Banquo Character Analysis
How Banquo is a foil to Macbeth
A foil's purpose in literature is to provide contrast and advance the protagonist's character in way
that spurs the protagonist into action. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how Banquo is
a direct foil to Macbeth and how Banquo's presence in the play also develops Macbeth's character.
Throughout the play Macbeth and Banquo characters are contrasted on many different occasions, for
example the witches' prophecies and how they both react to them, their specific character traits, and
lastly their relationship and how to degrades throughout the play. Shakespeare presents these two
characters as complete opposites, which gives the audience a chance to connect with Macbeth as his
character advances through the plot and in character.
The differences and similarities in personality between Macbeth and Banquo are apparent from Act
1 but Shakespeare uses their differences as a way to establish both of them, as separate characters.
In the third scene of the play, the witches first appear to Macbeth and Banquo, and as of now the
contrast between Banquo and Macbeth are beginning to be unravel. This is shown through
Macbeth's and Banquo's reaction to the witches prophecy, "Things that do sound so fair? I' the name
of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/Which outwardly ye show? My noble partner/You greet
with present grace and great prediction/Of noble having and of royal hope,/That he seems rapt
withal: to me you speak not."(1.3.54–60).
Shakespeare uses Banquo to highlight the fact that Macbeth is "Rapt withal", Macbeth is very
gullible and takes things at face value and he begins to think of the witches' statements as
providence rather than prophecy. Shortly after, during his aside he state that he will leave it to
chance but the seeds of ambition are already beginning to grow in his mind due to these prophecies.
Also, the quote "to me you speak not" shows that Banquo, contrasting heavily from Macbeth, is
rather unfazed by these prophecies. This also furthers their character's differences, in the sense that
Macbeth is more easily persuaded and not questioning anything, while Banquo is more down to earth
and is taking the witches words

Character Analysis Essay
Stephan Attilus English 2 Honors Ms. Gaddis Character Analysis Essay In past times, many
African tribes and regions have been colonized by European countries. England, France, Portugal,
and Spain were all looking to spread their influences and find good to trade. At first the Africans
were curious when they saw these white men because the only white person they had seen was
Albinos. There were many different reactions to these foreigners. Some African welcomed them
into their villages while other worried that they were dangerous. In Chinua Achebe's novel Things
Fall Apart Okonkwo, a clansman of Umoufia, is one of the worried people. Forced into exile for

had more converts and brought a government to Umoufia. In chapter 22 it says that they had built a

was to colonize the Africans but the Africans have no clue. Enoch, son of the snake priest and a
Christian, is the reason why "things fall apart". One the greatest if not the greatest crime in Umoufia

Enoch did. Later on the, the leaders of Umoufia were taken to the DC (district commissioner).

Jane Eyre Character Analysis
Jane Eyre is one of many characters in literature that readers can show true empathy to. She is an
honorable woman, humble and courageous, kind but strong–willed. While many stories rely on
imperfect lead protagonists who fail in order to relate to the downtrodden nature of the human
condition, Jane is altogether different. She appeals to the nobler parts of one's self, a part that is
equally common to everyone, but by which one is rarely reminded of. Jane Eyre written by Charlotte
BrontГ« demonstrates that only when people experience difficulties in their life do they find their
true selves.
Jane Eyre's endurance in the face of physical and psychological difficulties reveals much about the
human condition of perseverance. Jane is...show more content...
Because Jane perseveres through a societal situation where she is not only belittled by her aunt but
also destined to be disposable to men, she develops the ability to fight abruptly for what she
believes in at all times. To start off, before her departure from Gateshead to Lowood School, Jane
solidifies her orphanhood by severing ties to the little semblance of family that remained to her. She
screams at her aunt:
You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or kindness; but I cannot live
so: and you have no pity. I shall remember how you thrust me back...into the red–room...And that
punishment you made me suffer because your wicked boy struck me...I will tell anybody who asks
me questions this exact tale. 'Ere I had finished this reply, my soul began to expand, to exult, with
the strangest sense of freedom, of triumph, I ever felt. It seemed as if an invisible bond had burst,
and that I had struggled out into unhoped–for liberty. (64)
Jane asserts her fiery spirit in her tirade. She displays her keen sense of justice and asserts her
need for love. Jane finally gets this burden of her chest which results in her emotional liberation.
Not only is she liberated from the physical injustices of Mrs. Reed, she is also released from the
psychological injustices suffered at her hand. Jane asserts her authority over her tyrannical aunt.
Likewise, when she finds out that Rochester has a wife, she tells herself she must leave. She says to

Character Analysis Of ' Superman '
Character Arching in Major Comics
Imagine Superman at his angriest, ready to murder the villain who put him through one of his worst
experiences. There's a tremendous battle, walls and floors are punctures with holes and valuable
artifacts held within the Fortress of Solitude are crumbling to dust, broken and irreplaceable. And
when he finally gets the upper hand, Superman sees something that reminds him of who he really is
inside and who we expect him to be, causing him to stop from killing another being.
Telling stories about comic book characters from the major companies is tricky. Companies was to
promote their name brands (gotta have my Iron Man sheets!) while still attempting to keep their
characters important and relevant. Yet, character arcs are a disservice to their branding: if a
character truly changes, will they still be able to make movies, cartoons and action figures? And
that's the rub; characters in comics (from the big companies) rarely change, or arc.
An arc occurs when the character becomes a different person because of the challenges they've
faced. Luke Skywalker, following Conrad's archetypal hero's journey, goes from a typical, whiney
teen to destroying the Death Star. On the farm, he longs to be free, independent and find his place
in the world and by the end of Star Wars he's flying among the stars and a hero to the rebellion. The
Captain American movie trilogy arcs Steve Rogers, as well. In movie one, Steve is the super patriot
willing to do

