cloud)
• The land was named Aotearoa.

3. MAUI’S CHILDHOOD
• Maui found his mother’s and brother’s house.
• His mum didn’t understand that it was her son.
• Maui’s brothers weren’t happy that Maui came in their house.
• Maui’s mum said:“Let him be your brother, if you are good
against the others, then other are are good against you.
• After this saying they were friendly with Maui.

4. FISHING UP AN ISLAND
• Maui and his four brothers wanted to go fishing.
• Maui made a magical fishhook.
• They fished up a huge fish.
• Maui’s brothers ate the fish.
• Now there are many mountains and lakes.

5. GODS IN NEW ZELAND
• Tumatauenga-God of war and balance.
• Tawhirimatea-God of weather.
• Tane-God of forest.
• Tangaroa-God of the sea.
• Rongo-God of food crop.
• Haumie-God of wild foods.

6. TINIRAU AND KAE
• Tinirau is a guardian of Fish.
• Hinauri, sister of Maui brothers marries Tinirau.
• When their child borns, priest Kae comes to perform the birth
ritual.
• Tinirau lends Kae one of his whales to get him home.
• Kae forces the whale into shallow water where it dies.
• Tinirau is furious and kills Kae.

7. HOW MAUI SLOWED THE SUN?
• Maui was annoyed with having to eat in the dark.
• He said that he will catch the sun and teach it to travel
slowlyer across the sky.
• Maui brought a jawbone down on the sun.
• Maui talked with sun.
