FRP was developed during World War 2 and was primarily used for radar systems and aircraft structural parts. It has since been used for a variety of structural applications in construction, including roof sheets, water storage tanks, domes, structural sections, doors, windows, internal partitions, and temporary shelters. Over 50% of FRP is now used in the construction and transportation industries.
