FEATURES ANALYSIS OF MARGARET THATCHER'S SPEECH TO 1987 CONSERVATIVE
PARTY CONFERENCE IN BLACKPOOL
Margaret Thatcher employs metaphor in her address to 1987 Blackpool Conservative Party
Conference as a rhetorical strategy in combination with practical linguistic features which creates a
powerful interplay building up persuasive political communication. Another type of rhetorical
strategy favoured by the political leader in her speech is the use of memorable phrases that
encapsulate arguments, communicate assertiveness and simplicity. ' Children who need to count and
multiply are learning anti–racist mathematics.' ( line 44) ' Children who need to be able to express
themselves in clear English are being taught political slogans.' ( line 45) ' Children who need to be
taught to respect traditional moral values are being taught that they have an inalienable right to be
gay.' (line 46) ' Children who need encouragement.................' (line 47) ' They didn't wonder: Are we
uprooting whole communities' (line69) ' They didn't ask: Can children still play safely in the
street?'(line70) ' They didn't consider any of these

Israel's Expansion Of Israel
Since the end of the Holocaust in the mid 1940's, the Jewish population has been seeking a means of
escape from the sadly ever present anti–semitic world. When Zionism emerged as a new sect of
Judaism, one that promised a communal effort to return to Jerusalem and the promised land of
Abraham's covenant, the Jewish world became ecstatic with the hope of ending their constant
displacement. However, as the land of Israel was settled and its expansion prospered, the greed and
lust of the Israeli politicians pushed the borders of Israel into the already diminishing territory of
Palestine. As time passes it becomes more and more clear that the Israeli expansion into Palestine is
unjust, and lacks a coherent justification for their occupation. ... Show more content on

So much so, that several plans have been attempted to bring peace into the war–torn Middle East.
Peace talks go back as far as 1969, following the devastation of the War of 1969. Resolution 242
forced Israeli troops to withdraw from any occupied territory in exchange for recognition of Israel as
an independent state and a team effort to assist in the refugee problem. Neither party actively
followed the actions of a ceasefire until 1978, when an official peace treaty was formed. Following
the assistance of President Jimmy Carter in the peace treaty of 1979, the Israeli–Palestinian broke
out again and the conflict was not resolved again until 1991, where another ceasefire was
established. Since then, a total of 8 conferences had been held to create peace. Yet the civil unrest
furthered by the constant development of Israeli settlements and checkpoints, further and further
into Palestine. Israel has promised time and time again to withdraw from Palestine and has actively
attended numerous conferences for peace, while ignoring the world's cry for

Capitalism And Climate Change
Regardless of the people who do and do not believe in global warming, climate change is a pressing
issue that has been accepted scientifically and politically for the past few decades. Although
seemingly insignificant, a global temperature increase of 2°C is enough for worldwide
pandemonium. To mitigate the effects of greenhouse gases that are trapping heat in the Earth's
atmosphere, nation leaders have gathered to settle and promise a fixed reduction in their country's
carbon emissions; the target emission level will cause an increase of only 1.5°C. Prominent
examples include the Kyoto Protocol and Copenhagen Accord, with the most recent being the Paris
Agreement. Nevertheless, disappointing carbon emission results from the Kyoto Protocol ... Show

Williams agrees with my point because he believes newly elected world leaders would be "more
responsible and account to ordinary people" (The Real News Network). Take India for example:
their political climate is separated into cooperative internationalists and non–cooperative
nationalists, the latter being more insistent that climate change is not real (qtd. in Clemenco 17).
These climate change deniers are hindering the efforts of the government by rejecting any domestic
efforts to reduce emissions. In America, Trump withdrew from the Paris pact for several reasons: he
has personal beliefs that climate change is a Chinese hoax and thinks coal is a clean source of
energy. The prominence of these views is hurting the climate change movement, and it must be
eliminated first for the Paris Agreement to be

Catholic Religious Beliefs
The Catholic Church's current pope, Pope Francis once said, "A good Catholic meddles in politics,
offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can
offer to those who govern? Prayer!" Catholics are approximately half of the number of Christians,
reaching more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the largest religions in the
world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million (Roman Catholic
Church, 2017). The Catholic Church's basic beliefs influence their demographics, party affiliation,
stances on different political issues, and involvement in American politics.
I attended a service at The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service,
politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a
message to the congregation he said, "love unconditionally, without limits." Additionally, he also
said, "peace, liberty, and justice for all." I think these quotes are helpful in understanding the
Catholic Church's ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current issues including support
for the military, the Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural disasters. Besides these few
observations, the cathedral did express any straightforward political statements.
One of the best ways to understand a religion's political views is to understand their basic beliefs
and what they feel to be good and moral. The

Of Paul Monette's 'Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir'
Chris Shea

Professor Aimee Pozorski
04/26/17
The 1980s were a historic decade in the United States. While the American economy may have been
doing relatively well at this point, this decade actually served as a turbulent one in American society.
This tension was triggered by the discovery of the AIDS virus in 1981. Soon it rapidly spread all
over America and the world, leaving a trail of death and despair in its wake. One such victim of this
tragic disease is Paul Monette, a gay man who documents the AIDS virus in his 1988 memoir
Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir. From a surface reading, one would think that this is all the
memoir has to offer: a simple documentation of the AIDS virus as it affects his partner Roger.
However, a historic closer reading of this memoir ultimately reveals a hidden, much deeper
disconnect Paul has, one involving the religious aspect of the AIDS crisis. When read in this regard,
one may become able to see how this disconnect affects Paul and Roger and further complicates the
AIDS crisis.
In order to discover the disconnect going on in the U.S. Paul Monette deals with as his partner
suffers and ultimately dies from AIDS, one must first discover what the two sides of this disconnect
are. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Monette talks about it in a large paragraph about midway through the memoir. "The rumors were
appalling. It was said that everyone appointed by the Reagan administration...hate, it appeared, was
the only public health tool available." (Monette 166). This is where Monette finally opens up about
the homophobia felt by conservative Christians and the government in general. He says that a lot of
people who Reagan appointed in major health positions were either Mormons or Fundamentalists,
historically right–wing 'Bible–thumping' Christian groups who believed AIDS was God's

Discuss the involvement of Patrice Lumumba in the Pan–Africanism movement.
Helped promote movement → founded MNC, went to Kwame's conference
Gave it a bad rep? → arrested for inciting riot
Justify relevance
Thesis:
Patrice Lumumba was involved in the Pan–Africanist movement in positive and negative ways, by
both promoting and negatively connoting its ideology.
Introduction:
A charismatic, dedicated, and zealous leader, Patrice Emery Lumumba (1925–1961) was a civil
servant, activist, and the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of
the Congo. During his lifetime, Lumumba was very active in African politics and supported the

