What Is The Mood Of The Hot Zone
Our time is up far exceeded my expectations. It was funny and heartwarming all in a short amount of time. Exposition. Shots of routine everyday
events are what first introduce us to the main character. Shots of his alarm clock going off at 7 am. How he gently turns off the alarm and goes to
his closet of perfectly spaced identical shirts. His ties and shoes are perfectly organized. At 7:15 exactly he brews his coffee. When he goes to get
the paper, the gardener tells him, "Morning Dr. Stern, I added some new plants". With which he responds "Yeah" without turning around. He
essentially ignored him because it is not part of his routine. While drinking his coffee, a shot of him reading National Psychologist helps us conclude
that he is a doctor of psychology. Everything in his house is perfectly arranged, even his morning paper is perfectly parallel with his placemat.
Everything about the exposition introduces him as a man very set in his ways and who does not like to stray from routine or organization. The
inciting incident occurs when a newly licensed Dr. Gardenschwartz calls him to get some advice and to ask how Dr. Stern handles his own doctor
patient relationships. This first introduces the plot because Dr. Stern answers him saying, "All in due time" and hangs up on the other practitioner. This
simultaneously implies that Dr. Stern is somewhat rude, and secondly, follows his life and practice with the idea that everything will work itself out
"All in due time". This

A Modern Fable: “The Catbird Seat” by James Thurber Essay
This short story entitled "The Catbird Seat" is a modern fable. The definition of a fable is a simple story with animal characters in which the big
strong animal is bested, overcome by, or made a fool of by the weaker character. A modern fable is a fable that takes place in modern times. This
short story by James Thurber takes place in New York City around the 1940s. Many fables written before are very much alike "The Catbird Seat"
when it comes to being a fable. For example, in "The Tortoise and the Hare" the cocky, arrogant rabbit keeps on boasting about how speedy he is to the
scrawny, sluggish turtle. In the end, the turtle overcomes the pompous rabbit in a race because the rabbit underestimated the turtle. Also, in "Henny
Penny",... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The "old quack" would always be boasting about her ducky first–floor apartment in the darling three–story brick building to her co–workers. Mr.
Fitweiler, the boss, hired "Ugline" not because of her fantastic skills in the subject but to return the favor of how she helped him. Mr. Fitweiler,
resembling a Rottweiler, was confronted by a drunken man mistaking him for a Midwestern football coach. The mammoth and masculine Ms.
Barrows protected him from the drunken man. This incident makes Ms. Barrows appear even more oppressive and burly. Mr. Fitweiler makes up
the post of Special Advisor and hires Ms. Barrows as the newly appointed Special Advisor to return the favor to her. She started infiltrating many
departments in the company and firing many workers. Even more employees quit because they couldn't stand her. This strapping woman is the
bigger, stronger, and aggravating character in this modern fable. Mr. Martin is the oppressed and weaker Henny Penny in this fable. Mr. Martin has
been working for the company of F. & S. for twenty two years as head of the filing department always filing everything in enormous filing cabinets.
Many know him as the man who neither smokes nor drinks. Mr. Fitweiler and the late Sam Schlosser, the F. and S. of F. & S., praised Mr.

The Adventures of Polaris
Polaris was a 14 year old pale skinned boy with short brown hair, and brown eyes who lived on an undiscovered island with his tribe. "Mom" I whined.
"When will I be able to become a fierce hunter like dad?" "You will get it when you're ready." Mom told me. She was always saying that. "But mom," I
started "No! You will earn it, not whine like a baby! Now help me put these skins away." She said, angry as the wolf dad killed yesterday. I let out an
angry sigh as I walked out of the house. "You better get back here Polaris, or punishment will be severe," mom snarled. I walked back to the house and
silently put the fresh skins away. I then walked outside to find my friends. "Hey." I heard from behind me. "Hey, Fang." I replied. "Wanna come steal
some skins with me? My mom says it's ok if I don't get caught." "Yeah, sure Fang. If I get caught and you get away, I will feed you to my dog." I said
playfully. "Ha–ha very funny." He let out a sigh. "Well, we should get goin. I heard the Smerick family is away and since I'm housekeeper 'till they
get back..." Fang zoned out. "I guess I can get their rare lion pelts that they got from their relatives in America. After that, the police killed the family
for illegal transporting. Pretty brutal, right? At least they don't know about our island, like come on! It's bigger than Victoria! Well, I think. I've only
seen it on maps." Fang said as I laughed at him. We walked over to the Smerick family's house. They lived in the near

The Tale Of Fairy Tales
1. What is the genre of this story? Are there any other possible genres this story could fall into?
This story is a Fairy–tale. Fairy–tales often have very archetypal and flat characters, often only embellished in re–tellings by various authors
/story–tellers. It can be presumed that this is because most fairy–tales come from European oral tradition, so only the most essential things about the
plot remain. In this case, the archetypal folkloric characters are the king, the princesses (the youngest and oldest being the only two given lines), the
wandering retired soldier (who 's the protagonist), and the wise old woman who inexplicably knows all that is going on and helps him with magical
items. There aren't any other genres this story could be, as fairy–tales are a very niche category of story, as it has a way of plot and characters that is
very unique to it genre.
2. What is the exposition of the story? Summarize it in your own words and provide an example of the text.
The King's daughters go out dancing every night, but no one knows where they go. So the King makes a proclamation, that whoever can figure it out
in three days will become king after him and marry his favorite of the daughters. If the person can't figure it out in the three days, they will be
beheaded. Many princes from other countries come, try, and fail, and they're all beheaded.

