Compare And Contrast Online And Traditional Classes
Going to college is a major thing for a young adult who has just graduated from high school. The
thought of acquiring knowledge in one's field of interest and having opportunities to experience
college life is appealing. Online and Traditional classes are both ways to pursue higher education
and to achieve goals depending on the mode of studies which works best according to the person's
life. The important thing is to put into consideration before deciding which process of learning is
suitable for a person is to know how online and traditional classes differ in terms of how flexible the
schedule is, communication and the availability of resources and its challenges.
One of the most important things to consider when deciding to take online or traditional classes is
the flexibility of schedules. Online classes are structured to be flexible. It is less stressful and allows
people to study where they want to and in their own spare time without having to be present in class.
This mode of study is very suitable for people who have a busy life; balancing work and other
responsibilities. Traditional classes, however, have a more fixed structure, here students are required
to be present in class at a particular time and day and work within a timeframe. Many people prefer
the classroom learning because the environment provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lovers of online classes may argue that it is less costly as a person gets the needed education, where
and when he or she wants without having to commute to class every time there are lectures. It is
necessary also know that, online classes take a lot of self–discipline, great motivation and one needs
to be responsible to be able to accomplish given tasks without procrastinating. Students taking
online classes are secluded from campus activities and they miss out on opportunities which help
them succeed in their future

Case for Student Communication in Online Classes
Article Summary: Case for Student Communication in Online Classes. 7/30/2013
"Technology has revolutionized the way we communicate, the way we live, and the way we learn."
(Maddix; 2010). During these recent years web– based learning has gained so much popularity that,
online courses enrolments continue to climb, but retention and completion rates in such courses and
programs are lower than traditional classroom schooling. Because of these problems educators have
looked into the problems to see what can be done to reverse the trend. As more formal education
courses become available online, quality and non–completion remain a problem. This brings me to
ask the question, that how much relationship should I build into ... Show more content on

According to Carr, Cox, Eden and Hanslo (2004), "students who focused on building knowledge and
collaborative interactions had a superior average performance, as challenging online interactions
promote understanding". Interactive learning help instructors with the misconception students have
on subjects, conceptual problems, and difficulties on topics. Immediate feedback from peers and
instructors and social interaction built into the online discussions contribute to learning. (Collins,
brown, & Holum, 1991). "Collaborative learning activities contribute to learning, critical thinking
skills, a shared understanding, and long–term retention". (Garrison, Anderson, and Archer, 2001)
"Interaction is conducive to the emergence of the community of practice" (Collins et al; 1991) and a
virtual community of learners (Collison, Elbaum, Haavind, & Tinker, 2000). "Learning from your
peers in a structured way can ameliorate the social isolation online students often experience ".
(Boud, Cohen, & Sampson, 1999) as compare to traditional classroom learning. Collaborative
learning groups solve problems while sharing and clarifying ideas (Cox et al., 2004), which is
normally difficult to get in individual learning on their known. In the community of practice novices

Read-Only Participants: A Case For Student Communication...
There are many different ways to obtain a college degree, whether it is attending class in a
classroom or taking online courses. Online learning is the more popular way nowadays because it is
more convenient and more flexible, however, there are stipulations to taking online classes. In the
"Read–Only Participants: A Case for Student Communication in Online Classes" article, it breaks
down the ins and outs of online learning and how it can be beneficial to the students, the advantages
and disadvantages, and how you can be a successful student by participating and not just being a
"read–only" student. Advantages/Disadvantages of Online Learning Can you imagine life without
technology! Today living without technology is almost impossible for most people in the world
since they depend on it for their everyday programs. People all around the world use technology to
connect with people thousands of miles away and technology have made the lives of today's
growing society a lot easier. Nowadays, people do not have time to go to a classroom, but rather
learn online and take advantage of online classes to earn a college degree. Technology today makes
online learning a simple process, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

obtaining your college degree from the convenience of your own home has made it easy for students
to continue on with their everyday life. This article has given me a whole new perspective to this
online learning experience. Through the group assignments and class participation, online learning
generates relationships amongst peers and instructors and allows us as the students to value each
individual student's walks of life under the same subject. This online course will prepare me to

The Importance Of Equal Access To School Success
When teachers are faced with a diverse set of social–classes, it is important that they provide
assistance for the student's success that is equally given throughout all working and upper– middle
class children and families. Lareau's work has shaped an approach to collaborate with all social class
families and helped shape three specific strategies to promote equal access to school success for
both the children and families in different social–class standings. This paper will focus on both
working– class and upper–middle class child's success, by supporting the importance of school
involved after–school programs that help build ones' encouragement to work in groups and expose
children to conductive play, providence of public computers with internet access and opportunities
to contacting teachers during after school hours for extra assistance, and also supporting parent and
teacher interactions with meetings periodically throughout the school year to show the child's
success. While providing afterschool programs, extra assistance outside of class and supporting
interactions between the parent and teacher, children represented from all social classes will have
equal access to school success.
While coming up with strategies to use for children's equal school success throughout different
social–classes, thinking back to the families discussed in the book, Unequal Childhoods: Class,
Race, and Family Life, by Annette Lareau, helped encourage developing a program that all

Brandman University Online courses have become more common among colleges and universities.
About thirty percent of all college and university students are enrolled in at least one online course
(Bergstrand, Savage, 2013). Online classes provide flexibly for students, allowing them to work
more hours or care for their families. Studies have found that there is no drastic difference in student
achievement whether they are enrolled in traditional classes or online classes (Bergstrand,2013).

