Significant Long Term Causes Of The 1905 Russian Revolution
Intro
The Autocratic system within Russia which was put into place for 300 years was one of the significant long term causes for the Russian 1905
revolution. The ideas surrounding the autocratic system meant that there was no parliament but one ruler who was Tsar Nicholas the II who had
absolute power and believed that he had been given this power by divine right. The autocratic control over Russia involved russification which meant
that the other cultures and languages being practiced were to be prohibited in order to try and unify Russia as it was so vast. To help control people
from this, the Okhrana were put in place all over Russia to prevent people from practising any other Culture other than Russian and to control the bands

In 1905 the working conditions for the peasants and proletariat workers were poor and their rights with their employers were non existent but they
still had loyalty towards the Tsar and believed in his leadership. Because The peasants and the workers thought that the Tsar would be willing to help
them, they went on a strike, drafted a petition to give directly to him outside Winter palace expecting for him to listen to them and to grant them
basic necessities. Within the petition they requested reduction of the working hours, higher wages, Medical attention to be given carefully and
considerately and making sure that factories are safe for them to work in without risk of death. On 9th of January, the day of the march, the workers
marched peacefully with their families carrying pictures of the Tsar as a sign of respect. But the Tsar was aware of the March that was happening and
had no intention of reading the petition as he thought that he could maintain his power and loyalty without agreeing to the workers needs so left the
night before, leaving his police to guard the winter palace. As the marchers advanced to the Winter palace and were met with the police who
immediately shot on them, killing hundreds of the workers and their family. The tsar wasn't aware that his police had shot on them, as it was his Uncle
who gave out the

The 1905 Act
Indigenous Australians developed trust issues during colonisation. When the settlers invaded, life would never be the same for Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Island people. Land that had been theirs for roughly 40,000 years was stripped from the Indigenous Australians and all rights were taken away.
Most settlers were extremely racist and wanted the Indigenous Australians gone. One settler from Hunter Valley went as far as comparing the
Aborigines to apes (Wilson–Miller, 2011). The 1905 Act in WesternAustralia was then drawn up to provide the Aborigines care and protection. The
1905 Act with its long list of rules and regulations did everything but provide care and protection. Aborigines were carefully watched and everything
they did was monitored.

Essay on Tsar After 1905
Tsar After 1905
It would be true to say that the Tsar remained unscathed after 1905, as he remained on the throne until 1917. However, it would also be true to say that
the Tsar was permanently damaged by the 1905 revolution.
Before 1905, there was much unrest and discontent. Famines in 1897, 1898 and 1901, made the already struggling countryside even worse, and the
usually loyal peasantry held uprisings in two provinces in 1902. The Russo–Japanese war caused further unrest following a series of defeats, including
that of Port Arthur. This caused revolutionary outbreaks to spread rapidly throughoutRussia and gave way for various Liberal groups to press for their
demands for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nicolas II was forced to make concessions. He would never fully recover from this event as Revolutionaries saw this as an example where violence
achieved aims. On 3rd March1905, the Tsar offered a consultative assembly to try and bring an end to the violence.
The rest of 1905 continued in a similar way. Defeats in Japan caused further outrage in Russia, which caused the Tsar to make further concessions. For
example; the Battle of Tsushima on the 27th May, (where the Russian Baltic fleet were destroyed), lead to a disorder of widespread strikes in June and
August, which lead to the Tsar promising an Imperial Duma on the 19th August.
The formation of the Union of Unions on the 8th March was significant, as the middle classes and peasants formed new opposition to the Tsar. This
affected the Tsar long–term as never before had these groups opposed him. Nicholas II was forced to introduce new measures to regain the support of
these people.
Further defeats at Mukden and Tsushima meant that the Tsar was in danger of loosing more support. His repeated pledges of March were ridiculed as
no plans were put into action and further protests continued.
During the summer, the Tsar's position worsened as his own troops turned against him. Several ships went on strike due to poor conditions and in June,

Compare and Contrast the Causes of the 1905 and 1917...
Compare and contrast the causes of the 1905 and 1917 revolutions in Russia In 1905 and 1917 Russia was tormented by chaotic revolutions. The
workers and the intelligentsia had arrived at the point of hating the autocracy because they could no longer endure the suffering, hunger and repression
that the tsarist policies brought with them. Years later Lenin referred to the revolution of 1905 as a "dress rehearsal for the October Revolution" of
1917. In 1905 tsardom nearly fell. Nicholas II succeeded in remaining in power, stabilizing the situation, only thanks to various concessions. However,
his continuing to rule harshly and unwisely brought him to be forced to abdicate in the February of 1917, signing the end of the Russian monarchy....

"The power still has to be snatched from the hands of the old rulers and handed over to the revolution. That is the fundamental task. A general strike
only creates the necessary preconditions; it is quite inadequate for achieving the task itself"(Trotsky). The ineffectiveness of the strikes can be found in
the fact that in nearly every occasion the soldiers were ordered to shoot on the crowd, stopping the revolts and leaving the tsar as obnoxious to the
situation as before. Also the peasants in the countryside suffered land–hunger due to the growth of population caused by the decreased of mortality
rates. Backwardness was also caused by the "open field system", which didn't motivate the peasants to improve their machinery or seeding methods
since their land would be taken away from them and redistributed when a member of the community died. Nicholas II was a weak, indecisive and
obstinate ruler who, being very conservative and reactionary, used extensively the secret police ("Third Section") and the army to suppress uprisings
and political enemies. He alienated the intelligentsia and angered the liberals with his lack of political participation and exaggerated reliance on the
Fundamental laws, which said that the tsar was appointed by god and was rightfully in charge of the country. As a response, the liberals initiated a
banquet campaign that started in November 1904, and ended in January 1905 with the aim of making the tsar give

Causes of the 1905 Revolution
The 1905 revolution in Russia began when armed forces set fire on a group of peaceful protestors outside the Tsar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg.
However there were many factors in the build–up to revolution in 1905. Prior to 1905, disturbances in Russia could have been seen as quite rare. Russia
was though suffering from a long period of repression and unrest. From the implementation of tsarism in Russia, the regimes had slowly developed into
more of an autocratic establishment which implemented it's will onto the people with lesser regard for human life and liberty. Since the 1860's there
had been gradual changes in governmental, legal, social and economic policy implemented, however the political system was left unchanged. ... Show

The majority of the protestors did not have a chance. This event was the spark for many further revolutionary activities by different groups which
culminated in the 1905 revolution.
The mood prior to the 1905 revolution in Russia was a quiet but angry one. The peasants and workers situation was slowly worsening, only made
worse by bad harvest and economic reforms implemented by the tsarist government which left the poor even poorer. The tsarist regime had always
been, but was becoming more and more repressive and undemocratic. The choice to go to war with Japan had initially been perceived as a good one
but as a result of the severe losses the tsar and his regime was seen to be incompetent and all morale in the government and the army was lost. All these
causes led to the eventual revolution of

The Russo – Japanese war did is seen as a short term factor that was responsible for the 1905 revolution, however there are many other short term and

The Russo – Japanese war saw Russia lose to Japan. Russia saw itself as a great and powerful country, compared to others, Russia wanted to expand

workers union which began to develop ideas for a revolution, they demanded for political change and captured a willing audience within the working
society.
The political problems are seen as a long term problem; political problems can also be seen as being as a main factor that was responsible for the
1905 revolution. Russia was still an autocracy, all power rested with the Tsar. Other major European states were a democracy and had an elected
parliament that spoke and worked for the people. Political groups began to form, the Social Revolutionaries were founded in 1901, they were willing
to use violence to achieve a change in Russia, from 1901 – 1905 the Social Revolutionaries were responsible for over two thousand assassinations, one
being the Tsar's Uncle, Grand Duke Sergei the governor–general of Moscow.
The Social Democrats were another influential political group, formed in 1898 they two were also willing to use violent methods to achieve their
revolutionary aims. The Social Democrats wanted to turn society around and give power to the workers and peasants of the land. By 1905 the Social
Democrats has split into two groups, the Bolsheviks and Mensheviks.
All these political groups began to educate the country on revolutionary change, how other countries were richer and more powerful, how they needed
change if they wanted a better life. After Bloody Sunday many people in the country began to listen to the political groups, as they knew that

