Poverty
19.3 Poverty A large section of the Indian society is suffering from poverty. Poverty is a phenomenonSocial Problem :: 201 which is objective as
well a subjective. Objectively poverty implies a dehumanizing condition in which people are unable to look after the basic needs. Subjectively
poverty stands for perceived deprivation. As such it is relative and any body can feel poor by comparing himself as herself with a rich person. Poor
people lack the necessary resources and capacity to satisfy basic needs like food, shelter, health and education. They live under difficult conditions
which are not conducive for development of their human potential. As you have learned earlier in the lesson 10 and 11 that for healthy human

The lack of these skills renders them deprived of the opportunities for upward social mobility. Such people have to depend on others for various
things and are exploited in various ways. For example the poor rural people are asked to put their thumb impression of various legal documents
and are subjected to exploitations and legal hassles. Keeping these negative consequences in view the government is trying to universalize primary
education. The lack of reading and writing skills makes a person incapable of availing the various opportunities to help themselves. Each and every
educated person, therefore, is expected to contribute to the literacy mission and making it a success. IMPACT OF MODERNIZATION ON
INDIAN SOCIETY Indian society is very old and surviving even after many ups and down and social issues. This article involves a brief about the
Indian society and impact of the social process of modernization and westernization on it. How the Indian society has implemented these both
processes and to what extent. Society is a platform that gives a shape to the people's livings, demands, aspirations, needs and all kinds of growths.
When numerous people having diverse mindsets, aspirations and demands yet live together for a common cause is what we understand by the society.

Applying A Gender Based Violence Approach Essay
Applying a gender–based violence approach, this paper will explore life realities for a Moroccan women's center serving women from 18 to 70 years
of age, mothers, educated or not, living in a rural and urban environment and, for too many of them, their horrific predicaments. Primary research
methods will integrate "participant observation and semi–structured interviews" (DeWalt and DeWalt 2002) with females victims of gender based
violence (GBV) and the center staff members. This study aspires to determine what aspects lead Moroccan women to seek assistance, categories of
assistance available, challenges Moroccan women face and future opportunities for recognition and socio–legal support.
Results denote a lack of social support to women victim of violence, lack of social and economic support for the center we will rest our research on,
degraded service capacity, and the practice of deceit in interactions between women and staff ingrained in a cultural notions of shame. Future prospects
for program development and sustainability will also be discussed. This ethnographic proposition we will submit hopes to promote a richer
understanding of gender based violence in local contexts through the investigation of women victims' experiences of gender–based violence in
Moroccan society and how these dramatic encounters impact the reality and capabilities of social service and legal provision.

Electronic Waste: A Growing International Problem
Background:
Electronic waste is a growing international problem that is affecting millions of people in developing countries. The United States is the biggest culprit
exporting old, obsolete, and broken electronics to developing countries. One problem with the electronic recycling program in the United States is
often, when people drop off their old electronics to companies for recycling, many companies find it more cost effective to transport the waste for
money, sending it to third world countries where labor is cheap, and where a profit can be made for both the companies and individuals in developing
countries. Developing nations such as China, India, and Ghana hold the largest digital dumping grounds in the world. Hundreds of millions of tons of
electronics are shipped and processed in homes, backyards, and large open fields. In her article, Environmental policy analysis, Luther, states
Proliferation of and increasingly rapid technological advances in electronics mean that the volume of e–waste generated in the United States is large
and growing. Data regarding electronic products sold, stored, recycled, and disposed of are limited. However, in 2008, EPA completed a study that
attempted to gather more current data. According to that study, in 2007, of the 2.25 million tons of televisions, cell phones and computer products
ready for end–of–life (EOL) management, 18% (414,000 tons) were collected for recycling and 82% (1.84 million tons) were disposed of, primarily in

Unit 2 Research Paper
The first thing to look at that can explain the difference in productivity is the productivity of the individual employees i.e. labor. It might be that the
employees on factory 1 are less literate than employees on Factory 2. Illiteracy is one of the major impediment to productivity and having the same
number of employees does not guarantee the same level of productivity especially if the one lack basic education.
The second factor might be that Factory 2 has had more capital investment than Factory 1. The capital investment might be in a form of new equipment
and technology and yet this alone does not guarantee improved productivity. There needs to be continual support and improvement throughout the
factory and this might be happening in factory 2. The capital investment of Factory 2 is more important in a sense that you still need to train employees
on the new equipment and being illiterate is major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diamond have always been held as a symbol of wealth is many different societies throughout history and the appeal has not evaporated for over
thousands of years.
Industrial use of diamonds
Diamonds is the hardest known natural material in the world. The hardness of this mineral as well as their thermal conductivity is the main reason it
has found many industrial uses. A total of 80% of mined diamond are unsuitable for use as gemstones and are used for industrial purposes.
Well established supply chains
Diamonds have been known to man since ancient times and with new technology of the 21st century many diamonds rich areas have been identified
and supply chain been established in line with those reserves.

Analysis Of The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By...
The essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" written by Jonathan Kozol and published in Readings for Writers in 2013, conveyed an
extremely important message throughout. Illiterate American's struggle with simple daily tasks which many of us take for granted. The amount of
illiterate people in our society is much higher than it should be. According to the essay, there are millions of Americans who fail to excel in the
ability to read and write. Such a large number of people have a problem with this that evidence has shown that if those people were able to read and
write and could consciously make a decision to vote for the president of the United States, there would likely have been a different outcome to the 1980
presidential election.

Literature Review Of Literature On Human Trafficking
Introduction
Human trafficking "shall mean the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or
other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of
payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include,
at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar
to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs" (Protocol To Prevent, 2).
Currently there are approximately 21 million people being trafficked globally including 1.5 million in the United States. The United Nations in the year
2000 created the Palermo Protocol to help fight human trafficking. This protocol sets up the policies that should be implemented by each country
regarding the laws and prevention, as well as, rehabilitation and restitution of victims. Despite the protocol, the number of convictions globally between
2005 and 2012 averaged less than 4,000 (Infographic, 2017).

School Vouchers are the Solution Essay
We, as human beings, irrespective of our backgrounds, traditions and cultures, believe in certain fundamental ideals. We want all our children to have
access to a good, overall education regardless of family income; we want to make sure that they are prepared for times to come; we want them to be
responsible adults; and expect that these qualities are fostered in them through learning in their familial environments, friend circles and most
importantly through the institution called school. The growing idea has been that these ideals may only be achieved through a universal centrally
planned system of tax–funded schools, commonly known as "public schools". People tend to misunderstand the ideals of public schooling and confuse

They lack the very vital skills that employers find necessary, for instance, they have trouble even reading the dosage on an aspirin bottle (2). To add to
that, "32 to 36 percent of Americans with no income source and 34 to 44 percent welfare recipients struggle to perform most basic reading, writing and
quantitative tasks"(2). Thus, it is clear that the present system is unable to grant the education that it has always promised and much of the money
utilized in bringing about improvement is wasted. This is where, I feel, the market–system, with its abundant, competitive suppliers of education can
bring about a change, where modern tuition vouchers will take care of any financial assistance crucial to keeping the system going.
School vouchers are a form of scholarship, which transmits the flow of funding that is devoted to education and directs it to consumers rather than to
school districts. This gives families the freedom to choose any school and thus send their children to institutions they feel are best suited to their
children's needs. There are government funded vouchers, as well as that made available by private institutions. I feel that one good way would be to
do it through gigantic corporations, who have the capital and may find it to be a useful way of publicizing their names. What I admire about the
market system is that there is an inherent personal benefit involved in every action by everyone who plays a part in the action:

