Why
Zarb?
Hofstra University
Frank G. Zarb
School of Business
4Four-Decade Tradition as an
AACSB International-Accredited
Institution
The Zarb School of Business has been accredited by AACSB International –
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for more than 40 years –
the longest accreditation period of any Long Island business school. Since 2001,
Hofstra’s accounting program has earned separate AACSB International accreditation.
Zarb is one of only four business schools in the New York metropolitan area with this credential.
4Growing List of International Rankings

Our 83 full-time professors come from all over the world and
bring to the classroom a breadth of knowledge and experience.
In the last five years, they have produced 352 articles in 190
different scholarly journals – an increase of more than 10 percent
from the preceding five-year period. Although scholarship is
strongly encouraged through generous research and travel grants,
excellence in teaching is of primary importance at the Zarb
School. All classes, both undergraduate and graduate, are taught
by professors – not teaching assistants – and classes are generally
small, allowing professors to truly engage their students.

undergraduate concentration in entrepreneurship and
graduate studies in areas such as real estate and taxation.
The curriculum is continually reevaluated to meet the
demands of a dynamic, global business environment.

of global business in technologically advanced
facilities.

the largest and most sophisticated Bloomberg-based
academic facilities in the world. It allows our

4 A Location That Can Be Leveraged
4 Impressive Alumni 4 Diverse, Driven Student Body
Students benefit from a multitude of internship and
full-time career opportunities in New York City –
just a 35-minute train ride away. Student groups also
enjoy visits to major business institutions throughout
the year. In October 2008, the day before the third and
final presidential debate held at Hofstra, a group of
students, faculty, administrators and trustees joined
Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz as he rang the
opening bell at NASDAQ.
Zarb School graduate students hail from 16 countries. Within the
undergraduate population, 51 U.S. states and territories and 73 countries
are represented. Our students have excelled at many national competitions,
including:
31st Annual American Marketing Association Collegiate Conference
Case Study Competition (2009)
The Hofstra chapter of the American Marketing Association
took third place in a national case study competition held in
New Orleans, Louisiana.
New York Mercantile Exchange Commodities Challenge (2008)
The Zarb School team was awarded second place after competing against
25 teams from 20 universities. Four individual team members placed
in the top 12 of 60 competing students − more than any other
school in the competition. In the process, Hofstra students took six
of the competition’s top 10 national placements.
District 2A American Advertising Federation Competition (2008)
The Zarb School team placed first among 10 other prestigious universities.
National Association of Black Accountants/Deloitte & Touche
Case Study Competition (2008)
The Zarb School team placed second in this case study competition.
Daniel T. Henry (M.B.A., 1974)
Executive Vice President and CFO,
American Express Company
The Zarb School provides a mix of sound
financial theory and real-world application
and benefits from its close proximity to
New York City. Zarb also focuses on the
importance of change management,
leadership and team-building skills, which
are critical in today’s business environment.
Edward G. Watson (M.B.A., 1989)
Executive Vice President of Operations and
Technology, FannieMae
As a graduate of the Zarb School of Business
and a manager of fellow graduates, I have a
fulsome perspective of the program. As a
graduate, the Zarb School of Business prepared
me for real-world challenges. As an employer
of Zarb graduates, I gain hard-working,
committed employees with the right balance
of quantitative and qualitative skills.
Diane Garnick (B.B.A., 1996)
Investment Strategist, Invesco Ltd.
I first walked onto the Hofstra campus as a
frightened, eager to learn young lady. During
my years there, I became more confident in my
ability to understand, and even solve, complex
problems. By the time I donned my cap and
gown, prepared to join the family of Hofstra
alumni, I knew I had a responsibility to
improve the world.
Reginald Andre (B.B.A., 2004)
Associate, Asset Management, Goldman Sachs
Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business
has a unique combination of talent and
enthusiasm in its students, expertise and
influence in its faculty, and industry knowledge
and reach in its alumni. The strengths and
capabilities of each active member in this
tightly knit community are easily accessible
and help to foster a rich student, faculty and
alumni experience.

One of the best ways to gauge the success
of any organization is by examining the
“product.” The Zarb School has produced a
multitude of leaders who have made significant
contributions to their respective fields. These
successful individuals often return to their
alma mater to share their experiences with
students and alumni at Zarb-sponsored events.

and student study in the field of international financial
services and markets, and communicates through the
hosting of conferences and symposia.

4 University Partnership
With the New York
Society of Security
Analysts (NYSSA)
The Zarb School is one of only 15 business
schools to have a university partnership
with NYSSA, the leading forum in the
investment community since 1937.
Zarb students also compete in the
“Investment Research Challenge,” which
teaches participants how to research and
report on a publicly traded company.
4 Strong Alumni Network
The learning experience at the Zarb School is enriched and
extended by a strong alumni network, which is nurtured
by the Zarb School of Business Alumni Association, a group
that represents all our B.B.A., M.B.A., M.S. and E.M.B.A.
alumni. Its goal is to enhance the national reputation of the
Zarb School and expand networking and professional development
opportunities for our alumni and students. Alumni networking
receptions are held periodically in New York City and have been
hosted by KPMG, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, and The Bank
of New York Mellon, among others.
4 Study Abroad Opportunities
Zarb students can choose to study at an international university
for a semester, full year or summer. During the summer,
Zarb-sponsored programs in China and Ireland offer students
the opportunity to learn global business firsthand. True to its
Dutch heritage, Hofstra University also has exchange programs
with the University of Amsterdam (for undergraduate students)
and Erasmus University (for graduate students).
For more information, visit hofstra.edu/zarbabroad.

  • 3. Our 83 full-time professors come from all over the world and bring to the classroom a breadth of knowledge and experience. In the last five years, they have produced 352 articles in 190 different scholarly journals – an increase of more than 10 percent from the preceding five-year period. Although scholarship is strongly encouraged through generous research and travel grants, excellence in teaching is of primary importance at the Zarb School. All classes, both undergraduate and graduate, are taught by professors – not teaching assistants – and classes are generally small, allowing professors to truly engage their students. 4 Engaged, Prestigious Faculty 4 Distinguished Professorships and Endowed Chairs The Bernon Family Endowed Distinguished Professorship in Business The Robert E. Reginald Andre (B.B.A., 2004) Associate, Asset Management, Goldman Sachs Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business has a unique combination of talent and enthusiasm in its students, expertise and influence in its faculty, and industry knowledge and reach in its alumni.
