ASSIGNMENT:
Use the architectural assemblies listed as space defining
o b j e c t s t o d e s i g n y o u r r e t r e a t .
Use each one of the assemblies, and only one of each, to
create a composition of spaces for your retreat. Organize
them with an ordering principle in mind, i.e. axis,
hierarchy, datum, rhythm, repetition, symmetry and/or
transformation from one assembly to the other. 3.
Take the assemblies and create a visual composition
between them that has correspondence to the use and
the personalities of the user(s) (see Assemblies above).
Have the correct adjacencies for space use also, i.e. the
area for dining next to the area for cooking, etc.
Your retreat must be minimally two stories high.

Take 5 parts from a circuit(s) that have strong architectonic features and make sketches of
t h o s e p a r t , i d e n t i f y t h e i r a r c h i t e c t o n i c f e a t u r e s .
combine parts with good architectonic features to create a 2 brand new machines. Take
those 2 new machines and create a last machine by combing those 2 together.

This exercise is an exploration of basic architectural elements and their ability to define
space, volume, and form in order to create an abstract composition
Take a basic shape, make its volume, collide, hinge, duplicate and use growth in order to

Furthermore take the composition and transform it into usable space.

Assignment:
Aguirre the 2D matrix from the Matrix I, enlarge and rotate according to your preference. Take
the Malevich Painting from Matrix I and enlarge and rotate according to your liking. Create two
planes 90 degrees from each other using the 2D matrix and Malevich Painting. Take five parts
of the 3D Matrix I and create a new 3D Matrix Habitable composition.
