and associate degree nurses to obtain their baccalaureate degree within ten years (Starr
& Edwards, 2010) National organization for associate degree nurses argues that Associate degree nurses are an essential part of healthcare team and are
trained to work in various healthcare settings. The organization also refuses to mandate further education and states that any education beyond the initial

Many Graduate with a Higher National Diploma
Presented some 45 years ago the higher national diploma course made minute influence to the education of professional engineers until the Second
World War; and it was about 10 years ago that the number of diplomas endowed approached the number sitting the Institution's own examinations. Since
then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those qualifying as mechanical engineers by full–time or sandwich
study do so through the Higher National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that of the
H.N.C.–though, of course, in more subjects– and it was not known for H.N.C. and H.N.D. students to share the same class. Today, however, the
standards are very much higher and method those of university degrees. It is often overlooked that the university year is shorter than college year, and
that classes tend to finish well before examination period; so that, the H.N.D. course duration of some 2000 hours or so is much the same as that in a
full–time university degree sequence. The increase in numbers in recent years is undoubtedly due to the recognition accorded by industry to the merits
of the course. Firms have been able to recruit students unacceptable to the university, and sponsor them on a course which not only leads to a
professional qualification, but which also has a smaller rate and an output capable of undertaking responsible work without reprocessing. Another
advantage is that the study

Graduation Speech : High School Students
High school students in China are faced with many challenges throughout their education. Some of these challenges include taking the Gaokao exam in
order to receive a diploma. The Gaokao exam, also known as the National Higher Education Entrance Examination, is an academic examination that
high schoolers need to take prior to entering any higher level education in the future. This test consist of mathematics, Chinese literature, English, and
the choice of humanities or natural sciences. Over a course of two days, Chinese students must test for nine hours. It is typical to say that the Gaokao

necessary preparation for this exam. When facing the Gaokao exam, students tend to not drop out of school early to avoid the test, they typically try
to accomplish the test again even though they are discouraged from narrowly failing, and the students that narrowly pass the exam and achieve their

With an ever–increasing body of knowledge in the field of nursing, more education is being required to enter the field of nursing. Many healthcare
institutions are raising the educational requirements in order to become employed or maintain employment in their facilities. Healthcare organizations
are transitioning to hiring registered nurses (RN) who have a higher level of education, such as, a graduate from a Baccalaureate Degree Nursing

High School Graduation Rates in California and the United...
Between 1990 and 2012, high school graduation rates in 25–29–year–olds have increased from 86 to 90 percent; this overall national rise is reflected in
each of the ethnicities, White, Hispanic, Black, and Asian/Pacific Islander (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2013a). Prior to 2012,
nationwide standardized objective measures did not exist for measuring four–year high school graduation rates; tracking educational progress varied
from state to state. Thus, state education data collected from 1990–2012 are inaccurate as effective comparative groups unless knowledge of the
state–specific previous methodologies is utilized (U.S. Department of Education, 2012a). Since 2012, the NCES, an entity within the Department of ...

Chen's state graduation rate data referenced the U.S. Department of Education to compare against her national percentages; this strengthened her
findings. According to Nhan (2012), the Department of Education did not release national averages for race/ethnicity groups because several states had
requested deadline extensions for these numbers, resulting in an incomplete data set. Thus, California's progress is difficult to measure against that of
the United States. Additionally, Chen's results did not provide the rates for sub–divided racial/ethnic groups like that of California. This difference in
how students are labeled and/or reported may skew the national population demographic for each of Chen's three reported minorities. In spite of this,
her data portrays that Asian and Latino students in the U.S. have significantly lower graduation rates than in California. Nationally, recent immigration
and non–high school attendance in the U.S. contributes to the low percent for Latino students (Child Trends, 2013). Adversely, graduation rates for
Black students in California reflect the national average. Overall, these statistics point out that educational resources need to be more effectively
allocated to focus on California's Black communities and to Asian and Latino communities nationwide.

Economic Analysis of Remedial Education and How it...
INTRODUCTION
Education is an important part of one's life. It can shape a student's identity, challenge his biases, and encourage him to be inquisitorial and
entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern
day high schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of remediation in higher education illustrates the
structural failure of American public schools to effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong
American Schools). As such, this issue requires serious public policy consideration.

