Satanism Essay
Abstract
Satanism is a blatantly, selfish, brutal religion. There are millions of Satanists worldwide. The occult is on the rise because young people are seeking
their identity through what Satanism offers. Anton Szandor LaVey the creator of the Church of Satan believes in attitudes that are ungodly,
controversial, unethical, immoral, and perversive as evidenced by the present society.

Sections of Ephesians 6:10–17 say, "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against devil's schemes for our struggle is not
against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." It is also clear that
the everlasting battle between evil and good exists as evidenced by tragedy, and suffering in the world. In Revelation 20:10– it is understood that it will
take a long time for Satan to be destroyed (http://www.truthortradition.com).
Satanism is defined as a small minority religion. The followers were different groups of people who were Gothic, Religious or Satanic dabblers. The
Gothic Satanists were belief to date back to the middle ages to fables about "Witches". Women were believed to worship Satan and submit their lives
to him by kidnapping and killing babies. They harmed others using curses and black magic. The Religious Satanists were adults who worshipped a
pre–Christian deity Set. They were atheists and agnostics who saw Satan as a symbol of power. The Satanic Dabblers are typically rebellious
teenagers who created their own black magic. They performed rituals and were responsible for graffiti on buildings and sacrificing small animals (http:/

Exemplification Essay: Separation of Church and State
Because of my strong beliefs, I have been called the Antichrist, a witch, an atheist, and a Satanist. Fervent Christians have told me that my "kind" is
solely responsible for the downfall of American morals.
Actually, none of these labels fits me. I am not a witch because the only modern religion to practice witchcraft is Wicca (American Heritage 1381),
and I am not a Wiccan. I am not a Satanist because modern Satanists do not believe in Satan as an actual entity; instead, they follow a "religion of the
self," as the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, put it. (LaVey 1) Satanists also belong to an organization such as theChurch of Satan or the
Temple of Set, and I do not belong to any such organization. I do not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In practice, however, this is not the case. Many laws and governmental practices impose the morality of a group of people on the people in general.
For instance, "blue laws," which are slowly disappearing from the law books of cities and counties across the United States, are passed to keep
people from doing business on Sunday, in order to preserve the observance of the Sabbath. (Blue Laws 13–5) Until it is proven that young children or
other members of society are harmed by what consenting adults do behind closed doors, any law prohibiting sexual acts between those consenting
adults can only have a religious motivation. Similarly, tax breaks for married couples that are not given to non–married couples living together are
religiously motivated, and the tax–exempt status of churches also blurs the line between Church and State. If churches are tax exempt because they
provide guidance and spirituality in people's lives, then 1–900 psychic lines should also be tax exempt businesses; if churches are exempt only because
they provide people with something to do on Sundays, then movie theaters should be tax exempt also.
One common justification that people, such as Pat Buchanan, who attempt to legislate Christianity use is that the founding fathers of our country were
Christian, so the Declaration of Independence and

Satan, Beelzebub, El Diablo And The Old And New Testament
Lucifer, Beelzebub, El Diablo, all of these are names for the same Evil One most commonly known as Satan. While most religions have a dark being
or devil–type character, the most prominent and widely recognized to be true is the Judeo–Christian Satan who appears in both the Old and New
Testament. The modern understanding ofSatan is a slightly misguided and deviant from the truth as most churches are hesitant to preach about the
prince of darkness and the secular world romanticizes the idea of the devil. Through the lens of the New Testament of the bible, this essay will unpack;
most of what is generally known about Satan, what he does, some misconceptions, and how he is seen by popular culture and the church.
To begin to understand what the devil does and what the world thinks of him it is important to first find out who he is and if he is even real. While
the bible does not often speak of his origins it does give some insight in Isaiah 14:12–15, " You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; above the
stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the
clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit." Satan was God's right hand angel
and then he tried to exalt himself to the same level as God and in turn got cast out of heaven along with his followers, one third of the angels. This
sentiment is often

Cult Research Paper
The word cult is defined as an alternative religion. Most cults are started because someone doesn't like the way the world is, and feels that his/her
church isn't doing anything to make it better, so they leave and create what they believe to be the perfect religion. Then this person strives to make
others believe as they do so they will join (Miller, 1991, p. 15). There are somewhere around 3,000 to 5,000 of these cults throughout the United States,
but only 75 to 100 are documented (Miller, 1991, p. 15–16). Satanism is the oldest form of such cults. A few other commonly known cults are Reverend
Jim Jones and the People Temple, Heavens Gate, and Charles Manson and the Family.

In 1977 Jones was forced to move his church to a secluded jungle in Guyana, South America. There he created Jonestown (Cults R Us, 2000,
September 27, p. 1).
In 1978, Leo Ryan went to Jonestown on a fact–finding investigation. After being there for only one day, a member tried to stab him. When Ryan tried
to leave the compound, members of the church shot at his plane and killed him. A few hours after this incident, Jones made all the members drink
grape–flavored Fla–Vor–Aid that was laced with potassium cyanide and tranquilizers. All members did so, some by force, and most died. Surviving
members later committed suicide (Cults R Us, 2000, September 27, p. 1).
Many people believe that Jim was involved with the CIA, and that Jonestown was just a mind control experiment. Later Henry Lee, a known serial
killer, said he was the one who delivered the cyanide to Jones (Cults R Us, 2000,September 27, p. 1).
One of the more recently publicized cults is Heavens Gate. Heavens Gate was the only known "doomsday–cult–web–design–team". On March 26,
1997, they believed there would be a space ship hiding in the tail of the Hale–Bopp comet, and it would come and take them to their "mother planet".
This caused a mass suicide of 21 women, and 18 men. "All the people that committed suicide were between 26 and 72, all had buzz cuts, were dressed
in black pants, oversized shirts, and brand new Nikes".

The Devil Is The Embodiment Of Evil
The Devil or Lucifer is arguably one of the most famous figures in existence. He is considered the Prince of Darkness and is supposed to be the
embodiment of evil. However, our perception of the Devil has changed drastically over the centuries. "Satan" can mean something very different
depending on the person. Some see the Devil as their god or a hero and others seem him as a symbol of all that is wicked. Some may view the Devil
as nothing, but a joke and others believe he is as real as the rest of us. The concept of "the Devil" continues to evolve. The first mention of the Devil
or Satan rather dates back to the first chapters of the Hebrew Bible in the Middle East. This book is called the Old Testament. However, the character
named Satan in the Old Testament is not the Satan of today. There is no opposing evil force in the Old Testament and there was no Hell. In the
Old Testament Satan is an angel and God's servant. He exists to do God's bidding and has no real power of his own. He is the opposite of the
character we come to know in the following centuries. The concept of modern day evil Satan seems to stem from Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster
simplified things with his belief in one good god and one bad god. This created separation between good and evil. Zoroastrianism has influenced the
Jewish scriptures and this begins the creation of a different Satan from the one in the Old Testament. The concept of the Devil was also influenced by
the Greek Gods. One Greek God in

Lavey San Francisco Analysis
Satanism is a topic that has been misunderstood for many generations. Lavey is someone who started to do a church of satanism in San Francisco.
There has been many problems involving if Lavey, the maker of the church, should actually even have the church present in San Francisco. People were
against this due to the stereotypes and criticism they would get from the Christians, who would mainly criticize the satanic church views on beliefs and
religion. In reality the church of Satan does not only worship Satan, it can focus on your own beliefs in religion. Lavey gets his conflicts signing the
petition for gaining the public church of Satan from the catholic church and Christians. Lavey went into a compromise and talked with the meyer of San
Francisco to get permission to gain the church in the city that way he can have it shared with the public. The christians were against with that idea, but
Lavey tries to prove that it wasn't really necessary towards discriminating the world and worshiping Satan like how the Christians think. It focuses
mainly on benefiting themselves without causing any harm towards others who can oppose them.
Having religious freedom was part of the 1st amendment. Lavey took that for granted that way he can have the power to obtain the church of Satan in
San Francisco. There was a turning point in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Church Of Corinth: Chapter Summary
The first epistle to the Church of Corinth responds to major theological and moral issues among and confronted the Corinthians. In chapter five, Paul
informs them that it was reported to him that there is immorality among them that were dealt with. He instructs them to remove the person who
committed immoral sexual behavior from their midst (5:1–2). There are many mysterious words and phrases that Paul uses in this chapter, most
importantly, I Cor. 5: 5 "deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord". Many
questions arise in regard to the meaning of this text, some of them are: What it means to deliver a man to Satan? And what Paul meant by the
destruction of the flesh? The complexity of this verse made its interpretation controversial. Some scholars argue that it is an announcement of judgment
that results in death, while others believe that Paul commands the church of Corinth to excommunicate that person... Show more content on

