I Love You Wade Analysis
"I love you, Wade, you big idiot," Peter spoke, his tone almost too quiet even to his own ears. The
only response he got in return was the light breeze blowing against his cheek and the gentle sway of
the bare trees surrounding him. Paired with his own soft sniffles.
Tears slid down his pink stained cheeks, he never thought he would have to be in this position. It
was always assumed that it'd be the other way around, not to say that would be any better.
A grave sat in front of him displaying his love's name in font almost too pretty to be appropriate.
Flowers decorated the edges of the plot along with a little Canadian flag (courtesy of Steve after
being told an American Flag would make no sense).
The funeral had been weeks ago, yet the second date engraved into the stone still haunted Peter's
thoughts. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He remembers The Green Goblin fighting him and he remembers Wade swooping in to help save the
day. He remembers Norman pinning him down long enough to pull out a syringe of a green liquid.
He remembers Wade getting in the way and wrestling around with the monster. He remembers Wade
getting injected with the serum and the pained screams that followed after.
He remembers getting Wade to Stark Tower and he remembers waiting for Wade to heal like he
always does. But this time, he remembers Wade getting worse instead of better. His cancer was as
bad as ever. His skin becoming almost too sensitive to touch. He remembers Wade telling him that
even moving his eyes hurt him.
Every detail of the last two months was etched into his memory, depriving him of sleep and making
his appetite less than normal. His voice was always hoarse after falling asleep, his screams from the
nightmares becoming too much for his throat to handle.
It become so bad that he had to sell his apartment and move into Stark Tower to be looked after. His
room had to be made sound proof so he didn't make anybody else up when the night terrors become

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Genre of The Amazing Spider–Man 2 is action, adventure, and fantasy. The film was set in New
York City during 2010s. A brief storyline of The Amazing Spider–Man 2 is that, the main
protagonist Peter Parker discovers that his most critical battle is ready to begin. It is wonderful to be
Spider–Man, but for Peter Parker especially, there is no feeling like swinging between towers,
embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen Stacey who is a girlfriend and a helper of
Peter. However, being Spider–Man has disadvantages: only Spider–Man could protect the New York
citizens from the terrible enemies that threaten the New York City. With the appearance of Electro
named Max Dillon, who is a main antagonist against Peter, Peter should ... Show more content on

The director maximized the audiences' feelings by using a slow motion skill while she was falling
down to the floor and looking up the Spider–man, with her miserable eyes. At a moment of his web
caught her body, her body dropped down on the ground and died. Finally, the Spider–man defeated
the enemies and then coming down to the ground to check whether she was alive or not. At this
moment, I thought that the director and editor intentionally deleted all background music to make
audiences only hear his narrative telling to her. I only could hear him sobbing loudly and he was
upset and expressing his deep grief due to the tragic circumstance. Personally, I did not cry with her
death, but I realized something about hero's tragedy that the hero could not keep his love forever.
Through her death, she might be a symbol to the Spider–man that just because he saved people, it
did not mean that he is a savior of all people, including Gwen. In that perspective, Peter Parker is the
protagonist and eventually Gwen's death was about how it affected our hero, but inside of that, they
were able to produce the characters with real activity. Peter returned to home depressed and empty.
He threw away his Spider–man uniform and mask for a long time. He talked with his aunt about
how to move on from death and he visited Gwen's grave almost obsessively when every season
passes. I found the part where she falls was countless and it had a higher quality than the rest of the
movie

Aristotle 's Poetics And The Order Of The Phoenix
Poetic Thinking
(An Essay Applying Aristotle's Poetics to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix)
Aristotle was a philosopher who revolutionized the world of theater with his essay entitled Poetics.
Poetics is focused on what Aristotle viewed to be the ultimate form of theater, Tragedy. Aristotle
thought that Theater should be a representation of real life. Shakespeare also followed this line of
thinking as described in As you Like it, "All the world 's a stage, And all the men and women merely
players; They have their exits and their entrances," In the essay, Poetics, the six basic elements of a
great tragedy are outlined; the most important parts being plot, character, and thought. Aristotle's
essay can be used to critique classical theater as well as more modern theater such as films. The film
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix can be classified as a great tragedy, according to Aristotle,
because it utilizes complex plot, invokes pity and fear on the main character's behalf, and is
connected by plot instead of by character. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix follows a
climactic plotline over the span of a year. As said by Aristotle, climactic plotlines are far superior to
episodic plots. Aristotle states, "Plots of this kind are constructed by bad poets...they stretch the plot
beyond what it can bear and are often compelled, therefore, to dislocate the natural order." Luckily,
the plot of Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix follows an upward

My Greatest Fear: Having the Same Relationship with My...
My greatest fear: Having the same relationship with my little brother as I do with my older sister.
My best childhood memory: Early in the morning fresh from returning from the greatest place on
earth Disney World, we would sneak into the kitchen by crawling on the floor like tiny ninjas. We
were not looking for cookies or pancakes. The mission was to find the Harry Potter jellybeans, a
straw bag full of a child's jellybean dreams and nightmares. We saw the target...we grabbed it and
went on our way. Mission complete. Our parents are deeply sleeping in their bed. Now, we could
play our favorite yet disgusting game. First, we would turn on the television to watch Spongebob

Vianca, a fourteen–year old girl (she was the youngest in her grade) was caught making out with
Christian, a nineteen–year old boy on the security camera. "I will be at the school in five minutes,"
said my mom. I was deeply focused on my classwork when my fourth–grade teacher pulled me
aside from the class and told me that I needed to go to the principal's office because my mom was
going to pick me. Naturally, I was filled with joy because I was going to leave school early, but a
question popped into mind. Why did I need to go to the principal's office? I disregarded the thought
and packed up my things. I slowly walked to principal's office with my head down and thoughts
rushing through my mind. What had happened? Is everything all right? Yet, the questions did not
help the situations, for none of my questions were going to get answered any time soon. Once I
finally put my head up, I had arrived. I gradually reached for the door in fear of what was to come. I
opened the door to find the exact picture I was hoping not to see. My sister was sobbing while my
mom was shouting in rapid Spanish. "What is wrong with you?" howled my mom.
"I was just kissing a boy! It is not like I am selling drugs or something!" replied my sister. "For all I
know you could be because it seems like I don't you anymore!" Confusion devoured me. I was
eagerly trying to figure everything, but I was too young to put this puzzle together.

Fate and Free Will in Harry Potter
One of the most pondered questions in human existence is whether our lives are determined by
forces which are beyond our control or by our own free will. It is widely believed that one's own
destiny is created by fate. However, some also consider the possibility that one's own choices can
determine the reality of one's existence. In Harry Potter, JK Rowling uses fate and choice as forces
which shape the events revolving around her protagonist, Harry Potter, as well as the other
characters in the story. Rowling does not side with one idea over the other, but instead, argues that
both fate and choice are significant factors that determine the events which happen during the course
of an individual's development. Although Rowling lays out ... Show more content on

They develop friendships with members of their own house and rivalries with members of opposing
houses. Upon being assigned to a house, each student strives to follow the standard and expectations
of their particular group, whether it is the "brave" Gryffindors, the "loyal" Hufflepuffs, the "wise"
Ravenclaws, or the "cunning" Slytherines. Their house becomes almost like a cult in which they live
by: "Your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the
rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common–room"
(85). Each of the students share the common goal of winning the House Cup for their house.
Individualism, therefore, is constrained and each student is forced to act in a particular way in which
they are expected to. Aside from the Sorting Hat, other forces of fate also take part in determining
the students' house associations. For example, Harry is sorted into Gryffindor, the same house his
parents belonged to. Similarly every member in the Weasley family had been a Gryffindor, while
every member in the Malfoy family had been a Slytherine. This reinforces the idea that the events in
each character's life are predestined. They did not have a choice over their placement in the houses,
but rather, they are assigned to a particular house based on forces beyond their control.
Harry's obtainment of his wand is another instance where fate intervenes and

