This document outlines the requirements for Project 2 of the CONSTRUCTED LANDSCAPE course. The project aims to introduce sustainable landscapes and green city planning. Students will work in groups to study examples of cultural landscapes and sustainability practices in various cities. Each group will also research a specific site in Malaysia to analyze its existing cultural landscape and how sustainability could be improved. Individually, students must explore enhancing sustainability within one or two elements of their assigned site, presenting their ideas in an A5 booklet. Submissions are due May 5th and must include a group presentation board and individual booklet.

Sustainable Landscape

Introduction
The aim of the second project is to introduce implementation of sustainable landscapes, technologies,
community and green cities planning. Student will need to select a site and explore how they can improve or
implement sustainable landscape on site.

Tasks
Phase 1A (Progressive Evaluation 30%)
In a group of 6 or 7 people, you are to conduct a case study on the green cities planning as listed below. In this
case study, each group will introduce the cultural landscape and implementation of sustainable landscapes,
technologies and green cities planning principles. Conduct a thorough research on the keywords of green cities,
community, sustainable cities and how it benefits the economy, social and environment.

2. Phase 1B (Progressive Evaluation 30%)
Each group will be given a site and each group leader should delegate works accordingly to ensure every group
members have the same workload and share information with the rest. Each group is given different location;
hence research about each neighbourhood context within more or less 5km radius. Research includes on the
interaction of spaces, human activity and their responses that can be relate to the given site. You also need to
study its existing cultural landscape, connectivity, circulation, context and built form of each area.

Phase 2: Presentation of Findings ( Group -10% and Individual- 10%)
Once you have map out all the information required. Transfer information in PHASE 1A & 1B into a concise
presentation format as mentioned in 1 A0 or 2A1 size boards. It can be in collage format or freehand
presentation format. Remember to keep it simple. At this stage we are going to evaluate your understanding of
the objective of the project and you should cover all required information of Phase 1A &1B.
Phase 3 : Individual Booklet ( Individual – 20%)
Individually, you will need to study ONE OR TWO elements such as parks, streetscapes, pocket parks, plazas,
playgrounds and waterfronts within the site given (radius of 5km-15km from station) in depth. You will explore
how you can improve its cultural landscapes and implement sustainable landscapes, technologies, community
involvement and green cities planning principles within the site. You are to design an A5 booklet (6 pages max.)
that introduces your site, ideas and how you can improve it to be more sustainable.
Submission Requirement
Phase 1 & 2: Data Collection Presentation of Findings : 1 A0 or 2 A1 Board
Individual : A5 Booklet – Minimum 6 page and maximum of 6 pages
Soft copy submission**: Scanned works in a CD format with proper cover and information
according to group and individual folders.
Submission date – 5th May 2014
Works submitted late will yield 10% mark reduction. For works submitted later than two working days,
no assessment will be done.
