Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper
Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical practices makes me wonder what these practices are
actually fulfilling. There are many different ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student's
perspective, the teacher's perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was in high school and, after learning in
detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as
someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher's role should be. I think we need to
shift our focus to an open–minded and open environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe
haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded
and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open–minded in the sense of viewing
things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as though too many teachers close
the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy.

Workmanship: Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart
Workmanship is characterized distinctively by every individual, and I have a tendency to incline towards an individual definition too. It is a play on
the expressions of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart when he was alluding to foulness. "I know it when I see it." This permits me to perceive
what I consider craftsmanship, and it additionally issues me the capacity to choose what sorts of workmanship address me. Most local craftsmanship
is considered specialty work on the grounds that they were intended to be used as commonsense apparatuses. A few cases incorporate, woven covers
and mats, earthenware, and bushel. Different bits of their craft fall inside a couple of different classes, and incorporate gems, beadwork, and hoods.

appearance over the long run. I am certain that this needs to be considered when the piece in made.I might want to examine the Pueblo staying of the

Western Painting
Many people say that arts come from life. Whatever you face in your daily experience, all of them would become the source, the inspiration, the soul
of the artwork. In this essay,I would like to focus on the paintings form of art. How do the paintings reflect the attitude of the artists? How do the
paintings reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western people, paintings are just not about the skills, but they
also convey the feelings of the artists. Needless to say, there is still a great divergence of traditionalChinese painting and Western painting. Generally
speaking, Chinese painters love to use realistic techniques to express unrealistic things and their feelings in addition to the fact that they want ... Show

So I would combine them together as to compare with Chinese painting style more sophisticatedly. Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western
abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite
different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather than national feelings by using
objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color–field painting was the development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the
fact that background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in color–field painting is the color, the
object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland
represented the color–field painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected to the restrictions
imposed by naming movements. He said "I'm not interested in 'abstracting' or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I
paint this way because I can keep putting more things in it – drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through your eyes it
again becomes an emotion or idea."(Artstory foundation). It means he like the freedom of painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous
paintings were the women features. In the other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted on producing his paintings in soak–stain
technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine how the background integrated with the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will
use each one of the paintings for the two style to illustrate its difference and the value

Socrates 's Influence On The Youth
Socrates' claims that he could not have harmed the youth of Athens willingly, and his claim that all desire is for the good, are interconnected with
each other. For Socrates claim about his influence on the youth to be true, the claim that everyone desires for virtuous things and not wicked, must
also be true. The Meno states that: It is clear then that those who do not know things to be bad do not desire what is bad, but they desire those
things that they believe to be good but that are in fact bad. It follows that those who have knowledge of these things and believe them to be good
clearly desire good things (Meno 77e). The key point in the above statement is that sometimes someone does something morally wrong with the belief
that their action are upstanding. They may justify their action by their feelings that they feel at the moment when otherwise they would know that that
action is bad. This is an acceptable point of view because Socrates never said that it has to be a true belief. As long as one has it in their mind at the
moment that the action is a justified one then they follow Socrates example. The above quote leave the question then what happens to those that
acknowledge the things that they do are immoral? The answer there are no such people. Comparable to the eastern philosophy of karma, Socrates
proclaims that those who do bad believe that detrimental things will come back to harm them too. That being harmed leads a person to be miserable
and unhappy, and no

Cecily Brown is an active and acclaimed painter born in London in 1969. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts from Slade School of Fine
Art in 1993. She has lived and worked in New York City since 1995 and has been exhibited in institutions across the United States and Europe such as
Whitney Museum of American Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Tate Gallery, and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Her work can be
described as tension filled scenes that drift over the border of figuration and abstraction, which often results in her categorization as a
"Neo–Expressionist" or a feminist Abstract Expressionism.

[...] This prejudice worked strongly against inclusion in the Abstract Expressionist pantheon of ethnic as well as sexual minorities, because the interests
of such artists did not generally lend themselves to creating works that would qualify as "pure."
Cecily Brown's use of abstraction, nudity, male and female bodily manipulation, and erroticism come together to challenge subjects and movements
that are historically male dominated. The three main elements of Cecily Brown's work (figuration, tension, and abstraction) contain references to past
artistic personas and movements. She is influenced by the dark expressiveness of Francisco Goya's figures, Edgar Degas's creation of nearly sadistic
scenes with strong colors, and the fluid vulgarity of Abstract Expressionism. The successful mixture of these elements has branded Brown as a
"Neo–Expressionist" and as a result she has met much success in establishing a painting career in New York

Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay
When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the
identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of
visitors daily trekking to see "the" Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To
help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put
forth by Frank Sibley in "Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting" which draws upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and
Elgin in "Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the World?". After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley's arguments bringing
them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed in the two articles.
When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism; where one text produces one work with multiple
valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations. This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects.
"Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality". He argues that literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in
the physical world one cannot

Glisten Essay
I decided to choose my subject by walking around the museum and seeing which one "called" to me. I chose Glisten (1972) by Sam Gilliam because
the bright colors grabbed me as soon as I saw it and a feeling of happiness washed over me. Sam Gilliam (b. 1933) is a very well known
African–American painter, innovative for his use of three–dimensional canvases (University of Kentucky), who is a part of the American Abstract
Artists group, as well as many other movements, such as the WashingtonColor Field movement (Malyon). Glisten is a 27 x 73 15/16 x 3" acrylic on

The colors have a mostly high value and equally low and high saturation. Seeing as this is a non–representational piece of art, I can only say local color
is being used.
Though it's safe to say no color goes unused in this work, I notice a lot of usage of blues/purples, reds, and yellows. I believe he uses these colors to
convey the message he is sending. The color gives the painting a lot of emotion, as if you're looking at a sad mood turn into a bright happy one. In
addition to its emotional effect, I can visualize the bright yellow at the top of the painting representing the sun. I can gather this from the title, as if the
sun's yellow rays are "glistening" on the blue hues below, possibly water.
The color scheme of the painting looks as if it's somewhere along the lines of complementary and analogous. The colors contrast each other, but
also compliment them in a very specific way. It is very clear with the splashes of red on the blue down in the bottom left corner. This work has a
very open palette, as you can tell by the usage of many colors. The color is very expressionistic. The intentional variation of the color speaks volumes
of the mood being portrayed. When standing in front of the painting, the dominating warm colors seem to disregard the sad blues and purples, giving
the observer a happy, peaceful feeling. I would imagine looking at the