The Odyssey By Homer Is Considered The First And Greatest...
One man said, "All men are created equal"; however, men treat women differently in today's culture.
Society categorizes them as less intelligent, not capable of working in job fields such as
construction, and generally less important than men. Because of these ideas, women do not have the
same advantages as men. The importance is the effect it has on the progression of the future. Today,
women have overcome most stereotypes, but there are still plenty remaining. Most stereotypes
originate from ancient times, for example this theme is seen in the Odyssey, written by Homer, who
is considered the first and greatest epic poet. Women face persecution daily through the media and
society, yet the way society thinks towards them is changing.
In the Odyssey, there is a demeaning description of women. The thought of how evil and useless
women are shows up in all female characters. The main theory is women are possessions or prizes to
be won. They are shown as malevolent, sinister beings with terrible intentions. Starting with
Calypso, Homer describes her as evil and unfair. Calypso takes Odysseus captive and makes him
become her boyfriend (Homer 485). There is no mention of Odysseus wanting to stay; therefore, it
makes Calypso sound worse than she probably is. The reader infers how mean Calypso is when she
says, "Oh you vile gods, in jealousy supernal!/ You hate it when we choose to lie with men–/
immortal flesh by some dear mortal side [...] Surely I cannot 'send' him,/ I have no

Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal Controversy
Bernard Madoff Financial Scandal
I would first like to begin this paper by saying why I decide to chose this topic out of the 3 choices. I
believe that all of the choices were credible and a viable topic in their own regards, but the reason
this one hit home for me was because of the simplicity of the scandal. It's hard to believe that
someone could have made off with the amount of money Bernard did when the idea of a Ponzi
scheme was notable as early as the 19th century, and was named after Charles Ponzi in 1920 after
his scandal created enough issues to make it more aware to the public of what was happening. The
fact that this happened almost 100 years later at the level that it did and where it happened made me
extremely concerned and interested in the topic. In this paper I will cover the details happening up to
the scandal, the scandal itself, the people involved in the scandal, the legislation and regulations
implemented after the scandal, and my views on the outcome of the scandal.
Bernard Madoff was born April 29th, 1928 in Queens, New York. He grew up as a son of two
Jewish parents, one of which was a stockbroker. He graduated from Hofstra University in 1960 with
a degree in Political Science and then moved on to attend Brooklyn Law School where he dropped
out to start and pursue his own company, Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.

Harry Potter 's The Casual Vacancy
After the success of her popular Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling has recently branched out from
writing children's literature. Her first adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, explores more mature topics
and is aimed at a new demographic than her previous works. She challenges social issues with her
dark themes and her impeccable writing style captures the wide range of problems at the heart of a
small town. It becomes more apparent throughout the novel that each character is connected in a
web of misfortunes. Each individual has their own flaws and it becomes more apparent that there are
additional underlying issues at the center of the "pretty little town" (Tait). J.K. Rowling's The Casual
Vacancy, Krystal Weedon is the troubled hero of the novel as she struggles to overcome difficulties
in her life after the death of her mentor, Barry Fairbrother. The author behind this controversial
narrative has become one of the world's most decorated authors due to the widespread success of her
novels. Although she is well–known today, Rowling had very humble beginnings. Born on July 31,
1965 to Peter and Anne Rowling, Joanne became the newest addition to her family beside her older
sister, Diana. During her childhood, Rowling lived in several different places throughout Great
Britain. Her family moved from Chipping Sodbury to Winterbourne, and then again to Tutshill
("J.K. Rowling"). Rowling took an interest to writing at a young age and began composing stories at

an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming
obstacles." In the epic, Odyssey, by Homer and the film, Spiderman, directed by Sam Raimi, the
crux of the storyline relates to a hero and the challenges they face along the way. In the Odyssey,
Odysseus is the main character. The epic tale outlines his travels as he attempts to travel back to his
home against the will of some gods. In Spiderman, Peter Parker is the main character. He undergoes

Peter Parker's mentor is his Uncle Ben. Peter is always remembering little things that his uncle has
told him in the past years when he was alive, such as "with great power comes great responsibility."
The difference in the two characters' mentors is that Odysseus has an actual mentor that he can see
and listen to in person and Peter's mentor is someone that he can only faintly remember and recall
the things he said in the past. Along with Odysseus's and Spiderman's mentors, they also have allies.
Odysseus's allies are the Phaecians. After Odysseus's ship is destroyed, he swims to the island
Scheria, home of the Phaecians, and is warmly welcomed, fed, given gifts, and set off in a great ship
to his home, Ithaca. Spiderman's allies are the citizens of Queens, New York who believe in him as
being a hero and not a villain. The resemblance in the two characters is that their allies are not just
one person in particular but a group of people. By the end of the heroes' journey, Odysseus and Peter
go through tests, temptations, and the development of enemies. Odysseus is tested in controlling his
men and getting them to do the right thing as well as of himself and his boastfulness. He is also
tested on overcoming his fears when needing to enter the underworld. Additionally, Spiderman is
scrutinized on saving people and building his name as the city's hero. These two characters are

It is difficult to determine who is responsible for the perpetuation of stereotypes because most

Amusing Ourselves to Death: It's Time to Stop Laughing
The form of communication created by the television is not only a part of how our modern society
communicates, but is has changed public discourse to the point that it has completely redefined it,
argued Neil Postman in his convincing book Amusing Ourselves to Death. He viewed this as very
harmful, and additionally so because our society is ignorant of it as they quickly becomes engulfed
in its epistemology. When faced with the question about whether the television shapes or reflects
culture, Postman pointed out that it is no longer applicable because "television has gradually become
our culture" (79). What kind of culture is this? Postman warned that it is one in which we ... Show

We are now in the "information age" where we demand to be informed, yet are told in such a way
that we think we know so much, but in fact we are becoming increasingly ignorant.
Postman made it clear that his book is not an attack on the television itself. Instead he asserted that,
supplied by the television's form, it is the change in the definition of how we learn, and thus
perceive, the world around us that is under his criticism. When it comes to entertainment, Postman
admitted that the television does an excellent job. "Television [...] serves us most usefully when
presenting junk–entertainment; it serves us most ill when it co–opts serious modes of discourse–
news, politics, science, education, commerce, religion–and turns them into entertainment packages"
(159). The television does not require viewers to carry thoughts from minute to minute, and their
eyes are never unstimulated, as the average duration of a camera view is a mere 3.5 seconds (86).
Such brevity of thought and picture are a drastic difference from the way we used to get our
information. That is, through the monopoly of the print media. Then contiguous information,
uninterrupted by advertisements and thoughts not spliced into sentence–long segments, was
expressed from cover to cover. Now, the kind of information (or misinformation) we are accustomed
to receiving via the television set is redefining the way we receive and perceive information. It is not

Who has never dreamed of witches, broomsticks and full moon light? I always wished, when I was

The Harry Potter books make witchcraft and the practice of magic seem appealing and fun;
therefore, parents shouldn't allow their children to read them.
This particular issue is the source of most Christianity complaints and protests against the Harry
Potter books. Christians who express nothing but disdain for the separation of church and state when
it comes to the government promoting Christianity, suddenly become defenders of the principle.
They are arguing that schools are inappropriately promoting religion when students are encouraged
to read Harry Potter.
Even if they are hypocritical, it would matter if they are right because schools shouldn't encourage
students to read books that promote a particular religion. Most people tend to regard censorship as a
bad thing, but if the Harry Potter books really do promote witchcraft then perhaps there haven't been
enough challenges. If the Harry Potter books don't promote witchcraft, but merely include witchcraft
as part of the fabric of a fantasy world, then complaints are less about the books themselves. Then
the problem must be something else, possibly the

An Analysis Of David Heyman And The Harry Potter Film...
David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise
FTV 434
Taylor Grewe
December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and
technical responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers
were typically associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the
creative side. However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for
their creative involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered
the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately,
Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project
that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His
creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the
Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to
as the "Potter formula": Heyman's direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his
decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments,
and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision. This "Potter Unit" of returning cast and
crew members included writer Steve Kloves, production designer Stuart Craig, the majority of cast
members, as well as many more. Having produced all

Different Paths a Person Can Take in Harry Potter by J.K....
There are always different paths that a person can take, some too many to count and other just two

is used in many works of art to express a meaning or a point. One of the best examples would the
the Harry Potter novel series by J. K. Rowling. The Hero, Harry potter himself, and the Shadow or
villain, Voldemort or Tom Riddle. They are similar by their blood statue, and treatment at the hands

have left them to die. The orphanage of Tom's was much alike to the house of the Dursleys. Children
hated and bullied them, the adults neglected and took away natural rights, the living conditions were

