Let’s start with the definition first
“Diagnostic test is a test that
design to diagnose specific
aspects of a language.
It also helps the teacher and
learner identify problems that
they have with the language.

Test takers are directed to read 150 words passage while they are tape recorded. The test
administrators then refers to an inventory of phonological for analizing a learner's production
Pronunciation test includes :

A. Stress on the wrong syllable

D. Failure to make smooth transition between words and syllables

How to do the test
When creating diagnostic tests, instructors should consider the
following :
1. What skills are to be assessed
2. Whether the assessment allows students to demonstrate mastery
of those skills
3. If every component of the skills accounted for in the assessment
4. If students can respond in a different way that expected and still
show mastery of the concepts, and
5. If the assessment is a test of the process or the
content(wormeli,2006)