Difference Between Group Work And Group Work
пЃ¶Introduction
In today's modern era of this world work is very important for everyone. No one can survive in this world without any work. Work is a activity
where we can apply our ideas in an particular situation. We can't define work as a single type or term because work is comes with its number of
parts and types like SOCIAL, PROJECT WORK and much more types. In this paper I am going to flash a light on Group work and Individual work
and which is better from both of them.
1.Group Work
Group work is also known as team work when two or more than two persons are working on a same project is known as group work. In group work
we can share our ideas with our co–partners and give that idea a new shape. Group work is a type of voluntary association that increases the total output
of the activity rather than it is done by individually.
More ideas
In a group every person had its own ideas, prospects and experiences. In a group every person is belong from an different backgrounds and have a
different experiences so that's why every person have an different ideas on his basis that's why we can get lot ideas in our group work.
Increase Productivity
By making actions and decisions together (regardless of their position). By working in a group chances of mistake is very less. By spending too much
hours with each group member on the discussion about an work than we get very effective results which increase the productivity of our work.

of work. The random behavior an individual conducts on daily basis is thought to be orderly and consistent and differs with personalities as people
use their perception and judgment in different ways. The best way to conduct this test is through an experienced MBIT administrator, however, there
are online tools than can help one achieve almost similar results. Our life experiences play an important role in this test as what we have done or have

From the test I conducted online on myself the results were ENTP. The URL for the site is http://www.personalitypathways.com

mental energy is mostly influenced by the environment. In case of an abrupt event, I act first then reflect later on the consequences of my actions. I
prefer spending my leisure time with my friends partying and not just sitting reading books or enjoying lonely walks at night. In case I am grounded
I feel deprived as the interaction which I have with the outside world is cut. When I get into a new environment, it is easy for me to get new friends
as they are source of my joy and motivation. Being in a crowd is not a problem to me at any occasion. The outside world

Language Influences On Children 's Formation Of Social...
Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand and sort out. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large
amounts of knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they
encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in children's formation of social
categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how
children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair

The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual cues, or non–intrinsic cues. The study addressed the
hypothesis that young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the
hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming representations of social
groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words, language
appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make
social categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more exposed to different
parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there
is a certain way that children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji & Carey, 2014).
The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the
absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports the social categorization among both four year

Plagiarism is a act of imprinting another person's writing, conversation, or even ideas. This even includes the information one gets from WebPages, the

Paraphrasing is also considered plagiarism if done without proper internal citation. Plagiarism stays still unclear because often the boundary between
plagiarism and research is unclear. Plagiarism is also considered as academic dishonesty and breach of ethics. It's not a crime though which must have a

Salt On The Mina Mina Analysis
To the indigenous Aboriginal peoples of Australia, art is a custodial right given to them to retell and carry on their cultural tradition known as Jukurrpa.
Jukurrpa, or Dreaming as referred to by non–indigenous westerners, encapsulates the story of the ancestral beings who created the world as well as the
laws, and the moral codes that the Aboriginals live by. Custodial right of certain kinds of Jukurrpa are granted to Aborginal artists to illustrate as they
grow older. Upon being granted the right to paint Mina Mina by the Walpiri people, Dorothy Napangardi started to paint Karntakurlangu Jukurrpa
which was her depiction of the ancestral ceremonies on Mina Mina. Her painting, Salt on Mina Mina (Fig.1), is a reflection and reliving of her
ancestral past and an assurance of good in the future, told in the style of western contemporary painting. To understand the story behind the abstract
Aboriginal paintings, the concept of Jukurrpa or Dreaming must be understood. Also referred to as Dreamtime, although widely rejected now,

Expository Teaching
Highly abstract concepts, such as jurisprudence and sovereignty, oftentimes cause high school students much struggle when trying to thoroughly
understand such conceptual ideas. To teach these theoretical concepts, one must not only equivalently utilize David Ausubel's Expository teaching
model, but also retain an overall knowledge of other valuable strategies related to Ausubels's model (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). To Ausubel, the most
significant idea is that of the advance organizer, a statement of introduction that aids students in organizing the information about to be presented. Also
to a teacher's benefit are the ideas needed to form a concept, such as exemplars, defining features, irrelevant features, non–examples, and prototypes. ...

Reviewing material introduced in question and answer format is an efficient way to connect the information back to the advance organizer.
Sovereignty also has a core meaning, "supreme authority within a territory". In other words, the holder of sovereignty is superior to all authorities
under its purview (plato.stanford.edu). The advance organizer for sovereignty might include a comparison of different types of "supreme" authorities.
One might ask questions such as, "Is high school an example of sovereignty?", or "Is your family an example of sovereignty?" A discussion of other
countries, historically and today, would also help expand this idea. Discussing the prototype of each idea will help in relating the content covered back
to the advance organizer. While using expository teaching to present a concept, one would start with an advance organizer. A comparative organizer,
which compares old and new information, would aid in beginning a lesson dealing with the concept of mammals (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). The lesson
could begin with a statement or diagram that connects several different mammals and deals with comparing and contrasting their relationship. A
teacher would continue by naming and defining the concept, and producing exemplars, or actual instances. Mammals can be defined as various
"warm–blooded vertebrate animals of the class Mammalia, including humans, characterized by a covering of hair on the skin, and in the

