2. The four Cs of Common Core
Collaboration: Is an important skill for students to have because the level of
connectedness that students will have to deal with in the their job market will
require them to be good collaborators.
Communication: Again given the job market and the availability of more varied
methods of communication students need to be good communicators to be
effective in their jobs. The type of communication used should include three
dimensional, which includes emotional, physical, and rational communication
Creativity: Jobs that current students will enter will require more than repetitively
completing a task over and over again. Thus students must understand how to
problem solve in creative ways in order to be effective members of the work force.
3. The four Cs of Common Core Continued
Critical Thinking: Will be a necessary skill for the future job market because the
problems that employees will face will require creative solutions, and in order to
determine which solution would best suit the situation critical thinking will be a
necessary skill to possess.
5. The 5th C of Common Core
Climate: In order for collaboration, critical thinking, communication, creativity, and
critical thinking to occur a climate must be established that promotes these ideas.
Peter Dewitt believes that if the staff in a school does not use the 4 common core
c’s then it is unlikely that the students will use them.
He brings up that the social health of a student is important to consider as without
it there will be no room for the rest of the C’s
6. Flat Leadership
Flat leadership is a style of leadership that does away with middle management.
Instead of communicating through an intermediary the subordinates have
immediate access to all levels in the organization.
This allows for anyone to take up a leadership role if need be.
