Watching the “Angry Eyes” exercise, I felt a bit puzzled and wanting to ask more
questions. I felt like this exercise was a very good exercise to show people of non-minority how
it feels to be treated as a minority. Yet, I felt like this exercise had a focal point of only showing
white people how other races are treated. I understand we live in a world where most of the
racism in this world is either caused by white people or is promoted by white people. Yet, I feel
like there are situations where the tables are flipped. White people can be discriminated against
just the as a minority. I understand the point of the exercise is to tackle racism, but I feel like it
has to be tackled from all angles. Being white does not give me the power to discriminate against
someone of a different race, nor does someone with a different race give them the right to treat
me badly either. The ignorance of the world is racism. People will always think they are better
than someone else, because of little details or big details. Things such as race and economic
status are big detail people with discriminate about. Little details such as the clothes a person
wears or the color of their eyes can be something that people do not like and will discriminate
against.
I would also love to ask this women so many questions about this exercise. I want to
know why and how she created it. I feel like she has taken historic events in the world and used
what happened as ways to influence the exercise. I feel like in a way this exercise can be
torturous to the mind of the people being discriminated against in the exercise. I understand that
it is just a learning exercise and no one is really supposed to take everything so seriously. Yet
some people go through the exercise in real life, everyday. that is a sad sentence to type but it is
true. I was always raised that no matter what race a person is they deserve to be treated just as I
would want to be treated. I believe in that statement more than most people believe in God in this
world.