Rothko was well accepted in the New York art community, but experienced limited success during this time. Needing to add to his income he took a
position at the Center Academy instructing sculpture and painting and maintained this position from 1929 to 1952. As Rothko advanced in his painting
style he began to metamorphose from using imagery and symbolism to using colour fields. Typically his paintings feature large rectangular expanses of
colour arranged parallel to each other, usually in a vertical arrangement. The edges of these shapes are softly uneven, giving them a hazy, pulsating
quality, and they seem to gently hover or float over the canvas. The paintings are often very large and the effect they produce is generally one of
calmness and contemplation, but in spite of their tranquility, they cost Rothko enormous emotional effort: 'I'm not an abstract artist...I'm not interested
in the relationship of colour or form or anything else. I'm interested only in expressing basic human emotions–tragedy, ecstasy, doom and so on. And
the fact that a lot of people break down and cry when confronted with my pictures show that I can communicate these basic human emotions...The
people who weep before my pictures are having the same religious experience as I had when I painted them ( Chilvers 515).' In 1960, for the first

Therefore, without having the fundamental language it would be difficult to form an idea around a scientific concept.
One concept which I want to remember is that choice is the key to motivating writers. I want to remember this concept because I believe choice is
necessary to allow writers to use their previously experience and interests to feel engaged while writing. Additionally, I believe the concept of
choice can also be used to motivate reading as well. This is significant because I believe when a topic correlates with the student interests or
experience they are able to use a more expansive conceptual framework when writing. Therefore, I have always personally enjoy reading or writing
more the more I am able to make connections to my personal experience, interests, or ideology. Conclusively, I believe when choice is given in writing

Another term I felt important in this chapter was immersion. Immersion, in the context of learning, is allowing oneself to experience a variety of

Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay
Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn
The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and silver–garnished things, and a casual reader might
be tempted to accept these at face value, as simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not the case.
Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles,
but instead as metaphors for and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity.
In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more substantial and ... Show more content on

What is the metaphysical "truth" then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as "Conformity to
fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be."; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is Bertrand
Russell's:
"Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of all the devotion of which the human spirit is
capable.". Keats is essentially saying through the urn that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual
attribute of an object.
An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken
into five parts.
The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster–child, a historian. All these personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract
actions related to those roles which Keats assigns to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of observations
on what is painted on the urn. "What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? / What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and
timbrels? What wild ecstasy?" (lines 8–10) is another demonstration; he makes

Veronica By A Famous Modern Artist Jay Defeo
While walking through the halls of the museum, I was in a rather skeptical attitude, because after several halls, none of the paintings particularly
impressed me. They were all too confusing, too simple. So it continued until I went into a room with huge canvases, and that 's where my eyes got
attracted to an artwork that has later become my favorite. The large, towering almost to the ceiling vertical canvas intrigued me with its colors and
texture, and in the description has been written that this is the work called "Veronica" by a famous modern artist Jay DeFeo, and it's been created
pretty a long time ago– in 1967. This piece is drawn in a very nice mix of colors and looks like a silk thread aspiring up and shimmering with all
shades of bronze and gold. The painting is done in the abstract style so that everyone sees in it something of their own– a feather, wood texture, a piece
of fabric– as far as the imagination will suffice. According to the author, it should be Veronica's veil– a piece of cloth which bears the likeness of the
face of Jesus. In Gospel, during the Passion of Christ, one of the holy women who accompanied him to Calvary, offered him a towel on which he left
the imprint of his face. Whether the artist is embedded in this work some deep (religious) meaning or not – I don't know, so I appreciated the painting
from an aesthetic point of view. I really liked the technique that DeFeo used to create big and small strokes and transitions between shades: it

David Lewis 's New Work For A Theory Of Universals
One consequence of viewing ontology and identity as relative is that properties and universals hardly seem much more problematic. Although
universals obviously do not exist on a fundamental level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions on the scope
of universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis's essay "New Work for a Theory of Universals" (1983) is quite extensive in its scope and
insight, I only wish to draw attention to his reasoning about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction between "property"
and "universal" than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word "property" very broadly: an object has a property by virtue of being a member of a
set, so there are as many properties as there are sets. Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds, he must recognize a vast
and exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and non–square largeness as much as there is a property of redness, both being sets.
Obviously not everything that is designated a property can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that can be wholly present in multiple
locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those given by empirical science (natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as
universals. In "Universals as Attributes," Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as uninstantiated abstractions. Rather, he

A Picture Tells A Million Stories in Francis Bacon...
Symbolism is the practice of attributing significance to objects, events, or relationships. Symbols can tell a story that is deeper and more personal.
People can use symbols in many different ways; through stories, poetry, and painting, but are not limited to those subjects. Francis Bacon used many
symbols in his paintings. By doing this he did not give the viewer just something to look at but, something to decipher. This way Bacon could tell the
story of his life, show his emotions, and make a deeper meaning out of something he enjoyed. Francis Bacon, through his life and painting style, creates
a memoir in his 1973 Self–Portrait.
Even though Bacon's life was problematic, success came from his paintings. He was born in Dublin, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacon's life was engaged with the cruelties and suffering of this world, his life was prosperous from his paintings("Francis Bacon.").
The expressionism is used in Francis Bacon's paintings. Expressionism is a technique of art that distorts and exaggerates for emotional effect. "His
images of distorted, mutilated, melting, bleeding, screaming, caged, and confined flesh are potent incarnations of the human condition in the 20th
century" (Gay & Lesbian Biography). The mutilated human flesh had great influence on the emotions of the people who sees his paintings. The
critic Yvor Winters called Francis Bacon a moral artist, he explains, "[A] moral artist does not shy from exploring the extremes of human experience,
but he portrays evil as evil and makes us know it is evil" (Yezzi). This painting that Yezzi saw made him feel the mood as evil. The paintings evil
elements are over emphasized so that emotions of the viewer would be moved. In Francis Bacon's paintings, the technique of expressionism is used.
Bacon's Self–Portrait of 1973 serves as a memoir for his life. In this painting Francis Bacon had painted himself with a distorted face. When Bacon
was younger "In [that] world, homosexuality was a defect and a 'limp'" (Langer). All of his life he grew up thinking that he had a defect. By
physically distorting his face perhaps, is a symbol of him feeling this way. Also, while Bacon was younger, he was casted out of his house by his
father. "16–year–old Bacon