The Transference Across The Case Of Dora ( 1905 ) Essay
In this essay we will firstly give a brief outline of what transference is. Then we will discuss the transference across the case of Dora (1905).
Kahn (1991) claims that according to Freud, when entering therapy, a patient's view of and reaction to their therapist is influenced by two tendencies.
Firstly, the patient will view this relationship in the light of their earliest relationships, and secondly that they will try and incite replays of early
difficult situations. Jacobs (2010) describes this transference as the repetition by the patient of former, often child–like patterns of relating to significant
people, such as parents, but now viewed in relation to the therapist. The author goes on to claim that the therapist becomes, for the patient, a
transference figure with whom the patient has an opportunity to relive or to find the type of parent–child relationship he or she might have wished for,
or even to some extent had.
The transference is a way of seeing past relationships in the context of here–and–now. Bruce (1956) states that "transference, viewed as the transfer of
affect (evoked in the past by people and events) into the here and now of the analytic setting, means that the analysand must be able to project onto the
analyst a whole series of emotions felt in relation to significant figures from his or her past and present" (Bruce, 1956, P. 40). So, feelings and ideas
that the patient may have about the therapist seen in the transference aspect of their

The Regime Of The 1905 Revolution
It is evident that Nicholas II was mainly to blame for the 1905, due to his lack of response to the growing discontent amongst the Russian people.
Although it could be argued that the actions of previous Tsars were the cause of this discontent, and this was certainly influential, Nicholas ' failure to
act upon his people 's requests was ultimately the cause of the revolution.
The repressive Tsarist system in place in 1905 was arguably one of the most significant factors in the 1905 revolution, as much of the discontent in
Russia was due to anger at Nicholas ' autocratic Tsarist government. It could be argued that the repressive Tsarist system was not the fault of Nicholas
II, but instead a problem that had been in existence for decades before his reign began. For example, Nicholas ' predecessor Alexander III was also
committed to the preservation of the autocracy, and arguably took steps towards repression, through Russification and censorship, in addition to the
introduction of the Okhrana. Therefore, it could be argued that Nicholas was not to blame for the repressive Tsarist system or its consequences, due to
the fact that it had been in existence before his reign began.
However, as Nicholas did little to stop the government being so repressive, it could be argued that he was still to blame. Despite widespread calls for
reform from individuals such as Father Gapon, these requests were not acted upon, so in some ways Nicholas II can be held to account for the

Essay about The Sarajevo Murders and the Moroccan Crisis...
The Sarajevo Murders and the Moroccan Crisis in 1905
In the years leading up to the Sarajevo murders and the outbreak of World War 1 many events took place that led to the building of tension between
the 6 main powers of Europe, although, none of these events caused a war. My aim is to investigate and understand why the Sarajevo murders caused
a war to begin, when previous events such as the Moroccan Crisis did not. In order to fulfil my aim I will be considering three main points: 1) Austria's
worsening relationship with Serbia
2) The build up of international problems
3) The way the alliance system worked
A Serbian nationalist named Princip was the assassin that shot the Austrian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Russia agreed but in 1909 backed down due to German interference when they declared their support for Austria–Hungary. This is important, as
Austria–Hungary could now feel confident that they could rely on German support and so that is why in 1914 Austria–Hungary did not hesitate in
declaring war on Serbia. Furthermore the reasons why the Bosnian Crisis was not the spark that lit the bonfire are: i) Russia backed down as they
had not had enough warning to build up their arms. While by 1914 they were ready as they had been preparing from 1908 onwards and were
determined not to back down again. ii) Austria–Hungary did not feel confident they could rely on German support until after the Bosnia Crisis.
During the years leading up to the war tensions grew between the major powers of Europe. International problems developed that lead to the most
important crises in explaining why the war happened when it did. The Moroccan Crisis of 1905 was between France and Germany. France desired to
occupy Morocco as a colony and were on the verge of achieving their ambition, when Kaiser Wilhelm ll made a speech in which he said he would
support the Moroccans in their struggle against the French. It was intended to undermine the growing Anglo–French friendship as Germany thought that

The Occurrence of the 1905 Revolution and the Ineptitude...
The Occurrence of the 1905 Revolution and the Ineptitude of Tsar Nicholas II
The 1905 Revolution in Russia occurred because of a variety of long and short term causes, which led to the Tsar to lose the support of his people.
These causes comprised of the economic hardship in Russia, the refusal of the government to broaden their representation, the military failure, and the
mishandling of the 1905 crisis, "Bloody Sunday." However, the underlying factor in all of these causes is the ineptitude of Tsar Nicholas II, as he held
supreme autocratic power, and so would have been able to avoid revolution by permitting reforms. Therefore, although there were many other issues
which provoked the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Village councils, Zemstvas, were set up, and these were very successful; they organized transport of food etc. The Zemstvas success offered a more
attractive alternative to the government, which was previously unthought–of concept. The fact that people discovered an alternative to the Tsar's
government demonstrates the ineptitude of Nicholas II as he allowed the situation to escalate with minimal interference, and his people gained power
to help themselves out of poverty. The economic problems therefore led to the politicization of the Russian people.
However, after giving the Russian people the power to help themselves through the famine, the Tsar's government remained absolutely unwilling to
compromise their position. The refusal of the government to broaden their representation increased criticism of the Tsar, which could have been
avoided. The Zemstvas requested that they be consulted and allowed to express their views on matters, but Nicholas refused to comply. Instead he
relied on a system of repression to quiet the newly politicized Russia. Protesters were harshly beaten by the police, and student protesters had their
Universities closed and many were forced to spend time in the army. In a bid to divert the blame, the Tsar and his government attempted to encourage
Russian people to blame the

The Russian Revolution Of 1905
The Russian Revolution of 1905 comes as the late tsarism period. Some of the major causes to the Russian revolution were caused by long–term and
short–term effects. Some of these major effects were Russia 's rapid industrialization and modernization which had inherent problems. The rise of
capitalism led to an increase of inequality between the classes. In addition, the mistakes of the Russo–Japanese war emerged upon the boundaries of the
Russian political climate. These series of revolutionary events led to the Tsar ofRussia to issue the October Manifesto. In the October Manifesto, the
Tsar conceded powers including the creation of the Duma, which was a Russian parliament. In this idea, the Duma could pass or reject all laws
proposed by the Tsar. However, the Tsar composed the right to remove and reestablish the Duma whenever he saw fit, which only caused anger to the
people as the years continued.
The 1905 Russian Revolution was caused by contributory factors such as the long–term and short–term problems in Russia. Some long–term effects
were the growth of the reformist groups like the social democrats the social revolutionaries and other liberal groups that had formed around that time.
Another long–term effect was the instability of Russia– autocratic rule and repression which were characterized in the reigns of Alexander the III and
also in the reign of Nicholas II. However, 1905 is characterized by two primary short–term effects which is the development of the

The Bloody Sunday Massacre in 1905
Architectural buildings around the world make up one factor of the beauty and culture of each country. The Winter Palace is an incredibly beautiful
architectural building in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Winter Palace consists of great importance politically, culturally, and symbolically in the city's
third century. In 1708, the Winter Palace was first built as a wooden house with a Dutch style to be the Imperial residence of Peter the Great and his
family. In 1711, the wood was replaced by a stone building. However, in 1731 Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli was assigned to reconstruct the palace
into a much larger and newer design. The third reconstruction of the palace was completed in the year of 1735. Nevertheless, it only lasted 17 years
before Rastrelli was asked again to expand the building even more. Two years later, he decided to completely rebuild the Winter Palace after the
confirmation of the empress. (saint–petersburg.com) Ratrelli's designs for the exterior were in a Baroque style, which have remained the same till this
day. (about–eastern–europe.com) The Winter Palace takes over the Palace Square and the south embankment of the Neva River. (saint–petersburg.com)

