Narrative Essay About Having A Dream
Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched
either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we
believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep
it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just
that. A dream.
Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case.
My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content...
She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and
came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but
it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit
on my dreams.
Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother
struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never
pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true.
Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in
her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only
about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty.
Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from
her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen.

The Nativist theory believes there is a biological approach to language development through the genetic makeup of all humans while proposing this
theory is a miracle. Chomsky argued to gain language cannot be the sole aid for learning as language itself is complex. Therefore, proposing infants
when born have an innate mechanism called the Language Acquisition Device (LAD). In addition, found hard–wired into the brain with the 'capacity to
create and understand' (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p. 49) universal grammatical rules to 'generate grammar'. Know as universal grammar (UG). Also
suggesting this ability makes children receptive to a set of principles that all languages have distinct 'verbs and nouns' (Khan Academy, 2017), and
similar logic in the way people think. While the rules of Language from which we build phrases links to the 'Syntax' (Hill, 2012, p.22) language unit.
The Nativist theory views children's capacity to learn their native language has a 'critical period' (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p.49), being between
birth and eight years old (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014 p.49; Khan Academy, 2017).
An example of expressing a grammatical rule through the Syntax unit of language 'is concerned with the system of constructing sentences' (Swinburne
Online, 2017). In theory, it looks like, subject–verb–object, word order in life would look like, 'I want drink' (Swinburne Online, 2017). The

Nature Of Religion Essay
Religion is defined into three main parts: 1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity
or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life, 2. System: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to
the divine and 3. Personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly–held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by. Each human being has their own
view on religion and this is seen throughout the findings and is stated in the answer s to the analysis questions.
Were your questions relevant and did they provide you with the information referring to religion and the meaning of life?
The questions used in the questionnaire are:...show more content...
It also seems that the Uniting Church member (appendix 7) is more laid back in regards to a structured religion, worship and his views.
Was there a common response in people's answers?
A common response from the people surveyed comes under the question what are your beliefs on afterlife/heaven and do they affect your daily
life? All people surveyed had the same belief in there was an afterlife/heaven whether it be in reincarnation or proceeding straight into heaven. Some
answers varied to how it affects their lives. One answer (appendix 8) stated that it does not affect her daily life as she only lives in the present and is
not concerned with what happens after. Appendix 7 refers to the 'what goes around comes around' theory and he lives his daily life treating others as if
it were to come back around to him. This theory is also present in many of the Roman Catholic followers answers and hence the connections to
Christianity. It is seen in the findings that people believe to make it into a heaven/afterlife you have to live your life loving each other and caring for
others. This may be from the phrase that Jesus stated 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself' (Matthew 22:36–40). It is also clear that the older age
group of people try to live their lives by following the 10 commandments as the people surveyed made references to the commandments. This is
probably from their young life upbringing and the way the church

Narrative Essay About My Dream
When people ask me, "what's your earliest memories?" I always have this weird response. Whether it was a dream I had when I was little, or truly
experiences from the womb, who knows. Yet they still remain vivid in my mind. I can imagine myself "popping into existence" and just floating in a
void, no realization of my body, just me existing. But even then I knew I was someone special, someone set apart from the rest. For what reasons I
had no clue of yet.
At the time of my birth, my parents were here over in the states in Wisconsin, though at the time they were living in Japan, as my dad was serving as an
air traffic controller at the military base and my mom being an en I remember virtually nothing from Japan, as when I was only...show more content...
Following the service, we'd head downstairs for snacks and coffee. I didn't dare taste that filthy coffee, but I could easily grab myself some of my
mom's homemade cherry coffeecake and some little debbies' snacks. While all the other adults would make small talk above us, us little kids would
goof around and play. Except I often didn't play with the others, I'd find myself a good corner and focus my attention intently on one individual toy.
This is how playtime usually went for me. I studied the physics and used my senses to gather information about the toy.
After that little bit of time, it would be time for Sunday school over at the parsonage. There the pastor's wife, with her short white hair would have
worksheets–o–plenty for us to fill out as she taught the lesson. We'd learn about Adam and Eve, Noah, David, Jonah, Jesus, Paul...all the typical
Biblical characters you'd imagine. Of course they were a bit sanitized to get rid of the messiness that was portrayed in the Bible due to our age, but it
was mostly the same message. Though sometimes, we'd get lucky and get to watch a VHS of Veggietales or Superbook!
Afterwords, since most of the time my parents were finishing up in Bible study, I'd go lay on the grass in front of the church and gaze up into the
clouds. I'd try to come up with shapes that were forming as I'd listen to the loud buzz of all the cars driving on the freeway right by us (yes, the church

Nataraja of Shiva Essay
When I went to Museum of Metropolitan of Art, I saw many interesting works of arts. I was so amazed by all of the art–work. It was a tough decision
to choose one work to focus on for my art paper, but there was one sculpture that caught my eye; it was Nataraja of Shiva (11th century) from
Ancient Southeastern Art located on the 2nd floor of the museum. The main message of this sculpture is focused on the idea of the boundaries of
cosmos and the destruction and rebirth of the world. This paper will employ close visual analysis of this sculpture and describe how the visual
elements of the work relate to its main theme. In my opinion, this sculpture is very beautiful and I was so surprised to find it in the museum. As I was