Literary Analysis Of How Jack Went To Seek His Fortune
1. The genre of "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" can be classified as a fairytale. This is because of the author's usage of the words "Once upon
a time.." and the way the characters are incorporated into the story as Jack seeks his fortune. This story could also qualify as fiction because this
excerpt from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" is non–realistic due to its fairytale qualities. 2. The exposition of the written text is given when
Jack states he is going to seek his fortune. This detail of the story sets a basis for the plotline and allows the author to begin introducing characters
and a theme for the fairytale. The exposition is stated on the first line and says, "Once on a time there was a boy named Jack, and one morning he
started to go and seek his fortune." This line introduces a sense of adventure and possible conflict along Jack's journey, which is essential in
developing a plot. 3. The rising action of this excerpt from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" can best be described as, each time Jack found
an animal to join him on his journey to discover his fortune. This can be believed to be the rising action due to the development of characters. An
example of this can be found when Jack discovers his first companion, the cat, and it states, "He hadn't gone very far before he met a cat. 'Where are
you going, Jack?' said the cat. 'I am going to seek my fortune.' 'May I go with you?' 'Yes,' said Jack, 'the more the merrier.' So on they went,
jiggelty–jolt, jiggelty–jolt." The author is able to develop a sense of suspense through the repetition of developing characters. This continues as the
dog, goat, bull, and rooster are added to the story. 4. The climax of the story is found when Jack and his newfound friends come up upon some
robbers in the house the animals and Jack were planning to occupy that evening. Jack skillfully devises a plan to rid the house of the robbers and
uses his animal friends to help him. With teamwork, the plan becomes a success and they are able to spend the night in the house the robbers had just
fled from. This paragraph from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" unravels the climax of the story and allows readers to engage in a suspenseful
event, and it states,

Arsenic And Old Lace By Joseph Kesselring
Arsenic and Old Lace Arsenic and Old Lace, written by Joseph Kesselring, is a play that takes place in Brooklyn New York. The opening scene
takes place in September of 1942, in the Brewster living room. It is the home of Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha Brewster they both may seem perfectly
sane, but we find out they are both crazy murderers. Together, they have 12 dead bodies in their home. The women think they are doing their victims
favors, because all of their victims were lonely and death would be better than that. In the Brewster house, with the two aunts, lives Teddy, Teddy
believes he is the president of the United States (Teddy Roosevelt) and provides comedic relief during the show through his "presidential behavior".

Falling action includes the cops walking inside in the middle of Jonathan trying to murder Mortimer. The production comes to a halt when more cops
and Mr. Witherspoon come in much to Jonathans dismay. The Denouement is when all the papers are signed and Aunt Martha, Aunt Abby and
Teddy all go to Happy Dale. The theme of Arsenic and Old Lace is generosity is in the eye of the beholder. All of the Brewsters think they are doing
people a favor or helping throughout the play when in reality their actions are not entirely generous. For example the Aunts don 't believe they are
doing a bad thing by killing these people, instead they think they are helping old men find peace. Aunt Abby expresses this feeling when talking to
Martha saying, " He sat dead in that chair looking so peaceful– remember, Martha–we made up our minds right then and there that if we could help
other lonely old men to the same place we would" (26). Though Abby had her reasons for doing such a " kind" thing and she truly believed she was
helping, she still killed him. Mortimer also goes out of his way to be kind to Elaine. After Mortimer learns about his family 's history he tells Elaine he
will not marry her because he doesn 't want to burden her with the inevitable fact that he will be crazy too. He tells Elaine, "I love you very much ,
Elaine. In fact I love you so much I can't marry you" (55). Mortimer is trying to help

"Fight or Flight Response: The Armor He Wears"
Succeeding the untimely events of 9/11, Jonathan Foer's novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, follows the life of Oskar Schell, a young boy
experiencing trauma from his father's calamitous death. The catastrophe, which prompts Oskar to embark on a transformative journey, parallels the
accident that left his grandfather, Thomas Schell Sr., mute. These events also adversely affect Oskar, as he exhibits a variation of the fight response by
building armour around himself, hiding his true feelings. This internal imbroglio culminates when Oskar sees a photo of an unidentified man falling
off of the World Trade Center, invoking the presence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"I want to stop inventing. If I could know how he died, exactly how he died, I wouldn't have to invent him dying inside an elevator that was stuck
between floors...There are so many different ways to die, and I just need to know which was his" (Foer 257). Oskar longs to know what really
happened to his Dad, because he is tired of wearing his armor, even being willing to compromise who he is, inventing, just to find out the truth. The
Falling Man photo gives Oskar a sense of relief, thinking highly of his father, because he died trying. "Life is scarier than death" (Foer 322). The
Grandfather takes the letters he writes every day and dumps them all into his son's empty coffin, finally feeling as if the messages had been
delivered. Because of his original flight response, he ended up losing his son for a lifetime, but seeing the photo of the Falling Man helped him
realize that life is scary, but if there's only one chance to live it, then live it right. "I made the only choice I could have made," the woman answers. "I
would have never made the choice not to know" (Junod 18). Thomas ended up returning out of curiosity, and Oskar stops inventing to inquire about his
dad's death. This curiosity leads them both to the photo of the Falling Man, where they learn to appreciate the time they had with Thomas Jr. Their
flight or fight response almost ruined any chance of closure

she was born and gets blamed by her siblings and soon gets a stepmother. The story, Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah is a depressing story
because the main character gets treated unfairly and abused by her father and selfish stepmother. Adeline was treated unfairly especially when they

The film Falling Down Essays
The film Falling Down
Falling Down is a film about a man who we know very little about (at the start) apparently trying to get home to see his family, it is his little girls
birthday.
The film opens with the camera coming out of his mouth and showing his face then the rest of his body, you notice that he is wearing a white shirt
and tie. It then moves around the scene showing you that he is very hot and stuck in a traffic jam, it shows the people in the cars around him, and his
reactions to these people. One of the more striking reactions is to a group of black kids in a bus with an American flag on the side. The camera moves
around the scene more and comes to show you that the number plate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As he get madder he starts to shout at the shopkeeper and very clearly says "Do you know what I would of paid for this back in 1965? 50Вў!!"
The shopkeeper then mumbles something but "D–fens" can't understand so he asks him to speak in English, "I might be able to help you if you speak
my language" The shop keeper pulls out a baseball bat and says more clearly "I don't want any trouble" he takes the bat off of him and starts to smash
up the shop raving about prices being too high.
The comment about the prices in 1965 tells us that this man has obviously not been in mainstream culture for a long time and by protesting about the
prices to the shopkeeper is showing that he has a very bad temper. Maybe he feels that America was a better place back in those days, this relates back
to the expression he had to the black students in the bus back then neither of these things would be (that and the Korean shopkeeper). The fact that he
smashes up the shop protesting to the prices helps the reader to relate to the character, how many times have you wanted to do that?

