●Definition-A comparison of 2 unlike things using "like" or
"as".
● Example- He is as cold as ice.

3. Metaphor
●Definition-A comparison of 2 unlike things without using
"like" or "as"by saying one thing is another.
● Example-Time is money.

4. Personification
●Definition-Giving human traits(qualities, feelings or actions)
to non-human things.
● Example- The wind sang its mournful song through the
falling leaves

5. Alliteration
●Definition- Repetition of a consonant sound at the beginning
of 2 or more neighboring words.
● Example- Careless cars cutting corners create confusion.

6. Onomatopoeia
●Definition-The use of a word that sounds like an actual sound
that is heard.
● Example- "Vroom", goes the car engine.

7. Hyperbole
●Definition-A description that exaggerates.
●Example- He is so hungry that he can eat a cow.

8. Oxymoron
●Definition- A pair of words that contradict each other.
● Example- Awfully good

9. Idiom
●Definition- A phrase or expression that means something
different from what the words actually say.
● Example- The test was a piece of cake.