The conflict theory among the educational system has been considered to favor wealthy groups of
society due to the amount of tuition needed. However, while it is still difficult for some groups of
society to receive financing for college, attending college has become more accessible. The conflict
for online students is the ability to be familiar and comfortable with technology. An issue that can
occur is computer illiteracy. It is common to sit in a traditional classroom and see people of all ages.
The issue in online classrooms is that people from older generations may not be as familiar with
navigating websites and utilizing everything the web has to offer. Some students find it difficult to
interact through discussion boards, email, etc. When an individual does not have much knowledge
about technology the conflict arises. Karl Marx believed that society was constantly undergoing
change that was driven by conflict (Boundless,2016). Technology has been a consistent ongoing
conflict of change. There is always something new to be learned and gained. This causes some
groups of society to feel conflict and pressure when starting or continuing their education. This
group of society may lack the confidence needed to thrive in some online class

Research Paper On Online Classes
Online classes have boomed lately, but are they really worth all the work, or should we stick to
traditional classrooms? More and more people, especially these days have been enrolling in online
classes, due to the new technology being released. Online classes have been at lower quality because
of 3 reasons: how easy it is to cheat on them, the amount of money being put into them is
outrageous, and how small amount of control the professors have. Others might say, "I like online
classes because the class schedule is very flexible and I can work it into my schedule." While that is
true, online classes fail to give you is face–to–face communication." In Source B, the text states that,
"Online classes offer flexibility for sure. But if students never step foot on campus, often times they
will feel less invested in their education." If students feel less invested, they will tend to lose their
sense of perseverance, or their will to accomplish something. If they actually went into classrooms,
and set foot on the campus, they might get more invested in the school spirit, and find other ways to
make college more than just a learning experience.
These days especially, it's easy as ever to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

High School Students Vs Online Classes
A high school education is a right that all United States citizens have, but traditional high school is
not for everyone. Not all kids thrive in the traditional school room setting, and in fact may suffer to
the point that they are not able to participate and drop out. Social anxiety disorder can ruin a persons
ability to graduate from high school. An excelent option to traditional schooling are online courses.
Online courses are beneficial to students who have social anxiety because they allow the student to
work at their own pace and not feel the pressure of presenting and competing against other students.
Many students enjoy school and the interpersonal relationships they develop, but for a student with
social anxiety disorder, the idea of entering a classroom with a bunch of other kids can be a
nightmare. The increased anxiety and fear of being called on in class or made fun of can paralyze a
student. The opportunity to take online courses is the perfect solution for kids with social anxiety
disorder.
A student who has social anxiety disorder may participate in online courses in their home where
they don't have to worry about what their peers are thinking. Being in a more comfortable
enviorment allows the student to focus on the course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often kids with this disorder drop out of school because they feel so anxious and uncomfortable in
the classroom. Droping out of school eases the pain of being around other students but it keeps the
student from obtaining the education that he or she deserves. Often not having a high school
diploma makes it nearly impossible to get a job unless it is something cashiering or fast food
service. For a person with social anxiety, working diectly with the public is not an option. Droping
out of school can cause an increase in depression and possibly even suicide when the person feels
like they have no other

Persuasive Essay On Online Classes
Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible
schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took
three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose
scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for
procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me,
being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I'll just work on the weekends and if I don't finish the class
by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god
awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask
me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the
weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home
and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I'll just
complete what I didn't do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of
getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior
year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I
was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind out
these two semesters

Online Classes Are Becoming More And More Relevant Now
Online classes are now becoming more and more relevant now because of technology. They are
often viewed as an amazing way to get your credits done for high school and college, but in reality it
is not. The reason it's not a savior of education is because it makes the course easier for kids to cheat
on it. They also miss out on important social interaction growing up that could later help kids in life.
Everyone is not the same and have different learning and teaching styles that fit them best. Most
students have thought of at one time how to cheat on a test or homework. The sad part about it is
that most of us do find a way to take the easy path to get our homework done. If the course is online
the education board has made it that much easier for us to find the answers. If someone was to take
an online science class let 's say in biology and the teacher ask a question about how a frog
reproduces. The students has less worries about being caught from the teacher because most of the
questions are multiple choice and it's online someone else could take the test for them.
Unfortunately technology is a tool and can be used in negative and positive ways. If the student if
using the Internet for a quick fix he is not understand the material. Students need attentiveness from
the teacher to make learning not an option they can skip out on. Even if the online course was to
block out other tabs a student could use another computer and device to cheat. No one benefits from
this. As

The study found people of lower class were more egalitarian believing in equality, thus giving an

Online College Is Better Than Traditional Classes
There are lots of people who wants to go to college but can't because they have other
responsibilities. Some people fail to realize that college and high school is very different. For
example, the teacher is not going to pressure you to come to class. In college you are more
independent than you were in high school. Some people says online classes are hard other say they
are easy. There are those who likes to attend on campus to talk to the teacher afterwards. Others who
suggest online classes for less face–to–face interaction. Some have other things to tend too. For
example, someone might have to fix their car or just want a day off. In my opinion I would have
online classes are better than traditional classes.
I have seen people pay for classes and not come to come. Online classes are for someone who can't
make physically present on campus. There are some classes that you can't miss over 10 days and if
you do it's a possible of you failing. For example, A student might be the caretaker of a fifty–year–

yourself up for failure because you're not in a classroom. I disagree with that; Online classes is
required for you to read a little more and following the directions. Online courses allow students to
learn on their own. The student should be checking their assignments daily if they don't understand

Case Study: Student Communication in Online Classes
Cost and convenience entice increasing numbers of students to pursue their higher education goals
through online classes. One type of student is problematic for instructors as well as for peers who
depend on classmates to participate meaningfully on discussion boards and contribute fully to group
projects. The "read–only" student is one who participates minimally and appears to skim over
postings, contributing little substance (e.g., "I agree," or "Good point"). There is often the perception
by other students that the "read–only" student is not doing his/her fair share and is not a full member
of the online community. Nagel, Blegnaut and Cronje (2009) sought to investigate participation
levels in online courses and whether learning took place among "lurkers" –– students who did not
appear to be fully engaged in the course, as indicated by their minimal online presence. Research
shows that online participation is essential to successful course completion and that better cognitive
outcomes occur when students are engaged and are part of a collaborative learning community
(Nagel, Blignaut, and Cronje, 2009, p. 38). The authors' study followed participants of one web–
based course and attempted to correlate successful completion of the course with degree of
participation. As expected, the authors found the more successful students were the ones who spent
more time online reading course materials and reading and posting on the discussion board. Students

