The Importance Of Education In High Schools
High schools need to focus on all subjects equally. No subject should be more important than
another. The way to accomplish teaching all subjects equally is to hire more personnel and teach in
smaller groups. The high schools today need new rules to fit society today. Students need to be
treated as adults to mature and prosper in the outside world. Teachers who gave more responsibility
to their students have seen improvement. The high schools today have many problems which need
to change to become more successful, and so the students can become well–rounded. High schools
of this age do meet the standards, and they must change to accomplish it. Many concerns come from
parents and teachers because students show that they are upset with the modern education system.
David S. Broder states, "Their concern [was] prompted by the fact that too many students are
dropping out of high school, bored or dissatisfied with what it offers, and too many of those who
graduate lack the skills needed for well–paying jobs or, if they go on to college, need remedial
classes in English and math." This shows that students today will not trust the system because fellow
students have not succeeded through the experience. If the students do follow the system and
continue to college, they will result in remedial classes in English and Mathematics. In the Gateway
experiment, success has been found by teaching in smaller classes, creating a personal effect and
counseling (Source 4). Students learn

Getting A Free College Education For Students
One of the things that is very important in the United States is education, but over the course of the
years many cuts have been made in colleges and universities causing tuition prices to rise. Many
people have very strong opinions on this issue. Some politicians have proposed their approval in
making college more affordable for students who want to pursue their dreams with a plan that
promises to find a solution, but others completely disagree. Having a free college education for
students would bring many benefits because it would help students reduce student loans, benefit the
United States economy, and there would be a more educated society.
Getting an education is a very crucial part in today's society, tuition costs began in Medieval Europe
according an article "A timeline of college", where tuition charges first began to take place and were
supported by the church and the government. It wasn 't until 1796 when Thomas Jefferson in United
State grounds proposed an educational system that was supported through taxes. Jefferson believed
that an educated population was necessary for a government to truly work, as well as for the people
to be good citizens of it. During the 1800 some colleges did not charge tuition. According to an
article "A timeline of College Tuition" the cost to attend Harvard at the time was only $150 per year
and in those times lower class families would probably never be able to afford it without the help of
financial aid. It wasn't until the 1900

Culture Differences Between The United States And China
The culture differences between the United States and China
This year is my forth year that I has been studying in the United State. I'm already used to the U.S.
culture and the U.S. living style. So in general, I didn't experience any culture shock after I got here.
If I had any culture shock, it's probably three years ago. I couldn't remember any of them. However I
do have some thoughts about the differences between the U.S. and China after four years of
studying in the United States.
From what I have seen, "the world is becoming smaller"(Diana 2001) differences between the U.S.
and China are becoming less because of the Internet. From one of my friends who is still studying in
China, the environment of education didn't change a lot from the pass four years. He is still suffering
through the high school graduation test, which is the most important test for every student in China.
He said to me that comparing to him I'm living in heaven and he is living in hell. The culture and
value has changed a lot. For example, "fast food culture, self center, money talks, and lost of the
idea of family. However the credit system, independence, and law system in China are not as perfect
as the U.S."(Jian 2006) "China are not only growing very fast in economy but also losing the culture
in the same speed."(Jiyang 2003) "As a international students, I care a lot about the difference of
education system between the U.S. and China."(culture shock) I realized that the educational ideas

The Importance Of Education In The United States
The United States stands only at the top of the education system with its ever–growing tuition rates
and student debt that goes hand–in–hand. It's easy to want what other countries have, and the United
States won't know the waterfall effects that are caused by the implication of a free or low costing
tuition plan until it is enacted. The United States national leaders believe that cheaper alternatives to
millions of dollars in student debt is achievable. They have proposed several paths with no avail
from congress to ignite their plans.
The US has the capability to accomplish a different path in the education system, but as Michael
McPherson states, "the real question in our view is whether the United States possesses the will to
pursue such

Racial Symbolism
As the United States gained momentum, the young nation acquired a much obsessive notion to
change the world for the better. In attempting to do so, the United States colonized, destroyed, and
stole from foreign nations in the process. Through exclusion in the public sector, the American
government implemented the assimilation of immigrants and colonized peoples in a racialized
manner, which provoked American society to heighten xenophobic and racist notions. In this
historical analysis, I will explain how assimilation during the 1800s was an erroneous practice
because immigrants were forced to believe notions that were systematically implemented to
inferiorize them, by first discussing how racial exclusion social practices of the 19th century were
implemented via labeling and symbolism in the political cartoon by Louis Dalrymple "School
Begins;" followed by an analysis of how society took racial exclusion and created a xenophobic
environment as depicted by the political cartoon, "The Great Fear of the Period" through
exaggeration and symbolism.
The 1800s gave birth to a new America, one which gained the courage to conquer and civilize other
nations. In the chapter "West and East" from Common Ground: Reimagining American History,
Gary Okihiro analyzes the outcomes that manifest destiny unraveled in society. According to
Okihiro, "race, ethnic, gender, class, and ideological diversities had to be subsumed beneath the
banner of empire," indicating that the United States

Gifted And Gifted Education
Gifted and Talented Education: Socioeconomic Inequalities
Public education in America strives to benefit communities through teaching democratic principles
and the common values of society through equal opportunities for learning: equal opportunities do
not create equal outcomes. What the public education system attempts in actuality are equitable
processes, in that all individuals are given a chance to try to get an education (Dai, 2013). Conflict
theory views education in a capitalist society as a way to maintain social inequality and preserve
economic and political power for the dominant population; the underlying hidden curriculum serves
to indoctrinate the accession of working classes into the lower positions in society (Turner, 1975).
Over the last decade, the majority of public schools have shifted their attention to ensuring there is
equivalent access to specialized education programs for African Americans and other minorities, as
well as to students with disabilities or limited English proficiency (Resnick, 2006) in conjunction
with the standard rubric; public schools are adapting to the changing landscape of society, and
broadening the scope of specialized curriculum to service more diverse students both culturally and
ethnically in accelerating their academic ability. Children of both high and low–income families are
born with highly–abled abilities, but opportunities to enhance these abilities are not equally
represented, and mobility between the social classes

The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations
The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the
solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the
first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like
organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these
organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth
about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a
group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different
regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black
Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding
gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to
identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the
Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge
was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities.
Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on
January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed

Students ' Freedom Of Speech
Students' freedom of speech does not exist in society today. Students do not have rights of freedom
of speech because society places stipulations on what students can say and do. Freedom of speech
includes words, dress code, and actions. In school and at home, students are encourage to stand up
for what they believe in. Apparently standing up for what they believe in does not apply to freedom
of speech. Students are future leaders, and freedom of speech is a part of that future. The United
State Constitution guarantee all citizens living in the United States the right to freedom of speech.
Therefore, students' freedom of speech should be embraced and not condemned. Martinson (2000)
states that "freedom of speech is a basic and intrinsic right of all Americans, including students" (p.
145). If freedom of speech is a basic right, why is it that the rights of students on free speech is often
violated by society and school administrators? Instead accepting students' speech for what it is,
students are punished for speaking out. Although in most instances where administration feel the
need to restrain student's speech, what makes that decision absolute? Whenever there is a belief that
student's speech should be restrained by administrators, openness should always be embraced and
the school administrators should bear the burden of proof to show justification (Martinson, 2000).
School administrators should not always assume that a student's freedom of speech is disruptive, but