Some oral traditions claim that khat originated from Yemen, however the literature indicates that khat originated from Ethiopia, specifically in Hararge
with a gradual expansion to different parts of Ethiopia, Yemen and other parts of the world as cited by Huffnagel in1961 (Dechassa ,2001).
In Ethiopia khat is an important and potentially lucrative cash crop. The employment opportunity created through the cultivation of khat is very high in

Rhetorical Rationale
Rhetorical Rationale
In this rhetorical rationale on English 1010, my purpose is to professionally present a rhetorical analysis of this review. Since day one of my
English 1010 class, I have learned a lot about rhetoric, it has been long time since I was in school, I didn't know what ethos, logos or pathos meant.
And that when you read an essay, an article, a book, newspaper, etc, they all have a purpose and an audience. For me it is really hard to understand
when I read and write something because the minute I finish reading it, I forget what was all about. With all I have learned in this class now I can
concentrate and focus more, I'm able to identify the parts of a rhetorical triangle, I know how to write a summary and rhetorical analysis. ... Show more

and how it has been measured using the Gini index for about a century on a scale from zero to one. The purpose behind this essay is to persuade
readers to push from the middle class–rich to a poor American citizen to have the same opportunities. In the beginning of the essay Jill Lepore
develops Logos of the argument. An example of This is "Income inequality is greater in the United States than any other democracy in the developed
world. Between 1975 and 1985, when the Gini index for U.S households rose from .397 to .419 as calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau, the Gini
indices of United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden, and Finland ranged roughly between .200 and .300, according to national
data analyzed by Andrea Brandolini and Timothy Smeeding", (page 1) this rhetorical strategy is effective because Ms. Lepore provides statistics and
years, which it shows that the author has put research hours into the argument. The next strategy Jill Lepore applies is Pathos, telling stories of those
who are suffering inequality. "Everyone caring about every else's kids–that had made it possible for Don and Libby to climb out of poverty in the
nineteen fifties and the nineteen sixties, "Nobody gave a shit" David says", "The American dream is in crisis, Putnam argues, because Americans
used to care about other people's kids and now they care about their own kids. But he writes "America's poor kids do belong to us and we to them.

Equilibrium And Education : The Modern Day American Society
Equilibrium in Education
Throughout American history, there has been waves of different economic standpoints. From the thriving economy in the early 1900s, to the infamous
downfall of the stock market that lead to the Great Depression in the 1930s. America has always faced different obstacles that has shaped the modern
day American society. Poverty levels have increased rapidly which sparked interest in some organizations to create a campaign called "Do Something",
which advocates improving American lives through better education and higher quality of living. One statistic given was that, "In 2011, nearly 46.2
million Americans were living in poverty" (11 Facts). With many occupations requiring some type of post–secondary education. How can the quality of
life be improved if a myriad of people are facing such high levels of poverty and cannot afford the cost of that higher education? Obstacles in obtaining
an education beyond high school come from the prejudice in education by making it affordable to those with the ability to pay the out of pocket costs.
Social inequality has kept people who reside in the lower income classes from progressing through a higher education . It is prevalent that in American
history, that those who are privileged white men can obtain a higher education than one who is a minority. Post–secondary education must be made
accessible to all in order to ensure that everyone has equal access to a higher quality of life. Post secondary education can be

How Is Unemployment Linked With Poverty
Yuvraj Suri– Employment How has Unemployment been linked with poverty in past few years? Unemployment lies at the core of poverty. For the
poor, labor is often the only asset they can use to improve their well–being. Hence the creation of productive employment opportunities is essential for
reducing poverty and it is crucial to provide decent jobs that secure income for the poor. As the rate of unemployment increases the poverty would

No Education or illiteracy. This is a simple and best logic. If a person is educated there is only a minor chance for him to be unemployed. But in
many poor countries people have to suffer being unemployed. That is why people in many countries have started projects to stop this poverty. No
education means unemployment and unemployment means poverty. This is a cycle that the poor people go through. Economic Inflation.
Inflation is one of the oldest causes of unemployment. The economy faces a steep rise in prices as compared to other economies of the world.
This leads to failure in exports as companies are not able to compete with others due to rise in price. Incomes suffer, people 's savings fall and
gradually companies start firing people, being unable to pay them on due time. Thus, the rate of unemployment increases. Future Scenarios It is
obvious that if unemployment continues to increase in future, Poverty would rapidly increase and this would not be a good situation for the
LEDC'S as People would die of Hunger. This can be a bad state for the future generation as they would have nothing to live for. Desperate people
will resort to crime to have the basic necessities of life. Depression and illness could be brought on by trauma. The list can go on, This is why People
now have to understand and get their kids educated so that they can have a good future.

Vulnerability And Risk Of Poor Health
INTRODUCTION Everyone is potentially vulnerable at some point over the extent of one's lifetime. More specifically, everyone is potentially at risk
of poor physical, psychological, or social health. The word vulnerable is defined by the Merrian–Webster's Dictionary as "capable of being physically
wounded" or "open to attack or damage". Commonly, the word vulnerability indicates one's susceptibility to health problems, harm or neglect. Some
however, maybe more or less susceptible or at risk of poor health at different times in their lives, while certain individuals and communities are more
likely to be at risk than others at any given point in time (Aday, 1994). Thus, vulnerable populations may be defined as social groups with an
increased susceptibility to adverse health outcomes (Flaskerud & Winslow, 1998). A fundamental component to the definition of vulnerability is the
concept of risk, or the relative probability that an individual may become ill within a given period of time (Aday, 1994). Community and individual
characteristics are risk factors predictive of the incidence of vulnerability. Risk factors, for example smoking or lead exposure, are attributes that are
related to increases in the probability of occurrence of health–related outcomes (Aday, 1998). Evidence of differences in vulnerability or increased risk,
which lead to negative health outcomes include: premature mortality, comparative morbidity, decreased functional and mental status, decreased ability

China's Economic Reform
China's economic reform has attracted worldwide attention. From the early stage of mainly export–oriented industries with cheaper labour costs to
more recent foreign investments aiming to tap the huge domestic market, China, especially eastern region has gradually opened up to the rest of the
world. While this research study is not only of vital importance to China, but also meaningful to the FDI development efforts to the individual regions
in other countries. This research provides the empirical evidence that GDP which proxies for the market size was a great attraction power for FDI in
China. The labour quality and the level of infrastructure are positively connected with the FDI growth and become crucial determinants of the FDI
distribution in eastern China.Besides, the degree of openness and labour costs show the negative relevance to the FDI in The twenty–first century is a
century of intellectual competition; thus the human capital of knowledge, intelligence and labour quality will surely be crucial factors relative to FDI.
Past studies (Bhagwati and Srinivasan, 1983; Sun et al., 2002)also found a correlation between the level of labour quality and FDI. The development
of labour quality is a key point to both export–oriented FDI and market–seeking FDI. But on the Chinese mainland, for every 100,000 people, there are
only 3,611 who have received a higher education and 11,146 ones who have received a secondary school education. There are 85 million illiterate

