2. Auger Sampler
UQS Lunar Regolith Samplers
Prototypes for the ARCh 2023 Space Resources and Excavation tasks | Nov 2022 - Present
Inspired by commercial agricultural soil
sampling units, the system augers
regolith into an interior cavity. Retracting
the auger allows a SG90 servo driven
hinge to open the base to expel a
collected sample.
Designed and assembled within one
week using 3D printed PLA, self-tapping
screws, inset nuts on the split clamp and
a press fit bearing for auger alignment.
Bucket Wheel Sampler
Bucket wheel system extends the entries
of the NASA RASSOR design challenge,
utilising a one-piece 3D printed drum
with a ramped internal geometry that
maximises capacity and prevents
regolith unintentionally escaping
Main pivot is powered by worm drive with
a custom encoder for position control
that connects to the 3D printed linear
actuator base. Fully enclosed 12V DC
gear motor used to drive the bucket
wheel rotation.
3. Overview
Customer was not satisfied with existing
aviaries due to their limited lifespan and
susceptibility to livestock damage
Taking the opportunity to improve my
general fabrication and construction
skills, a design was settled using:
25mm SHS gal steel
50 x 50 x 4.0/3.0mm weldmesh
Corrugated iron, flashing and ridge
cap
Treated pine battens and treated
hardwood sleepers
MIG welded the frame and mesh panels,
all structural and tac welds were spray
zinc coated to prevent corrosion
Fixed to an entrenched sleeper footing
for structural rigidity, predator
deterrence and again to prevent
corrosion
Future modifications will allow the
lightweight frame to be manoeuvred
around the paddock with a tow vehicle
Aviary Fabrication
Self guided project | Jan 2022 - Feb 2023

AYAA - AYAF 2022
Deputy Chair of the Australian Youth Aerospace Forum Organising Committee | April - July 2022
The AYAF is a five-day residential
conference that provides senior high
school students a unique opportunity
to explore pathways into the
aerospace industry
Oversaw all committee planning and
preparation including logistics,
sponsor acquisition and business
administration
Simultaneously led tours of UQ
Innovate, demonstrations of
equipment and organised the UQ
Space kit rocket event
Designed and manufactured student
trophies using waterjet cut and bent
3mm Al within 24hrs of first conception
38 of the original products designed
were later requested for the Biwak
KOSMOS Scout Camp
Continuing outreach projects remains
a fundamental goal for the
development of my engineering