The Port Huron Statement Of The Students For A Democratic...
Jack Van Boening Mr. Pitts AP Language 16 August 2015 The Port Huron Statement of the Students
for a Democratic Society Students in Port Huron, Michigan came together to write and discuss a
document in association with the Students for a Democratic Society. The students called it a
"dialogue with society," in which they explained their concerns with American politics and
economics, and provided possible solutions to these pressing issues. The statement is meant to
inform society, and create an ongoing discussion between citizens, students, and elite members to
construct a free and equal democracy. The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) acknowledges
that the world is ever changing by including that the statement is "a living document open to
change." Similar to the SDS, the United Students Against Sweatshops aims to improve quality of
life, and try to provide aid to the underprivileged. The group, made up of entirely youth and
students, envisions a world free from oppression, where minorities are not taken advantage of for
profits. Another organization, Jobs with Justice, intends to improve working conditions among labor
jobs in America. They strive to support the unionization and bargaining of workers to create a higher
quality of living and pay. In the first sentence of the introduction, the group is troubled by the world
around them, and seems to believe that the world they grew up in was a lie. The students grew up

Lazy American Students
Are American Students Lazy?
In the article "My Lazy American Students" by Kara Miller, the author, a professor at Babson
College, points out the differences in work ethic, time management, and overall effort between her
American Students and her Foreign Students when in the classroom. Miller states "My "C,'' "D,'' and
"F'' students this semester are almost exclusively American" while her international students, despite
their language barriers "generally written solid papers, excelled on exams, and become valuable
class participants." Why is there such a difference in classroom performance between foreign and
domestic students? To answer this question we should first look at the raw data to find out the cause
to this problem. In my opinion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States, at least in 2017 for millennials and frankly even middle aged adults, revolves
around technology and media. Technology has reinvented the way we connect with the world. It's
changed how we learn, communicate, and watch our favorite shows. As a high school student I
know first hand how much technology has impacted not only education, but even a young adult's
entire life, as i'm apart of a graduating that class that started off with little technology in grade
school, to maturing with technology to the point where I have a computer that fits in my pocket and
has access to everything on the internet as I graduate in June 2017 . With that being said, media
consumes American students. According to IHS Markit, an analytical and research company who
harnesses "the deepest sources of information, analytics and expertise to forge solutions for
industries and markets that drive economies worldwide" found that the United States watches the
most Television, with the average American watching nearly six hours of Television a day (IHS
Markit, 2015). This is the most time spent watching Television out of every country in the world.
This is so high because media and pop culture is so apparent in the United States, it consumes our
day. This causes a real impact on the average American's daily life, as there is only so much time in

What Is The Difference Between Saudi Arabia And United States
I have been learning English for six years, but when I came to United States
I could not even write one sentence. English language becomes international language in all
Over the world, and it helps you to communicate with people from different countries.
If someone wanted to learn a new language should find a simple way to catch the language. There
are several differences between United States and Saudi Arabia in learning English language such
as, practicing the language, schools, and teachers. First of all, there are too many opportunities to
practice English in United States than Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, for me it wasn't easy to
practice English with people because there is not many people know how to speak English. Also,
when you speak with people, it is hard to improve your language because they are not native
speakers. However, in United States more easily to speak with people, and you can even learn from
them. And also, people are native speakers, but it is hard to understand some of them because they

In Saudi Arabia, the schools have low education to learn English, and they do not have international
students. Also, there are few schools teaching English because it is not very common in most of the
cities. Conversely, in United States, there are lots of higher education schools to learn and study
English, and there are lots of international students because most of the students have scholarship to
study in United States. And also, there are lots of schools and colleges to study English in modern

"...And then there was the condemned meat industry, with its endless horrors. The people of
Chicago saw the government inspectors from Packingtown [the meat packing district of Chicago],
and they all took that to mean that they were protected from diseased meat; they did not understand
that these hundred and sixty–three inspectors had been selected at the request of the packing

meat was kept in the state. They had no authority beyond that; for the inspection of meat to be sold

The Los Anagle-Les Project Summary
This chapter explores the underperforming United States education system that does not prepare
students to be creative, think critically, work collaboratively, or communicate effectively to be ready
to participate in society (Ferguson, 2011, p. 7). In addition to overall underwhelming performance in
academics, the failure to incorporate real world everyday experiences in mathematics prevents
students from developing critical thinking and logic skills so that they will be responsible and active
citizens of society and have access to jobs in the fields science, technology, mathematics, and
engineering (STEM).
The Los ANGLE–les project was a two–year project that began in the fall of the 2013 – 2014 school
year and lasted until the spring of the 2014 – 2015 school year. The project was geared towards
secondary mathematics students ages thirteen to eighteen. It was conducted at a designated Title I
school with a majority of the student population receiving free or reduced lunch. The 2013 – 2014
school year class had twenty–two males and ten females in grades ten through twelve in an honors
math analysis class while the 2014 – 2015 school year class was made up of thirteen males and six
females in grades eleven and twelve in an advanced placement calculus two course.

An American Utopia
The United States is currently polarized between political ideals and social differences. However,
the one topic that everyone can agree on is the pursuit of an American utopia. An American utopia is
imagined as a perfect society with no corruption, perfect harmony between civilians, and freedom of
all types for American citizens. Even though the United States is closer to a utopian society than any
other nation in the world, there are still plenty of inhibitors preventing a true utopia. Of these
inhibitors, the two primary roadblocks restricting the United States from becoming a utopia are
political extremism and censorship of speech.
Political extremism is a massive roadblock from allowing the United States to become a utopia due
to radical ideologies that lead to violence. On the extreme left side of the political spectrum is the
group called Antifa, which stands for Anti–Fascist. They believe and claim to be against all forms of
political fascism (however they do not exemplify this ideal) and free–market capitalism. Martin
Kaste and Kirk Siegler (2017) of NPR quote a witness, "'That night we went to downtown Portland
to see what everything was like, and we got stuck on the bridge because [the Antifa were] stopping
all traffic, hitting cars, jumping on cars, asking people, 'Who did you vote for?'" (Kaste, Siegler,
2017, n.p.). The witness, quoted by Kaste and Siegler, inadvertently became part of an Antifa

School Shooting Research Paper
School Shootings In the last year there have been over 300 school shootings worldwide, We were
informed, for example, that since 2013 there has been an average of one school shooting a week in
the United States. School shootings have been a huge problem in the world today due to the fact
there are poor gun laws, poor school security, and students are getting bullied. If the United States
government can fix these problems and take action, school shootings could be reduced or gone. Gun
laws is the first problem on why school shootings are so common and the act of violence is
becoming worse every year. Almost anyone can go into a gun shop or get ahold of a gun to go create
problems in society. Guns are usually just used for protection and hunting, but several mentally ill