With the help of UN troops, Lumumba was placed under house arrest. However, he escaped to
Stanleyville, with the aim of recovering control by setting up his own government and army.
Lumumba's efforts proved futile when he was captured on December 1, 1960, and taken to Kinshasa
to be tried for "inciting the army to rebellion and other crimes," according to rival Joseph Mobutu.
Lumumba was transferred from the military barracks near Leopoldville to the independent province
of Katanga due to perceived threat to his security. Lumumba was "brutally beaten and tortured by
Katangan and Belgian officers," while travelling, and was placed under arrest while Katangan leader
Moise Tshombe and his cabinet decided on a course of action. According to Belgian report, Patrice
Lumumba was executed by firing squad on January 17, 1961 at age 35. Lumumba's death was
blamed on "enraged villagers", however street protests were organized in several European
countries, and the Belgian embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was attacked. Crowds also marched in
London, protesting the Belgian government's supposed involvement in Lumumba's

Erasing a Nation: The Conservative View of First Nations...
"To be Indian is to lack power – the power to act as owners of your lands, the power to spend your
own money and, too often, the power to change your own condition." Jean Chretien, Minister of
Indian Affairs and Northern Development, 1969 "White Papers"

I mean part of the problem, for the last 150 – 200 years is that First Nations people are not in control

These 'White Papers' focused on the social and economic problems that were rampant within the
First Nation communities and was considered to be humane because of the fact that Native peoples
were integrated within mainstream society [pp.6]. These problems were 'highlighted' through the
result of various studies conducted by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development
from 1966 to 1969 and became the basis of the 'White Paper'. Although the paper was ultimately
defeated, these beliefs were brought into mainstream society and became a more idolized form of
modernizing the Aboriginal peoples. This form of 'helping' the First Nations peoples was the
Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development [D.I.A.N.D] way of dissolving the First
Nations reservations. These institutionalized ideologies were masked as social and economic
reforms that addressed the First Nation communities [pp.5–6]. Such reforms include the state of
welfare on First Nation communities, re–educating the youth, and the identification of a First
Nations person according to the government, which also includes the apology that Prime Minister
Harper spoke on June 11th, 2008. These ideals have become the driving force behind the United
Nation's 'Universal Declaration of Indigenous Rights'. This declaration has yet to be signed by
Canada for a variety of reasons, one of them being that it is in direct violation of Article 25, which is

Political Correctness
Political Correctness should always be the main consideration in the mainstream media (msm)
reports, as well as the academic world. In the book Bias, A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media

political correctness work in the CBS and other msm. In "I Thought Our Job Was to Telling the

elementary education in Canada, and brought up "who gets to decide the best way to educate our

issues of race and class. The elementary school children have been given this information and asked
to make analyzation were far beyond their capacity for understanding these subjects at their age. For
example, the webpage of the Toronto District School Board, in order to promote health education,
posted sex toys and vegetables to help kids explore their sexuality; the Durham Board of Education

Persuasive Speech : Social MediaSpeech, And The Freedom Of...
Imagine sitting in a conference room when a person close by sneezes and a stranger says "Bless
you." The person that sneezed is offended because the phrase goes against the individual's religion,
but the person that said, "Bless you." used the phrase with good intention to show common courtesy.
The other people in the room continue on with the conference as if nothing has happened. This
scenario portrays how one person's decision to get upset based on words another individual has no
effect on the others around because the surrounding spectators determined it was not an issue worth
fussing over. Speech in America has no governmental restrictions, instead, it is limited by society.
The people that limit speech are the same people that encourage freedom of thought and opinion,
while ultimately deciding what can be said in public. Speech should be limited to speaking or
writing in order to convey an idea. A person's belief should be presented in any form, which suitably
promotes their ideas, whether it be in the form of a speech essay, boycott, protest, or social media.
It is important to realize that the First Amendment of the Constitution is open to interpretation.
Individual citizens are allowed to think freely and form personal opinions on any matter, still,
society creates a base for acceptable opinions that one is allowed to publicly express. In the article,
"UC Berkeley Declares Itself Unsafe for Ann Coulter," news journalist, Conor Friedersdorf,

Primitive Methodists: Individual Nonconformists
Until the Methodist Union of 1932, Primitive Methodists continued to be considered a political
people. Although many individual Nonconformists were regarded as such, the Primitives were still
notably political. In 1914 Rev G. A Guest, a former Wesleyan minister who was resigning his
ministry for ordination within the Anglican Church, complained that:
Primitive Methodist ministers are mostly intensely political. I have examined a volume of their
minutes, and in the obituary notices find such sentences as these: 'he was a keen politician', 'he was a
capable politician and prominently employed on the National Liberal Association'. One such
obituary describes the Anglican clergy as 'fawning and creed–bound' and says of its subject that he

The praise was sometimes qualified, reservations being related to either the subject's extreme
political or secular tendencies; only rarely did a Conservative politician achieve similar levels of
approbation. One notable exception was Lord Robert Cecil, a Free Trader and advocate for the
League of Nations. Obituaries of Primitive Methodist Conservatives were rare and, where they exist,
muted. For example, an obituary of a Mr John Pitts suggested that his 'politics were perhaps [my
emphasis] conservative', as if his political views were rarely expressed within the context of his
Church. Significantly, Lloyd George's status as the 'Moses' leading his people to the promised Land
became tarnished by the end of this period due to his adoption of policies that were not in harmony
with those of the Church and his association with the Tories. Liberalism and an ethical Socialism
were still the primary contenders for the political soul of Primitive Methodists, expressed through
the Liberal or Labour Party. Regardless of party, individualism and collectivism had achieved a
harmony that was best expressed in an article by Rev. W. Potter. He praised the spirit of
individualism for achieving religious freedom, political liberties and franchise extension but
suggested that

