2. A program of Subsoil Investigation was undertaken to determine subsoil
conditions for Tower “H” at Creek View & Terraces, Phase VIII, DHA, Karachi.
Consolidated Engineering Services (Pvt) Ltd, Karachi carried out the program of
the soil investigation.
LIST OF TESTS PERFORMED:
1. Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
2. Grain Size Analysis
3. Atterberg Limits
4. Unconfined compression and Point Load Test
5. Direct Shear Test and Specific Gravity
REPORT REFERENCE:
3. STANDARD PENETRATION TEST:
A total of 4 boreholes were drilled up to 50 m depth. Rotary drilling method was used to advance the
borehole to the required depth. SPT was performed at 1.5 m interval by using Donut hammer.

5. GRAIN SIZE ANALYSIS:
This test is performed to determine the percentage of different grain sizes contained within a soil. Sieve
analysis is performed to determine the distribution of the coarser, larger-sized particles, and the
hydrometer method is used to determine the distribution of the finer particles.

6. ATTERBERG LIMITS:
Atterberg limits is a basic measure of the critical water content of fine-grained soils. These tests include
shrinkage limit, plastic limit, and liquid limit. Depending on the water content of a soil, it may appear in
four states: solid, semi-solid, plastic and liquid.

7. UNCONFINED COMPRESSION & POINT LOAD TEST:
The primary purpose of the Unconfined Compression Test is to quickly determine a measure of the
unconfined compressive strength of rocks or fine-grained soils that possess sufficient cohesion to
permit testing in the unconfined state.

9. DIRECT SHEAR TEST & SPECIFIC GRAVITY:
A direct shear test is a laboratory or field test used to measure the shear strength properties of soil
such as cohesion and Angle of internal friction.