Schools around the country have poor school security. After the Parkland shooting in Florida this
past year, students at Blue Valley High, noticed that the school security is terrible. Anyone out of the
1400 kids could easily bring a weapon into the school to cause a massacre. Yes, it is very unlikely to
happen, but it is better to be safe so everyone can have a nice learning environment with no worries.
The best way to shield a school from a gunman is to have a metal detector. A metal detector would
be the best device to reduce the chance of a school shooting. Schools are not raising their security
high enough to stop school shootings. Everytime there is a shooting, the United States government
does not take action. Society is upset with the school security around the country, people have
written letters to government and the police departments to try and take action but the government
does not do anything about the problems. Anyone can walk into a school and shoot it down. School
shootings are a matter of if students lucky and blessed to survive through the day, so lets take action

The Role Of Youth In The 1960's
Youth is charged, youth has spirit, charisma. Because of such characteristics, these young minds can
be even wiser than their predecessors. Society will cease to move forward without youths, as they
are the ones primarily facilitating new thought and ideology. The United States, post World War II,
was living in constant fear due to the Cold War. Elder generations held on tightly to conformity,
dreamlike family ideals, and a conservative political ideology which stagnated the nation. Youths,
especially free–thinking students, during the 1960's pushed the United States back into motion by
fighting for civil rights and forging a new sense of individualism. Youths are incredibly influential,
however, they must first overcome the ideologies and systems of oppression imposed upon them by
their forefathers in order to execute this influence. Youths of the 1960's were furthering a cultural,
social and political shift in the New left movement by shedding the contradictory ideology of their
elders. In a Letter to the New left, C. Wright Mills helps to establish the grounds on which they were
creating such a movement, and why it was so vital. The older generations during the 1950's were ...

Free Tuition And The United States Essay
Free tuition for colleges is a topic that has come up a lot lately in the United States. Especially in the
beginning of this year, when the democratic race was in place, Bernie Sanders started making
tuition–free colleges one of his campaign points. While there are some that seem to neglect the idea
of free tuition, the majority will agree that if not free at least it should be affordable. This topic is a
very interesting one because it provides fascinating facts on both sides of the spectrum. One thing
people argue against free tuition is that the United States has around 300 million people in
population and it could not possibly keep up with the increase in college attendance and cost. On the
other hand free tuition in colleges is relative common in almost every first world country around the
world and even second and third world countries. Which leaves us to determine that it is not only
possible for government to be responsible for education but it seems to be the norm around the
world except in the United States. I think that colleges should be tuition free. Community colleges
should be funded by the government and the government should not only be responsible in
providing free tuition to its citizens but take pride that its citizens have access to free education,
making its society an educated one. While researching this topic I came upon a very interesting
article; Why tuition free College Makes Sense. The author, Lawrence S. Wittner, explains briefly the

According to Melvin D. Williams: Geographical places are salient human attachments. My studies
suggest that identity by geographical location is not the source but the result of human divisiveness.
Certain human characteristics (phenotype, kin, "intelligence," agility, articulation, and activity)
result in social and psychological attachments that culminate in the utilization of hearth, home,
university, community, city, country, and continent for human divisiveness (Williams, 2003, p.5).
The band members can be assumed American born citizens and chanting "Where's your green

humans feel a sense of security within their territory. Angel Rodriguez being an excellent basketball

The Pros And Cons Of School Ligregation
Conversations aren't enough, explores why so many students in the United States are still attending
segregated schools. The paper goes into detail why conversations alone are not doing an adequate
job to help prevent this from continuing to happen. Throughout the article the author, Maya
Lindberg interviews New York Times Magazine reporter Nikole Hannah–Jones. They discuss in
detail why segregation in schools exist, arguments against school integration, contributing factors
that keep schools segregated, how to bring awareness to the issue and eventually how to create
change.
The reason segregation in schools exist dates back to the beginning of the United States history.
Public education was based around a class system of race. White students were and remain to be the
top priority of this system, while black and brown students are not. Looking through past data, it is
evident that black and brown students have never received the same opportunities as students at an
all white school. If black and brown students were to be integrated into schools and classrooms with
other white students, there would be a more equal opportunity for everyone involved in the
education. If the United States continues to alienate black and brown students and place them in
segregated public education environments, it is doing a disservice to its society. Marginalizing half
of the student population takes away quality education from those students who could go on to

Should College Be Free?
Should College Be Free? President John F. Kennedy stated these famous words about the beauty of
education during his 1961 proclamation celebrating American Education Week, "Let us think of
education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private
hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for
our nation." As reflected in the message of the late 35th president of the United States, education is
and has been widely considered the foundation of success and progress not just for the induvial but
for the nation as a whole. Nevertheless, over recent years, the benefits derived from pursing higher
education has been negatively impacted by the rising cost of tuition forcing thousands of students
into insurmountable debt. In the United States, the average cost of college per year is $9,650 for in–
state students. Students attending private colleges spend nearly triple that amount per year,
averaging $33,480. Even though the United States government has no legal obligation to provide a
free college education to the members of its society, an investment into higher education would
greatly benefit this country because an education improves the economic growth, provides sought
after critical thinking skills, and creates limitless personal developments. Undeniably, this would

Education is a very important part of our society. Education is the key to a financial independence
and successful future. Although, the education has a significant role in the society, the quality of
education varies across the countries. The inconsistency in the quality of the education occurs due to
culture, language and ethnicity of the countries. Nepal is different in many aspects in comparison to

Democracy, Over The Years, Has Been Both Praised And...
Democracy, over the years, has been both praised and criticized as the central form of government in
the United States. After the most recent election, political tensions have been high throughout the
country leading to an increase in the discussion of politics in public and especially on college
campuses. I have interviewed ten students on the UCSB campus about the role of democracy in the
United States and if it is a good representation of a stable form of government. My interviewees'
opinions on the stability of democracy are in consensus that democracy is the fairest and
unwavering form of government. Adversely, the students also agree that the United State's direction
of democracy has faults in the system that makes them question the ... Show more content on

The majority of the students interviewed feel that there are key aspects of democracy that
demonstrate the instability within the government. The first aspect is the inaccurate level of
inclusivity in the United State's government. Democracy was built on the ideals of representation for
all people, including all of the diverse groups of citizens. The interviewees mostly made the
consensus that people of low–income levels or in minority groups have less representation in the
U.S. democracy. "Our government is a majority of white men who are relatively well financed and
educated" (Interview, Anna). Having a high income gives you a disproportionate amount of power
over low–income families who tend to be a minority. The two outliers in the data thought that
democracy is a completely inclusive form of government. They expressed that all citizens have the
right to vote, and it is their responsibility to make the effort to go to the polls. In their interviews, the
outliers did not consider adverse effects experienced by certain socioeconomic and minority groups
that might discourage them to be represented by the government. The second factor that was
mutually agreed upon by students was the ineffectiveness of American democracy through the
process of the electoral college. All interviewees, excluding one, believed that the electoral college
is an outdated system that contradicts the ideas of democracy.