Essay about Tsar's Survival of the 1905 Revolution
Tsar's Survival of the 1905 Revolution
In 1905 tsarism suffered a dreadful battering, Tsar Nicolas III had to cope with opposition from all sides. The workers and the army were unhappy with
their working conditions; they wanted minimum wage and more rights. The peasants wanted more land and the liberals wanted a better political
system that was more democratic and gave them more say in how the country was run. He had to contend with numerous strikes, uprisings,
assassinations and mutinies. It is surprising, therefore than the Tsar managed to remain in his throne throughout 1905.
Lack of co–ordination of his opponents played a large part in ensuring the survival of Tsar during the 1905... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Tsars guards open fired on the marchers, killing around 200 people, including women and children. This tragic event is often thought of as the
catalyst that started the Revolution; it damaged the parental image of the Tsar and evoked a wave of protest.
Russia was not united in her attempt to change the government, the peasants, workers liberals, soldiers, students… did not work together to
co–ordinate their agitation on the Tsar. The groups all had different motives and aims; the workers and soldiers wanted better working conditions while
the peasants were only focused on gaining more land, had no comprehension of the world of politics and thus did not care about the running of the
country. In contrast the educated liberal bourgeois understood that the current system was failing Russia. They could see how Russia lagged behind the
rest of the world politically, economically and technologically; it was the liberals who made the monarchy feel uneasy.
In Source 2, Trotsky says that 'the liberals backed away from the revolution exactly at the moment when it became clear that to shake tsarism would not
be enough, it must be overthrown.' Had the liberals remained consistent in their demand for change and united together with the workers then perhaps
they would have succeeded in

The Major Causes Of The Russian Revolution Of 1917 And 1905
The Russian revolution of 1917 and 1905 remain to be very significant historical events. I say this because revolutions are very rare events in history.
The Russian revolutions were milestones in Russias history, as these events changed the political system of the country. The change of political
governments was very meaningful as the autocracy caused a majority of the Russian population to be oppressed. Through the revolution, the citizens of
Russia were able to change the government's autocratic ways and enforce new socialist policies, using the teachings of Karl Marx. The poor quality of
life that the majority of Russian citizens experienced was ignored by Russia's autocratic government. The poor working conditions, poor living
conditions and the wage gap between the nobles and peasants was also swept under the rug. With the additional loss to Japan in the Russo–Japanese
war, the Russian people's hostility towards the government grew. Leading to the protests of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"It is common to see 10 or more persons living in one room and four sleeping in one bed." (Brooman 7) In addition to that "Although the nobles
were only 1 percent of the Russian population, they owned around 25 percent of all the land." (Brooman 7) The Russian hierarchy of the 1900's saw
the peasants at the bottom of the hierarchy. Although they were a majority of the population, they were seen as unequal and only fit for slaves.
Because the nobles also acted as advisor to the Tsar, they were deemed more important towards the country. This resulted in social outrage and people
wanting political change as the socialist revolutionary party believe the land should be taken from the nobles and the churches and given to the
peasants. With the hope for change ever decreasing, people demanded the system of autocracy be reformed, forcing them to take actions into their own

1905 Revolution Essay
1905 Revolution "These days we call anything a revolution…"[1] To decide whether or not any event is a revolution I must first set some
parameters to define my personal idea of what a revolution is. I believe a revolution to be a radical change of anything, not just political. I believe
this as from history labelling the Renaissance as a revolution, yet it lacked political change. In my opinion hindsight is very important to whether or
not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. I do not think revolutionary
thought is essential to whether or not an event is a revolution. To discover whether or not 1905 was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This resulted in a generalised feeling of resentment towards the Tsar even amongst his supporters. The political unrest was present through the survival
of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar's chance to quell the political unrest.
He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk–Mirskii. However, he had "political innocence"[3] and promised vague reform. Basically he was weak
and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown
through the peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their economic unrest was definitely
evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger. "The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way"[4], is a good quote
describing their movements as the word 'menacing' seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have connotations supporting the large
numbers that there were. The word 'ferment' supports the fact it peasant unrest had been building up. One major achievement I can see from the
peasant uprisings was that they were organised by themselves, demonstrating their own political thought and this was cemented in July of the year

What Are The Long Term Causes Of The 1905 Revolution
The 1905 Russia revolution began in St Petersburg, where Father Gapon and many other working people marched to the Tsar. They were upset with
the Russian government and Tsar as he would not share any of his power with the people. Long term factors played a major role in the march, these
included harsh working conditions for peasants and their wages. The loss in the Russo Japanese war led to even worse working conditions, but the
spark that ignited the fire of the 1905 revolution was inevitably Bloody Sunday.
A long term cause of the Bloody Sunday massacre was the harsh conditions that many Russians suffered under. Many of the Russian peasants were
very unhappy about the living conditions that they suffered in every day. They were also very upset with how the land was divided, as they were
unable to make a reasonable profit that could sustain their family from the little strips of land they were given. The working class were forced to live
in cramped, damp, tight barracks that offered no kind of privacy. On top of their horrible working conditions these people were forced to work long
tough days, without breaks and all for low wages that wouldn't sufficiently feed their ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Russo–Japanese war was soon to be known as the "first great war of the 20th century," this war lasted for over 18 months from 8th February 1904
to 5th September 1905. It began because of the rival ambitions of the Russian empire and the empire of Japan over Manchuria and Korea. Nicholas II

Origin of the 1905 Russian Revolution Essay
Origin of the 1905 Russian Revolution
Russia existed in turmoil at the close of the 19th century. This tumultuous atmosphere spilled over into the new century. This time period is a portrait
of a country in a state of constant change. However, this change was far more problematic to Russia that similar progress of western European nations.
An examination of the revolutionary period of 1905 presents the inevitability of such a revolution. Russia's rapid industrialization and modernization
had inherent problems. Typically, countries, which undergo rapid periods of industrialization, subvert the well being of the common individual in
favour of the progress of the nation. This was the case in a rapidly industrializing Russian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The former is the Russia of our 'intellectuals' and of the people; the other is an anachronism, deeply rooted in the past, and defended in the present by
an omnipresent bureaucracy. The one spells liberty; the other, despotism.
Throughout the history of Russia, its people have had the increasingly prevalent problem of representation. The peasant commune was essentially the
only bastion of representative government in Russia. However, the peasant commune had little influence in any political forum above that of the
village or farming community. The divining difficulty of Russia in this period was the power of Tsar Nicholas II. His ideals were rooted in the distant
past of autocrats and despots. Though he wished his nation to modernize in its production and industrialization processes, he refused to accept political
change. He continued to "impose his will on a vast empire of some 129 million people through a small imperial bureaucracy, which served at the
sovereign's pleasure." These ancient political views were circumspect in a nation attempting to modernize and improve its status within the world
community. Russian history has been characterized as an enduring line of revolution and reaction. In efforts to maintain the power of the autocracy,

How Did Lolne Contribute To Lincoln's Childhood
Born as Alex Alexander Milne, A. A. Milne was born in London, England to John Vine Milne and Sarah Maria Heginbotham Milne on January 18th,
1882 (Inventory 2). On the subject of childhood, more specifically his, Milne states that "childhood is not the happiest time of one's life, but only to
a child is pure happiness possible. Afterwards it is tainted with the knowledge that it will not last, and the fear that one will have to pay for it" (Bright

childhood at all, especially his (Mulder). During his adolescence, being the youngest of three boys meant that he did not get much attention. At least in
his perspective, it went mainly to his two older brothers making him feel very neglected. Even then he still did not get much of a bond with either
parent being under the constant care of a nanny or governess. This hurt his bond with his mother the most, he is even quoted saying that he does not

Why Did Revolution Break Out in Russia in 1905?
Why did Revolution break out in Russia in 1905? In 1905, thousands of people gathered outside the Winter Palace, demanding change and immediate
reform. Although their revolt was ultimately unsuccessful, it is important to wonder why many people were disgruntled with the Tsarist regime. It can
be argued that 1905 revolution resulted in both long–term and crucial short term factors: the long–term factors which will be discussed are peasant
land–hunger, the declining economy and the exploitation of Jews. For the first factor, I will begin by discussing the reign of Alexander II to Nicholas
II; this will allow us to show the developments in time of peasant outrage. Secondly, the essay will discuss the reign of Alexander III who began terrible