The four–year colleges do not admit remedial students, whereas the community colleges are "required by charter to accept every New York Cityhigh
school graduate who applies." While the city lauds rising enrollment rates as "evidence of its improved performance" CUNY's community colleges
have had to "double their annual spending on remediation in just a decade, to $33 million." Kamenev touches on the role of teachers and how remedial
classes cheapen the role of college professors to "de facto high school teachers."
Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal–Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter college unprepared and have to take "learning
support" classes. Up to $22 million is spent in state annually on these remedial courses (Diamond 2010). Remedial course credit does not "count
toward diploma requirements" and only about 25% of remedial students in Georgia "earn a bachelor's degree within six years." Some, like
Representative Earl Erhart, head of the Georgia House committee that oversees college budgets, do not sugar coat the situation. Ehrhart said, "...college
has become a continuation of the K–12 education [these students] never received, and that is not what a college education is supposed to be."

Persuasive Essay On High School Dropout
High schools across the country are proud to say that in recent years, the national dropout rate has decreased to an all time low. Still, hundreds of
thousands of students are failing to receive a high school diploma; thus, altering their careers, income, families, and overall future. As a country, we
would like to see these rates deteriorate until every student in high school is graduating. Teenagers are leaving school because of situational
inconveniences that are made worse by not graduating. Students need to be made aware of the consequences they face when deciding to drop out
including increased chance of incarceration, lower paying jobs or unemployment, poverty, and a lower quality of life. By dropping out of high
school, teenagers are immediately susceptible to lower income or unemployment because the workforce of today requires higher education for an
adequate salary. Philip Oreopoulos, a professor at the University of Toronto says, "among recent dropouts, 16% are unemployed and 32% live
below the poverty line. Dropouts with jobs earn an average of only $12.75 per hour, with the most common jobs found in the construction, food
services, and landscaping industries" (Messacar and Oreopoulos). To put this into perspective, the average secondary school teacher gets paid
around $27 per hour. Lacking a high school diploma makes it very difficult to get high paying jobs, thus making it difficult to gain work
experience. Especially in this generation, favorable jobs require much higher education experience than they did before. Recent data shows that,
"median weekly earnings for workers with a high school diploma equal $678. That works out to $35,256 per year. Americans with a bachelor's
degree earn a weekly average of $1,137. That's higher than the median weekly earnings for workers at all education levels, $860. Average earnings
for workers with bachelor's degrees work out to $59,124 per year. Workers with a professional degree earn a median weekly salary of $1,730, the
highest weekly earnings of any of the educational categories. That works out to $89,960 per year" (Josephson). By lacking a high school diploma,
teenagers are automatically at a disadvantage when pursuing careers. As more people in the

The local community is experiencing hardships in both schools and businesses. The dropout rates are soaring each year. The local school districts are
suffering from worsening financial situations and losing teachers. Dropout rates have been examined from several perspectives. Event dropout rates
measure the amount of students who drop out of school in a year without completing a certain level of schooling.
Status dropout rates are reported by the NCES (The U.S. National Center for Education Statistics) as proportion of young adult's ages 16–24 not
currently enrolled in school who have not completed a high school diploma or equivalent. Dropout rates status differ by many demographic factors,
including gender, race, and ethnicity, immigration status, and geographic location. In the United States dropout rates are higher in males than females.
Hispanics have the higher rate, followed by African Americans, non–Hispanic, whites, and Asian Americans.
There are other factors associated with early school leaving. Researchers have focused on three different topics. First topic, student and family factors
identified as contributing to dropouts is gender, racial, and ethnic minority status, low socioeconomic status, poor school performance, low self–esteem,
delinquency, substance abuse, and pregnancy. In addition to this research has also gathered the impact of certain family characteristics, such as

Gd Vs High School Diploma Essay
High school diploma vs. G.E.D
The common educational path for an american student is to pass elementary school, jr. high, and high school. Putting the student around the age of
eighteen upon graduation and receiving their high school diploma. However, due to life challenges or family obligations not all students complete this
path. That student has the opportunity to take the G.E.D, also know as the general educational development, allowing them to receive a certificate
stating they are at a high school education level. The G.E.D and the high school diploma have similar worth and criteria, but their time required to
complete, age requirement to take the test, and the use after high school sets them distinctly apart.
The G.E.D was originally created to help veterans coming home from World War two, to return back to civilian life. The G.E.D is a test that
measures proficiency in the four main subjects: science, mathematics, social studies, reading and writing. A person is eligible to take the G.E.D test if
they meet three criteria. First, a person cannot have graduated from an accredited high school or received a high school equivalency certificate or