Cross Cultural Differences in Education
Education plays an important role in our everyday lives. It allows us to have the knowledge and
capabilities to perform tasks and overcome challenges in a variety of situations. Education is the
process of acquiring knowledge, skills, beliefs, or values. These attributes that are acquired in
education helps to get into college, start a career, or can even understand people. Within this
research paper I will be examining the cross–cultural differences in education between the United
States, Finland, and South Korea.
Education within the United States The United States education system operates by the state. Each
state contains school districts which jobs are to "coordinate education policies, planning for
changing educational needs within the community, and often even establishing programs curricula"
(Corsi–Bunker 2). Public schools also rely heavily on local taxes to fund their educational needs,
thus creating the community and financial status to reflect how the school performs and what they
teach. Therefore, with individual districts within the state that regulate their own education within
their schools, there is a variation among courses, subjects, and other activities. The education levels
in the United States vary but all follow about the same path. Usually, the education system goes
from elementary school (grades k–5), middle school (grades 6–8), and high school (grades

The Importance Of Rigid Gun Laws In Schools
The United States should impose intransigent and firm gun laws to protect our society. Integrating
severe gun laws will provide peace of mind to parents. Imposing rigid gun laws in schools will
provide a safe environment for future generations. Maintaining strict gun laws will positively affect
the safety of our country. Failure to maintain rigid gun laws established by our government will
make this nation insecure and untrustworthy.
By imposing stricter gun laws, the United States will provide peace of mind to parents with children
enrolled in the school system. The United States will also regain the reassurance and trust of parents
who will support the system provided by law enforcement to protect their children. Gaining

Social Injustice and Special Education
The classroom is a place of hope, where students and teachers alike can catch a glimpse of a society
that could be and where students can obtain knowledge and skills that are needed to make that
society real. (Au , Bigelow, & Karp, 2007)Within any classroom there are many degrees of the types
of cultures and social injustices that could be present. Due to this, educators need to remain cultural
sound and open to the different ways of teaching for these students to ensure that every student is
receiving the best possible education. Every public school has a special education program, however

Historically Black Colleges and Universities, established in the south by black ministers for African
Americans who were freed from slavery. The first known HBCU was a school in Philadelphia called

the top colleges are Spelman College, Morehouse College, Morgan state university, Virginia State

PWI, predominantly white institution, was established prior to 1964. These schools were mostly for

Essay On Should The Government Regulate The First Amendment
Regulate or Not?
Why would not the United States Government regulate the First Amendment in the Bill of Rights?
People in the government, and not in the government have many examples why the government
should not regulate the first amendment. The First Amendment gives us many freedoms. The United
States Government should not regulate the First Amendment.
For example, the United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment because
natural born or naturalized citizens have the right to exercise these freedoms. "They decided to wear
black armbands to create a policy that stated that any students wearing an armband would be asked
to remove it, with refusal in suspension" (Oyez, 1). Students at that school wore armbands, but some
students got suspended. These students had the right to regulate the First Amendment. If the United

can make change. Without our freedoms, we could not promote change and exercise our with the

Lastly, the United States Government should not regulate the First Amendment because the
freedoms promote diversity among citizens. "Congress shall make no law respecting the
establishment of religion" (Anastasia, 12). Congress respects people's freedoms so they do not make

Essentialism is an educational philosophy in which it is...
Essentialism is an educational philosophy in which it is important to "promote and instill cultural
literacy in all students" (Morrison, 2009, p.338). Teachers only teach the basic skills that they think
are necessary for educational and cultural growth. I noticed several things throughout my experience
with the school system which leads me to suggest that our school system is based on the philosophy
of essentialism. Essentialists believe that a curriculum that develops cultural literacy and basic skills
is needed.
In my experience, I grew up in a school system that incorporated the essentialism philosophy into
their teaching styles. My teachers focused on reaching standards set by the state. The students were
informed of what was expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, given the choice to choose any other educational philosophy I would choose
progressivism because I think that it is most effective in encouraging student involvement.
I think that class discussions are very important in helping students learning and become more
comfortable in the learning environment. The first time that I participated in this type of discussion
was in college in my public policy class, and that made it so much easier to talk in class. Before
being in this type of class, I had a really big public speaking fear but this class has helped me
overcome this fear. By opening up these channels of communications, teachers will find it easier to
communicate with their students.
I would attempt to reach the standards by motivating students and providing a comforting
atmosphere in which I would encourage student success. I disapprove of the essentialist view
regarding only teaching basic skills which are necessary for becoming "functional members of
society" (Morrison, 2009, p. 341). To help students become productive members of society, we
should provide them with tools that will help them succeed in the future. For example, instead of
focusing on basic skills, we should teach diverse cultural views and broaden the scope of the
academic programs offered. I agree that a good academic foundation is necessary to build on, but it
is just as important to provide students with a broader world view.

Take a Stand: Education through Conflict Theory Essay
Each of the many elements of society come with their own issues. One example of an issue with
society is education. Today, education is one of the main parts of a child's life. Education is where a
child starts to join society and begin the other valuable stages of their young lives. Education is also
the source of many jobs for Americans. It is even one of the biggest competitions between different
countries throughout the world. Every aspect can be applied to a theory of Sociology. Education can
be easily connected to the Conflict Theory as in there will always be a competition over power,
wealth, and prestige. Children, even at a young age, often find themselves fighting over ranks in the
school such as "jocks" or "nerds". Teachers can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The popular people feel like they run the school and even power over those with a different label. At
some schools this may not seem like a big deal but at others it has become a big problem. These
labels have led to students committing suicide or hurting other students. Altogether, it has led to the
prevention of bullying throughout the U.S. This fight for power may not seem very large, but in the
crucial stages in a young adults life it can cause many problems. There seems like no true way to fix
this problem. Kids are kids and will always be after the best "street credit". If students could find a
way to accept everyone as they are, then a change might be seen, but in the end it is one of the
examples of never–ending struggles found in the Conflict Theory. The fight for power is just the
first example of how the Conflict Theory is related to the issues associated with education.
Sometimes in every school environment, a teacher may find themselves competing with many
factors. In many cases a school is given some type of state test. With each test come standards that
students need to meet. The government is constantly putting pressure on schools to meet these
standards. The schools then place that pressure on the teachers. If a certain teacher is the center of
blame for students doing poorly on an exam, it can put a lot of pressure on them. A teacher can find
themselves in the balance of having a job or not. It may seem a

