SUMMARY: THIRTEEN REASON WAY
Clay Jensen, a somewhat shy high school student, returns home from school one day to
find an anonymous package at the entrance of his home. Opening it, he discovers that it is
a shoebox with thirteen cassette tapes engraved by the late Hannah Baker, his classmate
who recently committed suicide. The tapes were initially sent to a classmate with
instructions to pass from one student to another, in the style of a chain letter. In the tapes,
Hannah explains to thirteen people how she played a role in her death, giving thirteen
reasons to explain why she took her life. Hannah has given a second set of tapes to one of
her classmates, the identity of who Clay later discovers, and warns the people in the tapes
that if they do not pass them in the second set it leaked to the totality of the students . This

the rumor that Hannah had allowed her to touch her bra, forever ruining Hannah's

Cassette 1B (Alex Standall): Met Hannah and Jessica in a coffee shop. He made a list of
the school girls where Hannah appeared as "the best ass" and Jessica as "the worst ass."
Hannah mentions that if he had not made that list, most of the stuff on the cassettes would
not have happened.
Cassette 2A (Jessica Davis): She and Hannah were forced to go on a date with their
counselor since they were both new, they went to the cafeteria where they met Alex, and
they were friends until they finally adapted to school. She had a relationship with Alex, but it
ended because of the rumors, that Hannah and Alex had a relationship behind her, and
she always blamed Hannah on that, and it got worse when Alex made the list, where
Hannah had better backside than Jessica.
Cassette 2B (Tyler Down): Tyler was a Voyeur who spied on Hannah through the window
of his room, and took pictures, Hannah discovered when he heard a camera ringing in his
window although he had no idea who he was and told Courtney , This one went to his
house to sleep and they incited it until finally they took him off guard, but they did not see
the face to him; The next day Hannah asked everyone "Where were you last night?" To
which Tyler replied "Me? Anywhere," which made Hannah discover it. Hannah mentions in

Cassette 3A (Courtney Crimsen): She is the popular girl in high school who only cares
about her reputation, so she uses other people. After Hannah married Hannah (to catch
Tyler), he completely ignored her, until he invited her to a party just to use her as a means
of transportation, which Hannah noticed. He invented that Hannah had perverted objects in
her room, so Hannah confronted her and dropped her off at the party.

finding her stunned, so she ignored him completely, making a fool of herself to her friends,
so she sought revenge, stole her motivational notes in The "Peer-to-Peer" class, at the
moment when Hannah was beginning to fall into depression. Hannah made a trap in which
she fell easily, so Hannah made a scene in the hallway of the school, being ignored by
Zach and going crazy in front of the school.
Cassette 4B (Ryan Shaver): He is the publisher of the Institute Magazine, and he
published papers that he found in the school, he was in a poetry group with Hannah, when
he and Hannah exchanged notebooks, he used to steal one of his Poems and publish it,

Hannah. He always watched Hannah, but he never dared to speak to her, even when he
