A WARM WELCOME TO RACHAEL GATEHOUSE (Business Co-ordinator)
‘Communication is key’ to an effective & productive networking partnership such as ours; and
after only spending a few hours in the ‘hot seat’ Rachael is already making huge
improvements, which combined with our new strategy will lay a solid foundation for our
members and the companies/clients we serve. Please go out of your way to support Rachael
in implementing these changes and provide the information required for us to be effective and
efficient in everything we do…
Rachael is looking forward to putting names to faces and will be making a start on gathering
your mug shots for the proposed networking profiles. There will be a lot more ‘LinkedIn activity’
too, so I hope your all registered and ready to go?!
BEHAVIOURAL SAFETY (A drama based approach)
This month we will be offering something completely different, namely a Drama Based
Approach to Behavioural Safety which has been prepared by Vicky Smith, project
consultant with Macnaughton McGregor Ltd. It uses interactive, drama based actions to
emphasise the difficulties in holding what could be termed, peer to peer safety
conversations, particularly between frontline staff.
The event will immerse delegates in a scripted scenario, which is acted out before them, and then will allow them
to work with the character to change behaviours and conversations that lead to incident avoidance.
In short the idea being to highlight some of the challenges one can face in relation to behavioural safety. Then
through a series of exercises including talking to the character within the scenario, delegates can scratch below
the surface of the behaviours they see and explore some of the attitudes that underpin what motivates people to
act the way they do at work. Delegates will also be able to practice a range of effective behavioural coaching
techniques that tackle the root causes of unsafe acts and not just the symptoms.
The techniques practiced through this process have a direct application to real working life, so this event
is one not to be missed.
MEMBERS WORKSHOP FEEDBACK – ‘Mapping the way forward…’
Based on members input and excellent suggestions captured from our latest workshop, coupled with an
‘Improvement Strategy Consultation’ facilitated by Vicky Smith; we are hoping to present a strategy for future
improvement and growth. This strategy is still relatively fluid at this stage so if you have some burning issues
there is no time to waste!
HSE UPDATE – Dr David Shallow will again be giving his very much appreciated update
from the HSE.
You are welcome to bring along a colleague and there will be opportunities for networking so
please confirm your attendance as soon as possible to - rachael.gatehouse@neshep.org
Attendance at NESHEP meetings can count towards your CPD.

Hope that you are able to attend on Tuesday the 4 October.