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health– education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal–investment on the
other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of
human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive
education expenditure as 'consumption' and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of
backward castes and women as 'welfare' but must be treated as 'capital formation'.
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections
who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people
took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human
capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly
organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts
have to be made towards reducing discrimination in schooling, improving

The National Health Service ( Nhs )
Financial Dilemmas
The National Health Service (NHS) was established in 1948 and has been regularly described as the envy of the world. Successive Governments have
remained committed to its founding principle; universal service free at the point of use. NHS is funded through general taxation and its current budget
is around ВЈ110 billion. It is facing unprecedented and increasing pressures that threaten to overwhelm its capacity. The population is ageing and there
is a significant increase in the number of people with long–term conditions; for example heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Expensive new
treatments, new medical technologies and high public expectations are continually adding to the financial pressures on the NHS. Unhealthy life style
is adding
There has been a revolution in developing new cancer drugs that both prolong life and improve quality of life. They are more specific, more effective
and safer. However, many of them are exceptionally expensive. NICE is responsible for deciding whether new treatments are cost effective and
whether they should be funded by the NHS. Independent committee reviews the evidence for efficacy and then looks at cost effective (specifically
cost–utility) analysis before making their recommendation. This seeks to establish whether differences in expected costs between options can be
justified in terms of changes in expected health effects. Health effects should be expressed in terms of QALYs. Two different variables are used

The Human Development Plan of Indonesia
Barro (1996) argues that there is a connection between the health levels of a country and its economy. The connection is two–way, forming a feedback
loop. Improved health outcomes allow people to be more productive. More productive people earn more, and are therefore able to pay for better
health care, and this becomes a cycle in society. Thus, societies with higher levels ofhealth care have healthier and therefore more productive
workers. Indonesia does not score well on health care in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) human development index, with a life
expectancy at birth of 69.4 years. Public expenditure on health is just 1.2% of GDP, meaning that there is little contribution to health care, and most
Indonesians rely on cash payments or private insurance for whatever health care they receive. The country has a plan to offer coverage to 100% of its
people by 2014. There are doubts about whether this can be implemented due to the cost and complexity of the project. There are significant gaps
between health care in major cities and health care in rural areas and on remote islands (Franken, 2011).
A company operating in Indonesia is likely going to need to supply supplemental coverage to most employees. The national plan, when implemented,
will only cover visits to Class III hospitals. Managerial workers in particular will want insurance provided that would give the access to better
hospitals. High–quality private hospitals are available for executives and

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Kozol Analysis
Summary and Response of the essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society"
Summary: In the essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" written by Jonathan Kozol, and published in Readings for Writers in 2013, Mr.
Kozol is raising awareness to the literate society about the danger our people are heading towards with the lack of literacy in our country. Kozol used
a few strong points to prove his point. First, the voters of our country; how they cast their vote on the candidate that attracts their eye the most.
Secondly, real life situations of how people go about being illiterate. Lastly, personal stories; how it made it a bigger concern in his life.
Response: Every four years our country is faced with choosing a president to represent a lead our country. There is so much to look into when
choosing your president, more than what you hear your candidate say on television. While it shouldn't be an issue to look into a read on paper, online,
everything you need to know about your candidate, for millions of people it is. Mr. Kozol stated that in 1980 presidential election, 16 million illiterate
citizens cast their vote. If they were literate, perhaps the outcome would have been different. These people look at image and nice words when it comes
to making their decision to vote. That's actually very scary to think about. Anyone can put out a pretty,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Narrative Research Method
THE NARRATIVE RESEARCH METHOD
The use of narrative research in IS has been limited although there have been some recent publications (Alvarez & Urla, 2002; Davidson, 1997;
Dube & Robey, 1999, Hirschheim & Newman, 1991). Table 2 lists some of these studies. However, the clear understanding of how to
conduct, interpret and describe narrative research in the context of information systems does not exist and is being provided in this paper. Here, we
explain the theoretical foundations and key elements of narrative research and present an exemplar of the application of this method.

In this study, a brief overview of the research was followed by the open–ended question. "I am studying the role of ICT in socio–economic
development; please tell me the story of your life." The goal is to provide the storytellers with flexibility and choice to narrate the story in a way that is
most comfortable to them.
According to Riessman (1993), there are five steps to conducting and analyzing narratives:
Attending. This deals with the notion of how a storyteller reflects, remembers, and recollects the "primary experience". It is important to pay attention
to how a storyteller makes sense of an experience, the context of the experience itself, and his/her selectivity of the experience.
Telling. The "performance of a personal narrative". A storyteller sequences and orders the events of the experience in a particular way. Meaning is
constructed by the storyteller about his/her experience at this level. The narrative method allows for flexibility in how the story is communicated.
While oral tradition is the oldest form, other expressions such as biography, story, novel, essay or even a drawing could communicate how people
interpret a phenomenon.
Transcribing. This step refers to choice of putting words into text/language, "a fixation of action" for interpretation. This step does not necessarily mean

The Use Of Computers And Technology For Criminal...
Cybercrime is the use of computers and technology for criminal activities. Crimes that are committed in the virtual realm encompass a wide category.
Thanks to the easy availability and increasing dependence on technology, cybercrimes are a fast–growing criminal undertaking that is limitless in its
potential. With the fast–pace advancements in technology, cybercriminals are evolving their methods faster than law enforcement can advance theirs
making it difficult to incriminate them. In addition, the lack of a physical barrier, as well as the lack of an individual or corporation knowing they are
victims, makes it difficult to trace the criminals because no barrier is preventing attacks from occurring, or isolating it to a local area, and because
attacks do not cause physical or mental harm. However, with research and resources, law enforcement has identified a common medium a
cybercriminal uses to commit crimes: crimeware, commonly known as computer viruses. When discussing cybercrime, common terms that come to
mind are viruses, hacking and online identity theft. All these three terms share a common characteristic: they all require software. Hackers use software
to plant viruses to steal information. Crimeware "is a subclass of [malware]" (Emigh, 2006, p. 246) and is defined as a software running without the
consent of a victim for nefarious purposes. Crimeware is routinely used to commit online identity theft. This is achieved typically through phishing,

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
Throughout English 1010 thus far, I can certainly say that my writing skills have been tested and tried. Writing for fun and composing rhetorical
essays for a college–level English class are vastly different styles and require contrasting attitudes, voices, and points of view for each. Before writing
essays of the former diction, I must admit that I did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical triangle. The
assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made in my writing with an academic tone.
While writing my summary and response for the essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" by Jonathan Kozol, I quickly became aware of my
weaknesses with shortening and summarizing essays. Especially when trying to identify rhetoric, I tend to run on and have difficulty cutting out the
extraneous and superfluous content. Luckily for me, that was the entire point of the assignment and I filed those skills away for the sake of my future
writing career. When revisiting this piece, I found that there were certain sentences throughout that used opinion and have no place in a summary.
For some reason, the visual analysis assignment was by far my most difficult essay to finalize and compile into a ... Show more content on

That being said, other times you learn just as much from revising your work as you did from completing the initial assignment. Refining my rhetorical
analysis was indeed an experience of both – troublesome and rewarding. Since my academic voice is somewhat similar to when I began this class, I
decided to simply move and alter bits and pieces of the text. The biggest change was correcting the many instances where I use the wording "the
audience," rather than the actual, specific target audience of the paper. This helped me implement much better usage of my understanding of the
rhetorical triangle. Adjusting wording and phrasing also bettered the