Bruce suggests that the phrase "to deliver him to Satan" means an expulsion of the offender who committed sexual sin from the community that
confesses the lordship of Jesus Christ to the realm that was dominated by the Satan, the god of this world. Bruce states that Paul's language implies a
severe sentence than excommunication. He also explains that there are other instances in the Bible where people were delivered to Satan. For example,
Job was delivered to Satan, not by a way of punishment, but to vindicate him before God. However, Bruce demonstrates that the context of Corinthians
is different. He proceeds to say that the destruction of the flesh means suffering bodily death in order to secure eternal salvation to the offender. Bruce
refers to 1 Cor. 11:30 to support his argument that sickness and death are consequences of ecclesiastical misconduct. Furthermore, Bruce doubts that the
offender is the same person that Paul asked the Corinthians to restore to the church in 2 Cor.

Revelation 12 Research Paper
Israel, as the woman in Revelation 12, gives birth to the Messiah as Satan waits to destroy Him, but God protects the child–Messiah and raptures the
Church, while protecting the remnant of Israel in the wilderness for 1,260 days during the Great Tribulation. Under the terms of the old covenant,
Israel exists as a woman married to God, "For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The
God of the whole earth shall he be called" (Isaiah 54:5–6). Jeremiah describes a similar relationship between Israel and God, "Turn, O backsliding
children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you" (Jeremiah 3:14). Hosea 2:16 uses the word "Ishi" which means "my husband" to depict the
relationship... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens prior to the beginning of the 70th week of Daniel, which is why John mentions the woman (Israel) being protected for 1,260 days in
the wilderness. The woman is Israel protected in the wilderness of Edom, Moab and Ammon after the Rapture of the Church for 1,260 days, just
before the return of Christ to save Israel. Daniel 11:41 shows us that the Antichrist will not rule over Edom, Moab and Ammon, "He shall enter also

machiavelli Essay
The Church accused Niccolo Machiavelli of being Satan for writing his book The Prince. Machiavelli completed The Prince in 1513. He wrote it as a
gift to Lorenzo Medici, called the Magnificent, ruler of Florence. The political views Machiavelli expressed in his book went against the theology of
the Church, specifically the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes.
Machiavelli wrote to gain control of a principality one must be brutal. (I)f you are a prince in possession of a newly acquired state and deem it
necessary. . . to annihilate those who can or must attack you. .
. . , you must do so to protect your principality. He gave the example of Duke Valentino's slaying of his nobles to maintain order, saying if Valentino

The prince can pledge one thing under certain circumstances; but if those circumstances change, he is free to change his pledge if the change should
benefit his situation. For instance, Pope Alexander VI, who reigned before Machiavelli wrote The Prince, made promises more persuasively or swore
to them more solemnly and kept so few of them . . . .
Pope Alexander VI also got what he wanted by deceiving others. The Beatitudes say those who desire righteousness will be filled; those who are pure
of heart will see God. Righteousness and purity do not occur through deception. The ninth of the Ten Commandments says You shall not give false
testimony against your neighbor, meaning do not lie.
Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, says Do no break your oath . . . . The Church had good reason to disagree with Machiavelli about
craftiness. Nobility for princes can be seen as one of two ways: generous or parsimonious.
If a prince is generous, his generosity usually comes at the expense of his subjects. The prince would have to tax his people heavily in order to give.
This will begin to make him odious to his subjects and . . . will lose him the respect of everyone.
For a prince to give money, he need not tax his people, rather give what he pillaged and stole while on various campaigns. If a prince is stingy with the
peoples money, he will not tax as much; thus, his subjects will honor him

What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales
In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during this period of time. They were not that obvious
unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often symbolized in a certain character's and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue.
The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satan himself. Satan played a big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner,
and Summoned. IN the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as red face with big
whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book Chaucer says, "There was a Summoner with us in the place who had a
fire–red cherubinnish face" (Chaucer line 642). Not only that but he drinks and when he does , he doesn't care what is going on around him,
According to the text it says, " And drinking strong wine till all was hazy , then he would shout and jabber as if he's crazy" (Chaucer line 653). The
Summoner would also blackmail everyone because he knew everybody's secrets and would threaten to expose them if they didn't do what he would ask

and is always going to be there when someone need to be blessed, or needs advise, According to the text it says, "Who truly knew Christ's gospel and

The Differences Of The Church Of Satan And The Church Of...
The Church of Satan and the Church of Scientology are both new religious movements that share a fascination with the individual "self" in which they
place a lot of attention on this concept. I believe the reasoning for such a focus on the self is because conventional religion never emphasizes it. With
that being said, both L. Ron Hubbard and Anton Lavey went on to capitalize on this. They are two charismatic leaders, wanted followers and
therefore they tapped into an area that was never discovered before. New religious movements tend to focus more on areas where their previous
religion never touch on, or restricted people from thinking that. With that being said, these two leaders are suppose to add to people's lives and that
they did, although one seemed to care more about people's money. That would be L.Ron Hubbard a former Navy officer who was twice relieved of
duty for erratic behavior. This man is just difficult to get an understanding of his personality. While learning about L. Ron Hubbard it was clear that
this man is just looking for money. With program after program and books being pushed on to members to buy, it looked like he started this religion
because he needed a backup plan. It does not appear that the Church of Scientology really cares about its member's individual "self". And it is the
opposite of that with the Church of Satan with members are not given the runaround, they are told from the beginning to explore "self" for themselves
only.

Puritans And The Salem Witch Trials
Introduction
Puritans had many beliefs that affected the Salem Witch Trials, these were based on how the attendance or lack of attendance of the church, how
people should behave, social class, and the way the government should be handled. Puritans were English Protestants that came to America in 1630.
They sought to reform the Church of England. When they first came to America they settled atSalem, Massachusetts. The main reason the Puritan's
came to Salem was for freedom of religion which they did not have in England. The Puritans also came because they believed that the Church of
England was not religious or enforcing religion enough. Puritans were just like the Pilgrims. Years later the Salem Witch Trials started in 1692 and

Were influenced by the Bible, "the book of Exodus (22:18) says: 'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.'" (qtd. in Oster 216)
Puritans "encompassed to enjoy God's ordinance in prime purity" (Peterson 10)
Salem Village and Town When the Puritans first came to America, they settled in Salem, Massachusetts. In Salem there was a village and a town. The
richer would live in the town, as the less fortunate would live in the village. In the village ... in the town... Since the Puritans governed themselves,
they chose the laws and how to run the government. In the village and town going to church was one of the most important things to Puritans. It was
so important, that they would go to Church every single day. Anybody that would not attend church was frowned upon and was in fact illegal. Having
a church membership, however did have its benefits. The citizens of Salem that did attend church were able to vote. This caused for church members
to have a considerable amount of power and influence, they would practically run the church and decide everything. Since the Puritans established
Salem they decide all the rules, because they saw it as their "responsibility toward God" (Marlowe 29). This explains why they were so strict with their
lives and church. The government the Puritans ran had no religious freedom,