Chola Dynasty, which is also known as one of the greatest periods in Asia for sculpture. This time period was also well–known for bronze sculptures
but this particular sculpture in Met was copper alloy probably because from my knowledge, at that time, copper was better for carving and sculpting
but now a days, there are paintings of the Nataraja that are colorful, too (with a lot of colors, and much easier to see and understand). Also, being that
it was copper to me it looked a little dull because I have seen the sculpture in the different colors, shapes and sizes. There are many other brass
figures depicting Shiva as Lord of the Dance in different postures of the dance. When these sculptures were made only fortunate classes such as
royals and priest could view the deities and people who were poor wasn't able to. But now, everyone can see it, and have it. The pose, Shiva with his
four arms is called "tribhanga in Bharantanayam" (another classical dance of South India). From my observation at the Met, this sculpture is inside a
medium glass and space. Also, it is by itself in the glass. It is a three–dimensional sculpture created by modeling and merging hard materials. Next to it
there are other deities (Vishnu, Parvati, Ganesh etc.) and sculptors from the Chola Dynasty. The other works near it complements the sculpture as I
have stated above they are from the same time period so, they are related to each other some way and

Narrative Essay About My Birthday
It is April 4th. It is my 21 birthday.21 years ago I was born and got named Thea. My mom Emily, dad James, sister Maddison, and brother Liam are
coming over to celebrate my birthday. There are a few things I must do before they come.
The first thing I need to do is order a medium pizza and some wings for my family, We are big fans of pizza and wings. My family said that they would
get me a cake. I am excited to see what it looks like. They also said that they had a big surprise for me. I am really curious about what they got me but
also nervous.
It is finally 4pm. My family should be arriving soon. I hear a knock on the door and assume it is my family. I rush to the door and open it.
" Hi Thea how are you doing ?" says my mom while walking in
" I am doing great, just have been waiting for you guys to arrive"
My mom sets down a medium white size box.My mom looks at me and says
"You should take a look at your cake" in a very eager voice. I waked to the box where my cake was and opened it slowly. I am amazed with design. It
was a very detailed looking Kawasaki ninja motorcycle you could see parts of the motor which made it look realistic. I was so happy with how it
looked.I turned around and my mom was still looking at me, so I said
" Thanks mom it looks really cool with all the details."
We all sat down and talked. We talked about how everyone has been. My sisters school and my brothers new job. While we were talking there was
another knock on the door. I went to go open the door and it was the pizza and the wings. I payed for them and grabbed the boxes and walked into
the kitchen where my family was. Everyone was really hungry but my family really wanted me to see the big surprise they got for me. SO we
agreed we would go outside to see what they got me. We went outside when I saw what they got me I almost cried in joy. My family got me the
same looking motorcycle that was on my cake. It was a black Kawasaki Ninja 2017. It had a nice leather seat. The lights were bright white and it was
really shinny. But I had one question.
"How did you guys afford to buy it ?"
" We all payed a part of it" said my brother Liam
There was only one problem. There was a part on the motorcycle where the paint was

Relationship Narrative: Personal Narrative Essay
The fairy tales say that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Reality is not that simple. Long–term
relationships force couples to get to know each other, involve themselves in each others' worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop
deeper connections through distinctive stages of Knapp's relationship model. Although I have dated the same person for over two years, the stages of
our communication make it seem as though I am now dating a different person following dissolution and subsequent repair. However, even the most
exhilarating of roller coaster rides develop through a combination of ups and downs, much like the stages of a relationship. Initial contact came the

After our relationship moved beyond involvement, his protective instincts overpowered everything. I actually welcomed this protection as a sign
of his caring for me since I always wanted a guy to protect me from conflict, just like in the movies. However, this overprotection stifled me and
made me feel guilty whenever my communications with another guy made John jealous and angry. He tested my feelings for him by making me
feel guilty about even looking in the direction of other guys. At the time, I ignored his jealousy because my strong feelings for him overshadowed
my own needs as an individual. Looking back, I realize our involvement actually intensified, for the better and the worse. John evolved into my best
friend and, wrapping myself in his world, I lost my core group of friends. We had reached interpersonal commitment. All of my time belonged to
John. We went to events and hung out according to his time frame, with little consideration for my time. All John needed to say was "no, I don't want
to do that," and I respected his decision. Looking back, I realize how little John respected me. Our relationship grew in predictability as we learned
each other's schedules, emotions, and family habits. Dates always went the same way, involving dinner with his family followed by a rented movie.
Our interactions never involved social bonding beyond our families. Instead, moments of novelty, like rock

War Story- Personal Narrative Essay
War Story– Personal Narrative Finally we got a well deserved break from what seemed like our endless marching. As we stopped pain shot up my
left leg like a bullet. I looked automatically to my right. Nobody was there. My best friend Simon would usually stand there, as he had in the war
before, I could imagine the grin on his face. The images of all those years ago started to play in my mind...
It began when we were assembled in the safety of the trench. Then we heard those dreaded words that can make a man throw up with fear for his life.