Also Alexander III failed to address the continued problem of land hunger which meant many peasants joined revolutionary groups. The group
'Narodnaya Volya' had an increase of 200 peasants in 1885; with greater scarcity of land and fewer opportunities in education for peasant teenagers
it is hardly surprising.[3] Finally under Nicholas II, between 1900 and 1905, there were strikes by peasants in the countryside due to crop failures
and less land. It was because peasants had become angered by the scarcity of land which they had experienced for many decades before the tenure of
Nicholas II's reign. However it was during this period where revolutionary activity really increased: peasant protests were localised towards the gentry
who had for many decades restricted their ability to have more land and the government whose policies failed to target the problem of land. Even Pyotr
Stolypin's reforms – aiming to improve the lot of the peasants – failed to solve the problem of land hunger. Nicholas II had been aware of the attempts
by previous tsars to abolish the peasant commune; freeing them would encourage peasants to sell yield on the market. However the key factor which
led to peasant unrest according to the historian Shmuel Galai, were the famines of the early 1900's in some parts of Russia caused by poor weather
conditions and continuous poor harvests.[4] It can be argued that famines were a key factor in

Lenin's Contribution to Marxism up to 1905 and the Consequences
Karl Marx was a German philosopher who wrote the Communist Manifesto, which encouraged workers to unite and seize power by revolution. His
views became known as Marxism and influenced the thinking of socialists throughout Europe in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Marx believed that history was evolving in a series of stages towards a perfect state – Communism. These stages started with Feudalism – with the
aristocrats controlling politics. Next would come Capitalism – with the bourgeoisie in control of politics. Finally the "perfect state" would arrive

The idea of the paper was to establish it as the leading underground revolutionary paper that would push forward the revolutionary movement.
In 1902 he published a pamphlet called " What is to be done?" This pamphlet contained his radical ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In
this pamphlet, there were three main points that Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party.
"An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is revolutionary activity… This organisation
must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as possible."
This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and do something for the party rather than sit around
and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP.
Lenin also stated;
"The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy, strictest choice of members, training of
professional revolutionaries."
Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn't want the country to know that there was a revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt
against the current government.
The third major point that Lenin made in his pamphlet was;
"We must break completely with the tradition of a purely workers or

How did the Tsar survive the 1905 Revolution? Essay
How did the Tsar survive the 1905 Revolution?
Introduction
Controversy surrounds whether or not the revolution was a "dress rehearsal" for the 1917 revolution or a missed opportunity for Tsar Nicholas II to
consolidate a constitutional monarchy.
This dissertation will focus on the survival of the Tsar, as it is ultimately an open question whether he would have saved the monarchy. The
dissertation will also reveal that in the Tsar's heart was more in reaction than reform. This coursework will show that part of the key to the monarchy's
survival was the division of the opponents of Tsarism. It took World War I to cause a major breakdown in relations that left the monarchy open to further
revolution through total war.

The loyal army was able to contain the "major threat" of mutiny and riots after the war with Japan, the economic reforms helped to buy off the
peasantry and political parties were divided by aims, social class, and often poorly led. The provision of votes, the Tsar's promise of "participatory
politics" and a chance at Parliament helped to "take out the fire" of the Kadets (Parliamentary Liberals).
Repression and Loyalty of the Forces
The armed forces were to apply the idea of, "to counter terror with terror" with Wheatcroft commenting, "in the end it was the methods of Ivan the
Terrible, or at least Peter the Great, which provided the key to the situation." The army was able to arrest 260 of the Soviet (half its members).
Desperate rebellions in Moscow (up to a thousand revolutionaries) were suppressed by regular troops. Mutinous soldiers along the Trans–Siberian
railway were also executed, even with most of the army being in Japan. With the introduction of the Imperial Manifesto, military discipline was largely
restored by the end of the year.
During the event of Bloody Sunday, troops successfully defended the Winter Palace. It was obvious that the Nicholas's paternal image and as the
leader of their church was now severely weakened due to the numbers of deaths during a peaceful protest.

The Comparison And Contrast Of The 1905 And February...
The Comparison and Contrast of The 1905 and February Revolution There is a substantial difference between the 1905 Russian Revolution and the
February Russian Revolution. To begin with, a revolution is defined as a major, sudden and therefore usually violent alteration in government and in
related associations and structures. The nature and origin of these two revolutions were somewhat similar, but there were still many differences that
outweighed the similarities. The origins of the two revolutions differ. The 1905 revolution happened due to long term discontent such as the
dissatisfaction of peasants of workers following Witte's economic policies of squeezing the peasants out of more money than anyone could afford, or
the oppression of intelligentsia that occured to stop the ideals of modernisation– something the Tsar was not able to adapt to. Also, the nationalism of
minority groups submitted to Russification was growing. While the dissatisfaction remained intact when... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1905 revolution, 400,000 peasants went on strike. The February revolution also had the soldiers on its side– one of the main reasons why
the 1905 revolution was not a success, was that soldiers were ordered to shoot at the civilians (such as during Bloody Sunday, the spark of the 1905
revolution, during which shots were fired at peaceful protesters) while during the February Revolution the soldiers refused to shoot at the protesting
crowds and eventually joined in the protests against the Tsar, whose support was fastly eroding. Officers were beaten up and even killed and
therefore Nicholas II lost control of the army. This is extremely significant as with the soldiers battling against oppressive autocracy, there was a small
line of defense for the Tsar and opposition to the Revolution could be taken out easily (such as police). With the majority of people against the Tsar,
united in their battle, their chances of success

The Revolution Of The 1905 Revolution
One of the many questions that revolve around the 1905 Revolution in Russia is whether the Tsar himself or other factors were responsible for the
creation of the revolution. While all the passages emphasise the point throughout that there was huge discontentment in Russia, the Interpretations
disagree as to the reason for this discontentment that formed the revolution. Interpretation A persuasively demonstrates that the Tsar himself and his
weakness as an autocrat was the main reason for the Revolution. The argument is Passage C is also convincing to a large extent, but as will be
discussed, merely supports the view of A. Interpretations D and B are able to be severely criticised, Passage D attempts to argue that the revolution
was caused by the existence of long term resentments against Tsarism. Passage B, on the other hand, attempts to argue that the revolution was driven
by the proletariat force. However both D and B, as we shall see, are unconvincing arguments. It is difficult to contradict the fact that the Tsar and his
own failings were responsible for the 1905 revolution. More succinct Interpretation A agrees with the hypothesis and successfully argues that the Tsar
was the underlying cause of the Revolution. A argues that it was the Tsar's decision to "maintain the principle of autocracy" and the fact that he lacked
"the willpower and personality of [his] father" which created the 1905 Revolution. A is correct to say that the Tsar maintained an unflinching grasp on

Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail
Why did the 1905 revolution fail?
One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely only satisfied the middle classes' appetite for
reform. However this was only a short term change in government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To
add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government's political and economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a
revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did
not have any control on the state's finance. To add, another reason why the 1905 revolution failed was because after the... Show more content on

The War Of 1905 And The United States
After the expansion of power in the federal government in domestic affairs, the Progressive presidents did not want to project American power outside
of the borders just yet. At first, their interventions were primarily in the Western Hemisphere. Between 1901 and 1920, U.S. marines landed in
Caribbean countries over twenty times. These ships were sent off to establish stable access to raw materials like sugar and bananas, and for the bankers
with loans to local governments that might not be repaid. Theodore Roosevelt divided the world into "civilized" and "uncivilized" nations. Roosevelt
became extremely active in international diplomacy, more so than his predecessors. For example, he helped to negotiate a settlement of the
Russo–Japanese War of 1905, for this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declared that the Untied States did not have the slightest
desire to expand territory, however, he engaged an intervention in Central America. His first major action in the region was the separation of Panama
from Columbia in order to construct a canal that would link the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This idea was long before thought about in history. Since
Roosevelt was an an advocate for the American naval development, he was convinced that a canal would prove to be prosperous to the movement of
naval and commercial ships between the two oceans. The construction of the Panama Canal was not available until the establishment of their
independence from Columbia.

