11. THE GET DOWN
The Get Down has finally premiered on Netflix today
with the first six episodes of its first season (the back half
of the season drops in 2017). It is if nothing else a
sprawling tale of New York City in the late 1970s, and in
particular the South Bronx, where music and culture —
already steeped in the disco era — were poised to birth
something called hip-hop into the world.
the series is set in the South Bronx region of
New York City in the late 1970s; its title refers to parts of
disco and R&B records that could be repeated using
multiple turntables and were enjoyed most by dancers
12. ONE TREE HILL
Half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott trade between kinship and
rivalry both on the basketball court and in the hearts of their friends
in the small, but not so quiet town of Tree Hill, North Carolina.
The main storyline in the early seasons is the relationship between
two half-brothers, Lucas and Nathan Scott, who start out as enemies
but bond as the show progresses. In the pilot episode, Lucas
becomes a member of the Tree Hill Ravens (the high school
basketball team) with the help of his uncle Keith. Nathan, the head
of the team, takes dislikes Lucas from the start, and this becomes
the basis of their rivalry. Lucas's romantic interest in Nathan's
girlfriend Peyton Sawyer also strengthens their feud. Peyton's best
friend Brooke Davis tries to date Lucas, and Nathan attempts to date
Lucas's best friend Haley James. The story of Lucas and Nathan's
father Dan Scott is occasionally explored through flashbacks, which
show his relationships with Karen Roe, Lucas's mother, and
Deb Scott, Nathan's mother, and how he ended up with one woman
rather than the other
13. 13 REASONS WHY
The series revolves around a high school student, Clay Jensen, and his
friend Hannah Baker, a girl who committed suicide after suffering a series
of demoralizing circumstances brought on by select individuals at her
school. A box of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah before her suicide
details thirteen reasons why she ended her life.
Teenager Clay Jensen returns home from school one day to find a
mysterious box lying on his porch. Inside, he discovers seven double-sided
cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and
unrequited love, who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On
tape, Hannah unfolds an emotional audio diary, detailing the thirteen
reasons why she decided to end her life. Her instructions are clear: each
person who receives the package is one of the reasons why she killed
herself. And after each person has completed listening to the tapes, they
must pass the package on to the next person. If anyone decides to break the
chain, a separate set of tapes will be released to the public. Each tape is
addressed to a select person in her school and details their involvement in
her eventual suicide