Persuasive Essay On The Cost Of College Education
"A college degree is the new high school diploma" (Sanders). The United States' society values
higher education as high school students are constantly told to be perfect students so they can get
into an amazing college and have stellar lives. They are told that if they do not get a college degree,
they will be stuck in a minimum wage job for the rest of their lives. But, this path to college and a
better life is unattainable for many Americans because of the cost. People can pay for college and
leave with no debt, pay and leave with tons of debt, or not attend at all. It is necessary and possible
for the United States to implement free four–year public college education.
"The purpose of education is not just to enable people to increase their lifetime incomes; it's to help
them understand the world, to stimulate the imagination and inspire creativity in all fields" (Weiner
224). We want these well–educated, worldly, and creative people in our society as they better the
work force. "A good society provides opportunities for everyone" (224). These students may have
the potential to become the future president, tech genius, or bold artist, but that potential may never
be found if their minds cannot be nurtured and allowed to flourish in school. Therefore, we should
be willing to pay for students to become these people as they enrich society.
The current generation in the United States faces up to "$1.3 trillion" (Fraser 104) in student loan
debt. High tuition leads to students needing to take out loans in order to afford the costs. "Students
are told that incurring this debt is justifiable because a college education increases their earning
power and boosts their human capital" (Wiener 224). But, how is it possible to better yourself when
you are stuck in debt for ten to twenty years? The job that your college degree helped you get does
not benefit until after you pay off your debt. And the debt does not just sit there, waiting till it gets
paid. It accumulates interests, and "borrowers who go more than 270 days without making a
payment on their federal student loans are deemed in default. The Education Department pays nearly

to put more into education. When people are educated, they have a motivation to want to succeed in
life. Individuals work harder to have superior paying jobs, move up in their profession. Education is
the answer to reduce the crime rate, someone that has a purpose to succeed does not have time to

misdemeanors. If we had a program that would place a few of these individuals in a class setting

The Reality Of The U.s. Education System
The Reality of the U.S. Education System
"It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane." ― Philip K. Dick, VALIS The
outlook of the United States' future is in jeopardy. The reality is that the United States is falling
behind the world and will continue do so due to its education system. The standards of U.S.
education have stagnated while globally, the competition has become fiercer and more bent upon
producing the best students. The U.S. government pays for $10,995 for a student. South Korea
spends $6,723 and consistently gets higher scores than the U.S in math, reading and science. These
are unacceptable results. In business, one should try to maximize profits while minimizing costs.

As a whole, U.S. students have less access to these factors when compared to their peers in other
countries as well. A counterargument that might be posed at this point is expressed by the idea "I'm
not a smart man, but I know what love is." from Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is a symbol of the
American Dream and of American values. In his simplicity, he enjoys life around him as it comes
and ventures into wars and business the same way. This argument is centered around that a
successful life is a happy one with a positive outlook on life and a simple understanding of how the
world works. This argument cannot be used in the case of the U.S. education system as studies show
that more students than ever in the United States are dealing with burdens and responsibilities forced
upon them. The students have been overworked to the point where the vast majority of them have
felt overwhelmed or depressed at one point or another. The unhappiness of the current students is
only magnified when they leave school and enter the real world. This is our reality in the United
States. The U.S. education system puts in uneven amounts of money per student from state to state.
New York and Washington D.C. spend almost $20,000 per student. $20,000. Utah spends around
$6,500 per student. This huge lopsidedness is incredibly unfair. Beyond the sheer imbalance of the
costs for education in some states, it brings us back to our original question in the introduction. How

Persuasive Essay On Higher Education
Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a
sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to
reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an
intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college
students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the
Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that
would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky
future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four–year
diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs.
In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn,
defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy
that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the
federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good
and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community
colleges to offer four–year degrees.

Increasingly, achieving higher education has resulted in students to take a substantial amount of

years due to the massive $1.4 Trillion dollars acquired in student loans. Nations such as Sweden and
Australia have similar lines as the United States; these countries have fixed their student loan issues
by basing the payments on your earnings and allow halts in payments if earnings drop. These
adaptations have allowed these countries to avoid having a crisis. Compared to the American model,
which lacks functionality and efficiency, the U.S. expects full repayments in an unrealistic short

created a system to benefit their citizens have promoted progressive changes. United States are more

as Americans, but don't pay until earning over forty thousand dollars (Dynarski 1). This ensures if

students may have in society and the economy of this country. There are thousands of

An educational reform in higher education would eliminate the many educational and occupational
barriers undocumented students face today. By permitting access to undocumented students into
postsecondary education and earn a degree would eliminate poverty and unemployment levels in the
country. It is essential to give as many young people undocumented or not the opportunity to enroll
and succeed in postsecondary education to strengthen the economy of the United States. The
younger generations are the future of this country and undocumented students are not the exception.
These young students also play an important part in society today and if given the opportunity to
earn a professional degree will most definitely impact American society in the years to come.

and they have spent more years in the United States than in their country of birth. (Baum, Flores,

Regulate What Happens On The Internet

modern and technological society, we rely heavily on smartphones and the Internet for much of our

Some people also believe that everything they say or post on social media won't and doesn’t

say in our posts, the United States Government actually monitors what we, the people, say and how

threats to the Government or the President. Last year, one of the thousands of students at my high

