Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of things (IoT)
◦ is the network of devices such as vehicles, and
home appliances that
contain electronics, software, sensors, actuators,
and connectivity which allows these things to
connect, interact and exchange data.
(wikipedia.org)
The internet of things, or IoT,
◦ is a system of interrelated computing devices,
mechanical and digital machines, objects,
animals or people that are provided with unique
identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data
over a network without requiring human-to-
human or human-to-computer interaction.

Big Data
Big data refers to data sets that are too large or
complex for traditional data-
processing application software to adequately
deal with. Data with many cases (rows) offer
greater statistical power, while data with higher
complexity (more attributes or columns) may
lead to a higher false discovery rate. Big data
challenges include capturing data, data
storage, data analysis,
search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying,
updating, information privacy and data source.
Big data was originally associated with three key
concepts: volume, variety, and velocity. Other
concepts later attributed with big data
are veracity (i.e., how much noise is in the
data) and value.
(wikipedia.org)
ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology
Big Data
Big data refers to a process that is used when
traditional data mining and handling techniques
cannot uncover the insights and meaning of the
underlying data. Data that is unstructured or time
sensitive or simply very large cannot be processed
by relational database engines. This type of data
requires a different processing approach called big
data, which uses massive parallelism on readily-
available hardware.
 Big data analytics for manufacturing
applications is marketed as a "5C architecture"
(connection, conversion, cyber, cognition, and
configuration).
 Factory work and Cyber-physical systems may
have an extended "6C system":
o Connection (sensor and networks)
o Cloud (computing and data on demand)
o Cyber (model and memory)
o Content/context (meaning and correlation)
o Community (sharing and collaboration)
o Customization (personalization and value)

Robot
A robot is a machine—especially one
programmable by a computer— capable of
carrying out a complex series of actions
automatically. Robots can be guided by an
external control device or the control may be
embedded within. Robots may be constructed to
take on human form but most robots are
machines designed to perform a task with no
regard to how they look.
(wikipedia.org)
Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous
and range from humanoids such
as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative
Mobility (ASIMO) and TOSY's TOSY Ping Pong
Playing Robot(TOPIO) to industrial robots,
medical operating robots, patient assist robots,
dog therapy robots, collectively
programmed swarm robots, UAV drones such
as General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and even
microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike
appearance or automating movements, a robot
may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of
its own. Autonomous things are expected to
proliferate in the coming decade, with home
robotics and the autonomous car as some of the
main drivers.

AR & VR

AR & VR
Virtual reality (VR)
is an interactive computer-generated experience taking
place within a simulated environment. It incorporates
mainly auditory and visual feedback, but may also allow
other types of sensory feedback like haptic. This
immersive environment can be similar to the real world or
it can be fantastical.
Augmented reality systems may also be considered a form
of VR that layers virtual information over a live camera
feed into a headset or through a smartphone or tablet
device giving the user the ability to view three-
dimensional images.
Augmented reality (AR)
is an interactive experience of a real-world environment
where the objects that reside in the real-world are
"augmented" by computer-generated perceptual
information, sometimes across multiple sensory
modalities,
including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory,
and olfactory. The overlaid sensory information can be
constructive (i.e. additive to the natural environment) or
destructive (i.e. masking of the natural environment) and
is seamlessly interwoven with the physical world such that
it is perceived as an immersive aspect of the real
environment. In this way, augmented reality alters one's
ongoing perception of a real-world environment,
whereas virtual reality completely replaces the user's real-
world environment with a simulated one.
Augmented reality is related to two largely synonymous
terms: mixed reality and computer-mediated reality.

3D Printing
3D printing is any of various processes in which material is joined or solidified under computer
control to create a three-dimensional object, with material being added together (such as liquid
molecules or powder grains being fused together), typically layer by layer. In the 1990s, 3D printing
techniques were considered suitable only for the production of functional or aesthetical prototypes
and a more appropriate term was rapid prototyping. Today, the precision, repeatability and material
range have increased to the point that 3D printing is considered as an industrial production
technology, with the name of additive manufacturing. 3D printed objects can have a very complex
shape or geometry and are always produced starting from a digital 3D model or a CAD file. There are
many different 3D printing processes, that can be grouped into seven categories:
o Vat photopolymerization
o Material jetting
o Binder jetting
o Powder bed fusion
o Material extrusion
o Directed energy deposition
o Sheet lamination

Cloud Computing
Cloud computing makes computer system resources, especially storage and
computing power, available on demand without direct active management by the
user. The term is generally used to describe data centers available to many users
over the Internet. Large clouds, predominant today, often have functions distributed
over multiple locations from central servers. If the connection to the user is relatively
close, it may be designated an Edge server.
Clouds may be limited to a single organization (enterprise clouds,) be available to
many organizations (public cloud,) or a combination of both (hybrid cloud.) The
largest public cloud is Amazon AWS.
Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies
of scale.
Advocates of public and hybrid clouds note that cloud computing allows companies
to avoid or minimize up-front IT infrastructure costs. Proponents also claim that
cloud computing allows enterprises to get their applications up and running faster,
with improved manageability and less maintenance, and that it enables IT teams to
more rapidly adjust resources to meet fluctuating and unpredictable demand. Cloud
providers typically use a "pay-as-you-go" model, which can lead to
unexpected operating expenses if administrators are not familiarized with cloud-
pricing models.
The availability of high-capacity networks, low-cost computers and storage devices as
well as the widespread adoption of hardware virtualization, service-oriented
architecture, and autonomicand utility computing has led to growth in cloud
computing.

