Theme Of Thank You Ma Am, By Langston Hughes
Some people enjoy sitting on their couches and watching the news. They watch stories about people
committing random acts of kindness, but they don't ever perform them. THe people who do take
action are extraordinary, like Mrs. Jones in, "Thank You Ma'am," by Langston Hughes. In the story,
Mrs. Jones pursues an act of kindness towards Roger – a troubled teen. Yet, Mrs. Jones didn't know
about his family background, she was just kind for the sake of being kind. That is shown as a theme
of the piece. The theme of "Thank You Ma'am" is, be kind, because one day, someone might need it
because you don't know what they're going through, they might be neglected, and your kindness has
influence on others. The first reason the theme is, be kind,

The Pursuit Of Happiness Is The Universal Search For A Life
The pursuit of happiness is the universal search for a life an individual can feel content and satisfied
with. However, as stated in class, happiness is a fleeting emotion rather than a prolonged state. Once
an individual achieves a sense of happiness it is only a matter of time before they return to the
starting point of their quest. Therefore, happiness alone is not enough to elicit a good life. On a
similar note, in 2004, Professor Martin Seligman gave a TED talk that addressed the current
direction of psychology. He believed the extent of psychology had become the ability to "make
miserable people feel less miserable" rather than "[making] relatively untroubled people happier."
As a result, he and his colleagues developed positive psychology, a branch of psychology that
promotes the components of happiness, well–being, and fulfillment to achieve a satisfactory life.
The purpose of this project is to learn about your well–being and discover ways to increase the
quality of your life through positive psychology.
For the first section of this project, I performed a self–assessment of my well–being using
Seligman's five pillars of positive psychology: Positive emotion, engagement, meaning,
relationships, and accomplishment (Grison, Heatherton, & Gazzaniga, 2015). I identified the
characteristics of each pillar and compared them to similar criteria in my life. This process provided
me with an in–depth understanding of my life in relation to the model. Following the

Scavenger Hunt Research Paper
A group that I had to participate in recently was for an event called GISHWHES, or the "Greatest
International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen", which is a weeklong scavenger hunt that
happens every year in the beginning of August. The purpose of the event is to promote random acts
of kindness, all over the world in groups consisting of fifteen people. My group consisted not only
of a wide variety of different people from all over the United States, but a few people from other
countries as well. In fact, one of the members of my group was from Sweden and another from
Argentina. The official team leader was a woman by the name of Courtney, but everybody still had

Task leadership roles "help the group acquire, process, or apply information that contributes directly
to completing a task or goal", while procedural leadership roles, "are sets of communication
behaviors that provide logistical support, keep the group focused on the task, and record the group's
accomplishments" (Verderber, Sellnow, Verderber 134). The task roles were filled primarily by two
guys by the name of Eden and Nick, and the team leader Courtney. Courtney took the role of an
opinion seeker by probing the team for their thoughts and ideas. The other two both took the role of
analyzers by scrutinizing any issues with the reasoning of group discussing and trying to analyze
how best to complete the tasks for the hunt. The procedural roles were filled mainly by me and two
other people by the names of Sam and Kit. While Sam and I both took roles as expediters trying to
keep everyone on track and helping to make sure that we got as many items done as we could.
Everybody else in the group either switched between roles or never took any

Piaget 's Theory Of Cognitive Development
Portfolio Activity 2 Piaget's theory of Cognitive Development Describe it Jean Piaget's theory of
Cognitive Development represents children as explorers of the environment, trying to make sense of
their world, and in doing this, they discover new things and adapt to this world they live in. There
are three basic components to Piaget's theory; adaptation, schemas, and stages of cognitive
development. Adaptation refers to adjusting to the demands of the environment, through such things
as coping with challenges, problem solving and improving their way of thinking. Assimilation
(incorporating some outside event into one's way of thinking), accommodation (changing or
modifying an existing schema to make sense of new or different information) and disequilibrium
(state of cognitive conflict occurring when one's experience is contradicted by their way of thinking)
are the processes that enable adaptation to occur. Schemas are the basic building blocks for thinking
and organising information. According to Piaget, there are three types of schemas; behavioural
(mental representations of physical actions), symbolic (language–based representations of objects
and events) and operational (mental action or manipulation used to solve a problem or for logic
reasoning). Piaget proposed that all children experience growth in cognitive development in a four–
stage sequence; sensorimotor (infancy or 0–2 years), preoperational (preschool/early primary school
or 2–7 years), concrete operational

Comparing The Pursuit Of Happiness And Very Happy People
Throughout all of the differences in this world, one thing we have in common is the desire to obtain
happiness. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it.
With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to
be expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of
many authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person's own
values, and knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Carlin Flora's article "The Pursuit of
Happiness" and Ed Diener and Martin Seligman's "Very Happy People" agree that even the happiest
people do not have feelings of ecstasy or euphoric emotions. Flora, with the ... Show more content

However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent.
In "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "Very Happy People," there are similar points supporting the
theory that happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back
these claims, including another article, "Just For the Joy of it." This article was written by Vicki
Zakrzewski to address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us," states Zakrzewski
as she talks about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full
support of Zakrzewski's statement when she encourages the reader to "perform acts of kindness for
others on a regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time" (Flora 69). Diener and
Seligman's results showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social
relationships are formed on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor
in happiness. While making others feel good can increase happiness, it can also stem from making
one's self feel good, both physically and

Random Act Of Kindness Definition
I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really nice
to do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another person's
day. Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take part in a
great deal of kind–heartedness. It's always good to make yourself a blessing to someone else. For
my random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race track who were
working on cars in 90–degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me to do since I
knew it would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. My random act of kindness took place

Misconception Of Happiness
Introduction
People constantly have the desire to want more and often believe that by fulfilling those desires, it
will increase their happiness. One problem is, people do not just live with simplicity in their lives,
which is a direct reflection of their environment and societal factors that influence these continuous
desires. Happiness is a very pertinent goal for people to reach. Today's society has the
misconception of happiness as being blinded by monetary and materialistic gains such as wealth,
power, social media, and success. The "Mental Health Foundation's survey illustrating that 76 per
cent of respondents think society is becoming more materialistic and selfish" (Buggey). Many
people contemplate on whether or not it is even possible for individuals to attain happiness, which
has driven researchers to neglect to study happiness because some believe that we would be better
off by simply accepting our current happiness. However, we believe another reason for this neglect
is the pessimistic view "over whether it is even possible to achieve sustainable increases in
happiness" (Sheldon, K. & Lyubomirsky, S. (2006). With several different aspects of if happiness is
even achievable, there are still individuals who believe there are.
Happiness is not a constant, an individual must practice the art of finding it within themselves in
order to have more frequent increases throughout their lives and have an appreciation for the simple
things. Finding happiness results

How To Write A Photo Analysis Essay
"The weak fall, but the strong will remain and never go under," stated by Anne Frank. I settle on this
quote because it is significant to the photo that I have chosen. The photo that I found was searched
on Google. When I initially found the photo on Google, it was an image that was originally from
Pinterest. As I looked more into the photo it was also shown on many other websites of displayed
images but had no information about it. A majority of people ponder about photographs when
examined and have their own perspectives about them. In the photo that I have chosen, it could
imply to the readers that it suggests the simple act of kindness given to individuals who need
happiness.
The photo depicts a young girl and a young boy standing on a wooden dock near the ocean as the
sun is beginning to set along the side of them. There are a group of geese flying above the ocean

