Impact Of Extracurricular Activities On Students
Extracurricular activities are offered in almost all schools and universities. You can engage in extracurricular activities as young kindergarten up to
your adulthood and even beyond that. These activities come in different forms like sports, clubs, fraternities and sororities, youth groups and other
social events. This paper is mainly about how extracurricular activities affect the students. In the research paper of Nikki Wilson, Impact of
Extracurricular Activities on Students, it says there that students who participate in extracurricular activities benefit from the opportunities that it has
presented them. One of these benefits is having better grades. My friends Julie and Alex answered in the survey I prepared that having extracurricular
activities challenge them to get good grades because if they do not, they will be required to drop their extracurricular activities and they want to set a
good example. Having to keep up their grades so that they can participate in their chosen...show more content...
I try to balance both so that I can still study, attend, play, and destress. I feel like if I did not have any kind of activity or if I just focus on school, I
think that I will get lower grades than I do now because I won't have anything to look forward to and I won't have anything to motivate me to do better
in school. Extracurricular activities also affects the student's behavior. In the article Positive Effects of Extra Curricular Activities on Students by Erin
Massoni, she said that extracurricular activities reduce behavioral problems of students. The reason is because from their activities, they learn to value
and take pride in their accomplishments. This leads to self–respect, a higher self–esteem, and confidence. Also, when students have activities after
school, which is more or less at three o'clock, they are less likely to commit violent

It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in these activities improve their academic scores and
social life. Extracurricular activities can also help reduce many peer pressure related problems. "They enrich the lives of the students, their families and
our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and talents are because they have been exposed to such
opportunities" (Extracurricular Activities, Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do outside
of school. What are extracurricular activities? Extracurricular activities are those sponsored by and usually held at school but...show more content...
Many activities also require a minimum grade point average (GPA) to join (Dowshen). This requirement is a boost for most of the students to excel
in school so they can participate in these activities. Although extracurricular activities take up a lot of time they are worth the time that a student puts
into it (Extracurricular Activities). So why are extracurricular activities important? Extracurricular activities shape how a person acts within him or
herself, in the community, and their performance in school. Schools should highly encourage every student to be in some type of activity (Hollrah).
Although extracurricular activities can help improve students' academics, they can also have a bad effect on how grades turn out. Extracurricular
activities take time, and this can affect on how much time the student has to complete home work or study (Wells). This can lead to a student doing
poorly on tests and in the big run, failing the class which will hurt the student college applications. If a student that is involved in a sport is badly
injured, this can affect the student because he or she is missing school, and then all the work that is missed will have to be made up. Stress is also a
big factor that is put together with extracurricular activities. Stress can affect how the child does in school; if a student is stressed out, they can get
sick. Being sick requires the child to stay home and then they will

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities
Teens need to be in Extracurricular Activities
Extracurricular activities have a lasting impact on students that extend far beyond the high school years. Participating in these activities offers students
the chance to try something new and learn what they most love to do. Being exposed to different sports, clubs and opportunities also broadens a
person's horizons and opens up their mind to new and different ways of seeing the world. This exposure helps them learn to get along with others,
problem solve and work together in a group setting. In addition, choosing sports as an extracurricular activity keeps teens focussed, healthy and fit. All
students should be required to take an extracurricular activity outside of school because it brings balance into their lives.
According to Unigo, a college admissions advice website, some of the most popular extracurricular activities include debate, language clubs, orchestra
and various physical sports. Activities such as these lead to developing life skills that will be useful far beyond high school or college and will carry a
student into the workplace and throughout life. Participating in these activities helps students learn about their own preferences and ways that they
enjoy spending their time. It could develop into a lifelong hobby or a source of stress management.
Participating in sports has important health benefits that helps balance out the amount of time students spend sitting in class all day. The average
school day is

The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
Despite the belief of extracurricular activities harming students, they can actually be beneficial. Extracurricular activities help students by helping them
learn how to manage time more efficiently and improve academics. There are social benefits, benefits outside of school, and benefits after school and
they help develop students and make them became what they will be in the future. Extracurricular activities more definitely benefit the students and
even the school. Extracurricular activities can help students by helping them learn how to manage time more efficiently and improve academics.
Students learn how to balance their activities and school work appropriately, this helps the student get their homework done on time and limit
procrastination (Jackson). With less time to do homework, students work more efficiently, this limits those late night homework sessions, because
students will make sure their work is done. When participating in an extracurricular activity, students might find that they have less time to work, so to
compensate they plan out when they will complete their homework, showing responsibility, and time management (Why Extracurricular).
Responsibility and good time management are beneficial because it shows that you know how to manage your time to complete things before they are
due. According to Nicole Jackson, "Studies have shown that students who participate in co–curricular activities have a marked improvement in the
grades. This can be attributed