Then, turning my head again I saw Simon dive to my aid. He did not utter a single word but just gave a faint grin then promptly looked down at my
leg and set to work. He freed me and with a little help I made it to the safety of the next shell hole. I owed him my life.
Simon refused to stop. He climbed up again to help the others. I tried to tug him back but my efforts were worthless; seen as I was wounded. Gun
shots and shell fire pounded my ears like a right hand from a heavy weight boxer. I will never forget the next sound I heard. I knew it was the end so I
looked up at the morning sun and prayed towards the heavens. I could hear the screams penetrating throughout my mind.
Now I'm standing here about to march on to fight in another war, fighting for my dear friend. When will man kind learn? Now, however, I fear this
time I might not be so lucky, especially now, without Simon, who I did not even get a chance to thank for saving my life. Now I try to put the
thoughts out of my mind with a tear in my eye turning away from the other soldiers so they cannot see.
I can see a large church in front of me and can hear the sounds of children playing. I begin to think about the contrast. The young, blameless children
playing happily with each other only a short distance away from where us, the adults are contemplating what lies ahead hideously slaughtering the

A Narrative Essay About Moving To A New Country
Bags and bags of packages were traveling to the opposite side of the world during the summer of 2009, and it was time to get settled down again, in an
unfamiliar environment. It was strange when I took my first step into this new country––a place where I have never been to before.
Three weeks later, school in elementary was starting. It was awkward for me to go to school, due to the reason of me being shy and still not used to
the new environment, I did not know any English at that time, and wasn't able to communicate with anyone, I was only capable of communicating
through my body languages. It was stressful not being able to say things that I wanted to say, but people were nice to me, and as time goes by, I'm

I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready
when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''.
I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed
jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all the

Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is
something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust,
manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of.
There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were
alphabetically permitted to choose a horse, and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly. She
was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw
the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he had a
striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. I had an instant connection with him, and proclaimed his name as Cashmere.
As I lead Cashmere towards the indoor riding arena, my heart raced. The inconsistent sound hoofs trotting along the cobbled ground were intensifying.
As I stroked Cashmere's muzzle and gave him a mint polo (he's favourites), I began to mentally prepared myself to mount, and ride him.

How Navratri Changed My Life
"Son, I doubt you will find a girl of your choice!" My mom said these words on a lighter note when I said, "I won't learn how to dance, I am afraid of

THOUGHT to practice dancing because I wanted to keep her happy. However, the more I danced the more I enjoyed it and within two days I danced
with my mother during a festival called Navratri. Dancing with her gave me an experience I never knew before. I didn't dance that great but, I felt more

In his "On a Book Entitled Lolita", Vladimir Nabokov recalls that he felt the "first little throb of Lolita" run through him as he read a newspaper article
about an ape who, "after months of coaxing by a scientist, produced the first drawing ever charcoaled by an animal: this sketch showed the bars of the

Through his language, he creates a distance between Dolores and Lolita, between the child and the "solipsized" creature upon whom he can "safely"
impose his sexual desire. Humbert's version is a blend of several tightly connected, often conflicting personal images. Some are the products of his
own imagination, while others stem from classic works of literature or popular songs. He makes no effort to separate these images, but shifts rapidly
from one to another as the narrative demands. They come together to form a new Lolita, one who is only Humbert's projection of the original, one who
possesses only those qualities that he imposes upon her, and who shows no evolution beyond that which he allows her.
Lolita's primary frame, and the most persistently reductive, is that of the nymphet. Humbert claims that this category is not his own creation but a
specific natural quality to which he has assigned a clever name. It is well defined, if difficult to accurately describe, and it pre–exists its members:
Between the age limits of nine and fourteen there occur maidens who, to certain bewitched traveler... reveal their true nature which is not human, but
nymphic (that is, demoniac); and these chosen creatures I propose to designate "nymphets".... Between those age limits, are all girl–children nymphets?

Narrative Essay On A Journey
Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it gives you a goal or task that you want to
accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you
are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons
challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end. For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've
always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons and how to stay focused on what really matters.
My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always want to play but didn't know how. I would always
ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new instrument.
However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he
practiced, so I decided to join the class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand the notes
because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit. However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by
day. Overtime, I learned that you can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how progress is important
to reach my end goal.
I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play
guitar while learning new and more songs to play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another reason I
stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought
that I would never be able to play an instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the

At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading.
Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very
basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the
severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my

You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's
part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very
different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write
because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally.
To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have
to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing
assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar.
The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class
simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to
write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the

Personal Narrative: White Water Rafting
I remember a time in my life not too long ago when my family and I went white water rafting for the first time. We had been spending some of our
summer vacation at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains, close to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The next day we would experience feelings of exhilarating
excitement, with a sense of suspense and anticipation as we rafted down the Nantahala River.
I recall in vivid detail the scenery around us as we embarked on our perilous journey down the Nantahala. We arrived at the drop–off point in the early
afternoon the next day. The sweet smell of fresh pine trees was floating in the air and a soft midsummer breeze was brushing against our faces. After

The water was icy cold, cold enough to make you tremble to the bone. I don't think water surrounding an iceberg in the arctic could have been any

Our raft almost sank a few times because of the constant splashing of water into our raft. Each time we passed a stretch of rapids, and especially
when we made it to the top of each fall a sense of anticipation would come over me I didn't know what would happen next. There was always a
chance that our raft might hit a boulder and flip, or that someone might fall out. We were always passing these jagged rocks and giant boulders
that could have easily flipped our raft or got us stuck. Some of the rocks were sharp enough to give you a bad gash or even break a bone if you hit
them with enough force. Many rafts floating aside us were caught on big boulders, and they had a hard time getting there raft loose and back in the
water. There were only one or two very unfortunate groups of people that had the misfortune of accidentally flipping their rafts. Our guide kept
screaming out orders telling us which way to paddle or lean to keep us from flipping. Luckily, we never did.
Finally, after rafting for what seemed like an hour, we reached the last fall. It was by far the largest and most dangerous on the entire river. Towering
high above all the other falls, it stood apart from the