Character Analysis Of The Giver
The Giver: Analyzing Characters and Topics The character in the story that I was most fascinated
by was the Giver. This character has many admirable qualities. He is resilient against the painful
and hard memories he has seen and he is loving. He and Jonas are the only two characters in the
story that are even capable of loving. While reading this story, I felt as though the Giver and Jonas
were lucky because they get to understand and feel love, but on the other end of the spectrum, they
experience pain and great sadness. The other characters in the story get to be blissfully unaware
of the pain and suffering of the past. The first trait that I mentioned above, resilience, is why I like
the Giver's character so much. The quote that exemplifies this is, "The worst part of holding
memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared." "I've shared them
with you," Jonas said, trying to cheer him up. "That's true. And having you here with me over the
past year has made me realize that things must change. For years I've felt that they should, but it
seemed so hopeless. "Now for the first time I think there might be a way (Lowry 1993 Ch. 20 p.
154–155 para. 9–11)." This shows the Giver's resilience. He has been lonely because he had these
memories, some that were very painful, and no one with which to share them. He saw pain and love
and somehow lived with the burden of this knowledge. He continued to carry the burden of being
the Receiver while

Great Expectations- Character Analysis Essay
Estella Havisham: Most readers are appalled at the cold–hearted and cruel ways of Estella, but any
criticism directed at her is largely undeserved. She was simply raised in a controlled environment
where she was, in essence, brainwashed by Miss Havisham. Nonetheless, her demeanor might
lead one to suspect that she was a girl with a heart of ice. Estella is scornful from the moment she
is introduced, when she remarks on Pip's coarse hands and thick boots. However, her beauty soon
captivates Pip and she is instilled as the focal point of his thoughts for much of the remainder of the
novel. The fact that Pip becomes infatuated with her is also not Estella's fault. By no means is there
any evidence that she loved him. She does not flirt with...show more content...
The entire story is told through the eyes of an adult Pip, even though Pip is a small child during
parts of it. In his early years, Pip was strongly influenced by his guardians, Joe Gargery and his
wife, Mrs. Joe. Joe instills a sense of honesty, industry, and friendliness in Pip, while Mrs. Joe does
a great deal to contribute to his desires and ambitions through her constant emphasis on pomp and
property. Pip is generally good–natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false values,
which are bolstered by his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for Joe. His
alienation from Joe and Joe's values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip becomes
selfish, greedy, and foolish. During the period when his expectations are intact, his only morally
positive act was to secretly help Herbert Pocket into a good position. Upon discovering that
Magwitch is his benefactor, a new phase begins in Pip's moral evolution. At first, Pip no longer feels
the same human compassion for Magwitch that he did the first time he saw him out on the marshes.
Gradually, Pip changes his perception of Magwitch, unlearning what he has learned. Pip becomes
concerned with the man, and not the expectations that he could provide. When Jaggers presents the
thought that there may be a way for Pip to get his hands on Magwitch's property, the idea sounds
hollow and utterly empty to Pip. Pip learns about Estella's parentage through

Character Analysis of Romeo Essay
Character Analysis of Romeo Romeo and Juliet is a tale of two star–crossed lovers who in their love
for each other were willing to sacrifice their lives. Romeo is a very temperamental person; his
character develops considerably throughout the play in various ways. In this essay I shall be
looking closely at Romeo's character, his intentions & abilities and his relationship with other
characters in the play. In the conversation between Benvolio and Montague in act 1 scene 1, we
learn that Romeo is behaving strangely and avoiding his friends, "Towards him I made, but he was
ware of me and stole into the covert of the woods." In this sentence Benvolio is explaining to Lady
Montague that when...show more content...
Meaning that she does not love him and she has Dian's wit. Dian is the goddess of hunting and
chasity, she avoids Cupid's arrows ; from this we learn that Rosaline has no intention of loving
him or any other man. This is further proven when Romeo confirms Benvolio's question that she
has sworn to remain a virgin. Romeo goes on to say that his love is misplaced because Rosaline
has rejected him. Romeo compares his love to Rosaline as a devote religion. His words seem
mature which belies his actions, which is often irresponsible and immature. Even when his love
has been rejected, Romeo still feels heavy with the burden of love. His friends didn't take his love
seriously, they thought it was humorous, silly and later on exasperating. Romeo is hurt by
Rosaline 's rejections and perhaps by his friends' indifference towards his love. We learn this
when he quotes "... love pricks like thorn...". But Mecrutio does not feel melancholy about love.
He views love in a physical sense more than emotional, he advises rather crudely " If love be
rough with you, be rough with love". Romeo's actions and words in act 1 scene 5 make us doubt
if he has been in love at all, or just thinking pretending to be in love. He himself doubts it "did my
heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight for I ne, er saw true beauty till this night." By his words we
gather that He

Essay on "Crash" Character Analysis
Challenging and thought–provoking, Paul Haggis' "Crash" takes a provocative, unflinching look at
the complexities of racial tolerance in contemporary America. Diving headlong into the diverse
melting pot of post–9/11 Los Angeles, this compelling urban drama tracks the volatile intersections

one another's lives. In the gray area between black and white, victim and aggressor, there are no

A white man and woman approach them in the street, and as soon as the woman sees the two black

men who according to Anthony resemble the average UCLA student?
According to Anthony, you could not find a more white, well–lit place in town. "We the only two

assumption turn out to be a correct one? Yes it did. Anthony again reinforces another stereotype
given to his race. By acting the way he did he proved the woman to correct in her assumption. If he
did not want the woman to be afraid of him, then why did he steal her car? What will she think of
black men now?