Media Bias In Social Media
Social media bias. In the article, "Don't blame social media for fake news", Mike Hamm is
defending social media such as Facebook, twitter, etc. He talks about social media only being a place
for people to share their own opinions about news and not being a place to get actual facts. Hamm
describes social media as a "coffee shop" (Hamm, Mike no.5, pg6). He says all social media is, is a
place for people to gossip and eventually, there will be a better social media website to take the
place of Facebook, twitter, Myspace, etc. With that being said, Hamm does realize that social media
does have biased news articles however, he does not believe that they contribute to the decisions of
its viewers. Facebook is starting to "crack down" on fake news articles throughout the social media
website. However, Katrina Trinko says, Facebook's fact–checkers have a liberal bias. Trinko
believes that many of the fake articles on Facebook are withholding information that is containing
the whole truth. She believes that these "fact–checkers" are more likely to crack down on
conservative views instead of the liberal views. (Katrina Trinko Facebook fact–checkers have a
liberal bias) Facebook like other social media sites, have been accused of posting fake articles across
their website. According to the PEW research center, sixty–seven percent of Americans rely on
social media for their news coverage (News use across social media platforms 2016: Jeffrey
Gottfried and Elisa Sherer). While social media has been known to show "fake news", this has a
huge impact on the influence of the viewers (mostly being American teenagers). Whenever there has
been fake news across Facebook, there are circumstances where the fake news will be shared.
Although the person who shares the fake news may not realize that it is fake, the news is being
shared causing people to believe that it is true. Facebook is reaching out to the conservative political
action conference who are questioning the potential for bias news articles. Facebook was censoring
stories about conservative topics back in spring of 2016. Now, CEO Mark Zuckerberg is
investigating and Facebook moved its automate to the trending news section. Facebook is working

Winston Churchill Essay
Winston Churchill
Churchill, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer
Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace, his family's ancestral seat in Oxfordshire, on November 30,
1874. He was the older son of Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill, a British statesman who
rose to be chancellor of the Exchequer and leader of the House of Commons. His mother was an
American, Jennie Jerome, the daughter of a New York financier. Churchill inherited a family
tradition of statesmanship that went back to the great English general John Churchill, the 1st Duke
of Marlborough, in the 17th century.

Again his newspaper dispatches were followed by a book, The River War (1899) in two volumes,
the most substantial work he wrote before entering Parliament.
Churchill resigned his army commission in 1899 and turned to journalism and politics. He ran for a
seat in Parliament as a Conservative candidate but was not elected. He then went to South Africa to
cover the Boer War that had just broken out between Britain and the Boers, descendants of Dutch
settlers. He was captured by the Boers and imprisoned at the State Model School in Pretoria. He
managed to escape from prison and then take the railroad into Portuguese East Africa, a neat little
trick that made him a national hero. He then returned to South Africa and sought another army
commission. He fought and wrote about the war until he returned to London in the summer of 1900.
His newspaper dispatches were promptly reprinted in two books, London to Ladysmith via Pretoria
(1900) and Ian When Churchill returned to England in 1900, his South African exploits had made
him famous, and he was elected to the House of Commons. Though he was a Conservative, he
criticized military spending and supported free trade, which soon resulted in a conflict with the
Conservative leadership, who supported large military budgets and protective tariffs. In 1904 he
"crossed the floor of the House" to take a seat with the Liberal Party.

In recent years, the similarities between the main parties, Labour and the Conservatives, have
increased in comparison to the differences between them. Traditionally, the parties were dissimilar
in ideology and policy, however now they are much more similar, but differ in the way in which
they want to implement their policies. Also, whilst both parties are somewhat internally divided, the
Conservatives are more so than Labour in terms of the issue due to Brexit. Brexit continues to

VOTING AT 16?
Neglected for a generation, a troublesome political question is back : when should young people be
able to vote for candidates in elections? Conservative peer Lord Lucas of Crudwell and Dingwall
recently tabled a Private Members Bill in the Lords. It proposed a voting age of 16. And this week,
for the first time, a national coalition has been launched at the Houses of Parliament. The Votes at 16

Maturity has no history. Youth and politics will never mix. So it follows that teenagers, in their
imprudence, will misuse the vote. At sixteen (says Ellie Levenson of the Fabian Society) 'teenagers
are at their most rebellious and negative stage, a time when they are more keen on making a
statement than acting responsibly.' Like hysterical suffragettes bent on dragging passions into
politics, or ill–mannered nineteenth–century workers, young people are a danger unto themselves.
'Let us not provide', runs Levenson's objection, 'an extra means by which teenagers can rebel against
authority, by either abusing their vote or not voting at all.'
Defenders of the present system are so far in the majority. Yet when judged in terms of arguments
they are in trouble. Their sense of history is poor and they lack both a unified voice and intellectual
authority. No Edmund Burke or Thomas Carlyle is to be found in their ranks. They have Tony Blair,
it's true. At this year's Blackpool conference, when asked about granting sixteen years olds the vote,
he said that citizenship should have a 'legal' starting point : eighteen. The Prime Minister no doubt
knows that the current legal condition of young people is anomalous, but he is not alone in his
beliefs. The conservatives have plenty of politicians on their side, but – given their rising
unpopularity – that may prove to be their joint undoing.
The wiser strategy would be to reform in order to

Robert Bork Analysis
Introduction The role of politics in the Supreme Court became clear when the Senate rejected
President Reagan's Supreme Court nomination of Robert Bork in 1987. Many people consider Bork
one of the most qualified Supreme Court nominees ever, but his extremely conservative views on
civil rights, abortion, and gender equality, among other issues, led to his 58–42 defeat in the Senate.
The politicization of the Supreme Court is a widely–debated topic that often begins with the Justices
themselves and the role of ideology. Some scholars argue that politics' role in Senate confirmation
hearings for Supreme Court nominees overshadows a nominee's judicial philosophy and
qualifications. A particular policy stance can impact the way the Senate and the ... Show more

The Foundation Behind Winston Churchill's Reputation
Usually known for his courageous influence and management of World War II, Winston Churchill
obtained a prestigious reputation in the history books. Although, Churchill's political career pre–
dated the Second World War and also went beyond the years of it. To have a further understanding
of what was the foundation of this political powerhouse, it is important to have knowing of his
childhood, early career and the peak of his course. With a deeper awareness of Churchill, one can
honestly launch an appreciation for the impression he left on politics forever. Churchill was born on
two months premature on the 30th of November in 1974. He descended from a military and political
family of with whom he longed for close relations with (Jenkins 4). Being raised in an accomplished
family put great amounts of pressure on Churchill but also set a bar for him to reach. It was
unfortunate that such a carefree boy was born to the stern and cold hearted Lord and Lady Randolph
Churchill (Jenkins 6). Churchill's parents were not present for most of his childhood, which has
huge effects on the psychology of a child. He spent most of his youth being nurtured by a nanny of
whom he kept in communication with until her death. Churchill showed rebellion in school which
was due to his independence and bad relationships with his parents (Jenkins 19). Military school
seemed to be the only hope for this delinquent, poor student who showed no promise in academics.