This photo looks as if the young girl is offering the young boy help by giving him a balloon and the
benefit from the help given is receiving happiness. Although, the photo illustrates more than just the
simple fact of giving and receiving. The photo shows the opportunity to help the ones in desperate
need. This photo works as a powerful representation of individuals in need. The young girl has all
the opportunities in life to do what she wants and still gives her time to help the young boy. That is
shown by the illustration of the young girl offering the young boy a balloon. Everyone needs a
helping hand at a certain time in their life. Most importantly not everyone knows what people go
through but the best option is to offer support whether or not they will accept it. In addition, the
worse act that can be given is to ignore someone, and that certain someone can only learn from the
action of rejection. This thought is invoked because in the photo it is shown that the young boy does
not accept the balloon that is given to him by the young

Random Acts Of Kindness Analysis
Random Acts of Kindness During the week, I decided to engage in some "simple" acts of kindness
that some people may overlook on a daily basis. The last two, I had done previously, but chose to
list them here so that I can discuss my experience. I opted to do the following deeds: I let someone
go ahead of me in the supermarket. I waited to hold the door open for someone. I picked up two
women with a baby, who were caught in the rain as they tried to make their way to Walmart. I
purchased a lunch for two young boys who were sitting behind my sister and me. I picked up
someone who needed a ride into town and bought them a meal from Mcdonalds. As I was doing
these deeds, I found that most of them came naturally; however, it was partly due to how I was
raised, but most importantly, because I was lead by the Holy Spirit. Whenever a need must be met, I
fill it if I am able. I find that anytime I do something good for someone else, whether in secret or
publicly, I benefit either way because it makes me "feel good." I try to get honest and introspective
with myself asking, "Why do I/we do good deeds?" What is the motivation behind it ... Show more

"For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire
to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out" (Romans, 7:18). I find that even when I do carry it out
if I am honest with myself, many times it is probably for self–gratification. In all of our depravity,
can we honestly say we did it out of the kindness of our hearts? Scripture tells us our hearts are
"desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). I have no good, nor is there goodness in me apart from Christ
(Psalm 16:2). I say that because Christ Himself said no one is good, and that all of us have gone
astray. "There is no one who does good, not even one" (Romans 3:12, New International Version).
Any fragment of goodness that shines through my life is Christ alone – not me. It is all

Definition Essay: An Act Of Kindness
An act of kindness is a spontaneous gesture of goodwill towards someone or something. Random
acts of kindness can be anything from volunteering at a hospice center, volunteering at animal
shelters, doing community service, or even giving a stranger a compliment. Throughout my life, I've
always tried to be kind to people in some way. In elementary I volunteered with special needs kids, I
was considered a pal. My job as a pal was to talk to them, play with them, and help them with
anything they needed. They needed love and support and I was that person to give it to them. In high
school, my act of kindness was going back to my middle school to help coach track for the middle
schoolers. Those are some of the many things I've done to be kind,

Complete Three Random Acts Of Kindness
For this project I chose to complete three random acts of kindness. The first random act of kindness
that I completed was done at the University of Saskatchewan campus. One afternoon, I wrote the
same message on roughly 10 different flashcards. My plan for this act was to pass out flashcards
with kind messages on them and pass them out to students in Murray Library. Attached to the
flashcards was two mini chocolate bars. The message read "Good luck studying for midterms! You
can do this. I hope this little treat helps you get through our day." The day after I finished writing all
the messages and attaching the chocolate bars, I proceeded to walk around Murray Library and pass
them out the strangers. I intended to approach individuals who were sitting by themselves because I
people who were by themselves would appreciate it more. Individuals who were sitting in group of
people may have been distracted by their friends in order to sincerely take in the random act of
kindness. Additionally, I did not want to approach groups of people because then I would feel
obliged to give every person in that group a flashcard and some chocolate. The reason why I wanted
to do this specific act of kindness is because I wanted to do everything in my power to make a
stranger happy. During the time of midterm exams students are very stressed out. Students,
including myself at times, are constantly worried about their results, the possibility of failure, and
how much time one needs

The Price of the Prize
Acts of kindness and charity make the "world go 'round". As one person helps another, a type of
"pay it forward" phenomenon may occur. If this did happen, and everyone who was helped gave up
a little bit of their time to help another, many lives would be changed for the better. In many cases,
where quite a bit of participation is needed, overseers may lure contestants in with some sort of
inducement. Do people really deserve and often expect accolades for what they have done? Even
though some rewards in return for acts of charity are healthy in moderation, frequent incentives
would undermine the actual cause of helping others. If every good deed had a small reward,
opposition would be scarce. However, if this reward would be used to boost students grades or give
employees raises, many would become skeptical. This is evident when students receive enrichment
points for participating and contributing to a charity drive for those affected by natural disasters or
other catastrophic events. When students know ahead of time that they have an opportunity to
increase their grade in a certain class, they will most likely contribute as much as they can for free
points. The careless donating may seem impeccant and unimportant, but the points earned are
enough to skew student's grades as they fail to prove their knowledge and understanding of material.
Credit earned in school should be for successfully completing assigned class work and grades
should portray what the student truly

Have you ever done something for a friend or just a random person in general? Well that is a random

someone with groceries. Well yes those are very simple and they are not hard, but there are also just
more than that. Every day there are 30 percent of homeless people out on the streets wanting some
money. Some people are kind and give them money and food! Random acts of kindness are not just
for homeless people, they are for rich, poor, and maybe in the middle people too! Sometimes people
are so nice, they will pay for the people behind them in drive throughs. These little acts of kindness

The Movie ' Amelie '
The film Amelie provides multiple examples of individuals sacrificing, and applying Campbell 's
moral objective to their own lives. One of the people from the film that follow the objective is
Dominique Bretodeau. When he was a young boy, he lost his treasure box. Directly after it was
returned to him from a stranger, he began to tear up over the lost memories that the box contained.
He then confides in people at the bar that he has not spoken to his daughter in years, and because of
this does not know his grandson. This simple act of kindness was enough to make Bretodeau
sacrifice his pride enough to reconcile with his daughter and grandson. He had no idea if his family
was going to open their arms, or push him away for being away for so long. This failed to stop
Bretodeau. This journey of becoming a hero was a spiritual one. Most of the conflict happened
within his own heart. A small act of thoughtfulness helped a man choose to create a better life for
him, and his estranged family.

