BVG BEACH CLEANING PROJECTS- ORISSA , ANDAMAN, PORT BLAIR
Question 2
1. What is representation?
• Representation is how a certain group of people are generalised
throughout the media. This includes a stereotypical dress
code, way of speaking and general morale. This can also be
sculpted from smaller things, such as lighting and mis-en-scene.
• This is done so us as an audience can instantly put this character
into perspective – we pre-judge their behaviour and this allows us
to scope out the characters we may like or dislike from previous
experiences.
• For example, in mean girls, Regina George is sculpted out to be
the popular girl and we can see that instantly – pink clothes, short
skirts, high heels, blonde hair etc.
• Typically in super hero movies, such as the dark knight, the
villain is shown in dark lighting, maybe a deep voice and dark
clothes.
2. How have we used stereotypes in
vamp?
• The outcast: dark clothes, alone, a few friends – never in a
big crowd – we incorporated this into our opening. More
complex than the typical, we can kind of see the vampire
genre leak in too (Edward from twilight) dark &
mysterious.
• The token black guy – as you can see the in the
SlideShare, this character has been used in many films.
typically dressed in sports gear, headphones, a sidekick, we
incorporated this into our opening with the character
Michael, who is Carlos’ best friend.
• In regards to status, The lighting in the college is even.
Shows they are both in the same status, both students.