The devil is a supernatural being thought of by Christians...
The devil is a supernatural being thought of by Christians as an entity of pure evil. However, there is no evidence proving the existence of the devil,
but there are certainly testimonials of people who have claimed to see Hell. So lets hypothetically say that the devil is real. That would mean that the
horrifying testimonials are actually true, which may lead one to wonder why people call themselves Satanist. Contrary to what one might think,
Satanist do not actually believe that the devil is something of pure evil, nor do they view him as an actual person. Satanists view the devil as an

Even though structurally Satanists just like Protestants, were essentially a protest or a "rebellion against the Roman Catholic Church" (Shirley 1). This
doesn't mean that Satanist and Protestants share the same beliefs, because they are completely different; instead, it proves that both of the
religions is a example of rebellion There are many ways to rebel of course, but what seem to be on the news are murders'. A recent high school
dropout named Jose Reyes was on the news February 11th of this year. Jose was a high school dropout out who was using drugs such as marijuana.
From the start, Jose separated himself from all of his friends at school, which is a very antisocial thing to do. It is a proven fact that " Satanic
involvement" is linked to "antisocial behavior" (Swatos 161). However, before he dropped out, he already showed signs of rebellion. " Another
younger girl claims that Jose Reyes attacked her, and raped her" (lodhia 1). If Jose's parents would have stepped in at that point, it would have
prevented the second crime from occurring. Sadly, the parents' negligence of their own child only set the stage for what was about to happen. Jose
Reyes killed a fifteen–year–old girl with a buddy of his to "sell his soul to the devil" (Spellman 1). Not only did Jose kill her, but he "raped" the girl
and at the end of it all " an upside down cross was carved in her abdomen" (Spellman 1). Jose Reyes is a very sadistic twisted person who was very

The Choices Through Their Eyes
The choices through their eyes appears limited, either they suffer through by keeping the counterfeit smiles or divorce. The face of hurt has many
expressions flowing from the heart. Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) tells us, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." Did
"Church" the institution, push a mute button on all these families? All the signs of hurt were flowing from their hearts, but the signs were ignored by
leaders and love ones. Marriages, are taking the rivers of flowing hurt to the courts for answers.

In deteriorating circumstances, "all hands" are needed to combat the sudden changes a person may encounter.
Departing a marriage is compared to a death, the devil's job is to place the saints in a torture chamber and send his assigned spirits to attach themselves
to the targets. These spirits have many names like fear, rejection, depression, anger, lonesomeness, hurt, and shame. The changes marriages face, will
need trusted relationships to help unwelcome stressors. Sometimes when in crisis, your closest friends and family are sometimes insensitive to the
stress that comes with the circumstances. In some situations, a person may learn their situation is everyone's hot topic or they may lose sociability
with close friendships built as a couple. The family unit of both parties may be divided on situations. The conflict may place its family members in an
unexpected position which pressures them to pick sides. No one wants to pick sides in any trusted relationship. Outside stressors for the couple
sometimes are just as overwhelming as the domestic deterioration of the marriage itself.
It is not the fault of any church or the leaders, when marriages collapse because the Word of God clearly states, who we are fighting against. The

Rebellion in a Nutshell: The Plights of Satan, Will, and Lyra Normally, someone wouldn't be arguing that Satan was the hero of the story, or even good
in any sense of the word. Pullman's The Amber Spyglass and Milton's Paradise Lost share many similarities, but none were as striking as the view on
authoritarianism and eventual rebellion. In the first, The Amber Spyglass, Pullman shows the main characters Will and Lyra in a constant struggle
against the ruling authority, the church. In the second, Paradise Lost, Milton displays Satan in a never–ending battle for his own freedom from God's
ruling hand. In either story, the reader is made invested, but the two rebellions are not equal. In The Amber Spyglass, the main characters win against...

This quote comes about from the idea that God wanted the angels to worship Adam, but since Satan is senior to Adam, he feels wronged, and
refuses to bow down to man. God was not only displaying his own authority over all of the angel's lives, another knock to free will, but also
wanted to extend that authority to another being. Whether that being was Adam or the son, Satan didn't want anything to do with that proposition,
and as such rebelled along with other angels. God proves his omniscience in these instances, and also dominates over Satan, showing that the angel
has no free will of his own in these matters, and only plays into the hands of God. That said, he still at least tries to rebel, though it fails ultimately,
since it isn't feasible to call it successful if it was in the master's plans all along. On the side of the more successful Will and Lyra, there are
interesting points to touch on when it comes to their own rebellion. Anne Marie Robinson does a fantastic job at giving examples of the strange
relationship that people have to the church. When they were in the land of the dead, Robinson points out that, "One ghost is unwilling to consider
Lyra's offer; while still alive, he had believed in the salvation of heaven after death, and since he is dead he thinks he obviously must be in heaven. He

Tool Of The Devil: Comparing Satan in Paradise Lost and...
The devil, in literature, is always a catalyst of change for those who encounter him. He is a force working underground, moving against what is
widely considered virtuous and good, and it is contact with him that often changes the course of characters lives, and even the world. In Paradise
Lost and a book based on it, The Golden Compass, 'the devil', in both cases, is an advocate for moving away from the control of God and the Church.
Where the stories differ, is in the author's intent for these actions. In the former, John Milton uses the devil to display how vanity and pride are the sins
that halt us in an opportunity to live blissfully, with and under God. Philip Pullman, in his twist on Paradise Lost, The Golden Compass, claims that ...

"His splendor simply overrides our consciousness of his evil" (Werblowski, 12). The reader cannot help but be swept up by his fervor.
"We shall be free; th' Almighty hath not built Here for his envy, will not drive us hence: Here we may reign secure; and, in my choice, To reign is
worth ambition, though in Hell: Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven." (Milton, BK I, 259–263).
Lord Asriel also exudes a charisma and a determination that everyone who crosses his path cannot help but be moved by. Literary critic
Werblowsky claims Milton's Satan "is surrounded by an aura of majesty and power" (70, Werblowsky), which is the interpretation which Pullman
seems to directly draw from for his character. When his daughter, Lyra, observes him, she thinks, "Lord Asriel was a tall man with powerful
shoulders, a fierce dark face, and eyes that seemed to flash and glitter with savage laughter. It was a face to be dominated by, or to fight: never a face
to patronize or pity" (Pullman, 12).
The powerful difference in the two characters, lies in the fact that Lord Asriel's passions appear to be rooted to his core, and to be genuine, and
Satan's may be there only to mask his doubt and are the result of enormous pride. As a result of the latter, many critics often view Satan as an almost
comical character. His unparalleled vanity and

determine who would best be able to cope with, or cure the disease, or if it could be
cured at all. For instance, according to the ASAM addiction is a chronic disease. The
definition of chronic is "marked by long duration or frequent recurrence".
Therefore, one could conclude that addiction is not curable, but will recur over time.
The true definition would actually look at the root cause of any addiction. It
would make sense from a theological perspective that since sin is the root cause of
addiction, and sin can be cured, addiction, too, can be cured. The next step, of
course would be to test the hypothesis.
Ephesians 5:18 states "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled
with the Spirit". This verse determines that alcoholism would be sin because it goes
against the teaching "be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess". Paul tells the
church at Philippi in Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known to all men..."
One could conclude that moderation in all things preclude any type of addiction
which would be the exact opposite of moderation. One could go on to conclude,
therefore that addiction is sin.
Sin is curable. In fact, not only curable but sin has been purged (Heb 1:3). Satan
does not desire people to recognize this fact. If Satan can convince everyone that

The Catholic Church
A. Rationale and Preliminary Research I investigated Satan in the Catholic church; who he is and how he is described. I have a previous
knowledge of the Catholic faith because I used to attend mass as a child, and because most of my family is catholic and practicing. Satan is a very
popular symbol talked about in society, yet what is said does not seem very educated, so I wanted to learn more about who Catholicism states Satan is,
from the people who follow the faith.
Firstly, I researched the Catholic church broadly. I found a very dependable source from the official Vatican Church, The Holy See website, which had
the Catechism of the Catholic Church using scriptures. The source contained verses from the bible descripting Satan. This ... Show more content on