Random Acts of Kindness for this Holiday Season Many children are taught that Christmas is when

it costs money or not, it does not matter, it's the thought that counts. Imagine comparing the joy a

frown since they were most likely expecting a toy and the homeless person would be overjoyed
since they barely have anything. We have to give thanks for what we have, so we may help to serve

Most of the options on my list involve using money, however there are definitely random acts of
kindness that you may do without using any money. If you can't afford to give/use money to/for

someone with their groceries, or even just a simple smile. This Holiday season, I hope to be able to
find the time to read a book to a young child at my school. Reading books of their choice would
obviously benefit them, since they're having a good relaxing time while listening to someone read a
book to them, and it would be free of charge. The children I read to would benefit from this act of

Best Way to Live How one should live his or her life is a concept that has been discussed for
centuries. It is debated, written about, argued over, killed for, and envied. Advice is offered at every

When one feels loved, or when one loves someone they feel happiness. This is essential for leading
good life and creating a positive world. Without love there would be loneliness, sadness and despair
which only negatively impacts our society as a whole. Our families are our first examples of love. A
parent's love for their children is unconditional providing a strong foundation and a sense of
belonging. In the book Antigone Creon forgets about being loving and kind and instead he was rash
and cruel. This is because instead of doing what a loving father would have done and let his son's
fiancee free, he decided to try seem strong and stick to his original decision even though it was
wrong. This is why this story ends in Tragedy. All this could have been been solved with love.
Loving your family isn't the only type of love. People can also fall in love with someone else and
create a relationship. Relationship love makes you feel important and wanted and gives strength. In
the book Anthem, Equality meets the Golden One and they fall in love. Their relationship is what
gives allows Equality the strength to flee his oppressive society and join the Golden One and start a
new, free society. This wouldn't have been possible without love. Today people fall in love all the
time. This can be extremely beneficial to the both of them. Psychology, people have been proven to
be happier in a relationship than being single. Also financially, people are better off having the
support of a partner. This all leads to a better world for us all to live

them to feel and perform better. The group of people I interacted with were mainly male and females
aging between 15 and 19. The females were most likely to respond verbally by saying thank you.
The males mostly gave facial expressions or did not say anything at all. After awhile, I started to
notice that these RAK's were commencing a domino effect. This domino effect is supported by
Durkheim's collective conscious concept. I also noticed that the peers began to perform better during
track meets. The use of soft skills were a key factor in this experiment. ... Show more content on

During this time period, a habit can be added or subtracted from one's lifestyle (Cutts, 2011). I am
pleased to announce that the habit of random acts of kindness is one that I now possess. After doing
RAK's for an experiment, I began to notice that these RAK's were becoming more of a natural
routine, not something that I was purposely doing for data. With this becoming a habit, I have
helped create a positive atmosphere at Galion's track and field. For instance, on April 4, I was
cheering on Marisa as she high jumped. I told her encouraging words when she did not jump to her
satisfaction. She repeated my actions towards her by doing the same thing to other high jumpers.
The people on the track team were beginning to develop a sense of natural optimism passed around
by others, unconsciously. By performing these RAK's, I feel that I have initiated social change.
Gilmore (2007), states that "there is untapped potential in even the smallest good deed and it can
have a multiplier effect strong enough to change the world" (p.133). This quote of hers is true within
the experiment that I have been practicing. The small RAK's I have been doing for my fellow track
members are being passed on to others around the track and field. If these students continue to do
so, we can eliminate the negativity, thus making the world a better

The Analysis of the Ending of the Grapes of Wrath
When you think of the word end you think of the end of a book or movie when the true definition is
"a final part of something, esp. a period of time, an activity, or a story" or " the furthest or most
extreme part or point of something." Webster The ending of "The Grapes of Wrath" is just that the
most extreme. There are those who believe that the ending of this book is highly inappropriate and
should be banned from schools for the content. However those people are uneducated and cannot
look beyond the words to see that the ending is seen as beautiful. The true meaning of the end is
about new life, second chances, and the innate kindness that lies within all people.
The ending is about new life because of Rose of Sharon's baby and what it truly meant to the Joad
family. Throughout the entire novel you experience Rose of Sharon pregnancy and her struggle to
sustain both herself and a child. Generally babies represent new life, a fresh start, exactly what the
Joad family was looking for from the start of the novel. Unfortunately the baby does not make it,
this is very sad, but also a sigh of relief for the family. If the baby would have survived then that
meant one more mouth to feed. Fortunately she still had her breast milk and used it to help another
life, "Says he wasn't hungry, or he jus' et. Give me the food. Now he's too weak. Can'thardly move."
The ending may be morbid and bleak but the truth is that if it were not for the death of the baby, the
Joad family would be

Random Acts Of Kindness, Altruistic And Prosocial Behavior
Comparison Matrix Paper Random acts of kindness, altruistic and prosocial behavior can elaborate
to being a hero. An elderly lady is standing in a grocery line fumbling through her bag to find the
change needed to complete her transaction, yet she ends up empty handed. A young man behind here
hesitates to ask if he could be of assistance, yet the heroic behavior would be to give her the amount
needed to complete the transaction, a prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is any act performed
with the goals of benefiting another person (Aronson, Wilson, & Akert, 2010). This comparison
matrix paper will show the differences and similarities of the authors by comparing their
introductions, the purpose of each study, their research questions, the literature reviews, the sample
population, study limitations, results and conclusions, and suggested topics for future studies.
Franco, Blau, and Zimbardo (2011) offer a straightforward definition of heroism as to act in a
prosocial manner without a personal gain. They continue by explaining that only a few can reach
heroic status and must be equipped with the proper skills or luck. Whereas, Harvey, Erdos, and
Turnbull (2009) defines heroism in their article's introduction as a man or woman of distinguished
bravery, a person who is reverenced and put on a pedestal, or any famous person. These researchers
find differences in opinions as to the definition of heroism. Franco et al. (2011) argues heroes work
without capital gains; whereas,

Random Act Of Kindness Research Paper
When it came to choosing something to do for a random act of kindness I did not have any
particular idea in mind. However, this past Saturday I came up with an idea and quickly executed it.
I had just left the movie theater after seeing Trainwreck with my mom and best friend and had
decided to go to Chick–fil–a because I was hungry. As we pulled into the drive–thru, I knew what I
was going to do for my random act of kindness. I was going to pay for the food order of the person
behind me and so I did. As I was talking to the cashier and telling him what I was going to do, a
large grin spread across his face. He became ecstatic as if this single act was restoring his faith in the
good of the human race. His smile was contagious and I could not

The scavenger hunt is a week long, worldwide event. All participants are part of a 15 person team. A
person can create their own team, or they can sign up online, and the team will be created for them.
The cool thing is one could be on the same team as someone all the way over in Europe! Once the
hunt starts, Misha airs a video online with a short speech, and along with the video, releases a list of
the things participants must "find". But not everything is necessarily something to be found. Some
of the things a team must create. Each thing a team may "find" is worth points. But as proof a team
actually "found" things, they must document them in the form of a picture or video, and post them
online. At the end of the week, the team with the most points gets to travel somewhere, personally,
with Misha, and spend the weekend with him. Above all, the point of G.I.S.H.W.H.E.S. is to inspire
and influence people to get creative! Some things from the 2012 list that teams had to find, or create,
were as follows: "Find an object that was manufactured the day and year you were born in the city
or town of your birth. Get your team name and "GISHWHES" on a billboard. Must include