Dancing In The Night Short Story
1. The genre of this story is a fairy tale. It soundly fits the criteria of a fairytale but could also fall into a few other categories. This story could be
considered a fiction, and a short story.
2. The exposition of this story begins with the explanation of the twelve daughters and the king's orders. The exposition explains the problem that
must be solved, this problem being the twelve daughters worn out shoes form dancing; "but every morning their shoes were found to be quite worn
through as if they had been danced in all night". The exposition explains how the problem must be solved "and find out where it was that the
princesses danced in the night", the reward for providing the solution "he should have the one he liked best for his wife, and should be king after his
death", and the risk of this endeavor "but whoever tried and did not succeed, after three days and nights, should be put to death".
3. The rising action takes place during the period of several previous attempts made by the "kings sons". It is also during the soldier's preparation phase
when he travels to the kingdom and obtains the invisibility cloak.

passageway, and continues until the solider return to his bed and pretends to snore.

Literary Analysis Of Arthur Miller's The Crucible
Date: July 24, 2017 At first, Arthur Miller has us, as readers, flipping back to the beginning of the book and checking the page numbers to make
sure that we didn't miss anything or to make sure that there weren't pages ripped out of our books. Miller introduces the story after a big event
(the event that caused the story) has already occurred. This can make it confusing for the reader to understand what more can happen, for Miller
left out what seems to be an essential part of the story. Miller's style in The Crucible requires the reader to think and draw their own conclusions
about what happened the night before the play begins, and it is necessary for the reader to read all of the book to truly understand how the play
follows the typical arc of Freytag's Pyramid. Arthur Miller's The Crucible follows the typical arc pattern of tragedy as defined by Freytag's Pyramid
because it has all the aspects of the pyramid, despite the fact that it seems as if (when first beginning the play) the reader is thrown into the middle of
the drama. While it feels as if, as readers, we are thrown into the midst of the drama, this proves to be false. Despite that the play opens on a somewhat
intense and action–packed/drama–filled scene, it becomes evident that this is only the exposition to the play. Miller uses this scene as an introduction to
the problem at hand and as an introduction to the characters of the play, and how they interact. Throughout the first part of the play, Miller

depressing. The main character, Adeline, is always being treated the wrong way, this story could not be more sad. Adeline is not noticeable to most

Adeline Yen Mah's Chinese Cinderella
Chinese Cinderella is a very moving story that will touch your heart. It is about a young girl, Adeline Yen Mah, who goes through many hardships
throughout her life. Chinese Cinderella, by Adeline Yen Mah, is an inspirational story about an unwanted and unloved daughter who tries her best to
make her family notice and appreciate her.
Adeline gets back up everytime she gets abused. She gets whipped and slapped for every little bad thing she does. Adeline said, "Niang's blows
must have caused a nosebleed (p.115)." Niang believes Adeline is showing off when her friends surprise her, which isn't true. I don't believe she
should be slapped for something that isn't even her fault. "Father ordered me to lie facedown on my bed and whipped me (p.104)." Since Adeline
went to a party instead of school, Father's punishment was to whip her. I don't think Adeline will learn her lesson, she will just be scared. Talking to
Adeline would have helped her realize right from wrong and learn from her mistakes. As you can see, Father isn't very nice to Adeline, and barely
even realizes she's there most of the time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

student and a great person. "I'm afraid I've forgotten your Chinese name (p.124)," says Father. It is very wrong for a father to forget his own

Barriers In Chinese Cinderella
Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life, however, one constant is that their parents are always there
for them. Whether they fix the problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they require. A quote from
"Mending Wall" by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the parents are not there for the child. "Something there is that doesn't love a wall,
that sends the frozen–ground–swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast" (1). In this instance,
the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection
and support they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions where the child doesn't acquire
assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self–esteem declined,
and made her feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. Adeline's step–mother, Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards
her, not just by damaging her self–esteem, but also through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). "I approached her gingerly, trembling
with terror. She slapped my face so hard I almost fell... ...she slapped me with the back of her hand against my other cheek" (Mah 114–115).

The exposition started the moment Hugh Glass' previous story was shared to us. His village was raided and houses were set on fire. Moving
forward, Hugh Glass led a team to hunt in an unknown territory in the middle of the forest. His team was suddenly attacked by Arikara Natives
while he was out hunting with his son ,far away from the others. They engaged in a bloody duel with the Arikara Natives. With only a few men left,
they took the chance to continue their journey on foot, rather than being on the boat, as this would make them vulnerable. While everyone was
resting, Hugh Glass wandered around the forest with his gun. He spotted a grizzly bear and her cubs. This was one of the major conflicts in the

My Family
The date was October 30, 2006, a crisp but clear night in the streets of Waiuku. Our next door neighbours were having a Halloween gathering filled
with drinks, an overload of food, and deafening music. Seeing as the neighbours were also my mum's mum and her sister, a whole heap of my
extended family were there. This included my cousins Grace and Mark, their parents, a few distant family members, and some I hadn't even met
before. Even though the house was overcrowded, I had a lot of fun.
Soon it was getting late, and the adults were starting to get tipsy. Me, my sister, and my other cousins headed back to my house where we played with
fake blood and makeup in our confined, second floor bathroom.
My sister Ruby, aged 11 at the time, was chosen to be the babysitter of us three little kids. (Mark and I were nine, and Grace was six). Ruby painted
Mark 's face while Grace and I watched from the side–lines. After that, Ruby painted my face into a dog. While Grace was getting her face painted, I
sat in front of the doorway since it was the only place a chair could fit in. It was shaping up to be an awesome night, and I knew that I was never
going to forget it.
So now we get to the scary part...
From the doorway of our bathroom, you could see the front entrance of the house. As it was a crisp night after a hot day, we decided to leave the
door open so that it would let in a breeze. We had no clue that it would also let in in intruder.

