7. • Using Crowdsourced approach
• First limited data points available in days
• More comprehensive data between 2 to 6 weeks
Unlike the traditional probe based approach of buying a retail SIM card from a roaming partner and
deploying in your country, we rely on hundreds of SIM cards from each roaming partner which are currently
in use by customers visiting your country. This approach allows us to provide better accuracy, faster report
delivery and better coverage than probe-based approach
How does SpeedChecker compile inbound roaming reports?
8. What is crowdsourcing ?
a method to gather active and/or passive measurements from
a large number of end-user devices
10. Benefits of crowdsourcing for Roaming
Crowdsourcing leverages extensive app partner
network which means we can get data from a greater
number of end user devices and therefore better
accuracy.
Data are collected on-demand according to client
specification
Since data is collected on demand, there is a lower
overhead in producing the data and solution is more
cost-effective
14. Inbound roaming report
• Quarterly reports compiled on the selected countries.
• On-demand reports (Global)
• 9 page report with analysis, data tables and charts
• Free sample reports available (limited view)
• Possibility to buy one-off reports or discounted rates for
longer commitments

Steering
17. What is Counter-Steering?
1: The VPMN sends fake Location Update messages over Signaling, faking that the other
operators have no coverage (not allowed)
2: The ‘GLR’ solution provides a virtual VLR, covering the whole network, even when the HPMN
subscriber moves from VLR A to B (allowed?)
• How to notice:
• Monitor Inbound Roaming usage
• Detect fake Location Update messages
Fight Counter Steering
18. • Identifies leakage of inbound roamers to a competing network and provides alerts for radio
coverage problems
• Identifies where inbound roamers left (VLR/MSC and Cell ID) and to which competing network
MSC
• Allows the VPMN to identify:
• GSM radio coverage holes and leakage trends
• HPMN steering actions
• Counter steering actions
• Signaling based / Drive Test
Inbound Roaming Leakage Analytics
19. • Virtual Home Environment (VHE)
• Call Correction (call direct from the phone book)
• Home Short Codes (voicemail)
• Customers are informed about tariffs and data consumption real-time
• Data Roaming Alerts / Missed Call Alerts
Benefits:
• Regains lost revenue via increased roaming call completion
• Boosts roamers satisfaction
Roaming Value Added Services
21. • BA.47 Roaming Customer Targeted Communications (RCTC) provides rules that operators
must follow when planning to market to incoming Roamers on their network
• Any communication needs to be approved by the HPMN

Roamingwise offers:
Thank you Janusz, glad to be here.
To introduce Roamingwise, we offer training and consultancy on Roaming. With regards to the training, these are basic and advanced courses, you can think of roaming essentials, latest trends, Roaming Commercials and IOT Discount Negotiation, Roaming Fraud and Revenue Assurance, but also technical topics like LTE and VoLTE Roaming and IREG / TADIG testing.
We have specialized trainers who are specialized in roaming finance and technical roaming.
We follow workgroups of the GSMA and these standards are included in the material.
These days we focus on online training, this can be in a group of one company, and we offer open online training seminars which are scheduled for this year.
On the consultancy part, we can be involved in helping set up roaming within for example an MVNO, perform Roaming Agreement negotiation, deliver a roaming audit or perform TADIG testing.
Why is it important to know your market share as an operator?
Total traffic, how this is distributed.
On this they can base their strategy
Interesting to know is the total traffic that is coming into the country and how it is distributed. This gives a better indication on the strategy the roaming coordinator should follow in negotiating its IOT. Knowing that you are operator 2 will give more of an impulse to do a better job in the negotiation. Trying to get partners to steer towards you or negotiating a traffic commitment. It may also be that network number 2 is not part of a group and the others are. It gives important strategic information.
Interconnect CDRs can be used in the analysis of the inbound roaming calls: Country based market share
On basis of MSISDN: operator based market share
Using TAP give the revenue impact: revenue based market share
Signalling: one notifies when there is a change on inbound roamers in the network (QoS) / Steering away?
Probes: many location updates, which network they connect on
Data points: This is the SpeedChecker solution. Speedchecker collects billions of data points from apps on mobile networks worldwide. This gives information about the network.
- We analyze the interconnect CDRs of following calls : Calls initiated from an inbound roamer in France (under any French operator) and terminated at an orange France number. This traffic gives us the market share / distribution per originating country : Country based Market Share.
- We cross-check with external database to identify cases of Number Portability : This gives us accurate input on originating operator : Operator based Market Share.
We can (optionally) process TAP files to get revenue impact : This gives Revenue based Market Share and financial impact of Market share change.
So let’s get right into it. What is crowdsourcing ? a method to gather active and/or passive QoS measurements froma large number of end-user devices – this definition is from ITU, E806. We have some of the authors of that standard today in the audience Zeid, Ayman, Tania – this is the first ITU recommendation that got approved and which has documented crowdsourcing as valid method do do QoS. Of course crowdsourcing was used before , that standard got approved last year, with the launch of smartphones with android/ios system and their penetration worldwide really enabled this new method to take-off.

The Virtual Home Environment consists of a series of applications designed to help subscribers, especially inexperienced subscribers, to use their phone as easily as possible while roaming
It does this by correcting the number that a roamer tries to dial. For example, a roamer might be used to dialing a short code to access voice mail at home. When he tries to do this whilst roaming, the VHE system recognizes where he has come from, and corrects the dialed number accordingly.
This can be automatically implemented, or instead the system can ask the subscriber, via a variety of methods, if he wants the number to be corrected.
In addition to correcting specific network short code numbers, the system can manage general numbers that the user might have dialed without, for example, using the appropriate international access codes.
Operator Benefits:
Increase the number of successfully completed calls
Boost roamers’ satisfaction
Continuous and feasible updates on short codes mapping database
Seamless operation to roamers
Roamer Benefits:
No need to remember international codes
Automatic correction eliminates the need to update phonebook
Analysis can give very valuable insights per country and even per group of inbound roamers. This gives information about untapped revenues.