The Importance Of Education In High Schools

  • 1. The Importance Of Education In High Schools High schools need to focus on all subjects equally. No subject should be more important than another. The way to accomplish teaching all subjects equally is to hire more personnel and teach in smaller groups. The high schools today need new rules to fit society today. Students need to be treated as adults to mature and prosper in the outside world. Teachers who gave more responsibility to their students have seen improvement. The high schools today have many problems which need to change to become more successful, and so the students can become well–rounded. High schools of this age do meet the standards, and they must change to accomplish it. Many concerns come from parents and teachers because students show that they are upset with the modern education system. David S. Broder states, "Their concern [was] prompted by the fact that too many students are dropping out of high school, bored or dissatisfied with what it offers, and too many of those who graduate lack the skills needed for well–paying jobs or, if they go on to college, need remedial classes in English and math." This shows that students today will not trust the system because fellow students have not succeeded through the experience. If the students do follow the system and continue to college, they will result in remedial classes in English and Mathematics. In the Gateway experiment, success has been found by teaching in smaller classes, creating a personal effect and counseling (Source 4). Students learn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Getting A Free College Education For Students One of the things that is very important in the United States is education, but over the course of the years many cuts have been made in colleges and universities causing tuition prices to rise. Many people have very strong opinions on this issue. Some politicians have proposed their approval in making college more affordable for students who want to pursue their dreams with a plan that promises to find a solution, but others completely disagree. Having a free college education for students would bring many benefits because it would help students reduce student loans, benefit the United States economy, and there would be a more educated society. Getting an education is a very crucial part in today's society, tuition costs began in Medieval Europe according an article "A timeline of college", where tuition charges first began to take place and were supported by the church and the government. It wasn 't until 1796 when Thomas Jefferson in United State grounds proposed an educational system that was supported through taxes. Jefferson believed that an educated population was necessary for a government to truly work, as well as for the people to be good citizens of it. During the 1800 some colleges did not charge tuition. According to an article "A timeline of College Tuition" the cost to attend Harvard at the time was only $150 per year and in those times lower class families would probably never be able to afford it without the help of financial aid. It wasn't until the 1900 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Culture Differences Between The United States And China The culture differences between the United States and China This year is my forth year that I has been studying in the United State. I'm already used to the U.S. culture and the U.S. living style. So in general, I didn't experience any culture shock after I got here. If I had any culture shock, it's probably three years ago. I couldn't remember any of them. However I do have some thoughts about the differences between the U.S. and China after four years of studying in the United States. From what I have seen, "the world is becoming smaller"(Diana 2001) differences between the U.S. and China are becoming less because of the Internet. From one of my friends who is still studying in China, the environment of education didn't change a lot from the pass four years. He is still suffering through the high school graduation test, which is the most important test for every student in China. He said to me that comparing to him I'm living in heaven and he is living in hell. The culture and value has changed a lot. For example, "fast food culture, self center, money talks, and lost of the idea of family. However the credit system, independence, and law system in China are not as perfect as the U.S."(Jian 2006) "China are not only growing very fast in economy but also losing the culture in the same speed."(Jiyang 2003) "As a international students, I care a lot about the difference of education system between the U.S. and China."(culture shock) I realized that the educational ideas ... • 7. The Importance Of Education In The United States The United States stands only at the top of the education system with its ever–growing tuition rates and student debt that goes hand–in–hand. It's easy to want what other countries have, and the United States won't know the waterfall effects that are caused by the implication of a free or low costing tuition plan until it is enacted. The United States national leaders believe that cheaper alternatives to millions of dollars in student debt is achievable. They have proposed several paths with no avail from congress to ignite their plans. The US has the capability to accomplish a different path in the education system, but as Michael McPherson states, "the real question in our view is whether the United States possesses the will to pursue such ... • 9. Racial Symbolism As the United States gained momentum, the young nation acquired a much obsessive notion to change the world for the better. In attempting to do so, the United States colonized, destroyed, and stole from foreign nations in the process. Through exclusion in the public sector, the American government implemented the assimilation of immigrants and colonized peoples in a racialized manner, which provoked American society to heighten xenophobic and racist notions. In this historical analysis, I will explain how assimilation during the 1800s was an erroneous practice because immigrants were forced to believe notions that were systematically implemented to inferiorize them, by first discussing how racial exclusion social practices of the 19th century were implemented via labeling and symbolism in the political cartoon by Louis Dalrymple "School Begins;" followed by an analysis of how society took racial exclusion and created a xenophobic environment as depicted by the political cartoon, "The Great Fear of the Period" through exaggeration and symbolism. The 1800s gave birth to a new America, one which gained the courage to conquer and civilize other nations. In the chapter "West and East" from Common Ground: Reimagining American History, Gary Okihiro analyzes the outcomes that manifest destiny unraveled in society. According to Okihiro, "race, ethnic, gender, class, and ideological diversities had to be subsumed beneath the banner of empire," indicating that the United States ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Gifted And Gifted Education Gifted and Talented Education: Socioeconomic Inequalities Public education in America strives to benefit communities through teaching democratic principles and the common values of society through equal opportunities for learning: equal opportunities do not create equal outcomes. What the public education system attempts in actuality are equitable processes, in that all individuals are given a chance to try to get an education (Dai, 2013). Conflict theory views education in a capitalist society as a way to maintain social inequality and preserve economic and political power for the dominant population; the underlying hidden curriculum serves to indoctrinate the accession of working classes into the lower positions in society (Turner, 1975). Over the last decade, the majority of public schools have shifted their attention to ensuring there is equivalent access to specialized education programs for African Americans and other minorities, as well as to students with disabilities or limited English proficiency (Resnick, 2006) in conjunction with the standard rubric; public schools are adapting to the changing landscape of society, and broadening the scope of specialized curriculum to service more diverse students both culturally and ethnically in accelerating their academic ability. Children of both high and low–income families are born with highly–abled abilities, but opportunities to enhance these abilities are not equally represented, and mobility between the social classes ... • 13. The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities. Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Students ' Freedom Of Speech Students' freedom of speech does not exist in society today. Students do not have rights of freedom of speech because society places stipulations on what students can say and do. Freedom of speech includes words, dress code, and actions. In school and at home, students are encourage to stand up for what they believe in. Apparently standing up for what they believe in does not apply to freedom of speech. Students are future leaders, and freedom of speech is a part of that future. The United State Constitution guarantee all citizens living in the United States the right to freedom of speech. Therefore, students' freedom of speech should be embraced and not condemned. Martinson (2000) states that "freedom of speech is a basic and intrinsic right of all Americans, including students" (p. 145). If freedom of speech is a basic right, why is it that the rights of students on free speech is often violated by society and school administrators? Instead accepting students' speech for what it is, students are punished for speaking out. Although in most instances where administration feel the need to restrain student's speech, what makes that decision absolute? Whenever there is a belief that student's speech should be restrained by administrators, openness should always be embraced and the school administrators should bear the burden of proof to show justification (Martinson, 2000). School administrators should not always assume that a student's freedom of speech is disruptive, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. The Port Huron Statement Of The Students For A Democratic... Jack Van Boening Mr. Pitts AP Language 16 August 2015 The Port Huron Statement of the Students for a Democratic Society Students in Port Huron, Michigan came together to write and discuss a document in association with the Students for a Democratic Society. The students called it a "dialogue with society," in which they explained their concerns with American politics and economics, and provided possible solutions to these pressing issues. The statement is meant to inform society, and create an ongoing discussion between citizens, students, and elite members to construct a free and equal democracy. The Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) acknowledges that the world is ever changing by including that the statement is "a living document open to change." Similar to the SDS, the United Students Against Sweatshops aims to improve quality of life, and try to provide aid to the underprivileged. The group, made up of entirely youth and students, envisions a world free from oppression, where minorities are not taken advantage of for profits. Another organization, Jobs with Justice, intends to improve working conditions among labor jobs in America. They strive to support the unionization and bargaining of workers to create a higher quality of living and pay. In the first sentence of the introduction, the group is troubled by the world around them, and seems to believe that the world they grew up in was a lie. In the article "My Lazy American Students" by Kara Miller, the author, a professor at Babson College, points out the differences in work ethic, time management, and overall effort between her American Students and her Foreign Students when in the classroom. Miller states "My "C,'' "D,'' and "F'' students this semester are almost exclusively American" while her international students, despite their language barriers "generally written solid papers, excelled on exams, and become valuable class participants." Why is there such a difference in classroom performance between foreign and domestic students? To answer this question we should first look at the raw data to find out the cause to this problem. In my opinion, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States, at least in 2017 for millennials and frankly even middle aged adults, revolves around technology and media. Technology has reinvented the way we connect with the world. It's changed how we learn, communicate, and watch our favorite shows. As a high school student I know first hand how much technology has impacted not only education, but even a young adult's entire life, as i'm apart of a graduating that class that started off with little technology in grade school, to maturing with technology to the point where I have a computer that fits in my pocket and has access to everything on the internet as I graduate in June 2017 . With that being said, media consumes American students. According to IHS Markit, an analytical and research company who harnesses "the deepest sources of information, analytics and expertise to forge solutions for industries and markets that drive economies worldwide" found that the United States watches the most Television, with the average American watching nearly six hours of Television a day (IHS Markit, 2015). This is the most time spent watching Television out of every country in the world. This is so high because media and pop culture is so apparent in the United States, it consumes our day. This causes a real impact on the average American's daily life, as there is only so much time in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

