2. MISSION BRIEFING:
To the office of His Royal Majesty, King Arronel TerranāAl
The recently discovered M-class moon designated MX-30 has been surveyed and recommended for colonization. Ecological and
geographical studies have shown that the moon suffered a cataclysmic volcanic eruption about 1000 years ago and the environment
has just recently started become habitable again. The Terra Nova Development Corp. would like to submit this moon for the project.
With some hard work and dedication, a group of volunteer colonists willing to brave this unknown moon should be able to repair
the eco system and stabilize the environment in about five to six generations.
A small island area has been sited and marked to begin the Terra Nova project on, this island is made from the remnants of the
volcanic crater that caused the cataclysm 1000 years prior and geological surveys show that the volcano is now classified as extinct.
The soil in and around the crater rim shows promising bacterial life that would sustain crops and provide new tree saplings with
the rich soil they need to grow and begin to clean the air of the carbon dioxide that is still in the atmosphere. Satellite sweeps of the
moon show other promising land masses with sufficient fresh water around the surface that could be useful for future expansion if
the Terra Nova Project is successful.
Training for this mission will begin with finding the right candidates from the colonists that have been informed and shown this
moon as part of the information packet we supplied them with. All we ask now is that Your Majesty will approve of our plan and
grant us the funding we need to begin. If Your Majesty has any other suggestions for this project, please do not hesitate to inform
us we would love to hear them.
Yours truly,
President Sapphira Scepter
3. FROM THE DESK OF HIS MAJESTY KING ARRONEL TERRANāAL
Dear Ms. Scepter,
I have read the reports and seen the survey photos of the MX-30 moon you wish to terraform and
I do have a few suggestions. Firstly, I want my son His Royal Highness Prince Sorrel TerranāAl
to be your project leader. My son is eager to be a part of this project and I believe that it will be a
good experience for him to learn how to run a colony and interact with his people. Secondly, I
will provide your project with royal funding when the news of my sonās progress comes in. I
understand that this new colony will need a place for the colonists and their descendants to
congregate and interact with one another, a series of community lots if you will. Thirdly, if this
project does in fact take five to six generations to complete as your briefing has stated, then it is
entirely possible that my sonās descendants will want to know where their ancestor came from. If
I do not live to see that accomplished I will leave detailed instructions with my daughter, Her
Royal Highness Princess Chiallenel TerranāAl for my sonās descendants and my successors if
they choose to return to their home world in the future.
I wish you great success in your project and hereby proclaim that you have the Crownās approval
to go ahead with this.
Cordially yours,
His Royal Majesty King Arronel TerranāAl
4. When my father said that he had approved of Dr. Scepterās proposition to terraform that
moon I knew it would be a lot of hard work and training for me. My older sister would
never do this, sheās always been more of a supervisor than a doer when it comes to things
like this. I donāt really like the idea of being under her supervision though, she will take it
way too far, I know my sister.
5. So I was sent off to this training facility with a bunch of other colonists to begin that training.
Why donāt they all look like me you ask? Well thatās because a majority of these colonists come
from another world called Terranon, itās part of the same star system that my planet of Terra
Prime is located in. Each of the planets in my star system have their own leaders and people, my
planet is ruled by my family, the TerranāAl family while the one I went to train on was ruled by
Emperor Juno. I had to make connections with the right people while I was here, they all wear
these black jackets I was told.
6. Some of these black jacketed people are harder to find than others, I only get vague clues
about them from asking around and found out this guy was one of them. I have to build
up my skills while Iām here, Iāve chosen to major in Biology as I believe itās important
to have a functioning health care system when youāre about to create a whole new
colony on a different world. So Iāll be the first doctor to do that for the new colony.
7. Asking the older colonists about their areas of expertise was also part of my training
here, having medical facilities is all well and good but you still need to feed those
people. Locating Culinary masters is vital, also having them in higher positions as well.
This woman was not high enough, a low level career position is not what I am looking
for. Once they get past the fact that Iām blue itās usually easier to get them to open up
to me once they find out who I am.
8. I will also need to find colonists who are in the armed services or law enforcement
careers, the people will need protecting as well. While the surveys of MX-30 showed no
signs of animal life, they have not fully mapped the moon yet. I would rather not be
caught off guard if by any chance something DOES find the colony and decides weāre
invaders that need to be taken care of. This woman has potential too, a mid-level career
position in the Military.
9. And of course, scientists would be attracted to the opportunity to explore a new world
so finding them is important too. I will keep a list of these potentials for my
descendants to meet. Locating skilled colonists is important but I must not forget that I
need a spouse too. That is a hard thing to do when you look like I do, it can be off-
putting to a potential mate but I have faith there is one out there for me. I just havenāt
found them yet.
10. Ah, yes with every colony there will be crime. That will be a problem in the early days of
the colonyās establishment. One day I hope one of my descendants will address this
concern but for the meantime I would need other colonists who have skills and
professions that are necessary to build a civilization with. Dealing with the inevitable
crime will have to come later.
11. I found the right colonist in the right level position of Culinary when I was nearing the
end of my search. Janna Kelley is a level 7 Sous-Chef, she is perfect for my needs and for
my plan to start this colony off right. Perhaps she will also agree to be my spouse? I
will wait on asking her that as I have studying to do first if I want to establish a health
care system on MX-30, and I think I will have to change that designation too, how
aboutā¦Terra Nova? It sounds much better and more positive.
