Architecture
Renick School of Education - North Carolina A&T State University 64,000 SF
The 64,000 sf program is comprised primarily of classroom space with an ap-
propriate mix of social, interaction and support spaces. The classrooms range in
scale and function, from traditional to Model Teaching environments. The primary
office environments are faculty and administrative in nature and are inclusive of
the Dean’s suite. A 3-story Lobby and interior street link the program elements.
Interior Architecture - Architectural Review
Quintiles Imperial Tower & Corporate Headquarters 252,000 SF
The Quintiles family of companies is a global leader in pharmaceutical services,
improving healthcare worldwide by providing innovative, quality professional ex-
pertise, market intelligence and partnering solutions to meet dynamic needs. Our
task was to review and critique the overall building design and then design a time-
less, efficient space incorporating sustainable design practices. These design
principles are also to be the standard Quintiles Global Image around the world in
all new facilities.
Adaptive Reuse
International Civil Rights Center & Museum (under construction) 45,000 SF
The ICRCM is a restoration and adaptive reuse of the existing Woolworth’s De-
partment Store, the location of the first lunch counter sit-in on February 2, 1960,
an event that was the catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement in America. The goal
was to preserve the Art Deco building, provide a new and distinctive museum
entry and renovate all three levels to accommodate the needs for the Cultural
Center and Museum. The design and exhibits will chronicle the struggle for civil
rights in American and throughout the world.
Urban Planning
Crosland Greens Sustainable Community (competition) 33 acres
The project was a 33-acre Transit-Oriented-Redevelopment near the Scaleybark
Light Rail Station on the South Corridor Line. Envisioned was a development
to concentrate a mix of complementary, well integrated transit supportive land
uses, transforming the site into a highly desirable, pedestrain-oriented transit vil-
lage. Building massing should be urban and dense at the transit station and pro-
gressively less as it approaches the existing neighborhoods. Provide a “sense
of place” for residents, tenants and customers with little impact on the environ-
ment.
Landscape
Rail Side Linear Art Park 6 city blocks
This urban trail leads from the Virginia Museum of Transportation and terminates at the Taubman Museum of Art
and Historic Farmer’s Market. This park is sprinkled with remnants of Roanoke’s railroad heritage and designed
with concrete, steel and bronze which are typically associated with railroad structures. Engine crankshafts, cross-
ing gates and the rhythm of rail traffic were implemented to educate and inspire.