College Costs More Than Tuition

  • 1. Essay On The Cost Of College Education The cost of college tuition is often seen as the drawback that causes high–school graduates to choose not to enroll into higher education. This is highly unfortunate because college education is worth the cost. The cost may be unappealing, but there is assistance for the tuition fees, for example, financial aid and student loans. It is worth the cost for high–school graduates to go to college for the reasons that it will allow for these young adults to gain an abiding profession that can support them for the rest of their working lives after college, it will also provide them with greater salaries than one would have with just a high–school diploma, and ultimately it creates happy, knowledgeable, and healthy people. What people often do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, stopping at a high–school diploma is not beneficial to anyone under this age. There is on average seven years more of learning to do which is why college is provided as a higher education to grow more knowledge. Ben Weider, wrote about how Peter Thiel, co–founder of Pay Pal, would pay 24 winners of his Thiel Fellowship $100,000 not to attend college for two years and to develop business ideas instead. However, the outcome was that he realized that this route would only be beneficial to a small fraction of students, because their level of education was not as high as if they were straight out of college (Source E). This entails that with a vaster education a person would be more knowledgeable for certain criteria. In Source F, the survey shows that almost a half of the surveyers believe the main purpose of college education was to teach work related skills and knowledge, and 39 percent said it was to help a student grow intellectually. Now 74 percent said their college education was very useful in helping them grow intellectually, and 69 percent said it helped them grow and mature as a person. This goes to show that college can really help a person grow more knowledge, so that by the time their frontal lobe is done growing they would have still been learning rather than lacking ... • 2. Attrition From Higher Education Institution 1. INTRODUCTION Attrition from Higher Education Institution (HEI) programmes is worryingly on the increase (Russell Group 2010). However, students that drop out of pre–registration nursing programmes are of particular concern, not only to the HEI but the Government and the NHS also due to the requirement to meet the needs of the NHS recruitment and demands of an increasingly ageing society that relies on qualified nurses (DOH 2007). Indeed the type of funding that student nurses receive and the amount of money that is invested by Strategic Health Authorities (SHA) and Government in them suggests that attrition is a costly problem (DOH 2009). It is difficult to gather specific statistical data regarding attrition rates as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more recent report produced by the Department of Health states that the attrition rate from pre–registration nursing programmes stands at 16% (DOH 2010). This statistic differs greatly from the national average of 27% reported direct to the RCN by the HEIs. The United Kingdom figures do generally appear favourable however compared to countries such as Italy (65%) and the USA (37%) (International Audit office, 2007). Statistics produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (2011) highlight that the percentage drop out rate for students on all types of Degree level programmes is relatively low at approximately 10% whereas for those studying the Diploma level programme the drop out rate increases to 17%. Therefore the statistics identified for attrition from pre–registration nursing programmes are higher that the average attrition rate of all other Degree and Diploma programmes. A higher completion rate among pre–registration nurses will enhance the NHS workforce of qualified nurses and will help towards the Department of Health Our Health, Our Care, Our Say (DOH 2006a) goal to ensure individual excellence of care for all. Higher retention of students would also aide the HEIs involved in the education of pre–registration nursing as SHA and Government targets will be met and financial penalties ... • 3. Dropout Age Should Be Abolished Essay Many states throughout the country are raising the required dropout age of high school students to 18. Elevating the mandatory age of pre–graduates to 18 has been proven to encourage kids to stay in school and lead to an auspicious future. To lead off, students should be required to stay in school until they are 18 to set a "moral imperative", as New Hampshire Deputy Commissioner of Education, Paul Leather states. The standard will create a moral obligation that will boost the chance of many kids sticking through high school to go on to earn their diploma. Some people claim that raising the minimum age is not a solution, but according to an article in National Education Weekly, by Mia Lewis, "Raising the age for exiting pre–graduation may not stop all dropouts, but it has a positive effect." The requirement will often significantly lower dropout rates. If this were paired with relevant schooling, as Kentucky uses, it could be even more effective in generating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The decision to give up on earning a high school diploma will often have a severe impact on a student's future. Educational advocate Missy Remiss states, "Those without a highschool diploma are likely to have lower earnings, higher unemployment, lower job satisfaction– they even have a higher likelihood of ending up in jail or on public assistance." The effects of this decision will often cause problems for the rest of the students' lives. States need to do all they can to prevent this from occurring. Raising the dropout age of students would prevent more people from living below the poverty line and cost less for states with fewer people