Clark and Feldon (2005) concluded that a facilitator who participates and interacts with students
prevents them from abandoning their course. Better cognitive outcomes occur when students engage
and form a virtual community of learners. The development of a community depends on online
interaction with their peers and the facilitator. Learner satisfaction, perseverance, and cognitive
outcomes characterize the formation of a virtual learning community. Some contest participation as
a prerequisite to learning, claiming students learn sufficiently by observation (Beaudoin, 2002;
Sutton, 2001), and lobby for leniency towards lurking or read–only participation. This article
responds to Beaudoin's (2002) article ''Learning or lurking? Tracking the 'invisible' online student.''
He reasoned that students sometimes engage and learn even when not taking part in online
discussions with faculty and other students and showed that low profile students: spend a significant
amount of time in learning–related tasks, including logging on, even when not visibly participating,
and they feel they are still learning and benefiting from this low–profile approach to their online

Persuasive Essay On Online Classes
Andrew Simoncelli once said, "Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent
learners." This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an
online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a
number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone's
look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather
than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience.
Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class! In
many schools, online classes are becoming more available to students. Recent studies show that the
use of online classes has been rapidly increasing over the past three years. Currently, there are a total
of 6,700,000 students enrolled in all different variations of courses
("Online Classes"). Due to the increase of young adults taking online courses, researchers have been
able to collect data to compare the grades of online learners to the grades of those learning in the
classroom. According to the article published by the University of the Potomac, 90% of students
will successfully reach higher achievements beyond what traditional in–class students will attain
("Online Classes"). Taking an online course can help a student accomplish anything they would like
to do that is education related, such as getting ahead in certain classes, finishing high school early, or
maybe even college. Another plus to taking courses online is being able to work at your own pace.
Researchers are finding that the slowest student takes five times as long to learn as the fastest
("Online Classes"). Lectures and other materials are electronically sent to the student, who will then
read them and complete assignments, which then allows them to do the homework when they would
like to and at the speed they learn things ("10 Advantages").
Most students find courses online better than in–class learning. Now even some schools are saying
yes to online learning! It is a big money saver because the school or college will not have to employ

The Primary Difference Between Classroom And Online Classes
The primary difference between classroom and online classes is attending class in the classroom
with a pre–set schedule. It is a lot easier to attend class online with a busy schedule. You can log on
anytime you are available and watch videos, work on homework or discussions. If you had to attend
classes, you would have to watch a live lecture in the classroom at a set time. That is the thing I love
about Bethel is that I can do it when I have time.
During my research, I noticed that the article talked about not having interaction with other students
being a problem with online learning because you are not getting direct contact with instructors and
classmates. Bethel has come up with a way to compromise that problem. I've learned that Bethel
uses the discussion post and respond for the students to interact with one another. It may not be face
to face or immediate feedback but it is a way for students to interact with each other.
There are a few more differences between online learning and classroom setting. With online
learning you have less tuition, a plus which is no commute to school and fewer fees. You do not
have to purchase all those textbooks with Bethel, they have a huge online library where you as a
student have access to all of the online books. (May, R.)
Although the online schools and traditional settings have some differences, there main goal is the
same. To provide students with an educational experience that enables them to grow in their chosen

Do Students Lose More Than They Gain On Online Writing...
Response Essay
Do students lose more than they gain in online writing classes? A lot of questions need to be
answered about how effective is education online. I personally believe that online writing classes
provide individuals with a position to educate themselves amongst their everyday means. Over
obstacle that many of these students may have, a gateway to their dreams of a higher education
comes from opportunities. These opportunities may at time fall short, come with difficulties, time
challenge but nevertheless be rewarding at the end.
Most of these students who take advantage of online writing class seek help in furthering their
education. Online writing classes have to be one of the most important class requirements. The
education that is obtained provides a creative way of understanding language context, peer–to–peer
interaction and managing time constraints. Strategies of teaching writing online provide some clear
obstacles for educators, but many of these obstacles are based on software approaches to support
course material. Review a video on TED open my eyes to the future of online education and where it

loosely on Mary Frith, who was frequenting taverns and playhouses in men's clothing in London
and had to appear in front of the court. Moll is the name of half the prostitutes in London and in
their play; we meet Moll Cutpurse, the Roaring Girl. Dekker and Middleton use the unusual girl to
criticize the London society. Moll goes between classes to evaluate the people in London as is
shown when she talks to Sir Thomas and Lord Noland, stating
When next, my lord, you spy any of one of those,
So he be in his art a scholar, question him,
Tempt him with gold to open the large book
Of his close villainies; and you yourself shall cant

On the other hand, the writers might show their audience that in order to grow into an expert a thief
was not that different from a university–schooled person; both had to spend a long time to learn their
"art", the art of thievery and the art of literary work. Moll conveys that to be good at stealing, the
person had to spend a long time of practicing, as well, just as the scholar who spend a lot of time
reading and studying his books. Therefore, a thief is not that different from a person of the upper
class, even though the latter probably looks down upon the rogues.
Moll continues with that comparison when she says that thieves have to study in a book as well,
when the literary rate was probably not that high in the lower class. Yet she says to "open the large
book / of his close villainies" (5.1.306), as if there was a large book similar to a textbook which
would contain all the secrets of stealing. The secrets are held close to oneself, so a personal
relationship is implied as well. "Close" might also mean that when people are pertaining in villainies
acts, the way back into respectable society is closed to them. This does not mean only the people
whose occupation it is to steal, because together with the scholarly comparison Moll includes upper
class and "learned" people as well. In addition, people might be closed–minded and see the thieves
only as scum of the city, when in reality there