Intro:
A&P by John Updike and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner are two short stories which reveal to be different, odd and even bizarre in several
aspects; conversely, on the other hand, they are very similar. One similarity for John Updike, William Faulkner and many other authors, is being that
they follow the three–act structure, which helps to write their story more effectively. Furthermore, in analyzing A&P and A Rose for Emily, we see
that both share an "overarching" theme; however, their symbolism and conflicts are different, yet finally, in the end, you will see which one I infer
does a better job compared to the other.

Chinese Cinderella Quotes
Smack! Smack! The feeling of being unwanted and unloved by your parents sinks in again. Such was the life of Adeline Yen Mah, an unwanted and
mistreated daughter who suffers all her life. Chinese Cinderella, a book by Adeline Yen Mah, is an inspiring story in which Adeline overcomes her
abusive childhood with the love and care of Aunt Baba and Ye Ye. Aunt Baba believes in Adeline in many ways throughout the story. For example
"You can be anything you set your mind to be. Why, you might even become the president of your own bank one day (78)." This shows that Aunt
Baba believes that Adeline can do whatever she puts her mind to. Aunt Baba knows Adeline's full potential and tries to tell her, but Adeline has a hard
time believing that. Another example is "When I get a good report card, she locks it in her safe–deposit box, and wears the key around her neck even
when she sleeps, as if my grades were her most cherished treasures (52)." This shows that Aunt Baba keeps Adeline close to her heart. Aunt Baba
probably feels proud of Adeline's success. Aunt Baba cares for Adeline, but so did Ye Ye.

The Old Man And The Sea
Gustav Freytag, a famous German novelist and playwright, developed a well–known structure himself called Freytag's Pyramid or dramatic structure.
Freytag's Pyramid is divided into five stages the exposition, the rising action, climax, falling action, and the denouement. Each one of the stages
describe the different parts of novels and short stories. Ernest Hemingway author of "Hills Like White Elephants" and other works, such as, "A
Farewell to Arms" and "The Old Man and the Sea" has made many accomplishments throughout his writing career. His novel "The Old Man and the
Sea" won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953. Hemingway also received the Nobel Prize for literature in 1954. Hemingway's works are great
examples of stories that displays the five stages of fiction. "Hills Like White Elephants" was published in 1927 in Hemingway's second collection of
short stories. "Hills Like White Elephants" is the story of two characters, the American and Jig, and their conversation at a train station in a valley in

Chinese Cinderella is a story about Adeline, a young girl, and her family, life experiences and dreams. Discuss.

The Violence, The Religious And Violence Essay
1 This world that we are currently living in is very insecure. The violence, the religious background, the memories, the enemies, the overcoming; our
different circumstance of life's meaning, and how we deal with it. The really insecure part of it all is that literally anything can happen. Any
moment, any blink of an eye, any second, in fact any millimetre of a second. Meanwhile, any measurement of time that anything event could happen,
it matters how we choose to do action that identifies who we are, of the impact. Anything can happen. Sometimes these things happen eventually,
and we as humans become really frustrated, and angry. Why? Because we do not understand. We do not know why. We do not know the purpose.
Or did not deserve it at all. These are the common situations of how we deal with the outcome. Most people know the appropriate way to handle
these situations such as having enough hope, faith, and eventually moves on. Other times, we do know the appropriate way, yet we take it further to
the opposition of taking revenge and prey on people harmfully such as abducting, kidnapping, raping, persecute, etc. Sometimes, these events occur
based on the obsession of technology; antisocial. They think it is so unfair to them, and wants to see it recur again to someone as a way of joy to
them; In order for them to finally feel the fairness. Which of course is unacceptable, therefore is not fair at all. And who came up with all that revenge
situations anyways because like

Analysis Of If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth
1. I was, initially, struck by the imagery in the author's writing. With the vivid descriptions and general lucidity coupled with the slow revelations
throughout the plot, the style of writing keeps you engaged. This impressed me most, as well as the clever usage of a biblical quote in the title to
allude towards the themes in the story.
2. The genre of "If I Forget Thee, Oh Earth" is science fiction.
3. We find the exposition in our introduction to Marvin, the young protagonist who seems to be living in some sort of lunar colony with the remains
of humanity, as his father leads him through "long, echoing corridors." The rising action occurs as Marvin is allowed Outside for the very first time, at
which point his father brings him to a vehicle and drives them away from their Colony. In the climax, Marvin sees Earth, or at least what remains of it.
His father explains to him how Earth was destroyed, that their Colony is all that is left. In the falling action, we see Marvin understanding "the purpose
of this pilgrimage." He knows he will not venture to Earth, but in the denouement, Marvin decides to pass this story– and a dream of returning to Earth
along with it– to his own son one day. Marvin and his father return to their colony.
4. Our protagonist is Marvin, the main character. There is no clear antagonist, except perhaps the past and future of humanity and the destruction said
humanity brought upon itself.
5. Marvin is extremely mature for his age, not to mention

Comparison Of A & P By John Updike And A Rose For Emily
A&P + A Rose for Emily "A&P" by John Updike and "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner are two stories that are unequivocally divergent and
bizarre. These stories may be odd but one similarity, they do share is the three–act structure. When following the three–act structure, it helps some
authors to develop and follow a structure, in developing a better storyline more effectively. After reading A&P in comparison to A Rosefor Emily, both
share an overarching theme; in the end, an analysis of the three–act structure of the better storylines, will tell who creates a better story. "A&P"
obviously is a three act structure. The setup is the unexpurgated, of three teenaged girls through, Sammy's, the protagonist, every interpretation. The
story takes place in 1961, in a small New England town, at A&P Grocery store, on a hot summer afternoon; three girls wearing only their bikini
bathing suits, walk in causing Sammy's head to wonder with lust. The inciting incident is the fact that the girls are inappropriate dress for the store,
parading around in the store and it sets everything into motion for the rest of the storyline.
Then everybody's luck begins to run out. Lengel comes in from haggling with a truck full of cabbages on the lot and is about to scuttle into that door
marked MANAGER behind which he hides all day when the girls touched his eye. Lengel's pretty dreary, teaches Sunday school and the rest, but he
doesn't miss that much. He comes over and says, "Girls, this isn't the beach." (Updike 433)
Act Two Then the conflict is right after that, when Lengel notices the three girls standing there to checkout Lengel's treatment to the girls created some
conflict with Sammy: protagonist; however Lengel's heart was in the right place. Looking out for the town, both males and females, before hormones
rage and caused someone to act on a wrong impulse and got someone hurt. Whatever the case may be, Lengel has morals obviously, playing the role of
the antagonist and creating obstacles. The rising action I feel like Sammy was more interested in examining and wanting to learn more about Queenie
than work, because he couldn't stay focused. The crisis of act two is when Lengel asks "Sammy, have you rung up