Furthermore, the nation will go deeper into debt with the rest of the world as Americans continue to rely on the strong flow of foreign money,
particularly from central banks in Asia, to finance the trade gap. China, Japan and other foreign governments are some of the biggest holders of
government securities, lending money to cover the substantial federal budget deficit and helping to keep interest rates and home mortgage costs here
relatively low. As a result, American consumers are able to spend more and save less. The Effects of the Unbalanced Trade The vast majority (about
three fourths) of our trade deficit in manufactured goods is caused by imbalanced trade flows with Asia, as shown in Figure 2. The deficits with Asia
are large and rapidly growing, despite very high rates of growth in the region until 1997. Europe and NAFTA were each responsible for about 13% of

The Russian Revolution had happened for two years from 1904 to 1906. Before all of the revolution of 1905 in Russia happened, problems since the
years before 1905 triggered a long run of anger and rage of the Russian citizens. The industrial workers were the biggest group that had received great
hardships and the biggest contributors to the Russian Revolution. They could not handle the very low payment and long working hours, 14 hours in
average, and soon ended up revolting and rising riots and marches all around the Russian land. The conditions in Russia were horrible as well as

lead to the 1905 Revolution. All over the country, strikes rose with complains that people of Russia do not have enough civil rights or liberties.
Peasants attacked their landlords' homes and took over their properties from flocks to lands. Large group of lawyers, doctors, students, engineers and
other middle–class citizens demanded constitutional assembly over autocracy and establishment of Union of Unions. As the strikes were spreading all
over Russia, one of the well–known strikes was the Potemkin Munity. In June 1905, sailors of the Potemkin battleship were complaining about their
meat to be served rotten. Captains of the battleships were frightened that this action might lead to bigger strikes and ordered the crews who had
complaints to be killed. However, soldiers who were ordered by the captains on the battleship refused the command and threw their captains

African American Oppression Between 1865 And 1905
Oppression is a common theme in history. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are inevitably strengthened by the oppression through
commitment and perseverance. African Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of
slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between 1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but
remained united in their fight to gain independence.
In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the South, freed African Americans continued to be
killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period of 1865–1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen
were still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. African Americans were oppressed in many regards, a great example of this is
the black codes. These codes were written into Louisiana law which prohibited blacks from passing within the limits of said parish without a special

Why Is Bloody Sunday Important To The 1905 Revolution
Prior to 1905 the average Russian industrial employee had an average working day of 11 hours. Most of these workers faced very difficult conditions
on a daily basis with little concern being shown for their safety and well–being, which led to much unrest. Many tried to create trade unions, however,
this was almost always prevented by the owners of the factories. In 1903, Father Gapon (a priest) formed the Assembly of Russian Workers, and
within the space of a year it had more that 9,000 members. [Simkin. J. (1997). 1905 Russian Revolution. Available: http://spartacus–educational.com

On this day Father Gapon led a group of workers to the Tsar's Winter Palace in a peaceful march to present a petition to the Tsar in which they
demanded better working conditions. Their demands included an 8 hour day, a minimum wage and freedom of speech and press. This shows us
that the workers were tired of the conditions they were facing, and they wanted reform. However, during the peaceful protest the guards of the
Winter Palace began to open fire, killing around 200 and injuring around 500. [Dawson. J. Class notes on the 1905 Revolution. Last accessed 16th

felt as though they were being let down and attacked by the "Little Father" who they were sure would have sympathised with them. By the end of

and terrorist acts became common as Russia descended into anarchy. This was important as it shows us that Tsar Nicholas II was now at war with
his own people. Overall, Bloody Sunday was definitely an important factor as it started a chain of events that are now known as the 1905 revolution.
Historian Orlando Figes argues "The revolution had been truly born. In one vital moment the popular myth of a Good Tsar had been completely

of the Russian people." (Khrustalev and M. Steinberg 19). Although the Duma allowed for slightly more political involvement by the people, the tsar
remained the supreme autocrat (Chamberlin). Nicholas II's rule continued, albeit much shakier than before. He decided to convene the Duma four
times altogether, each time experiencing conflict stemming from their calls for liberal reform and Nicholas's refusal to compromise (Chamberlin). In
the wake of the 1905 Revolution, Nicholas II was committed to the ideal that traditionally conservative values and structures were necessary for Russia
's survival, and that failure to maintain these policies would be the cause of the decline of Russia sovereignty (Khrustalev and Steinberg 5). Nicholas's
conservative response to the revolution was misguided, completely

Analysis of the Increase in Charitable Giving Despite...
Despite 2008 seeing the largest annual drop ((5.6% decrease from 2007 in inflation–adjusted dollars)) since these statistics have been tracked, over
$300 billion was donated to charitable organizations–three–quarters of which came from individual donors. (FOUDNATION CENTER CITATION) It
is no wonder then that such a large amount of academic study has been invested in the subject. A myriad of studies have sought to investigate the
motivations behind the phenomenon of charitable giving. Everything from an individual's mood (Krebs, 1970; Piliavin & Charng, 1990; Simmons,
1991), gender (Burnett, 1981; Cermak, File, & Prince, 1994; Halfpenny, 1990; Jones & Posnett, 1991; Piliavin & Charng, 1990), perception of a

This extensive study has lead to a shift in the way nonprofits organize fundraising campaigns. Marketing literature has had an extensive history of
promoting the utilization of capitalistic marketing strategies by non–profit organizations–dating as far back as the 1960s. (Kotler) With
ever–decreasing government contributions and an inundation of new nonprofits (and with it, new competition), fundraising within the nonprofit sector
has shifted from a discombobulated exercise of necessity to a fundamental business operation similar to the advertising and branding campaigns of
for–profit companies. (Schlegelmilch & Ltd, 1988). The COCOA Experiment: So why do another study? While previous studies focused on an
individual's motivation for (and the characteristics of) giving to charities in general, predicting the amount donated, or pro–social characteristics related
to donations and volunteerism, this study proposed focusing on

The Long-Term Causes Of The 1905 Revolution
Many things caused the 1905 revolution. There were a great number of long–term issues, short–term issues and recent issues that lead to the revolution.
There was a large deal of long–term causes of the 1905 revolution. Two of them being the fact that peasants were unhappy with their living conditions
and how land was divided up, and the government's policies to develop industry had negative effects on people, and were hindered by famine and
industrial slumps. Peasants were unhappy with their living conditions for a large time, with peasants for a large amount of time being slaves until the
emancipation in 1961, in which they were promised land but not given it. Land was not equally spread amongst Russia's citizens and the nobility held a
large amount of land compared to the peasants, even after the emancipation. This led to discontent with the government and its policies from the
peasants. The government's attempts at industrialising Russia also were a long–term cause in the 1905 revolution. 3 officials attempted to industrialise
Russia through different methods. They attempted to stimulate industry by raising prices and placing tariffs, they attempted to stimulate industry by
lowering tax on peasants so they could spend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The middle class were overall very unhappy with the large amount of power the tsar had and that he did not share it. During this time the tsar was
looked to almost as a father figure of the nation, and that he would be helpful to his people. This made the middle class unhappy with his lack of
action and discontent. The middle class were also extremely overworked and had no power to change this leaving them even more unhappy with the
tsar and his ineffectiveness in handling their

