3. TRADE PARTNER IDEAL
Trade between Extremadura and China has increased significantly in recent years. Extremadura's
exports to China have maintained a compound annual growth rate of 20.9% (2009-2013).
The value of the exports has tripled since 2009, standing at 9.74 million euros.
75 companies from Extremadura exported to China in 2013 (29.3% more than in 2012), of which
18 export on a regular basis.
The most dynamic sectors are textiles (61%) and quality food (23%).
Olive oil: Exports from Extremadura to the Chinese market reached in 2013 the value of 390 000
euros, 36% more than the previous year.
Imports have also behaved favourably maintaining a compound growth rate of 6.9% (2009-2013),
reaching 53.6 million euros.
Manufacturing industry, the most dynamic sector. It accounts for 97% of the total imports from

Due to the Agrotech Project promoted by the Regional Government, Extremadura is developing all its
potential to become an international reference in the field of natural resources use. Agrotech is looking
to reach the excellence of Extremadura in the agri-food and agro-industry, re-inventing the traditional
sectors to make even better what we already do well.
Extremadura accounts for 8.1% of the Spanish territory and stores 25% of the
freshwater of the country.

2.193,84 MW, while the mini hydro-electrical plants have installed a capacity of 25,2 MW.

Agro innovation
Euronuts is a project lead by PepsiCo to grow peanuts on a large scale for the first time in
Europe.
Biomass cultivation and pioneer energy facilities
Ence, Energía y Celulosa, is the first European company in terms of production of eucalyptus
pulps and it is leader in Spain in the generation of forest biomass for renewable energy
production.
The renewable electricity generation plant from biomass has an installed capacity of 20MW.
Acciona SA, is a Spanish conglomerate group dedicated to civil engineering, infrastructures
and energy production from renewable resources.
Acciona has built a plant to convert biomass in the town of Miajadas with an installed
capacity of 16MW.

Vegenat is a company involved with the sector of clinical nutrition. Innovation is its strategy
and its products are present in over 40 countries.

scientific research, to protection and conservation of pasture and the promotion of areas

HEALTH
A multidisciplinary institution devoted to research and innovation in health sciences. The
centre has large experience in transnational research and covers several fields of expertise.
JUMISC acts as a specialized Contract Research Organization focused on “in vivo”
preclinical services for the pharmaceutical, medical devices and biotechnology industries.
A unique medical software, developed in Extremadura,
that integrates the healthcare management
information in a user-friendly way. It has the structures
to collect, elaborate, analyse and transmit all the
necessary information to organize and run the health
services efficiently.
Extremadura is a start-up region since it
has the best environment for the
entrepreneurs to develop.
OTHER KEY PARTNERSHIPS
An agreement with Microsoft was signed to enhance the productivity and
competitiveness of companies in the region. This Agreement includes the
creation of an “innovation lab”, a centre of innovation for entrepreneurs,
SMEs and the education community. Microsoft will provide the access to
BizSpark programme to entrepreneurs and technology-based new
companies.
Extremadura and the Enterprise Forum Global (MITEF) foundation, under the
Massachusetts Institute of Technology, signed a collaboration agreement
with the aim to promote innovation and the tech based start-ups in the
region.

8. CULTURE
A N DTOURISM
The Heritage Cities of Extremadura, Mérida and Cáceres,
have signed an agreement to adequate its tourist offer to
the Chinese tourism with the council of Chinese Friendly.
Nature, historical heritage, art, gastronomy and tradition
have come together in Extremadura. Its three enclaves,
declared World Heritage by the UNESCO, make this region
a true open-air museum.
Historical and Cultural Heritage
Cáceres. The old town of Cáceres is one of the most
complete and better conserved European medieval towns.
It consists of buildings from the Middle Age and the
Renaissance.
Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe: Facing the
Plaza Mayor (main square), from the top of the stairs, the
beautiful Gothic façade of the church of the sanctuary
dominates de city.
Mérida, founded in 25 B. C. by Roman Emperor Octavio
Augusto. The grandiosity of its archaeological ensemble
makes it one of the most important and extensive in
Europe.
One destination, two countries
The Spanish city of Badajoz, in the border with Portugal, is
the point of entry to neighbouring country. Portugal offers
a great number of tourist attractions: a delicious cuisine,
the hospitality of its people and two cities that are World
Heritage Sites (Elvas, at 15 km, and Évora, at 90 km).
