The month of December is a month of celebration,
chilly winter nights, hot cocoa and a book by your
side, I don’t think it gets better than that; but that’s just
my opinion! For a few others, this could be boring or
monotonous, something they can do anytime they want!
Hence, partying away to glory, maybe their way to ending
the year, do it on a high note, literally!
Year endings are also the best time to travel, as it is the
holiday season, and the season of cheer and joy! So, this
month the cover story is a travel piece on CAPE VERDE,
the beautiful Island country in Africa! The pristine, sun-
kissed beaches and the clear blue waters will surely make
you plan a trip there at the earliest!
Another place you can visit this holiday season is the town
of Český Krumlov, in the Czech Republic! This beautiful
town looks like a set straight out a Viking or Hobbit movie, untouched by the madness of
modernisation! It is on my must visit list right on top, cannot wait to get there!
Food is an essential part of travel, and a good meal is always remembered, and this month,
in the food section CARIZ brings to you the good news of the reopening of Le Kebabiere in
Pune, the restaurant that brings authentic Indian Cuisine in a contemporary format! Every dish
served here is a feast for your taste buds, displaying the passion of Chef Shailendra Kekade.
Bon Appétit!

Cape Verde
Where the sun shines through the year!
By Heena Grover Menon
Cape Verde
Located off the northwest coast of Africa, the
island country of Cape Verde is archipelago
of 10 islands and boasts of its own unique
atmosphere that can entice any traveller. With
a combination of a Portuguese and African
influences, top rated attractions, listings on
the UNESCO World Heritage list, beautiful
beaches, surf breaks, fantastic scenery and a lot
of sun, Cape Verde is a perfect dream holiday
destination, which is still unknown to many
globe trotters including Indian travellers. At a
distance of merely six-hour flight from Western
Europe, this heaven on earth is also steeped
in culture and history with many tours and
attractions offering an insight into the local
traditions.
Among one of the most popular islands of this
beautiful country, Sal was the first to attract
tourists from around the globe with the opening
of an international airport back in 1948.
Sal Island is the quintessential part of Cape
Verde’s controlled development programme with
billions of Euros of international investment
into hotels, resorts, marinas, water parks and
commercial centres. The active government of
Cape Verde in its continuous effort to make
the country an unmatched travel destination is
majorly investing in Sal.
There are regular scheduled flights to Sal’s
established international airport direct from
Birmingham, Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol
as well as all over Europe, Turkey, and Middle
East. The charming town of Santa Maria in the
south of Sal, is the main tourist attraction that
enjoys eight kilometres of stunning beaches,
gastronomical cafes and restaurants as well as
shopping attractions. Other highlights include
the town of Espargos in the centre of the Island,
the salt flats of Pedra de Lume on the east coast
and the port town of Palmeira on the western
side of the Island.

peaceful haven for total relaxation, as are the 286 luxurious suites, apartments
and villas situated inside the property.
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 13
MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort
Situated at the beautiful sun-drenched location of Sal and close to the pretty town of Santa
Maria, MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort offers a mix of smart hotel suites, airy apartments and
luxury villas complete with their own pools and private gardens. An all-inclusive 5-star
resort, it brings you an exhilarating choice of fine-dining and buffet restaurants, bars, and an

Awards for delivering exceptional levels of service and world-class facilities to its guests.
MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa had the great honour of receiving the First Lady of the
United States, Michelle Obama in July. The First Lady along with her daughters, Malia and
Sasha, visited Sal as a part of her ‘Let Girls Learn initiative’ tour of West Africa, to speak
about women’s education as part o . She was at Cape Verde for a cause but she still took
some time off from her tight schedule to exchange a few candid talks with the staff including
the manager of MELIÃ Dunas Beach Resort & Spa, Jose Cuevas, who commented that he
“found her to be a very charismatic, friendly and down to earth person”. He was also lucky
enough to get a picture with the First Lady, along with Founder and CEO of The Resort
Group PLC, Rob Jarrett.
Th Resort Group PLC was also among the top names to be featured in ‘The Queen at 90’, the
official commemorative publication for The Queen’s 90th Birthday Celebration. The only
publication sanctioned and endorsed by organisers of the Windsor Castle event, which was
held12 May - until 15 May 2016.
Sal (Salt in Portuguese)
One of the rare sea destinations where one can find sunshine all year-round, breathtaking
white sandy beaches, clear blue sea and world-class facilities for tourists, Sal is a perfect surf,
dive and sunny destination. It’s also an ideal island to relax and to use as a starting point
to explore other islands of Cape Verde. Sal is the most flat island of Cape Verde and is 30
kilometre long and about 12 kilometre wide. The landscape consists of brown rock slabs and
desert sand coming by wind from the mainland from the Sahara.
Attractions
Buracona: One of the major attractions of Sal is Buracona in the northwest of the island
where you can admire the ‘blue eye’. On the coast are black volcanic rocks with a big hole
towards the sea. As the sun shines on the correct height, the light reflects on at the azure sea.
This colour is so bright blue, hence the name ‘blue eye’. If you are in the area you can also
have a swim nearby natural pools (shielded by rocks).
Pedra de Lume: ever wondered how it feels to be able to float and not sink? Pedra de Lume
is an old volcano crater that serves as a beautiful lake with salt pans. In the salt pans you can
swim and stay afloat, thanks to the high content of salt. The salt pans are on the nomination
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 15
list of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Beaches of Santa Maria: About 3 kilometres of perfect wide and sandy white beaches,
combining an azure sea that has a pleasant temperature, this is an ideal place to relax. It
is also one of the most beautiful beaches of Cape Verde.
Diving: There are plenty of dive sites where even some nice old shipwrecks are found.
At only 11 meters there is a ship wreck complete can be seen where with colourful fish
are found. The reefs and caves can be visited via the local diving centre.
Boavista
Boavista is situated approximately 50 kilometres off Sal and is the third largest island of
Cape Verde. The almost flat island has a good 55 kilometres of white sandy beaches and
is known for its white sands with small oasis with palm trees. Ideal for a relaxed beach
outing, windsurfing, diving to spot shipwrecks or whales watching, there’s nothing that
you won’t find in this gorgeous beach destination.
Attractions
Viana desert: A place you must see is the only sand desert of Cape Verde. Consisting
of hills and fine white sand to form a chain as far as you can see. It gives you a unique
experience of Cape Verde.
Wetlands: With the drought and many sand dunes, it is unique to have one of the
largest wetlands of Micronesia (all volcanic islands immediately west of Africa). This
unique ecosystem is home to many unusual birds that come from Europe and West
Africa.
Whales: The gigantic mammal regularly chooses Bay Sal Rei to give birth to their
young. The Humpback Whale comes in the period from December to the sea at
Boavista. The best time to see a whale, however, is between March and June, when the
born humpback whales stay in more shallow water.
Turtles: Boavista is one of the most important places in the world where the Caretta
Caretta turtle lays its eggs. Thousands of turtles are nesting on Boavista, primarily at
the east coast of the island. In mid-June to late October, the turtles come to the beach to
lay eggs. Between late August and December, the young turtles are born and go towards
the sea. Seeing a turtle is almost guaranteed with more than 20,000 nests.

he commands among his peers at the Hotel. Poised, graceful,
effervescent and an admirable Team Leader are a few words
that aptly describe him. Read on to know more about this

CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 21
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a people’s person. Always have been.
That’s how I chose Hospitality as a career. My
objective in my work life has always been to
create experiences for guests as well as the
team that I work with. Choosing to work
with Hyatt Hotels has been one of the best
decisions I have ever made and I have been
fortunate to have been with this brand for 14
years.
What does being the GM of Hyatt mean to
you?
A dream come true.Being in the hospitality
industry is a tough job; each day comes with
its own challenges, any that you faced?
Dividing equal time between guests,
associates and family become challenging
at times. Prioritising one over the other is a
constant juggling game.
Pleasing your clients can sometimes be a
tough job, one incident where you can say you
achieved the impossible.
A male guest staying with us for the first time
was not happy with the food he was served.
I met him during the stay and asked for his
food preferences. All his meals post that were
personalised and he felt very well taken care
of. After leaving he sent me a friend request
on Facebook and the relationship evolved into
him choosing Hyatt Pune Kalyani Nagar as his
address while in the city each time.
You just complimented one of your wait staff,
are you someone who exhorts and builds up
or someone who is a strict boss?
I always push people to test their limits and
they end up discovering their true potential.
I know it isn’t fair to ask a
parent to pick, but, which
one is your favourite
restaurant in the hotel?
Yes, it is a difficult choice
however if I were to pick
one it would be Baan Tao as
the cuisine is my personal
favourite.
Are you someone who
believes in doing things the
right way or would you do
the right things even if the
way is wrong?
I believe, if you do things
right, as it ends up being the
right thing.
One quality you look for
in your team members/
employees.
One quality I admire in
people I work with is,
‘CARE’. Not just for guests
but also for the property,
brand and most of all, each
other. This also mirrors the
Purpose of Hyatt – We care
for people so they can be
their best.
A good leader is the best teacher, do you agree?
I agree, however, a leader becomes a good teacher only when he is a good student as well.
What is it that you look for in a restaurant/hotel, when dining out/staying in?
Being in the hospitality industry for 14 years, I have been to many restaurants across the globe.
The places that have left an impression on me are the ones that not only had good food and
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 23
ambience but also had team members who
addressed every opportunity to comfort
the individual needs of a guest.
How do you find Pune?
I am positively in love with this city, I am
especially fond of the weather, greenery
and people.
The best compliment you have received.
I became a General Manager of a hotel at
33 years of age. Once while visiting a travel
agent during a sales call with a colleague
I was asked when was the hotel General
Manager joining the meeting? After he
realised he said I was the youngest General
Manager he had ever seen and hence asked
the question.
Something that puts a smile on your face
(could be a personal thing too)?
Meeting a happy guest / employee first
thing in the morning.
One thing that upsets you/makes you
unhappy?
We all make mistakes but when people
cover them up with false stories instead of
owning up and learning, it really makes me
unhappy.
Who inspires You?
M S Dhoni
What’s next?
Hyatt Pune Kalyani Nagar has had three
successful years. I am new to Pune and
plan to engage more with the people of
Pune to take the hotel to greater heights.
Your strength and weakness?
Strength – my ability to connect quickly
with people.
Weakness – oversensitivity that is a result
of connecting with people.
You are a very well styled person, who
picks your clothes?
I pick my own clothes.
Your Favourite Cuisine?
Vietnamese and Cambodian
Favourite movie?
Spiderman – for its dialogue, “Remember,
with great power comes great
responsibility.
Favourite actor?
Deepika Padukone
Your favourite car?
BMW
Favourite perfume?