Abstract
This paper attempts to establish the factors that affect sustainable women education in Nigeria. The paper found out that non–participation of women in
education programmes was as a result of some limiting factors and proffers solutions to such.
Introduction
It is not that there are no studies or recommendations on how to resolve women's educational problems; it is rather than the recommendation for the

Women play constructive, complimentary and fundamental roles in the society. The education of woman in the formal education exposes her to
available information that could aid them in responsible behaviour for effective and efficient motherhood. Education confers undoubted benefits on the
individuals and the society especially when it is appropriate to the goals and aspirations of the society.
Based on the above, Nyerere (1970) stated that education should be designed to meet the economic and developmental circumstances of a nation. It is
in realisation of the above that women need to participate in the socio–economic development of any nation which is in consonant with the United
Nations advocacy which led to pronouncement of a decade for women (1975–1985).
According to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3010: XXVII, the decade was aimed at addressing issues relating to the educational
advancement of women with the over riding goals being that of developing their potentials, contribute to and benefit from development (United
Nations, 1985). The United Nations in a publication titled "The
Nairobi Forward Looking: Strategies for the Advancement of Women", published in 1985 provided a framework for renewal commitment by member

Introduction
Bibliography A examines of the impacts of colonial rule in India. It investigates the general notion that British rule was damaging to the Indian
economy in such that it was exploitative and primarily served the economy of Great Britain. It also evaluates other consequences it had on education,
social structures and institutions, Indian culture and the net effects on the state of the country at independence.

This chapter contrasts the economic and social structures of India during the Moghuls and the British rule. It discusses the nature of British colonialism
in India and focuses on the establishment of a new westernized elite, changes to and agriculture and the economic burden of foreign rule.
Maddison (1971) states that the most significant change to the Indian social structure was the abolition of a class of warlords and the introduction of a
competent bureaucracy and army. Certain positive impacts of colonialism translated into the abolition of slavery, legalizing the remarriage of widows
and the denouncement of sati and introduction of a penal code that introduced some

Elegy For My Father Poem Analysis
Diaspora is a loaded expression that evokes diverse challenging thoughts and images. This term may also be regarded as a synonym of dislocation,
multiplicity, cultural conflicts, and marginalized subjects who reside on the periphery of two different lands. Sudesh Mishra delineates this notion as
"dual territoriality" since the subject has to contend with conflicts which are produced as a result of a life between "hostland and homeland". According
to Mishra, "suspended between two such terrains (living without belonging in one, belonging without living in the other), diasporas are seen to
represent a new species of social formation" (16). Further in his book, Mishra confers the dichotomous notion of the subject being split between two

In this poem an association between memory and faith can be seen in the lines "memory believes" and "can knowing remember?"(16). In "Elegy
For my Father", being the oldest of the three children, Alexander is beckoned by the priests to cover her dead father's eyes. This moment makes
her think about the futility of life, "If this is the end of life,/ . . . .what use are gnanam, /dhanam, kavya?" (15). She reminisces certain poignant
moments spent with her father. Being a "loudmouthed teenager", Alexander asks her father, "Do you love me?" and gets a reply "some things
need not be said"(13). It is a powerful poem highlighting a daughter's deep love and admiration for her father who is no more. Whenever Meena
Alexander feels bewildered and dislocated in her postcolonial world of experience, she finds "great solace in the lucid and frank centrality of her
father's vision of life"( Krishnakumari 126). Her father believed in leading an orderly life, and in keeping one's emotions under firm control. Concrete
and precise descriptions can be seen in Alexander's poems, such as when she describes the "red fabric melting into metal teeth" while her mother sews
a tear in her child's shirt, in the poem "Reading Rumi as the Phone Rings"(17). In this poem the thirteenth–century Sufi poet Rumi could be heard on
the phone line sharing out his words of wisdom: "The way of love/ is not a subtle argument, / Rumi sang. The door/ there is

Electronic Medical Records In Myanmar
Introduction Background of the Study Poor health information system has been a major challenge in healthcare delivery in many developing countries
due to limited financial resources. Health information technology provides to collect, organize and present medical information in a system that will
make it useful to all healthcare professionals (Robert E Hoyt, 2014). Electronic medical records (EMR) are a vital and basic part of the
implementation of information technology in the healthcare industry. EMR systems have gained wide traction in the recent years in many countries
worldwide as a good solution for them to overcome most of their problems in healthcare delivery services. While most hospitals and clinics in
developed countries have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among many potential advantages that EMR system bring, most tangible benefit is that changing to EMR system can help in generating unique
patient identification and maintaining all information of a specific patient within a record under one unique ID (Joaquin A. Blaya, 2010). One of the
biggest issues that used to happen in many developing hospitals is that patients receive a new serial number and new record each time they attend the
hospital. The result of multiple encounters with different healthcare providers may lead to fragmentation of the patient's record. Having a unique ID
will prevent disintegration of medical record of each patient so that medical records can become more complete and reliable (Abdulai, 2009). From
operating EMR system, unnecessary overloaded workforce of paper chart reviews can be reduced, and retrieving patient data, lab or x–ray results can
be much easier (Robert E Hoyt, 2014) (Dr. Jitendranath Mungara, 2017). Another less noticeable benefit of EMR in long term use is its potential ability
to reduce healthcare costs and improve quality of healthcare by reducing duplication of investigations and adverse drug events (Nolwazi Candice
Sikhondze, 2016). EMR system thus facilitates productivity and efficiency through increased coordination of

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol...
Analysis of "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" In the essay, "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" written by Jonathan Kozol and
originally published in the book, "Illiterate America", is a bundle of examples of how people who are illiterate live every day. It showcases the
hardships they go through, and how much of a problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate, and how many
become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol
heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the
strategies of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few
times in this essay. The main bulk of it is towards the beginning, when Kozol states a few statistics about illiterate citizens in the United States, "The
number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast of the winner in the 1980 presidential contest...So long as 60 million people are
denied significant participation, the government is neither of, not for, nor by, the people" (2). Kozol's main argument is how the current status of
illiterate Americans is a huge problem that we need to address, and the previous quote from the text was his way of using logos to get us to think about

Renewable Energy
Topic
Canada should subsidize renewable energy options such as wind and solar power in order to increase the share of renewables in Canada's energy
balance.
Introduction Canada government subsidizes a number of socially beneficial services, including health care, education and energy services. Subsidies to
the energy sector mainly are for oil and gas production, however, they are not all socially beneficial[figure 1]. In fact, they have negative impact for the
environment and hinder developments of environmentally friendly alternative energy options. Indeed, Canada's implementation of the Kyoto Protocol
is seriously threatened by continued government support for oil and gas production, a sector with large and rapidly ... Show more content on

However, it can also be problematic because it confuses an end (goods and services valued by consumers) with a means (labour)[3]. Increase in
energy price will cause price distortion and result of inefficient production in the market, it tend to reduce consumers and producers' net benefit, and it
lead a higher production cost to domestic goods, which will become more costly to compete in the world market.
Policy Implication In case to shift Canada's energy balance toward renewable energy without externalities, we need government's actions. One possible
way is to raise tax on the amount of carbon emitted to the atmosphere. If taxes are appropriately calculated, they can help raise the marginal costs of
producers of non–renewable energy to equal the social and environmental costs that their activities create. Countries such as Norway, Sweden,
Denmark, the United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands have already adopted carbon taxes[3]. Sweden, for example, raises US$1
billion per year from its carbon tax and approximately US$10 billion per year in energy taxes, some of which is part of a "tax shift" that goes to help
develop renewable energy[3]. Paul Anderson, the CEO of a major carbon–dioxide emitting power company in US, he said "reducing greenhouse gases