I Have Discovered Is Adeline Yen Mah 's Chinese Cinderella
Throughout the years, reading and writing have had an impact on my life unlike any other. Specific writings have prepared me for the journey of life.
These pieces of literature consist of, Chinese Cinderella, Life's for the Living, Forever in our Hearts, an autobiography written by my

have influenced me to be unyielding. The autobiography inspires me to work diligently and never concede. Optimism is encouraged by 'Mind over

One significant autobiography that I have discovered is Adeline Yen Mah's Chinese Cinderella. Mah shares the incessant struggles of growing up
with a family that detested her and how she dealt with them. Her mother died as she was giving birth to Adeline; in turn, she was viewed as a

decided that becoming a writer would be her ultimate goal. In her story, she remarked "I read because I have to. It drives everything else from my
mind. It lets me escape to find other worlds," (Mah). This young girl was capable of pursuing her dreams through difficult times; as a result, the
pursuit of reaching my goals has become feasible.

Theme Of Chinese Cinderella
On Google.com the word "significant" refers to something that is "sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy." For something
to have a significant impact on someone, it must be meaningful, relevant, and important. As stated by Thomas Hardy, "A story must be exceptional
enough to justify its telling; it must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and woman." It must
have something meaningful, something that pulls a reader in– so that the audience can laugh when the character laughs or cry when the character cries.
It must be significant. A story that fits the definition of "significant" is one by Adeline Yen Mah. In the novel "Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an
Unwanted Daughter," Adeline Yen Mah pulls the reader in by using the themes of loneliness and acceptance
– something that is faced by nearly all at
some point in their life. What makes Yen Jun–ling's story so engaging are the emotions as well as the obstacles she went though. The circumstances she
faced, even though not to the same extent, can be somewhat relatable. The feeling of loneliness, for instance, is an emotion that numerous people face
at least once in their life. Jun–Ling was always treated as the outsider– the unwanted child, a burden to her family. At school she had friends, but she
was never allowed to meet up and play with them and when she came home it was as if she didn't exist. When she was given a little duckling, named

1.The story is written as a single continuous narrative, but the events take place over a long period of time. Estimate how much time actually passes
between the beginning of the story and end.
I would say that the story had to take place probably between nine to ten months. I arrived at this conclusion from information given in the story. Such
as I drew from the fact that after being caught with Otis D. Slemmons, Missie May and Joe had not touched in three months, then six months later the
baby boy had arrived. So in conclusion I basically just added those months together to estimate how much time actually passed between the beginning of
the story and end.

chose to introduce this different voice into the story at the end?
The dialect differs between the two at the end of the story showing that Joe's is more of broken up while the clerk's dialect is a little more advanced
than his. I think Hurston chose to introduce this different voice into the story at the end to show the noticeable pronunciation barrier between the two.
6.Throughout the story. Joe gives coins to Missie May. What is the significance of thesilver dollars at the beginning of the story? Contrast this with
Joe's meaning when he leaves Missie May the gilded coin on the table. How has the significance of the silver dollars changed at the end of the story?
The significance of the silver dollars at the beginning of the story show a way that the two love birds Missie May and Joe play together. Joe's
meaning when he leaves Missie May the gilded coin on the table is to show her what Otis gave to her was not real at all it was a fraud just like him,
unlike the real sliver dollars he tossed at her every Saturday evening. However in the end of the story the significance of the silver dollars changed to
show the couple's love which was much more valuable than gold.