Snow Pines : A Critique Of Helen Frankenthaler Snow Pines
I chose to critique Helen Frankenthaler Snow Pines at in the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art from 2004 in Garland Hall at the University of Alabama.
Description
Acclaimed artist Helen Frankenthaler created a work of art that was influenced by abstract expressionism. His, Snow Pines (2004), predominately
utilizes woodblock printing technique . This artwork is considered a Woodblock prints––a block of wood on whose surface a design for printing is
engraved along the grain. Frankenthaler doesn't utilizes any form of shapes in her artwork however, she does uses pigments mixed with water that are
then lightly brushed onto a piece of wood. While observing this up close (seen in the smaller picture), you notice scratches of wood lines in the
background of the artwork. This was achieved by the technique of woodcutting–– make a woodcut without a press by placing the inked block against a
sheet of paper and applying pressure by hand. These lines help illustrates the wood texture of the artwork. From glimpsing for the first time, I noticed
the translucence of the color illustrating the light, vibrant tone .The colors used in Frankenthaler's art are mostly comprised of warm colors––yellow,
red, orange and pink–– and cool colors: green and blue. The artwork flows from warm colors to cool colors. The color scheme is analogous as the
piece include variations in color between hues adjacent to one another on the color wheel, such as yellow–green, green, and blue–green. Due to the

Comforts Make Humans Dumber
Dona Syriani AP English Composition Ms. Rhodehouse December 14, 2014 Comforts Make Humans Dumber Comfort is a freedom from pain or
constraint. Comfort is state of ease not only to the body, but to the human mind as well. People's minds were evolving and getting bigger and
became highly functional trying to find the best way to change the face of life. With all the new inventions people passed the line of essentials.
People acquired the comforts of life that took away the focus from what is necessary. Are the comforts making people's lives exceedingly enjoyable?
Or are they somehow limiting their ability to think and do daily tasks? All the new contrivances around the clock advanced life in every possible way.
By doing so, people got lazy.

The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars
Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell
in his paper "The Metaphysic of Abstract Particulars." I will then present a counter argument to Campbell's evaluation and provide possible responses
to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to create a more sound argument.
Campbell's Argument:
Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of concrete particulars and the other being abstract
universals. Particulars are "unproblematic," but universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. Aparticular
"distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example." (Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they
are restricted to a single point at any given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those instances. The
number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this "problem" can be
alleviated if properties were not universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the distinction between
universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that

Developing A Framework Is A Major Step For Research Process
Developing a framework is a major step in research process. As Doctor of nursing practice(DNP), it is important to understand theories and
framework related to theoretical ideas and application. The term Concept used in nursing to describe or name a phenomenon to give meaning. (Grove,
S., Burns, N., & Gray, J., 2013). Depression is an example of a concept which relates to low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, lack of motivation,
decreased energy and low self–esteem. Concepts differ at the level of abstraction. According to Grove, S, et al. (2013) relationships statement between
two or more concepts provides a framework leading to the study objective, hypothesis, study design and statistical analysis needed. Abstract concepts
may not apply to clinical practice. Conceptual model also is known as grand theory is used to explain philosophical standpoint. The theory consists of
concepts and rational statements used to describe their relationship. Scientific theories are considered law because of their relationship which has
evidence. Middle range theories are relevant to both research and practice. it developed from qualitative data, clinical experiences, clinical practice
guidelines. Middle range theory compared with the grand theory is less abstract, and more frequently used. Middle range theory helps the practitioner

Differences Between Hylas And Philonous
Abstract ideas pertaining to epistemology in philosophy are almost as old as the concept of philosophy itself. Dating back to thinkers such as
Aristotle, carrying on throughout the medieval period and into modern philosophy, abstracts have always been grappled with. George Berkeley's
epistemology about abstract ideas has historically been one that has drawn the attention of many other scholars and philosophical thinkers. His
thoughts on ideas, specifically his expansion of Locke's general abstract ideas, are still argued to this very day. His critique of Locke's view of
abstract ideas and ideas in general, is successful in refuting his claims, and is validated in the Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, and
can be expanded upon in another one of Berkeley's works, A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. Berkeley's work, Three
Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, can be described as a series of dialogues between Hylas and Philonous regarding philosophical issues such
as God and materialistic substances as well as ideas. The overall goal of the work was "to demonstrate the reality and perfection of human
knowledge" along with " the incorporeal nature of the soul, and the immediate providence of a deity, in opposition to sceptics" as well as
"atheists".(Berkeley, pg xi)Throughout the work, it can be deduced that Philonous represents Berkeley's own point of view regarding the argument at
hand, while Hylas represents various opinions that oppose

Colour can be defined as the result of light hitting an object and its resulting perception based on the physics of sight or the eye. Artist have been
theorising and implementing colour and colour relationships for many years, and through many artist/art movements. Successful use and understanding
of colour can elevate a particular piece of art far beyond any that do not successfully implement colour and its various elements. For this essay I will
explore the painting "Wo ist Ein ZigarrengeschГ¤ft" (1954) by Jean Phillipe Dallaire(Fig 1–3). In this exploration I will examine aspects of this
painting which include Dallaire 's use of form, and colour. While also considering briefly Dallaire 's painting in in comparison to Jean Dubuffet 's,
painting "The Dandy"(1954)(Fig 4). Both paintings originate from the same era with two artist interpretations of colour and form, and two sets of
techniques. Before considering the painting itself I will examine the artist himself, as this will help in understanding his painting, "Wo ist Ein
ZigarrengeschГ¤ft"(1954). Jean Dallaire (1916–1965), is a Canadian artist who was known for his work as a painter, illustrator, and professor. His
work is considered as expressive with the use of festive images, shapes, colour and form, where the real and the imaginary come together in a visual
experience (Cheff, 2008). Jean attended art classes in both Canada and the united states, but his practice was built on mainly self teaching.