The Magnitude of Ramadan Essay
The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Islamic life. First off, a Muslim must have faith in Allah and believe that there is only one Allah and
Muhammad is His messenger. Next, a Muslim has the duty to pray five times each day, which is considered to be a direct link between him and Allah.
Third, a Muslim must distribute alms and help the needy. Fourth, a Muslim is responsible to keep the Fast of Ramadan. Lastly, a Muslim is obligated
to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in his lifetime. Most non– Islamic people do not know why these pillars are so important to the Islamic religion. One of
the most questioned, is the fourth pillar, since fasting symbolizes such different things in all religions. In Judaism and Christianity fasting is...show more

It is very significant that a Muslim spends a lot time with his family and friends, throughout this month, and realizes what is truly important in his life.
Many more Muslims attend Mosques during Ramadan because they believe that Allah will help them understand the essentials of life.
Throughout Ramadan all Muslims are strictly obligated to pray five times each day and, in addition, attend Mosque and have a nightly prayer, called
Taraween, which is two to three times as long as the usual daily prayers. Along with praying, Muslims celebrate significant days in the month. "On the
evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat–al–Qadr (the Night of Power)" (Zahid). This night is
Jafari 3 celebrated because it is believed by all Muslims that it was the night that Muhammad first received the revelation of the Quran and the night
when Allah determines the future of the world for the next year. By celebrating nights like this along with praying at home and in a Mosque, a Muslim
becomes much closer to Allah and in return gets to know their own identity much better. Reading out of the Quran and worshipping Allah is one of the
most important things to do during the Fast of Ramadan.

Essay On Bhagavad Gita
Chapter 3: The Bhagavad–Gita
The Bhagavad–Gita is considered as one of the oldest religious writings in the whole world. Hindus believe that it contains God's message, similar to
the Bible and the Quran. In general, this scripture is a dialogue between the Supreme God and one of his devotees. This conversation was originally
recorded in Sanskrit, but it has been translated to many languages over the years. This particular religious scripture is full of ancient myths, legends,
traditions, and other writings. Its content is closely connected to Krishna's life here on earth.
Brahman lived on earth as Krishna in order to defeat evil and encourage humans to practice dharma (i.e. righteous living). He left his message in the
form of Bhagavad–Gita so that humans will have a clear guideline as to how to live their lives. The conversation between Krishna and Arjuna can play
an important role in minimizing the pain and suffering experienced by every human being.
The core principles of the Bhagavad–Gita serve as the foundation of Hinduism. Its pages contain Brahman's message regarding faith, detachment,
devotion, correct knowledge, and performance of tasks. It also contains valuable lessons on how to avoid an ego–centered life. This kind...show more

Each Hindu should know the difference between his true and false self if he wants to attain liberation from Maya. The last secret focuses on Brahman's
omnipresence. Each individual needs to live his entire life knowing that everything is but a small part of the Supreme