12. One night I was accosted by this impertinent woman wearing the same black jacket as
those I had been looking for when I first arrived. Their method of contact leaves much to
be desired, had I been given security by my father this act of aggression would not be
tolerated. Assaulting a member of the royal family is usually punishable by deathā¦I
wonder if she knows that?
13. I hope she realizes that if she harms my hands she will be jeopardizing her future should
she ever need medical attention. The seat in the vehicle that this woman forced me into
could break my arms apparentlyā¦
I am not a confrontational person by nature but this womanās uncouth treatment of a
prince is sorely testing my royal resolve. Perhaps there will be an explanation of her
actions when the driver of this vehicle delivers me to wherever I am headed in this state.
I doubt they mean me harm, but one can never be too sureā¦
14. I understand now, these people are a Secret Society that has been here for generations
on Terranon. This is their lair and bringing me here in such an ungraceful fashion is all
a part of their initiation rites. They will provide me with a domicile should I need it,
when I graduate and begin my journey on Terra Nova.
15. Such a strange place this lair of theirs, it looks far too small to be a lair for this many
people. I will explore it a bit to see what they have to offer but I really must be getting
back to my dormitory, I have a lot of studying and skilling to do before I graduate.
16. I do not think this jacket and suit match my style though so I do not think I will wear it
that often. I will head back to campus now though, there is much to do still in the two
years I have remaining in this training program.
17. I could have found my own suitable housing on campus by this point, I had the money
for it, but it will sit unused for far too long after I leave. Studying here with all the
distractions is counterproductive to my degree. Also this wretched Cow keeps setting off
the sprinkler system when I am trying to study. It has ruined many books with the
water.
18. Spending time getting to know Miss Janna has helped me deal with the stress of my dormitory. I do
believe I will ask her to be my mate once I graduate, her skills will be a tremendous help to the
colony I wish to establish on Terra Nova. I only hope that Miss Janna will agree to it, the journey
will be harsh at the beginning, and not at all easy. My father will only contribute funds when he
receives reports of my progress so I am learning to stand on my own, rather than in his shadow.
My father is great king and I hope to be a great leader like he is one day. I want to be remembered
for doing this long after I have perished from this life.
19. I took Miss Janna out to dinner, I learned that this is customary on her home world when
one is courting. And I do see the appeal of it now that I have experienced it first hand. It
is a good chance to engage with another person in a peaceful setting. I have never tasted
food like this before, it is quite enjoyable.
20. The ādinnerā was a success. Miss Janna has told me that she shares my vision for the
colony and wants to be a part of it, and more than just because of her job she apparently
likes me as well. This turn of events does ease my mind a lot and I am pleased that I no
longer have to find a mate.
21. The dinner went very well and by the end I could share my First Kiss with Miss Janna.
It is another custom on her home world that many young people yearn to experience.
Courtship on Terra Prime is nothing like this, it is a lot more complicated and I am glad
I could learn a new way of courtship.
22. Senior year has begun in my training program and I am saddened to say that I will not
have as much time to see Miss Janna as I would like. The course load is getting more
intense and involved and it needs my full attention right now. Skilling is crucial to that
course and I have many dorm mates who are willing to help me with that, as it benefits
them as well.
23. My degree does not involve skills in creativity to be completed but I want to do it
because if I cannot see Miss Janna I need another outlet to deal with the stress of the
course, and I find painting to be a good way to deal with that problem. I also make
money which helps too.
24. Painting in the dark, sometimes I get so involved with my art that I donāt notice the sun
has set. I know it is a passion of mine when I get going and am so close to maxing all my
skills. Itās always good to have a well rounded skill set when you are going to establish
an entire colony.
25. I am afraid I was lacking in the physical skill while I concentrated on my academic
pursuits and I needed to use a fair amount of my accumulated finances to purchase this
treadmill. Although I do trust my dorm mates to treat it with care after I graduate, I
still wish I could take it with me to the colony site, it would very useful there.
26. I completed all my skills with this painting and I feel that I am well prepared for the
harshness of the colony once I graduate, there is something I need to do before that
happens though; I must state my intentions to marry Miss Janna in the manor that
she is accustomed to on her world.
27. I am pleased to report father, that she accepted with glee when I gave her the ring with
the compressed coal on it. I know they call it a diamond but I still see it as a compressed
lump of coal. I will never call it that when I am speaking to Miss Janna however.
28. At last, I have graduated. Summa Cum Laude and a 4.0 GPA. I am ready to begin the
colony as soon as I make the call for the shuttle to take me to the ship and then to Terra
Nova. I have learned there will be some brave colonists who will also be joining me on
the ship to Terra Nova, although they will have to complete some additional training
before I can meet them on the surface.
29. I sold the treadmill, purchase a crate of Smart Milk for my future offspring to use, and I
have my diploma and a chess set in my personal affects for the journey to Terra Nova. At
least I got some semi-decent clothing to go there in. I have heard stories about the lack of
cloth and other materials to make clothing which will not be arriving any time soon.
30. Some pre-work had been done to colony site before I arrived but that was all they could
do. This extinct volcanic crater will be the future site of Terra Novaās first colony. It is
small but the soil can be good with some nurturing and care and it will provide the
colonists with their own food grown here in the future.