Essay about Child Brides in India

Child Brides in India In many societies, marriage is a celebrated institution commemorating the union between two consenting adults and the beginning
of their lives together. However, this experience and celebration is different for the millions of girls around the world who are forced to wed while
still children, some not even yet teenagers. Child marriage is a marriage that occurs between two people where one or two of the partners is under 18.
While boys are also married under the age of 18, girls far outnumber boys in child marriages. It is usually forced and occurs often to girls who are ages
12 to16 years old[2]. The husband is also often several years older than his wife, sometimes even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This reaction is what one would expect at a funeral not at a birth.
Cultural and socioeconomic factors that reinforce child marriage differ from region to region. Where one lives within a country may strongly
influence whether or not she will marry early. In India the highest rates of child marriage is concentrated in five states: Madhya Pradesh at 73%,
Andhra Pradesh at 71%, Rajasthan at 68%, Bihar at 67 % and Uttar Pradesh at 64%. The median age of marriage in India is 16.4 years according to
the National Family Health Survey. [8]It also found that 65% of girls are married by the time they are 18. There are many reasons why child
marriage occurs but they can be put into two general categories. The first one is based on social norms, customs and religion. Virginity in India is
very important. If one is raped, it is hard for her to be married. "As Vatsayyana said a couple millennia ago that a virgin bride is important, even if
people don't talk about it openly".[1] Therefore, the younger the bride the more likely it is that she'll be a virgin and so marrying off the daughter
as young as possible, the faster the end of the parent's responsibility to keep her a virgin. The second category as to why girls are married off so
young, is poverty. Education can be a solution to child marriage, however it is too expensive and so families do not see it as necessary if they will
marry their daughter into another family. In India, it is tradition for a woman to leave her

Child Labour is a pan–India social evil which has shocked the conscience of the people across the globe. India of our vision would not be a reality if

age, sex, educational level, work status, and housing accommodation. Ayalew (1982) found that working children are less sick than others because
employers favour the healthy ones. However, many children often only work for a relatively short time before being unemployed, often for health
reasons. There is evidence that children especially in times of life such as puberty, are susceptible to illness. National Sample Survey Organisation
(1988) on employment and unemployment found that child workers belong to the age group of 5–14 years only. It further analysed that child work is
the participation in any economically productive activity. Such participation may be physical or mental in nature. Gangrade et.al. (1989) observed that
it is not a present day feature only that children are taking part in economic activities. To a greater or lesser extent, children in every type of human

Women 's Traditional Cultural Values Of Gender Roles
Abstract
Human trafficking is a heinous crime and a horribly profitable business which affects hundreds of millions of people every year worldwide. In
Nepal, women and girls are more often trafficked than men, either within the country or to brothels in India. They make easy prey because of the
poor economic status of many Nepalese citizens and the fact that most women and girls in Nepal do not have education and are completely illiterate.
Traffickers are able to abduct them from their lives and trap them, threatening to hurt them or their loved ones if they attempt to escape or disobey.
At the brothels, they will contract disease, get raped, and be forced to work tirelessly for fear of facing the wrath of their abductors. In this essay, a
critical analysis will be conducted on Nepal's traditional cultural values of gender roles. In this patriarchal society, favoring men over women may not
just put women at a socioeconomic advantage, it could put women at an alarmingly high risk of being sold into prostitution.

alarming rates of illiteracy in the U.S. are corroding the fundamentals of democracy, reinforcing the structures of inequality that created the problem to

first–person accounts. Kozol's purpose is to not simply illustrate the various personal tragedies that people with underdeveloped reading skills face, but
to tell his audience that such tragedies when you add them up constitute a threat to the basic values that maintain the nation as a whole. Kozol

them being how it affects democracy. Democracy is a type of government where power, that involves human rights and values, is held by the people.

Kozol argues that, "The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast for the winner in the 1980 presidential contest. Even if
one third of all illiterates could vote in their self–interest, Ronald Reagan would not likely have been chosen president"(Kozol 149). When illiterate
people choose a political figure to represent their views they do not know they are affecting themselves, as well as everyone else in the united states.
Their vote impacts the United States because it determines who will make the important decisions, and create new policies. To be represented in what
goes on in the surrounding community is a crucial aspect in democracy for illiterate people.
Kozol explains that as an illiterate, the right to equality is likely to be violated, even if the Declaration of Independence states that all men are equal.
Many illiterates face struggles with inequality, including an illiterate student who explains that, "I came out of school. I was sixteen. They had their
meetings. The directors meet. They said that I was wasting their school paper. I was wasting pencils" (Kozol 155). A school's purpose is to assist their
students to learn, and to become knowledgeable. Rather, they shun those without literacy, and make them feel inferior and undeserving. This shows that