My Life Of Extracurriculars
The Life of Extracurriculars Have you ever felt like that one kid who just doesn't do anything? The kid that was in just one extracurricular and a
lame one at that. Well, that was me until fifth grade. I joined girl scouts when I was in kindergarten. I enjoyed it and made new friends, but suddenly,
our leaders kept leaving. We got new leaders yearly until Katie's mom decided to stick with us. I had been liking it so far, but then infifth grade,
everything changed. When I was in fifth grade, I wasn't really friends with anyone. The only people I knew was this guy I PREVIOUSLY had a crush
on and Myra. I only knew Myra a little bit because we talked a minuscule amount in fourth grade. When the year started out, I had to make new
friends. I also wanted to try a sport that year instead of just girl scouts. I talked to a few people and narrowed my choices down to either skating or
basketball. I am the cheap kid in the family, so when I compared prices, I immediately went with basketball. Once I decided on basketball, I realized I
had missed the sign–ups. I was freaking out because I really wanted to play, but I thought I had missed my chance. Bali and Olga, the two people who
convinced me to join in the first place, reassured me that it would be ok and I would get to play. I wasn't very good at basketball to start out with. I
am also pretty antisocial when it comes to people I don't know well. At practice, I would only talk to Bali and Olga and was pretty shy about practicing

Common App Essay: My Parent's Recent Divorce
Common App Essay
I remember the eleven hour car ride from Massachusetts down to Virginia like it was yesterday. It was the summer after my Sophomore year of high
school when my father announced that he had enrolled me in a program at Hargrave Military Academy located in Chatham, Virginia. My report card
arrived in the mail the prior week and it was clear that my grades were not consistent. The impact of my parent's recent divorce was reflected in my
unsteady grades. My father reiterated to me that I need to prepare for college and improve my studying habits. After doing some research online, I
agreed that Hargrave could be my chance to return to public school with a fresh start. I did not know what to expect when I arrived at Hargrave. I

Academics vs Extracurricular Activities
Chapter I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study School is a second home for students; the first thing that comes up in one's mind when they
think of it is all about academic performance. But school is not just about studying; it is also a place to get along with other people. They can do many
things here. That's why inside of it, organizations were built, wherein it organizes activities in which it became an instruments to find new friends and
to learn new things. With these extra–curricular activities, it can also help an individual to enhance one's talents. Generally, according to second year
accounting students of San Beda College, extra–curricular activities has a big impact when it comes to their academic performance like their time

Researchers do believe that this research will help students to motivate them to join extra–curricular organizations without the doubt that it may affect
their academic performances. Chapter II THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK This chapter presents all the related literatures and
studies, which serves as a foundation for the completion of this study. The theories and topics discussed here were articles that tackle about the Positive
Effects of Extra–Curricular Activities in the studies of the 2nd year Accountancy students of San Beda College and other topics related to this. There
is a saying that says, "You cannot serve to two maestros at the same time." But this one should not always be true. How can you excellently perform
two tasks from different world? Is your schedule gives you ways to perform multi–tasking? Time management, is what you need to learn from the very
beginning. According to Mckown H. (1952), in his book "Extra–Curricular Activities", the objectives of having extra–curricular activities were: to
maximize the use of the importance and the benefits of studying, to prepare students in an active lifestyle in the democracy, to learn an individual from
their own capabilities, to learn how to deal and interact with other people, to increase the interests of a student in school, to enhance the morality in
school, to enrich the importance of the law and to discover and enhance ones skills and abilities. From the article of Mark

Why Are Extracurricular Activities Important
The Importance of Extracurricular Activities Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at
you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started
life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those
in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because
they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular...show

It is as if students have less time to engage in trouble when involved with these activities. While being involved in extracurricular activities outside
of school benefits your personal being, it also benefits your education. One of these reasons is because in order to participate in the first place,
you can not have failing grades. It has also been proven that students involved in extracurricular activities generally have a higher GPA than those
who do not. The College Board stated, "extracurricular activities help you show colleges who you are". It is said that your personal extracurricular
activities can really benefit you on a college application. Colleges expect more than just high grades and test scores, they actually want to see who
you are and what you do with your time, because what you do with your free time reveals a person (College Board). Students who participate are
also more likely to go to college (Klitsch). It was also described by the WNCN staff (a t.v. news station in North Carolina) during an interview with a
college dean that college applications with extracurricular activities triumph over ones without. That could be a great reason to get involved. Being
involved in extracurricular activities can be beneficial educationally as well as socially, too. According to K. Nola Mokeyane in her article on the