Finally, the final article is an online website of easy to find bible verses, called Bible Tools. I searched for Satan a Murderer to find bible verses
concerning that, and it also contains explanations of those verses coming from the Church of the Great God.
B. Plan for Study
This investigation will seek to examine how Satan is perceived in the adherents of the Catholic faith. The scope of this investigation will include how
Satan is described in Catholicism, by his different names. The plan will be to use different online sources that explain Satan. The Catholic faith has
specific names for Satan that will be researched and examined. The names tell how Catholics see Satan and how they view his actions. Many of the
online sources will be written by well–known adherents of the Catholic faith (two of Christian faith, but correspond to that of Catholic teachings.) The
sources researched and analyzed will explain how Satan is viewed in Catholicism, answering my research question.
C. Summary of Significant Findings In the beginning, Satan was created good by God and to be an angel, known as Lucifer. Satan led other angels
to turn against God to have more power over his kingdom. But, "the power of God will always triumph over that of Satan," (Saunders, Rev. William,
2003). So, God cast the demons and Satan to hell; also found that they were cast back to earth. "The reason the Son of God appeared was to

Madman Manson: Friends with The Devil
Don't drink, don't smoke, don't curse, don't kill and you will be accepted by God and relieved to Heaven, the ultimate utopia. Marilyn Manson,
America's devil–worshipping rock star clearly did not get the memo. Known for his most outrageous onstage acts and spiteful philosophies he
influenced the tragic Columbine school massacre with his wild, confronting music that preaches drugs, sex, violence and death involving innocent
slaughter and suicide. Manson is the true madman in this world who is continually on the hunt for teenagers' innocence creating an intense following
of young Satanists.
But underneath the pale, caked foundation and smudgy black eyeliner seems to be a person much like you and me; a person with real values and
visions he hopes may one day become reality. No, these values do not involve blood and gore as one might think. He merely plans to get married and
have a family of his own. Hard to believe for this shock rocker, I know! So why is it that we must dig to discover this softer side to Manson?
If we take a look at news headlines about Manson we see a very common trend. All–American nightmare (Dazed, Sep 2016), Marilyn Manson
Beheads Trump in NSFW Video (Pitchfork, Nov 2016), Piece of Sh*t Manson will Die Alone (Alternative Nation, Oct 2017). It is definitely safe to
say there's nothing going for Manson with these shocking, however, very attracting headlines. As an audience, we are always hungry for the latest

Salem Witch Trials And Trials
Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in the Salem Village of the 17th century New England.
The trials caused executions of many people but mostly women. Salem Witch Trials exposed the different roles men and women were supposed to
play during the seventeenth century. Women were supposed to take on "wifely duties" such as, be mothers and housewives. Women were thought to
follow the men. The trials also revealed that there were strict religious norms during the seventeenth century. There was a rigid moral code believed
that God would punish sinful behavior. Those who were under the covenant by the church of the Salem Village believed that Satan would select those

Women were not held to such a high standard as men. Men had a more prominent active duty in the church and in order to gain their membership they
needed to show their commitment to a congregation of people, while women could just make their consult in private. Although men and women still
had to have a testimony from a Brethren before they were fully admitted, it was clear that men and women were separated in the church as they were at
home.
Women did not get together with each other, they were required to stay inside along with female children and perform domestic duties. Some women
took them seriously and others did not. Those who did not take their roles seriously became a threat to others. Women who did not follow the gender
norms of the seventeenth century was considered more susceptible to accusations of witchcraft. If you were not being a wife or mother in the house, it
only left those to believe you were fulfilling the works of Satan (witchcraft). Women began to accuse other women of witchcraft. "Mary Lacey called
Burroughs the 'King of Hell' and Martha Carrier of Andover his Queen. She also names Cory and Nurse as Satan's two deacons" (Ray 88). Allegations
of witchcraft became wicked when women accused women of corrupting their children. Many women were accused of witchcraft, which continued.

Death Foretold Symbolism
How Garcia–Marquez Uses Characters as Symbols of Magical Realism Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia–Marquez holds a lot of
symbolic meaning regarding the bible and the Catholic church. During the time this book was written, the church faced with accusations regarding the
Father. Within the book, Gabriel Garcia–Marquez puts the bishop and the church to shame with all the symbolic references within the book. This paper
highlights the symbolic meanings using magical realism behind Santiago Nasar, his mother, the townspeople and Bayardo San Roman, and corruption
of the Catholic church using the bishop. First and foremost, as it is stated in the title of the book, a death has taken place, but it is not said that

To begin with, initially, Bayardo San Roman seemed to be the godlike figure when he just arrived to the town. All the townspeople seemed to be
distracted and swooned by him because he was a beautiful foreigner that seemed to be very wealthy and was capable of doing many things. "'It also
seems that he's swimming in gold.' That was in reply to the premature legend that Bayardo San Roman not only was capable of doing everything, and
doing it quite well, but also had access to endless resources" (Garcia–Marquez 16). Many of the people in the town are not of great wealth and are not
able to do what Bayardo San Roman can, and this goes in hand with the quote by Tucker Max, "...the devil doesn't come dressed in a red cape and
pointy horns. He comes as everything you've ever wished for..." (Max 567). The townspeople wish for what Bayardo has, and with this, he
influences them, either directly or indirectly, by making himself seem as the victim when he finds out that Angela is not a virgin. Satan has a way
of making himself be seen as someone of beauty and grace, and being someone that can manipulate the people around him, just like Bayardo did
with Xius. Bayardo finds a way to convince Xius, who would never give up his house because it reminded of his wife, to sell his house to Bayardo.

Satanism And Satanism
Goat Heads and Pentagrams When you think of Satanism, you might think of human sacrifices, or perhaps even chanting wildly around a fire
surrounded by enormous herds of people in an attempt to please Lucifer himself. Guess what, they don't. But on a serious note, have you ever thought
it might not be what you think it is? Maybe they are not as evil as society makes them out to be. I will be focusing most on the history and important
figures in the Satanic church, the symbols of satanism and their meanings, and, finally, some of the practices and beliefs of satanists. Possibly
knowing more about this religion will compel you to think a little different about its leaders and followers. The most notable Satanist would have
to be the creator of the whole thing, right? The first High Priest of the Satanic church was Anton Szandor LaVey. He was born in 1930 and passed
away at the age of 67 in 1997. Because he was most known for his creation of the Satanic church and the Satanic bible, he was also known by the
name "The Black Pope". He authored many other books as well. LaVey loved Gothic and horror literature, but occult literature he dismissed as
frauds and as "white magic". Since his world was filled with books, Anton LaVey naturally befriended authors such as Clark Smith, Robert Johnson,
and George Hass. He was known by friends and family to have a very "cynical" view on the world. If only here today to see what it has become. Anton
LaVey was also a very talented musician

Satanism Vs. Religion
When someone hears Satanism they usually start to think of sacrificial ceremonies, demonic worship, and the summoning of demons. Some even go as
far as to think that Satanism is associated with kidnapping, child sacrifice, and other inhumane rituals. Satanism was created to go against other
religions and was made to stand out, but is not violent and is misrepresented. The truth is that the Church of Satan has, falsely, taken the blame for these
unspeakable acts. As the official website for the Satanic Church put it, "Satanism is a life–loving, rational philosophy that millions of people adhere to."
(Church of Satan Archives) Satanism is more atheistic than religious. In fact it has actually been called the 'theatrical nonreligion.' (Peter H. Gilmore)
On April 30, 1966, Magus Anton Szandor LaVey created the Church of Satan. The Late High Priest, LaVey, created the Church of Satan to have

kidnapping, drug abuse, child molestation, animal or child sacrifice, or any number of other acts that idiots, hysterics or opportunists would like to
credit us with." (Church of Satan Archives) Satanism has been used by people as a reason to do criminal activities. Just like how terrorists have used
Islam to justify their acts. Also, similar to how the terrorists have been the loudest and only ones heard for Islam, criminals have been the loudest for
Satanism. This has lead to the misrepresentation of Satanism and explains why people are often given the wrong impression of Satanists. In
conclusion, Satanism is nearly an atheistic religion, Satanism has no god(s) and doesn't require worshipping Satan, and has been misrepresented in
society. Satanism is really a logical religion focused on enjoying

they are not going to change their hearts they will suffer throughout the tribulation wanting death but it shall elude them. Many will die because of the