Poverty and lack of education perpetuate the cycle

  • 1. Poverty 19.3 Poverty A large section of the Indian society is suffering from poverty. Poverty is a phenomenonSocial Problem :: 201 which is objective as well a subjective. Objectively poverty implies a dehumanizing condition in which people are unable to look after the basic needs. Subjectively poverty stands for perceived deprivation. As such it is relative and any body can feel poor by comparing himself as herself with a rich person. Poor people lack the necessary resources and capacity to satisfy basic needs like food, shelter, health and education. They live under difficult conditions which are not conducive for development of their human potential. As you have learned earlier in the lesson 10 and 11 that for healthy human development... Such people have to depend on others for various things and are exploited in various ways. For example the poor rural people are asked to put their thumb impression of various legal documents and are subjected to exploitations and legal hassles. Keeping these negative consequences in view the government is trying to universalize primary education. The lack of reading and writing skills makes a person incapable of availing the various opportunities to help themselves. Each and every educated person, therefore, is expected to contribute to the literacy mission and making it a success. IMPACT OF MODERNIZATION ON INDIAN SOCIETY Indian society is very old and surviving even after many ups and down and social issues. This article involves a brief about the Indian society and impact of the social process of modernization and westernization on it. How the Indian society has implemented these both processes and to what extent. Society is a platform that gives a shape to the people's livings, demands, aspirations, needs and all kinds of growths. When numerous people having diverse mindsets, aspirations and demands yet live together for a common cause is what we understand by the society. A society may either include people of ... • 2. Applying A Gender Based Violence Approach Essay Applying a gender–based violence approach, this paper will explore life realities for a Moroccan women's center serving women from 18 to 70 years of age, mothers, educated or not, living in a rural and urban environment and, for too many of them, their horrific predicaments. Primary research methods will integrate "participant observation and semi–structured interviews" (DeWalt and DeWalt 2002) with females victims of gender based violence (GBV) and the center staff members. This study aspires to determine what aspects lead Moroccan women to seek assistance, categories of assistance available, challenges Moroccan women face and future opportunities for recognition and socio–legal support. Results denote a lack of social support to women victim of violence, lack of social and economic support for the center we will rest our research on, degraded service capacity, and the practice of deceit in interactions between women and staff ingrained in a cultural notions of shame. Future prospects for program development and sustainability will also be discussed. This ethnographic proposition we will submit hopes to promote a richer understanding of gender based violence in local contexts through the investigation of women victims' experiences of gender–based violence in Moroccan society and how these dramatic encounters impact the reality and capabilities of social service and legal provision. • 3. Electronic Waste: A Growing International Problem Background: Electronic waste is a growing international problem that is affecting millions of people in developing countries. The United States is the biggest culprit exporting old, obsolete, and broken electronics to developing countries. One problem with the electronic recycling program in the United States is often, when people drop off their old electronics to companies for recycling, many companies find it more cost effective to transport the waste for money, sending it to third world countries where labor is cheap, and where a profit can be made for both the companies and individuals in developing countries. Developing nations such as China, India, and Ghana hold the largest digital dumping grounds in the world. Hundreds of millions of tons of electronics are shipped and processed in homes, backyards, and large open fields. In her article, Environmental policy analysis, Luther, states Proliferation of and increasingly rapid technological advances in electronics mean that the volume of e–waste generated in the United States is large and growing. Data regarding electronic products sold, stored, recycled, and disposed of are limited. However, in 2008, EPA completed a study that attempted to gather more current data. According to that study, in 2007, of the 2.25 million tons of televisions, cell phones and computer products ready for end–of–life (EOL) management, 18% (414,000 tons) were collected for recycling and 82% (1.84 million tons) were disposed of, primarily in ... • 4. Unit 2 Research Paper The first thing to look at that can explain the difference in productivity is the productivity of the individual employees i.e. labor. It might be that the employees on factory 1 are less literate than employees on Factory 2. Illiteracy is one of the major impediment to productivity and having the same number of employees does not guarantee the same level of productivity especially if the one lack basic education. The second factor might be that Factory 2 has had more capital investment than Factory 1. The capital investment might be in a form of new equipment and technology and yet this alone does not guarantee improved productivity. There needs to be continual support and improvement throughout the factory and this might be happening in factory 2. The capital investment of Factory 2 is more important in a sense that you still need to train employees on the new equipment and being illiterate is major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diamond have always been held as a symbol of wealth is many different societies throughout history and the appeal has not evaporated for over thousands of years. Industrial use of diamonds Diamonds is the hardest known natural material in the world. The hardness of this mineral as well as their thermal conductivity is the main reason it has found many industrial uses. A total of 80% of mined diamond are unsuitable for use as gemstones and are used for industrial purposes. • 5. Analysis Of The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By... The essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" written by Jonathan Kozol and published in Readings for Writers in 2013, conveyed an extremely important message throughout. Illiterate American's struggle with simple daily tasks which many of us take for granted. The amount of illiterate people in our society is much higher than it should be. According to the essay, there are millions of Americans who fail to excel in the ability to read and write. Such a large number of people have a problem with this that evidence has shown that if those people were able to read and write and could consciously make a decision to vote for the president of the United States, there would likely have been a different outcome to the 1980 presidential election. ... • 6. Literature Review Of Literature On Human Trafficking Introduction Human trafficking "shall mean the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs" (Protocol To Prevent, 2). Currently there are approximately 21 million people being trafficked globally including 1.5 million in the United States. The United Nations in the year 2000 created the Palermo Protocol to help fight human trafficking. This protocol sets up the policies that should be implemented by each country regarding the laws and prevention, as well as, rehabilitation and restitution of victims. Despite the protocol, the number of convictions globally between 2005 and 2012 averaged less than 4,000 (Infographic, 2017). Theory Hypothesis I expect to find a significant relationship between people living in abject poverty (X) and risk of human trafficking(Y). • 7. School Vouchers are the Solution Essay We, as human beings, irrespective of our backgrounds, traditions and cultures, believe in certain fundamental ideals. We want all our children to have access to a good, overall education regardless of family income; we want to make sure that they are prepared for times to come; we want them to be responsible adults; and expect that these qualities are fostered in them through learning in their familial environments, friend circles and most importantly through the institution called school. The growing idea has been that these ideals may only be achieved through a universal centrally planned system of tax–funded schools, commonly known as "public schools". People tend to misunderstand the ideals of public schooling and confuse them for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They lack the very vital skills that employers find necessary, for instance, they have trouble even reading the dosage on an aspirin bottle (2). To add to that, "32 to 36 percent of Americans with no income source and 34 to 44 percent welfare recipients struggle to perform most basic reading, writing and quantitative tasks"(2). Thus, it is clear that the present system is unable to grant the education that it has always promised and much of the money utilized in bringing about improvement is wasted. This is where, I feel, the market–system, with its abundant, competitive suppliers of education can bring about a change, where modern tuition vouchers will take care of any financial assistance crucial to keeping the system going. School vouchers are a form of scholarship, which transmits the flow of funding that is devoted to education and directs it to consumers rather than to school districts. This gives families the freedom to choose any school and thus send their children to institutions they feel are best suited to their children's needs. There are government funded vouchers, as well as that made available by private institutions. I feel that one good way would be to do it through gigantic corporations, who have the capital and may find it to be a useful way of publicizing their names. What I admire about the market system is that there is an inherent personal benefit involved in every action by everyone who plays a part in the action: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Rhetorical Rationale Rhetorical Rationale In this rhetorical rationale on English 1010, my purpose is to professionally present a rhetorical analysis of this review. Since day one of my English 1010 class, I have learned a lot about rhetoric, it has been long time since I was in school, I didn't know what ethos, logos or pathos meant. And that when you read an essay, an article, a book, newspaper, etc, they all have a purpose and an audience. For me it is really hard to understand when I read and write something because the minute I finish reading it, I forget what was all about. With all I have learned in this class now I can concentrate and focus more, I'm able to identify the parts of a rhetorical triangle, I know how to write a summary and rhetorical analysis. ... The purpose behind this essay is to persuade readers to push from the middle class–rich to a poor American citizen to have the same opportunities. In the beginning of the essay Jill Lepore develops Logos of the argument. An example of This is "Income inequality is greater in the United States than any other democracy in the developed world. Between 1975 and 1985, when the Gini index for U.S households rose from .397 to .419 as calculated by the U.S. Census Bureau, the Gini indices of United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Sweden, and Finland ranged roughly between .200 and .300, according to national data analyzed by Andrea Brandolini and Timothy Smeeding", (page 1) this rhetorical strategy is effective because Ms. Lepore provides statistics and years, which it shows that the author has put research hours into the argument. The next strategy Jill Lepore applies is Pathos, telling stories of those who are suffering inequality. "Everyone caring about every else's kids–that had made it possible for Don and Libby to climb out of poverty in the nineteen fifties and the nineteen sixties, "Nobody gave a shit" David says", "The American dream is in crisis, Putnam argues, because Americans used to care about other people's kids and now they care about their own kids. • 11. Equilibrium And Education : The Modern Day American Society Equilibrium in Education Throughout American history, there has been waves of different economic standpoints. From the thriving economy in the early 1900s, to the infamous downfall of the stock market that lead to the Great Depression in the 1930s. America has always faced different obstacles that has shaped the modern day American society. Poverty levels have increased rapidly which sparked interest in some organizations to create a campaign called "Do Something", which advocates improving American lives through better education and higher quality of living. One statistic given was that, "In 2011, nearly 46.2 million Americans were living in poverty" (11 Facts). With many occupations requiring some type of post–secondary education. How can the quality of life be improved if a myriad of people are facing such high levels of poverty and cannot afford the cost of that higher education? Obstacles in obtaining an education beyond high school come from the prejudice in education by making it affordable to those with the ability to pay the out of pocket costs. Social inequality has kept people who reside in the lower income classes from progressing through a higher education . It is prevalent that in American history, that those who are privileged white men can obtain a higher education than one who is a minority. Post–secondary education must be made accessible to all in order to ensure that everyone has equal access to a