The Cornerstone of Café Culture!
Sipping
and
Flipping

the
pages..!
So, I was sifting through the seminal work
of Amartya Sen on a hot Sunday Mumbai
morning. As I had just started reading through
his magnum opus, ‘The Argumentative
Indian’, a volley of thoughts and references
started wafting through my head.
Such is the compelling nature of his works.
Even an average mortal like me was forced to
deliberate over matters that transcend time and
space. Mr Sen opens this book with an essay
on Voice and heterodoxy and how it has been
an integral part of the Indian way of life. To his
understanding, the mythological stories from
Indian myths and scriptures are analogous with
the culture of debate prevalent in the Indian
society. Or so has it been till now. Because now,
the omnipotence
of discussions and
deliberations is
replaced by the
phenomenal rise of
social media.
It is sheer
providence that
while I had almost
formed an opinion
on this current in
the society, I realised I was sitting in one of the
iconic Irani cafes of this city. Irani Cafes have
been the vestibule of proxy conversations and
heated debates since Mumbai has known to
conduct its business better this way.
These cafes have been identified with leisure
time chatter, which could range from
international relations to the stiffness of the
dough in the ‘bun maska paav.’ Such has been
the historical standing of these cafes that they
adorn the most iconic corners of the city. These
sanctified chambers, where one could endlessly
explore opinion and dissect matters have now
assumed the role of a foster child abandoned
by its own masters.
One is forced to ruminate over this apparent
decadence in culture.
These shining beacons
of our glorious past have
been sacrificed at the
altar of time or the lack
of it.
The aftermath of
globalisation and the
meteoric rise of Mumbai
as the financial national
hub has not sided well
Rohan Dange

CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 25
with the ethos of a languid culture. Languid,
I dare say because it is reminiscent of a past
ornamented with the drawl of constant chatter
with faint regard for time.
Instead, what we are witnessing today is the
onslaught of social media. It is convenient, to
simplify matters. And it is perfect via social
media to vent out our pent up rage. The
absolute lack of time and a strong urge for
validation finds its voice in an ugly manner
in the virtual space. It is either black or white
. Grey areas have become a thing of the past,
whose utility is antiquated just as our ‘kaali
peelis’ . As the taxis of our recent past are
coming to a screeching halt so is our power to
reason and rationalise.
Leisure time is dedicated to the consumption of
unfounded media reports propped by zealots
of the fourth estate as if it was the cardinal
truth. Our beloved Irani Cafes have been
thus relegated to the background and quite
obviously so. The honourable mentions that
they receive are in the realms of Listicles and
itinerary of foreign travellers.
Yes, they are known for their culinary merit as
well. But the associated culture of these cafes
does not find a resonance with the youth of
today. Is it a collective dumbing of the masses
or is the Darwinian principle, imposingly
reiterating itself?
The answer may be traced back to the growing
clamour for wealth, wherein we are readily
giving away cherished possessions. As if it was
a monthly ritual to dispose of the newspaper
in the name of ‘raddi.’ What is more, baffling
is our desire for monologues, where Tweets
and Facebook posts have become our allies
in fomenting hatred and spouting venom.
The new face of socialising!
The idea of a debate in today’s world!
Are we the “smart phone and dumb people generation?”
And at every instance of a
contrarian thought craning
its neck out, technology
allows us to block it or even
worse troll it!! It’s almost
akin to a Shakespearean
tragedy while one can
only watch with disbelief
the carnage that keyboard
warriors can unfurl with
gay abandon. Never mind
the constant cyber bullying.
As I was putting out my
third Marlboro of the
evening I was forced to
draw an analogy with the
‘adda’ culture of Kolkata. The informal discussions that the city breathes in and it’s everyday
literary razzmatazz. How is it that a sister city in terms of size and proportions has not
succumbed to the lure of modern day social mores. To a large extent it may have, but it has
yet been able to catalyse the art of discussion and debate in a subtle way. And then I had an
epiphany. The divergence is certainly because
of political philosophies. Mumbai is the
shining beacon of capitalism while Kolkata is
at the vanguard of soft culture and the finer
nuances of life. One is a financial daredevil
while the other one is a champion of the
Renaissance.
How could I miss the obvious?
One could not fault Mumbai for letting the
Irani Cafe, charm fade away. In fact, it’s an
achievement that the regal splendour of our
old warhorses continues to occupy our mental
bandwidth. We can grin and bear it. But the
substitutes that we have adopted are far more
dangerous than the utility of having coffee
and lashing at each other in broad daylight.
The juxtaposition of social media with these
cafes is a strange alliance. And will the twain
ever meet? In my limited understanding, never. But until we cultivate etiquette, we always
have the old rustic charm of these Cafes to fall back on. As long as the patrons can withstand
the modern day pressures to hang out at swish clubs, it is victory enough. ‘Bun Maska’ with
some dose of pseudo-intellectual pitter-patter still has enough seductive power to magnetise
outliers, to take refuge in these halls of pure understated opulence.

Fashion
Whether you take a trip to South-East Asia or
relax in the Bahamas or wander through the lanes
of Spain, there is one thing that you need to get
right and that is fashion. Here are some pointers,
which would help you get your fashion score just
right no matter, which part of the world you are
in.
- Chic Hat – A Chic Hat to help you stay
protected from the sun and make a style
statement, which can never go wrong.
- Sunnies – The classic Rayban Wayfarers are
the best option for sunglasses when you are
travelling. Reason being that it folds into half,
giving a perfect compact size for slipping into just
about anything
- Footwear – For a wanderer, a comfortable pair
of sneakers are just fine, but if you want a little
variation in your style a pair of simple but chic
flats is a good choice.
- Large Tote – While on the go, you might
have to cut down on the accessories that would
want to carry so a large tote bag offers a lot of
convenience by storing all your skin care and
daily essentials at one place.
- Dark Jeans – Instead of light shaded denim,
opt for a darker shade, it is suitable for travelling
as it wouldn’t get as dirty as a light coloured one.
- LBD (Little Black Dress) – This is one fad that
has never faded over time and you can never go
wrong with the little black dress. So, when out on
a trip don’t forget to carry one, just in case.
- Maxi Dresses – simple yet chic and these
never fail to make the right impressions. Along
with your basic tanks & tees make space for some
good maxi dresses. Pick up a perfect size and
pattern for yourself and you are good to go
.
- Cardigan – You cannot miss a cardigan if you
are going to take a trip in the winters. Pair it with
denim or use a longer cardigan to add that extra
layer with your maxi dress, anything works!

The Global Citizen Festival
MUMBAI, 19 November 2016 –
On Saturday 19 November, the
Global Citizen Festival India
took place for the first time at
the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra-