My Dream of Becoming a Lawyer and Singer

  • 1. Narrative Essay About Having A Dream Everyone has a dream. Whether it's small or big...we all have one. We also give up on them. We get stuck in the idea that our ideas are too far–fetched either because of other people's comments or because of our own self–doubt. We allow ourselves to forget about them and move on to things we believe are better for us. To things that although don't make us happy, are what society tells us is the right way to live. It's hard to have adream and keep it. The world we live in today is so cruel that a lot of times we don't even bother to dream anymore. We've gotten to the point where dreaming is just that. A dream. Yet, for my mom, that wasn't the case. My mother was born on March 24, 1973, in a small village in Guatemala. She grew up there...show more content... She sat me down and said well why not do both. I remember when she said that I was so happy. We began to think of how I could do both and came up with the idea of a singing lawyer. It was probably the worst idea we've ever had. I don't even think it would have worked out well either, but it was the fact that I could have done it and my mom would be completely okay with it and made it seem perfectly normal that helped me to never quit on my dreams. Her experience growing up wasn't at all how she made mine. Her mother and step father never encouraged or supported her. Growing up my mother struggled a lot. She had to grow up a lot faster than most kids and had to deal with the real world way before she should have had to. She was never pushed to do better or told that her dreams could come true. Since she was little she was always having to take care of her three sisters. She wasn't allowed to go out a lot so she was always home studying or in her room. She was so restricted in her own home that even now I can't imagine how terrible that must have felt. To constantly have to worry not only about yourself but for other people when you haven't even reached puberty. Her stepfather was the worst of all. He would always put her down and would try to make her feel like nothing. She didn't even have protection from her own mother, because her mom would never say anything about it. She just let it happen. My mom Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. The Nativist theory believes there is a biological approach to language development through the genetic makeup of all humans while proposing this theory is a miracle. Chomsky argued to gain language cannot be the sole aid for learning as language itself is complex. Therefore, proposing infants when born have an innate mechanism called the Language Acquisition Device (LAD). In addition, found hard–wired into the brain with the 'capacity to create and understand' (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p. 49) universal grammatical rules to 'generate grammar'. Know as universal grammar (UG). Also suggesting this ability makes children receptive to a set of principles that all languages have distinct 'verbs and nouns' (Khan Academy, 2017), and similar logic in the way people think. While the rules of Language from which we build phrases links to the 'Syntax' (Hill, 2012, p.22) language unit. The Nativist theory views children's capacity to learn their native language has a 'critical period' (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014, p.49), being between birth and eight years old (Fellowes & Oakley, 2014 p.49; Khan Academy, 2017). An example of expressing a grammatical rule through the Syntax unit of language 'is concerned with the system of constructing sentences' (Swinburne Online, 2017). In theory, it looks like, subject–verb–object, word order in life would look like, 'I want drink' (Swinburne Online, 2017). The 'Developmental Milestones' (Community Child Care Co–operative Ltd, 2015) supports this example Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Nature Of Religion Essay Religion is defined into three main parts: 1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life, 2. System: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine and 3. Personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly–held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by. Each human being has their own view on religion and this is seen throughout the findings and is stated in the answer s to the analysis questions. A common response from the people surveyed comes under the question what are your beliefs on afterlife/heaven and do they affect your daily life? All people surveyed had the same belief in there was an afterlife/heaven whether it be in reincarnation or proceeding straight into heaven. Some answers varied to how it affects their lives. One answer (appendix 8) stated that it does not affect her daily life as she only lives in the present and is not concerned with what happens after. Appendix 7 refers to the 'what goes around comes around' theory and he lives his daily life treating others as if it were to come back around to him. This theory is also present in many of the Roman Catholic followers answers and hence the connections to Christianity. It is seen in the findings that people believe to make it into a heaven/afterlife you have to live your life loving each other and caring for others. This may be from the phrase that Jesus stated 'Love your neighbor as you love yourself' (Matthew 22:36–40). It is also clear that the older age group of people try to live their lives by following the 10 commandments as the people surveyed made references to the commandments. This is probably from their young life upbringing and the way the church Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Narrative Essay About My Dream When people ask me, "what's your earliest memories?" I always have this weird response. Whether it was a dream I had when I was little, or truly experiences from the womb, who knows. Yet they still remain vivid in my mind. I can imagine myself "popping into existence" and just floating in a void, no realization of my body, just me existing. But even then I knew I was someone special, someone set apart from the rest. For what reasons I had no clue of yet. At the time of my birth, my parents were here over in the states in