The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay
The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History
In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O'Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way in which his actions affect them gives the audience
some characteristics to decide on the personality of particular characters.
Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is
also clear that he is important to O'Neill because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis.
Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the other characters almost like a buffer. His calm nature in
times of distress or excitement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the play would be a lot more negative and the audience
would be more likely to feel insecure about the flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds diversity
to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and obviously intelligent character and his political
soundness can mock characters like O'Donnell. When compared to characters like O'Donnell
Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon.
Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O'Neill to show a weakness in O'Neill's character. O'Neill uses Harry to portray
certain characters via contrast and particularly O'Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O'Neill takes Harry for granted showing
another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O'Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately
shows that O'Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O'Neill that
could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose

Generating Creative Ideas for Business Through...
Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to take and use the methods to generate creative ideas for product to be marketed and test new ideas. The
methods are the focus group method, brainstorming, brainwriting and problem inventory analysis. These methods are best suitable for an organization
that needs expansion in products or services
First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals providing information in a structured format. A moderator leads the group

designed to generate lots and lots of ideas in a short amount of time. This is method more to writing to convey new ideas for products. It also takes
place in groups where each group member will write their ideas over time.
This method has three rules that must be followed, namely the need to write or carry forward cycle contributed three ideas in 5 minutes should be
written in the form brainwriting then give it to the next member. This is more of a discussion circle forward theidea of each member. Next rules is
following that members read every idea that was written to serve as an inspiration to be create creative idea, if there is an idea written on the same
form barinwriting, finally, this method requires 6 participants sit together and helped by a moderator.
Lastly is problem inventory analysis method, problem inventory analysis is a method of obtaining new ideas and solutions by focusing on problems
for certain product categories, customers usually given a list of known problems for a particular product category and then asked to identify and

passengers passing by on the tram trying to catch a glimpse of the race, bring the viewers eyes to the three swimmers portrayed trying to see for

They both portray people during important life events and memories. The most obvious difference is the abandonment of realism and trying to portray
the scenes truthfully. In the first painting, The Liffey Swim, Yeats evidently tries to be precise and accurate and to depict the scene truthfully. "Yeats, in
his early works, adopted Sickett's use of short thick strokes of paint and his manner of correlating colour"2. The colours he used are very neutral,
mostly browns, dark blues, muddy reds, and dull yellows, with a contrasting light blue sky which brightens the painting. His use of warm and cold
colours creates unity and variety. His use of warm earthy colours in the foreground creates unity. However, the contrast between the warm earthy
colours in the foreground and the cool blue colours in the background create variety. The waves in the water create a sense of motion and are slightly
more curved around the swimmers showing their impact on the movement of the water. The people depicted leaning forward also create a sense of
motion and action taking place. This sense of movement directs the viewers eyes around the

Figurative Language In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the novel's depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as
allusions, personifications, and similes, establishes a relationship between two literally contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more closely analyze
the subjects for underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and enhance the overall novel by making abstract concepts more digestible.
During the monster's narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to express the monster's anguish and his relationship with Victor. While
the monster identifies with Satan, he also points out, "Satan had his companions, fellow–devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and
abhorred" (Shelley 93). Satan is usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he was exiled from heaven and can no longer live in God's glory.
However, the monster reveals that even Satan is more fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell. The allusion
emphasizes the extent of the monster's loneliness. Additionally, the monster reveals, "Many times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my
condition..." (Shelley 93). Shelley compares the monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil. She emphasizes the monster's miserable
existence, because similar to Satan, his existence has only brought tragedy and evil upon the world. Overall, her comparison to Satan induces readers to

The Inspired Kantian Non–Formalism
The interpretation of Kant as a moral formalist or constructivist precisely, has been dominant in much of the recent secondary literature on Kant in
English–speaking world, for Silber, Rawls and O'Neill we analyzed. Those interpretations have lately come under sustained philosophical attack by the
defenders of a non–moral formalist or realist interpretation of Kant. We have mentioned at the outset, the essential division for formalist and
non–formalist is in their understanding C1 as a 'formal' accomplishment or not. So far we have seen the formalist holds out for the preeminence of
universalzation in the hierarchy of principles, i.e. the buttressing rules Rawls or O'Neill posed. Now we are to see how ... Show more content on

The concept of moral law springs from pure reason or reason that exists separate from empirical considerations. Since pure reason is able to be
relevant to material action, we see a conceptual bridge is constructed in the form of the maxim, to the degree that it is tested in accordance to
prescriptive law, a determinate rule of action. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary and subjectively constructed, while the basis of the
analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on an understanding of moral law.
Hence, Dietrichson points out a non–formal approach to explain Kant, it is non–formal because it raises the humanity–the material for Kant to guide
action. Precisely, because the pure reason enables us to grasp the moral law, we are striking to fulfill the requirement to act 'from' duty as it constitutes
purity of our humanity. Dietrichson did not see the formula of moral law as formal accomplishment that reason alone could indentify moral law, but it

As with almost every aspect of "developed" or "first world" culture, a cloud of laziness accompanies any call to a challenge. Although finding an
easier means of overcoming obstacles has been rooted in human existence since we came to roam the earth, it appears we have achieved a new level
of indolence. Understanding abstract philosophical or religions bares no exception. To witness this one need look no further than todays pop culture. A

This is often portrayed by the Taijitu symbol that most western cultures are familiar with. What is often difficult to understand about Yin–Yang is that
it is ultimately a teaching of metaphysical dualism. This is to say that one is only as much itself as it is the absence of its counterpart; light is just the
absence of darkness. The concept seems simple when applying it to light and dark but when it comes to questions of existence or consciousness it
becomes difficult to understand. Consequently, people, either due to laziness or ignorance, attach themselves to the concrete symbol and the simplest
explanation to accompany it. Thus we see that the Taijitu, in western culture, has itself adopted the name the Yin
–Yang or more absurdly the "Ying–
yang". I have a friend who to this day thinks he has a tattoo Yin–Yang tattoo. It's a pretty abstract and unlimited concept to fit in the confines of ones
skin; I'm not sure if he even is aware of the word Taijitu; I don't think I should ask. The development of concretization, however, cannot lay burden
solely on the symbol. Symbols have been used to represent religions, philosophies and factions of all sorts for thousands of years. Instead, I believe
ignorance, and furthermore the lack of motivation to rid oneself of ignorance, is to blame. This has become increasingly evident in the modernized
world we live in today. In a

Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper

  • 1. Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student's perspective, the teacher's perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher's role should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open–minded and open environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open–minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy. It is a play on the expressions of Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart when he was alluding to foulness. "I know it when I see it." This permits me to perceive what I consider craftsmanship, and it additionally issues me the capacity to choose what sorts of workmanship address me. Most local craftsmanship is considered specialty work on the grounds that they were intended to be used as commonsense apparatuses. A few cases incorporate, woven covers and mats, earthenware, and bushel. Different bits of their craft fall inside a couple of different classes, and incorporate gems, beadwork, and hoods. I am certain that this needs to be considered when the piece in made.I might want to examine the Pueblo staying of the four corners area on the United States. These residence come in numerous shapes and sizes, and I need to concentrate on what have ended up known as bluff abodes. These little towns are typically arranged on a bluff side inside an impression or shallow hollow. These structures are principally utilitarian, however they additionally extremely beautiful. The precipice abiding that I need to concentrate on is the Betatakin demolish in the Navajo National Monument. • 3. Western Painting Many people say that arts come from life. Whatever you face in your daily experience, all of them would become the source, the inspiration, the soul of the artwork. In this essay,I would like to focus on the paintings form of art. How do the paintings reflect the attitude of the artists? How do the paintings reflect the philosophy and value of the world? No matter you are eastern or western people, paintings are just not about the skills, but they also convey the feelings of the artists. Needless to say, there is still a great divergence of traditionalChinese painting and Western painting. Generally speaking, Chinese painters love to use realistic techniques to express unrealistic things and their feelings in addition to the fact that they want ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So I would combine them together as to compare with Chinese painting style more sophisticatedly. Abstract expressionism is the pioneer of western abstract painting style. It was to use exaggerating brushwork to express emotions, so it is similar to Xieyi. However, the level of thinking may be quite different. Most of the artists would like to express their personal feelings like happiness, sadness rather than national feelings by using objects.(Seitz,1983) By contrast, Color–field painting was the development of Abstract expressionism and the purpose was similar in addition to the fact that background was tremendously crucial. (Wilkin,2007) The only difference is that the subject matter in color–field painting is the color, the object is not necssarily important.(Artstory foundation) Willem De Kooning represented the Abstract expressionism while Kenneth Noland represented the color–field painting.Willem De Kooning was the prominent Abstract expressionism painters and urgely objected to the restrictions imposed by naming movements. He said "I'm not interested in 'abstracting' or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep putting more things in it – drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea."(Artstory foundation). It means he like the freedom of painting to tell people his emotions. Some of the famous paintings were the women features. In the other way, Kenneth Noland was an significant painter who insisted on producing his paintings in soak–stain technique. He focused on the choice of color, to determine how the background integrated with the subject to become a full subject.(Webb,2011)I will use each one of the paintings for the two style to illustrate its difference and the value ... • 4. Socrates 's Influence On The Youth Socrates' claims that he could not have harmed the youth of Athens willingly, and his claim that all desire is for the good, are interconnected with each other. For Socrates claim about his influence on the youth to be true, the claim that everyone desires for virtuous things and not wicked, must also be true. The Meno states that: It is clear then that those who do not know things to be bad do not desire what is bad, but they desire those things that they believe to be good but that are in fact bad. It follows that those who have knowledge of these things and believe them to be good clearly desire good things (Meno 77e). The key point in the above statement is that sometimes someone does something morally wrong with the belief that their action are upstanding. They may justify their action by their feelings that they feel at the moment when otherwise they would know that that action is bad. This is an acceptable point of view because Socrates never said that it has to be a true belief. As long as one has it in their mind at the moment that the action is a justified one then they follow Socrates example. The above quote leave the question then what happens to those that acknowledge the things that they do are immoral? The answer there are no such people. Comparable to the eastern philosophy of karma, Socrates proclaims that those who do bad believe that detrimental things will come back to harm them too. That being harmed leads a person to be miserable and unhappy, and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cecily Brown Cecily Brown is an active and acclaimed painter born in London in 1969. She received a Bachelors of Arts in Fine Arts from Slade School of Fine Art in 1993. She has lived and worked in New York City since 1995 and has been exhibited in institutions across the United States and Europe such as Whitney Museum of American Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Tate Gallery, and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. Her work can be described as tension filled scenes that drift over the border of figuration and abstraction, which often results in her categorization as a "Neo–Expressionist" or a feminist Abstract Expressionism. Brown uses the full human figure in her work, and often includes multiple figures whose forms have no harsh brush stroke to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [...] This prejudice worked strongly against inclusion in the Abstract Expressionist pantheon of ethnic as well as sexual minorities, because the interests of such artists did not generally lend themselves to creating works that would qualify as "pure." Cecily Brown's use of abstraction, nudity, male and female bodily manipulation, and erroticism come together to challenge subjects and movements that are historically male dominated. The three main elements of Cecily Brown's work (figuration, tension, and abstraction) contain references to past artistic personas and movements. She is influenced by the dark expressiveness of Francisco Goya's figures, Edgar Degas's creation of nearly sadistic scenes with strong colors, and the fluid vulgarity of Abstract Expressionism. The successful mixture of these elements has branded Brown as a "Neo–Expressionist" and as a result she has met much success in establishing a painting career in New York ... • 6. Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of visitors daily trekking to see "the" Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by Frank Sibley in "Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting" which draws upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in "Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the World?". After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley's arguments bringing them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed in the two articles. When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism; where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations. This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. "Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality". He argues that literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Glisten Essay I decided to choose my subject by walking around the museum and seeing which one "called" to me. I chose Glisten (1972) by Sam Gilliam because the bright colors grabbed me as soon as I saw it and a feeling of happiness washed over me. Sam Gilliam (b. 1933) is a very well known African–American painter, innovative for his use of three–dimensional canvases (University of Kentucky), who is a part of the American Abstract Artists group, as well as many other movements, such as the WashingtonColor Field movement (Malyon). Glisten is a 27 x 73 15/16 x 