World and business leaders,

achieving the Sustainable Development

gender equality, education and water &

The Festival began with the Prime

Dubai, Nina continues to collaborate with global beauty
brands. Apart from workshops, she showcases the latest
beauty trends, services and products via her blog which is
extremely popular.
Here’s getting up, close and personal with the one, well
known for her bespoke contouring skills and much
more...
Q) Your tryst with fame and being referred to as the
‘Eyebrow & Contour Queen’, how did the journey
start?
I was 15 when I scouted as a model for a magazine.
After a brief stint, I realised that I was more
comfortable being behind the scenes rather than
being on stage. I would instinctively know what
shades would work rather than what the artist would
suggest. Soon after finishing my education, I decided
to pursue a career in makeup artistry instead of
going to University. I also started working as a
make-up artist for Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden
and Kanebo. Simultaneously, I learnt the basics of
photography, lighting, photoshop and creative art
direction. Since then, there has been no looking
back.
Q) Where do you get your inspiration from?
Every face is different and my style changes
depending on the person and the occasion. I
never go by the typical pre-conceived notions. It’s
something that just comes naturally to me and I love
being distinct.
Q) What’s your magic mantra for that perfect look?
Never cut corners, your movements should be slow
so that you don’t rush the application and blending.
Q) What is the most common make-up mistake that
people make?
It’s probably not enough of blending in the shades.
The application and blending should be completely
separate if you are a make-up amateur.
Q) What are the must haves for any dressing table?
Make-Up Forever Ultra HD Concealer, Tom Ford
Skin Illuminating powder duo and Anastasia
Beverly Hills Dipbrow. Nina Ubhi
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 39
Q) What’s the most
important factor in
deciding the final
look?
It all depends on
how the colours suit
your skin tone. If
the colours you use
are too close to your
natural skin colour
then you won’t have
much depth to the
overall look. Certain
colours stand out
on the skin tone and
it’s usually the lip
colour.
Q) Your favourite
and often used make-
up technique?
Smoky eyes are my favourite.
I love creating this look on
people as it’s actually quite easy
when you learn the basics. It
can also be a really subtle look
in comparison to the liner look,
depending on how smoky you
make it.
Q) A winter-make-up tip for our
readers?
A deep red lip will really vamp it
up for the winter weather. What
I love about winter is you can get
away with more makeup!
Q) Amongst the celebs, who is
the one person you would love to
makeover?
I would love to work on
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!
Q) Your relaxation mantra?
A spa day! Since work keeps me
on my toes shuttling between
UK, Dubai and India, sometimes
I’m in and out of countries in one
day for VIP clients so the one
place I tend to relax is in the spa.
Q) What’s your forte other than
make-up artistry?
Other than make-up artistry,
I love baking and cooking! If I
wasn’t a make-up artist I would
definitely be baking for a living! I
find it so therapeutic.
Q) What is the one thing that you
love doing the most?
I love catching up with tv series
and also spending time with my
husband Bobby, who is also my
best friend and business partner!
We love eating out and watching
movies. Spending time with my
husband is what I look forward to and love the most.
Q) How did passion for beauty lead you to write?
I was approached by a leading wedding magazine in the UK when I started sharing my knowledge, expertise
and experience. (She is, a Beauty Columnist with a huge portfolio of Beauty Articles published in various
magazines. As her role as Beauty Editor for UK publications; Asian Woman Magazine and Asian Bride
Magazine she has countless beauty
shoots within the leading magazine Asiana Wedding. Her work has graced numerous magazine covers in the
UK. Nina’s UK business; Nina Ubhi Beauty & Hair Institute is linked to numerous luxury high end brands
in the UK. Nina’s company was the official catwalk sponsor for the UK’s largest Asian Bridal Show and
Exhibition 2015 in Mayfair, London.
Q) Other than make-up and beauty, what is the next best thing closest to your heart?
It’s travelling and baking! Due to the nature of my work, I travel quite a bit. I love baking desserts and cooking,
although I find little time to do so.
Nina was selected to judge the Viva Beauty Awards 2016 alongside Mona Kattan and Sheida
Babareza. She was also nominated as the Ultimate Vlogger for the Cosmo Awards 2016. Nina
has been actively involved in campaigns for Etihad Airways, Reiss and has recently had her
work grace the cover of Harpers Bazaar Junior as well as a bespoke shoot at the Royal Suite in
The Atlantis The Palm printed in the Harpers Bazaar.

Cesky Krumlov - the hidden paradise!
“Get mesmerized, reading
this travel piece on Cesky
Krumlov, as our Features
Editor, Sonia Malani, takes you
on a magical tour!”
By Sonia Malani
Features Editor
sonia@carizmagazine.com
We stayed at the lovely Krumlov House, which
is a 400 plus year old ancient house, converted
to a hostel. Wooden attic spaces, skylights, and
extremely warm and helpful owners who handed
us the cutest hand drawn doodled map with their
recommendations – I’m positive we couldn’t have
chosen a better place to spend the night at.
Cesky Krumlov is a gorgeous
little town in the Czech
Republic, which takes you
back in time to the 14th Century
with its gothic old world charm.
Listed as a UNESCO World
Heritage centre, it is straight
out of a fairytale with its narrow
cobbled streets, a castle, riverside
restaurants and centuries old
medieval taverns. The place is
bathed in historic remnants from
the middle ages and I would
highly recommend it to everyone
who is traveling to Prague – best
thing, it is only a 3-hour bus ride
away.
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 43
While Cesky, can
easily be explored in
a day’s excursion on
foot, take your time
strolling around
leisurely and getting
lost in its labyrinths.
Whether you have
just a day or more
in Cesky Krumlov,
here is what you
should do and see,
while you are there:
The Castle – The
castle ground
consists of 40
buildings and by
the time you have
explored the main
Castle, its tall tower,
baroque theatre and
the wide stretching gardens, you might feel your feet burn, but the long walk is absolutely worth
every step. The 360-degree view from the Castle tower with the river Vltava intertwining this
red-roofed beauty is absolutely breath taking.
River tour – If you
visit during the summ
er, you can rent a raft
(try the old-fashioned
wooden raft) or a
canoe or kayak and
float down the VItava
River. It also offers
white water rafting
through its rapids and
waterfalls and has
tiny bars along the
riverside where you
can kick back and sip
on a Mojito.
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 45
Czech cuisine – Make sure to
indulge in some traditional cuisine
from the medieval ages, at one
of the many restaurants by the
river. We discovered a restaurant
called Laibon, which not only
served fantastic healthy food with
a great view, but also was complete
vegetarian – a rare find.
Old Town – We visited
Cesky around Easter and the
old town was teeming with
locals and tourists flocking
the weekend market. From
the choicest lavender to
cheese to homemade desserts
and of course the Trdelnik,
this tiny town square had
it all. (Trdelnik is a must
try traditional Czech pastry
with a caramelized coating of
butter and cinnamon sugar,
and it melts in your mouth
deliciously!) You could also
just hang out at the fountain
in the middle of the town
square and take a minute to
marvel at the renaissance
architecture all around you.

your inclination and

dozens of museums,

Museum Fotoatelier

a photography
enthusiast, the
Marionette Museum,
dedicated to puppetry
and Marionettes
and the Regional
Museum, which
houses a collection of
about 34000 objects
including antiques
and archaeological
finds.
Boutique shops – There are tons of little shops in the alleys, and you’ll be tempted to stick your head
into each pretty window and check the knick-knacks and local products it has to offer.
My recommendations
would be to try the dark
chocolate at Bon Bon
(absolute heaven) and
shop at Botanicus with
its handmade soaps,
essential oils and candles,
which had me burn a hole
in my pocket but with
tremendous satisfaction.

CELEBRATING THE
DEPTH OF THE
PAN-INDIAN
CUISINE
“The time’s they are a changing”, as the song by the unconventional
Nobel laureate, Bob Dylan goes, and it couldn’t be truer - now more
than ever. In the last month India has turned upside down - and
in times like these, there’s really only one thing that soothes the
sleepless, anxious soul - the warm comfort of a good Indian meal.
And to the occasion, Le Kebabiere rises once again, in Koregaon
Park, Pune.
Nawabi Seekh Kebab
Shahi Shikampur
Until recently, Le Kebabiere was
Pune’s only standalone restaurant
serving authentic Indian cuisine in a
contemporary format. And now after a
brief hiatus, the heritage Indian cuisine
restaurant has reopened, resplendent with
its mystical flavours and enigmatic aromas
with all of the elements that made it a
favourite, and some delectable additions
for the world we’re in today.
Notably, the restaurant has opened right
where it was - a visit to the 65 seater space
is reminiscent of a trip down the rabbit

hole and into a magnificent, unrushed afternoon of great hospitality in vintage India, with hand-
carved walls, handmade stone ware, grand tables and even more opulent seating, peppered with
exquisite filigree work that adorns the lamps across this 1500 square foot space.
The decor recreates and captures an era gone by. The menu however, not just revives tastes and

flavours from that
time, but breathes
new life into it with
a modernist spin on
heritage fare.
“We’re glad to
provide a platform
to explore the fare of
the subcontinent in
a refreshing format
and a contemporary
space,” says Riyaaz
Amlani, C.E.O. & MD,
Impresario Handmade
Restaurants (parent
company of Le
Kebabiere). “With Le
Kebabiere, we want to reintroduce Puneites to the nuances of a perfectly done Kebab, a well made
Curry and a fragrant succulent Biryani.”
The new menu pays homage to its predecessor’s passion for Kebabs - the selection of over 30 varieties
has been expanded to introduce more nuanced flavours that appeal to both vegetarian and non-

vegetarian palettes.
In addition, the
menu breaks
new ground in
its selection of
vegetarian and non-
vegetarian curries.
Surely, you’ve heard
and tasted many
of the restaurants
erstwhile selection,
but the new entrees
are well worth the
visit - best illustrated
by contemporary
Indian dishes like
the Blue Cheese
Bacon Kulcha and
the Wasabi Paneer
Kulcha. Of course,
the classics remain
untouched by
time, with options

of aperitifs, soups and biryanis to round off your meal while letting you feel light as air.
But for the purists, there are also curries like Subz E Bahaar Kashmiri, Lasooni Pyaaz Hari
Mirch Salaan, Daal Makhani, Murgh Hara Pyaaz, Kheema Mutter, Nalli Nihari and Konkani
Kombdi Sukka.