In Paradise
Lost and a book based on it, The Golden Compass, В‘the devil', in both cases, is an advocate for moving away from the control of God and the
Church. Where the stories differ, is in the author's intent for these actions. In the former, John Milton uses the devil to display how vanity and pride are
the sins that halt us in an opportunity to live blissfully, with and under God. Philip Pullman, in his twist on Paradise Lost, The Golden Compass, claims

prose works that he believed everything detestable to be, in the long run, also ridiculous" ( CS Lewis XIII 95). As Milton was a devoutly religious
man, it is possible to see how Satan's attempts to overthrow God would be so offensive, they would become absurd. Pullman, on the other hand,
writes Lord Asriel with not the slightest trace of humor within his character. He is a dark, deceptive man, whose arrogance concerning himself and his
beliefs have resulted in a man who knows no boundaries. Even his own daughter, is frightened and chilled by his infinite drive.
"Her father was lying back in his chair, lazy and powerful, his eyes as fierce as his daemon's. She didn't love him, she couldn't trust him, but she had to
admire him, and the extravagant luxury he'd assembled in his desolate wasteland, and the power of his ambition" (Pullman, 330).
Lord Asriel, while not technically "the Devil" by any means, becomes a more chilling character, as his passion is unwavering and he holds his views
with the utmost importance. It is through the exploitation of innocence and ignorance that Satan and Lord Asriel achieve their goals. They

Eschatology has significant implications on how I understand the ways in which God will finish his redemptive work. Furthermore, eschatology sheds
light on the Kingdom of God, which Christ came to inaugurate. As a result of these convictions, I have chosen to write a paper discussing the
amillennial position. I will primarily be discussing this position in light of Revelation 20:1–6 and will use other key passages to rightly interpret what I
see in this text.
At this point in my studies I'm leaning towards the amillennial view with an understanding that Satan is bound through the death and resurrection of
Christ, is currently prevented from ultimately deceiving the nations, and cannot hinder the spread of the gospel. I believe that we currently live in the
church age and at the end of this present age, Satan will be let loose for a final battle against the church of Jesus Christ. Christ will then return and
judge all of his enemies and the promised new creation will become reality– where his people will bodily reign with him even as they are currently
seated with him spiritually. It is my goal now to unpack these convictions and explain why I'm leaning towards the amillennial position.
The Kingdom
Andrew Hoekema possibly best defines the Kingdom as, "the reign of God dynamically active in human history through Jesus Christ, the purpose of
which is the redemption of God's people from sin and from demonic powers, and the final

The Nine Satanic Beliefs
Satanists are Atheists with humanist philosophies. Members of the Church of Satan believe that all gods were created by man. So their belief is, by
worshiping these invented gods, religious folk actually worship human inventors. The Church's belief is that we, as humans, are responsible for
ourselves and not to a god. Members value characteristics such as pride, liberty, and other human traits that some religions consider inappropriate. The
Church aims to end the clash between religious policies and natural inclinations so that members can live without guilt for doing these human instincts
and desires.
The Church of Satan was founded in 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey. The religion began in San Francisco and, over time, spread throughout the entire...

This means that responsibility and trust will go to those who are responsibility instead of going to leeches who abuse their power. Leaders are
determined, not by titles, but by their actions and accomplishments. Real power and responsibility should be given to those who can wield it and not to
those who just demand it.
The seventh statement is, Satan represents man as just another animal. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, sometimes not
better than those that walk on all–fours. Elevating the human species as instantly superior to other animals is just blatant self–deceit. While our
intellect as allowed us to accomplish fantastic things, which should be appreciated, it can also be credited with terrible acts of cruelty throughout our
history.
The eighth statement is, Satan represents all of the so–called sins. This means that all the so–called sins, that lead to physical, mental, or emotional
gratification, that breaks a moral or religious law, aren't actually bad and Satanism is strictly against following such herding. When a Satanist avoids
a certain action, it is because of personal, concrete, reasons. Not because the bigger groups deem it bad. And when a Satanist realizes and action that
they indulged on is wrong, the response they are supposed to have is to accept what they did is wrong, learn from it, and not do it again instead of

As for my understanding of the angels, demons, and satan, I believe that all three are powerful forces, found within a realm that humans cannot truly

believe that angels are sent to us, by God to protect us from the evil that comes from satan and his minions and that they can make themselves visible to
whom God chooses to. As for my stance on the redemption of the devil, I still do not feel I know enough on the doctrine to make a final judgement.

For the believer, it is important to be aware of the beliefs around you and to be careful of what you adapt into your own theology. As said before
the Jewish people adapted some ideas of the devil, angels and demons from the beliefs of the cultures surrounding them. It is also important to not
allow the idea of angels to overpower the true reason we are here, on this earth, and have the pleasure in knowing in creatures such as angels. For
the church I feel it is important to also to keep in mind the influence culture may be having on the belief of demons, satan and angels. Again like I
said earlier, we live in a culture that finds these things more appealing than, I personally feel we should. I believe the church needs to be mindful of
the fact that possessions are real, and that in some cases an exorcism may need to be performed to cure the possessed. Having a member on staff that
is trained to do this properly is important, not only for the one who is possessed, but for the church

Model Of Atonement
2.The first model of atonement by the Church is the Christus Victor model, or the Satan model. This model has three figures in it and they are God,
Satan, and humanity. There are two versions of this model. The ransom version and the cosmic battle version. With the ransom version Satan has
control over humanity, and all of their souls. God has to offer a ransom in order to free humankinds souls. God makes the deal of handing over Jesus as
a ransom payment to free the souls, and Satan proceeds to kill Jesus taking it as a victory. Jesus then is resurrected allowing the return to God and the
victory for Christ. The souls of humanity are freed, and Jesus is still alive. It leaves the Satan with nothing, and God with everything making Him the ...

This is a model of non–violence, shows that atonement does not rely on punishment, and Jesus is not a weak passive character. The symbols of
God, Jesus, Satan, or humanity being taken in a worldlier view that can provide a direct connection. This is a interpretation to the cosmic battle
where the main characters are metaphorically interpreted. Jesus was not this passive character, He was an activist trying to make the Kingdom of
God visible to humanity. An example is the Roman Empire. The Roman Empire is Satan. They are a force that has a lot of power and control, but
do not recognize God as the true power of the universe. They are fighting to take control of the world, and declare themselves kings and gods. They
are not being humble and thanking God, and putting their success in Him. In this case the Church is the representation of God. The Roman Empire
does not recognize the Church as the true power, and try to act without the Church on their side. Jesus is sent as the embodiment of the Kingdom of
God. He is sent to spread God's message, and show people the light. Jesus is still put to death in this scenario, but it means something different. Jesus
us spreading a message against the Roman Empire, and talking about a power that is greater than them. They are afraid of what Jesus is saying, and
the following that is starting, and Jesus is put to death because the Romans oppose the message. The

If you looked at him once, you'd think he was a Charon, if you looked twice, you'd see Anton LaVey.