Symbolism and the Concious and Uncounsius Mind in The...
Symbolism has a powerful effect on both the conscious and unconscious mind. Conspicuous
symbolism engages the conscious mind making one think about the many clever connections the
author has made. Symbolism of the more subtle variety can have just as much of an effect on the
reader; even though the reader may miss an intentional connection made by the author, they are
likely to detect it subliminally. This can have a profound impact on the readers understanding and

Because of the emphasis placed on his youth and naiveté, Anton contrasts strongly with the
motherly wisdom of Truus. Anton strengthens Truus's assertion by commenting on the antithesis,
"But if that's the case, then ... then no one's ever at fault. Then everyone can just do as they please.(p
33)" Similarly at the end of episode 2 when Anton entertains Fake Ploeg, Ploeg is introduced as
having come in from the night from the chaos of a riot. This emphasizes his disorganized mind as he
tries to explain to Anton the innocence of his father. However, he is unable to convince Anton
because his origins seem to come from the darkness of the past, and because what he says is directly
contrary to what Truus states earlier in the novel it is impossible for Fake's argument to be
convincing to the reader. This an example of how Mulisch is able to either support or discount an
argument he presents by the symbolism associated with the character making it.
Mulisch uses references to darkness as well as small seemingly unimportant details that reach in a
conspicuous manner to impact the reader. The most important instance of this is the referenceto the
darkness within the neighboring houses, as the windows are closed in covered to avoid any
confrontation with the Krauts. During the original description of the assault nothing is revealed
about what is happening within the neighboring houses the only description of the actual houses was

Not Just a Pretty Face
METHOD
Despite how the word may sound, deconstruction means to deconstruct, not to destroy.
Deconstruction is always simultaneously affirming and undoing. Deconstruction refers to a
technique for reading and analyzing texts developed by Jacques Derrida, Paul de Man, and others;
this, in turn, is connected to a set of philosophical theories about language and meaning. As a result
of the popularity of this technique and theory, the word "deconstruct" is often used as a synonym for
criticizing or demonstrating the incongruity of a position. It is a way to interpret literary, religious,
and legal texts as well as philosophical ones, and was adopted by French feminist theorists as a way
to make clearer the deep male bias that was embedded in European literature and traditions.
In order to deconstruct a text, one must take it apart along the structural "fault lines" (IEP) created
by ambiguities that are fundamental in one or more of its key themes in order to reveal the
contradictions that make the text possible. For example, Derrida, in "Plato's Pharmacy," deconstructs
Socrates' criticism of written word. He contends that it suffers not only from inconsistencies
internally because of Socrates analogy between memory and writing, but also because his ideas
come to us only through his written word. Many deconstructive arguments center on the analysis of
its oppositions. The person

Wizards and Vampires: Exploring the Phenomenal Popularity...
"There was a time when no one had heard of Harry Potter," a title of an article published in the 2007
edition of the Chicago tribune. It attempted to describe the Harry Potter phenomenon. However, if
written now it would be "There was a time when no one had heard of Harry Potter and Edward
Cullen" the Twilight series has sparked a phenomenon equal to the Harry Potter series. To know
exactly why these fictional books have become a vast phenomenon is impossible but gaining
thoughts and slight understanding of why helps. And to understand this roaring debate between the
fan bases of each book.
In order to understand the phenomena of these books, a basic understanding of the plots is

Quidditch, the Tri–wizards cup.
With regard to Twilight, a relatively new series by Stephanie Myer, is a four book, vampire love
story. Bella Swan transfers schools to live with her dad in Forks, WA, a dreary, rainy place. This is
also, where the Cullen's live, a family of vampires, who only feed only on animals and are the
"good" vampires. When Bella meets Edward Cullen, in her biology class, there is deep tension
between the two of them and it doesn't seem to be in a good way, Edward seems utterly repulsed by
Bella. As the story continues, it's discovered that he only seemed repulsed when in reality he cannot
get enough of her. After Edward saves Bella's life, it is her goal to understand why and how.
Unknowingly the two fall madly in love with each other and will do anything to keep the other
"alive". The story of Bella and Edward is a modern day Romeo and Juliet story, except with the
vampire twist.
Both books have an underlying theme of love in them. In Twilight, it is obvious there is a romance
theme. A true love so deep the characters would die for each other. However, in Harry Potter, it's a
little deeper but the love theme is there. Love featured in the Harry Potter books are much more than
romance; it is a love for family, friends and everyone in the world. It is love that drives Harry's
mother to die for him, Snape to switch sides, and Harry to try to sacrifice himself in the hopes of
weakening Voldemort. The idea

Skinner 's Behavioral Approach On Analyzing Myself
For this paper I am going to focus on B. F. Skinner's Behavioral Approach on analyzing myself.
Behaviorism emerged in the early years of the twentieth century as a counterbalance to the
psychoanalytic approaches of therapy and psychology. Skinner was born in 1904, just nine years
after Freud published Studies on Hysteria. Both of these opposing theories, psychoanalysis and
behaviorism, have greatly influenced the way we think of the human mind. I lean more towards the
behaviorists approach because what I have read about Skinner has resonated with me. I will use
behaviorism to approach my own inner introspection and hopefully come away from this more
enlightened about myself. The classic nature verse nurture debate has been rocking the boat in
psychology since Socrates' time. Skinner and behaviorists tend to lean much more towards the
nurture side of this debate, believing that an individual's behavior is a direct consequence of what
that individual has experienced in the past, especially within the context of reinforcement and
punishment. Because of this emphasis on nurture, genes and genetics do not play as much of a role
as the experiences one receives after being born. The genes that one is born with gives the individual
the genetic constitution that is capable of responding to external stimuli. If one has inherited genes
that code for a more aggressive response to external stimuli, then that person may have a greater
ability to be aggressive than one that lacks those

Essay on The Harry Potter Controversy
The Harry Potter Controversy
The wildly popular Harry Potter book series by J. K. Rowling has caused controversy for many
families over the past five years. These novels according to some critics are harmless, adventurous,
children's tales. Others choose to portray them as stories that inspire children to become involved in
the occult and serious witchcraft. The Harry Potter novels chronicle the life of a young wizard
whose wizard parents were killed by the evil Lord Voldermort. On his eleventh birthday he receives
invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each of the five books represents
a year of his life there (Walker). This essay will discuss whether the Harry Potter novels are a

She said that children will come into her store between books and ask her "what can I read that's as
good as Harry Potter?" (Kennedy–Ross). Elementary school principal, Dennis Edge, spoke about
how the books have positively affected the reading as his school. He said that he would not suggest
Harry Potter is "single–handedly solving our reading problems" but he did note that "once students
become successful at reading that encourages them to read more" (Kennedy–Ross). Potter novels
draw in children and adults with interesting and humorous story lines.
Even children that are too young to read can benefit from having Harry Potter stories read to them.
Reading aloud humorous and exciting stories like Harry Potter allows for a "myriad of shared
emotions" (Giorgis 82). Interesting books read aloud leave kids wanting to hear another. Janet
Seden, professor of the School of Health and Social Welfare at Open University concluded that
enjoyable fictional experiences as a child "create empathy in the reader and enable us to confront the
need for imagination as parents and practitioners" (Seden 296). Some parents are pleased by the way
that Harry Potter has interested their children in reading, but others find the novels to promote good
morals.