“With a resurgence in the love
of Indian heritage cuisine,
we’re pleased to be re-opening
Le Kebabiere’s kitchens,” says
Chef Shailendra Kekade. “Each
dish on the menu is designed
to transport patrons back in
time to a world of unrushed
indulgences, of course keeping
in mind the fact that patrons
should relish the flavour but yet
not feel heavy after the meal. We
do hope Punekars fall in love
with our brand new menu, all
over again.”
To aid the process, Le Kebabiere
plays home to a unique Appam
Jalebi Caviar
Benarasi Paan Masala
and Kulcha bar, with an expansive selection
of gravies to choose from. Appams will be
prepared and served right by a patrons table on
a Gueridon Trolley, another throwback to an era
gone by.
Also, let’s not forget the dessert menu that’s
undergone a complete transformation, bound to
delight tastebuds with tastes as unique as the Fal

Impeccable hospitality will ensure your meal
progresses at the pace you desire. Stay for a
5 course meal, or simply pop in for a quick
working lunch. There are quick options on the
menu and expert servers who will guide you
through the best picks, suited to your palette and
schedule. Either way, the new Le Kebabiere in
Pune is a treat to make time for - a whole world
of cuisine awaits you.

Kumari Martha Meaghar, for Picassi Newleaf, is an artist of international repute. Her’s is a
remarkable inspiring story. Martha left home at a young age and joined the U.S Peace Corps.

her eyes damaged, she
was devastated when
the doctors declared
her to have incurable

sixteen months in near
total blindness. This is
where she learned to
follow her intuition,
listen to her inner
voice, and allow her

senses to guide her.
Martha doggedly went from one medical expert
to another and had vowed to herself to pursue
painting if she witnessed a miracle and recovered
her eyesight! She kept her promise and started
painting, her paintings reflecting the beauty
within her. She is a huge believer of spirituality
and devoted herself to spiritual practices, where
would often visit the Himalayas! On the path
to spirituality, she discovered her oneness with
the universe and thoroughly enjoyed her time
in forests and caves, being one with nature.
Frequently she would go into silent retreat for
months at a time. Her art became a form of
meditation for her.
To be a beautiful creator you need to let go
of control. As human beings, we are often
conditioned to control our emotions and our
lives, Martha’s paintings instead tell of her
surrender to
nature and
the universe.
Her period
of blindness
created
new neural

incorporates
the sound and feel of an environment into her work. She has
embraced the flow of life and in doing so has become a beautiful creator.

Why
Etiquette
matters!
With people quite occupied in their busy lives
and running to catch up with a fast paced life,
basics like manners and etiquette may seem like
an old-fashioned notion. In this day and age, the
question arises if a seemingly tiny thing like eti-
quette really matters. I say, YES, YES, IT
DOES!
There is a popular saying,
“Good manners will open doors
that the best education cannot”
~ Clarence Thomas
The importance of etiquette
is up there, as it defines a civil
mode of human interaction
with each other. Good Etiquette
is all about putting your finest
self forward and putting others
at ease. Like a candle that serves
its true function only when
lit, etiquette will make you
glow and rise to show your full

potential and your finest self to the outside world.
We, humans, are all hard-wired for connection, and good etiquette is the cornerstone of being able to
make a lasting first impression that will help you to effortlessly connect with people.
When I talk about etiquette, I am not just
limiting it to ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ or
teaching children, how to address elders as
‘Mr.’ or ‘Mrs.’
Good etiquette is about effectively
managing your body language, plus
extending courtesy and empathy towards
others.
Basic mannerisms like covering your
face when sneezing, washing your hands
before handling food, perfecting the
art of a handshake, eating with your
mouth closed, wearing a deodorant, and
showering regularly etc are the essentials
and I would encourage you to make them part of your daily life.
Next, comes differentiating etiquette behaviours around extending empathy and compassion like -
when we mute the phone in restaurants or queue at the bank or abide the road rules, wait patiently
for people to finish their sentence and not interrupt or to extend help to someone tugging their heavy
bags. These are some example of individual gestures, seemingly small, but add up to something big.
These will help you
gain respect and
help you stand out
amongst your peers
and colleagues.
People are inspired
by good behaviour
and perfect
etiquette, they relate
and connect with a
person of decorum.
The case I am trying
to make is that
we really do need
to take a positive
interest in good
manners and enjoy
the true aesthetics
of living, and at the same time winning the cooperation of others.
You will realise that with good etiquette under your belt, you will be able to dignify yourself and
others and contribute to overall social wellbeing by setting an example that others can emulate.

in 2007, where they take
the students for 1 or more
days, depending on their
capabilities, to train them
in ADL (activities of daily
living) skills and also give
them an opportunity to
live independently, away
from their families and enjoy their own space and also allow the parents to get a chance to
enjoy their space and get quality “ME” time.
Parents of differently-abled children in Pune who heard glowing reports of the school
in Mumbai, persuaded Mr Jehangir to start a similar set up in Pune. The Pune branch at
NIBM-Undri Road, started in June 2013, and has been going from strength to strength in its
operations.
Ms Swati Parkash, is the Head Coordinator of the Pune Branch and is assisted by a team
of 6 teaching staff, 3 non-teaching & 1 extracurricular activity staff. With 48 students and
6 classrooms, the school takes care of the children from 9:30am to 2:30pm. The classes
are divided into different categories. For the above 18-year-olds, there is the Vocational
Class, a high functioning group, which does basic National Institute of Open Schooling
(NIOS) level, then there are 2 classes that do functional academics and a lower level group
that learns academics as per IQ and individual functionality. The school also has Extra
Curricular Activities such as Basketball, Judo/Karate, Yoga, Skating, Music and Dance to
channelize their hyperactivity.

Outings to malls and restaurants to enhance their social skills and mainstream them
into society, in-house celebrations like Annual Day & Sports Day, the concept of
celebrating different festivals and cultures of India are all part of the activities that
the children participate in. Twice a year, children also visit the Little Angels Kingdom
(LAK) for multiple training programmes to enhance their various skills.
Mr Jehangir has gone one step ahead and given a chance to, two high functioning
adults Dhaval with Down’s syndrome and Rishab a slow learner to assist his staff at
the school and both boys receive a small stipend for their efforts. They both are role
models for the parents, staff and children.
It is very heartening to see the selfless efforts of the staff, they help children
achieve their full potential and also counsel the parents to accept their children.
Acceptance is the key factor that will help these children bloom into healthy young
independent individuals.
The combined efforts of all will help these Angels achieve their goals…….