Things That Make Friendships Last a Lifetime
There is a type bond that is made between a set people who want to go farther than being just
acquaintances. A healthy friendship contains respect, people who respect each other by means of
equal fashion. Friends should often care about the well–being of the other person. Many friendships
also include acts, whether they are acts of kindness that work towards the best interest of the other
without requiring materialistic items in return. A healthy friendship also contains honesty.
An act of kindness between friends can be seen when a young man who recently broke up with the
girlfriend he was living with at that time and had nowhere else to go. The man's one buddy, who
ended up discovering that his friend was on the verge of being homeless decided to go over and help
him move out of his house into his house. The man's friend did not offer his assistance in the matter
because he was asked but rather because it was the right thing to do at the time. He never asked for
anything in return because he was helping a friend and it's the correct thing to do when you or
someone you know needs help the most. Another example of this type of occurrence is when you are
walking down the street and you take notice to somebody struggling carrying something, you out of
common courtesy ask if they need help. They may not always take it but they will appreciate the
thought. As humans, some of us

What Is A Random Act Of Kindness
Random Acts Of Kindness That Shouldn't Be Random Many people have a perception that a deviant
act must be something negative that unbalances the norms of society. However that is not always the
case, a deviant act could be one that is positive. According to Merriam–Webster deviant is defined
as "different from what is considered to be normal or morally correct." So it comes down to what is
considered to be normal behavior, and believe it or not going out of your own way to help others or
being randomly kind to strangers is not considered to be normal. Why though, why do these acts of
kindness towards others have the potential to be reacted to in a negative fashion? In Ed and Deb
Shapiro's article "Why Random Acts of Kindness are So Important," ... Show more content on

On October 4th I ran in the Rugged Maniac, a 3.6–mile obstacle course through mud, water, and
fire. I decided that during the course of the race I would go out of my way to help others over
obstacles, provide encouraging words, and keep a smile on my face. However going into the race I
already knew how my actions would be perceived. During the race there were multiple times when I
assisted another in pulling them up over an obstacle or boosting them up over an obstacle, and each
and every time everyone was appreciative and usually helping the next person that came behind
them. The difference with this act is the community that it is preformed in. I've previously ran the
Rugged Maniac at an earlier date and also the Tough Mudder. People who participate in these events
are a special kind of person, they all go out of their way to help each other and when someone does
help another it isn't looked at as odd or deviant, where as if they were openly helpful out in the rest
of the world. These mud runs are like families and they don't look at how fast someone finishes the
course but rather at making sure you do finish. Why do people have to be covered in filth and
running for miles to experience the kind of generosity that should be present in day–to–day life?
Honestly I don't have an answer other then its just part of the race, and that feeling

Continue The Breach Of Kindness: Contagious Or Helpful?
Continue the Ripple
Throughout the week of January 9–13, Mrs. Thompson's Language Arts classes conducted a
Kindness Experiment. Students were asked to complete kind gestures and encourage recipients to
pay them forward. This task created a kindness chain that is still going on today. Students and
teachers are passing the torch of kindness and doing amazing things. This proves that kindness is
contagious!
Kindness is a torch within everyone's body. They are lit up at times, igniting with passion and other
times they seem to disappear. However, after we started this experiment, everyone's torch seemed to
light up so much that even their faces showed it. People started to stand a little taller, and smile a
little bigger. The ripple effect of kindness has shot through the school! Kindness keeps this world
going, keeps us united, and makes no one feel like an outsider. It's funny how just a little bit of
kindness could make someone's whole day. For all anyone knows it could save a life! Being kind is

I. Introduction:
A. Relate to self and audience: I love story. Matter of facts, I would love to get to know each of you
and listen to your personal stories. Especially, I enjoy listening to struggles–related stories. Every
day, each of us walks to class and acts "normal", though we might carry something deep inside.
Something that is too dark which we cannot let others know. From time to time, we keep carrying
that wound. It hurts us every now and then, but we say nothing.

Therefore, oxytocin is known as "cardio–protective" as it keeps the heart healthy (Hamilton, 2011).
Transition: What I'm trying to say here is that all of these complicated processes happened because
of giving and receiving kindness. It actually improves the soul of our heart, but also its physical
well–beings.
B. Main point II: Kindness reflects leadership quality because it teaches leader how to lead and take
initiatives.
– Orly Wahba, CEO of Life Vest Inside, once said that a small act of kindness shows that we have a
power to make a change like a leader (TED Talk, 2014). It also demonstrates that we push ourselves
out of our comfort zone and take actions to help others (TED Talk, 2014).
– She emphasizes that our kind actions, big or small, prove that we want to take charge and make
the world become a better place (TED Talk, 2014). And that, in her opinion (also mine), kindness is
such a simple, valuable quality which demonstrates a powerful role, a leader (TED Talk, 2014).
Transition: I want to you take these two points and understand them through my story and my
perception.
Need + Satisfaction + Visualization: Imagine this, you, in my body, wake up and ready to start your
day. However, before you get out of bed, you have to look real quick at social media. Right that
moment, you are flooded with hatred direct messages from people in your past. They call you fake.

Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts
During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson's language arts classes conducted an
experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they
received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be
redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the
world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. "Be kind whenever possible.
It is always possible." These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who
dedicated his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the
world in a manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it,
nevertheless, by performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may
comprise of merely retrieving a fellow student's fallen pencil can have profound effects on society,
for these acts tend to spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may
develop into thousands of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world.
While not uncommon, random acts of kindness do not occur as frequently as devastating events, so
they tend to appear rarely in the media. The Huffington Post, however, compiles ... Show more

Personal Narrative: The First Random Acts Of Kindness
The first random act of kindness that I have performed this first nine weeks was that I paid for the
person behind me at Chick–fil–a. I had just gotten a sweet tea and some fries, so I paid for the
person behind me. It made me feel like I had made someone's day better, and I really hope that the
person would pass it on and make someone else's day better. I don't really know how it made the
other person feel because I didn't get to talk to them about it, being that we were both in the drive–
through. The second thing I did was that me and a couple of other girls put sticky notes in the school
bathrooms as a part of our church group. It made me hope that maybe someone would read one of
my notes and think "that makes me feel good about myself". I'm not sure how it made the person
and/or persons feel because I don't know who all actually read the notes and the people who read
them probably don't know that I was one of the people that did that. The third thing was that when
one of my friends was having a bad day, I wrote her a handwritten note reminding her that I cared
about her and that she was such a blessing in my life, then I put it in her locker. It made me feel
really good, and I hoped that I had made a difference that no one else had made in her life because

Random Acts Of Kindness Is A Interpersonal Kind?
A random act of kindness is a selfless deed gave by a person or people desiring whichever to assist

kingdom of animal and kingdom of nature are the targets of our spontaneous gesture of goodwill

kindness is not measured or calculated by generosity but it is grateful, loving and warm. In fact, we
must care for others genuinely and do not do good deeds for the sake of expecting rewards or

The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier
person. It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive
experience, write down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I was
grateful for each day was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most. It is
easy for me to just think about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about all the
positives, so by writing them down each day it made me realize how much I have to be grateful for.
I realized that most of the day I would focus on the bad things that happened, so it was nice to focus

Most of the time there are million things going on, so a few minutes to not think about things like
work and school was very relaxing or me. Overall I don't think praying made me much happier, but
it did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act of
kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it, and I
would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However later in the
challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of kindness. After
completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good feeling knowing you have
helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made their day a little better. Overall,
I think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it made me realize I have a lot to be
thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than what I realized. When I looked
through my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the 3 things I was grateful for it was
very nice that instead of just remembering the bad things that happened those days I now can
remember the good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than I thought I did going into this
challenge. I now find myself realizing things that I am grateful for more often and