upbringing and the emotional aftermath of the First World War" (Beadle 328). During this time
period, he influenced his surroundings with distinct political views and actions throughout Britain.
Oswald Mosley influenced his time being a Member of Parliament however discounted many
opportunities for action blinded by the search of personal power. This blindness led to a fascist
approach towards government with views of leadership, resembling control and courage, and actions
facing the problems of the new modern world. The upbringing of Oswald Mosley, born 16
November 1896, started with his aristocratic family. The family had attempts to campaign against
nineteenth century laissez–faire capitalism however, never achieved mass support from their peers.
His parents separated and Mosley developed under his mother and grandmother. He excelled in
many fields leading some to envy in his success. Oswald Mosley married Lady Cynthia Curzon,
also known as Cimmie, on 11 May 1920. The wedding was one of the largest social events of the
year. Cimmie encouraged Mosley's determination, however the toll of leaving her out on his own
endeavors was an immense burden. These burdens including affairs, a mistress, Diana Guinness,
who he had become fond of, all while reaching no conclusion to leave Cimmie. At this point he was
well traveled, acquiring diverse perceptions to leadership and the correlation to

Essay on Margaret Thatcher's Climb to Power of Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher as Margaret Hilda Roberts was born October 13, 1925 in Grantham, England to
Alfred Roberts, a grocer, preacher, and local mayor, and Beatrice Ethel. She, along with her younger
sister, Muriel, spent most of their childhood in Grantham, helping with their father's grocery
business. Margaret's father was active in local politics and brought up Margaret and Muriel as strict
Methodists. He became Mayor of Grantham in 1945, but lost his position as alderman in 1952, when
the Labor Party came into power. Margaret won a scholarship to Kesteven and Grantham Girls'

In 1970, Margaret Thatcher, as the Minister for Education, encouraged an increase in the education
budget and the creation of more schools. However, her tryst with infamy began when she earned the
title 'Thatcher, the Milk Snatcher' when she abolished a scheme providing free milk to primary
school children during school hours. Margaret attracted a lot of negative publicity for her impetuous
actions. Due to frustration with then Prime Minister Edward Heath and his contrasting ideas, she
ironically announced, "I don't think there will be a woman prime minister in my lifetime" in 1973.
On October 12, 1984 the Irish Republican Army planted a bomb in the hotel Thatcher was staying at
in an attempt to assassinate her. In 1974, the Conservative Party lost their power and Margaret soon
became a dominant extortion in her political field. She was elected as leader of the Conservative
Party in 1975, victoriously beating Edward Heath and became the first woman to serve as the
opposition leader in the House of Commons, succeeding 130 votes against 119. Thatcher was finally
appointed as the Prime Minister on May 4, 1979, defeating the opposition party which was
unpopular and separated. In 1979, Britain's economy was in a critical financial crisis and Thatcher's

How Did You Identify The Theoretical Statement?
How did you identify the theoretical statement in the argument?
Do you believe the theoretical statement should be accepted? Why, or why not?
If the statement should be accepted, demonstrate how it is immune to first–stage criticism.
If the statement should not be accepted, demonstrate how either first–stage or second–stage criticism
of the theory undermines its veracity. Mass shootings have become a disturbing movement that only
seems to be rising. The Orlando tragedy caused opened the conversation towards guns and public
safety. Americans no longer feel safe. The theoretical statement in Why Obama Can't do anything
about guns by Jamelle Bouie is gun control isn't the President Barack Obama's failure; it is the
American people not speaking up. The theory used as a premise in this argument is not accepted
because the understanding of gun policy is still a myth (Bouie, 2016). Additionally, the alternative
theory is if gun policies were to remain stagnant, the danger would escalate over time. The doubtful
prediction derived from this theoretical statement would be republicans supporting the liberal views
about gun control. Americans and the U.S. government must stand together to fight for the
protection of the society. The tragic mass shooting in Orlando caused Americans to question the
president's role in fighting for gun control. According to CNN, "Orlando's incident was the deadliest
mass shooting in the United States and the nation's worst terror attack since

‘The main reason for conservative dominance in the years...
'The main reason for conservative dominance in the years 1951 to 1964 was labour disunity' Assess
the validity of this view. (June 2011)
Labour disunity was a huge contributing factor as to why the conservatives were able to dominate
from 1951 to 1964. However, there are also other factors that assisted conservative dominance.
Whether that be conservative strengths, good timing, the end of austerity or their handle on public
opinion, all factors contributed to the dominant years. However, how long the conservatives actually
dominated is also a question. Did they dominate for the whole period, or just part of it? The years
1962–1964 question conservative dominance and how labour reunited.
One of the major reasons why Conservatives were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Failure to exploit opportunities was also another labour problem. The 1956 sued crisis provided
labour with a great opportunity to get back on the attack. If there had been a general election in 1957
then things may have favoured labour. However, Suez did not split the conservatives and labour
were left with few targets to aim at in hoping to gain more supporters. The Labour party's inability
to counter conservative mistakes was a direct result of their disunity.
As well as labour disunity there are other factors to consider as to why conservatives dominated.
Firstly, the reorganisation of the party machine led by Lord Woolton after the dislocation caused by
the war and the shock defeat for the conservatives in 1946 proved pivotal for the conservatives in
improving their ideas (new conservatives with new ideas) and general organisation.
The conservatives recognised the extent of public approval for the legacy of the Attlee government.
Most Conservatives grasped the political realities of the time. There can be no outright rejection of
the welfare state, nor a total reversal of nationalisation. Attitudes towards industry, the trade unions
and social policy were going to have to be very different from the 1930s because the experiences of
the war years had made people far more ready to accept the need for state intervention and planning.
The post–war years had seen living standards rise, proving to be very popular

Ted Cruz Research Paper
There has been a great number of leaders throughout history; Presidents, Governors, Senators,
Teachers, Counsellors, and many other different examples, but what makes them a leader? It's been
said that good leaders are confident, have vision, are motivated, and in it for more than themselves.
One man that shows good leadership qualities is Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz was elected
Senator of Texas in 2012, and is married to his wife, Heidi. People criticize Texas senator Ted Cruz

Liberalism vs Conservatism and the Blurring of Lines Essay
People can often be heard spewing nonsensical political jargon such as belonging to either the
"Right" or "Left", but what exactly does belonging to and holding such positions mean? There are a
countless many political parties to which one can belong and although there are those who believe
that they can be broken into the two categories and schools of thought; namely that of Liberalism
and Conservatism, they are, without a doubt, completely wrong; However, before we address that,
let us proceed to define these two ambiguous terms.
As Jonathan Heidt, a social psychologist stated in a 2008 presentation, at TED (the Technological,
Entertainment and Design conferences), Conservatism and Liberalism operate at opposite ends of
two extremes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, Liberals advocate for government regulation of economy, on the pretense of protecting
the common man against monopolies, trusts, massive corporation and the like; but are against any
intervention on the social level; meaning that people should be free to do and believe whatever they
please, assuming it's not against the law; and are against anything that interferes with free choice; to
some extent, they believe that corporations are greedy and can't be trusted. They feel that the
government should work in the public interest and that it must act to protect individuals.
On the other hand, modern day Conservatives, as their title suggests, are "resistant to [overly

terms of regulating commerce and the like)], defensive of tradition and [are] supportive of free