Bridgeton Industries: Automotive Component & Fabrication Plan
Bridgeton Industries:
Automotive Component & Fabrication Plant
The Automotive Component and Fabrication Plant (ACF) was the original plant site for Bridgeton Industries, a major supplier of components for the
domestic automotive industry. It manufactured fuel tanks, manifolds, doors, muffler/exhausts and oil pans. All its products were sold to Big Three
domestic automobile manufactures. Competition was from local suppliers and other Bridgeton plants. The plant well grew and developed as far as the
market dominated by U.S automobile manufactures. It became less effective when foreign competition and scarce, expensive gasoline caused domestic
loss of market share. Throughout the 1980s, the ACF experienced serious cutbacks due to this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second, they would drop one product of manifold.
When the product of manifold was not dropped, assume that the selling prices, volumes and material costs for the year 1991 model would not change
for fuel tanks and doors. Therefore, the budget year of 1991was the report of 1990 and it was not changed for 1991 (see table 4).
When manifold line was dropped, the situation of 1991 in comparation to 1990 was similar to the situation of 1988 in comparation to 1989.
Assume that the change of the overhead per the change of labor cost of 1988 and 1989 was the situation of 1990 and 1991 and was not changed equal
to 2.7 (see table 5). Assume that the direct labor cost of 1991 for the product dropped manifolds was the direct labor cost of that product in 1990 (see
table 5). The total direct material of 1991 was $33,821 (see table 6), the direct labor was $7,562; the total overhead was $61,741 and the rate of
overhead per direct labor was 816% (see table 5).
(Question 6) It is clear that if they drop manifold the overhead per direct labor increases too many to 816% (see table 5) but the most important
thing was that total gross income decrease too many from $63,501 in 1990 to $30,298 in 1991 (see table 6). The recommendation based on the model
year budget of 1991 (see table 6) was that they should not outsource manifolds from the ACF in 1991 because it make the total gross income of the
company dramatically decrease. A lot of other information should take

Significant Long Term Causes Of The 1905 Russian Revolution

  • 1. Significant Long Term Causes Of The 1905 Russian Revolution Intro The Autocratic system within Russia which was put into place for 300 years was one of the significant long term causes for the Russian 1905 revolution. The ideas surrounding the autocratic system meant that there was no parliament but one ruler who was Tsar Nicholas the II who had absolute power and believed that he had been given this power by divine right. The autocratic control over Russia involved russification which meant that the other cultures and languages being practiced were to be prohibited in order to try and unify Russia as it was so vast. To help control people from this, the Okhrana were put in place all over Russia to prevent people from practising any other Culture other than Russian and to control the bands of counter–revolutionaries ... In 1905 the working conditions for the peasants and proletariat workers were poor and their rights with their employers were non existent but they still had loyalty towards the Tsar and believed in his leadership. Because The peasants and the workers thought that the Tsar would be willing to help them, they went on a strike, drafted a petition to give directly to him outside Winter palace expecting for him to listen to them and to grant them basic necessities. Within the petition they requested reduction of the working hours, higher wages, Medical attention to be given carefully and considerately and making sure that factories are safe for them to work in without risk of death. On 9th of January, the day of the march, the workers marched peacefully with their families carrying pictures of the Tsar as a sign of respect. But the Tsar was aware of the March that was happening and had no intention of reading the petition as he thought that he could maintain his power and loyalty without agreeing to the workers needs so left the night before, leaving his police to guard the winter palace. As the marchers advanced to the Winter palace and were met with the police who immediately shot on them, killing hundreds of the workers and their family. Land that had been theirs for roughly 40,000 years was stripped from the Indigenous Australians and all rights were taken away. Most settlers were extremely racist and wanted the Indigenous Australians gone. One settler from Hunter Valley went as far as comparing the Aborigines to apes (Wilson–Miller, 2011). The 1905 Act in WesternAustralia was then drawn up to provide the Aborigines care and protection. The 1905 Act with its long list of rules and regulations did everything but provide care and protection. Aborigines were carefully watched and everything they did was monitored. ... • 3. Essay on Tsar After 1905 Tsar After 1905 It would be true to say that the Tsar remained unscathed after 1905, as he remained on the throne until 1917. However, it would also be true to say that the Tsar was permanently damaged by the 1905 revolution. Before 1905, there was much unrest and discontent. Famines in 1897, 1898 and 1901, made the already struggling countryside even worse, and the usually loyal peasantry held uprisings in two provinces in 1902. The Russo–Japanese war caused further unrest following a series of defeats, including that of Port Arthur. This caused revolutionary outbreaks to spread rapidly throughoutRussia and gave way for various Liberal groups to press for their demands for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nicolas II was forced to make concessions. He would never fully recover from this event as Revolutionaries saw this as an example where violence achieved aims. On 3rd March1905, the Tsar offered a consultative assembly to try and bring an end to the violence. The rest of 1905 continued in a similar way. Defeats in Japan caused further outrage in Russia, which caused the Tsar to make further concessions. For example; the Battle of Tsushima on the 27th May, (where the Russian Baltic fleet were destroyed), lead to a disorder of widespread strikes in June and August, which lead to the Tsar promising an Imperial Duma on the 19th August. The formation of the Union of Unions on the 8th March was significant, as the middle classes and peasants formed new opposition to the Tsar. This affected the Tsar long–term as never before had these groups opposed him. Nicholas II was forced to introduce new measures to regain the support of these people. Further defeats at Mukden and Tsushima meant that the Tsar was in danger of loosing more support. His repeated pledges of March were ridiculed as no plans were put into action and further protests continued. During the summer, the Tsar's position worsened as his own troops turned against him. Several ships went on strike due to poor conditions and in June,