Lenina Character Analysis
In Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley, Lenina is nineteen years old, she is described as
"uncommonly pretty." She is in the beta class and the female archetype, a new type of civilized
person in the New World society, both intellectually and sexually. Bernard Marx is interested in her,
and Lenina in him. They travel to the reservation and later have sex. However, Lenina is discovering
that John does not want to have sex with her, she is hurt and confused. When she was young, Lenina
went through sleep training, which made her brain accustomed to certain sayings and feelings. She
was accustomed to men wanting to go to bed with her. When she wants instant gratification, she
consumes soma, a drug used in the society to make people feel better. When she traveled to John's
residents, she had high hopes for the situation to come. However, John strikes her. Lenina inBrave
New World is a classic example of a common naГЇve young teenage girl who is set in her ways and
expects everyone to want her, but through reality and drug use, falls apart.
Throughout the story, Huxley refers to Lenina as being "pneumatic." This means full of air. We
can view this as literal or in a figurative manner. She is not full of air, but this is meant to make us
think she is curvy or busty. This is one of the ways men are drawn to her. Lenina is not the
smartest women in the story, her head could also be described as "full of air." Lenina does not
have any emotion, she cannot value any true feelings. She is used to men using her, but when
John wanted her for more than just the physical use, she is very confused. She questions herself,
leading to a decline in her mental state. "Perhaps it's because he doesn't like me" (177), she said to
herself. She then goes on a soma high to escape these strange feelings. Lenina as a person in the
story does not know what to feel, but she cannot except any changes outside of her mind frame.
Lenina being a lady in the Brave New World society cannot feel the same things other women feel
in the real world. She can only recognize men wanting her for sexual pleasure. In real life, women
recognize their real worth and don't blindly let any man into their life. Lenina is to naГЇve and her
brain only has one

The love triangles, the infidelity, gold digging and homicide disgust Nick and he becomes
resolved to move back to his midwestern comfort zone almost like in doing so, he will be able to
wash himself clean of the experience. Although the character Nick acts as a confidant for those
around him, it seems that the burden of their indiscretions is too much for him and he returns to the
familiarity and the safety of the morals he was raised on. The real contradiction to Nick is The Great
Gatsby himself, Jay. Jay and Nick share a similar small town upbringing but Jay was able to parle
his stolen trades into the corrupted version of the American Dream. Most of what Nick knows
about Jay is based on his reputation and it's not until they actually meet and Nick sees the "quality

Huckleberry Finn Character Analysis Essay

Harry Potter Character Analysis
Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature,
But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero.
Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be
taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put
into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book
the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter
Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs.
The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave.
If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave".
There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however
there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion.
Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other
complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand
down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove
how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog",
Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He
shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in
chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom
Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging
the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just
how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would
use to describe Harry Potter is being kind.
Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter
shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness
we must first truly understand what it truly

because he is suspecting it to be witchcraft and instead he counsels the good christians. Another thing
is Judge Danforth starts to lose his reputation just like Parris and Proctor.
Judge Danforth loses his reputation when considering that the victims are lying. When Judge

Danforth in open court says, "Then you tell me that you sat in my court, callously lying, when you

Don Giovanni Character Analysis
Don Giovanni is an operatic character that plays a womanizer during the 17th century. This was a
play first performed in 1789, a successful creation of Mozart and DaPonte. During the play, Don
Giovanni represents a sociopath that is lead by his incredible weakness for women. This weakness
leads him into darkness, complete with seduction, and murder. Since the beginning, many people
have seen Don Giovanni as a hero but many others have considered him a villain. The actions of Don
Giovanni are not completely heroic neither are they totally villainous. But is noticeable that
throughout the play he is more a hero than a villain.
In the first act, Don Giovanni is rushing out from Donna Anna's room. She pursues him and calls
for help to arrest the man she says raped her. When she is calling for help her father, the
Commendatore, comes out and challenges Don Giovanni to a duel to revenge his daughter's
honor. Don Giovanni won the duel and now Donna Ana's father is dead. This particular scene is
controversial in the play because depicts Don Giovanni as a rapist and as a murder. But this is not
clearly convincible. In the first place, the woman is chasing him after he leaves the room which is
odd since no woman would chase the man that just raped her. Then the Commendatore was killed in
a duel in which he was the challenger. A duel is the fighting between two persons to fix their
differences and usually, this kind of battles was legal during the 17th century. Don Giovanni did not

Ginger Pye Character Analysis Essay
Character: Tell about a decision or choice made by a character. Do you feel the character made a