What Is The Mood Of The Hot Zone

  • 1. What Is The Mood Of The Hot Zone Our time is up far exceeded my expectations. It was funny and heartwarming all in a short amount of time. Exposition. Shots of routine everyday events are what first introduce us to the main character. Shots of his alarm clock going off at 7 am. How he gently turns off the alarm and goes to his closet of perfectly spaced identical shirts. His ties and shoes are perfectly organized. At 7:15 exactly he brews his coffee. When he goes to get the paper, the gardener tells him, "Morning Dr. Stern, I added some new plants". With which he responds "Yeah" without turning around. He essentially ignored him because it is not part of his routine. While drinking his coffee, a shot of him reading National Psychologist helps us conclude that he is a doctor of psychology. Everything in his house is perfectly arranged, even his morning paper is perfectly parallel with his placemat. Everything about the exposition introduces him as a man very set in his ways and who does not like to stray from routine or organization. The inciting incident occurs when a newly licensed Dr. Gardenschwartz calls him to get some advice and to ask how Dr. Stern handles his own doctor patient relationships. This first introduces the plot because Dr. Stern answers him saying, "All in due time" and hangs up on the other practitioner. This simultaneously implies that Dr. Stern is somewhat rude, and secondly, follows his life and practice with the idea that everything will work itself out "All in due time". This ... • 2. A Modern Fable: “The Catbird Seat” by James Thurber Essay This short story entitled "The Catbird Seat" is a modern fable. The definition of a fable is a simple story with animal characters in which the big strong animal is bested, overcome by, or made a fool of by the weaker character. A modern fable is a fable that takes place in modern times. This short story by James Thurber takes place in New York City around the 1940s. Many fables written before are very much alike "The Catbird Seat" when it comes to being a fable. For example, in "The Tortoise and the Hare" the cocky, arrogant rabbit keeps on boasting about how speedy he is to the scrawny, sluggish turtle. In the end, the turtle overcomes the pompous rabbit in a race because the rabbit underestimated the turtle. Also, in "Henny Penny",... Mr. Fitweiler, resembling a Rottweiler, was confronted by a drunken man mistaking him for a Midwestern football coach. The mammoth and masculine Ms. Barrows protected him from the drunken man. This incident makes Ms. Barrows appear even more oppressive and burly. Mr. Fitweiler makes up the post of Special Advisor and hires Ms. Barrows as the newly appointed Special Advisor to return the favor to her. She started infiltrating many departments in the company and firing many workers. Even more employees quit because they couldn't stand her. This strapping woman is the bigger, stronger, and aggravating character in this modern fable. Mr. Martin is the oppressed and weaker Henny Penny in this fable. Mr. Martin has been working for the company of F. & S. for twenty two years as head of the filing department always filing everything in enormous filing cabinets. Many know him as the man who neither smokes nor drinks. Mr. Fitweiler and the late Sam Schlosser, the F. and S. of F. & S., praised Mr. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Adventures of Polaris Polaris was a 14 year old pale skinned boy with short brown hair, and brown eyes who lived on an undiscovered island with his tribe. "Mom" I whined. "When will I be able to become a fierce hunter like dad?" "You will get it when you're ready." Mom told me. She was always saying that. "But mom," I started "No! You will earn it, not whine like a baby! Now help me put these skins away." She said, angry as the wolf dad killed yesterday. I let out an angry sigh as I walked out of the house. "You better get back here Polaris, or punishment will be severe," mom snarled. I walked back to the house and silently put the fresh skins away. I then walked outside to find my friends. "Hey." I heard from behind me. "Hey, Fang." I replied. "Wanna come steal some skins with me? My mom says it's ok if I don't get caught." "Yeah, sure Fang. If I get caught and you get away, I will feed you to my dog." I said playfully. "Ha–ha very funny." He let out a sigh. "Well, we should get goin. I heard the Smerick family is away and since I'm housekeeper 'till they get back..." Fang zoned out. "I guess I can get their rare lion pelts that they got from their relatives in America. After that, the police killed the family for illegal transporting. Pretty brutal, right? At least they don't know about our island, like come on! It's bigger than Victoria! Well, I think. I've only seen it on maps." Fang said as I laughed at him. We walked over to the Smerick family's house. They lived in the near ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Tale Of Fairy Tales 1. What is the genre of this story? Are there any other possible genres this story could fall into? This story is a Fairy–tale. Fairy–tales often have very archetypal and flat characters, often only embellished in re–tellings by various authors /story–tellers. It can be presumed that this is because most fairy–tales come from European oral tradition, so only the most essential things about the plot remain. In this case, the archetypal folkloric characters are the king, the princesses (the youngest and oldest being the only two given lines), the wandering retired soldier (who 's the protagonist), and the wise old woman who inexplicably knows all that is going on and helps him with magical items. There aren't any other genres this story could be, as fairy–tales are a very niche category of story, as it has a way of plot and characters that is very unique to it genre. 2. What is the exposition of the story? Summarize it in your own words and provide an example of the text. The King's daughters go out dancing every night, but no one knows where they go. So the King makes a proclamation, that whoever can figure it out in three days will become king after him and marry his favorite of the daughters. If the person can't figure it out in the three days, they will be beheaded. Many princes from other countries come, try, and fail, and they're all beheaded. 3. • 5. Literary Analysis Of How Jack Went To Seek His Fortune 1. The genre of "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" can be classified as a fairytale. This is because of the author's usage of the words "Once upon a time.." and the way the characters are incorporated into the story as Jack seeks his fortune. This story could also qualify as fiction because this excerpt from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" is non–realistic due to its fairytale qualities. 2. The exposition of the written text is given when Jack states he is going to seek his fortune. This detail of the story sets a basis for the plotline and allows the author to begin introducing characters and a theme for the fairytale. The exposition is stated on the first line and says, "Once on a time there was a boy named Jack, and one morning he started to go and seek his fortune." This line introduces a sense of adventure and possible conflict along Jack's journey, which is essential in developing a plot. 3. The rising action of this excerpt from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" can best be described as, each time Jack found an animal to join him on his journey to discover his fortune. This can be believed to be the rising action due to the development of characters. An example of this can be found when Jack discovers his first companion, the cat, and it states, "He hadn't gone very far before he met a cat. 'Where are you going, Jack?' said the cat. 'I am going to seek my fortune.' 'May I go with you?' 'Yes,' said Jack, 'the more the merrier.' So on they went, jiggelty–jolt, jiggelty–jolt." The author is able to develop a sense of suspense through the repetition of developing characters. This continues as the dog, goat, bull, and rooster are added to the story. 