We all want to look good, but do
we really take the effort towards our
appearance in today’s fast world?
Sometimes we have our best looking
days and sometimes we find ourselves
struggling to look decent. Why does
this happen? Probably, because we do
not give the much needed time and
attention towards our appearance.
And what happens next, we don’t feel
confident, we are not ourselves, we
tend to lose focus on our work and we
constantly worry about our appearance,
and at the end of the day, we are not
in a very good mood! However, on
the other hand, on our best-looking
days, we feel confident, you are more
productive, social, and confident,
our day runs smoothly, and finally at
the end of the day, we feel good. Our
thoughts, emotions, and actions are,
all linked with our appearance. It’s a
CYCLE!
As said by Judith Rasband , the master
of Image Consulting , “The way you
LOOK affects, the way you THINK
,the way you FEEL , the way you ACT
or BEHAVE and then the way others
REACT or RESPOND to you.” It all
starts from your APPEARANCE!
THE POWER
OF
APPEARANCE
By Shreya Patharkar
(Style Expert)
shreya@carizmagazine.com
How does appearance help you achieve
success?
To be successful first you need to get an
opportunity. After getting the opportunity, you
need to perform with the knowledge and skills
you have, and keep gaining new knowledge,
experience, and skills. However, getting an
opportunity is the kick-start towards your
success and is completely dependent on your
FIRST IMPRESSION!
Your First Impression depends upon the
confidence you carry, your communication skills,
your education, knowledge and experience.
But there is something that communicates a lot
about you besides the ones mentioned above,
YOUR APPEARANCE!
When you walk in for an interview or a meeting,
your Appearance communicates first. Without
even having any verbal conversation people
make a perception about you in their minds
only by looking at you. Based on that perception
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 81
they will form an impression
about you and then will further
assess you considering your
communication skills, experience,
and knowledge. It all starts from
your APPEARANCE again!
Your appearance not only includes
your clothing but also includes
your grooming, body language,
and etiquette. It is very important
that your appearance is in harmony
with your verbal communication
and it works for you and not
against you.
So, as you all now know that it all starts from your
APPEARANCE, start taking efforts towards it and make
looking good a lifestyle, and not only a habit as it will
help you towards your success.
Dress to look successful and success will follow YOU!
Hit or Myth ?
Lose your fat, and win your confidence back,
from the best in the industry, Fitness expert,
Nawaz Modi Singhania!
There are so many myths & misconceptions floating around in the fitness industry today that
cloud a consumer’s vision & naturally hamper their ability to reach their optimum potential
levels of fitness and health. Through today’s article, I’m hoping to set some of these notions right.
You may have heard of a few of the following, and even fallen prey to some, yourself.
• The harder I workout, the more fat I’ll burn.
Sorry, but if you’ve been working yourself to the bone, you aren’t burning fat. For fat loss,
one must stick to working out at moderate intensities for approximately 30- 45 minutes,
& not at a very high intensity. In other words, one must remain in one’s fat burning zone/
target heart rate/ training zone. This can be done in various ways. Keeping a tab on your
pulse is one way of doing it. Speak to your trainer about working out your individual target
heart range. Without this range the knowledge of how to implement it, one may be burning
other sources of energy like glycogen, quick energy, etc, rather than mainly stored body fats.
So, if fat & inch loss is a goal, you would be wasting a lot of time, effort, & possibly money,
by overworking, & only end up being very disappointed.
• The more I sweat, the more fat I burn.
Not true. Water loss is NOT fat loss, & sweat is only water loss! Burning fat & sweating
often go hand in hand, & are therefore confused as being one & the same thing. However,
excessive water loss through sweat can be very harmful, as it can lead to dehydration, heat
exhaustion & even heat strokes in extreme cases. Water loss hampers the ability to continue
any form of cardiovascular exercise as the body overheats, & is unable to effectively get rid
of this heat build-up.
Let me explain via an analogy. For our purpose, imagine a car to be the human body. The
radiator in a car can be compared to our water stores, while the fuel tank can be related
to our fat stores. When the radiator is low on water, the car overheats & performance is
impaired. When the radiator is completely out of water, the car will stall on you. This has
nothing whatsoever to do with the fuel tank (burning fat, in our case). So, to confuse our
fuel tank (fat stores) with our radiator (fat stores) would be absurd.
The myth of Steam Rooms are based on the same theory. After sweating it out in a steam
room, your inches & weight will have certainly dropped, but this loss is only water loss, not
fat loss, & it’s only very temporary. As soon as you drink water again, it’s going to go straight
back to where it cam from, & weight & inch-wise, you’ll be back to where you started! While
steams & saunas have other health benefits, fat loss certainly isn’t one of them. To facilitate
fat loss, one must drink water before, during & after exercise to remain well hydrated, or else
you’ll just end up exhausted & unable to continue with your exercise programme.
• Electrical muscle stimulators will get me to lose fat & inches immediately!
Electrical muscle stimulators, when placed on specific muscle groups, discharge a small
electrical current, causing the muscle to contract. While these devices might help in injury
rehabilitation, they don’t do anything for loss of body fat/ inches. Due to the stimuli,
temporarily the muscles contract, but relax soon after, having one return back to square one.
Nawaz Modi Singhania
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 85
• Exercise is one sure way to
lose all the excess fat & weight
that you want.
Many factors such as
genetics, body type or frame,
dietary habits & intake, etc,
influence weight & fat loss.
There is a wide variation
in how different people
respond to the same training
programme. Each person’s
development of strength &
endurance may vastly vary
from the next. All people will
not lose the same amount
of fat & weight while on the
same programme. So it’s
important not to try &
compete with anyone else.
Work at being the best that
you can be!
• It can’t be harmful or have
any side effects as it’s herbal &
therefore totally natural; there
are no chemicals or drugs in
it (in reference to certain diet
pills, fat burners, & appetite
suppressants).
Totally natural? So is snake
venom & poison ivy! Just
because it’s not man-made
& found in nature’s bounty,
doesn’t mean it isn’t harmful!
Don’t kid yourself! Take a
closer look!
• Once I stop working out,
I’ll end up putting on double
the weight I began with!
Not true! What will happen is
that your body composition
will change. In other words,
when one is working out, the
fat vs. muscle ratio improves.
Stored body fat decreases,
while muscle tone increases.
When one discontinues any
form of exercise, fat loss is
frozen, & while your inches
remain the same, but muscle
tone decreases.
That’s the way it is with
muscle- you either use it, or
lose it! In fact, one’s weight
on the weighing scales will
drop as muscle tone decreases
since muscle is heavier
& denser than fat. This is
provided your dietary habits
remain reasonable. If not, get
ready to watch all that hard
work go down the drain!
So eat sensibly- the gates of
paradise are narrow!
• Diet pills that suppress the
appetite is one sure way of
knocking those extra kilos off.
These ought to be avoided
entirely. They usually
contain a stimulant such as
amphethetamine. Firstly,
the effect of the drug is
temporary, & so the rate of
fat/ weight reduction tapers
off with time. Secondly, these
can cause insomnia, high
blood pressure, dizziness,
headaches & more serious
complications. They are very
addictive as well.
So while you’re on the right
track, don’t start off with all
the wrong ideas!

SUNBURN
DRESSING!By Ravina Sachdev
And It’s Sunburn
Time! Let’s get your
looks and outfits in
order as the festival
is just around the
corner. So, this time
it’s Pune and our
Sunburn Dressing
Ideas list will help
you get the style
statement just right
for this music fest.
Shorts
The word shorts and sunburn probably
go hand in hand. It does not matter
what type of shorts you want to sport-
ripped, high waist, short shorts. You just
cannot go wrong with a pair of shorts
for sunburn.
Crop top
You don’t need us telling you that a crop
top paired with shorts would be conve-
nient and uber cool at the same time.
Pair a sheer crop top with a pair of denim
shorts and you’re good to go.
Day dresses
If you aren’t a huge fan of the above, you
could try your hand at the day dresses.
Kimono
Fashion kimonos add the final touch to your
outfits and complete the look. When done right,
it certainly makes a style statement.
Maxi Dresses
Afraid of showing some skin? Worry not, we’ve
got you covered. Maxi dresses provide the ulti-
mate solution for staying modest and looking
chic at the same time. However, if you’re on the
shorter side, do not opt for dresses 3 to 4 inches below the knee as it
might tend to make you look shorter.
CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 101
Playsuits
Playsuits are always a good idea. Not only do they look sassy
and stylish but they are also really convenient. Team it up
with the right belt and you have a
winner.
Jumpsuit
Not only do they look uber cool,
but they are also super com-
fortable to party in. Throw on a
leather jacket or a funky hat and
you’re good to go.
Shift Dresses
Shift dresses are ideal to pair ac-
cessories or layer clothing with.
They provide the perfect base.
Pick a Boho shift dress and style
it up with some funky capes and
jewellery and top it off with a
chic hat.
High waist pants
Nothing screams fun more than
a pair of high waist pants paired
with a dainty Bralette. Team it up with some long chains
and gladiators and there is nothing stopping you.
Oversized Military Jackets
Add oodles of drama by pairing
this sassy jacket over a dress or some
shorts. Not only will it up your style
game, but also keep you warm on those
December chilly nights!
Coordinates or co-ords
Weary thinking of some suitable
bottoms for your favourite blouse? Or
tired of finding the right uppers for
your go-to pair of denim? Fear not, ignore the long searches for
the soul mate pair, by buying co-ords!
Fringe
Any fringe is a good idea in music shows. If you are scared to experiment
with fringe clothing, then you could become a member of the fringe club,
by carrying fringe detail bags or belts! Yes, you do have fringe belts too!
Boots
Boots would be the best idea for sunburn.
If you aren’t a fan of boots, then you could
stick to gladiator sandal flats or some detailed
flat. Ditch the heels as you’d be standing in a
crowded arena for a long time.
Gladiators
Gladiators are a one stop solution for looking music festy and at the same
time playing comfortable.
Headgears
Headgears are a major hit at all music fests.
You could play it safe by adding a delicate
tiara on your head.
Boho Jewellery
Just three words, ladies, STACK
IT UP. Now is the time to show off
every piece of jewellery sitting on
your dressing table for the past two years. Stacking off some boho
themed jewellery pieces will instantly get you a thumbs up.
Flash tattoos
No, we are not
suggesting you
go get inked for
the event; we’re merely suggesting you take help of
temporary flash tattoos. They look uber cool and
instantly give off those Free-Spirited vibes. You don’t
have to get a lot of it on your body, even one or two
on your shoulder or hand would suffice.

Hello
December!!!By Riti Taherbhoy
riti@carizmagazine.com
The countdown to 2017 is on, and I know
you’ve been waiting for this!!!
As always, December is a transitional month, but
particularly this year. According to numerology,
2016 is a 9-year, representing the completion
of a 9-year cycle. The trend for the entire year
has been one of release and completion. Almost
everyone I speak with is experiencing some type
of wrap up, ending and significant change in their
life flow and circumstances.
There’s a special magic to December, as many of
us find ourselves being merry with family and
friends, although do keep in mind the move from
December to January is powerful. We’re tying
up loose ends now, deciding what we want to
take with us into the new year, as we now have a
chance to shed the things, people, old habits and
addictions that have been dragging us down.
Take the time to acknowledge how far you have
come over the last 9 years; reflect on your lessons,
forgive, let go, embrace the wisdom gained and be
GRATEFUL for all the joyous moments in your
life. In doing so, you will transcend the need to
repeat old patterns, habits and begin a brand new
cycle of growth being aware and conscious of a
new beginning.
A very happy, prosperous and joyous new year to
you all!