(a young boy named Jerry) dog is stolen. He has to look all around the city for Ginger with his
sister Rachel, but is unable to find the thief. The decision Jerry made not to suspect Wally was
bad. He showed no signs of interest because Wally was his friend. Wally, from my views was a
very untrustworthy person. Some of my reasons were Wally was very protective of his house, he
was very anxious to get over any conversations with Jerry and Rachel, and he showed some
behaviour that was to be suspected. When Jerry and his sister Rachel visit their friend Wally's
house, all Wally says is "You guys better watch out. I have a big dog in my backyard. If you guys

said the walls were very high and that Ginger was kept in a corner that was very dark. That is most
likely why Ginger ran away from Wally and his yellow hat. The reason I picked horrid is because
everything in the backyard was way under the standards for a dog as hard working as Ginger.
Ginger only had one chew toy and half a bag of food when he was with Wally. Ginger had the
thickest rope and the tightest knot because when Rachel saw Ginger, she saw a little blood on his

She repeatedly questions his manhood, courage, and his love for her. She knows he is too weak to kill
Duncan so she has no choice but to manipulate him to win him the title of King. She does this until
he feels that he has no choice but to commit the murder to prove him to her.
Was the hope drunk
Wherein you dressed yourself? Hath if slept since?
And wakes it now to look so green and pale
At what it did so freely? From this time
Such I account thy love. Art thou afeard
To be the same in thine own act and valor
As thou art in desire? Wouldst thou have that
Which thou esteem'st the ornament of life,
And live a coward in thine own esteem,
Letting "I dare not" wait upon "I would,"
Like the poor cat I' the adage? (lines 36–45/act 1/scene 7)
As the strong hold in the relationship, Lady Macbeth shows remarkable strength up to the point of
Duncan's murder. She is the comforter of Macbeth immediately after he commits the crime. Both
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth later lose the ability to sleep because if they do, they have terrifying
dreams but she still shows more strength during the day than her husband. To help keep Macbeth
from feeling guilty and to help keep him calm in the night, she once again questions his manhood.
That is until she cracks and her conscience becomes too much for her to handle. She was the one

Iron Man Character Analysis Essay
Tony Stark's Character Growth in Iron Man In the beginning of Iron Man, the main protagonist,
Tony Stark, was generally a bad person. He was an extreme example of the celebrity stereotype––
flashy, arrogant, self–absorbed, and rude. Stark took personal honors, as well as relationships with
others, for granted. But that all changed when Stark was kidnapped by a terroristic rebel group.
During his time as a prisoner, Tony saw what horrors his technology could be used for, and later
escaped captivity humbled and changed. From the moment he returned, Stark's character started
growing into a caring and heroic figure. Specifically, Tony Stark emerged as a new man, actually
caring for his assistant, Pepper Pots, being concerned about what...show more content...
Oftentimes these extremely powerful weapons ended up in the wrong hands, like insurgents. When
Tony's convoy was attacked, a rocket lodged into the ground in front of him, bearing the inscription
of Tony's own corporation. Upon his return, having seen the horrors of his weaponry firsthand,
Stark set out to right the wrongs. At his first press conference after coming home, Tony said, "I saw
young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw
that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero–accountability". (Iron Man) He then
proceeded to shut down the weaponry arm of Stark Industries. These actions are the sign of a
changed man. Tony Stark went from war profiteering to whistleblowing for corrupt arms dealing.
Finally, Tony Stark's most obvious change was simply in becoming a superhero. From the start of
the movie, Stark was a rich, self–interested playboy who would be more concerned over a scratch on
the finish of his Audi R8 than the fate of the free world unless it benefitted him. Taking a
completely different direction, Tony used his Iron Man suit to pursue those who wrongfully used
Stark Industries weapons. Stark even stated, "I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm
not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right". (Iron
Man) This

Essay On Character Traits
There are many character traits that make someone successful in life. Some traits you are born with,
other traits are mindsets. There are a few character traits that coaches, teachers, bosses, or any other
significant figure looks for in particular. One of the most important character traits is a hard–working
attitude. You aren't born with a hard–working attitude. It is a mindset. You may not be the best
employee, but an employer will be more willing to work with someone that works hard than
someone that can do the job but is lazy. Although I am not the best at everything, I give 100%
effort in everything that I do and believe that working hard is the most important trait a person can
possess. As a child, the phrase, "Do your best," was...show more content...
I knew that in order to be starting, I needed to be the hardest worker on the team. With all my hard
work came a starting position. The biggest lesson that my father taught me was in seventh grade.
It was a normal day of basketball practice and we were scrimmaging. During a particular play, I
ran the wrong route. He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I
was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of
practice. I knew at that point that I could take no breaks. While I was taking breaks, other people
were getting better. Chances to improve were very slim, so I needed to take advantage of them
whenever possible. Although this was a very inconvenient way for me to learn this lesson, he
definitely got his point across and I now work hard every chance that I get. Everyone wants to
have a successful career. The first step to a successful career is to obtain the job that you want.
Obviously you need the education level for this occupation, but what else is going to give you a leg
up on the competition? As a Sophomore in high school, I had the opportunity to job shadow a
manager of engineers at an engineering firm. One of his responsibilities was going through the
hiring process. As a prospective future employee, I was curious as to what he looked for most in
an employee. He did not say education. He did not say experience. He said that they needed a hard