Winston Churchill
Churchill, Sir Winston Leonard Spencer
Churchill was born at Blenheim Palace, his family's ancestral seat in Oxfordshire, on November 30,

tradition of statesmanship that went back to the great English general John Churchill, the 1st Duke

His newspaper dispatches were promptly reprinted in two books, London to Ladysmith via Pretoria

Conservative leadership, who supported large military budgets and protective tariffs. In 1904 he

Absolutism And Individualism Research Paper
Western liberal and deeply individualistic societies have defined morality in a very narrow sense. By
just considering harm, western liberals miss out on the wider variety of moral flavours available in
other societies. In more traditional societies, where a greater emphasis is placed on the value of
community, morality is not as narrowly defined. Countries that prioritize the group, above the
individual, take a more sociocentric approach to morality which brings in the wider array of moral
bases. Other than care/harm, Haidt distinguished between four more bases for morality,
fair/cheating, loyalty/betrayal, authority/subversion, and sanctity/degradation. Unlike in western
liberals, conservatives and those in more sociocentric societies taste all of these flavours of morality
when making moral judgments. Liberals, according to Haidt, are able to understand fair/cheating

Abstract: Margaret Thatcher Essays
Abstract: Margaret Thatcher The essay explores the life, times and legacy of Margaret Thatcher, the
most outstanding female in the 20th century. The controlling idea is that she was a woman with
great ambition, endeavour and determination to overcome difficulties of reaching her dream. Her
ambition gained her trust from others gradually and made her the first female Prime Minister of the
United Kingdom. She struck to sweep away a great prejudice against the mere idea of having a
woman as an important political member . As a Prime Minister, she determinedly made three
notable achievements to Britain. She won admiration from all over the world. Thus, she should be

Margaret Hilda Roberts, was born on October 13, 1925 in a grocer's family in Grantham, a quiet old
town in the dullest county of England. Later on December 13, 1951, she married Denis Thatcher and
became Mrs.Thatcher. Early at the age of ten, Margaret had shown her special interest in political
activities. There was a heated election contest that year, which made many men stop in at her
father's shop and discussed politics. When Margaret was helping her father one evening, she listened
eagerly to the discussion and even dared to ask to offer assistants to the cause. So she was given a
job of delivering a list to her father's political party on the day of election. On the list were names of
those who had already cast their ballots. Standing outside the place where people were voting, she
felt thrilled. Later she attended Oxford and was excitingly involved with political discussions in
OUCA(Oxford University Conservative Association). Miss Margaret Roberts' many tough questions
on many different topics enlivened OUCA meetings, which won her the favor from some of her
fellow students. During her third year at Oxford, she became the first woman ever to be chosen as

Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Clinton's Speech

Clinton takes a bold move to demand action from the leaders at the conference and in order to do

her speech where Clinton used an anaphora. Another point Clinton made sure to repeat is that
"families will flourish" (Clinton) when "women are healthy and educated", "full and equal partners
in society", and "free from violence" (Clinton). A major point in Clinton's speech was that in order
to help all people to succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be
directly affected because of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well–
being of families is a point that would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most
people, so she made sure to repeat that phrase several times. The mention of families is so important
because even though there were so many people who opposed her speech, but they were also groups
that were concerned for the well being of families, so she was able to use families to unite even the
people who are against her. When looking at the diction of Clinton's speech, she uses three different

Political Activism
What motivated conservative women into political activism between 1980–2008? What
organizations and networks did they form? What were their central issues? After the sexual
revolution of the 1960's and 1970's, conservatives were becoming increasingly concerned about the
rise of homosexuality and heterosexual promiscuity prior to marriage. Conservatives were fearful of
the immoralities they were witnessing as well as the liberal notion of people depending on the
government to be a social provider and concerns about the implications of social activism that they
were witnessing. This called for a shift in politics and government. Voters elected Ronald Reagan as

affected by the dispute and asked for donations of clothes and money to assist those on strike. Huge
numbers of Primitive donors responded. However, in addition to alleviating distress, at least one

Representatives. Rand was not novice in politics as he spent a great deal of time interning in his
father's congressional office. Over the years, Rand Paul has made several moves which are for the
good of people and our country. Rand founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic in 2009 to
supply eye surgery and exams for low income families who cannot otherwise afford the services. He
seems to be a logical, straightforward leader. In 1994, Paul founded, and served as Chair of the anti–
tax organization Kentucky Taxpayers United (KTU). He has often cited his involvement with KTU
as the foundation of his involvement with state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the first time in congressional history that someone served in the Senate while their parent
simultaneously served in the House of Representatives. As Senator, Rand Paul's first legislative
proposal was to eliminate five hundred billion from federal expenditures in just one year. Afterward,
he proposed a five–year budget plan projected to balance the budget. The Senator stated, during the
debt ceiling crisis, that he would only support raising the debt ceiling if a balanced budget
amendment was enacted. On August 3rd, he voted against a bill that would raise the debt ceiling. In
response to Detroit's declaration of bankruptcy, Paul stated he would not allow the government to
attempt to bail out Detroit. In a phone interview with Breitbart on July 19, 2013, Paul said, "I
basically say he is bailing them out over my dead body because we don't have any money in
Washington." Paul said he thought a federal bailout would send the wrong message to other cities