4. The climax of the story is found when Jack and his newfound friends come up upon some robbers in the house the animals and Jack were planning to occupy that evening. Jack skillfully devises a plan to rid the house of the robbers and uses his animal friends to help him. With teamwork, the plan becomes a success and they are able to spend the night in the house the robbers had just fled from. This paragraph from "How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune" unravels the climax of the story and allows readers to engage in a suspenseful event, and it states, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The opening scene takes place in September of 1942, in the Brewster living room. It is the home of Aunt Abby and Aunt Martha Brewster they both may seem perfectly sane, but we find out they are both crazy murderers. Together, they have 12 dead bodies in their home. The women think they are doing their victims favors, because all of their victims were lonely and death would be better than that. The production comes to a halt when more cops and Mr. Witherspoon come in much to Jonathans dismay. The Denouement is when all the papers are signed and Aunt Martha, Aunt Abby and Teddy all go to Happy Dale. The theme of Arsenic and Old Lace is generosity is in the eye of the beholder. All of the Brewsters think they are doing people a favor or helping throughout the play when in reality their actions are not entirely generous. For example the Aunts don 't believe they are doing a bad thing by killing these people, instead they think they are helping old men find peace. Aunt Abby expresses this feeling when talking to Martha saying, " He sat dead in that chair looking so peaceful– remember, Martha–we made up our minds right then and there that if we could help other lonely old men to the same place we would" (26). Though Abby had her reasons for doing such a " kind" thing and she truly believed she was helping, she still killed him. Mortimer also goes out of his way to be kind to Elaine. After Mortimer learns about his family 's history he tells Elaine he will not marry her because he doesn 't want to burden her with the inevitable fact that he will be crazy too. He tells Elaine, "I love you very much , Elaine. In fact I love you so much I can't marry you" (55). Mortimer is trying to help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Examples Of Fight Response In Extremely Loud And... Sachi Sharma Ms. Richter Period 6 GB English 1 26 March 2018 "Fight or Flight Response: The Armor He Wears" Succeeding the untimely events of 9/11, Jonathan Foer's novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, follows the life of Oskar Schell, a young boy experiencing trauma from his father's calamitous death. The catastrophe, which prompts Oskar to embark on a transformative journey, parallels the accident that left his grandfather, Thomas Schell Sr., mute. These events also adversely affect Oskar, as he exhibits a variation of the fight response by building armour around himself, hiding his true feelings. This internal imbroglio culminates when Oskar sees a photo of an unidentified man falling off of the World Trade Center, invoking the presence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I want to stop inventing. If I could know how he died, exactly how he died, I wouldn't have to invent him dying inside an elevator that was stuck between floors...There are so many different ways to die, and I just need to know which was his" (Foer 257). Oskar longs to know what really happened to his Dad, because he is tired of wearing his armor, even being willing to compromise who he is, inventing, just to find out the truth. The Falling Man photo gives Oskar a sense of relief, thinking highly of his father, because he died trying. "Life is scarier than death" (Foer 322). The Grandfather takes the letters he writes every day and dumps them all into his son's empty coffin, finally feeling as if the messages had been delivered. Because of his original flight response, he ended up losing his son for a lifetime, but seeing the photo of the Falling Man helped him realize that life is scary, but if there's only one chance to live it, then live it right. "I made the only choice I could have made," the woman answers. "I would have never made the choice not to know" (Junod 18). Thomas ended up returning out of curiosity, and Oskar stops inventing to inquire about his dad's death. This curiosity leads them both to the photo of the Falling Man, where they learn to appreciate the time they had with Thomas Jr. Their flight or fight response almost ruined any chance of closure ... • 8. Chinese Cinderella By Adeline Yen Mah Chinese Cinderella is about a young girl named Adeline who goes through a harsh life in her early ages. Adeline's mother dies a few weeks after she was born and gets blamed by her siblings and soon gets a stepmother. The film Falling Down Essays The film Falling Down Falling Down is a film about a man who we know very little about (at the start) apparently trying to get home to see his family, it is his little girls birthday. It then moves around the scene showing you that he is very hot and stuck in a traffic jam, it shows the people in the cars around him, and his reactions to these people. The comment about the prices in 1965 tells us that this man has obviously not been in mainstream culture for a long time and by protesting about the prices to the shopkeeper is showing that he has a very bad temper. Maybe he feels that America was a better place back in those days, this relates back to the expression he had to the black students in the bus back then neither of these things would be (that and the Korean shopkeeper). • 11. Literary Analysis Of Arthur Miller's The Crucible Date: July 24, 2017 At first, Arthur Miller has us, as readers, flipping back to the beginning of the book and checking the page numbers to make sure that we didn't miss anything or to make sure that there weren't pages ripped out of our books. Miller introduces the story after a big event (the event that caused the story) has already occurred. This can make it confusing for the reader to understand what more can happen, for Miller left out what seems to be an essential part of the story. Miller's style in The Crucible requires the reader to think and draw their own conclusions about what happened the night before the play begins, and it is necessary for the reader to read all of the book to truly understand how the play follows the typical arc of Freytag's Pyramid. Arthur Miller's The Crucible follows the typical arc pattern of tragedy as defined by Freytag's Pyramid because it has all the aspects of the pyramid, despite the fact that it seems as if (when first beginning the play) the reader is thrown into the middle of the drama. While it feels as if, as readers, we are thrown into the midst of the drama, this proves to be false. Despite that the play opens on a somewhat intense and action–packed/drama–filled scene, it becomes evident that this is only the exposition to the play. Miller uses this scene as an introduction to the problem at hand and as an introduction to the characters of the play, and how they interact. Throughout the first part of the play, Miller ... It is about a young girl, Adeline Yen Mah, who goes through many hardships throughout her life. Chinese Cinderella, by Adeline Yen Mah, is an inspirational story about an unwanted and unloved daughter who tries her best to make her family notice and appreciate her. Adeline gets back up everytime she gets abused. She gets whipped and slapped for every little bad thing she does. Adeline said, "Niang's blows must have caused a nosebleed (p.115)." Niang believes Adeline is showing off when her friends surprise her, which isn't true. I don't believe she should be slapped for something that isn't even her fault. "Father ordered me to lie facedown on my bed and whipped me (p.104)." Since Adeline went to a party instead of school, Father's punishment was to whip her. I don't think Adeline will learn her lesson, she will just be scared. Talking to Adeline would have helped her realize right from wrong and learn from her mistakes. • 14. Barriers In Chinese Cinderella Every adolescent has struggles and problems that need to be resolved throughout their life, however, one constant is that their parents are always there for them. Whether they fix the problem themselves, or help their child through it, the child almost always receives the help they require. A quote from "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost helps describe what it is like when the parents are not there for the child. "Something there is that doesn't love a wall, that sends the frozen–ground–swell under it, and spills the upper boulders in the sun; and makes gaps even two can pass abreast" (1). In this instance, the child is the wall, and the parent is the person