Anger Management and Health
Everybody feels anger from time to time. People have been documented feeling anger since biblical times when God was considered angry. Babies
even exhibit signs that are interpreted as anger, such as crying or screaming. Anger is not in any way unique to people. Animals also have the ability to
feel and express anger.
In our personal lives we get angry over at least one thing on almost a daily basis, whether it be on the job, with a spouse or loved one, or perhaps with
a figure of authority. Many psychologists have written about anger, discussing the relationship between anger and fear. Each of the individuals that
comprise humanity possesses at least one phobia, in the same way that each

The authors of When Anger Hurts: Anger in Modern
Life explain the complications that chronic anger can create. Doctors have long suspected that anger increases the blood rate. Many scientists now
point out that norepinepherine, the drug that is secreted during anger, increases blood pressure as well. Anger and abnormally high blood pressure are
correlated; and high blood pressure leads to many forms of heart disease. In a recent study
1,623 patients were interviewed an average of four days after they had suffered a heart attack following an outburst of anger. The study showed that
the risk of suffering a heart attack is doubled after an outburst of anger. (3) The psychologist Franz Alexander's hypothesized in 1839 that
hypertesnisves lack basic assertive skills. Psychological studies have repeatedly backed
Alexander's assertion theory ever since. (4)
High blood pressure is said to be caused by uncontrolled anger, which in turn is caused by a lack of assertion. If we bottle up our anger now, then
we will feel it later. Eventually our arteries will grow weak and we will remain tense, living daily with treacherous moods and health. The alternative
is to shout out our anger at the world and let it manifest itself any way that it pleases. Of course, taking our anger out at the world can have even more
deleterious effects. People just don't like it when we demonstrate our anger.
Many of us are taught at an early age to bury our anger

Anger Management
Anger Management Education, founded in 1994, provided education and psychotherapy to individuals to help make sense of and manage anger in their
everyday lives (Anger Management 1). Anger remains a healthy emotion when expressed appropriately, although devastating effects may still exist.
Anger lies at the root of many personal and social problems, such as child abuse, domestic and community violence, physical and verbal abuse. Anger
also affects our physical health, by contributing to headaches, migraines, severe gastrointestinal symptoms, hypertension, and coronary artery disease.
Many of us do not have the knowledge or abilities required to express our anger as a healthy emotion. As a result, some of us store and...show more

Expressing your angry feelings in an assertiveâ non aggressive manner is the healthiest way to express anger (Controlling Anger 1). Others try
suppressing anger and then converting and redirecting it; this happens when you hold in your anger, stop thinking about it and focus on something
positive (1). Unexpressed anger can lead to pathological expressions of anger, such as passiveâaggressive behavior or a personality that seems
perpetually cynical and hostile (2). One treatment approach, Novaco's anger control model, aims to change an individual's cognitions or self talk and
addresses the affective component of family conflict (Stern 3). Psychotherapists specializing in anger management, teach you relaxation techniques like
yoga, meditation and deep breathing, and offer ways to view provoking situations in a calmer light (FoltzâGray 135). Experts say that you may not
always have a choice about how you feel, but you do have a choice about how you choose to react (Leopold 2).
Anger surrounds us everyday whether at work, school, or enjoying some free time alone. Hollywood producers know that all Americans can identify
with these feelings. "Anger Management", a movie starring Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson, clearly portray both the ups and downs of someone
with an angry personality (Corliss 73). The common theme in anger management programs is to control inappropriate or socially unacceptable
behavior. Feeling frustrated or

8. Since anger is the most dangerous emotion, anger management techniques are important.
Since they evolved, emotions are at least sometimes valuable when it comes to surviving and reproducing. One of their important functions is to
narrow our focus, which minimizes distractions when confronted with a problem. The price we pay for this is automatically filtering out information
inconsistent with the emotion we are experiencing and that information can be important.
The word 'anger' actually denotes a family of related experiences. They differ not only in strength (from very mild annoyance to rage) but in other
ways as well. Their target may be innerâdirected or outerâdirected. They may be active (revenge) or passive (sulking). Unless they are directed at
oneself, they usually have a selfârighteous or moral edge.
Anger can be useful in that it can motivate action. For example, you might attempt to right a wrong, to cure an injustice. Even if the behavior is violent
it may stimulate beneficial change.
Anger accelerates heart rate and increases blood pressure. It stimulates the familiar "fight or flight" response, and that response could fuel behavior that
saves your life.
Furthermore, anger can defend us against other emotions such as agony and fear. In fact, while many people find anger toxic, some hostile people
actually enjoy being angry.
Nevertheless, mastering effective anger management techniques is important. Being angry does not really feel good. Typically, you feel

9. Anger Management, Anger : Cause, Or Fear
Anger when an individual has a response that comes from being hurt, annoyed, frustration, disappointment or fear. Anger can be from irritation to
strong rage. It is a powerful emotion. It can be a positive and useful emotion. Individuals that are stressed are more likely to experience anger. (Better
Health, 2014 Department and Human Services) Two major ingredients to a person's anger are fear and a perception of being mistreated, or abused.
Anger is a natural fight or flight survival response to a real threat or abuse. (Pathways to happiness) Anger has been linked to causing health issues like
high blood pressure, heart problems, headaches, skin disorder, and digestive problems (Return, Thompson, 2012, Journal of Counseling and
Development. Poorly managed anger can also be linked to problems such as alcohol and drug abuse, crime, emotional and physical abuse and other
violent behavior.
Anger Management is when we are learning to control our feelings and trying to not let things bother us so much. Young people need to learn to
control themselves without harming themselves and others as they cannot control outside conditions and factors and other people's behaviors. The best
kind of Anger Management is Anger Prevention. Anger Prevention you go after the root causes that spark your anger. You learn to identify the
triggers of your anger. The forces that drive patterns of anger are beliefs, which are false beliefs.