English language becomes international language in all Over the world, and it helps you to communicate with people from different countries. If someone wanted to learn a new language should find a simple way to catch the language. There are several differences between United States and Saudi Arabia in learning English language such as, practicing the language, schools, and teachers. First of all, there are too many opportunities to practice English in United States than Saudi Arabia. In Saudi Arabia, for me it wasn't easy to practice English with people because there is not many people know how to speak English. Also, when you speak with people, it is hard to improve your language because they are not native speakers. However, in United States more easily to speak with people, and you can even learn from them. The Los Anagle-Les Project Summary This chapter explores the underperforming United States education system that does not prepare students to be creative, think critically, work collaboratively, or communicate effectively to be ready to participate in society (Ferguson, 2011, p. 7). In addition to overall underwhelming performance in academics, the failure to incorporate real world everyday experiences in mathematics prevents students from developing critical thinking and logic skills so that they will be responsible and active citizens of society and have access to jobs in the fields science, technology, mathematics, and engineering (STEM). The Los ANGLE–les project was a two–year project that began in the fall of the 2013 – 2014 school year and lasted until the spring of the 2014 – 2015 school year. The project was geared towards secondary mathematics students ages thirteen to eighteen. It was conducted at a designated Title I school with a majority of the student population receiving free or reduced lunch. The 2013 – 2014 school year class had twenty–two males and ten females in grades ten through twelve in an honors math analysis class while the 2014 – 2015 school year class was made up of thirteen males and six females in grades eleven and twelve in an advanced placement calculus two course. • 28. An American Utopia The United States is currently polarized between political ideals and social differences. However, the one topic that everyone can agree on is the pursuit of an American utopia. An American utopia is imagined as a perfect society with no corruption, perfect harmony between civilians, and freedom of all types for American citizens. Even though the United States is closer to a utopian society than any other nation in the world, there are still plenty of inhibitors preventing a true utopia. Of these inhibitors, the two primary roadblocks restricting the United States from becoming a utopia are political extremism and censorship of speech. Political extremism is a massive roadblock from allowing the United States to become a utopia due to radical ideologies that lead to violence. On the extreme left side of the political spectrum is the group called Antifa, which stands for Anti–Fascist. They believe and claim to be against all forms of political fascism (however they do not exemplify this ideal) and free–market capitalism. Martin Kaste and Kirk Siegler (2017) of NPR quote a witness, "'That night we went to downtown Portland to see what everything was like, and we got stuck on the bridge because [the Antifa were] stopping all traffic, hitting cars, jumping on cars, asking people, 'Who did you vote for?'" (Kaste, Siegler, 2017, n.p.). The witness, quoted by Kaste and Siegler, inadvertently became part of an Antifa "demonstration" in Portland, Oregon, and stated that the group ... School Shooting Research Paper School Shootings In the last year there have been over 300 school shootings worldwide, We were informed, for example, that since 2013 there has been an average of one school shooting a week in the United States. School shootings have been a huge problem in the world today due to the fact there are poor gun laws, poor school security, and students are getting bullied. If the United States government can fix these problems and take action, school shootings could be reduced or gone. Gun laws is the first problem on why school shootings are so common and the act of violence is becoming worse every year. After the Parkland shooting in Florida this past year, students at Blue Valley High, noticed that the school security is terrible. Yes, it is very unlikely to happen, but it is better to be safe so everyone can have a nice learning environment with no worries. The best way to shield a school from a gunman is to have a metal detector. A metal detector would be the best device to reduce the chance of a school shooting. Schools are not raising their security high enough to stop school shootings. Everytime there is a shooting, the United States government does not take action. Society is upset with the school security around the country, people have written letters to government and the police departments to try and take action but the government does not do anything about the problems. • 32. The Role Of Youth In The 1960's Youth is charged, youth has spirit, charisma. Because of such characteristics, these young minds can be even wiser than their predecessors. Society will cease to move forward without youths, as they are the ones primarily facilitating new thought and ideology. The United States, post World War II, was living in constant fear due to the Cold War. Elder generations held on tightly to conformity, dreamlike family ideals, and a conservative political ideology which stagnated the nation. Youths, especially free–thinking students, during the 1960's pushed the United States back into motion by fighting for civil rights and forging a new sense of individualism. Youths are incredibly influential, however, they must first overcome the ideologies and systems of oppression imposed upon them by their forefathers in order to execute this influence. Youths of the 1960's were furthering a cultural, social and political shift in the New left movement by shedding the contradictory ideology of their elders. In a Letter to the New left, C. Wright Mills helps to establish the grounds on which they were creating such a movement, and why it was so vital. The older generations during the 1950's were ... • 34. Free Tuition And The United States Essay Free tuition for colleges is a topic that has come up a lot lately in the United States. Especially in the beginning of this year, when the democratic race was in place, Bernie Sanders started making tuition–free colleges one of his campaign points. While there are some that seem to neglect the idea of free tuition, the majority will agree that if not free at least it should be affordable. This topic is a very interesting one because it provides fascinating facts on both sides of the spectrum. One thing people argue against free tuition is that the United States has around 300 million people in population and it could not possibly keep up with the increase in college attendance and cost. On the other hand free tuition in colleges is relative common in almost every first world country around the world and even second and third world countries. Which leaves us to determine that it is not only possible for government to be responsible for education but it seems to be the norm around the world except in the United States. I think that colleges should be tuition free. Community colleges should be funded by the government and the government should not only be responsible in providing free tuition to its citizens but take pride that its citizens have access to free education, making its society an educated one. While researching this topic I came upon a very interesting article; Why tuition free College Makes Sense. The author, Lawrence S. Wittner, explains briefly the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The band members can be assumed American born citizens and chanting "Where's your green card?" expresses their practice of racial divisiveness. The paper goes into detail why conversations alone are not doing an adequate job to help prevent this from continuing to happen. Throughout the article the author, Maya Lindberg interviews New York Times Magazine reporter Nikole Hannah–Jones. They discuss in detail why segregation in schools exist, arguments against school integration, contributing factors that keep schools segregated, how to bring awareness to the issue and eventually how to create change. The reason segregation in schools exist dates back to the beginning of the United States history. Public education was based around a class system of race. White students were and remain to be the top priority of this system, while black and brown students are not. Looking through past data, it is evident that black and brown students have never received the same opportunities as students at an all white school. If black and brown students were to be integrated into schools and classrooms with other white students, there would be a more equal opportunity for everyone involved in the education. If the United States continues to alienate black and brown students and place them in segregated public education environments, it is doing a disservice to its society. • 42. Should College Be Free? Should College Be Free? President John F. As reflected in the message of the late 35th president of the United States, education is and has been widely considered the foundation of success and progress not just for the induvial but for the nation as a whole. Nevertheless, over recent years, the benefits derived from pursing higher education has been negatively impacted by the rising cost of tuition forcing thousands of students into insurmountable debt. In the United States, the average cost of college per year is $9,650 for in– state students. Students attending private colleges spend nearly triple that amount per year, averaging $33,480. Even though the United States government has no legal obligation to provide a free college education to the members of its society, an investment into higher