  • 18. Big Data Big data refers to data sets that are too large or complex for traditional data- processing application software to adequately deal with. Data with many cases (rows) offer greater statistical power, while data with higher complexity (more attributes or columns) may lead to a higher false discovery rate. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating, information privacy and data source. Big data was originally associated with three key concepts: volume, variety, and velocity. Other concepts later attributed with big data are veracity (i.e., how much noise is in the data) and value. (wikipedia.org) ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology
  • 19. Big Data Big data refers to a process that is used when traditional data mining and handling techniques cannot uncover the insights and meaning of the underlying data. Data that is unstructured or time sensitive or simply very large cannot be processed by relational database engines. This type of data requires a different processing approach called big data, which uses massive parallelism on readily- available hardware. (www.techopedia.com)  Big data analytics for manufacturing applications is marketed as a "5C architecture" (connection, conversion, cyber, cognition, and configuration).  Factory work and Cyber-physical systems may have an extended "6C system": o Connection (sensor and networks) o Cloud (computing and data on demand) o Cyber (model and memory) o Content/context (meaning and correlation) o Community (sharing and collaboration) o Customization (personalization and value) (wikipedia.org) ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology

  • 28. Robot A robot is a machine—especially one programmable by a computer— capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically. Robots can be guided by an external control device or the control may be embedded within. Robots may be constructed to take on human form but most robots are machines designed to perform a task with no regard to how they look. (wikipedia.org) Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as Honda's Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility (ASIMO) and TOSY's TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot(TOPIO) to industrial robots, medical operating robots, patient assist robots, dog therapy robots, collectively programmed swarm robots, UAV drones such as General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and even microscopic nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or thought of its own. Autonomous things are expected to proliferate in the coming decade, with home robotics and the autonomous car as some of the main drivers. ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology

  • 31. AR & VR Virtual reality (VR) is an interactive computer-generated experience taking place within a simulated environment. It incorporates mainly auditory and visual feedback, but may also allow other types of sensory feedback like haptic. This immersive environment can be similar to the real world or it can be fantastical. Augmented reality systems may also be considered a form of VR that layers virtual information over a live camera feed into a headset or through a smartphone or tablet device giving the user the ability to view three- dimensional images. Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world are "augmented" by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory. The overlaid sensory information can be constructive (i.e. additive to the natural environment) or destructive (i.e. masking of the natural environment) and is seamlessly interwoven with the physical world such that it is perceived as an immersive aspect of the real environment. In this way, augmented reality alters one's ongoing perception of a real-world environment, whereas virtual reality completely replaces the user's real- world environment with a simulated one. Augmented reality is related to two largely synonymous terms: mixed reality and computer-mediated reality. figure: uploadvr.com Figure: www.engadget.com ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology
  • 32. 3D Printing 3D printing is any of various processes in which material is joined or solidified under computer control to create a three-dimensional object, with material being added together (such as liquid molecules or powder grains being fused together), typically layer by layer. In the 1990s, 3D printing techniques were considered suitable only for the production of functional or aesthetical prototypes and a more appropriate term was rapid prototyping. Today, the precision, repeatability and material range have increased to the point that 3D printing is considered as an industrial production technology, with the name of additive manufacturing. 3D printed objects can have a very complex shape or geometry and are always produced starting from a digital 3D model or a CAD file. There are many different 3D printing processes, that can be grouped into seven categories: o Vat photopolymerization o Material jetting o Binder jetting o Powder bed fusion o Material extrusion o Directed energy deposition o Sheet lamination (source: wikipedia.org) ajGoong ajarnSukanya Goong Ben © 2019 Digital Technology

  • 34. Cloud Computing Cloud computing makes computer system resources, especially storage and computing power, available on demand without direct active management by the user. The term is generally used to describe data centers available to many users over the Internet. Large clouds, predominant today, often have functions distributed over multiple locations from central servers. If the connection to the user is relatively close, it may be designated an Edge server. Clouds may be limited to a single organization (enterprise clouds,) be available to many organizations (public cloud,) or a combination of both (hybrid cloud.) The largest public cloud is Amazon AWS. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale. Advocates of public and hybrid clouds note that cloud computing allows companies to avoid or minimize up-front IT infrastructure costs. Proponents also claim that cloud computing allows enterprises to get their applications up and running faster, with improved manageability and less maintenance, and that it enables IT teams to more rapidly adjust resources to meet fluctuating and unpredictable demand. Cloud providers typically use a "pay-as-you-go" model, which can lead to unexpected operating expenses if administrators are not familiarized with cloud- pricing models. The availability of high-capacity networks, low-cost computers and storage devices as well as the widespread adoption of hardware virtualization, service-oriented architecture, and autonomicand utility computing has led to growth in cloud computing.
