The design ranking of the country is based on the design average shown. Of the numerous indexes compiled
in the Global Competitiveness Report, there are five that relate to the application of design: extend of branding,
capacity for innovation, uniqueness of product design, product process sophistication, and extent of marketing.
To derive an overall measure of design application, these indexes are then averaged.

today in Arabia suburb in Helsinki and at the main university campus is
located in Otaniemi in Espoo.
• Aalto University's shared campus at Otaniemi will be completed in 2016.

Aalto University's first artist in residence,
multimedia artist Marita Liulia's film
Jumalattaren paluu (Return of the Goddess)
premiered at Savoy Theatre during
the Helsinki Festival 2012.
The new artist in residence
Chilean artist Ariel Bustamante is known for works
that break down traditional notions of sound art.
In his projects and research, Bustamante
concentrates on finding strategies to understand
physical and cognitive aspects of sound.
Bustamante’s residency will be from 2014 until 2015.