Character Analysis Essays

  • 1. Banquo Character Analysis How Banquo is a foil to Macbeth A foil's purpose in literature is to provide contrast and advance the protagonist's character in way that spurs the protagonist into action. In Shakespeare's Macbeth, Shakespeare shows how Banquo is a direct foil to Macbeth and how Banquo's presence in the play also develops Macbeth's character. Throughout the play Macbeth and Banquo characters are contrasted on many different occasions, for example the witches' prophecies and how they both react to them, their specific character traits, and lastly their relationship and how to degrades throughout the play. Shakespeare presents these two characters as complete opposites, which gives the audience a chance to connect with Macbeth as his character advances through the plot and in character. The differences and similarities in personality between Macbeth and Banquo are apparent from Act 1 but Shakespeare uses their differences as a way to establish both of them, as separate characters. In the third scene of the play, the witches first appear to Macbeth and Banquo, and as of now the contrast between Banquo and Macbeth are beginning to be unravel. This is shown through Macbeth's and Banquo's reaction to the witches prophecy, "Things that do sound so fair? I' the name of truth,/ Are ye fantastical, or that indeed/Which outwardly ye show? My noble partner/You greet with present grace and great prediction/Of noble having and of royal hope,/That he seems rapt withal: to me you speak not."(1.3.54–60). Shakespeare uses Banquo to highlight the fact that Macbeth is "Rapt withal", Macbeth is very gullible and takes things at face value and he begins to think of the witches' statements as providence rather than prophecy. Shortly after, during his aside he state that he will leave it to chance but the seeds of ambition are already beginning to grow in his mind due to these prophecies. Also, the quote "to me you speak not" shows that Banquo, contrasting heavily from Macbeth, is rather unfazed by these prophecies. This also furthers their character's differences, in the sense that Macbeth is more easily persuaded and not questioning anything, while Banquo is more down to earth and is taking the witches words Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Character Analysis Essay Stephan Attilus English 2 Honors Ms. Gaddis Character Analysis Essay In past times, many African tribes and regions have been colonized by European countries. England, France, Portugal, and Spain were all looking to spread their influences and find good to trade. At first the Africans were curious when they saw these white men because the only white person they had seen was Albinos. There were many different reactions to these foreigners. Some African welcomed them into their villages while other worried that they were dangerous. In Chinua Achebe's novel Things Fall Apart Okonkwo, a clansman of Umoufia, is one of the worried people. Forced into exile for seven years for killing a clansman by accident, Okonkwo moves to Mbanta, his...show more content... Okonkwo was returning to Umoufia with two beautiful daughters, he would build a magnificent compound, and he planned to get back his titles. What Okonkwo didn't know was that returning to Umoufia would lead to his down fall. The church was much deeper into Umoufia than Mbanta. They had more converts and brought a government to Umoufia. In chapter 22 it says that they had built a court were the district commissioner would hold case. He had messengers that brought men to him for trial. By setting up a justice system, we as readers know that the true intent of the Europeans was to colonize the Africans but the Africans have no clue. Enoch, son of the snake priest and a Christian, is the reason why "things fall apart". One the greatest if not the greatest crime in Umoufia was unmask an egwugwu in public. Taking of an egwugwu mask means you've killed an ancestral spirit. The next dathe egwugwu went to Enoch's compound searching for him with machetes in hand. When they can't find him, they move on to the church. Ajofia, the leader of the egwugwu speaks to Mr. Smith, the leader of the church: "Tell the white man we will not hurt him", says Ajofia to the interpreter. Mr. Smith refuses. Mr. Smith watched them destroy the church because of what Enoch did. Later on the, the leaders of Umoufia were taken to the DC (district commissioner). Despite the DC's orders to not harm the leaders, the messangers of the DC tortured them. Okonkwo's friends and family saw Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Jane Eyre Character Analysis Jane Eyre is one of many characters in literature that readers can show true empathy to. She is an honorable woman, humble and courageous, kind but strong–willed. While many stories rely on imperfect lead protagonists who fail in order to relate to the downtrodden nature of the human condition, Jane is altogether different. She appeals to the nobler parts of one's self, a part that is equally common to everyone, but by which one is rarely reminded of. Jane Eyre written by Charlotte BrontГ« demonstrates that only when people experience difficulties in their life do they find their true selves. Jane Eyre's endurance in the face of physical and psychological difficulties reveals much about the human condition of perseverance. Jane is...show more content... Because Jane perseveres through a societal situation where she is not only belittled by her aunt but also destined to be disposable to men, she develops the ability to fight abruptly for what she believes in at all times. To start off, before her departure from Gateshead to Lowood School, Jane solidifies her orphanhood by severing ties to the little semblance of family that remained to her. She screams at her aunt: You think I have no feelings, and that I can do without one bit of love or kindness; but I cannot live so: and you have no pity. I shall remember how you thrust me back...into the red–room...And that punishment you made me suffer because your wicked boy struck me...I will tell anybody who asks me questions this exact tale. 