From the Editor’sDesk Vidhya Tiwari Editor-in-chief The month of December is a month of celebration, chilly winter nights, hot cocoa and a book by your side, I don’t think it gets better than that; but that’s just my opinion! For a few others, this could be boring or monotonous, something they can do anytime they want! Hence, partying away to glory, maybe their way to ending the year, do it on a high note, literally! Year endings are also the best time to travel, as it is the holiday season, and the season of cheer and joy! With a combination of a Portuguese and African influences, top rated attractions, listings on the UNESCO World Heritage list, beautiful beaches, surf breaks, fantastic scenery and a lot of sun, Cape Verde is a perfect dream holiday destination, which is still unknown to many globe trotters including Indian travellers. At a distance of merely six-hour flight from Western Europe, this heaven on earth is also steeped in culture and history with many tours and attractions offering an insight into the local traditions. Among one of the most popular islands of this beautiful country, Sal was the first to attract tourists from around the globe with the opening of an international airport back in 1948. Sal Island is the quintessential part of Cape Verde’s controlled development programme with billions of Euros of international investment into hotels, resorts, marinas, water parks and commercial centres. The active government of Cape Verde in its continuous effort to make the country an unmatched travel destination is majorly investing in Sal. There are regular scheduled flights to Sal’s established international airport direct from Birmingham, Gatwick, Manchester and Bristol as well as all over Europe, Turkey, and Middle East. The charming town of Santa Maria in the south of Sal, is the main tourist attraction that enjoys eight kilometres of stunning beaches, gastronomical cafes and restaurants as well as shopping attractions. Other highlights include the town of Espargos in the centre of the Island, the salt flats of Pedra de Lume on the east coast and the port town of Palmeira on the western side of the Island. Sal (Salt in Portuguese) One of the rare sea destinations where one can find sunshine all year-round, breathtaking white sandy beaches, clear blue sea and world-class facilities for tourists, Sal is a perfect surf, dive and sunny destination. It’s also an ideal island to relax and to use as a starting point to explore other islands of Cape Verde. Sal is the most flat island of Cape Verde and is 30 kilometre long and about 12 kilometre wide. The landscape consists of brown rock slabs and desert sand coming by wind from the mainland from the Sahara. Attractions Buracona: One of the major attractions of Sal is Buracona in the northwest of the island where you can admire the ‘blue eye’. On the coast are black volcanic rocks with a big hole towards the sea. As the sun shines on the correct height, the light reflects on at the azure sea. This colour is so bright blue, hence the name ‘blue eye’. If you are in the area you can also have a swim nearby natural pools (shielded by rocks). Pedra de Lume: ever wondered how it feels to be able to float and not sink? Pedra de Lume is an old volcano crater that serves as a beautiful lake with salt pans. In the salt pans you can swim and stay afloat, thanks to the high content of salt. The salt pans are on the nomination

Beaches of Santa Maria: About 3 kilometres of perfect wide and sandy white beaches, combining an azure sea that has a pleasant temperature, this is an ideal place to relax. It is also one of the most beautiful beaches of Cape Verde. Diving: There are plenty of dive sites where even some nice old shipwrecks are found. At only 11 meters there is a ship wreck complete can be seen where with colourful fish are found. The reefs and caves can be visited via the local diving centre. Boavista Boavista is situated approximately 50 kilometres off Sal and is the third largest island of Cape Verde. The almost flat island has a good 55 kilometres of white sandy beaches and is known for its white sands with small oasis with palm trees. Ideal for a relaxed beach outing, windsurfing, diving to spot shipwrecks or whales watching, there’s nothing that you won’t find in this gorgeous beach destination. The Humpback Whale comes in the period from December to the sea at Boavista. The best time to see a whale, however, is between March and June, when the born humpback whales stay in more shallow water. Turtles: Boavista is one of the most important places in the world where the Caretta Caretta turtle lays its eggs. Thousands of turtles are nesting on Boavista, primarily at the east coast of the island. In mid-June to late October, the turtles come to the beach to lay eggs. Tell us alittle about yourself. I am a people’s person. Always have been. That’s how I chose Hospitality as a career. My objective in my work life has always been to create experiences for guests as well as the team that I work with. Choosing to work with Hyatt Hotels has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I have been fortunate to have been with this brand for 14 years. What does being the GM of Hyatt mean to you? A dream come true.Being in the hospitality industry is a tough job; each day comes with its own challenges, any that you faced? Dividing equal time between guests, associates and family become challenging at times. Prioritising one over the other is a constant juggling game. Pleasing your clients can sometimes be a tough job, one incident where you can say you achieved the impossible. A male guest staying with us for the first time was not happy with the food he was served. I met him during the stay and asked for his food preferences. All his meals post that were personalised and he felt very well taken care of. After leaving he sent me a friend request on Facebook and the relationship evolved into him choosing Hyatt Pune Kalyani Nagar as his address while in the city each time. You just complimented one of your wait staff, are you someone who exhorts and builds up or someone who is a strict boss? I always push people to test their limits and they end up discovering their true potential.

I know itisn’t fair to ask a parent to pick, but, which one is your favourite restaurant in the hotel? Yes, it is a difficult choice however if I were to pick one it would be Baan Tao as the cuisine is my personal favourite. Are you someone who believes in doing things the right way or would you do the right things even if the way is wrong? I believe, if you do things right, as it ends up being the right thing. One quality you look for in your team members/ employees. One quality I admire in people I work with is, ‘CARE’. Not just for guests but also for the property, brand and most of all, each other. This also mirrors the Purpose of Hyatt – We care for people so they can be their best. The places that have left an impression on me are the ones that not only had good food and CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 23

ambience but alsohad team members who addressed every opportunity to comfort the individual needs of a guest. How do you find Pune? I am positively in love with this city, I am especially fond of the weather, greenery and people. The best compliment you have received. I became a General Manager of a hotel at 33 years of age. Once while visiting a travel agent during a sales call with a colleague I was asked when was the hotel General Manager joining the meeting? After he realised he said I was the youngest General Manager he had ever seen and hence asked the question. Something that puts a smile on your face (could be a personal thing too)? Meeting a happy guest / employee first thing in the morning. One thing that upsets you/makes you unhappy? We all make mistakes but when people cover them up with false stories instead of owning up and learning, it really makes me unhappy. Who inspires You? M S Dhoni What’s next? Hyatt Pune Kalyani Nagar has had three successful years. I am new to Pune and plan to engage more with the people of Pune to take the hotel to greater heights. Your strength and weakness? Strength – my ability to connect quickly with people. Weakness – oversensitivity that is a result of connecting with people. You are a very well styled person, who picks your clothes? I pick my own clothes. Your Favourite Cuisine? Vietnamese and Cambodian Favourite movie? Spiderman – for its dialogue, “Remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Favourite actor? Deepika Padukone Your favourite car? BMW Favourite perfume? Hugo Boss Formal or casuals? Casuals Your favourite holiday destination? Munich, Germany

The Cornerstone ofCafé Culture! Sipping and Flipping through the pages..! So, I was sifting through the seminal work of Amartya Sen on a hot Sunday Mumbai morning. As I had just started reading through his magnum opus, ‘The Argumentative Indian’, a volley of thoughts and references started wafting through my head. Such is the compelling nature of his works. Even an average mortal like me was forced to deliberate over matters that transcend time and space. Mr Sen opens this book with an essay on Voice and heterodoxy and how it has been an integral part of the Indian way of life. To his understanding, the mythological stories from Indian myths and scriptures are analogous with the culture of debate prevalent in the Indian society. Or so has it been till now. Because now, the omnipotence of discussions and deliberations is replaced by the phenomenal rise of social media. It is sheer providence that while I had almost formed an opinion on this current in the society, I realised I was sitting in one of the iconic Irani cafes of this city. Irani Cafes have been the vestibule of proxy conversations and heated debates since Mumbai has known to conduct its business better this way. These cafes have been identified with leisure time chatter, which could range from international relations to the stiffness of the dough in the ‘bun maska paav.’ Such has been the historical standing of these cafes that they adorn the most iconic corners of the city. These sanctified chambers, where one could endlessly explore opinion and dissect matters have now assumed the role of a foster child abandoned by its own masters. One is forced to ruminate over this apparent decadence in culture. These shining beacons of our glorious past have been sacrificed at the altar of time or the lack of it. The aftermath of globalisation and the meteoric rise of Mumbai as the financial national hub has not sided well Rohan Dange Special Features Writer rohan@carizmagazine.com CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 25

with the ethosof a languid culture. Languid, I dare say because it is reminiscent of a past ornamented with the drawl of constant chatter with faint regard for time. Instead, what we are witnessing today is the onslaught of social media. It is convenient, to simplify matters. And it is perfect via social media to vent out our pent up rage. The absolute lack of time and a strong urge for validation finds its voice in an ugly manner in the virtual space. It is either black or white . Grey areas have become a thing of the past, whose utility is antiquated just as our ‘kaali peelis’ . As the taxis of our recent past are coming to a screeching halt so is our power to reason and rationalise. Leisure time is dedicated to the consumption of unfounded media reports propped by zealots of the fourth estate as if it was the cardinal truth. Our beloved Irani Cafes have been thus relegated to the background and quite obviously so. The honourable mentions that they receive are in the realms of Listicles and itinerary of foreign travellers. Yes, they are known for their culinary merit as well. But the associated culture of these cafes does not find a resonance with the youth of today. Is it a collective dumbing of the masses or is the Darwinian principle, imposingly reiterating itself? The answer may be traced back to the growing clamour for wealth, wherein we are readily giving away cherished possessions. As if it was a monthly ritual to dispose of the newspaper in the name of ‘raddi.’ What is more, baffling is our desire for monologues, where Tweets and Facebook posts have become our allies in fomenting hatred and spouting venom. The new face of socialising! The idea of a debate in today’s world! Are we the “smart phone and dumb people generation?”