Why I Didn 't Know It?
Before I knew it, it was already two days before we got to go to Hogwarts. I couldn't believe it. I
was two days away from going to a magical school that, up until about a week ago, didn't exist. I
wondered what house I was going to get sorted into. I wasn't brave enough for Gryffindor, too
pessimistic for Hufflepuff, too dumb for Ravenclaw, and not cunning enough for Slytherin. Maybe I
wouldn't get sorted into a house, and I would just have to sleep in Dumbledore's office. That would
be cool, maybe I would get to braid his beard.
"Whatcha thinking about?" George asked from beside me. We were on our way to the Leaky
Cauldron, where apparently Harry was staying after he blew up his aunt. We all had a good laugh
about that.
"Braiding Dumbledore's beard," I replied casually. He gave me a weirded out look, as did basically
everyone else in the car that heard me. I shrugged. They asked a question, and they got an answer.
"You excited for Hogwarts? Do you reckon it'll be different from your school back in America?"
Fred asked us.
"I'm so excited! I'll have to study really hard to keep up in my classes though. Of course it'll be
different. I heard that you all have houses or something, what's up with those?" Janelle rambled. We
had decided to say that our muggle school back in America was the wizarding school we went to.
We just had to change the subjects and it was the perfect lie. I had also educated them all about the
wizarding world as it would look a bit weird if

What Is The Theme Of The Green Goblin
In 2002, Sam Raimi directed the first Spider–Man movie of the three–part series. In this movie, the
famous Marvel comic book character, Peter Parker, adapts to his newfound super powers after being
bitten by a genetically–enhanced spider on a high school field trip to OSCORP. Throughout this
movie, he battles the infamous villain the Green Goblin, otherwise known as Norman Osborn, in
New York City. Peter Parker is an outsider at his high school and has a crush on the beautiful and
popular Mary Jane Watson, who is also Peter's next–door neighbor, and she dates the typical high
school jock. Peter's only true friend is Harry Osborn, the son of Norman Osborn. Peter was raised by

The color green has been associated with monsters such as Shrek, Frankenstein, The Wicked Witch
of the West, the Hulk, and the Green Goblin. Although this color is associated with life, renewal,
and nature, it has a double entendre and can be associated with greed, jealousy, and envy. For
example, the common phrase that corresponds to jealousy is the "green–eyed monster", which is the
term personified. These traits are exposed in Norman Osborn through his counterpart, the Green
Goblin. Before the chaos, Norman Osborn was just the average successful white businessman.
However, through the injection of the enhancing green serum, the immoral parts of himself emerged

Examples Of Tension In Spider Man
Term 1 drama There are many examples of relationship tension in the film spider man. I am going to
state some of these starting with the first example which is in the first couple of scenes when Peter
Parker is chasing the bus and everyone inside of it is laughing at him including the bus driver. This
scene shows task tension because it shows that peter is trying to catch the bus and if he doesn't make
it, the outcome will be that he will miss the excursion, this is relationship tension because Peter has
something to do, an amount of time to do it and if he doesn't complete the task there will be
consequences. This scene also shows relationship tension because everyone in the bus is laughing at
peter showing he is not liked by others and even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the first is when Peter is unknown of a spider coming down above him and he is enjoying his
time with Mary Jane. The spider comes down and peter still does not know this. This is mystery
tension and this changes into surprise tension because the spider snaps at Peter which was
unexpected to the viewers. It starts with mystery tension because threatening things are happening to
peter and he does not know and it is surprize tension because we did not expect the spider to lash out
at peter. In this scene the mystery and surprise is also emphasised through the music used. Another
example Of tension of mystery is when They are on the excursion looking at the spider, Mary Jane
says there is only fourteen spiders when the woman said that there should be fifteen. This is tension
of mystery because people are left wondering where this spider is, that it could be anywhere.
Another example of tension of mystery and surprise is when Dr Osborne is testing the formula and
nobody knows what the outcome is going to be and that is why it is tension of mystery. This
converts to tension of surprize because dr Osborne unexpectedly grabs Norman, throwing him and
killing him and this is tension of surprize because we didn't expect it to

Modern Society as a Reflection of the Picture of Dorian...
Traditional gothic fiction was at the height of its popularity during the Victorian era, it exploded in
the 1790's and continued its reign well into the 1800's. This confrontational style of fiction often
blurs the lines of realistic and artificial, forcing readers to challenge their beliefs and surpass the
norm. However, the aspect of gothic fiction that was most attractive to the Victorian audience was
the way human fears and societal tensions were reflected in the deliberately fictionalised literary
works. Themes such as the human greed for immortality and eternal beauty that underlie key gothic
texts such as Oscar Wilde's only novel The Picture of Dorian Gray have incited modern adaptations

Dorian's callous reaction to Sybil's (his lover) suicide is corresponding to Voldemort's detached
feelings for his Death Eaters. With power such the immortality these two characters experience
comes greed and self–glorification. Gray's statement that he has "seen too much in life to... shock
easily" is a demonstration of this narcissistic outlook. Rowling has further authenticated Wilde's
Victorian text in her modern one by methodically paralleling many of the facets of the original
character. The shared disfiguration of the characters physic because of their unnatural desire for
immortality links both the past a present desires. Whilst Gary was "loathsome of visage," Voldemort
was similarly "the most terrible face." Not only has Rowling used their physical devastation but she
has also linked them through their shared use of an alter–ego style name. Gray's influence over Sybil
lead to the guise of "Prince Charming" whilst to a more extreme (and modernised) complete change
of name is the persona of "Lord Voldemort", both 'immortals' gave themselves unprecedented royal
titles. Rowling's clever dramatisation of the original Dorian Gray character has allowed for
revolutionary use of "the land of fantasies"(5) in which Voldemort's lust for immortality and

automotive area is the one that sticks out to me. The two technician schools I have chosen are UTI,

UTI (Universal Technician Institute), and Wyotech University which are both great places to get
started. My plan so far is to take UTI's 51 week starting program in order to get me going. After that
I will be going to their main school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Once I'm there I will take a racing
technician class which is around 15 weeks long, and that puts me right into the seat of racing. After
researching some more I found out that if I am in the top 5 students of the racing program, I get the
opportunity to be picked up and hired by an actual racing company such as Porsche, Ford,
Mercedes, Chevrolet and maybe even McLaren, and get to work for them which would be an honor.
But even to get that opportunity I have to start somewhere, and I feel like UTI is a good place for me
to start. At UTI the learning environment looks like a collage campus from the outside, but on the
inside it is one big garage full of all types of cars. The teachers are all certified automotive
technicians and master mechanics; they will teach me everything I will need to know. Most of the
students are like I am; we all share a burning passion and love for cars, and we all strive to gain

Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
H.R. 3590 (111th): Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
When president Obama was a candidate in the 2008 election he promised wide scale health care
reform that would increase the availability and affordability of medical insurance for a large portion
of the American population. At the time of his campaign, millions of low–income Americans were
stuck in the Medicaid gap – where they could not afford health insurance, but also were not eligible
for the joint state and federal government Medicaid program. This promise eventually became the
bill later named the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was passed by the senate on

regulations these individuals or families did not qualify for insurance through Medicaid. As a result,
when these Americans needed to be seen by doctors, insured tax paying American's would be stuck
with their bills. In order to alleviate this problem, president Obama decided to lead a major
campaign to increase the affordability of health care. Through draft bills in the house and senate, the
Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obama Care, covers a large portion of Americans
who before it became a law would be left without insurance. The bill has two main parts – making
healthcare affordable to low income families and increasing the scope of Medicaid eligibility.
Before ObamaCare, families and individuals who were not covered by employers for healthcare had
to seek out insurance on their own. This task proved very difficult as insurance providers charged
steep prices for coverage. In short, health care coverage was not affordable to a large portion of the
population. The law seeks to cover Americans who are between 138% and 400% of the Federal

them to choose a plan that best suits their needs. A formula will then decide based on their state how

The Use of Vampire Characters in Novels
The Gothic novel is not just an ordinary story of vampirism, it is rather a story about a very
particular kind of myth that is very old, that goes back even before the ancient Greeks. In classical
mythology there have been always stories about exotic lands inhabited by exotic creatures, there
have been always a fascination with constructing images of monsters male and female. In classical
mythology there have been always stories about the encounter between the mortal and the immortal,
between the ordinary and the exotic. There have been always an attraction to images of monsters,
designed to shock and horrify. In short various images of monstrosity are found in classical
mythology. One of the most famous , the Sirens. Barbara Creed in her article "The Monstrous–
Feminine: Stereotyping against the the Grain" writes in describing female monstrosity: "The Sirens
were deadly to the male sex. Described as enormous birds with the heads of women, the sirens were
able to sing beautiful haunting songs which they used to lure unwary sailors to shore, where
submerged reefs tore apart their ships. These fatal creatures then devoured their prey...Like the
sirens, female vampires have often been represented as beautiful, alluring creatures that seduce their
victims before sucking their lifeblood from their veins"(Creed). This analogy Barbara Creed makes

Vocation
"People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because
they exel." Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many
options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make
are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being
unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is,
living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I
must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is
essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in "civic
responsibility") and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the
language "to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired." In
sum, McCarthy's discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction.
His approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God.
Spohn frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job
seeker who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to
have more meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in
determining a vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps
one seek the right vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one
understand personal desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for
seeking and choosing a path. "An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction
to a broader concern for justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they
are strangers."