Another type of rhetorical strategy favoured by the political leader in her speech is the use of memorable phrases that encapsulate arguments, communicate assertiveness and simplicity. ' Children who need to count and multiply are learning anti–racist mathematics.' ( line 44) ' Children who need to be able to express themselves in clear English are being taught political slogans.' ( line 45) ' Children who need to be taught to respect traditional moral values are being taught that they have an inalienable right to be gay.' • 4. Israel's Expansion Of Israel Since the end of the Holocaust in the mid 1940's, the Jewish population has been seeking a means of escape from the sadly ever present anti–semitic world. When Zionism emerged as a new sect of Judaism, one that promised a communal effort to return to Jerusalem and the promised land of Abraham's covenant, the Jewish world became ecstatic with the hope of ending their constant displacement. However, as the land of Israel was settled and its expansion prospered, the greed and lust of the Israeli politicians pushed the borders of Israel into the already diminishing territory of Palestine. As time passes it becomes more and more clear that the Israeli expansion into Palestine is unjust, and lacks a coherent justification for their occupation. ... Peace talks go back as far as 1969, following the devastation of the War of 1969. Resolution 242 forced Israeli troops to withdraw from any occupied territory in exchange for recognition of Israel as an independent state and a team effort to assist in the refugee problem. Neither party actively followed the actions of a ceasefire until 1978, when an official peace treaty was formed. Following the assistance of President Jimmy Carter in the peace treaty of 1979, the Israeli–Palestinian broke out again and the conflict was not resolved again until 1991, where another ceasefire was established. Since then, a total of 8 conferences had been held to create peace. Yet the civil unrest furthered by the constant development of Israeli settlements and checkpoints, further and further into Palestine. • 6. Capitalism And Climate Change Regardless of the people who do and do not believe in global warming, climate change is a pressing issue that has been accepted scientifically and politically for the past few decades. Although seemingly insignificant, a global temperature increase of 2°C is enough for worldwide pandemonium. To mitigate the effects of greenhouse gases that are trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere, nation leaders have gathered to settle and promise a fixed reduction in their country's carbon emissions; the target emission level will cause an increase of only 1.5°C. Prominent examples include the Kyoto Protocol and Copenhagen Accord, with the most recent being the Paris Agreement. Nevertheless, disappointing carbon emission results from the Kyoto Protocol ... Williams agrees with my point because he believes newly elected world leaders would be "more responsible and account to ordinary people" (The Real News Network). Take India for example: their political climate is separated into cooperative internationalists and non–cooperative nationalists, the latter being more insistent that climate change is not real (qtd. in Clemenco 17). These climate change deniers are hindering the efforts of the government by rejecting any domestic efforts to reduce emissions. In America, Trump withdrew from the Paris pact for several reasons: he has personal beliefs that climate change is a Chinese hoax and thinks coal is a clean source of energy. • 8. Catholic Religious Beliefs The Catholic Church's current pope, Pope Francis once said, "A good Catholic meddles in politics, offering the best of himself, so that those who govern can govern. But what is the best that we can offer to those who govern? Prayer!" Catholics are approximately half of the number of Christians, reaching more than one billion members. This number makes it one of the largest religions in the world. In 2003, the Catholic population in the United States was 63.4 million (Roman Catholic Church, 2017). The Catholic Church's basic beliefs influence their demographics, party affiliation, stances on different political issues, and involvement in American politics. I attended a service at The Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. At this service, politics were not directly mentioned, but Father Darin Schmidt said a few interesting words. In a message to the congregation he said, "love unconditionally, without limits." Additionally, he also said, "peace, liberty, and justice for all." I think these quotes are helpful in understanding the Catholic Church's ideologies. During prayer, they mentioned a few current issues including support for the military, the Las Vegas shooting, refugees, and victims of natural disasters. Besides these few observations, the cathedral did express any straightforward political statements. One of the best ways to understand a religion's political views is to understand their basic beliefs and what they feel to be good and moral. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Of Paul Monette's 'Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir' Chris Shea ENG 474 Professor Aimee Pozorski 04/26/17 The 1980s were a historic decade in the United States. While the American economy may have been doing relatively well at this point, this decade actually served as a turbulent one in American society. This tension was triggered by the discovery of the AIDS virus in 1981. Soon it rapidly spread all over America and the world, leaving a trail of death and despair in its wake. One such victim of this tragic disease is Paul Monette, a gay man who documents the AIDS virus in his 1988 memoir Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir. From a surface reading, one would think that this is all the memoir has to offer: a simple documentation of the AIDS virus as it affects his partner Roger. However, a historic closer reading of this memoir ultimately reveals a hidden, much deeper disconnect Paul has, one involving the religious aspect of the AIDS crisis. When read in this regard, one may become able to see how this disconnect affects Paul and Roger and further complicates the AIDS crisis. In order to discover the disconnect going on in the U.S. Paul Monette deals with as his partner suffers and ultimately dies from AIDS, one must first discover what the two sides of this disconnect are. ... It was said that everyone appointed by the Reagan administration...hate, it appeared, was the only public health tool available." (Monette 166). This is where Monette finally opens up about the homophobia felt by conservative Christians and the government in general. He says that a lot of people who Reagan appointed in major health positions were either Mormons or Fundamentalists, historically right–wing 'Bible–thumping' Christian groups who believed AIDS was God's Punishment for gay ... Introduction: A charismatic, dedicated, and zealous leader, Patrice Emery Lumumba (1925–1961) was a civil servant, activist, and the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With the help of UN troops, Lumumba was placed under house arrest. However, he escaped to Stanleyville, with the aim of recovering control by setting up his own government and army. Lumumba's efforts proved futile when he was captured on December 1, 1960, and taken to Kinshasa to be tried for "inciting the army to rebellion and other crimes," according to rival Joseph Mobutu. Lumumba was transferred from the military barracks near Leopoldville to the independent province of Katanga due to perceived threat to his security. Lumumba was "brutally beaten and tortured by Katangan and Belgian officers," while travelling, and was placed under arrest while Katangan leader Moise Tshombe and his cabinet decided on a course of action. According to Belgian report, Patrice Lumumba was executed by firing squad on January 17, 1961 at age 35. Lumumba's death was blamed on "enraged villagers", however street protests were organized in several European countries, and the Belgian embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was attacked. These 'White Papers' focused on the social and economic problems that were rampant within the First Nation communities and was considered to be humane because of the fact that Native peoples were integrated within mainstream society [pp.6]. These problems were 'highlighted' through the result of various studies conducted by the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development from 1966 to 1969 and became the basis of the 'White Paper'. Although the paper was ultimately defeated, these beliefs were brought into mainstream society and became a more idolized form of modernizing the Aboriginal peoples. This form of 'helping' the First Nations peoples was the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development [D.I.A.N.D] way of dissolving the First Nations reservations. These institutionalized ideologies were masked as social and economic reforms that addressed the First Nation communities [pp.5–6]. Such reforms include the state of welfare on First Nation communities, re–educating the youth, and the identification of a First Nations person according to the government, which also includes the apology that Prime Minister Harper spoke