1. “LEI OF REMEMBRANCE”
Gold Star Mother & Family Day Ceremony
National Cemetery of the Pacific
Sunday, 27 September 2015 1pm
All Veterans and Ohana are invited to join Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families on this
special day as we
“Honor & Remember” those who served our Nation in times of War and Peace.
A ceremony will be held at the base of the steps leading to Lady Columbia (who represents Grieving Mothers) beginning
at 1pm. Gold Star Families will proceed up the stairs making a presentation of Boots and Leis. Families will then proceed
down the steps to join those already gathered for the Lei of Remembrance.
The “Lei of Remembrance” will require 400 individuals each with an open “fresh” flower Lei, that will be joined together
by each person tying their Lei to those on the left and the right. Following the blowing of the conch and the playing of
the last note TAPS, this continuous Lei will be placed onto the ground with an American Flag at each joint on the grass
curb around Section A at Punchbowl.