Hard Times Essay
Literary works often portray or allude to the society in which they are written. Characters take upon
social statuses, and whose positions and characterizations are determined by those statuses. Social
statuses, in any context, are hard to change. It is the American Dream to move from a lower class to
the upper class, and the American Dream is hard to obtain, although easy to wish for. These social
classes provide easy identification of characters, but also prove to be barriers within the society. The
construct of social classes in Hard Times by Charles Dickens provides context for the inability to
easily change classes within a structured society. Each character provides detail into the description
of their social classes, and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these studies, the "hands" were still just "hands." They were able to master things that were
common of the middle class, but yet had rose no more than the laborers they were despite these
teachings. Where they were born, and from what tier of society they were from mattered more than
their learning. The look of their houses, which were "stunted and crooked shapes" gave way to the
"kind of people who might be expected to be born in [them]" (Dickens 70). There is a reason why
the general population of Coketown were considered "Hands," "they were a part of the anatomy that
has the facility for work," (Sutherland, Para. 26) but they were not able to move from one place to
the next in society. It was as if they should have been made by God to have "only hands, or like the
lower creatures of the seashore, only hands and stomachs" (Dickens 70). The "Hands" are described
often as kind, gentle, and caring. They are friendly to each other. Rachael, who had saved the life of
the woman standing in her way of marrying her beloved, and Stephen, who stays true to his drunken
wife are examples of the "perfect integrity" (Dickens 71) that is common in the lower class.
Bounderby, "whose name represents his approach to life; he uses others for personal gain" (Bracket,
Para. 3) is contrasted with the loving approach of the "Hands." Bounderby had

Online Classes Analysis
This is my first time taking online classes, also the first time I have been back to school in six years.
When I was in high school I did have the option to take online classes, but declined to do so. I
enjoyed being in a classroom with my teachers and peers. I didn't have the responsibilities that I
have today. Now that I am older and have my own family, so I am typically busy all the time. Even
though I am only in the second week of my online classes, I have found that I enjoy them much
more than sitting in a classroom. The classes are convenient for me to take mostly because I can go
at my own pace. I get to spend more time on topics that I have a hard time comprehending, rather
than topics I already know about. I am always on the go, it's ... Show more content on

Having a degree is in demand with today's employers, this causes more and more people each year
to go back to school. Better paying jobs require degrees, it's as simple as that. In this modern day
everyone is typically on the go, these easily accessible classes go anywhere you do. All you need is
a computer and the internet. Even from my smartphone I can participate in the discussion forums or
even turn in assignments. This is something I didn't even know was possible. If you find yourself
having difficulties on a subject, you don't have to meet with a tutor face to face. You can do it all
from your computer or smartphone anywhere you are. New technology is being developed
everyday, and after doing some research I have found something interesting. Some teachers are
starting to use artificial intelligence such as a "virtual teaching assistant". Students have said that
they did not know they were even talking with a computer. Along with that the process of making
artificial intelligence learning companions is said to be promising in the future
(https://thenextweb.com/artificial–intelligence/2017/03/13/how–artificial–intelligence–enhances–

Social Class In The Media
In today's society, there are few among the poor who speak of themselves as lower class; instead,
they refer to their race, ethnic group, occupation or geographic location (Mantsios 177)–however,
the concept of class (also known as social class and socioeconomic class) rarely cross their mind.
The social class hierarchy is always present in our society, but due to how the media has shaped how
we view our world–social class has been made practically invisible. Media has evolved so much
through the years, and with that, so has our views on the different tiers of the socioeconomic
groupings. Although class is a taboo subject in the United States and many individuals lack the
sense of class–consciousness, the media today evaluates and divides socioeconomic ... Show more

In contrast, it is unfortunate that it is upper–class corporations that control and oversee what is being
exhibited and exposed in today's media. On television, we see shows such as Real Housewives
(From Wherever), The Bachelor, The Rich Kids of Beverly Hills, and My Sweet 16; these shows
revolve around the wealthy (and often racially white) and their outrageous spending habits and
lifestyles. Television today is riddled with the sensationalism of striving to be wealthy, which has
also carried into print media with sought after issues of magazines aggrandizing designer gowns and
accessories that the average American could never afford (Newman Study Site). On the other end of
the socioeconomic scope, we see shows such as Jerry Springer and Judge Judy, mocking individuals
of the lower class and their tawdry struggles of "who's my baby's daddy," cheating scandals, and
teenage children out of control. Then, if we observes show like Fresh Off the Boat and Black–ish
where we can see the sensationalism and discrimination of stereotypes based on race and ethnic
upbringings. Worst of all, is the local and national news programs. Whether the news is from
television, printed newspaper, or read online, the viewpoints are greatly skewed and presented to its
viewers with biased opinion (Newman Study Site).. For example, take what is going on in our
society today between those of the black race and their local law enforcement–the news depicts the
members of these black communities as troubled individuals and thugs, but does not show the larger
group of peaceful protesters. Sadly, our media revolves around the sensationalism and
discrimination of information, race, gender, and social class and creates the involuntary bias to mock
the poor and envy the

The basis of the standard hierarchy is challenged by the rise of social media and therefore directly
correlates with the influence of celebrities and people with a name brand. Most social scientists
agree that society is stratified into a hierarchical arrangement of social classes. Social classes are
groupings of individuals in a hierarchy, usually based on wealth, educational attainment, occupation,
income, and membership in a subculture or social network. Social class in the United States is a
controversial topic; there have been many competing definitions, models, and even disagreements
over its very existence. Many Americans believe in a simple three–class model that includes the rich

