TIME:ANGELS enable conversations that would otherwise
not have taken place.
We open up a much larger skill pool for the growth and
healthy development of startups.
Companies who join us get a strengthened network and a
large knowledge bank in the early development, when
there is often no budget to obtain resources with specific
competencies when the need arises.
Companies also gain more visibility and become more
accessible to the general public, regardless of industry,
product or service.
We make it possible for everyone to
become a part of a startup, regardless of
their experience, skills and industry.
All our angels are employees who want to
be inspired by entrepreneurs; those who
are considering becoming entrepreneurs;
researchers and students who want to
apply their theoretical knowledge in
practice; and all those who just want to give
back.
TIME: ANGELS´ events create a foundation
for increased diversity among
entrepreneurs and the people who
contribute to entrepreneurship.
In Denmark, entrepreneurs usually have access
to funding, free advice and mentoring. But what
is often missing from the newly started business
is:
experience
skills
and time
Mentors and advisors often come up with ideas
and initiatives that require time and new skills to
implement, and in this way the free advice very
quickly becomes expensive.
We need to rethink resources, increase
diversity and leverage the knowledge and
manpower available.
We need people who invest real work and not
just give advice.
That's why we have Time: Turners.
We strive for people to meet people when 5
startups and 30 Time Angels gather for an
evening without pitches and titles.
Every startup presents their company and
their greatest current challenge in smaller
groups of 5-6 Time Angels at a time.
It is a meeting at eye level without the classic
power split between those who need help and
those who have something to give.
The meetings are characterized by curiosity,
energy and mutual respect. Respect for those
who dare to put their ideas into practice and
respect for those who want to see it succeed.
Our angels say:
”Right after our first meeting with my startup I went home and
thought about how we run meetings internally in my
organization.”
”I have actually been on a course in intrapreneurship, disruption
and innovation as well, but being INSIDE a startup gives indeed a
completely different, specific learning.”
”I learn crazily lot in the process and I just realized how much I
really have to give.
”It´s a fantastic way to build up a relationship, where we can see
each other and learn from each other. Maybe there needs to be an
even closer relationship on the long run, but right now the
program gives us the opportunity to get to know each other.”
The initiative was founded by Xenia Duffy Obel, who after
fifteen years as a manager and startup mentor, and two years
as a startup advisor at Aarhus University, started wondering.
Why are most startup programs about entertaining the
viewers? Why do entrepreneurs have to spend so much time
pitching and selling themselves on stage? Is that the
competences required to succeed in executing a business?
What exactly do you do with 50.000 in cash, if you are about
to do something you have never done before?
Xenia has a large team of Time Angels behind her, who invest
their time every day to help her bring the TIME:ANGELS
movement into the world. We truly believe that we are making
a real difference to many entrepreneurs, who are out there
fighting to make their dream come true.
