The students organized a disco to raise funds for USAID to buy water wells in Angola. They created a plan that included getting permission, making a playlist, advertising through posters and a blog, and visiting classes. The disco was a success, raising over $140 which was more than expected and bringing awareness to the need for clean water access in Angola.
2. We had the disco to help USAID buy
water wells.
How is this connected to our unit of
inquiry?
We are studying how organization
affects children’s rights.
If we organize ourselves to raise
funds then more people will have
access to the right to nutrition and
health.
It is impossible to experience good
health and nutrition without water.
3. 1. We brainstormed ideas.
2. We made a plan.
Our plan included things like:
Bringing equipment:
• Getting permission from Miss
Caroline.
• Creating a play list consisting of
appropriate songs which make
people want to dance.
• Advertising.
• Advertising involved creating
posters, making a blog
advertisement and visiting classes
to spread the word.
4. We have raised more than
14,000 KWZ!
More people at LIS are
aware that people in
Angola need our help, the
governments help and
USAID’s help to have
access to water.
Yanessa won the
dance off!
5. We thought that the party was really
successful because a lot of people
came and had fun, we raised more
than 140 US dollars. This was
more than expected.
It was also a success because people
are now aware that the people
who they share this country with
need access to water.