Traditional And Online College Classes
Traditional or Online College Classes?
Today, there are more options than ever for obtaining a college education. Traditional and online
college classes make this possible. Online courses create new educational possibilities for many
people who have not considered college before. Traditional classes help the student to achieve their
goal with more of a personal setting between the students and instructors. Both online and
traditional colleges have the same goals in mind: to provide students with an education and to award
degrees.
The main difference between online and traditional modules is online classes are internet based, thus
students are not required to attend lectures in a physical classroom. Communication with online
classmates is usually through e–mail correspondence, phone conversations, or live chat as students
do not typically meet face to face. In contrast, traditional college courses require students' physical
presence as they listen and take notes during an instructor's lecture. This allows classmates to
communicate in person or to study in groups. The student receives all of the information needed for
the course in both forms of classes.
Exchanging information with instructors is also very different in online and traditional classes.
Online instructors must present information as clearly and concisely as possible. They also have to
provide more detailed feedback than traditional college instructors. Instructors in traditional
classrooms have the benefit of

Graduation Speech : College Taking Online Classes
Introduction I am currently enrolled in college taking online classes. I've been taking online classes
for more years than I care to remember. In the past I'd take a class or two here, and a semester break
or two there. One of those breaks spanned nearly five years! It wasn't until I was laid off from my
job and forced to seek employment for the first time in nearly thirty–six years, that it became clear
to me that most employers won't seriously consider your application if you don't have a college
degree. While I had considerable experience in all of the fields I applied for, I lacked the educational
requirements listed in the employment announcement. Now four classes away from achieving my
goal I look back to considered all the hard work and sacrifice that has gone into my getting this far
and I ask, "Could anything deter me from completing my mission and reaching my goal?" This
paper will consider a similar situation and ask the question, "When faced with a problem, what do
you do to solve it? To answer this question I will attempt to apply a six–step problem solving
process to this specific problem. I will write a paper that presents a combination of my ideas about
solving this problem using this systematic approach. Scenario #1: You have worked at your
company for eleven (11) years. You have returned to college to earn a Bachelor's degree in order to
increase your chances for a promotion. You are nearly finished with your degree, when a

Online Classes Are Rapidly Becoming A More Popular And...
Online classes are rapidly becoming a more popular and accepted option among many students. An
online course is a course where all or most course material is delivered online and there is little to no
face–to–face contact with the instructor or other students in the class. Although online classes have
been around for quite a long while, they have only recently become more popular among students.
According to one article on the topic of online education, "6.7 million students enrolled in at least
one online course in fall 2011–an increase of more than 500,000 students compared to 2010" (Bird).
Another article says that in 2014, "an additional 411,000 students enrolled in their first online course
increasing the total number of online students in the U.S. to 7.1 million," a 6.1 percent increase from
the number of students enrolled in the year of 2012 (Vista College). This article also states that "one
out of every three higher education students has at least one online course; an all–time high" (Vista
College). This recent increase in the popularity of online classes may have been caused because of
advances in and increased use of technology, the accessibility and convenience of online classes and
the flexibility they provide, and because online classes allow the student to work at his/her own
pace. Recent advancements in technology bolster the growing popularity of online courses among
students. Because of technological advancements and innovations, online classes are

Abstract
Online courses in high school are causing much debate. Although many people are bucking the
trend, those who have willingly taken online courses have found there are many benefits. However,
with the integration of any new technology brings new concerns that need addressing. Although
online courses may not be for everyone, they offer numerous perks that are typically limited with
conventional schools.

An effective teacher can be a mentor, inspire the least motivated student to learn and spark creativity
that a computer may not be able to do. Think back to biology class and dissecting frogs or other
organisms. Nothing can compare to the teacher who can inspire students to seek a higher education
to impact society in the fields of medicine through a hands on course. Although there are software
programs that offer virtual medicine and allow people to perform surgeries through the computer,
most technology such as these are very costly and defeat the purpose of offering classes at a lower
cost. A key benefit of virtual learning is the potential to reduce the gaps in achievement that are
created within the rural, urban and suburban students. Often, the best teachers tend to gravitate to
the schools with the bigger budgets and greater opportunities. Since many urban and rural schools
have difficulty offering the same academic options or as high of quality instruction as suburban
schools, virtual classes could potentially reduce the gap that is created just through geography.
Online learning can allow access to excellent teachers and academic offerings instead of tying it
simply to where a student resides which often puts certain students at a disadvantage. The overriding
factor that stands out in online education is the cost savings. According to the

1. Online classes are making it easier for people to go to college. If it was not for online classes

Vincent and Clayton and live in Adams. Living on campus would not be an option for me and
commuting would be a nightmare. I do not think that students who receive their degree online

programs require students to take all of the same classes whether they are taken face–to–face or

If students get caught they should have to face the consequences whether it is in a class online or a
face–to–face. Professors should take the necessary measures to keep students from cheating. These
measures should include running papers through turn it in, changing test questions each semester
and personalizing questions as much as possible so questions cannot be found online. Cheating is a
serious problem, but it hurts the student in the end. Although students know that cheating is against
school policy and professors are trying their best to make it difficult to cheat, students are still going
to find ways to do it. Professors should not have to focus all of their attention on catching cheating.
They need to focus most of their time and attention on the students who want to learn and to well in
their class. Students who choose to use these sites instead of doing the work themselves are not
going to do well in their future job. When entering into a job after graduating college you are
expected to remember the information you were taught in college. An employer will be able to
determine quickly if you know what you are supposed to know or not. If you are not able to

Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning
Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning
When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more
important choices is where you plan to take your classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly
popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that
nothing beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing
an education more appealing to people that have to balance many other responsibilities like family,
jobs, etc. Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same
advantages. They both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of
curriculum between the two. Both demand the same time investment for learning, studying, taking
exams, completing papers, and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your
school work online there isn't any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a
common misconception. Online classes, like traditional ones, require a degree of contact with your
peers and professors. It may not be as personal interaction as raising your hand and being called on,
but you can e–mail your professor at any time and there are discussion boards and forums available
for fellow students to communicate and help each other out. One of the most significant differences
between taking online classes and having the traditional