higher quality of life. Post secondary education can be ... • 12. How Is Unemployment Linked With Poverty Yuvraj Suri– Employment How has Unemployment been linked with poverty in past few years? Unemployment lies at the core of poverty. For the poor, labor is often the only asset they can use to improve their well–being. Hence the creation of productive employment opportunities is essential for reducing poverty and it is crucial to provide decent jobs that secure income for the poor. As the rate of unemployment increases the poverty would also increase as the people's wants would increase. GLOBAL PRESPECTIVES. No Education or illiteracy. This is a simple and best logic. If a person is educated there is only a minor chance for him to be unemployed. But in many poor countries people have to suffer being unemployed. That is why people in many countries have started projects to stop this poverty. No education means unemployment and unemployment means poverty. This is a cycle that the poor people go through. Economic Inflation. Inflation is one of the oldest causes of unemployment. The economy faces a steep rise in prices as compared to other economies of the world. This leads to failure in exports as companies are not able to compete with others due to rise in price. Incomes suffer, people 's savings fall and gradually companies start firing people, being unable to pay them on due time. Thus, the rate of unemployment increases. • 13. Vulnerability And Risk Of Poor Health INTRODUCTION Everyone is potentially vulnerable at some point over the extent of one's lifetime. More specifically, everyone is potentially at risk of poor physical, psychological, or social health. The word vulnerable is defined by the Merrian–Webster's Dictionary as "capable of being physically wounded" or "open to attack or damage". Commonly, the word vulnerability indicates one's susceptibility to health problems, harm or neglect. Some however, maybe more or less susceptible or at risk of poor health at different times in their lives, while certain individuals and communities are more likely to be at risk than others at any given point in time (Aday, 1994). Thus, vulnerable populations may be defined as social groups with an increased susceptibility to adverse health outcomes (Flaskerud & Winslow, 1998). A fundamental component to the definition of vulnerability is the concept of risk, or the relative probability that an individual may become ill within a given period of time (Aday, 1994). Community and individual characteristics are risk factors predictive of the incidence of vulnerability. Risk factors, for example smoking or lead exposure, are attributes that are related to increases in the probability of occurrence of health–related outcomes (Aday, 1998). Evidence of differences in vulnerability or increased risk, which lead to negative health outcomes include: premature mortality, comparative morbidity, decreased functional and mental status, decreased ability to ... • 16. Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health– education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal–investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive education expenditure as 'consumption' and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as 'welfare' but must be treated as 'capital formation'. Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards reducing discrimination in schooling, improving ... NHS is funded through general taxation and its current budget is around ВЈ110 billion. It is facing unprecedented and increasing pressures that threaten to overwhelm its capacity. However, many of them are exceptionally expensive. NICE is responsible for deciding whether new treatments are cost effective and whether they should be funded by the NHS. Independent committee reviews the evidence for efficacy and then looks at cost effective (specifically cost–utility) analysis before making their recommendation. This seeks to establish whether differences in expected costs between options can be justified in terms of changes in expected health effects. Health effects should be expressed in terms of QALYs. • 18. The Human Development Plan of Indonesia Barro (1996) argues that there is a connection between the health levels of a country and its economy. The connection is two–way, forming a feedback loop. Improved health outcomes allow people to be more productive. More productive people earn more, and are therefore able to pay for better health care, and this becomes a cycle in society. Thus, societies with higher levels ofhealth care have healthier and therefore more productive workers. Indonesia does not score well on health care in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) human development index, with a life expectancy at birth of 69.4 years. Public expenditure on health is just 1.2% of GDP, meaning that there is little contribution to health care, and most Indonesians rely on cash payments or private insurance for whatever health care they receive. The country has a plan to offer coverage to 100% of its people by 2014. There are doubts about whether this can be implemented due to the cost and complexity of the project. There are significant gaps between health care in major cities and health care in rural areas and on remote islands (Franken, 2011). A company operating in Indonesia is likely going to need to supply supplemental coverage to most employees. The national plan, when implemented, will only cover visits to Class III hospitals. Managerial workers in particular will want insurance provided that would give the access to better hospitals. High–quality private hospitals are available for executives and ... Kozol used a few strong points to prove his point. There is so much to look into when choosing your president, more than what you hear your candidate say on television. While it shouldn't be an issue to look into a read on paper, online, everything you need to know about your candidate, for millions of people it is. Mr. Kozol stated that in 1980 presidential election, 16 million illiterate citizens cast their vote. If they were literate, perhaps the outcome would have been different. The goal is to provide the storytellers with flexibility and choice to narrate the story in a way that is most comfortable to them. According to Riessman (1993), there are five steps to conducting and analyzing narratives: Attending. This deals with the notion of how a storyteller reflects, remembers, and recollects the "primary experience". It is important to pay attention to how a storyteller makes sense of an experience, the context of the experience itself, and his/her selectivity of the experience. Telling. The "performance of a personal narrative". A storyteller sequences and orders the events of the experience in a particular way. Meaning is constructed by the storyteller about his/her experience at this level. The narrative method allows for flexibility in how the story is communicated. While oral tradition is the oldest form, other expressions such as biography, story, novel, essay or even a drawing could communicate how people interpret a phenomenon. Transcribing. Crimes that are committed in the virtual realm encompass a wide category. Thanks to the easy availability and increasing dependence on technology, cybercrimes are a fast–growing criminal undertaking that is limitless in its potential. With the fast–pace advancements in technology, cybercriminals are evolving their methods faster than law enforcement can advance theirs making it difficult to incriminate them. In addition, the lack of a physical barrier, as well as the lack of an individual or corporation knowing they are victims, makes it difficult to trace the criminals because no barrier is preventing attacks from occurring, or isolating it to a local area, and because attacks do not cause physical or mental harm. However, with research and resources, law enforcement has identified a common medium a cybercriminal uses to commit crimes: crimeware, commonly known as computer viruses. When discussing cybercrime, common terms that come to mind are viruses, hacking and online identity theft. All these three terms share a common characteristic: they all require software. Hackers use software to plant viruses to steal information. Crimeware "is a subclass of [malware]" (Emigh, 2006, p. 246) and is defined as a software running without the consent of a victim for nefarious purposes. Before writing essays of the former diction, I must admit that I did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical triangle. The assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made in my writing with an academic tone. Among many potential advantages that EMR system bring, most tangible benefit is that changing to EMR system can help in generating unique patient identification and maintaining all information of a specific patient within a record under one unique ID (Joaquin A. Blaya, 2010). One of the biggest issues that used to happen in many developing hospitals is that patients receive a new serial number and new record each time they attend the hospital. The result of multiple encounters with different healthcare providers may lead to fragmentation of the patient's record. Having a unique ID will prevent disintegration of medical record of each patient so that medical records can become more complete and reliable (Abdulai, 2009). Analysis of "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" In the essay, "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society" written by Jonathan Kozol and originally published in the book, "Illiterate America", is a bundle of examples of how people who are illiterate live every day. It showcases the hardships they go through, and how much of a problem it is. He had quotes from various interviews with people who are illiterate, and how many become distrustful of people trying to explain what the written document or form says, for they can never know if they are telling the truth. Kozol heavily uses rhetorical strategies, mostly pathos related, to showcase these struggles and make us take notice of this problem. Overall, he uses the strategies of logos, ethos, and pathos to push his point across. Logos is the strategy of showing the logic behind the argument, and it is used a few times in this essay. The main bulk of it is towards the beginning, when Kozol states a few statistics about illiterate citizens in the United States, "The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast of the winner in the 1980 presidential contest...So long as 60 million people are denied significant participation, the government is neither of, not for, nor by, the people" (2). Increase in energy price will cause price distortion and result of inefficient production in the market, it tend to reduce consumers and producers' net benefit, and it lead a higher production cost to domestic goods, which will become more costly to compete in the world market. Policy Implication In case to shift Canada's energy balance toward renewable energy without externalities, we need government's actions. One possible way is to raise tax on the amount of carbon emitted to the atmosphere. If taxes are appropriately calculated, they can help raise the marginal costs of producers of non–renewable energy to equal the social and environmental costs that their activities create. Countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Finland, Switzerland and the Netherlands have already adopted carbon taxes[3]. Sweden, for example, raises US$1 billion per year from its carbon tax and approximately US$10 billion per year in energy taxes, some of which is part of a "tax shift" that goes to help develop renewable energy[3]. • 36. Essay about Child Brides in India Shaymaa Nagud Sociology 364 12/08/11 Child Brides in India In many societies, marriage is a celebrated institution commemorating the union between two consenting adults and the beginning of their lives together. However, this experience and celebration is different for the millions of girls around the world who are forced to wed while still children, some not even yet teenagers. Child marriage is a marriage that occurs between two people where one or two of the partners is under 18. While boys are also married under the age of 18, girls far outnumber boys in child marriages. It is usually forced and occurs often to girls who are ages 12 to16 years old[2]. The husband is also often several years older than his wife, sometimes even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reaction is what one would expect at a funeral not at a birth. Cultural and socioeconomic factors that reinforce child marriage differ from region to region. Where one lives within a country may strongly influence whether or not she will marry early. In India the highest rates of child marriage is concentrated in five states: Madhya Pradesh at 73%, Andhra Pradesh at 71%, Rajasthan at 68%, Bihar at 67 % and Uttar Pradesh at 64%. The median age of marriage in India is 16.4 years according to the National Family Health Survey. [8]It also found that 65% of girls are married by the time they are 18. There are many reasons why child marriage occurs but they can be put into two general categories. The first one is based on social norms, customs and religion. Virginity in India is very important. If one is raped, it is hard for her to be married. "As Vatsayyana said a couple millennia ago that a virgin bride is important, even if people don't talk about it openly".[1] Therefore, the younger the bride the more likely it is that she'll be a virgin and so marrying off the daughter as young as possible, the faster the end of the parent's responsibility to keep her a virgin. The second category as to why girls are married off so young, is poverty. Education can be a solution to child marriage, however it is too expensive and so families do not see it as necessary if they will marry their daughter into another family. In India, it is tradition for a woman to leave her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