The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been Successful in Explaining Attachments
There are various psychological theories to regard as which have been successful in explaining
attachments and I will be explaining the majority of them.
Sigmund Freud developed a theory of personality – an explanation of how each individual's
personality develops. This theory can be used to explain many aspects of behaviour, including
attachment.
Feud proposed that attachment grows out of the feeding relationship. In essence Freud claimed that
infants are born with an innate drive to seek pleasure. He called this the pleasure principle, and
suggested that one 'structure of the personality' (id) was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The relationship with the primary caregiver acts as a template for all later relationships
However, the classic experiments of Harry Harlow (1959) on rhesus monkeys demonstrated that this
theory was inadequate. This study concerned rhesus monkeys who were raised on their own by two
'wire mothers'. One wire mother had a feeding bottle attached and the other and the other was
wrapped in soft cloth but offered no cloth. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys
should have become attached to the 'mother' associated with food and offering drive reduction. In
fact, the monkeys spent most time with the cloth–covered mother and would cling to it especially
when they were frightened.
These studies suggest that 'cupboard love' is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though
we must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to
generalise the findings to human behaviour.
Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of
attachments in 60 infants who came largely from working–class homes in Glasgow. The infants
were observed over a period of a year in their homes.
The results of the study proved that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them, nor
to the person who spent most time with them. They were most attached to the person who was most
responsive and interacted

The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay
Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington,
but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There's something to be said when the
main characters of a novel don't even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who
were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and
Father weren't the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their
family, including Little Girl who would join Mother's family at the end of the tale, were the only
ones who were not named. That's because it's an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol
for the typical middle–class American family during the Progressive Era. However, this is not the
only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is
shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent
the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to
the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There's a reason Father and
Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because
an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriage
between the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father and Mother change
positions. While Father grows

Male Gaze In The Gaze
The gaze is an important part of any literary work in that it defines the viewpoint from which the
reader sees the rest of the story. The gaze, however, is also much more than a particular point of
view. It is a conveyance of power, and a way in which a narrator is able to completely shape the way
readers understand other characters in the story, imparting their own standards and beliefs onto an
often unrealizing audience. The gaze has a very clear relation to power in the sense that it is what
shapes how an audience sees certain things. An example of this is through the institution of white
supremacy in media via the gaze of the mass media in the mid–20th century. As Bell Hooks

important because Spiderman is primarily marketed towards a younger audience, thus imparting the
male gaze upon young people who may never realize that they are being influenced. Mary Jane is
the object of affection of not only Spiderman, but also of Harry Osborn, who becomes the villain

Here, we see Mary Jane as the object of desire for both hero and villain, and is subsequently
captured and used to lure the hero into battle, where Spiderman must come to her rescue and save

danger that his existence has placed her in throughout the course of the tale. But think, for a minute,
what things would be like if they were portrayed from the female gaze, by way of Mary Jane. The

sons together before they divorced in 1946. Soon after his divorce from Clara, he married a child
psychologist named Margaret. They also had two children together. Margaret, sadly died from
cancer in 1971, which led Harlow to become deeply depressed. He was treated with electro–
convulsive therapy. In 1972, he remarried Clara, and they remained a couple until his death in 1981

Brainstorming and the Advancemenst in Idea-Generation Methods
In his 1993 article, "In Search of...Good Ideas," Ron Zemke discusses the practice of brainstorming,
particularly among quality teams. The foundation of Zemke's article is Alex F. Osborn's work from
the 1930s which largely gave birth to the concept of brainstorming.
In Applied Imagination, Osborn's 1957 best–selling book, the notion of "classic" brainstorming is
explained with specific structure (Zemke, 1993). It includes five steps, four rules of conduct, and
two core principles (Zemke, 1993). To begin, Osborn indicated that the brainstorming session
should include five to twelve individuals, in addition to a trained facilitator (Zemke, 1993). The first
step of the brainstorm is for the facilitator to prepare for the session by ... Show more content on

However, the findings were unclear (Zemke, 1993). Arthur B. VanGundy
Cast doubt on many of Osborn's theories (Zemke, 1993). VanGundy noted that the personality of the
participants may be more important than the process they follow, and that asking those participants
to come up with "high–quality" ideas was just as effective as when judgment was deferred (Zemke,
1993, p.47). VanGundy also found that the maximum number of participants should be eight or nine,
rather than up to twelve as Osborn had proposed (Zemke, 1993). At the time of his article, Zemke
suggests that there are numerous alternative idea–generation tools and methods in addition to the
traditional brainstorm. Among the alternatives, two general categories emerge: interactive
techniques and parallel techniques (Zemke, 1993). The Trigger Method technique follows a process
which allows participants to evaluate each person's ideas individually, and then to evaluate and
create a recommendation (Zemke, 1993). The SIL Method works to integrate all participants' ideas
into one solution by adding ideas to the solution through a continual "add–an–idea" cycle (Zemke,
1993, p. 48). The process ends with one integrated idea (Zemke, 1993). The last of the interactive
methods discussed is the Wildest Idea. Similar to classic brainstorming, Wildest Idea allows the
facilitator to interrupt a group who may be in a rut, and suggest a crazy or impractical idea (Zemke,
1993). This allows

The Real Heroes in Literature
What images are associated with the words "hero"? A muscular Hercules saving the world from
Hades? A knight in shining armor bravely riding into combat? Words like bravery, strength, pride,
and self–sacrifice are commonly connected with a classic hero. But are those the only characteristics
that make someone heroic? A dictionary definition of a hero is "a man of distinguished courage or
ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities"; however, this is a very elastic definition
and there are many other types and definitions of heroes depending on circumstances. Is there one
that is correct? Do all heroes share any common characteristics? According to Orin E. Klapp, a hero
is "a person, real or imaginary, who evokes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the journey, Bilbo is able to defeat a few enemies, such as when he buys time during the
troll incident, and helps the dwarves escape from the spiders; however, Diogo Gonçalves, points out
that "even when he starts becoming useful for the group... he is humble; Bilbo doesn't mock on
those he defeats, as the classic hero tended to do" (44), rather the mockery is used to defeat the
enemies. A clear example is the incident with the spiders, where he angers them by calling them
offensive names in order to give the dwarves a chance to escape. Despite all these differences, Bilbo
is still accepted as a hero in today's society and does share some traits with the classic hero. One of
the reasons I believe he is accepted in today's society is because he is easy to relate to,
demonstrating pleasure in his domestic lifestyle, but at the same time, possessing a natural curiosity
and a desire to enjoy the occasional adventure outside his comfort zone. He also has the admirable
quality of loyalty and persistence. Even when "the dwarves wanted to know why he had ever been
brought at all, why he could not stick to his friends and come along with them, and why the wizard
had not chosen someone with more sense, and that 'He has been more trouble than use so far,' said
one" (Tolkien 44), Bilbo still stuck by their side and helped them to the best of his abilities. Just like
the Cinderella hero, Bilbo was probably not the dwarves' first choice

Literature : A Way Of A Person 's Mind Essay
Literature has a way of painting a picture in a person 's mind. An author will use a unique
combination of words and storytelling to create another world for the reader to envision. Often
times, these stories are nothing more than the creativity of the author to make something unique that
will draw a person in. These stories are usually based on very few real world occurrences, people
and places. However, if we look deeper into these stories, we can see a point of view into the world
the authors lived in. Authors have learned how to write fictional stories that engage people, while
unknown to the reader, the story is giving them an in depth glimpse into the political realm of the
author's life. No other important concept has been used in literature more than various forms of
discrimination. We can look at many stories and while it may not be shown right out, in many pieces
of literature we can see an undertone of discrimination. Two of the most common examples of
discrimination are racism and sexism. While reading different stories, I tried to look into them on a
deeper level and see the "between the lines" concepts that the author wanted us to see. I believe that
many authors want us to look deeper than the surface storytelling techniques to capture the true
essence of the story. Various forms of discrimination throughout history have been a literary staple
in many different fictional works. The definition of discriminate as defined by Webster