Many more people would enjoy school if it was convenient to their time. A great solution to this

materials like text books. For traditional class students the assignments are "homework", but online

Online Classes Vs. Traditional Classes Essay
Technology is changing every aspect in our lives, even the way we learn. Online classes are a
rapidly growing trend it today's society. Online classes are a cost–effective substitute for traditional
courses and more convenient for many, so more schools and universities are offering this option.
Due to the increase in online course enrollment, people are questioning if students truly learn
something from online classes because it's not a traditional learning environment. Online classes are
just, if not more, effective as traditional classes because grades have increased and online
discussions provide students with the chance to interact through networking while earning a degree
for less than what it would cost to enroll at the same university. Technology is evolving and now
offers people opportunities that weren 't possible before. One new opportunity that technology has to
offer is online classes. Online courses are courses that are offered strictly over the internet. With
online classes, assignments and lectures are communicated through an online website. Face to face
(f2f) classes, also called, traditional classes are classes that take place in a classroom with a teacher
interacting with his students. Dr. Steven Stack, a science research author and professor, states that
the number of students enrolled in at least one online course increased from 1,602,970 in 2002 to
6,714,792 in 2011. With an increasing number of students enrolling in online courses, more colleges

opportunity, I would have had to drop one of the classes that helped me be competitive for a UC.

at the time I desire. Not only does this give me flexibility to take more classes in school, I also gain

Argumentative Essay: Traditional College Students Versus...
College students may be torn between not knowing whether they should forward their education on
a traditional college campus or the alternative, online classes. There are several more reasons why
students should chose to go to a traditional college campus. In order for college students to receive
the best education that they possibly can, traditional face–to–face schooling is a much better choice
than online schooling.
With face–to–face schooling, students get the full college experience from meeting new people,

Online schooling can be very convenient for students that have a job or family that is their number
one commitment. Students can log into their course whenever the time is best for them instead of
having a set time for a class every week (Bird). Some students find online education appealing since
students can learn at their own pace. According to a study done by Potomac University, "77% of
educators believe that online learning is just as good as traditional leaning, if not better" ("Online").
Online learning is also inexpensive. Online classes are much more inexpensive than traditional
classes. Online degrees can cost up to 80 times less than traditional degrees. Traditional degrees
average cost is around $85,000, while online degrees average cost is around $30,000 ("Online").
Online education does offer lots of options for students. In order for college students to receive the
best education that they possibly can, traditional face–to–face schooling is a better choice than
online schooling. College students deserve to receive the best possible education for them, and
traditional face–to–face schooling will allow them to get just that. There is no reason that they
should be bereft of a quality education. Traditional face–to–face schooling is proven to be more

