OF 3Fs

HAVE YOU WONDERED WHYHAVE YOU WONDERED WHY
• your classroom is rowdy and you find it difficult to control?
• a child who has been enjoy going to school suddenly develop the
habit of crying when it is time to go to school or if he is a bit
older, he/she tells the parent, ‘Mummy, I don’t like that school
again’?
• a withdrawn and reserved child do not want to come out his
shell?
• you may have to psyche unwilling learners to develop aptitude to
learning?EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
THE 3Fs are:
1.
Friendly2. Fair 3. Firm
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
THE 3Fs:THE 3Fs:
• Be Friendly, (with the learners), be Fair (with the
learners), BUT Firm (with the learners too).
• Not been able to strike a balance among these Fs
causes a lot of hiccups not only to the class
manager, i.e. teacher, but also affect the institution
as a whole. As said earlier, it can lead to a drop in the
school’s numerical strength; make learners to lose
interest in learning, etc.
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
Be FRIENDLY with LearnersBe FRIENDLY with Learners
To be FRIENDLY means:
1.To be passionate
2.To be warm and kindly
3.To be approachable and sociable
4.To be concerned
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
Be FAIR with Learners
To be FAIR means:
1.To be impartial among them [i.e. treat
all learners equally]
2.To keep no sacred cow
3.To give equal attention
4.To make all favourites
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
But be FIRM with Learners
To be FIRM means:
1.Possess good crisis management
2.To ensure compliance to rules and
regulations
3.Not to say what you do not mean.
4.To recompense due punishment to
misconduct
NOT Friendly and NOT Fair BUT FirmNOT Friendly and NOT Fair BUT Firm..
• Teacher becomes dictatorial, hasty in decision-making
and biased, and his/her learners would always be
unresponsive and indifferent and feel tormented in
class.
• In this kind of classroom environment, learners
become fretful, not free in mind and fidgety of coming
to school. Learner despises coming to the school they
were once eager to go.
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
Friendly, BUT NEITHER Fair NOR Firm .Friendly, BUT NEITHER Fair NOR Firm .
• The teacher is approachable and sociable but partial and exhibits a
high level of favouritism. He/She becomes a laughing stock
because of non-firmness. The learners break into factions because
he/she is approachable but gives selective attention.
• Children become uncontrollable, over-playful, unruly and without
regard for him/her while the classroom environment may become
busy-achieving-nothing. Also, there is so much excesses among
the learners because the teacher is unfair to some while some are
favourites. The tendency of defiance is high.
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
Friendly and Fair BUT NOT FirmFriendly and Fair BUT NOT Firm..
• Though the teacher is not partial and is a friend to
learners– they too are free towards him/her. Teacher is
seen as approachable. But most of the children would
take the friendliness and fairness for granted, his/her
words do not hold water; his/her opinion is not
respected; her instruction not been carried out. Hence
the classroom environment would always be out of
control, disorderly, disorganized and less productive.
EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
Friendly and Fair BUT firm.
•This is the ideal management principle that
keeps a good hold on the classroom. They
feel a sense of control, they feel committed
to the work cause yet they know their limits
and bounds. They respect and obey the
teacher. The teacher is loved yet feared. The
class is very productive.EDU-NORMS CONSULTINGEDU-NORMS CONSULTING