I shook my head with pleased confusion and decided to move on to the next basket. However, just as I was doing so a hard knock came from the door.
"Coming!" I exclaim as I put down a CD I was about to pop into the television.
I open the door to come face to face with a curly haired man. He looked like he was in his early 30's, but if you really paid attention to the bags

Satan is working in the life of a man that married his father's wife (incest, v.1). When Satan brings a person down, he is not satisfied in stopping there
but goes about to bring as much destruction as possible. In the Corinthian church, he is working with the church members, as they seem to accept this
sin, rather than excommunicate him from the church. Though Biblical, most churches today do not practice church discipline. The Apostle Paul,
though not there in body, but present in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He and his devils are very active in the lives of Muhammad followers, Masons, Satanists, Jehovah Witnesses, Catholics, and many other gods. In
America Christian freedom, rights and liberties are constantly under attack and being taken away, yet we are to stand and guard against devils not
only in America but around the world. Christians are being slaughtered for their stand. When there are shootings in our schools, churches, and public
places, it is the Christians being sought out. Babies are being killed in record numbers by doctors in abortion clinics with laws backing this practice,
with women saying they have a right to their bodies and their babies have no right to life. A right is something not wrong, and while they may have
the liberty, they do not have the right to take lives. Everywhere you turn you can see devils working in the lives of mankind. Christians are to stand
against devils by putting on the whole armour of God, to be strong in the Lord, not weaklings or babies, but soldiers of the Lord. Folks are to

Richard Ramirez As A Serial Killer
"We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And there will be more of your children dead tomorrow." This quote was
said by Ted Bundy, and it explains how anybody can turn out to be a serial killer. A serial killer's childhood environment plays a major role in why
they became a serial killer. Nurture often plays a bigger role in somebody becoming a serial killer, rather than their nature. This statement can be
proven by looking at Richard Ramirez's life, and how it shaped him into becoming a serial killer. Richard Ramirez snuck into people's homes in
California at night and killed them. There are many factors that lead Richard Ramirez to become a serial killer, the main factors include his cousin,
parents, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mike, his cousin, was a Vietnam war veteran and he told Richard a lot of gory stories for the war. Mike Ramirez told Richard about how he had
raped and mutilated many Vietnamese women and showed Richard polaroid pictures of his victims. Mike would also give Richard marijuana at a
young age and would help Richard skip school. Mike also taught Richard how to fire a gun and Richard even watched Mike kill his own wife. One day
Mike's wife, Jessie, was complaining to Mike about how he needed to get a job, and he shot her in the face. Richard Ramirez just stood and
watched while Jessie was killed. All of these things Mike did had a huge psychological impact on Richard Ramirez. Mike taught Richard that it was
alright to hurt and kill people. Richard was not born with the sense that killing people was socially acceptable. He learned this by watching Mike kill
his wife and listening to Mike's stories about hurting women. This further shows that Richard Ramirez's nurture drove him to become a serial killer.
Furthermore, growing up poor also contributed to Richard Ramirez becoming a serial killer. Richard was surrounded by drugs because of where he
lived in Texas. Richard starting smoking marijuana as a 10–year–old and he started doing LSD as a teenager. Richard was sent to live with his older
sister, Ruth, and her husband. Roberto, Ruth's husband, would take Richard to watch women through their windows at night. This experience is what
probably led to Richard Ramirez

Revelation Is Sealed And Closed From Understanding Its...
Most people believe that the book of Revelation is sealed and closed from understanding its context. It is often called a mysterious book without
meaning, and frequently brings confusion to others. Yet this book contains important, vital meanings that will correlate to what might happen in our
lifetime, such as the coming of the Antichrist, multiple beasts, visions, plagues, wars, and much more. The book of Revelation is filled with truths and
answers to the questions that relate to the end times. With the prophecy of Daniel and the words of John and Jesus, it gives us a clear description on
what will come in the end of times. You will be fascinated–even captivated–by the simplicity of what can be known from this book of Revelation.
Events are building to a concluding conclusion–and a marvelous climax! The time is closer than you think and it is important to know and understand
what lies ahead. And as the church of Christ, it is important that we should be aware of the warnings and prophecy that is given to us. The visions in
the book of Daniel resemble that of John's in the book of Revelation. Between the two books, it gives a clearer description of the events that will take
place when the events of Revelation will happen. John writes Revelation to encourage the faithful to staunchly resist the Antichrist amid tribulation. He
informs his readers that the final showdown between God and Satan is imminent. Satan will increase his persecution of believers, but they must stand

Satan's Role In Ancient Polytheistic Religion
First of all, there is the fact that, because Satan is not associated to one particular element considered evil, such as darkness, death or droughts, but
rather to all the evils that exist, he can change and evolve with time. Since he created indirect evil, depending on which group is being studied, such as
Christians for example, there will always be another group to consider different and satanic, be it the Romans, the Muslims, the Atheists or even other
Christians. No matter the time in history, there will always be a new event, a new group, or a new element to demonize.
The fact that Satan is able to evolve in such a way helps him remain relevant throughout history. The similar figures discussed at the beginning came
from polytheistic religions, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Canaan, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, so they had a single specific function for which they
existed. This meant they could be easily replaced by another deity with the same role, and so they'd be either forgotten and lost in history, or
remember only as an old, dead God. This is most notably shown in the fact there were four different Gods used as an example to discuss similar "evil"
figures in ancient polytheistic religions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a matter of fact, there is not a single, strict and definite way that Satan can be described. He is obviously known by many names; Lucifer,
Beelzebub, The Devil, Prince of Darkness, Father of Lies, Evil One...these are all different titles given to Satan, yet they all don't necessarily mean the
same thing. Different groups can hence take the overall main idea of Satan and the function he fulfills in the world, and adapt him to fill that same
role, but in accordance to their own beliefs. This simply comes to show just how versatile Satan really