education would greatly benefit this country because an education improves the economic growth, provides sought after critical thinking skills, and creates limitless personal developments. Democracy was built on the ideals of representation for all people, including all of the diverse groups of citizens. The interviewees mostly made the consensus that people of low–income levels or in minority groups have less representation in the U.S. democracy. "Our government is a majority of white men who are relatively well financed and educated" (Interview, Anna). Having a high income gives you a disproportionate amount of power over low–income families who tend to be a minority. The two outliers in the data thought that democracy is a completely inclusive form of government. They expressed that all citizens have the right to vote, and it is their responsibility to make the effort to go to the polls. In their interviews, the outliers did not consider adverse effects experienced by certain socioeconomic and minority groups that might discourage them to be represented by the government. The second factor that was mutually agreed upon by students was the ineffectiveness of American democracy through the process of the electoral college. • 48. Cross Cultural Differences Between The United States,... Michael Dennis Soc 210 Introduction to Sociology 5H02FA Cross Cultural Differences in Education Education plays an important role in our everyday lives. It allows us to have the knowledge and capabilities to perform tasks and overcome challenges in a variety of situations. Education is the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, beliefs, or values. These attributes that are acquired in education helps to get into college, start a career, or can even understand people. Within this research paper I will be examining the cross–cultural differences in education between the United States, Finland, and South Korea. Education within the United States The United States education system operates by the state. Each state contains school districts which jobs are to "coordinate education policies, planning for changing educational needs within the community, and often even establishing programs curricula" (Corsi–Bunker 2). Public schools also rely heavily on local taxes to fund their educational needs, thus creating the community and financial status to reflect how the school performs and what they teach. Therefore, with individual districts within the state that regulate their own education within their schools, there is a variation among courses, subjects, and other activities. The education levels in the United States vary but all follow about the same path. Usually, the education system goes from elementary school (grades k–5), middle school (grades 6–8), and high school (grades ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States' society values higher education as high school students are constantly told to be perfect students so they can get into an amazing college and have stellar lives. They are told that if they do not get a college degree, they will be stuck in a minimum wage job for the rest of their lives. But, this path to college and a better life is unattainable for many Americans because of the cost. People can pay for college and leave with no debt, pay and leave with tons of debt, or not attend at all. It is necessary and possible for the United States to implement free four–year public college education. "The purpose of education is not just to enable people to increase their lifetime incomes; it's to help them understand the world, to stimulate the imagination and inspire creativity in all fields" (Weiner 224). If we had a program that would place a few of these individuals in a class setting that would make them learn a field, besides of being in jail locked up .This could be the push that any of them need to stop their troubling behavior and grab them into our working society. A sufficient number of the individuals that have gone to jail will head back to jail. It is the one way of life that they know. Therefore if we as a nation are not able to step up to change their pattern, then we can only expect crime rates to continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Reality Of The U.s. Education System The Reality of the U.S. Education System "It is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane." ― Philip K. Dick, VALIS The outlook of the United States' future is in jeopardy. The reality is that the United States is falling behind the world and will continue do so due to its education system. The standards of U.S. education have stagnated while globally, the competition has become fiercer and more bent upon producing the best students. The U.S. government pays for $10,995 for a student. South Korea spends $6,723 and consistently gets higher scores than the U.S in math, reading and science. These are unacceptable results. In business, one should try to maximize profits while minimizing costs. The U.S. education system not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a whole, U.S. students have less access to these factors when compared to their peers in other countries as well. A counterargument that might be posed at this point is expressed by the idea "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is." from Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is a symbol of the American Dream and of American values. In his simplicity, he enjoys life around him as it comes and ventures into wars and business the same way. This argument is centered around that a successful life is a happy one with a positive outlook on life and a simple understanding of how the world works. This argument cannot be used in the case of the U.S. education system as studies show that more students than ever in the United States are dealing with burdens and responsibilities forced upon them. The students have been overworked to the point where the vast majority of them have felt overwhelmed or depressed at one point or another. The unhappiness of the current students is only magnified when they leave school and enter the real world. This is our reality in the United States. The U.S. education system puts in uneven amounts of money per student from state to state. New York and Washington D.C. spend almost $20,000 per student. $20,000. Utah spends around $6,500 per student. This huge lopsidedness is incredibly unfair. Beyond the sheer imbalance of the costs for education in some states, it brings us back to our original question in the introduction. How is it possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four–year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community colleges to offer four–year degrees. As a result of the recession in 2008, states have reduced public funding for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Essay On Student Debt Crisis In commonality to American society has been our ongoing debt crisis regarding college loans. Increasingly, achieving higher education has resulted in students to take a substantial amount of loans in order to attend a 4–year university. The United States has acquired debt crisis in recent years due to the massive $1.4 Trillion dollars acquired in student loans. Nations such as Sweden and Australia have similar lines as the United States; these countries have fixed their student loan issues by basing the payments on your earnings and allow halts in payments if earnings drop. These adaptations have allowed these countries to avoid having a crisis. Compared to the American model, which lacks functionality and efficiency, the U.S. expects full repayments in an unrealistic short amount of time. "The lengths of debt payments should align with life assets," (Dynarski 1). Does this have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We have become driven to accept the burden of debt and have developed into a norm in American adulthood. In some aspects, it has made the seriousness of the occurring debt to become of less significance. This sense of pettiness allows the opportunity of attending a university less approachable because the cost could be seen as a liability. It's prevalent, that countries that have created a system to benefit their citizens have promoted progressive changes. United States are more than capable; countries such as Australia have greater income equality and borrow a similar amount as Americans, but don't pay until earning over forty thousand dollars (Dynarski 1). This ensures if one doesn't feel limited in their society, it heartens the best of minds. In the competitiveness of globalization, education must be deemed as a right instead of a luxury. • 76. Regulate What Happens On The Internet "The United States Government, to an extent, can regulate what happens on the Internet. In today's modern and technological society, we rely heavily on smartphones and the Internet for much of our daily lives. We are constantly posting on social media forums, such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. We, the people, tend to believe that everything we post on the Internet cannot be used against us. Some people also believe that everything they say or post on social media won't and doesn’t matter. However, that's far from the truth. When it comes to social media and what we, as a society, say in our posts, the United States Government actually monitors what we, the people, say and how we, the people, act. The United States Government really doesn't care about that family vacation you took back in 2014 to Chicago or that new haircut you got that you thought would be the ultimate game changer. The United States Government mainly searches for ""red flags"" in posts, such as threats to the Government or the President. Last year, one of the thousands of students at my high school posted on one of his social media accounts that he was going to kill Donald Trump. Within the next twenty four hours, the secret service, dressed in their black suit and ties, were at my school, placing handcuffs on that particular student. That student was ...