And at everyinstance of a contrarian thought craning its neck out, technology allows us to block it or even worse troll it!! It’s almost akin to a Shakespearean tragedy while one can only watch with disbelief the carnage that keyboard warriors can unfurl with gay abandon. Never mind the constant cyber bullying. As I was putting out my third Marlboro of the evening I was forced to draw an analogy with the ‘adda’ culture of Kolkata. The informal discussions that the city breathes in and it’s everyday literary razzmatazz. How is it that a sister city in terms of size and proportions has not succumbed to the lure of modern day social mores. To a large extent it may have, but it has yet been able to catalyse the art of discussion and debate in a subtle way. And then I had an epiphany. The divergence is certainly because of political philosophies. Mumbai is the shining beacon of capitalism while Kolkata is at the vanguard of soft culture and the finer nuances of life. One is a financial daredevil while the other one is a champion of the Renaissance. How could I miss the obvious? One could not fault Mumbai for letting the Irani Cafe, charm fade away. In fact, it’s an achievement that the regal splendour of our old warhorses continues to occupy our mental bandwidth. We can grin and bear it. But the substitutes that we have adopted are far more dangerous than the utility of having coffee and lashing at each other in broad daylight. The juxtaposition of social media with these cafes is a strange alliance. And will the twain ever meet? In my limited understanding, never. But until we cultivate etiquette, we always have the old rustic charm of these Cafes to fall back on. As long as the patrons can withstand the modern day pressures to hang out at swish clubs, it is victory enough. ‘Bun Maska’ with some dose of pseudo-intellectual pitter-patter still has enough seductive power to magnetise outliers, to take refuge in these halls of pure understated opulence. Dubai, Nina continuesto collaborate with global beauty brands. Apart from workshops, she showcases the latest beauty trends, services and products via her blog which is extremely popular. Here’s getting up, close and personal with the one, well known for her bespoke contouring skills and much more... Q) Your tryst with fame and being referred to as the ‘Eyebrow & Contour Queen’, how did the journey start? I was 15 when I scouted as a model for a magazine. After a brief stint, I realised that I was more comfortable being behind the scenes rather than being on stage. I would instinctively know what shades would work rather than what the artist would suggest. Soon after finishing my education, I decided to pursue a career in makeup artistry instead of going to University. I also started working as a make-up artist for Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden and Kanebo. Simultaneously, I learnt the basics of photography, lighting, photoshop and creative art direction. Since then, there has been no looking back. Q) Where do you get your inspiration from? Every face is different and my style changes depending on the person and the occasion. I never go by the typical pre-conceived notions. It’s something that just comes naturally to me and I love being distinct. Q) What’s your magic mantra for that perfect look? Never cut corners, your movements should be slow so that you don’t rush the application and blending. Q) What is the most common make-up mistake that people make? It’s probably not enough of blending in the shades. The application and blending should be completely separate if you are a make-up amateur. Q) What are the must haves for any dressing table? Make-Up Forever Ultra HD Concealer, Tom Ford Skin Illuminating powder duo and Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow. Nina Ubhi CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 39

    Q) What’s themost important factor in deciding the final look? It all depends on how the colours suit your skin tone. If the colours you use are too close to your natural skin colour then you won’t have much depth to the overall look. Certain colours stand out on the skin tone and it’s usually the lip colour. Q) Your favourite and often used make- up technique? Smoky eyes are my favourite. I love creating this look on people as it’s actually quite easy when you learn the basics. It can also be a really subtle look in comparison to the liner look, depending on how smoky you make it. Q) A winter-make-up tip for our readers? A deep red lip will really vamp it up for the winter weather. What I love about winter is you can get away with more makeup! Q) Amongst the celebs, who is the one person you would love to makeover? I would love to work on Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! Q) Your relaxation mantra? A spa day! Since work keeps me on my toes shuttling between UK, Dubai and India, sometimes I’m in and out of countries in one day for VIP clients so the one place I tend to relax is in the spa. Q) What’s your forte other than make-up artistry? Other than make-up artistry, I love baking and cooking! If I wasn’t a make-up artist I would definitely be baking for a living! I find it so therapeutic. Q) What is the one thing that you love doing the most? I love catching up with tv series and also spending time with my husband Bobby, who is also my best friend and business partner! We love eating out and watching movies. Spending time with my

husband is whatI look forward to and love the most. Q) How did passion for beauty lead you to write? I was approached by a leading wedding magazine in the UK when I started sharing my knowledge, expertise and experience. As her role as Beauty Editor for UK publications; Asian Woman Magazine and Asian Bride Magazine she has countless beauty shoots within the leading magazine Asiana Wedding. Nina’s company was the official catwalk sponsor for the UK’s largest Asian Bridal Show and Exhibition 2015 in Mayfair, London. Q) Other than make-up and beauty, what is the next best thing closest to your heart? It’s travelling and baking! Due to the nature of my work, I travel quite a bit. I love baking desserts and cooking, although I find little time to do so. Nina was selected to judge the Viva Beauty Awards 2016 alongside Mona Kattan and Sheida Babareza. International Travel Cesky Krumlov- the hidden paradise! “Get mesmerized, reading this travel piece on Cesky Krumlov, as our Features Editor, Sonia Malani, takes you on a magical tour!” By Sonia Malani Features Editor sonia@carizmagazine.com

We stayed atthe lovely Krumlov House, which is a 400 plus year old ancient house, converted to a hostel. Wooden attic spaces, skylights, and extremely warm and helpful owners who handed us the cutest hand drawn doodled map with their recommendations – I’m positive we couldn’t have chosen a better place to spend the night at. Cesky Krumlov is a gorgeous little town in the Czech Republic, which takes you back in time to the 14th Century with its gothic old world charm. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage centre, it is straight out of a fairytale with its narrow cobbled streets, a castle, riverside restaurants and centuries old medieval taverns. The place is bathed in historic remnants from the middle ages and I would highly recommend it to everyone who is traveling to Prague – best thing, it is only a 3-hour bus ride away. While Cesky, can easilybe explored in a day’s excursion on foot, take your time strolling around leisurely and getting lost in its labyrinths. Whether you have just a day or more in Cesky Krumlov, here is what you should do and see, while you are there: The Castle – The castle ground consists of 40 buildings and by the time you have explored the main Castle, its tall tower, baroque theatre and the wide stretching gardens, you might feel your feet burn, but the long walk is absolutely worth every step. The 360-degree view from the Castle tower with the river Vltava intertwining this red-roofed beauty is absolutely breath taking. River tour – If you visit during the summ er, you can rent a raft (try the old-fashioned wooden raft) or a canoe or kayak and float down the VItava River. It also offers white water rafting through its rapids and waterfalls and has tiny bars along the riverside where you can kick back and sip on a Mojito.

Old Town –We visited Cesky around Easter and the old town was teeming with locals and tourists flocking the weekend market. From the choicest lavender to cheese to homemade desserts and of course the Trdelnik, this tiny town square had it all. (Trdelnik is a must try traditional Czech pastry with a caramelized coating of butter and cinnamon sugar, and it melts in your mouth deliciously!) You could also just hang out at the fountain in the middle of the town square and take a minute to marvel at the renaissance architecture all around you. Freshly made Czech Cheese! She kept her promise and started painting, her paintings reflecting the beauty within her. She is a huge believer of spirituality and devoted herself to spiritual practices, where would often visit the Himalayas! On the path to spirituality, she discovered her oneness with the universe and thoroughly enjoyed her time in forests and caves, being one with nature. Frequently she would go into silent retreat for months at a time. Her art became a form of meditation for her. To be a beautiful creator you need to let go of control. As human beings, we are often conditioned to control our emotions and our lives, Martha’s paintings instead tell of her surrender to nature and the universe. Her period of blindness created new neural pathways in her brain and she incorporates the sound and feel of an environment into her work. She has embraced the flow of life and in doing so has become a beautiful creator. Please do visit www.painterofdelight.com to view her paintings and be inspired.

Why Etiquette matters! With people quiteoccupied in their busy lives and running to catch up with a fast paced life, basics like manners and etiquette may seem like an old-fashioned notion. In this day and age, the question arises if a seemingly tiny thing like eti- quette really matters. I say, YES, YES, IT DOES! There is a popular saying, “Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot” ~ Clarence Thomas The importance of etiquette is up there, as it defines a civil mode of human interaction with each other. Good Etiquette is all about putting your finest self forward and putting others at ease. Like a candle that serves its true function only when lit, etiquette will make you glow and rise to show your full Nancy Katyal Founder, Image consultant & Soft skills Coach @ ThePerfectYou!