on June 11th, 2008. These ideals have become the driving force behind the United Nation's 'Universal Declaration of Indigenous Rights'. Social justice is a broad term, and it encompasses diversity, sustainability, global affairs and issues of race and class. The elementary school children have been given this information and asked to make analyzation were far beyond their capacity for understanding these subjects at their age. • 20. Persuasive Speech : Social MediaSpeech, And The Freedom Of... Imagine sitting in a conference room when a person close by sneezes and a stranger says "Bless you." The person that sneezed is offended because the phrase goes against the individual's religion, but the person that said, "Bless you." used the phrase with good intention to show common courtesy. The other people in the room continue on with the conference as if nothing has happened. This scenario portrays how one person's decision to get upset based on words another individual has no effect on the others around because the surrounding spectators determined it was not an issue worth fussing over. Speech in America has no governmental restrictions, instead, it is limited by society. The people that limit speech are the same people that encourage freedom of thought and opinion, while ultimately deciding what can be said in public. Speech should be limited to speaking or writing in order to convey an idea. A person's belief should be presented in any form, which suitably promotes their ideas, whether it be in the form of a speech essay, boycott, protest, or social media. It is important to realize that the First Amendment of the Constitution is open to interpretation. Individual citizens are allowed to think freely and form personal opinions on any matter, still, society creates a base for acceptable opinions that one is allowed to publicly express. • 22. Primitive Methodists: Individual Nonconformists Until the Methodist Union of 1932, Primitive Methodists continued to be considered a political people. Although many individual Nonconformists were regarded as such, the Primitives were still notably political. In 1914 Rev G. A Guest, a former Wesleyan minister who was resigning his ministry for ordination within the Anglican Church, complained that: Primitive Methodist ministers are mostly intensely political. I have examined a volume of their minutes, and in the obituary notices find such sentences as these: 'he was a keen politician', 'he was a capable politician and prominently employed on the National Liberal Association'. One such obituary describes the Anglican clergy as 'fawning and creed–bound' and says of its subject that he regarded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The praise was sometimes qualified, reservations being related to either the subject's extreme political or secular tendencies; only rarely did a Conservative politician achieve similar levels of approbation. One notable exception was Lord Robert Cecil, a Free Trader and advocate for the League of Nations. Obituaries of Primitive Methodist Conservatives were rare and, where they exist, muted. For example, an obituary of a Mr John Pitts suggested that his 'politics were perhaps [my emphasis] conservative', as if his political views were rarely expressed within the context of his Church. Significantly, Lloyd George's status as the 'Moses' leading his people to the promised Land became tarnished by the end of this period due to his adoption of policies that were not in harmony with those of the Church and his association with the Tories. Liberalism and an ethical Socialism were still the primary contenders for the political soul of Primitive Methodists, expressed through the Liberal or Labour Party. Regardless of party, individualism and collectivism had achieved a harmony that was best expressed in an article by Rev. W. Potter. He praised the spirit of individualism for achieving religious freedom, political liberties and franchise extension but suggested that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Media Bias In Social Media Social media bias. In the article, "Don't blame social media for fake news", Mike Hamm is defending social media such as Facebook, twitter, etc. He talks about social media only being a place for people to share their own opinions about news and not being a place to get actual facts. Hamm describes social media as a "coffee shop" (Hamm, Mike no.5, pg6). He says all social media is, is a place for people to gossip and eventually, there will be a better social media website to take the place of Facebook, twitter, Myspace, etc. With that being said, Hamm does realize that social media does have biased news articles however, he does not believe that they contribute to the decisions of its viewers. Facebook is starting to "crack down" on fake news articles throughout the social media website. However, Katrina Trinko says, Facebook's fact–checkers have a liberal bias. Trinko believes that many of the fake articles on Facebook are withholding information that is containing the whole truth. She believes that these "fact–checkers" are more likely to crack down on conservative views instead of the liberal views. (Katrina Trinko Facebook fact–checkers have a liberal bias) Facebook like other social media sites, have been accused of posting fake articles across their website. According to the PEW research center, sixty–seven percent of Americans rely on social media for their news coverage (News use across social media platforms 2016: Jeffrey Gottfried and Elisa Sherer). While social media has been known to show "fake news", this has a huge impact on the influence of the viewers (mostly being American teenagers). Whenever there has been fake news across Facebook, there are circumstances where the fake news will be shared. Although the person who shares the fake news may not realize that it is fake, the news is being shared causing people to believe that it is true. Facebook is reaching out to the conservative political action conference who are questioning the potential for bias news articles. Like hysterical suffragettes bent on dragging passions into politics, or ill–mannered nineteenth–century workers, young people are a danger unto themselves. 'Let us not provide', runs Levenson's objection, 'an extra means by which teenagers can rebel against authority, by either abusing their vote or not voting at all.' (June 2011) Labour disunity was a huge contributing factor as to why the conservatives were able to dominate from 1951 to 1964. However, there are also other factors that assisted conservative dominance. Whether that be conservative strengths, good timing, the end of austerity or their handle on public opinion, all factors contributed to the dominant years. However, Suez did not split the conservatives and labour were left with few targets to aim at in hoping to gain more supporters. The Labour party's inability to counter conservative mistakes was a direct result of their disunity. As well as labour disunity there are other factors to consider as to why conservatives dominated. Firstly, the reorganisation of the party machine led by Lord Woolton after the dislocation caused by the war and the shock defeat for the conservatives in 1946 proved pivotal for the conservatives in improving their ideas (new conservatives with new ideas) and general organisation. The conservatives recognised the extent of public approval for the legacy of the Attlee government. Most Conservatives grasped the political realities of the time. There can be no outright rejection of the welfare state, nor a total reversal of nationalisation. Countries that prioritize the group, above the individual, take a more sociocentric approach to morality which brings in the wider array of moral bases. I think it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing; knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose."(Brainy Quote Website) Life Margaret Hilda Roberts, was born on October 13, 1925 in a grocer's family in Grantham, a quiet old town in the dullest county of England. Later on December 13, 1951, she married Denis Thatcher and became Mrs.Thatcher. Early at the age of ten, Margaret had shown her special interest in political activities. There was a heated election contest that year, which made many men stop in at her father's shop and discussed politics. When Margaret was helping her father one evening, she listened eagerly to the discussion and even dared to ask to offer assistants to the cause. So she was given a job of delivering a list to her father's political party on the day of election. On the list were names of those who had already cast their ballots. Standing outside the place where people were voting, she felt thrilled. Later she attended Oxford and was excitingly involved with political discussions in OUCA(Oxford University Conservative Association). Miss Margaret Roberts' many tough questions on many different topics enlivened OUCA meetings, which won her the favor from some of her fellow students. During her third year at Oxford, she became the first woman ever to be chosen as OUCA's president. Later she decided to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Rhetorical Analysis Of Bill Clinton's Speech In order to ensure her speech resonated in the mind of leaders from around the world, Clinton at times uses and authoritative and urgent