Stereotypes Of A True Hero
Romance heroes, Action heroes, Fiction heroes, Real heroes. They are all around us. Have you ever
actually stopped to think about all the places we can see/find heroes in our daily lives? Near and far,
people are performing courageous acts this second. If we just stopped to realize these everyday
people, we could view the world in such a different light than focusing on the negative acts of
criminals and liars. What is the real question? What is a hero, or who is a hero? Well, in my eyes, a
hero is someone who surrenders more for other people than they do for themselves. This is shown in
actions across the globe and across time.
Throughout time, we as people create stereotypes and guidelines to provide a clear idea what the
normal of something is. So what do we claim a hero is? Look at an easy stereotype in Disney.
Hercules. Truly obvious, I know, but what we are looking at is the most basic stereotype: heroes are
men. "Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are all movies titled after their female
characters and yet it is men who are thrust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is it possible for us to be heroes in our daily lives? "The truth is that each one of us has the ability to
become a hero to someone" (Allison). I agree, I think the answer is yes. Every time we declare
choices, we have the possibility to be heroic. Little, simple actions such as making someone smile
when they are in a bad mood. Helping an elderly person up stairs or across the street, finding fifty
dollars and returning it, or even just helping out a struggling classmate can be viewed as heroic.
Giving to other people without expecting anything in return is one more definition of being heroic.
Just because we aren't in the war or in a movie, does not mean we cannot be heroes in our own lives.
We write our own stories and choose our own paths. By making these decisions to be heroes in our
own worlds, we can be just like our favorite characters and role

unfortunately events such as this occur nonetheless. When involving myself with my UNI

who cannot assist themselves. Various ideas were tossed back and forth until we came to one

smaller, selfless activities I decided to perform due to a lengthy list I read online. One of the tasks
entailed listening to someone's pain and making an attempt to help them find a path through it. I had
this conversation with a fellow coworker whose mother had passed almost a year ago; the pain is

