Design Thinking Fit for Innovation
Innovation Games & Game Thinking
2. What Comes to your mind?
• Design Thinking
• Design Sprint
• Design UX
• Lean
• Lean Startup
• Lean Design
• Lean Thinking
• Lean Innovation
• Lean Flow
• Gamification
• Agile Fluency
• Management 3.0
3. Why We are here ?
• For Gyan – Which we already have a lot or we have
Googles and SIRI
• For Problem Solving Design Thinking
Workshop
• For Lean Innovation session so that our one
idea can rock the world
We are here to discuss very simple concept that if we think like human being – We can
innovate
5. Design Thinking : flow of stages

Through design thinking:
• Identify the right problem to solve,
• create and consider many options,
refine selected directions,
• pick a solution, and prototype one.
• Use employ tools such as customer
personas and journey maps along the
way.
• Switch between the steps when stuck
• Use empathy
6. Design Thinking in nutshell is:
▪ Evolved from building Physical Products
▪ An approach for better problem finding
▪ Elaborate Poorly bounded problems
▪ Find what user actually want , if unable to say
▪ Insights generated lead to reframe the problem
▪ Prototype created are used as mean on learning to make
sure we are focusing on right problem
▪ Test porotype to validate hypothesis that we have
understood the user
7. Lean Innovation
▪ Lean innovation enables tested hypothesis to build better products
faster with fewer resources. ( Solution focused)
▪ Continuously test assumptions and iterate on the product offerings
(better solution of the identified problem)
▪ It Permits to pursue more opportunities up-front, mature them a little
at low cost, and test them to see if they are worth the investment.
(Validate if the problem stated can be solved using this solution)
▪ Lean innovation can actually reduce overall R&D risk (Fail Fast and
early and jump to next solution than focusing on one- set based
approach)
8. Lean Innovation
Lean innovation is focused on:
• Prepare: Capturing customer feedback on
solution early and often and minimizing waste in
the product development cycle.
• Innovate: Keep on improving solution - celebrates
continuous, incremental improvement
• Optimize with lean innovation the proposed
solution
• Test the developing concepts in a very rapid way,
solution should be verified by user.
• Prepare for final Take Off (technology ready final
solution for market launch)
9. • The ability to identify new opportunities through the use of design thinking
• The ability to quickly, and with fewer resources, develop, prototype, learn, validate, and
improve business solutions
• The ability to apply lean processes, which enable teams to reduce waste, make incremental
improvements, and eliminate the bureaucracy that often hinders innovation
Where Lean Innovation meet Design Thinking
10. 1. Identify an opportunity ( problem) where you want to bring Innovation
2. Scope your goal – Identify one aspect which you would like to target first
3. Draft Your Design Brief – What do you actually think about that idea
4. Make Your Plans – Create your rough plan to do it People, activity, location etc.
5. Do Your research – Gather data by ethnographic interview ; What is
6. Identify Insights – Group & Analyse that data ; What is
7. Establish Design Criteria – Determine the ideal qualities or attributes of a solution
8. Brainstorm Ideas – With group of people ; What if
9. Develop concepts – Now Develop that concept
10.Create some Napkin Pitches – Pitch the ideas to the people
11. Surface Key Assumptions - Describe what you assumed ; what wows
12. Make Prototypes – Simple paper prototypes
13. Get Feedback from Stakeholders – Feedback from investors too - What works
14. Run Your Learning Launches ; between prototype to Pilot launch
15. Launch ;What works
How we will actually use it?
11. Workshop with the team for the remaining time on
Stay Fit : We feel that most health problems in the IT world people are due to less
physical activity and we should create a solution to help them.
Let’s Try it !!!
12. Divide the teams and actually tell them first to
Identify what is real problem, empathize with users use ethnographic
interviews to find the real problem – for eg it may be food, or
environment , or less water drinking, or staying awake late night,
wrong eating habits
Use Empathize, define, ideate, prototype and then
validate
Use Lean innovation to design solutions
Exercise or food schedule
Standing tables
Drinking regular water
Let’s Try it !!!

Techniques for Innovation – Cover Story
Cover – states the spectacular success accomplished
by the company
Headers – reveal what the story is about
Sidebars – include parts of the report
Quotes – testimonials about the accomplishment
from anyone imaginable
Images – pictures that support the cover story
Brainstorm – used for writing down ideas before
starting the activity

Empathy Map : A Visual Collaboration Framework
We can use this for Agile transformation Challenge with
leadership to understand the real thinking and feeling
a) Thinking & Feeling : What is important for them in this
agile transformation
b) Seeing: What is their Enterprise like/environment they
operate in
c) Pains: What are main or top 5 challenges they feel in
this agile transformation
d) Gains: What are their hope areas from this
transformation – 5 key benefits they feel
e) Hearing – What is influencing them to drive them