'Ere I had finished this reply, my soul began to expand, to exult, with the strangest sense of freedom, of triumph, I ever felt. It seemed as if an invisible bond had burst, and that I had struggled out into unhoped–for liberty. (64) Jane asserts her fiery spirit in her tirade. She displays her keen sense of justice and asserts her need for love. Jane finally gets this burden of her chest which results in her emotional liberation. Not only is she liberated from the physical injustices of Mrs. Reed, she is also released from the psychological injustices suffered at her hand. Jane asserts her authority over her tyrannical aunt. • 6. Character Analysis Of ' Superman ' Character Arching in Major Comics Imagine Superman at his angriest, ready to murder the villain who put him through one of his worst experiences. There's a tremendous battle, walls and floors are punctures with holes and valuable artifacts held within the Fortress of Solitude are crumbling to dust, broken and irreplaceable. And when he finally gets the upper hand, Superman sees something that reminds him of who he really is inside and who we expect him to be, causing him to stop from killing another being. Telling stories about comic book characters from the major companies is tricky. Companies was to promote their name brands (gotta have my Iron Man sheets!) while still attempting to keep their characters important and relevant. Yet, character arcs are a disservice to their branding: if a character truly changes, will they still be able to make movies, cartoons and action figures? And that's the rub; characters in comics (from the big companies) rarely change, or arc. An arc occurs when the character becomes a different person because of the challenges they've faced. Luke Skywalker, following Conrad's archetypal hero's journey, goes from a typical, whiney teen to destroying the Death Star. On the farm, he longs to be free, independent and find his place in the world and by the end of Star Wars he's flying among the stars and a hero to the rebellion. The Captain American movie trilogy arcs Steve Rogers, as well. In movie one, Steve is the super patriot willing to do Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Character Analysis Of The Giver The Giver: Analyzing Characters and Topics The character in the story that I was most fascinated by was the Giver. This character has many admirable qualities. He is resilient against the painful and hard memories he has seen and he is loving. He and Jonas are the only two characters in the story that are even capable of loving. While reading this story, I felt as though the Giver and Jonas were lucky because they get to understand and feel love, but on the other end of the spectrum, they experience pain and great sadness. The other characters in the story get to be blissfully unaware of the pain and suffering of the past. The first trait that I mentioned above, resilience, is why I like the Giver's character so much. The quote that exemplifies this is, "The worst part of holding memories is not the pain. It's the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared." "I've shared them with you," Jonas said, trying to cheer him up. "That's true. And having you here with me over the past year has made me realize that things must change. For years I've felt that they should, but it seemed so hopeless. "Now for the first time I think there might be a way (Lowry 1993 Ch. 20 p. 154–155 para. 9–11)." This shows the Giver's resilience. He has been lonely because he had these memories, some that were very painful, and no one with which to share them. He saw pain and love and somehow lived with the burden of this knowledge. He continued to carry the burden of being the Receiver while Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Great Expectations- Character Analysis Essay Estella Havisham: Most readers are appalled at the cold–hearted and cruel ways of Estella, but any criticism directed at her is largely undeserved. She was simply raised in a controlled environment where she was, in essence, brainwashed by Miss Havisham. Nonetheless, her demeanor might lead one to suspect that she was a girl with a heart of ice. Estella is scornful from the moment she is introduced, when she remarks on Pip's coarse hands and thick boots. However, her beauty soon captivates Pip and she is instilled as the focal point of his thoughts for much of the remainder of the novel. The fact that Pip becomes infatuated with her is also not Estella's fault. By no means is there any evidence that she loved him. She does not flirt with...show more content... The entire story is told through the eyes of an adult Pip, even though Pip is a small child during parts of it. In his early years, Pip was strongly influenced by his guardians, Joe Gargery and his wife, Mrs. Joe. Joe instills a sense of honesty, industry, and friendliness in Pip, while Mrs. Joe does a great deal to contribute to his desires and ambitions through her constant emphasis on pomp and property. Pip is generally good–natured and thoughtful, and very imaginative. His false values, which are bolstered by his love of Estella, decrease the amount of respect that he has for Joe. His alienation from Joe and Joe's values builds through the second part of the novel, as Pip becomes selfish, greedy, and foolish. During the period when his expectations are intact, his only morally positive act was to secretly help Herbert Pocket into a good position. Upon discovering that Magwitch is his benefactor, a new phase begins in Pip's moral evolution. At first, Pip no longer feels the same human compassion for Magwitch that he did the first time he saw him out on the marshes. Gradually, Pip changes his perception of Magwitch, unlearning what he has learned. Pip becomes concerned with the man, and not the expectations that he could provide. When Jaggers presents the thought that there may be a way for Pip to get his hands on Magwitch's property, the idea sounds hollow and utterly empty to Pip. • 9. Character Analysis of Romeo Essay Character Analysis of Romeo Romeo and Juliet is a tale of two star–crossed lovers who in their love for each other were willing to sacrifice their lives. Romeo is a very temperamental person; his character develops considerably throughout the play in various ways. In this essay I shall be looking closely at Romeo's character, his intentions & abilities and his relationship with other characters in the play. In the conversation between Benvolio and Montague in act 1 scene 1, we learn that Romeo is behaving strangely and avoiding his friends, "Towards him I made, but he was ware of me and stole into the covert of the woods." In this sentence Benvolio is explaining to Lady Montague that when...show more content... Meaning that she does not love him and she has Dian's wit. Dian is the goddess of hunting and chasity, she avoids Cupid's arrows ; from this we learn that Rosaline has no intention of loving him or any other man. This is further proven when Romeo confirms Benvolio's question that she has sworn to remain a virgin. Romeo goes on to say that his love is misplaced because Rosaline has rejected him. Romeo compares his love to Rosaline as a devote religion. His words seem mature which belies his actions, which is often irresponsible and immature. Even when his love has been rejected, Romeo still feels heavy with the burden of love. His friends didn't take his love seriously, they thought it was humorous, silly and later on exasperating. Romeo is hurt by Rosaline 's rejections and perhaps by his friends' indifference towards his love. We learn this when he quotes "... love pricks like thorn...". But Mecrutio does not feel melancholy about love. He views love in a physical sense more than emotional, he advises rather crudely " If love be rough with you, be rough with love". Romeo's actions and words in act 1 