2. Bulgaria
Bulgaria, officially the Republic of
Bulgaria, is a country in southeastern
Europe. It is bordered by Romania to the
north, Serbia and Macedonia to the west,
Greece and Turkey to the south, and the
Black Sea to the east. With a territory of
110,994 square kilometers, Bulgaria is
Europe's 16th-largest country.

Bulgaria is a 13 century old country and its
name has not been changed during the ages.
The official language is Bulgarian and the
alphabet is Cyrillic. The currency is lev.
5. Simeon The Great
During Simeon's reign, Bulgaria reached its cultural
apogee, becoming the literary and spiritual centre of
Eastern Europe. In this respect, Simeon continued his
father Boris' policy of establishing and spreading
Bulgarian culture and attracting noted scholars and
writers within Bulgaria's borders. It was in the Preslav
Literary School and Ohrid Literary School, founded
under Boris, that the main literary work in Bulgaria
was concentrated during the reign of Simeon in the
new Cyrillic alphabet which was developed there.

Bulgaria is one of the biggest producers of
rose oil in the world. The Rose is the Symbol
of Bulgaria. Bulgarian roses are inheritors of
the so called Damascena rose and it was
brought to our lands during the 17th century.
The Rose valley of Bulgaria
includes Karlovo and Kazanlak fields with an
area of about 3,300 square kilometers -
extending more than 130 km along the Stara
Planina mountain, surrounded by two
mountains, which help create a specific
climate.
9. Every year, during the first weekend of June, local
community organizes the annual Festival of
Roses. Today the Rose Festival is an international
event, visited and enjoyed by thousands of tourists and
guests of Kazanlak.
12. Traditional Bulgarian dishes
Bulgarian cuisine is one of the most famous cuisines
on the Balkans . It is distinguished from the others
by the excellent taste of the meals and the
exceptional diversity. Bulgarians are very proud of
its cuisine due to the fact that the recipes are unique
and so old that they are passed down from
generation to generation for hundreds of years.
14. Shopska Salad
This typical Bulgarian salad is prepared of
chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers,
onions, fresh parsley, grated white cheese
and vegetable oil. The dish is served mainly
in the summer and combines very well with
chilled traditional Bulgarian spirits such as
rakia.

16. Traditional Bulgarian drinks
Bulgarians are happy people who have access to
various refreshing beverages, both non-alcoholic and
alcoholic ones. Some of these drinks are served pure,
others are mixed in various cocktails. Have a look at
the finest drinks that are typical for the country and
make sure you try them the next time you are in
Bulgaria.
17. Rakia
This is the most popular
spirit drink in Bulgaria. It is
a fruit brandy that can be
made from all kinds of
fermented fruits but it is
usually prepared of grapes,
plums, apricots and pears,
quinces and apples. Once
fermented, the fruits are
made in distilleries and then
the liquid is filtered.
18. Ayran
This is a healthy drink made of locally
produced yogurt that Bulgarians are
so proud of. The Bulgarian yogurt is
already quite popular outside the
country’s boundaries and is being
eaten in both liquid and thick form.
Ayran is made of an equal amount of
yogurt and milk, stirred with some
salt to taste. It is served chilled and is
very popular during the summer days
as it is quite refreshing.
19. Boza
Another thick beverage of oriental
origin, boza couldn’t be more
different than the previous item on
the list. Typically enjoyed for
breakfast together with a piece of
banitsa pastry, boza is a beverage
made of a boiled combination of
wheat, rye and/or millet, with
added sugar for the traditional
sweet taste.

Grigor Dimitrov is the most
famous Bulgarian tennis player.
Stefka Kostadinova is a Bulgarian
athlete who competed in the high
jump.

Bulgarian wrestler and
mixed martial artist.
Hristo Stoichkov is a former
Bulgarian footballer, who is
considered as the greatest in
our country.
22. John Atanasoff was a Bulgarian
physicist and inventor, best
known for inventing the first
computer.
Asen Yordanov was a
Bulgarian inventor, engineer
and aviator.
23. Vladimir Dimitrov – Maystora was a
Bulgarian artist, draughtsman
and teacher.
Christo Javacheff is a Bulgarian
painter, who creates
environmental works of art.

Bulgarian opera singer.
Boris Hristov was a
Bulgarian opera singer.
25. Berkovitsa
Berkovitsa is a town and ski resort in northwestern
Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of the
Berkovitsa Municipality, Montana Province. It has a
population of 13,917 inhabitants.
26. Berkovitsa is situated on the northern slope of Kom
Peak of the Berkovska Stara Planina Mountain along
the valley of the Berkovitsa River, at an altitude above
sea level 405 m.

first time in Ottoman
documents from
1488. The remains of
the fortress and a
church were
discovered on high
ground at Kaleto, just
to the west of the
present-day town.

31. Forestry Vocational High School
School’s characteristics - Forestry vocational high
school in Berkovitsa is one of the
oldest vocational schools in Bulgaria with 108- year
old history and traditions. It is the
only vocational school in the Municipality of
Berkovitsa. The professions and
specialties in which the students are taught are
singular in northwestern Bulgaria - for
the districts Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Sofia,
Kyustendil, Pernik.

professions are studied:
“Engineer Forester” for specialties “Forestry and
hunting” with teaching in English.