Satanism Essay

  • 1. Satanism Essay Abstract Satanism is a blatantly, selfish, brutal religion. There are millions of Satanists worldwide. The occult is on the rise because young people are seeking their identity through what Satanism offers. Anton Szandor LaVey the creator of the Church of Satan believes in attitudes that are ungodly, controversial, unethical, immoral, and perversive as evidenced by the present society. Satanism The content of this paper is intended to relay information about Satanism. A brief history of Satanism, the definition of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sections of Ephesians 6:10–17 say, "Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against devil's schemes for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." It is also clear that the everlasting battle between evil and good exists as evidenced by tragedy, and suffering in the world. In Revelation 20:10– it is understood that it will take a long time for Satan to be destroyed (http://www.truthortradition.com). Satanism is defined as a small minority religion. The followers were different groups of people who were Gothic, Religious or Satanic dabblers. The Gothic Satanists were belief to date back to the middle ages to fables about "Witches". Women were believed to worship Satan and submit their lives to him by kidnapping and killing babies. They harmed others using curses and black magic. The Religious Satanists were adults who worshipped a pre–Christian deity Set. They were atheists and agnostics who saw Satan as a symbol of power. The Satanic Dabblers are typically rebellious teenagers who created their own black magic. They performed rituals and were responsible for graffiti on buildings and sacrificing small animals (http:/ /www.religiousintolerance.org.) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Exemplification Essay: Separation of Church and State Because of my strong beliefs, I have been called the Antichrist, a witch, an atheist, and a Satanist. Fervent Christians have told me that my "kind" is solely responsible for the downfall of American morals. Actually, none of these labels fits me. I am not a witch because the only modern religion to practice witchcraft is Wicca (American Heritage 1381), and I am not a Wiccan. I am not a Satanist because modern Satanists do not believe in Satan as an actual entity; instead, they follow a "religion of the self," as the founder of the Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, put it. (LaVey 1) Satanists also belong to an organization such as theChurch of Satan or the Temple of Set, and I do not belong to any such organization. I do not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In practice, however, this is not the case. Many laws and governmental practices impose the morality of a group of people on the people in general. For instance, "blue laws," which are slowly disappearing from the law books of cities and counties across the United States, are passed to keep people from doing business on Sunday, in order to preserve the observance of the Sabbath. (Blue Laws 13–5) Until it is proven that young children or other members of society are harmed by what consenting adults do behind closed doors, any law prohibiting sexual acts between those consenting adults can only have a religious motivation. Similarly, tax breaks for married couples that are not given to non–married couples living together are religiously motivated, and the tax–exempt status of churches also blurs the line between Church and State. If churches are tax exempt because they provide guidance and spirituality in people's lives, then 1–900 psychic lines should also be tax exempt businesses; if churches are exempt only because they provide people with something to do on Sundays, then movie theaters should be tax exempt also. One common justification that people, such as Pat Buchanan, who attempt to legislate Christianity use is that the founding fathers of our country were Christian, so the Declaration of Independence and ... • 3. Satan, Beelzebub, El Diablo And The Old And New Testament Lucifer, Beelzebub, El Diablo, all of these are names for the same Evil One most commonly known as Satan. While most religions have a dark being or devil–type character, the most prominent and widely recognized to be true is the Judeo–Christian Satan who appears in both the Old and New Testament. The modern understanding ofSatan is a slightly misguided and deviant from the truth as most churches are hesitant to preach about the prince of darkness and the secular world romanticizes the idea of the devil. Through the lens of the New Testament of the bible, this essay will unpack; most of what is generally known about Satan, what he does, some misconceptions, and how he is seen by popular culture and the church. To begin to understand what the devil does and what the world thinks of him it is important to first find out who he is and if he is even real. While the bible does not often speak of his origins it does give some insight in Isaiah 14:12–15, " You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit." Satan was God's right hand angel and then he tried to exalt himself to the same level as God and in turn got cast out of heaven along with his followers, one third of the angels. • 4. Cult Research Paper The word cult is defined as an alternative religion. Most cults are started because someone doesn't like the way the world is, and feels that his/her church isn't doing anything to make it better, so they leave and create what they believe to be the perfect religion. Then this person strives to make others believe as they do so they will join (Miller, 1991, p. 15). There are somewhere around 3,000 to 5,000 of these cults throughout the United States, but only 75 to 100 are documented (Miller, 1991, p. 15–16). Satanism is the oldest form of such cults. A few other commonly known cults are Reverend Jim Jones and the People Temple, Heavens Gate, and Charles Manson and the Family. In the early 20th century, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1977 Jones was forced to move his church to a secluded jungle in Guyana, South America. There he created Jonestown (Cults R Us, 2000, September 27, p. 1). In 1978, Leo Ryan went to Jonestown on a fact–finding investigation. After being there for only one day, a member tried to stab him. When Ryan tried to leave the compound, members of the church shot at his plane and killed him. A few hours after this incident, Jones made all the members drink grape–flavored Fla–Vor–Aid that was laced with potassium cyanide and tranquilizers. All members did so, some by force, and most died. Surviving members later committed suicide (Cults R Us, 2000, September 27, p. 1). Many people believe that Jim was involved with the CIA, and that Jonestown was just a mind control experiment. Later Henry Lee, a known serial killer, said he was the one who delivered the cyanide to Jones (Cults R Us, 2000,September 27, p. 1). One of the more recently publicized cults is Heavens Gate. Heavens Gate was the only known "doomsday–cult–web–design–team". On March 26, 1997, they believed there would be a space ship hiding in the tail of the Hale–Bopp comet, and it would come and take them to their "mother planet". This caused a mass suicide of 21 women, and 18 men. • 5. The Devil Is The Embodiment Of Evil The Devil or Lucifer is arguably one of the most famous figures in existence. He is considered the Prince of Darkness and is supposed to be the embodiment of evil. However, our perception of the Devil has changed drastically over the centuries. "Satan" can mean something very different depending on the person. Some see the Devil as their god or a hero and others seem him as a symbol of all that is wicked. Some may view the Devil as nothing, but a joke and others believe he is as real as the rest of us. The concept of "the Devil" continues to evolve. The first mention of the Devil or Satan rather dates back to the first chapters of the Hebrew Bible in the Middle East. This book is called the Old Testament. However, the character named Satan in the Old Testament is not the Satan of today. There is no opposing evil force in the Old Testament and there was no Hell. In the Old Testament Satan is an angel and God's servant. He exists to do God's bidding and has no real power of his own. He is the opposite of the character we come to know in the following centuries. The concept of modern day evil Satan seems to stem from Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster simplified things with his belief in one good god and one bad god. This created separation between good and evil. Zoroastrianism has influenced the Jewish scriptures and this begins the creation of a different Satan from the one in the Old Testament. The concept of the Devil was also influenced by the Greek Gods. One Greek God in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lavey San Francisco Analysis Satanism is a topic that has been misunderstood for many generations. Lavey is someone who started to do a church of satanism in San Francisco. There has been many problems involving if Lavey, the maker of the church, should actually even have the church present in San Francisco. People were against this due to the stereotypes and criticism they would get from the Christians, who would mainly criticize the satanic church views on beliefs and religion. In reality the church of Satan does not only worship Satan, it can focus on your own beliefs in religion. Lavey gets his conflicts signing the petition for gaining the public church of Satan from the catholic church and Christians. Lavey went into a compromise and talked with the meyer of San Francisco to get permission to gain the church in the city that way he can have it shared with the public. The christians were against with that idea, but Lavey tries to prove that it wasn't really necessary towards discriminating the world and worshiping Satan like how the Christians think. • 7. Church Of Corinth: Chapter Summary The first epistle to the Church of Corinth responds to major theological and moral issues among and confronted the Corinthians. In chapter five, Paul informs them that it was reported to him that there is immorality among them that were dealt with. He instructs them to remove the person who committed immoral sexual behavior from their midst (5:1–2). There are many mysterious words and phrases that Paul uses in this chapter, most importantly, I Cor. 5: 5 "deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord". Many questions arise in regard to the meaning of this text, some of them are: What it means to deliver a man to Satan? And what Paul meant by the destruction of the flesh? The complexity of this verse made its interpretation controversial. Some scholars argue that it is an announcement of judgment that results in death, while others believe that Paul commands the church of Corinth to excommunicate that person... Bruce suggests that the phrase "to deliver him to Satan" means an expulsion of the offender who committed sexual sin from the community that confesses the lordship of Jesus Christ to the realm that was dominated by the Satan, the god of this world. Bruce states that Paul's language implies a severe sentence than excommunication. He also explains that there are other instances in the Bible where people were delivered to Satan. For example, Job was delivered to Satan, not by a way of punishment, but to vindicate him before God. However, Bruce demonstrates that the context of Corinthians is different. He proceeds to say that the destruction of the flesh means suffering bodily death in order to secure eternal salvation to the offender. Bruce refers to 1 Cor. 11:30 to support his argument that sickness and death are consequences of ecclesiastical misconduct. Furthermore, Bruce doubts that the offender is the same person that Paul asked the Corinthians to restore to the church in 2 Cor. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Under the terms of the old covenant, Israel exists as a woman married to God, "For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called" (Isaiah 54:5–6). He wrote it as a gift to Lorenzo Medici, called the Magnificent, ruler of Florence. The political views Machiavelli expressed in his book went against the theology of the Church, specifically the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. Machiavelli wrote to gain control of a principality one must be brutal. (I)f you are a prince in possession of a newly acquired state and deem it necessary. . . to annihilate those who can or must attack you. . . . , you must do so to protect your principality. The prince can pledge one thing under certain circumstances; but if those circumstances change, he is free to change his pledge if the change should benefit his situation. For instance, Pope Alexander VI, who reigned before Machiavelli wrote The Prince, made promises more persuasively or swore to them more solemnly and kept so few of them . . . . Pope Alexander VI also got what he wanted by deceiving others. The Beatitudes say those who desire righteousness will be filled; those who are pure of heart will see God. Righteousness and purity do not occur through deception. The ninth of the Ten Commandments says You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor, meaning do not lie. Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, says Do no break your oath . . . . The Church had good reason to disagree with Machiavelli about craftiness. If a prince is stingy with the peoples money, he will not tax as much; thus, his subjects will honor him