Wisconsin, though at the time they were living in Japan, as my dad was serving as an air traffic controller at the military base and my mom being an en I remember virtually nothing from Japan, as when I was only...show more content... Following the service, we'd head downstairs for snacks and coffee. I didn't dare taste that filthy coffee, but I could easily grab myself some of my mom's homemade cherry coffeecake and some little debbies' snacks. While all the other adults would make small talk above us, us little kids would goof around and play. Except I often didn't play with the others, I'd find myself a good corner and focus my attention intently on one individual toy. This is how playtime usually went for me. I studied the physics and used my senses to gather information about the toy. After that little bit of time, it would be time for Sunday school over at the parsonage. There the pastor's wife, with her short white hair would have worksheets–o–plenty for us to fill out as she taught the lesson. We'd learn about Adam and Eve, Noah, David, Jonah, Jesus, Paul...all the typical Biblical characters you'd imagine. Of course they were a bit sanitized to get rid of the messiness that was portrayed in the Bible due to our age, but it was mostly the same message. Though sometimes, we'd get lucky and get to watch a VHS of Veggietales or Superbook! Afterwords, since most of the time my parents were finishing up in Bible study, I'd go lay on the grass in front of the church and gaze up into the clouds. I'd try to come up with shapes that were forming as I'd listen to the loud buzz of all the cars driving on the freeway right by us (yes, the church was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Nataraja of Shiva Essay When I went to Museum of Metropolitan of Art, I saw many interesting works of arts. I was so amazed by all of the art–work. It was a tough decision to choose one work to focus on for my art paper, but there was one sculpture that caught my eye; it was Nataraja of Shiva (11th century) from Ancient Southeastern Art located on the 2nd floor of the museum. The main message of this sculpture is focused on the idea of the boundaries of cosmos and the destruction and rebirth of the world. This paper will employ close visual analysis of this sculpture and describe how the visual elements of the work relate to its main theme. In my opinion, this sculpture is very beautiful and I was so surprised to find it in the museum. As I was growing up in...show more content... Chola Dynasty, which is also known as one of the greatest periods in Asia for sculpture. This time period was also well–known for bronze sculptures but this particular sculpture in Met was copper alloy probably because from my knowledge, at that time, copper was better for carving and sculpting but now a days, there are paintings of the Nataraja that are colorful, too (with a lot of colors, and much easier to see and understand). Also, being that it was copper to me it looked a little dull because I have seen the sculpture in the different colors, shapes and sizes. There are many other brass figures depicting Shiva as Lord of the Dance in different postures of the dance. When these sculptures were made only fortunate classes such as royals and priest could view the deities and people who were poor wasn't able to. But now, everyone can see it, and have it. The pose, Shiva with his four arms is called "tribhanga in Bharantanayam" (another classical dance of South India). From my observation at the Met, this sculpture is inside a medium glass and space. Also, it is by itself in the glass. It is a three–dimensional sculpture created by modeling and merging hard materials. Next to it there are other deities (Vishnu, Parvati, Ganesh etc.) and sculptors from the Chola Dynasty. The other works near it complements the sculpture as I have stated above they are from the same time period so, they are related to each other some way and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Narrative Essay About My Birthday It is April 4th. It is my 21 birthday.21 years ago I was born and got named Thea. My mom Emily, dad James, sister Maddison, and brother Liam are coming over to celebrate my birthday. There are a few things I must do before they come. The first thing I need to do is order a medium pizza and some wings for my family, We are big fans of pizza and wings. My family said that they would get me a cake. I am excited to see what it looks like. They also said that they had a big surprise for me. I am really curious about what they got me but also nervous. It is finally 4pm. My family should be arriving soon. I hear a knock on the door and assume it is my family. I rush to the door and open it. " Hi Thea how are you doing ?" says my mom while walking in " I am doing great, just have been waiting for you guys to arrive" My mom sets down a medium white size box.My mom looks at me and says "You should take a look at your cake" in a very eager voice. I waked to the box where my cake was and opened it slowly. I am amazed with design. It was a very detailed looking Kawasaki ninja motorcycle you could see parts of the motor which made it look realistic. I was so happy with how it looked.I turned around and my mom was still looking at me, so I said " Thanks mom it looks really cool with all the details." We all sat down and talked. We talked about how everyone has been. My sisters school and my brothers new job. While we were talking there was another knock on the door. I went to go open the door and it was the pizza and the wings. I payed for them and grabbed the boxes and walked into the kitchen where my family was. Everyone was really hungry but my family really wanted me to see the big surprise they got for me. SO we agreed we would go outside to see what they got me. We went outside when I saw what they got me I almost cried in joy. My family got me the same looking motorcycle that was on my cake. It was a black Kawasaki Ninja 2017. It had a nice leather seat. The lights were bright white and it was really shinny. But I had one question. "How did you guys afford to buy it ?" " We all payed a part of it" said my brother Liam There was only one problem. There was a part on the motorcycle where the paint was