3" acrylic on canvas 3–dimensional artwork (University of Kentucky). The lines in the painting seem painterly, meaning I couldn't find any distinct borders to them. It seems most apparent in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The colors have a mostly high value and equally low and high saturation. Seeing as this is a non–representational piece of art, I can only say local color is being used. Though it's safe to say no color goes unused in this work, I notice a lot of usage of blues/purples, reds, and yellows. I believe he uses these colors to convey the message he is sending. The color gives the painting a lot of emotion, as if you're looking at a sad mood turn into a bright happy one. In addition to its emotional effect, I can visualize the bright yellow at the top of the painting representing the sun. I can gather this from the title, as if the sun's yellow rays are "glistening" on the blue hues below, possibly water. The color scheme of the painting looks as if it's somewhere along the lines of complementary and analogous. The colors contrast each other, but also compliment them in a very specific way. It is very clear with the splashes of red on the blue down in the bottom left corner. This work has a very open palette, as you can tell by the usage of many colors. The color is very expressionistic. The intentional variation of the color speaks volumes of the mood being portrayed. When standing in front of the painting, the dominating warm colors seem to disregard the sad blues and purples, giving the observer a happy, peaceful feeling. I would imagine looking at the ... The random behavior an individual conducts on daily basis is thought to be orderly and consistent and differs with personalities as people use their perception and judgment in different ways. The best way to conduct this test is through an experienced MBIT administrator, however, there are online tools than can help one achieve almost similar results. Our life experiences play an important role in this test as what we have done or have been doing is what determines the answer an individual gives. From the test I conducted online on myself the results were ENTP. The URL for the site is http://www.personalitypathways.com /type_inventory.html. These results are true as some of my choices of actions throughout my life have been based on the four letters. Firstly, my mental energy is mostly influenced by the environment. In case of an abrupt event, I act first then reflect later on the consequences of my actions. I prefer spending my leisure time with my friends partying and not just sitting reading books or enjoying lonely walks at night. In case I am grounded I feel deprived as the interaction which I have with the outside world is cut. When I get into a new environment, it is easy for me to get new friends as they are source of my joy and motivation. Being in a crowd is not a problem to me at any occasion. The outside world ... • 11. Language Influences On Children 's Formation Of Social... Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand and sort out. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in children's formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair color,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual cues, or non–intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words, language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji & Carey, 2014). The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports the social categorization among both four year ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jukurrpa, or Dreaming as referred to by non–indigenous westerners, encapsulates the story of the ancestral beings who created the world as well as the laws, and the moral codes that the Aboriginals live by. Custodial right of certain kinds of Jukurrpa are granted to Aborginal artists to illustrate as they grow older. Upon being granted the right to paint Mina Mina by the Walpiri people, Dorothy Napangardi started to paint Karntakurlangu Jukurrpa which was her depiction of the ancestral ceremonies on Mina Mina. Her painting, Salt on Mina Mina (Fig.1), is a reflection and reliving of her ancestral past and an assurance of good in the future, told in the style of western contemporary painting. Sovereignty also has a core meaning, "supreme authority within a territory". In other words, the holder of sovereignty is superior to all authorities under its purview (plato.stanford.edu). The advance organizer for sovereignty might include a comparison of different types of "supreme" authorities. One might ask questions such as, "Is high school an example of sovereignty?", or "Is your family an example of sovereignty?" A discussion of other countries, historically and today, would also help expand this idea. Discussing the prototype of each idea will help in relating the content covered back to the advance organizer. While using expository teaching to present a concept, one would start with an advance organizer. A comparative organizer, which compares old and new information, would aid in beginning a lesson dealing with the concept of mammals (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). The lesson could begin with a statement or diagram that connects several different mammals and deals with comparing and contrasting their relationship. Needing to add to his income he took a position at the Center Academy instructing sculpture and painting and maintained this position from 1929 to 1952. As Rothko advanced in his painting style he began to metamorphose from using imagery and symbolism to using colour fields. Typically his paintings feature large rectangular expanses of colour arranged parallel to each other, usually in a vertical arrangement. The edges of these shapes are softly uneven, giving them a hazy, pulsating quality, and they seem to gently hover or float over the canvas. The paintings are often very large and the effect they produce is generally one of calmness and contemplation, but in spite of their tranquility, they cost Rothko enormous emotional effort: 'I'm not an abstract artist...I'm not interested in the relationship of colour or form or anything else. One concept which I want to remember is that choice is the key to motivating writers. I want to remember this concept because I believe choice is necessary to allow writers to use their previously experience and interests to feel engaged while writing. Additionally, I believe the concept of choice can also be used to motivate reading as well. This is significant because I believe when a topic correlates with the student interests or experience they are able to use a more expansive conceptual framework when writing. Therefore, I have always personally enjoy reading or writing more the more I am able to make connections to my personal experience, interests, or ideology. Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and silver–garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not the case. Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity. In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the metaphysical "truth" then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as "Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be."; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is Bertrand Russell's: "Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable.". Keats is essentially saying through the urn that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual attribute of an object. An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts. The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster–child, a historian. All these personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats assigns to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of observations on what is painted on the urn. "What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? / What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?" (lines 8–10) is another demonstration; he makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were all too confusing, too simple. So it continued until I went into a room with huge canvases, and that 's where my eyes got attracted to an artwork that has later become my favorite. The large, towering almost to the ceiling vertical canvas intrigued me with its colors and texture, and in the description has been written that this is the work called "Veronica" by a famous modern artist Jay DeFeo, and it's been created pretty a long time ago– in 1967. This piece is drawn in a very nice mix of colors and looks like a silk thread aspiring up and shimmering with all shades of bronze and gold. The painting is done in the abstract style so that everyone sees in it something of their own– a feather, wood texture, a piece of fabric– as far as the imagination will suffice. According to the author, it should be Veronica's veil– a piece of cloth which bears the likeness of the face of Jesus. In Gospel, during the Passion of Christ, one of the holy women who accompanied him to Calvary, offered him a towel on which he left the imprint of his face. Whether the artist is embedded in this work some deep (religious) meaning or not – I don't know, so I appreciated the painting from an aesthetic point of view. Although universals obviously do not exist on a fundamental level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions on the scope of universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis's essay "New Work for a Theory of Universals" (1983) is quite extensive in its scope and insight, I only wish to draw attention to his reasoning about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction between "property" and "universal" than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word "property" very broadly: an object has a property by virtue of being a member of a set, so there are as many properties as there are sets. Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds, he must recognize a vast and exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and non–square largeness as much as there is a property of redness, both being sets. Obviously not everything that is designated a property can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that can be wholly present in multiple locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those given by empirical science (natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as universals. In "Universals as Attributes," Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as uninstantiated abstractions. Rather, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Francis Bacon used many symbols in his paintings. By doing this he did not give the viewer just something to look at but, something to decipher. This way Bacon could tell the story of his life, show his emotions, and make a deeper meaning out of something he enjoyed. The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper "The Metaphysic of Abstract Particulars." I will then present a counter argument to Campbell's evaluation and provide possible responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to create a more sound argument. Campbell's Argument: Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are "unproblematic," but universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. Aparticular "distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example." (Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point at any given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this "problem" can be alleviated if properties were not universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dating back to thinkers such as Aristotle, carrying on throughout the medieval period and into modern philosophy, abstracts have always been grappled with. George Berkeley's epistemology about abstract ideas has historically been one that has drawn the attention of many other scholars and philosophical thinkers. His thoughts on ideas, specifically his expansion of Locke's general abstract ideas, are still argued to this very day. His critique of Locke's view of abstract ideas and ideas in general, is successful in refuting his claims, and is validated in the Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, and can be expanded upon in another one of Berkeley's works, A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. Berkeley's work, Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, can be described as a series of dialogues between Hylas and Philonous regarding philosophical issues such as God and materialistic substances as well as ideas. We have mentioned at the outset, the essential division for formalist and non–formalist is in their understanding C1 as a 'formal' accomplishment or not. So far we have seen the formalist holds out for the preeminence of universalzation in the hierarchy of principles, i.e. the buttressing rules Rawls or O'Neill posed. Now we are to see how ... Since pure reason is able to be relevant to material action, we see a conceptual bridge is constructed in the form of the maxim, to the degree that it is tested in accordance to prescriptive law, a determinate rule of action. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary and subjectively constructed, while the basis of the analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on an understanding of moral law. Hence, Dietrichson points out a non–formal approach to explain Kant, it is non–formal because it raises the humanity–the material for Kant to guide action. Precisely, because the pure reason enables us to grasp the moral law, we are striking to fulfill the requirement to act 'from' duty as it constitutes purity of our humanity. Dietrichson did not see the formula of moral law as formal accomplishment that reason alone could indentify moral law, but it must have non–formal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Comfort In Simplicity Analysis Comfort in Simplicity Some of the most insignificant objects may be the most important despite where it may be, how it looks, and how little of an impact it makes on one's life. One can be showered in grand clothing, perhaps a dress made of the softest silk, like a sheet of water, billowing and beautiful as they stun the viewers of its intricate magnificence. Even so, deep in the recesses of their heart they may be desiring for something more simple. Beauty does not equal comfort. When we reach the end of the day, we want reach for something cozy and enjoyable. By nature, I'm not a person who seeks to be noticed. Granted, I am on the short and petite side, so clothing I considered 'big' is almost always a medium on everyone else. My hoodie almost reaches to the middle of my thighs. The sleeves are baggy and spacious and my number one weapon of choice when it comes to playfully whacking people. It's a darker shade of navy and is perfect for blending into crowds. Starting from the top, there is a hood. I find it ridiculous and only use it when there's more than a light drizzle because it's long and pointy in the back, making it look like a witch's hat, but horizontal. On the front, it says Disneyland Resort in white with a faded blue, white, and black Mickey Mouse behind the words. It's quite cute in an endearing kind of way. Below it is a huge pocket that I can store many things in. The most common things in there would be my hands, a phone, and a pencil and eraser. It has the capacity to hold six smart phones at one time, which I tested while holding my friend's phones and not stealing from a phone store. It's constant usage has made it soft, but its durability kept it from wearing down. When wearing it, I come off as either an adorable child or a grumpy student, depending on my ... • 42. Concretization Essay example Concretization As with almost every aspect of "developed" or "first world" culture, a cloud of laziness accompanies any call to a challenge. Although finding an easier means of overcoming obstacles has been rooted in human existence since we came to roam the earth, it appears we have achieved a new level of indolence. Understanding abstract philosophical or religions bares no exception. To witness this one need look no further than todays pop culture. A quick Google search of "celebrity tattoos" yields upwards of 54 million results in a little over 2 tenths of a second. Riddled among the image results are countless crosses, Taijitu's, words in Sanskrit and other philosophical or religious symbols. Riddled among these are famous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is often portrayed by the Taijitu symbol that most western cultures are familiar with. What is often difficult to understand about Yin–Yang is that it is ultimately a teaching of metaphysical dualism. This is to say that one is only as much itself as it is the absence of its counterpart; light is just the absence of darkness. The concept seems simple when applying it to light and dark but when it comes to questions of existence or consciousness it becomes difficult to understand. Consequently, people, either due to laziness or ignorance, attach themselves to the concrete symbol and the simplest explanation to accompany it. Thus we see that the Taijitu, in western culture, has itself adopted the name the Yin –Yang or more absurdly the "Ying– yang". I have a friend who to this day thinks he has a tattoo Yin–Yang tattoo. It's a pretty abstract and unlimited concept to fit in the confines of ones skin; I'm not sure if he even is aware of the word Taijitu; I don't think I should ask. The development of concretization, however, cannot lay burden solely on the symbol. Symbols have been used to represent religions, philosophies and factions of all sorts for thousands of years. Instead, I believe ignorance, and furthermore the lack of motivation to rid oneself of ignorance, is to blame. This has become increasingly evident in the modernized world we live in today. In a ...