I Love You Wade Analysis

  • 1. I Love You Wade Analysis "I love you, Wade, you big idiot," Peter spoke, his tone almost too quiet even to his own ears. The only response he got in return was the light breeze blowing against his cheek and the gentle sway of the bare trees surrounding him. Paired with his own soft sniffles. Tears slid down his pink stained cheeks, he never thought he would have to be in this position. It was always assumed that it'd be the other way around, not to say that would be any better. A grave sat in front of him displaying his love's name in font almost too pretty to be appropriate. Flowers decorated the edges of the plot along with a little Canadian flag (courtesy of Steve after being told an American Flag would make no sense). The funeral had been weeks ago, yet the second date engraved into the stone still haunted Peter's thoughts. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His cancer was as bad as ever. His skin becoming almost too sensitive to touch. He remembers Wade telling him that even moving his eyes hurt him. Every detail of the last two months was etched into his memory, depriving him of sleep and making his appetite less than normal. His voice was always hoarse after falling asleep, his screams from the nightmares becoming too much for his throat to handle. A brief storyline of The Amazing Spider–Man 2 is that, the main protagonist Peter Parker discovers that his most critical battle is ready to begin. It is wonderful to be Spider–Man, but for Peter Parker especially, there is no feeling like swinging between towers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen Stacey who is a girlfriend and a helper of Peter. However, being Spider–Man has disadvantages: only Spider–Man could protect the New York citizens from the terrible enemies that threaten the New York City. The director maximized the audiences' feelings by using a slow motion skill while she was falling down to the floor and looking up the Spider–man, with her miserable eyes. At a moment of his web caught her body, her body dropped down on the ground and died. Finally, the Spider–man defeated the enemies and then coming down to the ground to check whether she was alive or not. At this moment, I thought that the director and editor intentionally deleted all background music to make audiences only hear his narrative telling to her. I only could hear him sobbing loudly and he was upset and expressing his deep grief due to the tragic circumstance. Personally, I did not cry with her death, but I realized something about hero's tragedy that the hero could not keep his love forever. Through her death, she might be a symbol to the Spider–man that just because he saved people, it did not mean that he is a savior of all people, including Gwen. In that perspective, Peter Parker is the protagonist and eventually Gwen's death was about how it affected our hero, but inside of that, they were able to produce the characters with real activity. Peter returned to home depressed and empty. He threw away his Spider–man uniform and mask for a long time. He talked with his aunt about how to move on from death and he visited Gwen's grave almost obsessively when every season passes. • 3. Aristotle 's Poetics And The Order Of The Phoenix Poetic Thinking (An Essay Applying Aristotle's Poetics to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix) Aristotle was a philosopher who revolutionized the world of theater with his essay entitled Poetics. Poetics is focused on what Aristotle viewed to be the ultimate form of theater, Tragedy. Aristotle thought that Theater should be a representation of real life. Shakespeare also followed this line of thinking as described in As you Like it, "All the world 's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances," In the essay, Poetics, the six basic elements of a great tragedy are outlined; the most important parts being plot, character, and thought. Aristotle's essay can be used to critique classical theater as well as more modern theater such as films. The film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix can be classified as a great tragedy, according to Aristotle, because it utilizes complex plot, invokes pity and fear on the main character's behalf, and is connected by plot instead of by character. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix follows a climactic plotline over the span of a year. As said by Aristotle, climactic plotlines are far superior to episodic plots. Aristotle states, "Plots of this kind are constructed by bad poets...they stretch the plot beyond what it can bear and are often compelled, therefore, to dislocate the natural order." • 5. Fate and Free Will in Harry Potter One of the most pondered questions in human existence is whether our lives are determined by forces which are beyond our control or by our own free will. It is widely believed that one's own destiny is created by fate. However, some also consider the possibility that one's own choices can determine the reality of one's existence. In Harry Potter, JK Rowling uses fate and choice as forces which shape the events revolving around her protagonist, Harry Potter, as well as the other characters in the story. Rowling does not side with one idea over the other, but instead, argues that both fate and choice are significant factors that determine the events which happen during the course of an individual's development. Their house becomes almost like a cult in which they live by: "Your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common–room" (85). Each of the students share the common goal of winning the House Cup for their house. Individualism, therefore, is constrained and each student is forced to act in a particular way in which they are expected to. Aside from the Sorting Hat, other forces of fate also take part in determining the students' house associations. For example, Harry is sorted into Gryffindor, the same house his parents belonged to. Similarly every member in the Weasley family had been a Gryffindor, while every member in the Malfoy family had been a Slytherine. This reinforces the idea that the events in each character's life are predestined. • 7. The Odyssey By Homer Is Considered The First And Greatest... One man said, "All men are created equal"; however, men treat women differently in today's culture. Society categorizes them as less intelligent, not capable of working in job fields such as construction, and generally less important than men. Because of these ideas, women do not have the same advantages as men. The importance is the effect it has on the progression of the future. Today, women have overcome most stereotypes, but there are still plenty remaining. Most stereotypes originate from ancient times, for example this theme is seen in the Odyssey, written by Homer, who is considered the first and greatest epic poet. Women face persecution daily through the media and society, yet the way society thinks towards them is changing. In the Odyssey, there is a demeaning description of women. The thought of how evil and useless women are shows up in all female characters. The main theory is women are possessions or prizes to be won. They are shown as malevolent, sinister beings with terrible intentions. Starting with Calypso, Homer describes her as evil and unfair. Calypso takes Odysseus captive and makes him become her boyfriend (Homer 485). There is no mention of Odysseus wanting to stay; therefore, it makes Calypso sound worse than she probably is. The reader infers how mean Calypso is when she says, "Oh you vile gods, in jealousy supernal!/ You hate it when we choose to lie with men–/ immortal flesh by some dear mortal side [...] Surely I cannot 'send' him,/ I have no ... I believe that all of the choices were credible and a viable topic in their own regards, but the reason this one hit home for me was because of the simplicity of the scandal. It's hard to believe that someone could have made off with the amount of money Bernard did when the idea of a Ponzi scheme was notable as early as the 19th century, and was named after Charles Ponzi in 1920 after his scandal created enough issues to make it more aware to the public of what was happening. The fact that this happened almost 100 years later at the level that it did and where it happened made me extremely concerned and interested in the topic. In this paper I will cover the details happening up to the scandal, the scandal itself, the people involved in the scandal, the legislation and regulations implemented after the scandal, and my views on the outcome of the scandal. Bernard Madoff was born April 29th, 1928 in Queens, New York. He grew up as a son of two Jewish parents, one of which was a stockbroker. He graduated from Hofstra University in 1960 with a degree in Political Science and then moved on to attend Brooklyn Law School where he dropped out to start and pursue his own company, Bernard L. Her first adult novel, The Casual Vacancy, explores more mature topics and is aimed at a new demographic than her previous works. She challenges social issues with her dark themes and her impeccable writing style captures the wide range of problems at the heart of a small town. It becomes more apparent throughout the novel that each character is connected in a web of misfortunes. Each individual has their own flaws and it becomes more apparent that there are additional underlying issues at the center of the "pretty little town" (Tait). J.K. Amusing Ourselves to Death: It's Time to Stop Laughing The form of communication created by the television is not only a part of how our modern society communicates, but is has changed public discourse to the point that it has completely redefined it, argued Neil Postman in his convincing book Amusing Ourselves to Death. He viewed this as very harmful, and additionally so because our society is ignorant of it as they quickly becomes engulfed in its epistemology. Instead he asserted that, supplied by the television's form, it is the change in the definition of how we learn, and thus perceive, the world around us that is under his criticism. When it comes to entertainment, Postman admitted that the television does an excellent job. "Television [...] serves us most usefully when presenting junk–entertainment; it serves us most ill when it co–opts serious modes of discourse– news, politics, science, education, commerce, religion–and turns them into entertainment packages" (159). David Heyman and the Harry Potter Film Franchise FTV 434 Taylor Grewe December 11, 2013 The role of a producer in the filmmaking process involves financial and technical responsibilities, as well as creative responsibilities. As the industry evolved, producers were typically associated with the financial and technical side of filmmaking, more so than the creative side. However, in the last three decades, more and more producers are being recognized for their creative involvement (Pardo 2). In 1997, David Heyman, a British film producer, discovered the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling (McNary). Almost immediately, Heyman began working to secure the film rights, having no idea that he was embarking on a project that, according to IMDb, would become the highest grossing film franchise in history (IMDb). His creative involvement, on the production of the films, stems from the fact that he truly loves the Harry Potter book series. The success of the franchise had much to do with what can be referred to as the "Potter formula": Heyman's direct involvement in the novel to film adaption process, his