scene 5 make us doubt if he has been in love at all, or just thinking pretending to be in love. He himself doubts it "did my heart love till now? Foreswear it, sight for I ne, er saw true beauty till this night." By his words we gather that He Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Essay on "Crash" Character Analysis Challenging and thought–provoking, Paul Haggis' "Crash" takes a provocative, unflinching look at the complexities of racial tolerance in contemporary America. Diving headlong into the diverse melting pot of post–9/11 Los Angeles, this compelling urban drama tracks the volatile intersections of a multi–ethnic cast of characters' struggles to overcome their fears as they careen in and out of one another's lives. In the gray area between black and white, victim and aggressor, there are no easy answers. A white man and woman approach them in the street, and as soon as the woman sees the two black men her arm almost automatically clings to the side of her lover. Why should she be afraid of two men who according to Anthony resemble the average UCLA student? According to Anthony, you could not find a more white, well–lit place in town. "We the only two black faces surrounded by a sea of over–caffeinated white people, patrolled by the trigger–happy LAPD. So tell me, why aren't we scared?". Peter– " В‘cause we got guns?". Anthony– "you could be right". They then pull out their firearms and approach the couple, robbing them of their SUV at gunpoint. In the end, was the woman wrong to make such an assumption? Yes she was. Did her assumption turn out to be a correct one? Yes it did. Anthony again reinforces another stereotype given to his race. By acting the way he did he proved the woman to correct in her assumption. If he did not want the woman to be afraid of him, then why did he steal her car? What will she think of black men now? • 12. Lenina Character Analysis In Brave New World written by Aldous Huxley, Lenina is nineteen years old, she is described as "uncommonly pretty." She is in the beta class and the female archetype, a new type of civilized person in the New World society, both intellectually and sexually. Bernard Marx is interested in her, and Lenina in him. They travel to the reservation and later have sex. However, Lenina is discovering that John does not want to have sex with her, she is hurt and confused. When she was young, Lenina went through sleep training, which made her brain accustomed to certain sayings and feelings. She was accustomed to men wanting to go to bed with her. When she wants instant gratification, she consumes soma, a drug used in the society to make people feel better. When she traveled to John's residents, she had high hopes for the situation to come. However, John strikes her. Lenina inBrave New World is a classic example of a common naГЇve young teenage girl who is set in her ways and expects everyone to want her, but through reality and drug use, falls apart. Throughout the story, Huxley refers to Lenina as being "pneumatic." This means full of air. We can view this as literal or in a figurative manner. She is not full of air, but this is meant to make us think she is curvy or busty. This is one of the ways men are drawn to her. Lenina is not the smartest women in the story, her head could also be described as "full of air." Lenina does not have any emotion, she cannot value any true feelings. She is used to men using her, but when John wanted her for more than just the physical use, she is very confused. She questions herself, leading to a decline in her mental state. "Perhaps it's because he doesn't like me" (177), she said to herself. She then goes on a soma high to escape these strange feelings. Lenina as a person in the story does not know what to feel, but she cannot except any changes outside of her mind frame. Lenina being a lady in the Brave New World society cannot feel the same things other women feel in the real world. She can only recognize men wanting her for sexual pleasure. In real life, women recognize their real worth and don't blindly let any man into their life. Lenina is to naГЇve and her brain only has one Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. West meets East... and Doesn't Like it. The novel The Great Gatsby is an interesting tale of two cities really. Nick Carraway; the narrator, represents all that is good an wholesome in the great midwest. He is a well–educated man who aspires to be a bond broker. His character is conflicted internally and externally throughout the novel but really culminates into a loathing for all things eastern. Carraway's farmboy charm and doe–eyed innocence is put to the test when he meets The Great Jay Gatsby. Gatsby represents all things Nick is unfamiliar with and is curious about. When Nick meets up with his cousin Daisy and his old classmate Tom in East Egg, he is shown an unfamiliar side of people, a darker side, and he is at a loss and out of his element. Nick is tempted and curious about these things and they lead him away from his midwestern upbringing. The love triangles, the infidelity, gold digging and homicide disgust Nick and he becomes resolved to move back to his midwestern comfort zone almost like in doing so, he will be able to wash himself clean of the experience. Although the character Nick acts as a confidant for those around him, it seems that the burden of their indiscretions is too much for him and he returns to the familiarity and the safety of the morals he was raised on. The real contradiction to Nick is The Great Gatsby himself, Jay. Jay and Nick share a similar small town upbringing but Jay was able to parle his stolen trades into the corrupted version of the American Dream. Most of what Nick knows about Jay is based on his reputation and it's not until they actually meet and Nick sees the "quality of distortion" in Jay's New York lifestyle that Nick sees for himself the illusion that Jay created. Nick is attracted to the high life that Gatsby has created in the valley of ashes. Who can blame him with all the lavish parties, cars, mansions, women and other temptations. Huckleberry Finn Character Analysis Essay Many families have a father who is drunk all of the time while also doing nothing productive for the family, and a kid who means well but makes the wrong decision many time. In the story this story Twain portrays Huck as a character who is innocent but makes the wrong decision sometimes, while his father Pap is an awful drunk who doesn't care for him at all. Mark Twain uses realistic traits to explain the life of the very complex characters in the book Huckleberry Finn, making the story relatable to even the newest generation of readers. The first character will be Huck, a kid who is just trying to learn and be a normal kid. He makes some mistakes along the way but in general is a good person. • 15. Harry Potter Character Analysis Harry Potter is one of the most widely known heroines in all of literature, But what makes him so special. He has many defining