Langston Hughes' Thank You Ma'am Explores Theme of Kindness

  • 1. Theme Of Thank You Ma Am, By Langston Hughes Some people enjoy sitting on their couches and watching the news. They watch stories about people committing random acts of kindness, but they don't ever perform them. THe people who do take action are extraordinary, like Mrs. Jones in, "Thank You Ma'am," by Langston Hughes. In the story, Mrs. Jones pursues an act of kindness towards Roger – a troubled teen. Yet, Mrs. Jones didn't know about his family background, she was just kind for the sake of being kind. That is shown as a theme of the piece. The theme of "Thank You Ma'am" is, be kind, because one day, someone might need it because you don't know what they're going through, they might be neglected, and your kindness has influence on others. The first reason the theme is, be kind, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Pursuit Of Happiness Is The Universal Search For A Life The pursuit of happiness is the universal search for a life an individual can feel content and satisfied with. However, as stated in class, happiness is a fleeting emotion rather than a prolonged state. Once an individual achieves a sense of happiness it is only a matter of time before they return to the starting point of their quest. Therefore, happiness alone is not enough to elicit a good life. On a similar note, in 2004, Professor Martin Seligman gave a TED talk that addressed the current direction of psychology. He believed the extent of psychology had become the ability to "make miserable people feel less miserable" rather than "[making] relatively untroubled people happier." As a result, he and his colleagues developed positive psychology, a branch of psychology that promotes the components of happiness, well–being, and fulfillment to achieve a satisfactory life. The purpose of this project is to learn about your well–being and discover ways to increase the quality of your life through positive psychology. For the first section of this project, I performed a self–assessment of my well–being using Seligman's five pillars of positive psychology: Positive emotion, engagement, meaning, relationships, and accomplishment (Grison, Heatherton, & Gazzaniga, 2015). I identified the characteristics of each pillar and compared them to similar criteria in my life. This process provided me with an in–depth understanding of my life in relation to the model. • 5. Scavenger Hunt Research Paper A group that I had to participate in recently was for an event called GISHWHES, or the "Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen", which is a weeklong scavenger hunt that happens every year in the beginning of August. The purpose of the event is to promote random acts of kindness, all over the world in groups consisting of fifteen people. My group consisted not only of a wide variety of different people from all over the United States, but a few people from other countries as well. In fact, one of the members of my group was from Sweden and another from Argentina. The official team leader was a woman by the name of Courtney, but everybody still had to take charge since the group was separated. In my group we accomplished ... Task leadership roles "help the group acquire, process, or apply information that contributes directly to completing a task or goal", while procedural leadership roles, "are sets of communication behaviors that provide logistical support, keep the group focused on the task, and record the group's accomplishments" (Verderber, Sellnow, Verderber 134). The task roles were filled primarily by two guys by the name of Eden and Nick, and the team leader Courtney. Courtney took the role of an opinion seeker by probing the team for their thoughts and ideas. The other two both took the role of analyzers by scrutinizing any issues with the reasoning of group discussing and trying to analyze how best to complete the tasks for the hunt. The procedural roles were filled mainly by me and two other people by the names of Sam and Kit. While Sam and I both took roles as expediters trying to keep everyone on track and helping to make sure that we got as many items done as we could. • 7. Piaget 's Theory Of Cognitive Development Portfolio Activity 2 Piaget's theory of Cognitive Development Describe it Jean Piaget's theory of Cognitive Development represents children as explorers of the environment, trying to make sense of their world, and in doing this, they discover new things and adapt to this world they live in. There are three basic components to Piaget's theory; adaptation, schemas, and stages of cognitive development. Adaptation refers to adjusting to the demands of the environment, through such things as coping with challenges, problem solving and improving their way of thinking. Assimilation (incorporating some outside event into one's way of thinking), accommodation (changing or modifying an existing schema to make sense of new or different information) and disequilibrium (state of cognitive conflict occurring when one's experience is contradicted by their way of thinking) are the processes that enable adaptation to occur. Schemas are the basic building blocks for thinking and organising information. According to Piaget, there are three types of schemas; behavioural (mental representations of physical actions), symbolic (language–based representations of objects and events) and operational (mental action or manipulation used to solve a problem or for logic reasoning). Piaget proposed that all children experience growth in cognitive development in a four– stage sequence; sensorimotor (infancy or 0–2 years), preoperational (preschool/early primary school or 2–7 years), concrete operational ... • 9. Comparing The Pursuit Of Happiness And Very Happy People Throughout all of the differences in this world, one thing we have in common is the desire to obtain happiness. Many articles have been written about the pursuit of happiness and how one can attain it. With an assortment of articles over the topic, it is only natural for many different views and ideas to be expressed by the numerous authors. Despite the many differences of opinions and beliefs of many authors, they all agree that happiness comes from helping others, living to a person's own values, and knowing what the true definition of happiness is. Carlin Flora's article "The Pursuit of Happiness" and Ed Diener and Martin Seligman's "Very Happy People" agree that even the happiest people do not have feelings of ecstasy or euphoric emotions. Flora, with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, some of those great emotions will fade away, and some will help happiness be consistent. In "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "Very Happy People," there are similar points supporting the theory that happiness comes from helping others. Once again, there are reliable resources to back these claims, including another article, "Just For the Joy of it." This article was written by Vicki Zakrzewski to address the topic of altruism. Altruism is a natural part of all of us," states Zakrzewski as she talks about the practice of selfless concern for others (Zakrezewski 22). Flora shows her full support of Zakrzewski's statement when she encourages the reader to "perform acts of kindness for others on a regular basis to lift your mood in the moment and over time" (Flora 69). Diener and Seligman's results showed that the very happy people had good social relationships. Good social relationships are formed on selflessness and sacrifice, further proving that altruism is a large factor in happiness. While making others feel good can increase happiness, it can also stem from making one's self feel good, both physically and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Ellen Degeneres Research Paper "Be Kind to One Another" "Sometimes you can't see yourself clearly until you see yourself through the eyes of others," says Ellen Degeneres. This is just one of the infamous Ellen Degeneres quotes that shows her hope for the world. Ellen has used her comedy to spread her infectious laughter and kindness. Throughout the Leaving a Legacy unit, social movements, historical movements, people, and their legacies have been researched. Ellen Degeneres has become not just a comedian, but an ambassador of kindness to all. Following this further, Ellen Lee Degeneres was born in Metairie, Louisiana on January 26, 1958 to Betty and Elliot Degeneres who later divorced when Ellen was a teenager. At Atlanta high school, she was a tennis and golf starter, graduating in May of 1976. Before comedy, Ellen originally wanted to be a veterinarian but worked as a waitress, sold vacuum cleaners, and painted houses because she decided she wasn't "book smart" (Biography.com Editors). She began performing comedy in 1981 with her big debut in 1986 on The Tonight Show with Mr. Carson. • 13. Random Act Of Kindness Definition I believe that kindness is a standout amongst the most vital human qualities. I think it is really nice to do a random act of kindness sometimes, and it can truly change the standpoint of another person's day. Once I got this assignment about the random act of kindness I was really glad to take part in a great deal of kind–heartedness. It's always good to make yourself a blessing to someone else. For my random act of kindness, I distributed ice cold bottles of water to men at the race track who were working on cars in 90–degree weather. I decided this would be the best one for me to do since I knew it would be hot and the men needed to stay hydrated. • 15. Misconception Of Happiness Introduction People constantly have the desire to want more and often believe that by fulfilling those desires, it will increase their happiness. One problem is, people do not just live with simplicity in their lives, which is a direct reflection of their environment and societal factors that influence these continuous desires. Happiness is a very pertinent goal for people to reach. Today's society has the misconception of happiness as being blinded by monetary and materialistic gains such as wealth, power, social media, and success. The "Mental Health Foundation's survey illustrating that 76 per cent of respondents think society is becoming more materialistic and selfish" (Buggey). Many people contemplate on whether or not it is even possible for individuals to attain happiness, which has driven researchers to neglect to study happiness because some believe that we would be better off by simply accepting our current happiness. However, we believe another reason for this neglect is the pessimistic view "over whether it is even possible to achieve sustainable increases in happiness" (Sheldon, K. & Lyubomirsky, S. (2006). With several different aspects of if happiness is even achievable, there are still individuals who believe there are. Happiness is not a constant, an individual must practice the art of finding it within themselves in order to have more frequent increases throughout their lives and have an appreciation for the simple things. • 17. How To Write A Photo Analysis Essay "The weak fall, but the strong will remain and never go under," stated by Anne Frank. I settle on this quote because it is significant to the photo that I have chosen. The photo that I found was searched on Google. When I initially found the photo on Google, it was an image that was originally from Pinterest. As I looked more into the photo it was also shown on many other websites of displayed images but had no information about it. A majority of people ponder about photographs when examined and have their own perspectives about them. In the photo that I have chosen, it could imply to the readers that it suggests the simple act of kindness given to individuals who need happiness. The photo depicts a young girl and a young boy standing on a wooden dock near the ocean as the sun is beginning to set along the side of them. There are a group of geese flying above the ocean water in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This photo looks as if the young girl is offering the young boy help by giving him a balloon and the benefit from the help given