on public assistance. According to a data analysis from 2009 by the U.S Department of Education, a high school dropout earns about $7,840 less than they would with a diploma. • 4. Comparing Bachelor's Degrees Several consistent messages emerge from looking at the wages of graduates across institutions. One is that graduates' first–year earnings range widely. In all five states, at least $18,000 separates the schools where bachelor's graduates earn the most from schools where graduates earned the least during their first year on the job. The difference between master's graduates from different institutions ranges from more than $10,000 in Arkansas to more than $40,000 in Tennessee and Texas. At the master's level, across the states, graduates with degrees in mechanical engineering, computer/information sciences, and mathematics are the highest paid, with chemistry graduates also earning more than graduates from the remaining fields. • 5. Essay On High School Dropouts Every twenty–six seconds a student drops out of high school and every day 7,200 students drop out of high school in the United States. Which unfortunately leads to 3,03,000 students dropping out of high school in the United States each year. Teenagers dropping out of high school has been a widely discussed topic in America, with people debating whether high schoolers should be required to stay in school until they are eighteen. As president, Barack Obama, made efforts to lower the number of dropouts, by creating new laws that encourage students to finish school and graduate, earning their diploma. Earning your diploma will allow you to use prior knowledge to create educated decisions, fret from the number of risks that dropping out may result in, and will open the doors to a world full of opportunity. At the end of 2015, the total dropout rate was 5.9%, which suggests that our country should strive to lower the number of dropouts, by requiring students to receive their high school diplomas. Requirements of a successful adulthood include the abilities: problem–solving, responsibility, and independence. Since the requirements are learned at school, they are able to take the skills with them throughout the rest of their lives. School challenges students in classes, such as science, to form hypotheses. When they make the hypotheses, high schoolers use their prior knowledge and research to assist them in creating the most educated hypothesis. In result, students gain the ... • 6. Analysis: College May Cost More Than Just Tuition College May Cost More Than Just Tuition Courtney Munna, a graduate of the prestigious New York University, has found herself $100,000 in debt at age twenty six. The photographer's assistant has a degree in Religion and Women's Studies, a program in which the cost is high, yet the value is not. Virtually no career paths exist that would compensate for Munna's major investment. Munna's education costs her $700 a month, and she states her regrets of the overpriced degree, "I don't want to spend the rest of my life slaving away to pay for an education I got for four years and would happily give back." While Munna's sizeable loss can be attributed to her poor choice in degree, the all–encompassing trouble lies in the increasing need for student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cofounder and executive chairman of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman calls for the broadened acceptance of alternative routes to higher education. He states, "there are an expanding number of ways to acquire specific skills and knowledge faster and less expensively than one can manage through a traditional four–year degree program" (Hoffman 1). Siemens and similar manufacturers have kickstarted programs that use real life experience in factories and other entry level jobs to build advanced skills in recent high school graduates. The employees are given the opportunity to earn their way up within the company, eliminating the need for a diploma. Although these programs exist, the underlying issue is most employers' outlook; to employers, a four year bachelor's degree signals a multitude of positive attributes: commitment, proficiency in at least one subject area, and self–sufficiency. However, the completion of a training program demonstrates these same qualities and is a more fiscally responsible route to preparedness for a job. Furthermore, expendable courses taken to fulfill the mandatory amount of credit hours for graduation waste time and money. School administrations impose such standards to ensure a sizeable profit, and students in turn are being forced to hand over the majority of their savings for knowledge not relevant to their ... The advantages of investing in share capital are covered in the section on business structure. The key point to note here is that the entrepreneur may be using a variety of personal sources to invest in the shares. Once the investment has been made, it is the company that owns the money provided. The shareholder obtains a return on this investment through dividends (payments out of profits) and/or the value of the business when it is eventually sold. A start–up company can also raise finance by selling shares to external investors – this is covered further below. 