From the 1920’s to Present day

2. A NEW JAZZ CULTURE
1920's Music featured Jazz, Ragtime
and Broadway Musicals.
Jazz music influenced all aspects of
society. Jazz poetry, fashion, and
industry were effected by the
"basement" music that took the
United States by storm.
3. ELECTRIC GUITAR JAZZ
In the 1940s, the major strands of
American music combined to form what
would eventually be coined as rock and
roll. Based most strongly off an electric
guitar-based version of the Chicago
blues, rock also incorporated
jazz, country, folk, swing, and other
types of music; in particular, bebop jazz
and boogie woogie blues were in vogue
and greatly influenced the music's style.
4. COUNTRY & ROCK
The decade of the Fifties gave birth
to Rock and Roll. When Bill Haley's
Rock Around The Clock became
popular in 1955, the nation learned to
swing to a whole new sound.
However, the 1960s also hosted
country and western music.
Ex. Elvis Presley & Johnny cash were
both popular in the 60s
5. DISCO
In the 1970s, disco had become one
of the biggest genres of the decade.
However, aside from disco, rock
music still thrived. Punk rock grew, as
did glam rock, hard rock, progressive
rock, art rock and heavy metal.
6. RISE OF
DANCE/TECHNO
MUSIC
The trends in the 80s favored
techno, pop and dance music. Disco
fell out of fashion by the early part of
the decade, however rock and jazz
remained popular genres.
7. MODERN MUSIC
Modern music mainly consists of
Rap, Rock, Techno and Dubstep.
Electronic music is now at the top of
the charts and taking over what is
called modern music. Artists like
LMFAO, rappers, and many other
famous composers all use electronics
as the main point of their music in
one way or another.