The Church of Satan and the Church of Scientology are both new religious movements that share a fascination with the individual "self" in which they place a lot of attention on this concept. I believe the reasoning for such a focus on the self is because conventional religion never emphasizes it. With that being said, both L. Ron Hubbard and Anton Lavey went on to capitalize on this. They are two charismatic leaders, wanted followers and therefore they tapped into an area that was never discovered before. New religious movements tend to focus more on areas where their previous religion never touch on, or restricted people from thinking that. With that being said, these two leaders are suppose to add to people's lives and that they did, although one seemed to care more about people's money. That would be L.Ron Hubbard a former Navy officer who was twice relieved of duty for erratic behavior. This man is just difficult to get an understanding of his personality. While learning about L. Ron Hubbard it was clear that this man is just looking for money. With program after program and books being pushed on to members to buy, it looked like he started this religion because he needed a backup plan. It does not appear that the Church of Scientology really cares about its member's individual "self". In the first, The Amber Spyglass, Pullman shows the main characters Will and Lyra in a constant struggle against the ruling authority, the church. This quote comes about from the idea that God wanted the angels to worship Adam, but since Satan is senior to Adam, he feels wronged, and refuses to bow down to man. God was not only displaying his own authority over all of the angel's lives, another knock to free will, but also wanted to extend that authority to another being. Whether that being was Adam or the son, Satan didn't want anything to do with that proposition, and as such rebelled along with other angels. God proves his omniscience in these instances, and also dominates over Satan, showing that the angel has no free will of his own in these matters, and only plays into the hands of God. That said, he still at least tries to rebel, though it fails ultimately, since it isn't feasible to call it successful if it was in the master's plans all along. On the side of the more successful Will and Lyra, there are interesting points to touch on when it comes to their own rebellion. Anne Marie Robinson does a fantastic job at giving examples of the strange relationship that people have to the church. When they were in the land of the dead, Robinson points out that, "One ghost is unwilling to consider Lyra's offer; while still alive, he had believed in the salvation of heaven after death, and since he is dead he thinks he obviously must be in heaven. He is a force working underground, moving against what is widely considered virtuous and good, and it is contact with him that often changes the course of characters lives, and even the world. In Paradise Lost and a book based on it, The Golden Compass, 'the devil', in both cases, is an advocate for moving away from the control of God and the Church. Where the stories differ, is in the author's intent for these actions. (Milton, BK I, 259–263). Lord Asriel also exudes a charisma and a determination that everyone who crosses his path cannot help but be moved by. Literary critic Werblowsky claims Milton's Satan "is surrounded by an aura of majesty and power" (70, Werblowsky), which is the interpretation which Pullman seems to directly draw from for his character. • 20. Therefore, one could conclude that addiction is not curable, but will recur over time. The true definition would actually look at the root cause of any addiction. It would make sense from a theological perspective that since sin is the root cause of addiction, and sin can be cured, addiction, too, can be cured. The next step, of course would be to test the hypothesis. Ephesians 5:18 states "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit". This verse determines that alcoholism would be sin because it goes against the teaching "be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess". Paul tells the church at Philippi in Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known to all men..." • 26. Satanism Vs. Religion When someone hears Satanism they usually start to think of sacrificial ceremonies, demonic worship, and the summoning of demons. Some even go as far as to think that Satanism is associated with kidnapping, child sacrifice, and other inhumane rituals. Satanism was created to go against other religions and was made to stand out, but is not violent and is misrepresented. The truth is that the Church of Satan has, falsely, taken the blame for these unspeakable acts. As the official website for the Satanic Church put it, "Satanism is a life–loving, rational philosophy that millions of people adhere to." (Church of Satan Archives) Satanism is more atheistic than religious. In fact it has actually been called the 'theatrical nonreligion.' (Peter H. Gilmore) On April 30, 1966, Magus Anton Szandor LaVey created the Church of Satan. The Late High Priest, LaVey, created the Church of Satan to have something openly... (Church of Satan Archives) Satanism has been used by people as a reason to do criminal activities. Just like how terrorists have used Islam to justify their acts. Also, similar to how the terrorists have been the loudest and only ones heard for Islam, criminals have been the loudest for Satanism. This has lead to the misrepresentation of Satanism and explains why people are often given the wrong impression of Satanists. • 29. Tool of the Devil: Comparing Satan in Paradise Lost and... The devil, in literature, is always a catalyst of change for those who encounter him. He is a force working underground, moving against what is widely considered virtuous and good, and it is contact with him that often changes the course of characters lives, and even the world. In Paradise Lost and a book based on it, The Golden Compass, В‘the devil', in both cases, is an advocate for moving away from the control of God and the Church. Where the stories differ, is in the author's intent for these actions. In the former, John Milton uses the devil to display how vanity and pride are the sins that halt us in an opportunity to live blissfully, with and under God. He battles "exalted as a God, ThВ‘ Apostate in his sun–bright chariot sat, Idol of majesty divine" (Milton, BK VI, 99–101). Lewis also claims that Milton wrote Satan to be intentionally skimming the edge of farce as "we know from his prose works that he believed everything detestable to be, in the long run, also ridiculous" ( CS Lewis XIII 95). As Milton was a devoutly religious man, it is possible to see how Satan's attempts to overthrow God would be so offensive, they would become absurd. Pullman, on the other hand, writes Lord Asriel with not the slightest trace of humor within his character. He is a dark, deceptive man, whose arrogance concerning himself and his beliefs have resulted in a man who knows no boundaries. Even his own daughter, is frightened and chilled by his infinite drive. "Her father was lying back in his chair, lazy and powerful, his eyes as fierce as his daemon's. She didn't love him, she couldn't trust him, but she had to admire him, and the extravagant luxury he'd assembled in his desolate wasteland, and the power of his ambition" (Pullman, 330). The Different Gender Roles In The Salem Witch Trials Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in the Salem Village of the 17th century New England. The trials caused executions of many people, mostly women. Salem Witch Trials exposed the different gender roles during the seventeenth century. Women were supposed to take on "wifely duties" such as, be mothers and housewives. Women were taught to follow the men. There were strict religious norms during the seventeenth century. There was rigid moral code believed that God would punish sinful behavior. Those who were under the covenant by the church of the Salem Village believed that Satan would select those to fulfill his work and those who followed Satan were considered witches. Witchcraft was considered a punishable crime. Salem Witch Trials revealed that gender played a role for the accused and accusers. The trials also revealed that one's relationship with God will set deliverance from Satan's attacks. Salem Witch Trials demonstrated how rumors, jealousy, and the idea of male dominance affected people of the Salem Village. Seventeenth Century America revealed there was male dominance over women. Men were in charge of the Church. Samuel Parris was the ordained minister of the church. Parris was appointed to bring God back to the Salem Village. At this point in my studies I'm leaning towards the amillennial view with an understanding that Satan is bound through the death and resurrection of Christ, is currently prevented from ultimately deceiving the nations, and cannot hinder the spread of the gospel. • 44. Satan's Role In Ancient Polytheistic Religion First of all, there is the fact that, because Satan is not associated to one particular element considered evil, such as darkness, death or droughts, but rather to all the evils that exist, he can change and evolve with time. Since he created indirect evil, depending on which group is being studied, such as Christians for example, there will always be another group to consider different and satanic, be it the Romans, the Muslims, the Atheists or even other Christians. No matter the time in history, there will always be a new event, a new group, or a new element to demonize. The fact that Satan is able to evolve in such a way helps him remain relevant throughout history. The similar figures discussed at the beginning came from polytheistic religions, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Canaan, Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, so they had a single specific function for which they existed. This meant they could be easily replaced by another deity with the same role, and so they'd be either forgotten and lost in history, or remember only as an old, dead God.