1.2 External sources * Loan capital This can take several forms, but the most common are a bank loan or bank overdraft. A bank loan provides a longer–term kind of finance for a start–up, with the bank stating the fixed period over which the loan is provided (e.g. 5 years), the rate of interest and the timing and amount of repayments. The bank will usually require that the start–up provide some security for the loan, although this security normally comes in the form of personal guarantees provided by the entrepreneur. • 8. The Pros And Cons Of Higher Education Higher education is an optional terminal stage of formal learning, usually offered after completion of secondary education. Records show that there has been an increase in college admission of up to 15 %, since the mid 90's (Brennan, 2004). Better jobs, huge salaries, excellent perspective, good status and better lifestyle, are all promised to people considering to join colleges. However, there is a debate if they made the best decision to join and graduating from the college. The life that you would lead after college is a matter based on the program of study and the occupation you choose (Philip and Uros, 2013). The cost of pursuing higher education is also a matter of contention which limits the level of study one can reach with some opting to drop out due to constraints in finances and others having to deal with loan debts of an average $33,000. The question everyone is asking now "is college education worth it?" Is it worth it? The demand for higher education is ever increasing as competition in the job market also increases. The rate of employment of college–educated is twice that of the national average compared to high school graduates. Employee counterparts who have college degrees receive better pays than their counterparts with no degree. They are also known to retain their works for longer and have a better perspective of the revolving issues. In the United States, 20.2 million students were enrolled in a college. • 10. The Benefits Of College Education At the present time, college education in our society is no longer an alternative or a privilege but a necessity. We have raised it in practice and are convinced that we need higher education to succeed in life. There is a saying that says, "If you think education is precious, try to ignore it." But since our times and career needs are in constant motion college is an absolute necessity. There are people who never walk in college and do better than those who have a Master's degree. There are opinions from both sides that contain valid arguments. College is worth the price and duration because it generates more financial opportunity which leads to a more stable and happy life. A college degree can indeed translate to personal happiness, "is it a coincidence?" Bryan Cohen, author of The Post–College Guide to Happiness, thinks "there's a connection. Higher education gives people the opportunity to explore their passions, be they writing, engineering, or even magic, Cohen explains. Graduates can use their educational experience to pursue what they love to do." That's why, Cohen says, "educational attainment can lead to some serious happiness." This is true college grads will have a happier life due to better job conditions, as well as higher career fulfillment. Leonhardt stated "only 27% of Americans can say they have a bachelor's degree or higher(41) This shows how rare a college degree really is. • 11. The Value Of Education : The Benefits Of College Education Why is college so important? People may hear it all the time, but it is never clearly explained why it is so beneficial to a student. As our society is furthering itself into advanced technology and research, the need for college degrees is beginning to grow. Sadly, as the U.S is continuing to grow in these areas, college tuition prices are also beginning to rise. Many students now are questioning whether college is really worth the cost it brings. With that being said, graduating from college is important because it can increase the amount of money a person can make, provide better employment benefits, and expose the person to a variety of cultures and experiences through campus life. Over the past years, many people could get away with having a general equivalency degree (GED) or high school diploma; however, that is not necessarily the case anymore for today's society. As stated by Stemwedel, the economy is constantly changing. What once use to work a few years ago, may not work now. Which is why employers are stepping up their game and requiring higher levels of education and skills. Not having a college degree does not mean that the individual will never find a job, but it is highly recommended to go to college and graduate with some sort of degree. To this day, there are still many jobs that only require ahigh school diploma or equivalent. Early childhood teachers have strong professional identities as educators, in so doing defy the social misconception that they are mere babysitters (Shpancer, Dunlap, Melick, Coxe, Kuntzman, Sayre, Spivey, 2008). Research has shown that teachers with higher educational backgrounds, demonstrate more positive attitudes and knowledge of appropriate early childhood education practices (Albert–Shim, Lambers & McCarty, 2000). Early childhood educators who hold a higher degree, have a greater knowledge of child development and age appropriate activities, and have a greater change of providing quality programmes and better outcomes for children (Doherty, Friendly & Forer, 2002, Hill, Pocock & Elliot, 2007; Nyberg, 2007; Pugh & Duffy, 2009; Sylva, Melhuish, Sammons, Siraj–Blatchford & Taggart, 2011) and are better equipped to respond to the educational and developmental needs of the children in their care (Bowman, Donovan & Burns (Eds.), 2000). Qualified staff demand higher wages, believing that the higher the education and training, the greater financial compensation they should receive (Elliott, 2006). Mandatory training and accreditation, brings increased costs to the employer, with increased wages and in–service training expenses. Teacher's who are highly qualified, are more career–minded, expecting better pay and employment conditions (Elliott, 2006).Early childhood teachers need professional guidance and continuing development ... • 17. National Vocational Education And Training Regulator Act 2011 VET is a term that first appeared in the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 and refers to a group of frameworks and systems that define the operational set up of RTOs. The three key features are: (i) Industry led – this features learning outcomes that are defined by representatives from the industry and workplace. These outcomes address 'real life' expectations. In my field of