decision to work with a team of Potter fans, many of which returned to work on all 8 installments, and his careful selection of directors who shared his vision. • 19. Literary Criticism : ' Not Just A Pretty Face ' Alyshia Sechoka Dr. Catherine Cox History of Literary Criticism 2 December 2014 Not Just a Pretty Face METHOD Despite how the word may sound, deconstruction means to deconstruct, not to destroy. Deconstruction is always simultaneously affirming and undoing. Deconstruction refers to a technique for reading and analyzing texts developed by Jacques Derrida, Paul de Man, and others; this, in turn, is connected to a set of philosophical theories about language and meaning. As a result of the popularity of this technique and theory, the word "deconstruct" is often used as a synonym for criticizing or demonstrating the incongruity of a position. It is a way to interpret literary, religious, and legal texts as well as philosophical ones, and was adopted by French feminist theorists as a way to make clearer the deep male bias that was embedded in European literature and traditions. In order to deconstruct a text, one must take it apart along the structural "fault lines" (IEP) created by ambiguities that are fundamental in one or more of its key themes in order to reveal the contradictions that make the text possible. For example, Derrida, in "Plato's Pharmacy," deconstructs Socrates' criticism of written word. He contends that it suffers not only from inconsistencies internally because of Socrates analogy between memory and writing, but also because his ideas come to us only through his written word. Many deconstructive arguments center on the analysis of its oppositions. The person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Behaviorism emerged in the early years of the twentieth century as a counterbalance to the psychoanalytic approaches of therapy and psychology. Skinner was born in 1904, just nine years after Freud published Studies on Hysteria. Both of these opposing theories, psychoanalysis and behaviorism, have greatly influenced the way we think of the human mind. I will use behaviorism to approach my own inner introspection and hopefully come away from this more enlightened about myself. The classic nature verse nurture debate has been rocking the boat in psychology since Socrates' time. Skinner and behaviorists tend to lean much more towards the nurture side of this debate, believing that an individual's behavior is a direct consequence of what that individual has experienced in the past, especially within the context of reinforcement and punishment. Because of this emphasis on nurture, genes and genetics do not play as much of a role as the experiences one receives after being born. I lean more towards the behaviorists approach because what I have read about Skinner has resonated with me. The genes that one is born with gives the individual the genetic constitution that is capable of responding to external stimuli. If one has inherited genes that code for a more aggressive response to external stimuli, then that person may have a greater ability to be aggressive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Problem Of Climate Policy Essay Dana: Everything is off the record, but if we ever wanted to quote you for any reason, you would receive an email with a request and the actual quote in it. So, it is off the record, even though we are recording. Alex: Okay, that works. Joe: So the recorder is now on. Just by way of introduction, can you guys give us a little about your background with Nevada Climate and Energy Policy? Alex: Before we jump in, can you give us a little bit more context of what the end goal of the project is and what the big pitcher here is? Dana: Sure, I can do that. Basically the idea is that we publish a number of people looking at climate policy in the United States, particularly mapping out planet ploy network. One of the papers was published in Nature Climate Change on what we call echo chambers and American Climate Policies that Joe worked with me on. What we are planning on doing is updating that work, but also looking at network at the State level around energy politics. Particularly looking at clean energy networks there. The end goals will hopefully be some papers that we submit for peer review, where all the information provided is off the record. If we wanted to quote you, we would ask you for your permission, but then we are also going to be writing out some white papers that will summarize the finding that will be made publicly available to people. • 29. Essay about My Brilliant Racing Career As I enter my last semester of high school, I have to starting thinking about making a plan for the future. The problem for me was actually making a decision that would be right for me, I could not decide what I wanted to do until a few weeks ago. But I finally made my decision about what I think I will enjoy doing, and making a career out of it. There are many paths I can and could take, but the automotive area is the one that sticks out to me. The two technician schools I have chosen are UTI, Universal Technician Institute, and WyoTech University, both of which are tech schools and will help get started. But that is the path I have chosen to go for, and I am going to stick with it. Cars and other types of automobiles have always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is why I have chosen to go into the automotive world. In order to be like my grandpa, I have to start learning more about how he got to where he is. The first step for me to take is going to an automotive technician school. I found a few places such as UTI (Universal Technician Institute), and Wyotech University which are both great places to get started. My plan so far is to take UTI's 51 week starting program in order to get me going. After that I will be going to their main school in Charlotte, North Carolina. Once I'm there I will take a racing technician class which is around 15 weeks long, and that puts me right into the seat of racing. After researching some more I found out that if I am in the top 5 students of the racing program, I get the opportunity to be picked up and hired by an actual racing company such as Porsche, Ford, Mercedes, Chevrolet and maybe even McLaren, and get to work for them which would be an honor. But even to get that opportunity I have to start somewhere, and I feel like UTI is a good place for me to start. At UTI the learning environment looks like a collage campus from the outside, but on the inside it is one big garage full of all types of cars. The teachers are all certified automotive technicians and master mechanics; they will teach me everything I will need to know. Most of the students are like I am; we all share a burning passion and love for cars, and we all strive to gain more knowledge about them. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act H.R. 3590 (111th): Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act When president Obama was a candidate in the 2008 election he promised wide scale health care reform that would increase the availability and affordability of medical insurance for a large portion of the American population. At the time of his campaign, millions of low–income Americans were stuck in the Medicaid gap – where they could not afford health insurance, but also were not eligible for the joint state and federal government Medicaid program. This promise eventually became the bill later named the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that was passed by the senate on December 24, 2010. Of those people many were considered below the poverty threshold, however due to strict state regulations these individuals or families did not qualify for insurance through Medicaid. As a result, when these Americans needed to be seen by doctors, insured tax paying American's would be stuck with their bills. In order to alleviate this problem, president Obama decided to lead a major campaign to increase the affordability of health care. Through draft bills in the house and senate, the Affordable Care Act, commonly referred to as Obama Care, covers a large portion of Americans who before it became a law would be left without insurance. The bill has two main parts – making healthcare affordable to low income families and increasing the scope of Medicaid eligibility. Before ObamaCare, families and individuals who were not covered by employers for healthcare had to seek out insurance on their own. This task proved very difficult as insurance providers charged steep prices for coverage. In short, health care coverage was not affordable to a large portion of the population. The law seeks to cover Americans who are between 138% and 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. They can sign up for Health Care via a government run website, which will allow them to choose a plan that best suits their needs. A formula will then decide based on their state how much a plan will cost for them as well as how much of their health care is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Use of Vampire Characters in Novels The Gothic novel is not just an ordinary story of vampirism, it is rather a story about a very particular kind of myth that is very old, that goes back even before the ancient Greeks. In classical mythology there have been always stories about exotic lands inhabited by exotic creatures, there have been always a fascination with constructing images of monsters male and female. In classical mythology there have been always stories about the encounter between the mortal and the immortal, between the ordinary and the exotic. There have been always an attraction to images of monsters, designed to shock and horrify. In short various images of monstrosity are found in classical mythology. One of the most famous , the Sirens. Barbara Creed in her article "The Monstrous– Feminine: Stereotyping against the the Grain" writes in describing female monstrosity: "The Sirens were deadly to the male sex. Described as enormous birds with the heads of women, the sirens were able to sing beautiful haunting songs which they used to lure unwary sailors to shore, where submerged reefs tore apart their ships. These fatal creatures then devoured their prey...Like the sirens, female vampires have often been represented as beautiful, alluring creatures that seduce their victims before sucking their lifeblood from their veins"(Creed). • 32. Vocation "People of genius do not excel in any profession because they work in it, they work in it because they exel." Such a large part of our lives is figuring out what to do with our lives. There are so many options; often times people are lost as to where to go. In our society, many of the decisions we make are made with money in mind. People will do almost anything for money, even if that means being unhappy. This class, and my SI education in general has framed for me a new way of living. That is, living happily. This does not mean that the work/job I perform is not hard. Instead, it means, that I must find something that I enjoy doing, and find a career based around my interest. This concept is essentially vocation. Mick McCarthy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... McCarthy believes that he was partly shaped by his home environment (which was steeped in "civic responsibility") and his educational background. His Jesuit education at SI and SCU gave him the language "to access and discover what, at a far more profound and mysterious level, I so desired." In sum, McCarthy's discovery of