  • 5. Compare and Contrast the Causes of the 1905 and 1917... Compare and contrast the causes of the 1905 and 1917 revolutions in Russia In 1905 and 1917 Russia was tormented by chaotic revolutions. The workers and the intelligentsia had arrived at the point of hating the autocracy because they could no longer endure the suffering, hunger and repression that the tsarist policies brought with them. Years later Lenin referred to the revolution of 1905 as a "dress rehearsal for the October Revolution" of 1917. In 1905 tsardom nearly fell. Nicholas II succeeded in remaining in power, stabilizing the situation, only thanks to various concessions. However, his continuing to rule harshly and unwisely brought him to be forced to abdicate in the February of 1917, signing the end of the Russian monarchy.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The power still has to be snatched from the hands of the old rulers and handed over to the revolution. That is the fundamental task. A general strike only creates the necessary preconditions; it is quite inadequate for achieving the task itself"(Trotsky). The ineffectiveness of the strikes can be found in the fact that in nearly every occasion the soldiers were ordered to shoot on the crowd, stopping the revolts and leaving the tsar as obnoxious to the situation as before. Also the peasants in the countryside suffered land–hunger due to the growth of population caused by the decreased of mortality rates. Backwardness was also caused by the "open field system", which didn't motivate the peasants to improve their machinery or seeding methods since their land would be taken away from them and redistributed when a member of the community died. Nicholas II was a weak, indecisive and obstinate ruler who, being very conservative and reactionary, used extensively the secret police ("Third Section") and the army to suppress uprisings and political enemies. He alienated the intelligentsia and angered the liberals with his lack of political participation and exaggerated reliance on the Fundamental laws, which said that the tsar was appointed by god and was rightfully in charge of the country. As a response, the liberals initiated a banquet campaign that started in November 1904, and ended in January 1905 with the aim of making the tsar give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Causes of the 1905 Revolution The 1905 revolution in Russia began when armed forces set fire on a group of peaceful protestors outside the Tsar's Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. However there were many factors in the build–up to revolution in 1905. Prior to 1905, disturbances in Russia could have been seen as quite rare. Russia was though suffering from a long period of repression and unrest. From the implementation of tsarism in Russia, the regimes had slowly developed into more of an autocratic establishment which implemented it's will onto the people with lesser regard for human life and liberty. Since the 1860's there had been gradual changes in governmental, legal, social and economic policy implemented, however the political system was left unchanged. ... The mood prior to the 1905 revolution in Russia was a quiet but angry one. The peasants and workers situation was slowly worsening, only made worse by bad harvest and economic reforms implemented by the tsarist government which left the poor even poorer. The tsarist regime had always been, but was becoming more and more repressive and undemocratic. • 8. The Transference Across The Case Of Dora ( 1905 ) Essay In this essay we will firstly give a brief outline of what transference is. Then we will discuss the transference across the case of Dora (1905). Kahn (1991) claims that according to Freud, when entering therapy, a patient's view of and reaction to their therapist is influenced by two tendencies. Firstly, the patient will view this relationship in the light of their earliest relationships, and secondly that they will try and incite replays of early difficult situations. Jacobs (2010) describes this transference as the repetition by the patient of former, often child–like patterns of relating to significant people, such as parents, but now viewed in relation to the therapist. The author goes on to claim that the therapist becomes, for the patient, a transference figure with whom the patient has an opportunity to relive or to find the type of parent–child relationship he or she might have wished for, or even to some extent had. The transference is a way of seeing past relationships in the context of here–and–now. Bruce (1956) states that "transference, viewed as the transfer of affect (evoked in the past by people and events) into the here and now of the analytic setting, means that the analysand must be able to project onto the analyst a whole series of emotions felt in relation to significant figures from his or her past and present" (Bruce, 1956, P. 40). So, feelings and ideas that the patient may have about the therapist seen in the transference aspect of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Regime Of The 1905 Revolution It is evident that Nicholas II was mainly to blame for the 1905, due to his lack of response to the growing discontent amongst the Russian people. Although it could be argued that the actions of previous Tsars were the cause of this discontent, and this was certainly influential, Nicholas ' failure to act upon his people 's requests was ultimately the cause of the revolution. The repressive Tsarist system in place in 1905 was arguably one of the most significant factors in the 1905 revolution, as much of the discontent in Russia was due to anger at Nicholas ' autocratic Tsarist government. It could be argued that the repressive Tsarist system was not the fault of Nicholas II, but instead a problem that had been in existence for decades before his reign began. For example, Nicholas ' predecessor Alexander III was also committed to the preservation of the autocracy, and arguably took steps towards repression, through Russification and censorship, in addition to the introduction of the Okhrana. Therefore, it could be argued that Nicholas was not to blame for the repressive Tsarist system or its consequences, due to the fact that it had been in existence before his reign began. However, as Nicholas did little to stop the government being so repressive, it could be argued that he was still to blame. Despite widespread calls for reform from individuals such as Father Gapon, these requests were not acted upon, so in some ways Nicholas II can be held to account for the ... The Sarajevo Murders and the Moroccan Crisis in 1905 In the years leading up to the Sarajevo murders and the outbreak of World War 1 many events took place that led to the building of tension between the 6 main powers of Europe, although, none of these events caused a war. My aim is to investigate and understand why the Sarajevo murders caused a war to begin, when previous events such as the Moroccan Crisis did not. In order to fulfil my aim I will be considering three main points: 1) Austria's worsening relationship with Serbia 2) The build up of international problems 3) The way the alliance system worked A Serbian nationalist named Princip was the assassin that shot the Austrian... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Russia agreed but in 1909 backed down due to German interference when they declared their support for Austria–Hungary. This is important, as Austria–Hungary could now feel confident that they could rely on German support and so that is why in 1914 Austria–Hungary did not hesitate in declaring war on Serbia. Furthermore the reasons why the Bosnian Crisis was not the spark that lit the bonfire are: i) Russia backed down as they had not had enough warning to build up their arms. While by 1914 they were ready as they had been preparing from 1908 onwards and were determined not to back down again. ii) Austria–Hungary did not feel confident they could rely on German support until after the Bosnia Crisis. During the years leading up to the war tensions grew between the major powers of Europe. International problems developed that lead to the most important crises in explaining why the war happened when it did. The Moroccan Crisis of 1905 was between France and Germany. France desired to occupy Morocco as a colony and were on the verge of achieving their ambition, when Kaiser Wilhelm ll made a speech in which he said he would support the Moroccans in their struggle against the French. The Occurrence of the 1905 Revolution and the Ineptitude of Tsar Nicholas II The 1905 Revolution in Russia occurred because of a variety of long and short term causes, which led to the Tsar to lose the support of his people. These causes comprised of the economic hardship in Russia, the refusal of the government to broaden their representation, the military failure, and the mishandling of the 1905 crisis, "Bloody Sunday." However, the underlying factor in all of these causes is the ineptitude of Tsar Nicholas II, as he held supreme autocratic power, and so would have been able to avoid revolution by permitting reforms. Village councils, Zemstvas, were set up, and these were very successful; they organized transport of food etc. The Zemstvas success offered a more attractive alternative to the government, which was previously unthought–of concept. The fact that people discovered an alternative to the Tsar's government demonstrates the ineptitude of Nicholas II as he allowed the situation to escalate with minimal interference, and his people gained power to help themselves out of poverty. The economic problems therefore led to the politicization of the Russian people. However, after giving the Russian people the power to help themselves through the famine, the Tsar's government remained absolutely unwilling to compromise their position. The refusal of the government to broaden their representation increased criticism of the Tsar, which could have been avoided. The Zemstvas requested that they be consulted and allowed to express their views on matters, but Nicholas refused to comply. Instead he relied on a system of repression to quiet the newly politicized Russia. • 12. The Russian Revolution Of 1905 The Russian Revolution of 1905 comes as the late tsarism period. Some of the major causes to the Russian revolution were caused by long–term and short–term effects. Some of these major effects were Russia 's rapid industrialization and modernization which had inherent problems. The rise of capitalism led to an increase of inequality between the classes. In addition, the mistakes of the Russo–Japanese war emerged upon the boundaries of the Russian political climate. These series of revolutionary events led to the Tsar ofRussia to issue the October Manifesto. In the October Manifesto, the Tsar conceded powers including the creation of the Duma, which was a Russian parliament. In this idea, the Duma could pass or reject all laws proposed by the Tsar. However, the Tsar composed the right to remove and reestablish the Duma whenever he saw fit, which only caused anger to the people as the years continued. The 1905 Russian Revolution was caused by contributory factors such as the long–term and short–term problems in Russia. Some long–term effects were the growth of the reformist groups like the social democrats the social revolutionaries and other liberal groups that had formed around that time. Another long–term effect was the instability of Russia– autocratic rule and repression which were characterized in the reigns of Alexander the III and also in the reign of Nicholas II. However, 1905 is characterized by two primary short–term effects which is the development of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Winter Palace is an incredibly beautiful architectural building in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Winter Palace consists of great importance politically, culturally, and symbolically in the city's third century. In 1708, the Winter Palace was first built as a wooden house with a Dutch style to be the Imperial residence of Peter the Great and his family. In 1711, the wood was replaced by a stone building. However, in 1731 Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli was assigned to reconstruct the palace into a much larger and newer design. The third reconstruction of the palace was completed in the year of 1735. Nevertheless, it only lasted 17 years before Rastrelli was asked again to expand the building even more. The workers and the army were unhappy with their working conditions; they wanted minimum wage and more rights. The peasants wanted more land and the liberals wanted a better political system that was more democratic and gave them more say in how the country was run. He had to contend with numerous strikes, uprisings, assassinations and mutinies. It is surprising, therefore than the Tsar managed to remain in his throne throughout 1905. The groups all had different motives and aims; the workers and soldiers wanted better working conditions while the peasants were only focused on gaining more land, had no comprehension of the world of politics and thus did not care about the running of the country. In contrast the educated liberal bourgeois understood that the current system was failing Russia. They could see how Russia lagged behind the rest of the world politically, economically and technologically; it was the liberals who made the monarchy feel uneasy. I say this because revolutions are very rare events in history. The Russian revolutions were milestones in Russias history, as these events changed the political system of the country. The change of political governments was very meaningful as the autocracy caused a majority of the Russian population to be oppressed. Through the revolution, the citizens of Russia were able to change the government's autocratic ways and enforce new socialist policies, using the teachings of Karl Marx. The poor quality of life that the majority of Russian citizens experienced was ignored by Russia's autocratic government. The poor working conditions, poor living conditions and the wage gap between the nobles and peasants was also swept under the rug. In my opinion hindsight is very important to whether or not something is a revolution. I think you can only decide if something was revolutionary if you can see its consequences. The political unrest was present through the survival of a poor Minister of the Interior, Viacheslav von Plehve, until 1904 when he was assassinated. This was the Tsar's chance to quell the political unrest. He chose a new minister in Prince Sviatopolk–Mirskii. However, he had "political innocence"[3] and promised vague reform. Basically he was weak and this weakness annoyed both wings of the political spectrum sustaining the political unrest throughout 1905. Economical unrest is best shown through the peasants. They were heavy under the weight of redemption payments and oppressive taxes and their economic unrest was definitely evident preceding 1905, and throughout 1905 they vented their anger. "The ferment in the countryside grew in a menacing way"[4], is a good quote describing their movements as the word 'menacing' seems to suggest they were very dangerous and seems to have connotations supporting the large numbers that there were. They were upset with the Russian government and Tsar as he would not share any of his power with the people. Long term factors played a major role in the march, these included harsh working conditions for peasants and their wages. The loss in the Russo Japanese war led to even worse working conditions, but the spark that ignited the fire of the 1905 revolution was inevitably Bloody Sunday. A long term cause of the Bloody Sunday massacre was the harsh conditions that many Russians suffered under. Many of the Russian peasants were very unhappy about the living conditions that they suffered in every day. They were also very upset with how the land was divided, as they were unable to make a reasonable profit that could sustain their family from the little strips of land they were given. In 1905, thousands of people gathered outside the Winter Palace, demanding change and immediate reform. Although their revolt was ultimately unsuccessful, it is important to wonder why many people were disgruntled with the Tsarist regime. It can be argued that 1905 revolution resulted in both long–term and crucial short term factors: the long–term factors which will be discussed are peasant land–hunger, the declining economy and the exploitation of Jews. Also Alexander III failed to address the continued problem of land hunger which meant many peasants joined revolutionary groups. The group 'Narodnaya Volya' had an increase of 200 peasants in 1885; with greater scarcity of land and fewer opportunities in education for peasant teenagers it is hardly surprising.[3] Finally under Nicholas II, between 1900 and 1905, there were strikes by peasants in the countryside due to crop failures and less land. It was because peasants had become angered by the scarcity of land which they had experienced for many decades before the tenure of Nicholas II's reign. However it was during this period where revolutionary activity really increased: peasant protests were localised towards the gentry who had for many decades restricted their ability to have more land and the government whose policies failed to target the problem of land. Even Pyotr Stolypin's reforms – aiming to improve the lot of the peasants – failed to solve the problem of land hunger. Nicholas II had been aware of the attempts by previous tsars to abolish the peasant commune; freeing them would encourage peasants to sell yield on the market. However the key factor which led to peasant unrest according to the historian Shmuel Galai, were the famines of the early 1900's in some parts of Russia caused by poor weather conditions and continuous poor harvests.[4] It can be argued that famines were a key factor in ... In 1902 he published a pamphlet called " What is to be done?" This pamphlet contained his radical ideas towards the nature of a revolutionary party. In this pamphlet, there were three main points that Lenin made in relation to the role of a revolutionary party. "An organisation of revolutionaries must contain primarily and chiefly people whose occupation is revolutionary activity… This organisation must necessarily be not very broad, and as secret as possible." This idea was stating that he wanted the party to consist of activists. He wanted people to go out and do something for the party rather than sit around and do nothing to help the cause of the party. This idea was later to contribute towards the split of the RSDWP. Lenin also stated; "The one serious organisational principle for workers in our movement must be the strictest secrecy, strictest choice of members, training of professional revolutionaries." Lenin wanted the party to be professional and didn't want the country to know that there was a revolutionary party being constructed that was to revolt against the current government.