  • 8. Relationship Narrative: Personal Narrative Essay The fairy tales say that once upon a time a girl met a boy; they fell in love, and lived happily ever after. Reality is not that simple. Long–term relationships force couples to get to know each other, involve themselves in each others' worlds, fight through the hard times, and eventually develop deeper connections through distinctive stages of Knapp's relationship model. Although I have dated the same person for over two years, the stages of our communication make it seem as though I am now dating a different person following dissolution and subsequent repair. However, even the most exhilarating of roller coaster rides develop through a combination of ups and downs, much like the stages of a relationship. Initial contact came the ...show more content... After our relationship moved beyond involvement, his protective instincts overpowered everything. I actually welcomed this protection as a sign of his caring for me since I always wanted a guy to protect me from conflict, just like in the movies. However, this overprotection stifled me and made me feel guilty whenever my communications with another guy made John jealous and angry. He tested my feelings for him by making me feel guilty about even looking in the direction of other guys. At the time, I ignored his jealousy because my strong feelings for him overshadowed my own needs as an individual. Looking back, I realize our involvement actually intensified, for the better and the worse. John evolved into my best friend and, wrapping myself in his world, I lost my core group of friends. We had reached interpersonal commitment. All of my time belonged to John. We went to events and hung out according to his time frame, with little consideration for my time. All John needed to say was "no, I don't want to do that," and I respected his decision. Looking back, I realize how little John respected me. Our relationship grew in predictability as we learned each other's schedules, emotions, and family habits. Dates always went the same way, involving dinner with his family followed by a rented movie. Our interactions never involved social bonding beyond our families. Instead, moments of novelty, like rock Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As we stopped pain shot up my left leg like a bullet. I looked automatically to my right. Nobody was there. My best friend Simon would usually stand there, as he had in the war before, I could imagine the grin on his face. The images of all those years ago started to play in my mind... It began when we were assembled in the safety of the trench. Then we heard those dreaded words that can make a man throw up with fear for his life. "Go! Over the top men, go!" I froze, not breathing, not even blinking I was paralysed, standing there motionless, my legs as solid as...show more content... Then, turning my head again I saw Simon dive to my aid. He did not utter a single word but just gave a faint grin then promptly looked down at my leg and set to work. He freed me and with a little help I made it to the safety of the next shell hole. I owed him my life. Simon refused to stop. He climbed up again to help the others. I tried to tug him back but my efforts were worthless; seen as I was wounded. Gun shots and shell fire pounded my ears like a right hand from a heavy weight boxer. I will never forget the next sound I heard. I knew it was the end so I looked up at the morning sun and prayed towards the heavens. I could hear the screams penetrating throughout my mind. Now I'm standing here about to march on to fight in another war, fighting for my dear friend. When will man kind learn? Now, however, I fear this time I might not be so lucky, especially now, without Simon, who I did not even get a chance to thank for saving my life. Now I try to put the thoughts out of my mind with a tear in my eye turning away from the other soldiers so they cannot see. I can see a large church in front of me and can hear the sounds of children playing. I begin to think about the contrast. The young, blameless children playing happily with each other only a short distance away from where us, the adults are contemplating what lies ahead hideously slaughtering the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. A Narrative Essay About Moving To A New Country Bags and bags of packages were traveling to the opposite side of the world during the summer of 2009, and it was time to get settled down again, in an unfamiliar environment. It was strange when I took my first step into this new country––a place where I have never been to before. Three weeks later, school in elementary was starting. It was awkward for me to go to school, due to the reason of me being shy and still not used to the new environment, I did not know any English at that time, and wasn't able to communicate with anyone, I was only capable of communicating through my body languages. It was stressful not being able to say things that I wanted to say, but people were nice to me, and as time goes by, I'm starting to learning English little by little....show more content... • 11. Narrative: a Memorable Event. Essay Narrative: A memorable event. I woke to my body jittering with anxiety. It was 7 o'clock on a Saturday morning, and it was the day that I had been awaiting for. I was almost ready when my Dad shouted '' Ya betta get ya'self moving Kertesha, we're gonna be late!''. I paused, and took one last look at myself in the mirror. My hair was scraped back, my polo necked fleece was suffocating and itchy, my black ribbed jodhpurs were tight around my midriff, but there was one thing missing. It was one thing which all the girls on the internet, in the movies, and in all the equestrian magazines had – A gilet. Mine was a pink Abercrombie & Fitch one, with ribbed salmon trims around the waistband and collar; it was not a real equestrian gilet,...show more content... Although the smell of the manure was strong, over time I began to appreciate it, and so it became more of an aroma, than an odour. But this is something my Dad never seemed to get used, to let alone appreciate. The entire stable had a rather odd smell; it was a mixture of hay, cut grass, dust, manure, and oddly, a hint of leather. This was a smell which I soon became very fond of. There were six of us in the group, we were all new to Dulwhich Riding School and filled with enthusiasm. After being handed our riding hats, we were alphabetically permitted to choose a horse, and as always, I was last in the alphabet. I was left with a choice of two, one was a blue roan filly. She was a young slate coloured horse who reminded me of Eeyore (from Winnie the Pooh), and was also a lot smaller than the other horses. Then I saw the attractive sorrel coloured gelding, he stood glaring at me with his head poking out of the barn gate. His mane was dark and silky, and he had a striking white birthmark on the bridge of his nose. Cashmere was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. How To Write A Narrative Essay On Roller Coasters I remember when I went to six flags I was scared to ride roller coasters. I would walk around watching my family getting on roller coasters having fun while I stayed on the ground. Until my mom convinced me to get on one with her. At first I was sacred as the roller coaster was going up. But as it started to go down I felt a rush of excitement. After the first ride I could not stop; I got on ride after ride. The rides were something I never experienced in life before.I saw the biggest ride of all and waited a while because the lane was long. When it was finally time for me to get on I started to have second thoughts. But I knew if did not ride this I would be to scared to do it the rest of my life. • 13. How Navratri Changed My Life "Son, I doubt you will find a girl of your choice!" My mom said these words on a lighter note when I said, "I won't learn how to dance, I am afraid of people criticizing me." Then at the age of ten I was so rigid that I avoided learning new things even though my mom tried in every possible way. I THOUGHT to practice dancing because I wanted to keep her happy. However, the more I danced the more I enjoyed it and within two days I danced with my mother during a festival called Navratri. Dancing with her gave me an experience I never knew before. I didn't dance that great but, I felt more alive, happy and most importantly, I felt that I was bonded with my mother in a meaningful way. That day I gained an important lesson– never stop learning and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. "Distracted by his charm, his wit, his intelligence, and – yes – his murderer's fancy prose style, we may momentarily forget that he is indeed the monster he says he is" (Rivers and Nicol 153). In his "On a Book Entitled Lolita", Vladimir Nabokov recalls that he felt the "first little throb of Lolita" run through him as he read a newspaper article about an ape who, "after months of coaxing by a scientist, produced the first drawing ever charcoaled by an animal: this sketch showed the bars of the poor creature's cage." The image of a confinement so complete that it dominates and shapes artistic expression (however limited that expression may be) is a moving and powerful one, and it does, indeed, reflect in the...show more content... Through his language, he creates a distance between Dolores and Lolita, between the child and the "solipsized" creature upon whom he can "safely" impose his sexual desire. Humbert's version is a blend of several tightly connected, often conflicting personal images. Some are the products of his own imagination, while others stem from classic works of