vocation is a combination of mystery, history, desire and attraction. His approach in determination of a vocation appears to largely a dialogue with himself and God. Spohn frames his essay on vocation with Ignatian spirituality. He opens with a description of a job seeker who wants more than just financial compensation from his life work. He wants his job to have more meaning. In other words, this job seeker is called to the challenge of discernment in determining a vocation. Spohn breaks down the different aspects of how Ignatian spiritually helps one seek the right vocation for them. The first important step is prayerful reflection. This helps one understand personal desires, special talents and the needs of the world and helps set a foundation for seeking and choosing a path. "An authentic calling goes beyond personal fulfillment and satisfaction to a broader concern for justice which demands that the needs of others are addressed, even if they are strangers." ... The Extent to Which Psychological Theories Have Been Successful in Explaining Attachments There are various psychological theories to regard as which have been successful in explaining attachments and I will be explaining the majority of them. Sigmund Freud developed a theory of personality – an explanation of how each individual's personality develops. This theory can be used to explain many aspects of behaviour, including attachment. Feud proposed that attachment grows out of the feeding relationship. In essence Freud claimed that infants are born with an innate drive to seek pleasure. The relationship with the primary caregiver acts as a template for all later relationships However, the classic experiments of Harry Harlow (1959) on rhesus monkeys demonstrated that this theory was inadequate. This study concerned rhesus monkeys who were raised on their own by two 'wire mothers'. One wire mother had a feeding bottle attached and the other and the other was wrapped in soft cloth but offered no cloth. According to the learning theory, the young monkeys should have become attached to the 'mother' associated with food and offering drive reduction. In fact, the monkeys spent most time with the cloth–covered mother and would cling to it especially when they were frightened. These studies suggest that 'cupboard love' is not likely to be an explanation for attachment, though we must remember that this research concerned monkeys and it may not be wholly appropriate to generalise the findings to human behaviour. Schaffer and Emerson (1964) conducted an important study observing the development of attachments in 60 infants who came largely from working–class homes in Glasgow. The infants were observed over a period of a year in their homes. The results of the study proved that infants were not most attached to the person who fed them, nor to the person who spent most time with them. • 34. The Death Of The Frontier And Progressive Era Essay Ragtime is full with a myriad number of characters, from Harry Houdini to Booker T Washington, but the pivotal characters in my eyes were Mother and Father. There's something to be said when the main characters of a novel don't even have names, unlike the many other minor characters, who were major players in history. What makes them stand out even more is the fact that Mother and Father weren't the only fictional characters, however, they as long as all of the members of their family, including Little Girl who would join Mother's family at the end of the tale, were the only ones who were not named. That's because it's an obvious way for Doctorow to use them as a symbol for the typical middle–class American family during the Progressive Era. However, this is not the only role they had. In addition, the death of the Frontier and the birth of the Progressive Era is shown in Ragtime through the developing relationship between Father and Mother who represent the Frontier and Progressive Era respectively. The relationship they share is a unique one and vital to the image Doctorow is trying to depict, the change occurring in time. There's a reason Father and Mother, a married couple, were used in this way rather than another relationship, and that is because an era does not erratically die, but rather the merging of new and old ideas forms a marriage between the two eras before one is completed. Just like two time periods, Father and Mother change positions. While Father grows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Male Gaze In The Gaze The gaze is an important part of any literary work in that it defines the viewpoint from which the reader sees the rest of the story. The gaze, however, is also much more than a particular point of view. It is a conveyance of power, and a way in which a narrator is able to completely shape the way readers understand other characters in the story, imparting their own standards and beliefs onto an often unrealizing audience. The gaze has a very clear relation to power in the sense that it is what shapes how an audience sees certain things. An example of this is through the institution of white supremacy in media via the gaze of the mass media in the mid–20th century. As Bell Hooks explains, "when black people in the United States first had the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it be the console game or the video, the gaze conveys the same image: the woman is an object, there for the male to act upon, but without any input onto her surroundings of her own. This is especially important because Spiderman is primarily marketed towards a younger audience, thus imparting the male gaze upon young people who may never realize that they are being influenced. Mary Jane is the object of affection of not only Spiderman, but also of Harry Osborn, who becomes the villain Green Goblin. Here, we see Mary Jane as the object of desire for both hero and villain, and is subsequently captured and used to lure the hero into battle, where Spiderman must come to her rescue and save the day. And then, once rescued, of course, Mary Jane falls for her heroic savior, despite the obvious danger that his existence has placed her in throughout the course of the tale. But think, for a minute, what things would be like if they were portrayed from the female gaze, by way of Mary Jane. The story would be entirely different, with the men involved all becoming villains in their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Brainstorming and the Advancemenst in Idea-Generation Methods In his 1993 article, "In Search of...Good Ideas," Ron Zemke discusses the practice of brainstorming, particularly among quality teams. The foundation of Zemke's article is Alex F. Osborn's work from the 1930s which largely gave birth to the concept of brainstorming. In Applied Imagination, Osborn's 1957 best–selling book, the notion of "classic" brainstorming is explained with specific structure (Zemke, 1993). It includes five steps, four rules of conduct, and two core principles (Zemke, 1993). To begin, Osborn indicated that the brainstorming session should include five to twelve individuals, in addition to a trained facilitator (Zemke, 1993). The first step of the brainstorm is for the facilitator to prepare for the session by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the findings were unclear (Zemke, 1993). Arthur B. VanGundy Cast doubt on many of Osborn's theories (Zemke, 1993). VanGundy noted that the personality of the participants may be more important than the process they follow, and that asking those participants to come up with "high–quality" ideas was just as effective as when judgment was deferred (Zemke, 1993, p.47). VanGundy also found that the maximum number of participants should be eight or nine, rather than up to twelve as Osborn had proposed (Zemke, 1993). At the time of his article, Zemke suggests that there are numerous alternative idea–generation tools and methods in addition to the traditional brainstorm. Among the alternatives, two general categories emerge: interactive techniques and parallel techniques (Zemke, 1993). The Trigger Method technique follows a process which allows participants to evaluate each person's ideas individually, and then to evaluate and create a recommendation (Zemke, 1993). The SIL Method works to integrate all participants' ideas into one solution by adding ideas to the solution through a continual "add–an–idea" cycle (Zemke, 1993, p. 48). The process ends with one integrated idea (Zemke, 1993). The last of the interactive methods discussed is the Wildest Idea. Similar to classic brainstorming, Wildest Idea allows the facilitator to interrupt a group who may be in a rut, and suggest a crazy or impractical idea (Zemke, 1993). This allows ... Words like bravery, strength, pride, and self–sacrifice are commonly connected with a classic hero. But are those the only characteristics that make someone heroic? A dictionary definition of a hero is "a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities"; however, this is a very elastic definition and there are many other types and definitions of heroes depending on circumstances. A clear example is the incident with the spiders, where he angers them by calling them offensive names in order to give the dwarves a chance to escape. Despite all these differences, Bilbo is still accepted as a hero in today's society and does share some traits with the classic hero. One of the reasons I believe he is accepted in today's society is because he is easy to relate to, demonstrating pleasure in his domestic lifestyle, but at the same time, possessing a natural curiosity and a desire to enjoy the occasional adventure outside his comfort zone. He also has the admirable quality of loyalty and persistence. Even when "the dwarves wanted to know why he had ever been brought at all, why he could not stick to his friends and come along with them, and why the wizard had not chosen someone with more sense, and that 'He has been more trouble than use so far,' said one" (Tolkien 44), Bilbo still stuck by their side and helped them to the best of his abilities. • 39. Literature : A Way Of A Person 's Mind Essay Literature has a way of painting a picture in a person 's mind. An author will use a unique combination of words and storytelling to create another world for the reader to envision. Often times, these stories are nothing more than the creativity of the author to make something unique that will draw a person in. These stories are usually based on very few real world occurrences, people and places. However, if we look deeper into these stories, we can see a point of view into the world the authors lived in. Authors have learned how to write fictional stories that engage people, while unknown to the reader, the story is giving them an in depth glimpse into the political realm of the author's life. No other important concept has been used in literature more than various forms of discrimination. We can look at many stories and while it may not be shown right out, in many pieces of literature we can see an undertone of discrimination. Two of the most common examples of discrimination are racism and sexism. While reading different stories, I tried to look into them on a deeper level and see the "between the lines" concepts that the author wanted us to see. I believe that many authors want us to look deeper than the surface storytelling techniques to capture the true essence of the story. Various forms of discrimination throughout history have been a literary staple in many different fictional works. The definition of discriminate as defined by Webster ...