is receiving happiness. Although, the photo illustrates more than just the simple fact of giving and receiving. The photo shows the opportunity to help the ones in desperate need. This photo works as a powerful representation of individuals in need. The young girl has all the opportunities in life to do what she wants and still gives her time to help the young boy. That is shown by the illustration of the young girl offering the young boy a balloon. Everyone needs a helping hand at a certain time in their life. Most importantly not everyone knows what people go through but the best option is to offer support whether or not they will accept it. In addition, the worse act that can be given is to ignore someone, and that certain someone can only learn from the action of rejection. This thought is invoked because in the photo it is shown that the young boy does not accept the balloon that is given to him by the young ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Random Acts Of Kindness Analysis Random Acts of Kindness During the week, I decided to engage in some "simple" acts of kindness that some people may overlook on a daily basis. The last two, I had done previously, but chose to list them here so that I can discuss my experience. I opted to do the following deeds: I let someone go ahead of me in the supermarket. I waited to hold the door open for someone. I picked up two women with a baby, who were caught in the rain as they tried to make their way to Walmart. I purchased a lunch for two young boys who were sitting behind my sister and me. I picked up someone who needed a ride into town and bought them a meal from Mcdonalds. As I was doing these deeds, I found that most of them came naturally; however, it was partly due to how I was raised, but most importantly, because I was lead by the Holy Spirit. Whenever a need must be met, I fill it if I am able. I find that anytime I do something good for someone else, whether in secret or publicly, I benefit either way because it makes me "feel good." I try to get honest and introspective with myself asking, "Why do I/we do good deeds?" What is the motivation behind it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out" (Romans, 7:18). I find that even when I do carry it out if I am honest with myself, many times it is probably for self–gratification. In all of our depravity, can we honestly say we did it out of the kindness of our hearts? Scripture tells us our hearts are "desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). I have no good, nor is there goodness in me apart from Christ (Psalm 16:2). I say that because Christ Himself said no one is good, and that all of us have gone astray. "There is no one who does good, not even one" (Romans 3:12, New International Version). Any fragment of goodness that shines through my life is Christ alone – not me. It is all ... • 21. Definition Essay: An Act Of Kindness An act of kindness is a spontaneous gesture of goodwill towards someone or something. Random acts of kindness can be anything from volunteering at a hospice center, volunteering at animal shelters, doing community service, or even giving a stranger a compliment. Throughout my life, I've always tried to be kind to people in some way. In elementary I volunteered with special needs kids, I was considered a pal. My job as a pal was to talk to them, play with them, and help them with anything they needed. They needed love and support and I was that person to give it to them. In high school, my act of kindness was going back to my middle school to help coach track for the middle schoolers. Those are some of the many things I've done to be kind, ... • 23. Complete Three Random Acts Of Kindness For this project I chose to complete three random acts of kindness. The first random act of kindness that I completed was done at the University of Saskatchewan campus. One afternoon, I wrote the same message on roughly 10 different flashcards. My plan for this act was to pass out flashcards with kind messages on them and pass them out to students in Murray Library. Attached to the flashcards was two mini chocolate bars. The message read "Good luck studying for midterms! You can do this. I hope this little treat helps you get through our day." The day after I finished writing all the messages and attaching the chocolate bars, I proceeded to walk around Murray Library and pass them out the strangers. I intended to approach individuals who were sitting by themselves because I people who were by themselves would appreciate it more. Individuals who were sitting in group of people may have been distracted by their friends in order to sincerely take in the random act of kindness. Additionally, I did not want to approach groups of people because then I would feel obliged to give every person in that group a flashcard and some chocolate. The reason why I wanted to do this specific act of kindness is because I wanted to do everything in my power to make a stranger happy. During the time of midterm exams students are very stressed out. Students, including myself at times, are constantly worried about their results, the possibility of failure, and how much time one needs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Price of the Prize Acts of kindness and charity make the "world go 'round". As one person helps another, a type of "pay it forward" phenomenon may occur. If this did happen, and everyone who was helped gave up a little bit of their time to help another, many lives would be changed for the better. In many cases, where quite a bit of participation is needed, overseers may lure contestants in with some sort of inducement. Do people really deserve and often expect accolades for what they have done? Even though some rewards in return for acts of charity are healthy in moderation, frequent incentives would undermine the actual cause of helping others. If every good deed had a small reward, opposition would be scarce. However, if this reward would be used to boost students grades or give employees raises, many would become skeptical. This is evident when students receive enrichment points for participating and contributing to a charity drive for those affected by natural disasters or other catastrophic events. When students know ahead of time that they have an opportunity to increase their grade in a certain class, they will most likely contribute as much as they can for free points. The careless donating may seem impeccant and unimportant, but the points earned are enough to skew student's grades as they fail to prove their knowledge and understanding of material. Credit earned in school should be for successfully completing assigned class work and grades should portray what the student truly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Random Kindness Definition Have you ever done something for a friend or just a random person in general? Well that is a random act of kindness! A random act of kindness could be as simple as holding a door open, or helping someone with groceries. Well yes those are very simple and they are not hard, but there are also just more than that. Every day there are 30 percent of homeless people out on the streets wanting some money. Some people are kind and give them money and food! Random acts of kindness are not just for homeless people, they are for rich, poor, and maybe in the middle people too! Sometimes people are so nice, they will pay for the people behind them in drive throughs. These little acts of kindness can make everyone feel like a better person. In my ... With 27 patients to one nurse it can be hard to give that special bit of attention to my loving residents, but after a while you learn to make time for these simple things, even if it's going to get them a fresh cup of ice water or seconds on desert. Her family visits every single day. Once every couple weeks they also bring fresh flowers and decorate the room. They always spoke about how much Mrs. Banks enjoyed the outdoors and how they wished she could go outside if only for a little while. This is when I found the perfect time to perform my act of kindness. I work every Saturday and Sunday, when management is not in the facility, so it made it easy to do this with Mrs. Banks. With help from a few of my fellow nurses we bathed Mrs. Banks, bought her a new sundress, and carefully lifted her into a recliner chair with wheels that allowed her to be easily manuvured. Then attentively moved her to our patio area on the rear end of our facility. She could not speak, but they joy in her eyes said it all. One of the people from the film that follow the objective is Dominique Bretodeau. When he was a young boy, he lost his treasure box. Directly after it was returned to him from a stranger, he began to tear up over the lost memories that the box contained. He then confides in people at the bar that he has not spoken to his daughter in years, and because of this does not know his grandson. This simple act of kindness was enough to make Bretodeau sacrifice his pride enough to reconcile with his daughter and grandson. He had no idea if his family was going to open their arms, or push him away for being away for so long. This failed to stop Bretodeau. This journey of becoming a hero was a spiritual one. Random Acts Of Kindness Research Paper Random Acts of Kindness for this Holiday Season Many children are taught that Christmas is when you receive gifts from others, but what they don't find much joy in doing is giving, instead. Whether it costs money or not, it does not matter, it's the thought that counts. Imagine comparing the joy a homeless person would have compared to a child while receiving clothes, the child would probably frown since they were most likely expecting a toy and the homeless person would be overjoyed since they barely have anything. We have to give thanks for what we have, so we may help to serve those of us who have nearly nothing. If you can't afford to give/use money to/for others in need, you may simply give someone a compliment, rake a friend/neighbour's leaves, help someone with their groceries, or even just a simple smile. This Holiday season, I hope to be able to find the time to read a book to a young child at my school. Reading books of their choice would obviously benefit them, since they're having a good relaxing time while listening to someone read a book to them, and it would be free of charge. The children I read to would benefit from this act of kindness, as explained previously, but reading aloud would also be beneficial for me as a student. It would be beneficial for me as well since I would be able to practice my ability of speaking out loud to a small audience, this would help me to improve my public speaking skills as well as how I act around young children (this is necessary since I want to be a pediatrician in the future). The purpose of this experiment was to boost the confidence of my fellow track members, in hopes of them to feel and perform better. The group of people I interacted with were mainly male and females aging between 15 and 19. The females were most likely to respond verbally by saying thank you. The males mostly gave facial expressions or did not say anything at all. After awhile, I started to notice that these RAK's were commencing a domino effect. This domino effect is supported by Durkheim's collective conscious concept. I also noticed that the peers began to perform better during track meets. During this time period, a habit can be added or subtracted from one's lifestyle (Cutts, 2011). I am pleased to announce that the habit of random acts of kindness is one that I now possess. After doing RAK's for an experiment, I began to notice that these RAK's were becoming more of a natural routine, not something that I was purposely doing for data. With this becoming a habit, I have helped create a positive atmosphere at Galion's track and field. For instance, on April 4, I was cheering on Marisa as she high jumped. I told her encouraging words when she did not jump to her satisfaction. She repeated my actions towards her by doing the same thing to other high jumpers. The people on the track team were beginning to develop