design, this may be defined by developing assessment based on a mock studio set up where the teacher is a client and the students work off a brief given by the client. (ii) National – a jointly managed system run by the state, territory and Australian governments, so a candidate meets a set of national standards that are acknowledged Australia wide. This is demonstrated via the use of the training packages developed for a specific course. In my instance – CUA Creative Arts and Culture Training Package and more specifically – CUA50715 Diploma of Graphic Design (iii) Client–focused – the clients needs are met by the development of flexible, relevant and responsive learning. Flexible pathways in to training can be determined via the demonstration of skills the candidate may have through prior training, job or personal experience etc, and whether it is relevant to the unit/course. VET reform is about improving the quality of training to improve job outcomes and adapt to future skill requirements. Two of these objectives are: (i) to provide a system that clarifies the ... He states that by adolescents not receiving a full high school education, it would ruin the chances of living the American Dream. Young adults should be required to stay in school until they are eighteen. Staying in school until eighteen helps with financial benefits, having a higher chance at success, and refute the belief that dropping out may help with struggling families or not putting faculty or other teens at risk. Specifically, staying in school benefits financial income. Raising the dropout age encourages having a higher income. For example, according to the U.S. Department of Education, a high school graduation diploma earns about $27,380 a year, whereas a high school drop out only earns about $19,000 a year (source 3). Since then, nevertheless, the growth has been remarkable and today about 40 per cent of those qualifying as mechanical engineers by full–time or sandwich study do so through the Higher National Diploma. Originally, the standard of the final assessed examination was matching to that of the H.N.C.–though, of course, in more subjects– and it was not known for H.N.C. and H.N.D. students to share the same class. Prior to 2012, nationwide standardized objective measures did not exist for measuring four–year high school graduation rates; tracking educational progress varied from state to state. Thus, state education data collected from 1990–2012 are inaccurate as effective comparative groups unless knowledge of the state–specific previous methodologies is utilized (U.S. Department of Education, 2012a). Chen's state graduation rate data referenced the U.S. Department of Education to compare against her national percentages; this strengthened her findings. According to Nhan (2012), the Department of Education did not release national averages for race/ethnicity groups because several states had requested deadline extensions for these numbers, resulting in an incomplete data set. Thus, California's progress is difficult to measure against that of the United States. Additionally, Chen's results did not provide the rates for sub–divided racial/ethnic groups like that of California. This difference in how students are labeled and/or reported may skew the national population demographic for each of Chen's three reported minorities. In spite of this, her data portrays that Asian and Latino students in the U.S. have significantly lower graduation rates than in California. Nationally, recent immigration and non–high school attendance in the U.S. contributes to the low percent for Latino students (Child Trends, 2013). Adversely, graduation rates for Black students in California reflect the national average. Overall, these statistics point out that educational resources need to be more effectively allocated to focus on California's Black communities and to Asian and Latino communities nationwide. It can shape a student's identity, challenge his biases, and encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day high schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong American Schools). Kamenev touches on the role of teachers and how remedial classes cheapen the role of college professors to "de facto high school teachers." Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal–Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter college unprepared and have to take "learning support" classes. • 39. Persuasive Essay On High School Dropout High schools across the country are proud to say that in recent years, the national dropout rate has decreased to an all time low. Still, hundreds of thousands of students are failing to receive a high school diploma; thus, altering their careers, income, families, and overall future. As a country, we would like to see these rates deteriorate until every student in high school is graduating. Teenagers are leaving school because of situational inconveniences that are made worse by not graduating. Students need to be made aware of the consequences they face when deciding to drop out including increased chance of incarceration, lower paying jobs or unemployment, poverty, and a lower quality of life. By dropping out of high school, teenagers are immediately susceptible to lower income or unemployment because the workforce of today requires higher education for an adequate salary. Philip Oreopoulos, a professor at the University of Toronto says, "among recent dropouts, 16% are unemployed and 32% live below the poverty line. Dropouts with jobs earn an average of only $12.75 per hour, with the most common jobs found in the construction, food services, and landscaping industries" (Messacar and Oreopoulos). To put this into perspective, the average secondary school teacher gets paid around $27 per hour. Lacking a high school diploma makes it very difficult to get high paying jobs, thus making it difficult to gain work experience. Especially in this generation, favorable jobs require much higher education experience than they did before.