During these recent years web– based learning has gained so much popularity that, online courses enrolments continue to climb, but retention and completion rates in such courses and programs are lower than traditional classroom schooling. Lareau's work has shaped an approach to collaborate with all social class families and helped shape three specific strategies to promote equal access to school success for both the children and families in different social–class standings. The conflict theory among the educational system has been considered to favor wealthy groups of society due to the amount of tuition needed. However, while it is still difficult for some groups of society to receive financing for college, attending college has become more accessible. The conflict for online students is the ability to be familiar and comfortable with technology. An issue that can occur is computer illiteracy. It is common to sit in a traditional classroom and see people of all ages. The issue in online classrooms is that people from older generations may not be as familiar with navigating websites and utilizing everything the web has to offer. Some students find it difficult to interact through discussion boards, email, etc. When an individual does not have much knowledge about technology the conflict arises. Karl Marx believed that society was constantly undergoing change that was driven by conflict (Boundless,2016). Technology has been a consistent ongoing conflict of change. • 11. Research Paper On Online Classes Online classes have boomed lately, but are they really worth all the work, or should we stick to traditional classrooms? More and more people, especially these days have been enrolling in online classes, due to the new technology being released. Online classes have been at lower quality because of 3 reasons: how easy it is to cheat on them, the amount of money being put into them is outrageous, and how small amount of control the professors have. Others might say, "I like online classes because the class schedule is very flexible and I can work it into my schedule." While that is true, online classes fail to give you is face–to–face communication." In Source B, the text states that, "Online classes offer flexibility for sure. But if students never step foot on campus, often times they will feel less invested in their education." If students feel less invested, they will tend to lose their sense of perseverance, or their will to accomplish something. If they actually went into classrooms, and set foot on the campus, they might get more invested in the school spirit, and find other ways to make college more than just a learning experience. • 13. High School Students Vs Online Classes A high school education is a right that all United States citizens have, but traditional high school is not for everyone. Not all kids thrive in the traditional school room setting, and in fact may suffer to the point that they are not able to participate and drop out. Social anxiety disorder can ruin a persons ability to graduate from high school. An excelent option to traditional schooling are online courses. Online courses are beneficial to students who have social anxiety because they allow the student to work at their own pace and not feel the pressure of presenting and competing against other students. Many students enjoy school and the interpersonal relationships they develop, but for a student with social anxiety disorder, the idea of entering a classroom with a bunch of other kids can be a nightmare. The increased anxiety and fear of being called on in class or made fun of can paralyze a student. The opportunity to take online courses is the perfect solution for kids with social anxiety disorder. • 15. Persuasive Essay On Online Classes Most people think highly of online classes; get to work from home, get to work on a flexible schedule, and anyone can do it. Though no one has heard the cons of taking one. I personally took three semesters of online classes in high school and had a horrible experience. Because of loose scheduling, poor communication, and the focus needed, online classes are not suitable for procrastinators. To give a better understanding, I will summarize my experience with the class. Me, being a procrastinator, thought to myself: I'll just work on the weekends and if I don't finish the class by the end of the school year, I can finish within the first few weeks of summer. This was a god awful plan. Unsurprisingly, close to nothing was accomplished on the weekends. Friends would ask me to hang out every weekend, and I did every time. Why would I want to work on my class on the weekend when I could be having fun? I would later regret this decision. On the days I stayed home and could have worked on the class, I completed nothing. On these days, I would tell myself: I'll just complete what I didn't do this weekend next weekend. This rarely happened. Thus, the cycle of getting nothing accomplished started. I disregarded my class for most of the first semester of junior year. With only nine assignments out of eighty finished after the first semester of the school year, I was immensely behind. I told myself to get my act together during second semester and grind out these two semesters ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Online Classes Are Becoming More And More Relevant Now Online classes are now becoming more and more relevant now because of technology. They are often viewed as an amazing way to get your credits done for high school and college, but in reality it is not. The reason it's not a savior of education is because it makes the course easier for kids to cheat on it. They also miss out on important social interaction growing up that could later help kids in life. Everyone is not the same and have different learning and teaching styles that fit them best. Most students have thought of at one time how to cheat on a test or homework. The sad part about it is that most of us do find a way to take the easy path to get our homework done. If the course is online the education board has made it that much easier for us to find the answers. If someone was to take an online science class let 's say in biology and the teacher ask a question about how a frog reproduces. The students has less worries about being caught from the teacher because most of the questions are multiple choice and it's online someone else could take the test for them. Unfortunately technology is a tool and can be used in negative and positive ways. If the student if using the Internet for a quick fix he is not understand the material. Students need attentiveness from the teacher to make learning not an option they can skip out on. Even if the online course was to block out other tabs a student could use another computer and device to cheat. No one benefits from this. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Online College Is Better Than Traditional Classes There are lots of people who wants to go to college but can't because they have other responsibilities. Some people fail to realize that college and high school is very different. For example, the teacher is not going to pressure you to come to class. In college you are more independent than you were in high school. Some people says online classes are hard other say they are easy. There are those who likes to attend on campus to talk to the teacher afterwards. Others who suggest online classes for less face–to–face interaction. Some have other things to tend too. For example, someone might have to fix their car or just want a day off. In my opinion I would have online classes are better than traditional classes. I have seen people pay for classes and not come to come. Online classes are for someone who can't make physically present on campus. There are some classes that you can't miss over 10 days and if you do it's a possible of you failing. For example, A student might be the caretaker of a fifty–year– old who can't walk. • 27. Case Study: Student Communication in Online Classes Cost and convenience entice increasing numbers of students to pursue their higher education goals through online classes. One type of student is problematic for instructors as well as for peers who depend on classmates to participate meaningfully on discussion boards and contribute fully to group projects. The "read–only" student is one who participates minimally and appears to skim over postings, contributing little substance (e.g., "I agree," or "Good point"). There is often the perception by other students that the "read–only" student is not doing his/her fair share and is not a full member of the online community. Nagel, Blegnaut and Cronje (2009) sought to investigate participation levels in online courses and whether learning took place among "lurkers" –– students who did not appear to be fully engaged in the course, as indicated by their minimal online presence. Research shows that online participation is essential to successful course completion and that better cognitive outcomes occur when students are engaged and are part of a collaborative learning community (Nagel, Blignaut, and Cronje, 2009, p. 38). The authors' study followed participants of one web– based course and attempted to correlate successful completion of the course with degree of participation. As expected, the authors found the more successful students were the ones who spent more time online reading course materials and reading and posting on the discussion board. Clark and Feldon (2005) concluded that a facilitator who participates and interacts with students prevents them from abandoning their course. Better cognitive outcomes occur when students engage and form a virtual community of learners. The development of a community depends on online interaction with their peers and the facilitator. Learner satisfaction, perseverance, and cognitive outcomes characterize the formation of a virtual learning community. Some contest participation as a prerequisite to learning, claiming students learn sufficiently by observation (Beaudoin, 2002; Sutton, 2001), and lobby for leniency towards lurking or read–only participation. This article responds to Beaudoin's (2002) article ''Learning or lurking? Tracking the 'invisible' online student.'' He reasoned that students sometimes engage and learn even when not taking part in online discussions with faculty and other students and showed that low profile students: spend a significant amount of time in learning–related tasks, including logging on, even when not visibly participating, and they feel they are still learning and benefiting from