1. To Whom It May Concern,
It is my pleasure to recommend Youssou Sy for acceptance to your institution for the upcoming
academic year. As the former IB Coordinator and instructor for Youssou’s English course, I can
attest to his character and intellectual capability.
Youssou is a student who is acutely aware of his priorities. He shows an international
understanding that is impressive for his age. On numerous occasions he exhibited the ability to
understand other cultures while also approaching his own Senegalese culture from an unbiased
perspective. In English class,he was quick to understand works like Arthur Miller’s The
Crucible, but more importantly, he was able to contribute relevant anecdotes and examples to
classroom discussion. He is a bright student who was always on point in class and who portrayed
a great deal of flexibility and academic ability.
Youssou also spent a great deal of time volunteering. He volunteered at Village SOS, a center for
orphaned children. Here, Youssou spent every Wednesday after school tutoring the children and
helping them with their school work. He also volunteered with the US Embassy’s Earth Day
neighborhood clean up event. Youssou embraces the idea of giving back to the community and
truly understands its importance. He often told me that his volunteer opportunities allowed him to
see how others live and made him thankful for everything that he has in life.
In addition to volunteering in the community, Youssou is also involved in other activities outside
the school. For example, he acted as editor for the school’s newsletter and participated in the
Cine-Club and the Philosophy club. Youssou also helped to organize school events like UN Day
and a school sports day. Youssou loves to be active and involved, and this shows both in and out
of his scholastic life.
Youssou has a great deal of potential, both in higher education and in his future career. He is a
rare talent who would make a welcome addition to your institution. Please feelfree to contact me
with any further questions.
Sincerely,
Alex J. Henderson