Depression, alcohol abuse, aggressive behavior, and a variety of cardiovascular problems all have a connection to clinically dysfunctional anger.
Although there are treatments available, they are more geared to those with high motivation who has recognized his or her anger problem and is

enough, because the mass amount of clients receiving anger management will end it too soon. Social media exposes celebrities receiving anger
management, making people get an impression of the services and who engages in them. A positive outlook on this, can be that people see anger
management a venture they can see themselves or a person they know in. From a negative viewpoint, people can associate anger management as
inefficient and that it is to be avoided. By studying these possibilities, early intervention efforts can be made. In order to do so, an instrument must be

There are many reasons clients seek out, or are required to utilize the services offered by human service professionals. Often times, people will seek
help for one issue, only to learn there are other issues that need to be addressed if a solution is to be achieved. Woodside and McClam (2015) stated
human service helpers and professionals should always approach client issues with the expectation that the client, as a "whole person", will require
assistance with more than one issue if that client is to fully realize deliverance. It is the intention of this paper, utilizing the case of 24âyear old Isaiah,

also facing the possible loss of the woman he loves and his job at the same time. And thirdly, Isaiah is facing both a loss of income from not only
being suspended, but the potential of a total loss of employment coupled with legal fees and the cost of counseling. All of these issues mixed together,
no doubt, have Isaiah in a state where counseling alone would most likely be ineffective since it is virtually impossible for Isaiah to focus on one thing
alone.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
There is much research that has been done into the order in which the needs of individuals must be met if one is to achieve full understanding of one's
self. Woodside and McClam (2015) stated Abraham Maslow developed a scale, or pyramid that demonstrates how basic needs, such as housing, food,
and water must be met, forming the base of the pyramid, before the individual can or will ever strive to reach higher needs and eventually
selfâactualization. Isaiah, in this case, must have his basic needs met before Jane will ever have success in helping Isaiah reach the level of
selfâactualization. Understanding that Jane is a professional in her field, she will most likely help Isaiah find shelter in a place that will be suitable for
the shortâterm. Something like a halfway

people and avoid those who anger him. I also recommended for Chance to try to look for a less stressful job and if his anger worsens he may want
to consult a doctor because there are medications to help with anger (Psych Guides, 2017). I also recommended that Chance sees a doctor because
bad anger issues can be caused by genetic inheritance or a chemical imbalance which causes a weak reaction to the serotonin gene (Mayo Clinic,

anger are: breathing deeply, thinking of a happy place, and walking away from a situation before someone completely explodes. Also, after talking
with Chance, I realize he finds his job extremely stressful and not enjoyable at all. Job stress can cause negative reactions towards others and anger
outbursts (Psych Central, 2016). Because of this information, I recommended that Chance try to understand others at work instead of just lashing out.

Essay: 3. could anger management be used to deal with most violent criminals? Discuss
Anger management commonly refers to a system of therapeutic psychological techniques and exercises by which someone with excessive or
uncontrollable anger can reduce or control the triggers, degrees, and effects of an emotional angered state. The term violent crime is interoperated as a
crime in which an offender uses violent force or threatens the victim. This entails both crimes in which the violent act of the offender is the objective

Different kinds of violent dispositions are a result of a different combination of personal features. Each individual has different degrees of a violent

such as murders, sex offenders, rapists and child abuses, should not be allowed to participate in anger management classes to deal with their offence,
instead should be sentenced in a maximum prison sentence for the offence they committed.
There was a servery taken out in south Australia where (Walker 1990) they found that 1 in 6 offenders taken to prison were only there for

"Anger Management"
I hear some people say that they got so angry they lost control and didn't know what they were doing. I often wondered what that must be like. I,
being a very passive person, have never lost control when I've become angered. I've always had total awareness of my situation. In the movie "Anger

Ah blow it out your a$#. Now he starts screaming
"WHAT! WHAT WAS THAT! WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?"
Normally I would have ignored him. I always let things slide. I don't like getting all worked up over something stupid.
I don't know what came over me. He must have pushed all the right buttons, because all of a sudden, I didn't seem so hot anymore. The aches and
pains were gone and theirs this tremendous burst of energy in every part of my body. I turned to face him and replied at the top of my lungs,
"I SAID, BLOW IT OUT YOU'RE A$#"
With no delay, he replied:
"I'M GOING TO COME OVER THERE AND F#*K YOU UP"
To my surprise, he found even more buttons to push. Now my whole body is on fire. Lasers beams are emitting from my eyeballs. I look at him and
he's standing there, swinging his fist around like he's winding then up or something. So I put both my hands behind my back and start walking