To begin with, a revolution is defined as a major, sudden and therefore usually violent alteration in government and in related associations and structures. The nature and origin of these two revolutions were somewhat similar, but there were still many differences that outweighed the similarities. The origins of the two revolutions differ. The 1905 revolution happened due to long term discontent such as the dissatisfaction of peasants of workers following Witte's economic policies of squeezing the peasants out of more money than anyone could afford, or the oppression of intelligentsia that occured to stop the ideals of modernisation– something the Tsar was not able to adapt to. Interpretations D and B are able to be severely criticised, Passage D attempts to argue that the revolution was caused by the existence of long term resentments against Tsarism. Passage B, on the other hand, attempts to argue that the revolution was driven by the proletariat force. However both D and B, as we shall see, are unconvincing arguments. It is difficult to contradict the fact that the Tsar and his own failings were responsible for the 1905 revolution. More succinct Interpretation A agrees with the hypothesis and successfully argues that the Tsar was the underlying cause of the Revolution. A argues that it was the Tsar's decision to "maintain the principle of autocracy" and the fact that he lacked "the willpower and personality of [his] father" which created the 1905 Revolution. • 28. Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail Why did the 1905 revolution fail? One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely only satisfied the middle classes' appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add, the readiness of the liberals to accept the government's political and economical bribes indicted that they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did not have any control on the state's finance. • 29. The War Of 1905 And The United States After the expansion of power in the federal government in domestic affairs, the Progressive presidents did not want to project American power outside of the borders just yet. At first, their interventions were primarily in the Western Hemisphere. Between 1901 and 1920, U.S. marines landed in Caribbean countries over twenty times. These ships were sent off to establish stable access to raw materials like sugar and bananas, and for the bankers with loans to local governments that might not be repaid. Theodore Roosevelt divided the world into "civilized" and "uncivilized" nations. Roosevelt became extremely active in international diplomacy, more so than his predecessors. For example, he helped to negotiate a settlement of the Russo–Japanese War of 1905, for this he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt declared that the Untied States did not have the slightest desire to expand territory, however, he engaged an intervention in Central America. His first major action in the region was the separation of Panama from Columbia in order to construct a canal that would link the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. This idea was long before thought about in history. Since Roosevelt was an an advocate for the American naval development, he was convinced that a canal would prove to be prosperous to the movement of naval and commercial ships between the two oceans. The construction of the Panama Canal was not available until the establishment of their independence from Columbia. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the second quarter of 2004, the trade deficit relative to GDP surpassed the 5 percent mark for the first time. Many economists already considered trade deficits above 4 percent of GDP dangerously high. Whether it is based on race or gender the oppressed are inevitably strengthened by the oppression through commitment and perseverance. African Americans were one of the most significant examples of oppression in American history. The emancipation of slavery in 1865 signified the slow fight for freedom and equality for African Americans. Between 1865 and 1905 they suffered extreme oppression, but remained united in their fight to gain independence. In 1865 all slaves were emancipated which declared them free, but racism was far from over. In the South, freed African Americans continued to be killed as an act of racial violence. Between the period of 1865–1905 African Americans fought to defeat their oppression. By the year 1905, freedmen were still fighting for the same rights they were fighting for in 1865. Most of these workers faced very difficult conditions on a daily basis with little concern being shown for their safety and well–being, which led to much unrest. Many tried to create trade unions, however, this was almost always prevented by the owners of the factories. However, during the peaceful protest the guards of the Winter Palace began to open fire, killing around 200 and injuring around 500. [Dawson. J. Class notes on the 1905 Revolution. The Revolution Of The 1905 Revolution Essay This along with his eagerness to arrest, imprison, exile, and hang his opponents only further divided the tsar from the working class, earning him the nickname "Nicholas the Bloody" (Khrustalev and M. Albeit the violent suppression of the 1905 Revolution, in the end it was regarded by revolutionaries as semi–successful. Nicholas II agreed to the institution of the State Duma, a limited form of representative democracy, citing it as "the revival of a custom and as a means to better hear the voice of the Russian people." (Khrustalev and M. Steinberg 19). Although the Duma allowed for slightly more political involvement by the people, the tsar remained the supreme autocrat (Chamberlin). Nicholas II's rule continued, albeit much shakier than before. He decided to convene the Duma four times altogether, each time experiencing conflict stemming from their calls for liberal reform and Nicholas's refusal to compromise (Chamberlin). In the wake of the 1905 Revolution, Nicholas II was committed to the ideal that traditionally conservative values and structures were necessary for Russia 's survival, and that failure to maintain these policies would be the cause of the decline of Russia sovereignty (Khrustalev and Steinberg 5). There were a great number of long–term issues, short–term issues and recent issues that lead to the revolution. There was a large deal of long–term causes of the 1905 revolution. Two of them being the fact that peasants were unhappy with their living conditions and how land was divided up, and the government's policies to develop industry had negative effects on people, and were hindered by famine and industrial slumps. Peasants were unhappy with their living conditions for a large time, with peasants for a large amount of time being slaves until the emancipation in 1961, in which they were promised land but not given it.