this low–profile approach to their online studies. • 35. Persuasive Essay On Online Classes Andrew Simoncelli once said, "Students who take online classes must be motivated, independent learners." This is relevant because independence and motivation is what it takes to succeed in an online course. Online learning will not only expand what students learn, but will also bring a number of positive changes in the way students are taught. Courses online have changed everyone's look at learning all over the world. It allows more opportunities for observers to learn online rather than learning in class. Another affirmative of taking an online course is flexibility and convenience. Students who would like to experience some of these ideas should look into an online class! In many schools, online classes are becoming more available to students. Recent studies show that the use of online classes has been rapidly increasing over the past three years. Currently, there are a total of 6,700,000 students enrolled in all different variations of courses ("Online Classes"). Due to the increase of young adults taking online courses, researchers have been able to collect data to compare the grades of online learners to the grades of those learning in the classroom. According to the article published by the University of the Potomac, 90% of students will successfully reach higher achievements beyond what traditional in–class students will attain ("Online Classes"). Taking an online course can help a student accomplish anything they would like to do that is education related, such as getting ahead in certain classes, finishing high school early, or maybe even college. Another plus to taking courses online is being able to work at your own pace. Researchers are finding that the slowest student takes five times as long to learn as the fastest ("Online Classes"). Lectures and other materials are electronically sent to the student, who will then read them and complete assignments, which then allows them to do the homework when they would like to and at the speed they learn things ("10 Advantages"). Most students find courses online better than in–class learning. Now even some schools are saying yes to online learning! It is a lot easier to attend class online with a busy schedule. You can log on anytime you are available and watch videos, work on homework or discussions. If you had to attend classes, you would have to watch a live lecture in the classroom at a set time. That is the thing I love about Bethel is that I can do it when I have time. During my research, I noticed that the article talked about not having interaction with other students being a problem with online learning because you are not getting direct contact with instructors and classmates. Bethel has come up with a way to compromise that problem. I've learned that Bethel uses the discussion post and respond for the students to interact with one another. It may not be face to face or immediate feedback but it is a way for students to interact with each other. There are a few more differences between online learning and classroom setting. With online learning you have less tuition, a plus which is no commute to school and fewer fees. You do not have to purchase all those textbooks with Bethel, they have a huge online library where you as a student have access to all of the online books. (May, R.) I personally believe that online writing classes provide individuals with a position to educate themselves amongst their everyday means. Over obstacle that many of these students may have, a gateway to their dreams of a higher education comes from opportunities. These opportunities may at time fall short, come with difficulties, time challenge but nevertheless be rewarding at the end. Most of these students who take advantage of online writing class seek help in furthering their education. Online writing classes have to be one of the most important class requirements. Strategies of teaching writing online provide some clear obstacles for educators, but many of these obstacles are based on software approaches to support course material. Class and Politics in Renaissance London When Thomas Middleton and Thomas Dekker wrote their Roaring Girl in 1611, they based it loosely on Mary Frith, who was frequenting taverns and playhouses in men's clothing in London and had to appear in front of the court. Moll is the name of half the prostitutes in London and in their play; we meet Moll Cutpurse, the Roaring Girl. Dekker and Middleton use the unusual girl to criticize the London society. Moll goes between classes to evaluate the people in London as is shown when she talks to Sir Thomas and Lord Noland, stating When next, my lord, you spy any of one of those, So he be in his art a scholar, question him, Tempt him with gold to open the large book Of his close villainies; and you yourself shall cant Better than poor ... On the other hand, the writers might show their audience that in order to grow into an expert a thief was not that different from a university–schooled person; both had to spend a long time to learn their "art", the art of thievery and the art of literary work. Moll conveys that to be good at stealing, the person had to spend a long time of practicing, as well, just as the scholar who spend a lot of time reading and studying his books. Therefore, a thief is not that different from a person of the upper class, even though the latter probably looks down upon the rogues. Moll continues with that comparison when she says that thieves have to study in a book as well, when the literary rate was probably not that high in the lower class. Yet she says to "open the large book / of his close villainies" (5.1.306), as if there was a large book similar to a textbook which would contain all the secrets of stealing. The secrets are held close to oneself, so a personal relationship is implied as well. "Close" might also mean that when people are pertaining in villainies acts, the way back into respectable society is closed to them. This does not mean only the people whose occupation it is to steal, because together with the scholarly comparison Moll includes upper class and "learned" people as well. Characters take upon social statuses, and whose positions and characterizations are determined by those statuses. Social statuses, in any context, are hard to change. It is the American Dream to move from a lower class to the upper class, and the American Dream is hard to obtain, although easy to wish for. These social classes provide easy identification of characters, but also prove to be barriers within the society. The look of their houses, which were "stunted and crooked shapes" gave way to the "kind of people who might be expected to be born in [them]" (Dickens 70). There is a reason why the general population of Coketown were considered "Hands," "they were a part of the anatomy that has the facility for work," (Sutherland, Para. 26) but they were not able to move from one place to the next in society. It was as if they should have been made by God to have "only hands, or like the lower creatures of the seashore, only hands and stomachs" (Dickens 70). The "Hands" are described often as kind, gentle, and caring. They are friendly to each other. Rachael, who had saved the life of the woman standing in her way of marrying her beloved, and Stephen, who stays true to his drunken wife are examples of the "perfect integrity" (Dickens 71) that is common in the lower class. Traditional and online college classes make this possible. Online courses create new educational possibilities for many people who have not considered college before. Traditional classes help the student to achieve their goal with more of a personal setting between the students and instructors. Both online and traditional colleges have the same goals in mind: to provide students with an education and to award degrees. The main difference between online and traditional modules is online classes are internet based, thus students are not required to attend lectures in a physical classroom. Communication with online classmates is usually through e–mail correspondence, phone conversations, or live chat as students do not typically meet face to face. In contrast, traditional college courses require students' physical presence as they listen and take notes during an instructor's lecture. This allows classmates to communicate in person or to study in groups. The student receives all of the information needed for the course in both forms of classes. Exchanging information with instructors is also very different in online and traditional classes. Online instructors must present information as clearly and concisely as possible. They also have to provide more detailed feedback than traditional college instructors. Instructors in traditional classrooms have the benefit of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An online course is a course where all or most course material is delivered online and there is little to no face–to–face contact with the instructor or other students in the class. Although online classes have been around for quite a long while, they have only recently become more popular among students. According to one article on the topic of online education, "6.7 million students enrolled in at least one online course in fall 2011–an increase of more than 500,000 students compared to 2010" (Bird). • 63. Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning Online Classes vs. Traditional Classroom Learning When deciding to take college courses there are many choices you have to make. One of the more important choices is where you plan to take your classes. Online classes are becoming increasingly popular because they can be easier to fit into a busy schedule, but some people still argue that nothing beats a traditional classroom setting. Having the option of online classes makes continuing an education more appealing to people that have to balance many other responsibilities like family, jobs, etc. Online classes and the traditional classroom setting both offer many of the same advantages. They both provide the student with the same course content so there is no loss of curriculum between the two. Both demand the same time investment for learning, studying, taking exams, completing papers, and so on. Although it seems easy to think that with doing all of your school work online there isn't any personal interaction with professors and peers, however, that is a common misconception. Online classes, like traditional ones, require a degree of contact with your peers and professors.