that does not love it. Slowly, the child will break apart, and eventually collapse without the affection and support they need. In Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, this is one of the few unfortunate exceptions where the child doesn't acquire assistance from any parent. Adeline had many occurrences within her community that changed her mentality, one being that her self–esteem declined, and made her feel like she needs to prove herself worthy, no matter the circumstance. Adeline's step–mother, Niang, never fails to be uncouth towards her, not just by damaging her self–esteem, but also through verbal and physical abuse (whipping, hitting, etc.). "I approached her gingerly, trembling with terror. She slapped my face so hard I almost fell... ...she slapped me with the back of her hand against my other cheek" (Mah 114–115). ... Meanwhile, any measurement of time that anything event could happen, it matters how we choose to do action that identifies who we are, of the impact. Anything can happen. Sometimes these things happen eventually, and we as humans become really frustrated, and angry. Why? Because we do not understand. We do not know why. We do not know the purpose. Or did not deserve it at all. These are the common situations of how we deal with the outcome. Most people know the appropriate way to handle these situations such as having enough hope, faith, and eventually moves on. Other times, we do know the appropriate way, yet we take it further to the opposition of taking revenge and prey on people harmfully such as abducting, kidnapping, raping, persecute, etc. Sometimes, these events occur based on the obsession of technology; antisocial. They think it is so unfair to them, and wants to see it recur again to someone as a way of joy to them; In order for them to finally feel the fairness. Compare A & P And A Rose For Emily A&P + A Rose for Emily A&P by John Updike and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner are two short stories which reveal to be different, odd and even bizarre in several aspects; conversely, on the other hand, they are very similar. One similarity for John Updike, William Faulkner and many other authors, is being that they follow the three–act structure, which helps to write their story more effectively. Furthermore, in analyzing A&P and A Rose for Emily, we see that both share an "overarching" theme; however, their symbolism and conflicts are different, they still follow the three–act structure; finally, in the end, you will see which one I infer does a better job compared to the other. • 33. Comparison Of A & P By John Updike And A Rose For Emily A&P + A Rose for Emily "A&P" by John Updike and "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner are two stories that are unequivocally divergent and bizarre. These stories may be odd but one similarity, they do share is the three–act structure. When following the three–act structure, it helps some authors to develop and follow a structure, in developing a better storyline more effectively. After reading A&P in comparison to A Rosefor Emily, both share an overarching theme; in the end, an analysis of the three–act structure of the better storylines, will tell who creates a better story. "A&P" obviously is a three act structure. The setup is the unexpurgated, of three teenaged girls through, Sammy's, the protagonist, every interpretation. The story takes place in 1961, in a small New England town, at A&P Grocery store, on a hot summer afternoon; three girls wearing only their bikini bathing suits, walk in causing Sammy's head to wonder with lust. The inciting incident is the fact that the girls are inappropriate dress for the store, parading around in the store and it sets everything into motion for the rest of the storyline. Then everybody's luck begins to run out. Lengel comes in from haggling with a truck full of cabbages on the lot and is about to scuttle into that door marked MANAGER behind which he hides all day when the girls touched his eye. Lengel's pretty dreary, teaches Sunday school and the rest, but he doesn't miss that much. He comes over and says, "Girls, this isn't the beach." (Updike 433) Act Two Then the conflict is right after that, when Lengel notices the three girls standing there to checkout Lengel's treatment to the girls created some conflict with Sammy: protagonist; however Lengel's heart was in the right place. Looking out for the town, both males and females, before hormones rage and caused someone to act on a wrong impulse and got someone hurt. Whatever the case may be, Lengel has morals obviously, playing the role of the antagonist and creating obstacles. The rising action I feel like Sammy was more interested in examining and wanting to learn more about Queenie than work, because he couldn't stay focused. • 35. Theme Of Chinese Cinderella On Google.com the word "significant" refers to something that is "sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy." For something to have a significant impact on someone, it must be meaningful, relevant, and important. As stated by Thomas Hardy, "A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and woman." It must have something meaningful, something that pulls a reader in– so that the audience can laugh when the character laughs or cry when the character cries. It must be significant. A story that fits the definition of "significant" is one by Adeline Yen Mah. In the novel "Chinese Cinderella: The True Story of an Unwanted Daughter," Adeline Yen Mah pulls the reader in by using the themes of loneliness and acceptance – something that is faced by nearly all at some point in their life. What makes Yen Jun–ling's story so engaging are the emotions as well as the obstacles she went though. The circumstances she faced, even though not to the same extent, can be somewhat relatable. The feeling of loneliness, for instance, is an emotion that numerous people face at least once in their life. Jun–Ling was always treated as the outsider– the unwanted child, a burden to her family. At school she had friends, but she was never allowed to meet up and play with them and when she came home it was as if she didn't exist. When she was given a little duckling, named ... Chinese Cinderella Research Paper Chinese Cinderella, written by Adeline Yen Mah is a depressing story because of the hardships Adeline has to cope with like being cognizant of the fact she's an unwanted child, constantly being blamed for her mothers death, and lastly being looked upon unfairly by Niang and father. Adeline was like a flower whose stem was broken. Because she had all the potential and brilliance in the world, but she didn't have the one thing she really needed, support. From a reader's standpoint, Chinese Cinderella is a depressing book because of the lack of care and nourishment Adeline obtained throughout her entire childhood. Estimate how much time actually passes between the beginning of the story and end. I would say that the story had to take place probably between nine to ten months. I arrived at this conclusion from information given in the story. Such as I drew from the fact that after being caught with Otis D. Slemmons, Missie May and Joe had not touched in three months, then six months later the baby boy had arrived. So in conclusion I basically just added those months together to estimate how much time actually passed between the beginning of the story and end. 2.How does the narrator's use of ... Why do you think Hurston chose to introduce this different voice into the story at the end? The dialect differs between the two at the end of the story showing that Joe's is more of broken up while the clerk's dialect is a little more advanced than his. I think Hurston chose to introduce this different voice into the story at the end to show the noticeable pronunciation barrier between the two. 6.Throughout the story. Joe gives coins to Missie May. What is the significance of thesilver dollars at the beginning of the story? Contrast this with Joe's meaning when he leaves Missie May the gilded coin on the table. How has the significance of the silver dollars changed at the end of the story? The significance of the silver dollars at the beginning of the story show a way that the two love birds Missie May and Joe play together. Joe's meaning when he leaves Missie May the gilded coin on the table is to show her what Otis gave to her was not real at all it was a fraud just like him, unlike the real sliver dollars he tossed at her every Saturday evening.