literature or popular songs. He makes no effort to separate these images, but shifts rapidly from one to another as the narrative demands. They come together to form a new Lolita, one who is only Humbert's projection of the original, one who possesses only those qualities that he imposes upon her, and who shows no evolution beyond that which he allows her. Lolita's primary frame, and the most persistently reductive, is that of the nymphet. Humbert claims that this category is not his own creation but a specific natural quality to which he has assigned a clever name. It is well defined, if difficult to accurately describe, and it pre–exists its members: Between the age limits of nine and fourteen there occur maidens who, to certain bewitched traveler... reveal their true nature which is not human, but nymphic (that is, demoniac); and these chosen creatures I propose to designate "nymphets".... Between those age limits, are all girl–children nymphets? Of course not. Otherwise, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Narrative Essay On A Journey Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end. For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons and how to stay focused on what really matters. My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always want to play but didn't know how. I would always ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new instrument. However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he practiced, so I decided to join the class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand the notes because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit. However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by day. Overtime, I learned that you can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how progress is important to reach my end goal. I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play guitar while learning new and more songs to play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another reason I stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought that I would never be able to play an instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Literacy Narrative Essay example At this point in my life I find myself in an interesting predicament regarding my attitudes toward reading and writing; more so towards reading. Years ago I used to love reading books for pleasure but nowadays I find myself reading things that little to no effort to digest. This includes the very basic posts on facebook expressing one's opinion on something or articles and threads on reddit discussing topics I find intriguing. Perhaps it's the severe senioritis that has overcome me as I enter my last semester at Chapman University. As I've gotten lazier I can see it start to reflect in my everyday life. Deep down I still love to read but I rarely find myself getting truly invested into the action unless it relates to something I am very...show more content... You can feed the mind as much as you want and it will never get full of reading. Sadly, I'm not the same person that I was. I guess you could say it's part of growing up. It never really was intentional but it's just the way how it ended up. On the other hand my attitudes toward writing are very different. First let me say that deep down I truly do not like to write. I myself don't personally like to write for leisure or pleasure but rather I write because I believe it is one of the most important aspects of being able to communicate with those around you, both personally and professionally. To put differently, my attitude towards writing is that I write because I need to write and survive in the world around me. I write because I have to, not because I want to. Hopefully this somewhat makes sense. To better explain let me make a comparison. When I am assigned a writing assignment or I am writing because the action is being forced upon me I find myself not enjoying the process and overall the end result is subpar. The perfect example of this would be my junior year in high school when I was enrolled in AP english literature. I dreaded the majority of the class simply because there was so much writing involved in the entire course and therefore I was constantly writing just to get a grade. Being forced to write in such high volume every week for an entire school year was not enjoyable for myself and as a result the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay on Personal Narrative: White Water Rafting Personal Narrative: White Water Rafting I remember a time in my life not too long ago when my family and I went white water rafting for the first time. We had been spending some of our summer vacation at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains, close to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The next day we would experience feelings of exhilarating excitement, with a sense of suspense and anticipation as we rafted down the Nantahala River. I recall in vivid detail the scenery around us as we embarked on our perilous journey down the Nantahala. We arrived at the drop–off point in the early afternoon the next day. The sweet smell of fresh pine trees was floating in the air and a soft midsummer breeze was brushing against our faces. After receiving...show more content... The water was icy cold, cold enough to make you tremble to the bone. I don't think water surrounding an iceberg in the arctic could have been any colder. Each time I was splashed, thoughts of hypothermia flashed through my head. Our raft almost sank a few times because of the constant splashing of water into our raft. Each time we passed a stretch of rapids, and especially when we made it to the top of each fall a sense of anticipation would come over me I didn't know what would happen next. There was always a chance that our raft might hit a boulder and flip, or that someone might fall out. We were always passing these jagged rocks and giant boulders that could have easily flipped our raft or got us stuck. Some of the rocks were sharp enough to give you a bad gash or even break a bone if you hit them with enough force. Many rafts floating aside us were caught on big boulders, and they had a hard time getting there raft loose and back in the water. There were only one or two very unfortunate groups of people that had the misfortune of accidentally flipping their rafts. Our guide kept screaming out orders telling us which way to paddle or lean to keep us from flipping. Luckily, we never did. Finally, after rafting for what seemed like an hour, we reached the last fall. It was by far the largest and most dangerous on the entire river. Towering high above all the other falls, it stood apart from the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. The Magnitude of Ramadan Essay The Five Pillars of Islam are the framework of Islamic life. First off, a Muslim must have faith in Allah and believe that there is only one Allah and Muhammad is His messenger. Next, a Muslim has the duty to pray five times each day, which is considered to be a direct link between him and Allah. Third, a Muslim must distribute alms and help the needy. Fourth, a Muslim is responsible to keep the Fast of Ramadan. Lastly, a Muslim is obligated to make a pilgrimage to Mecca in his lifetime. Most non– Islamic people do not know why these pillars are so important to the Islamic religion. Many more Muslims attend Mosques during Ramadan because they believe that Allah will help them understand the essentials of life. Throughout Ramadan all Muslims are strictly obligated to pray five times each day and, in addition, attend Mosque and have a nightly prayer, called Taraween, which is two to three times as long as the usual daily prayers. Along with praying, Muslims celebrate significant days in the month. "On the evening of the 27th day of the month, Muslims celebrate the Laylat–al–Qadr (the Night of Power)" (Zahid). This night is Jafari 3 celebrated because it is believed by all Muslims that it was the night that Muhammad first received the revelation of the Quran and the night when Allah determines the future of the world for the next year. By celebrating nights like this along with praying at home and in a Mosque, a Muslim becomes much closer to Allah and in return gets to know their own identity much better. Reading out of the Quran and worshipping Allah is one of the most important things to do during the Fast of Ramadan. Along with gaining self discipline, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Essay On Bhagavad Gita Chapter 3: The Bhagavad–Gita The Bhagavad–Gita is considered as one of the oldest religious writings in the whole world. Hindus believe that it contains God's message, similar to the Bible and the Quran. In general, this scripture is a dialogue between the Supreme God and one of his devotees. This conversation was originally recorded in Sanskrit, but it has been translated to many languages over the years. This particular religious scripture is full of ancient myths, legends, traditions, and other writings. Its content is closely connected to Krishna's life here on earth. Brahman lived on earth as Krishna in order to defeat evil and encourage humans to practice dharma (i.e. righteous living). He left his message in the form of Bhagavad–Gita so that humans will have a clear guideline as to how to live their lives. The conversation between Krishna and Arjuna can play an important role in minimizing the pain and suffering experienced by every human being. The core principles of the Bhagavad–Gita serve as the foundation of Hinduism. Its pages contain Brahman's message regarding faith, detachment, devotion, correct knowledge, and performance of tasks.