character traits that makes him a hero. Such as being brave, kind and, determined. The books address many times however we will only be taking from the second novel, The chamber of secrets. In this essay we will explain why he was put into gryffindor in the first place. We will also cover examples of his heroic traits in the specific book the chamber of secrets also. In this essay I will show you exactly how Harry Potter Is brave and also kind to others and how he is determined to finish the task at hand at all costs. The first adjective I stated was the factor of Harry Potter being brave. If I were to only have to choose adjective to describe Harry Potter it would be just that, "Brave". There are many instances of Harry Potter being brave in the novels. In chamber of secrets however there seems to be more instances of bravery than any other novel in my opinion. Being brave has a lot more to do than you just standing up to your fears. It has many other complications like standing up for something that you think is right when others tell you to stand down. Bravery is doing things that others would not. With those statements of bravery let's prove how Harry Potter shows traits of bravery in the chamber of secrets. In chapter fifteen, "Aragog", Harry stays on the trail when Ron wants to leave yelling "No Ron we have to get this done". He shows bravery by staying in the forest when fear overtakes his body. He also shows bravery in chapter sixteen, "The chamber of secrets", when he fights and kills the basilisk to stop Tom Riddle from killing Ginny Weasley by "Throwing his whole weight into the sword and plunging the sword into the roof of the basilisk's mouth. Those are all instances of bravery and shows just how brave Harry Potter is in the second novel, "The chamber of secrets". The second word I would use to describe Harry Potter is being kind. Being kind is a good trait to have not only just in heroines but in all humans alike. Harry Potter shows many instances of kindness throughout all of the novels. Before we go into Harry's kindness we must first truly understand what it truly Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Parris is pryng for more information about the girls dancing in the woods because he is suspecting it to be witchcraft and instead he counsels the good christians. Another thing is Judge Danforth starts to lose his reputation just like Parris and Proctor. Judge Danforth loses his reputation when considering that the victims are lying. Judge Danforth in open court says, "Then you tell me that you sat in my court, callously lying, when you knew that people would hang by your evidence?... Answer me!"(pg.101). • 17. Don Giovanni Character Analysis Don Giovanni is an operatic character that plays a womanizer during the 17th century. This was a play first performed in 1789, a successful creation of Mozart and DaPonte. During the play, Don Giovanni represents a sociopath that is lead by his incredible weakness for women. This weakness leads him into darkness, complete with seduction, and murder. Since the beginning, many people have seen Don Giovanni as a hero but many others have considered him a villain. The actions of Don Giovanni are not completely heroic neither are they totally villainous. But is noticeable that throughout the play he is more a hero than a villain. In the first act, Don Giovanni is rushing out from Donna Anna's room. She pursues him and calls for help to arrest the man she says raped her. When she is calling for help her father, the Commendatore, comes out and challenges Don Giovanni to a duel to revenge his daughter's honor. Don Giovanni won the duel and now Donna Ana's father is dead. This particular scene is controversial in the play because depicts Don Giovanni as a rapist and as a murder. But this is not clearly convincible. In the first place, the woman is chasing him after he leaves the room which is odd since no woman would chase the man that just raped her. Then the Commendatore was killed in a duel in which he was the challenger. A duel is the fighting between two persons to fix their differences and usually, this kind of battles was legal during the 17th century. Don Giovanni did not Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In my story(Ginger Pye by Eleanor Estes), the main character's (a young boy named Jerry) dog is stolen. He has to look all around the city for Ginger with his sister Rachel, but is unable to find the thief. The decision Jerry made not to suspect Wally was bad. He showed no signs of interest because Wally was his friend. Wally, from my views was a very untrustworthy person. Some of my reasons were Wally was very protective of his house, he was very anxious to get over any conversations with Jerry and Rachel, and he showed some behaviour that was to be suspected. When Jerry and his sister Rachel visit their friend Wally's house, all Wally says is "You guys better watch out. I have a big dog in my backyard. In the book it said the walls were very high and that Ginger was kept in a corner that was very dark. That is most likely why Ginger ran away from Wally and his yellow hat. The reason I picked horrid is because everything in the backyard was way under the standards for a dog as hard working as Ginger. Ginger had the thickest rope and the tightest knot because when Rachel saw Ginger, she saw a little blood on his neck and saw the hair was compressed and bunched Get more content on HelpWriting.net

He was an extreme example of the celebrity stereotype–– flashy, arrogant, self–absorbed, and rude. Stark took personal honors, as well as relationships with others, for granted. But that all changed when Stark was kidnapped by a terroristic rebel group. During his time as a prisoner, Tony saw what horrors his technology could be used for, and later escaped captivity humbled and changed. At his first press conference after coming home, Tony said, "I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw that I had become part of a system that is comfortable with zero–accountability". (Iron Man) He then proceeded to shut down the weaponry arm of Stark Industries. These actions are the sign of a changed man. Tony Stark went from war profiteering to whistleblowing for corrupt arms dealing. Finally, Tony Stark's most obvious change was simply in becoming a superhero. From the start of the movie, Stark was a rich, self–interested playboy who would be more concerned over a scratch on the finish of his Audi R8 than the fate of the free world unless it benefitted him. Taking a completely different direction, Tony used his Iron Man suit to pursue those who wrongfully used Stark Industries weapons. Stark even stated, "I shouldn't be alive... unless it was for a reason. I'm not crazy, Pepper. I just finally know what I have to do. And I know in my heart that it's right". He made me run around the gym for forgetting what to do. I decided that I was too tired to sprint around the gym. Because of my decision, he chose to kick me out of practice.
