Agriculture

5. Bilasini Suna, the president, ensures participation of all the members
for phenyl production, regular savings and purchasing of raw
materials like Pine Oil, Soap oil, PGN, Perfume and Plastic bottle
etc.
Formation of the SHG has led to strong social bonds, spending
fruitful time together and helping one another in need.
Self Help Group is one of the most active SHG’s in Niyamgiri Vedanta Nagar (NVN)
A small township built by VAL for project displaced families.
Group earned popularity by making Phenyl at NVN from 1st June, 2005.
Awarded with the “The Development Task Force” by the Chief Minister of Orissa.
6. Intervention has led to zero pest attack and income generated has
scaled from INR 4000 to over INR 10,000 per acre with an assured
market.
219 acres of land have been brought under organic cotton cultivation
with increased land productivity and farmers’ income.
178.96 acres of cultivated land belonging to 92 farmers in 8 villages
of Lanjigarh Block and have been insured against natural disasters.
Organic Cotton Cultivation initiated to facilitate farmers to grow cotton organically which
entailed using cultural practices, bio fertilizers and biological pest controls.
Farmers have been trained in making and using organic manure resulting in sustained as
well as enhanced soil productivity.
Crops have been insured with Agriculture Insurance Company, Bhubaneswar.
7. Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh observed World TB Day on March 24, 2014 at
Vedanta Hospital to increase public awareness on tuberculosis.
It Launched the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) at Vedanta Hospital.
Hospital empaneled as one of the centers for RSBY scheme in Lanjigarh block.
Objective is to help BPL households in meeting financial liabilities arising due
to health related issues like hospitalization.
Hospitalization coverage of up to Rs. 30,000/-, Coverage extends to five
members of the family.
8. Rayagada Police during the year 2010 launched a unique project named
“Nua Mana Nua Sapana” (new thoughts, new dreams) in the district.
Project aims at developing better connect between police and the general
public.
An annual event wherein tribal students from schools of different Maoist-
affected areas of the district from different schools participate.
It continues for 2-3 days and comprise of lots of fun packed competitive
programs.
Instrumental in providing platform for the tribal students to come forward
and be a part of the mainstream system.