India of our vision would not be a reality if her children are not properly nurtured and educated. Their exploitation and abuse by profit makers for their personal gain need to be checked. Because of utter poverty, lack of educational opportunities and precarious socio–economic circumstances, parents are forced to send their kids for wage work. In this way, these children form the category of child labour. This survey research deals with exploration of the working children and their use in unorganized sector of Agra and as a source of income to their families and households. It examines the main characteristics of working children such as age, sex, educational level, work status, and housing accommodation. Ayalew (1982) found that working children are less sick than others because employers favour the healthy ones. However, many children often only work for a relatively short time before being unemployed, often for health reasons. There is evidence that children especially in times of life such as puberty, are susceptible to illness. National Sample Survey Organisation (1988) on employment and unemployment found that child workers belong to the age group of 5–14 years only. It further analysed that child work is the participation in any economically productive activity. Such participation may be physical or mental in nature. Gangrade et.al. (1989) observed that it is not a present day feature only that children are taking part in economic activities. To a greater or lesser extent, children in every type of human society ... • 38. Women 's Traditional Cultural Values Of Gender Roles Abstract Human trafficking is a heinous crime and a horribly profitable business which affects hundreds of millions of people every year worldwide. In Nepal, women and girls are more often trafficked than men, either within the country or to brothels in India. They make easy prey because of the poor economic status of many Nepalese citizens and the fact that most women and girls in Nepal do not have education and are completely illiterate. Traffickers are able to abduct them from their lives and trap them, threatening to hurt them or their loved ones if they attempt to escape or disobey. At the brothels, they will contract disease, get raped, and be forced to work tirelessly for fear of facing the wrath of their abductors. In this essay, a critical analysis will be conducted on Nepal's traditional cultural values of gender roles. In this patriarchal society, favoring men over women may not just put women at a socioeconomic advantage, it could put women at an alarmingly high risk of being sold into prostitution. • 39. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society Rhetorical Analysis Dylan WheelerDr. Woo English 162 6 June 2015 Writer Jonathan Kozol, in the essay "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society," suggests that the alarming rates of illiteracy in the U.S. are corroding the fundamentals of democracy, reinforcing the structures of inequality that created the problem to begin with. His argument draws on a range of evidence and support from multiple sources such as philosophers and historical figures, anecdotes, and first–person accounts. Kozol's purpose is to not simply illustrate the various personal tragedies that people with underdeveloped reading skills face, but to tell his audience that such tragedies when you add them up constitute a threat to the basic values that maintain the nation as a whole. • 40. Jonathan Kozol The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society... Envision being limited in a world full of opportunities and advantages due to illiteracy. In this society, it is unfortunate that there are individuals who are illiterate, which ultimately affects their democratic lives. Many other citizens do not face this issue, and may not recognize the disadvantages that illiterates face. In Jonathan Kozol's text, "The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society," he discusses the various issues concerned with illiteracy, one of them being how it affects democracy. Democracy is a type of government where power, that involves human rights and values, is held by the people. According to Kozol's text, illiteracy undermines democracy in the United States because people are oblivious of their right to equality, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kozol argues that, "The number of illiterate adults exceeds by 16 million the entire vote cast for the winner in the 1980 presidential contest. Even if one third of all illiterates could vote in their self–interest, Ronald Reagan would not likely have been chosen president"(Kozol 149). When illiterate people choose a political figure to represent their views they do not know they are affecting themselves, as well as everyone else in the united states. Their vote impacts the United States because it determines who will make the important decisions, and create new policies. To be represented in what goes on in the surrounding community is a crucial aspect in democracy for illiterate people. Kozol explains that as an illiterate, the right to equality is likely to be violated, even if the Declaration of Independence states that all men are equal. Many illiterates face struggles with inequality, including an illiterate student who explains that, "I came out of school. I was sixteen. They had their meetings. The directors meet. They said that I was wasting their school paper. I was wasting pencils" (Kozol 155). A school's purpose is to assist their students to learn, and to become knowledgeable. Rather, they shun those without literacy, and make them feel inferior and undeserving. This shows that illiterates are not given chances to improve and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