potential and yourfinest self to the outside world. We, humans, are all hard-wired for connection, and good etiquette is the cornerstone of being able to make a lasting first impression that will help you to effortlessly connect with people. When I talk about etiquette, I am not just limiting it to ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ or teaching children, how to address elders as ‘Mr.’ or ‘Mrs.’ Good etiquette is about effectively managing your body language, plus extending courtesy and empathy towards others. Basic mannerisms like covering your face when sneezing, washing your hands before handling food, perfecting the art of a handshake, eating with your mouth closed, wearing a deodorant, and showering regularly etc are the essentials and I would encourage you to make them part of your daily life.
  • 69.
Next, comes differentiatingetiquette behaviours around extending empathy and compassion like - when we mute the phone in restaurants or queue at the bank or abide the road rules, wait patiently for people to finish their sentence and not interrupt or to extend help to someone tugging their heavy bags. These are some example of individual gestures, seemingly small, but add up to something big. These will help you gain respect and help you stand out amongst your peers and colleagues. People are inspired by good behaviour and perfect etiquette, they relate and connect with a person of decorum. The case I am trying to make is that we really do need to take a positive interest in good manners and enjoy the true aesthetics of living, and at the same time winning the cooperation of others. You will realise that with good etiquette under your belt, you will be able to dignify yourself and others and contribute to overall social wellbeing by setting an example that others can emulate. We all wantto look good, but do we really take the effort towards our appearance in today’s fast world? Sometimes we have our best looking days and sometimes we find ourselves struggling to look decent. Why does this happen? Probably, because we do not give the much needed time and attention towards our appearance. And what happens next, we don’t feel confident, we are not ourselves, we tend to lose focus on our work and we constantly worry about our appearance, and at the end of the day, we are not in a very good mood! However, on the other hand, on our best-looking days, we feel confident, you are more productive, social, and confident, our day runs smoothly, and finally at the end of the day, we feel good. Our thoughts, emotions, and actions are, all linked with our appearance. It’s a CYCLE! As said by Judith Rasband , the master of Image Consulting , “The way you LOOK affects, the way you THINK ,the way you FEEL , the way you ACT or BEHAVE and then the way others REACT or RESPOND to you.” It all starts from your APPEARANCE! How does appearancehelp you achieve success? To be successful first you need to get an opportunity. After getting the opportunity, you need to perform with the knowledge and skills you have, and keep gaining new knowledge, experience, and skills. However, getting an opportunity is the kick-start towards your success and is completely dependent on your FIRST IMPRESSION! Your First Impression depends upon the confidence you carry, your communication skills, your education, knowledge and experience. But there is something that communicates a lot about you besides the ones mentioned above, YOUR APPEARANCE! When you walk in for an interview or a meeting, your Appearance communicates first. Hit or Myth? Lose your fat, and win your confidence back, from the best in the industry, Fitness expert, Nawaz Modi Singhania! There are so many myths & misconceptions floating around in the fitness industry today that cloud a consumer’s vision & naturally hamper their ability to reach their optimum potential levels of fitness and health. Through today’s article, I’m hoping to set some of these notions right. You may have heard of a few of the following, and even fallen prey to some, yourself.
  • 86.
    • The harderI workout, the more fat I’ll burn. Sorry, but if you’ve been working yourself to the bone, you aren’t burning fat. For fat loss, one must stick to working out at moderate intensities for approximately 30- 45 minutes, & not at a very high intensity. In other words, one must remain in one’s fat burning zone/ target heart rate/ training zone. This can be done in various ways. Keeping a tab on your pulse is one way of doing it. Speak to your trainer about working out your individual target heart range. Without this range the knowledge of how to implement it, one may be burning other sources of energy like glycogen, quick energy, etc, rather than mainly stored body fats. So, if fat & inch loss is a goal, you would be wasting a lot of time, effort, & possibly money, by overworking, & only end up being very disappointed. • The more I sweat, the more fat I burn. Not true. Water loss is NOT fat loss, & sweat is only water loss! Burning fat & sweating often go hand in hand, & are therefore confused as being one & the same thing. However, excessive water loss through sweat can be very harmful, as it can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion & even heat strokes in extreme cases. Water loss hampers the ability to continue any form of cardiovascular exercise as the body overheats, & is unable to effectively get rid of this heat build-up. Let me explain via an analogy. For our purpose, imagine a car to be the human body. The radiator in a car can be compared to our water stores, while the fuel tank can be related to our fat stores. When the radiator is low on water, the car overheats & performance is impaired. When the radiator is completely out of water, the car will stall on you. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the fuel tank (burning fat, in our case). So, to confuse our fuel tank (fat stores) with our radiator (fat stores) would be absurd. The myth of Steam Rooms are based on the same theory. After sweating it out in a steam room, your inches & weight will have certainly dropped, but this loss is only water loss, not fat loss, & it’s only very temporary. As soon as you drink water again, it’s going to go straight back to where it cam from, & weight & inch-wise, you’ll be back to where you started! While steams & saunas have other health benefits, fat loss certainly isn’t one of them. To facilitate fat loss, one must drink water before, during & after exercise to remain well hydrated, or else you’ll just end up exhausted & unable to continue with your exercise programme. • Electrical muscle stimulators will get me to lose fat & inches immediately! Electrical muscle stimulators, when placed on specific muscle groups, discharge a small electrical current, causing the muscle to contract. While these devices might help in injury rehabilitation, they don’t do anything for loss of body fat/ inches. Due to the stimuli, temporarily the muscles contract, but relax soon after, having one return back to square one.

    • Exercise isone sure way to lose all the excess fat & weight that you want. Many factors such as genetics, body type or frame, dietary habits & intake, etc, influence weight & fat loss. There is a wide variation in how different people respond to the same training programme. Each person’s development of strength & endurance may vastly vary from the next. All people will not lose the same amount of fat & weight while on the same programme. So it’s important not to try & compete with anyone else. Work at being the best that you can be! • It can’t be harmful or have any side effects as it’s herbal & therefore totally natural; there are no chemicals or drugs in it (in reference to certain diet pills, fat burners, & appetite suppressants). Totally natural? So is snake venom & poison ivy! Just because it’s not man-made & found in nature’s bounty, doesn’t mean it isn’t harmful! Don’t kid yourself! Take a closer look! • Once I stop working out, I’ll end up putting on double the weight I began with! Not true! What will happen is that your body composition will change. In other words, when one is working out, the fat vs. muscle ratio improves. Stored body fat decreases, while muscle tone increases. When one discontinues any form of exercise, fat loss is frozen, & while your inches remain the same, but muscle tone decreases. That’s the way it is with muscle- you either use it, or lose it! In fact, one’s weight on the weighing scales will drop as muscle tone decreases since muscle is heavier & denser than fat. This is provided your dietary habits remain reasonable. If not, get ready to watch all that hard work go down the drain! So eat sensibly- the gates of paradise are narrow! • Diet pills that suppress the appetite is one sure way of knocking those extra kilos off. These ought to be avoided entirely. They usually contain a stimulant such as amphethetamine. Firstly, the effect of the drug is temporary, & so the rate of fat/ weight reduction tapers off with time. Secondly, these can cause insomnia, high blood pressure, dizziness, headaches & more serious complications. They are very addictive as well. So while you’re on the right track, don’t start off with all the wrong ideas! For more information visit www.bodyart.in

SUNBURN DRESSING!By Ravina Sachdev AndIt’s Sunburn Time! Let’s get your looks and outfits in order as the festival is just around the corner. So, this time it’s Pune and our Sunburn Dressing Ideas list will help you get the style statement just right for this music fest. Shorts The word shorts and sunburn probably go hand in hand. It does not matter what type of shorts you want to sport- ripped, high waist, short shorts. You just cannot go wrong with a pair of shorts for sunburn. Crop top You don’t need us telling you that a crop top paired with shorts would be conve- nient and uber cool at the same time. Pair a sheer crop top with a pair of denim shorts and you’re good to go. Day dresses If you aren’t a huge fan of the above, you could try your hand at the day dresses. Kimono Fashion kimonos add the final touch to your outfits and complete the look. When done right, it certainly makes a style statement. Maxi Dresses Afraid of showing some skin? Worry not, we’ve got you covered. Maxi dresses provide the ulti- mate solution for staying modest and looking chic at the same time. However, if you’re on the shorter side, do not opt for dresses 3 to 4 inches below the knee as it might tend to make you look shorter. CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 101

High waist pants Nothing screams fun more than a pair of high waist pants paired with a dainty Bralette. Team it up with some long chains and gladiators and there is nothing stopping you. Fringe Any fringe isa good idea in music shows. If you are scared to experiment with fringe clothing, then you could become a member of the fringe club, by carrying fringe detail bags or belts! Yes, you do have fringe belts too! Boots Boots would be the best idea for sunburn. If you aren’t a fan of boots, then you could stick to gladiator sandal flats or some detailed flat. Ditch the heels as you’d be standing in a crowded arena for a long time. Gladiators Gladiators are a one stop solution for looking music festy and at the same time playing comfortable. Headgears Headgears are a major hit at all music fests. You could play it safe by adding a delicate tiara on your head. Boho Jewellery Just three words, ladies, STACK IT UP. Now is the time to show off every piece of jewellery sitting on your dressing table for the past two years. Stacking off some boho themed jewellery pieces will instantly get you a thumbs up. Flash tattoos No, we are not suggesting you go get inked for the event; we’re merely suggesting you take help of temporary flash tattoos. They look uber cool and instantly give off those Free-Spirited vibes. You don’t have to get a lot of it on your body, even one or two on your shoulder or hand would suffice. The countdown to2017 is on, and I know you’ve been waiting for this!!! As always, December is a transitional month, but particularly this year. According to numerology, 2016 is a 9-year, representing the completion of a 9-year cycle. The trend for the entire year has been one of release and completion. Almost everyone I speak with is experiencing some type of wrap up, ending and significant change in their life flow and circumstances. There’s a special magic to December, as many of us find ourselves being merry with family and friends, although do keep in mind the move from December to January is powerful. We’re tying up loose ends now, deciding what we want to take with us into the new year, as we now have a chance to shed the things, people, old habits and addictions that have been dragging us down. Take the time to acknowledge how far you have come over the last 9 years; reflect on your lessons, forgive, let go, embrace the wisdom gained and be GRATEFUL for all the joyous moments in your life. In doing so, you will transcend the need to repeat old patterns, habits and begin a brand new cycle of growth being aware and conscious of a new beginning. A very happy, prosperous and joyous new year to you all! CARIZ MAGAZINE Volume I Issue II December 2016 109