a sense of natural optimism passed around by others, unconsciously. By performing these RAK's, I feel that I have initiated social change. Gilmore (2007), states that "there is untapped potential in even the smallest good deed and it can have a multiplier effect strong enough to change the world" (p.133). This quote of hers is true within the experiment that I have been practicing. The small RAK's I have been doing for my fellow track members are being passed on to others around the track and field. Webster The ending of "The Grapes of Wrath" is just that the most extreme. There are those who believe that the ending of this book is highly inappropriate and should be banned from schools for the content. However those people are uneducated and cannot look beyond the words to see that the ending is seen as beautiful. The true meaning of the end is about new life, second chances, and the innate kindness that lies within all people. The ending is about new life because of Rose of Sharon's baby and what it truly meant to the Joad family. Throughout the entire novel you experience Rose of Sharon pregnancy and her struggle to sustain both herself and a child. Generally babies represent new life, a fresh start, exactly what the Joad family was looking for from the start of the novel. Unfortunately the baby does not make it, this is very sad, but also a sigh of relief for the family. If the baby would have survived then that meant one more mouth to feed. Fortunately she still had her breast milk and used it to help another life, "Says he wasn't hungry, or he jus' et. Give me the food. Now he's too weak. Can'thardly move." An elderly lady is standing in a grocery line fumbling through her bag to find the change needed to complete her transaction, yet she ends up empty handed. A young man behind here hesitates to ask if he could be of assistance, yet the heroic behavior would be to give her the amount needed to complete the transaction, a prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is any act performed with the goals of benefiting another person (Aronson, Wilson, & Akert, 2010). This comparison matrix paper will show the differences and similarities of the authors by comparing their introductions, the purpose of each study, their research questions, the literature reviews, the sample population, study limitations, results and conclusions, and suggested topics for future studies. Franco, Blau, and Zimbardo (2011) offer a straightforward definition of heroism as to act in a prosocial manner without a personal gain. They continue by explaining that only a few can reach heroic status and must be equipped with the proper skills or luck. Whereas, Harvey, Erdos, and Turnbull (2009) defines heroism in their article's introduction as a man or woman of distinguished bravery, a person who is reverenced and put on a pedestal, or any famous person. • 57. Friendship And Friendship In Life Kade Gardner Ginger Stepp Eng. Comp 1 25 September 2017 Things That Make Friendships Last a Lifetime There is a type bond that is made between a set people who want to go farther than being just acquaintances. A healthy friendship contains respect, people who respect each other by means of equal fashion. Friends should often care about the well–being of the other person. Many friendships also include acts, whether they are acts of kindness that work towards the best interest of the other without requiring materialistic items in return. A healthy friendship also contains honesty. An act of kindness between friends can be seen when a young man who recently broke up with the girlfriend he was living with at that time and had nowhere else to go. The man's one buddy, who ended up discovering that his friend was on the verge of being homeless decided to go over and help him move out of his house into his house. The man's friend did not offer his assistance in the matter because he was asked but rather because it was the right thing to do at the time. He never asked for anything in return because he was helping a friend and it's the correct thing to do when you or someone you know needs help the most. Another example of this type of occurrence is when you are walking down the street and you take notice to somebody struggling carrying something, you out of common courtesy ask if they need help. What Is A Random Act Of Kindness Random Acts Of Kindness That Shouldn't Be Random Many people have a perception that a deviant act must be something negative that unbalances the norms of society. However that is not always the case, a deviant act could be one that is positive. So it comes down to what is considered to be normal behavior, and believe it or not going out of your own way to help others or being randomly kind to strangers is not considered to be normal. • 65. Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson's language arts classes conducted an experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who dedicated his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the world in a manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it, nevertheless, by performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may comprise of merely retrieving a fellow student's fallen pencil can have profound effects on society, for these acts tend to spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may develop into thousands of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world. I had just gotten a sweet tea and some fries, so I paid for the person behind me. It made me feel like I had made someone's day better, and I really hope that the person would pass it on and make someone else's day better. I don't really know how it made the other person feel because I didn't get to talk to them about it, being that we were both in the drive– through. • 71. 21 Day Challenge Research Paper The 21 day challenge was a great experience for me, and I think it overall made me a happier person. It was easiest for me to just set apart a time each night to journal about a positive experience, write down three things I am grateful for, and pray. For me writing three things I was grateful for each day was the aspect of this challenge that increased my happiness the most. It is easy for me to just think about all the negative aspects of my life and not really think about all the positives, so by writing them down each day it made me realize how much I have to be grateful for. I realized that most of the day I would focus on the bad things that happened, so it was nice to focus on all the good parts of my life. When I started the challenge, ... Overall I don't think praying made me much happier, but it did help me because it was a time to just be alone with my thoughts. Completing a random act of kindness each day was somewhat challenging at first because I would forget about doing it, and I would remember later at night and have to do something before going to bed. However later in the challenge I found it much easier to remember to complete these random acts of kindness. After completing these acts of kindness, I felt much happier because it is a good feeling knowing you have helped someone. I felt good knowing that I helped someone or made their day a little better. Overall, I think this challenge increased my level of happiness because it made me realize I have a lot to be thankful for, and there are many more positives in my life than what I realized. When I looked through my notebook consisting of the positive experiences and the 3 things I was grateful for it was very nice that instead of just remembering the bad things that happened those days I now can remember the good things. I have a lot more to be happy about than I thought I did going into this challenge. I now find myself realizing things that I am grateful for more often and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Stereotypes Of A True Hero Romance heroes, Action heroes, Fiction heroes, Real heroes. They are all around us. Have you ever actually stopped to think about all the places we can see/find heroes in our daily lives? Near and far, people are performing courageous acts this second. If we just stopped to realize these everyday people, we could view the world in such a different light than focusing on the negative acts of criminals and liars. What is the real question? What is a hero, or who is a hero? Well, in my eyes, a hero is someone who surrenders more for other people than they do for themselves. This is shown in actions across the globe and across time. Throughout time, we as people create stereotypes and guidelines to provide a clear idea what the normal of something is. So what do we claim a hero is? Look at an easy stereotype in Disney. Hercules. Truly obvious, I know, but what we are looking at is the most basic stereotype: heroes are men. "Cinderella, Snow White, and Sleeping Beauty are all movies titled after their female characters and yet it is men who are thrust ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it possible for us to be heroes in our daily lives? "The truth is that each one of us has the ability to become a hero to someone" (Allison). I agree, I think the answer is yes. Every time we declare choices, we have the possibility to be heroic. Little, simple actions such as making someone smile when they are in a bad mood. Helping an elderly person up stairs or across the street, finding fifty dollars and returning it, or even just helping out a struggling classmate can be viewed as heroic. Giving to other people without expecting anything in return is one more definition of being heroic. Just because we aren't in the war or in a movie, does not mean we cannot be heroes in our own lives. We write our own stories and choose our own paths. By making these decisions to be heroes in our own worlds, we can be just like our favorite characters and role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Pay It Forward: A Positive or Negative Impact on Society?... Making a difference in the world is not strenuous; it is the choices conceived that dictate either a positive or negative impact upon society. Most people do not wish to negatively impact others, but unfortunately events such as this occur nonetheless. When involving myself with my UNI classmates, we came to the conclusion that we must surpass all struggles and attempt to assist those who cannot assist themselves. Various ideas were tossed back and forth until we came to one cessation: every single idea was a prodigious idea. Our group had no choice other than to complete multiple acts of kindness towards human beings in our surrounding areas. The first act of kindness that my group permitted involved paying for a stranger's meal in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One sticky note read, "Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest" ("Clemens/Twain"). I peered out of the window while I was on my ten–minute break and spotted a young woman smiling at her sticky note; unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact words written, but it warms my heart to know that I was the reason behind her toothy grin. There were a few other smaller, selfless activities I decided to perform due to a lengthy list I read online. One of the tasks entailed listening to someone's pain and making an attempt to help them find a path through it. I had this conversation with a fellow coworker whose mother had passed almost a year ago; the pain is still tender and she is trying to deal with it to the best of her abilities. Another act I wanted to pull off included donating all of my old clothes to someone in need. It is certainly true that someone's old is another person's definition of new ("Chernoff"). Gandhi said it best when he uttered the words, "Be the change you want to see in the world". By participating in random acts of kindness, you are inspiring others in the process to do the same. The possibilities are endless and if we all come together, we can turn the world around ultimately. You may believe that you are one person in this world compacted with a billion other people; however, to one person, at one single ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