tone, while also utilizing techniques such as repetition. At one point in her speech, Clinton's tone shifted as she became extremely passionate. She cried, "the history of women has been a history of silence. Even today, there are those who are trying to silence our words. But the voices of this conference and of the women at Huairou must be heard loudly and clearly: It is a violation of human rights when babies are denied food, or drowned, or suffocated, or their spines broken, simply because they are born girls. Clinton takes a bold move to demand action from the leaders at the conference and in order to do that she must shift her tone to represent the authority she wants to present. There is another time in her speech where Clinton used an anaphora. Another point Clinton made sure to repeat is that "families will flourish" (Clinton) when "women are healthy and educated", "full and equal partners in society", and "free from violence" (Clinton). A major point in Clinton's speech was that in order to help all people to succeed, women must first be allowed to succeed, and the people that will be directly affected because of this success would be the families. Clinton understood that the well– being of families is a point that would connect her audience because it is a topic that concerned most people, so she made sure to repeat that phrase several times. The mention of families is so important because even though there were so many people who opposed her speech, but they were also groups that were concerned for the well being of families, so she was able to use families to unite even the people who are against her. • 62. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Ms. Ives Ms. Ives, here is what's wrong with your ad The Chicago Tribune's editorial "Ms. Ives, here is what's wrong with your ad" goes over the backlash that followed Ms. Ives campaign television ad and her response to the offended viewers. Ms. Ives is a conservative Republican running for Governor of Illinois against Gov. Bruce Rauner. Her orthodox views on abortion and transgender rights gained her popularity with the GOP voters of the area (Ms. Ives, here is what's wrong with your ad). She delivered the controversial ad stirring the opinions of Illinois residents a few days ago and has then been massive news around the area. The particular ad stars a cast of individuals "thanking" Rauner for his progressive actions. The ad features a mocking version of a teacher, a rich man, a feminist, an illegal "criminal" and a man wearing a dress who is, allegedly, representing the transgender community. The ad mocks the most marginalized areas of the Illinois community, however, during her press conference at the Chicago City Club Ives said: "The commercial does not attack people, it tackles issues". Much like the author I believe Ives intentions were hurtful and should be a red flag for people considering giving her their vote. The author states Ives "She wants to be governor of all the people, yet she reveals a side of her character that's unbecoming of an elected leader", I believe the position of governor should be occupied by a person whose personal opinions and prejudices are left behind and do not affect their role in society, therefore, I believe Ms. Ives is not qualified for the position of Governor. • 64. Political Activism What motivated conservative women into political activism between 1980–2008? What organizations and networks did they form? What were their central issues? After the sexual revolution of the 1960's and 1970's, conservatives were becoming increasingly concerned about the rise of homosexuality and heterosexual promiscuity prior to marriage. Conservatives were fearful of the immoralities they were witnessing as well as the liberal notion of people depending on the government to be a social provider and concerns about the implications of social activism that they were witnessing. This called for a shift in politics and government. Voters elected Ronald Reagan as the new president and relied on his promise to "restore the United States' ... Women and organizations that typically separated politics from their religious affiliations joined in the campaign. Suddenly organizations such as Women Who Want to Be Women, the Family Preservation League, and the National Council of Catholic Women as well as younger Evangelical Christians, Southern Baptists, Mormons, Orthodox Jews, and Roman Catholics were rallying in support of STOP ERA. Of interest to note, the majority of those opposed to ERA were mostly white middle class women, to be married, over thirty years of age, and had college educations. Schlafly was also instrumental in leading workshops and trainings to teach activists how to speak in public and debate as well as offering advice on how to look good and be poised under pressure. She also drafted and taught ERA rebuttals. She advised local groups to send young, polished, well dressed, pretty young women to essentially bribe and flirt with legislators. These legislators were easily influenced by these women because of their connections to them in the communities that they lived and attended church. Politicians were willing to cooperate since these women participated in political campaigns. Essentially they worked to provide a stereotype that would make feminists look like outcasts. • 66. Primitive Methodist Society Chapter 14 This chapter begins in the year that five working–class MPs closely associated with the Primitive Methodist Connexion entered the House of Commons. It ends prior to the South African War: a test of Primitive Methodism's commitment to peace. It will demonstrate that the Church and its members engaged increasingly in political activity, primarily through a commitment to the Liberal Party. Their support for trade unions and the prominence they gave to the Land Question was notable, a reflection of the interests of their core membership: commonly miners and agricultural labourers residing in industrial villages and the countryside. Their allegiance to the Liberal Party began to fracture during the Home Rule debate and consequential to some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The miners had refused to accept significant wage reductions and the owners had locked them out. The newspaper described the lockout as 'The Coal War' and the dispute dominated its pages for several months. Letters from Primitive Methodist ministers described the dire straits of those affected by the dispute and asked for donations of clothes and money to assist those on strike. Huge numbers of Primitive donors responded. However, in addition to alleviating distress, at least one minister took an active part in demonstrations in favour of the miners, marching under his chapel banner. Another chaired meetings in support of the miners and expressed 'his indignation at the conduct of the Masters' Federation'. Although one anonymous correspondent to Primitive Methodist, while supporting the justice of the miners' case, blamed them for not accepting arbitration, the editorials and all other correspondence were firmly behind the miners. One editorial blamed the coalowners for seeking such a large reduction in wages, describing their actions as 'positive greed' and 'a wrong–headed policy on their part'. He continued by affirming the Connexion's sympathy with 'the miners, and with other classes of toilers in this country'. The miners deserved to be 'well– paid'. The Government eventually interceded to end the dispute; an intervention warmly welcomed by the paper, which hoped for the creation of Boards of Conciliation on which both employers and employees would be equally ... I want to first say thank you for inviting me to speak... It is not only an honor but will be the highlight of my life to not only address some of our party's rank and file but, to also place emphasis on our core principles and just what it is that makes us conservatives. I should like to start this address with congratulating President Donald Trump (who is out steamrolling the media and liberals everywhere in his haste for effective and efficient government) with his UPSET victory in this past election. And, considering soft options offered up from the establishment wing of the party there was no hope for any kind of fight that we have seen from President Trump that would have come about had we chosen the "softer option". And, we have to admit since announcing his candidacy he has moved quite substantially to the right of important issues. My friends, this new era of political conservatism will be married with strength, resolve, and outright disdain for calls of appeasing our political foes in matters at the heart of our core principles. What are these core principles? Principles of freedom, faith, family, sanctity of life, national pride that is American exceptionalism, low taxes, Strong national defense, the rule of law, limited government intervention in our daily lives. And most of all the belief in the individual. As I have stated previously these principles are the right principles... for without them we concede a world that knows of no freedom, the devaluing of life, a faith not in family and self–worth, but in a tyrannical centralized government with no respect for the life, freedom and rights of its people, to the children and grandchildren we claim so much to love and care ...
