Roger Arliner Young was the first African American woman to earn a PhD in Zoology, which she received from the University of Pennsylvania in 1940. She graduated from Howard University with a zoology degree in 1923 and went on to publish her first scientific paper in 1924 on the structure of Paramecium, becoming the first black woman to have work published. Throughout her career, Young conducted important research on topics such as the effects of radiation on sea urchin eggs and fertilization of marine organisms.
5. Published her first piece of work in September 1924. It was her first scientfic paper it was titled “On the Excretory Apparatus in Paramecium.” This paper explained the realtion and structure of a single celled fresh water animal. This paper was a big deal it made Roger the first young black women to ever be published, people said that this was just the beginging of a bright future.
6. 1927 Young and Dr.Just conducted research at Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory, there they studied fertilization.

8. In 1935 she finshed another paper titled “The Indirect Effects of Radition on Sea Urchin eggs,” which was published in the Biological Bullentin.
9. As a Zoologist and Biologist Young accomplished a great deal for a African American scientist. She contribuated a significant amount to science with her scienctfic research such as: paramecium, radition effects on sea eggs, the hydration/dehydration of living cells and the fertalization of marine organisms paved path for scienctist today to conduct more research.