Have you ever wanted your school to be involved in all of your extracurricular activities? It could help you get scholarships and have an impressive
academic resume but it can also have many consequences too. Schools should not be involved in student's extracurricular activities because it can
make grades suffer, make the student stressed and cause health problems. Schools should not have any involvement with student's extracurricular
activities because it can stress onto to the student. A student can be too focused on doing one out of their three extracurricular activities that they
forgot to study for their huge Unit test and complete their homework that is due tomorrow. The student can start to stress about how they maybe
will not do as well on the test as they hoped for because they didn't have a lot of time to study for it. For example, I tend to go to junior class
meetings after school and they usually end around 3:30. My walk home is 20 minutes long and I would get home around 4 but if the meeting runs
longer I don't get home until close to 5. I would have so much homework to do and would have to study for test and quizzes coming up and it would
start to stress me out because I would have to stay up late. After that, I would stress about me staying up late to complete everything because I know the
next day I would be extremely tired in school. Schools having any involvement in a student's extracurricular activities can sometimes be draining and
extremely stressful.

Extracurricular Application
How Important Are Extracurricular Activities for your college application? Do schools really care what clubs you joined, what sports you played, what
charity you may have volunteered for, or what musical instrument you possibly tried to master?
What exactly are colleges looking for when they ask you for all the activities, clubs, positions, events and charities you have (perhaps) participated in
during your high school career?
I would like to answer this question today, based on my own experience as a former Harvard University interviewer (and as a Harvard graduate,
myself). In terms of extracurricular activities, admissions officers are looking for a point–of–entry into your personality. They want to find something

Your goal is to make those colors, that paint– your portrait – as original and interesting as possible.
Especially if you are applying to the Ivy League.
The following is probably the most important thing I can say, and something you may not ever read elsewhere, as it is certainly an insider tip: Ivy
League schools are looking for ORIGINAL THINKERS.
Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, and University of Pennsylvania. These are the 8 schools that make up the Ivy
League, and to get into any of them, not only do you have to have the grades, the test scores, and the proper level of classes, but you need to
demonstrate ORIGINAL THOUGHT.
These schools pride themselves on developing the next leaders of the world –– economically, politically, and in the arts and sciences. Going back to the
question then –– you will be ahead of the game if your extracurricular activities are unique and demonstrate your individuality. Your ability to stand out
from the pack.
It is this, your own personal voice and interests that make you a unique and powerful future leader, in whatever your

Effects Of Extracurricular Activities Essay
Extracurricular activities refer to activities that provide opportunities for students to develop specific skills or knowledge, and take place outside of
school hours. Extracurricular activities offer experiences of teamwork and support the development of many social, cognitive, and physical skills of the
students. By joining extracurricular activities, the students learn to manage their time, relieve stress and learn to strive for excellence in more than one
thing.
Extracurricular activities are found in all levels of our schools in many different forms. They can be sports, clubs, debate, theatre, school publications,
students newspaper, music, art, dance, scout, and other social events. Extracurricular are totally voluntary, so the students...show more content...
The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school completion, positive aspects to become successful
adults, and a social aspect (Massoni, 2011). Students that actively participate in extracurricular activities have reduced behavior problems. The students
who participate in extracurricular will show good self–discipline. They also have responsibility to perform the task correctly. When students perform
these things correctly, they are rewarded for their good behavior and they take pride in their accomplishments. Because of the pride they achieve, they
gain better self–respect, self–esteem, and self–confidence.
The other effect of extracurricular activities for students is the social aspect. Students that are involved in extracurricular activities meet many new
people. By joining extracurricular activities, the students will meet people that they share interests with. In extracurricular activities, students also learn
about group work, and sometimes they end up having less conformity to gender

The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities
The benefits of extracurricular activities is extensive. The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades,
school completion, positive aspects to become successful adults, and a social aspect. (Massoni, 2011). There are greater positives than negatives with
participation in extracurricular activities.
One benefit is to learn about time management and prioritizing things in their life (Burgess, 2009). Adolescents need to learn how to be a handle the
multiple responsibilities which will give them vital experience by participating in these activities (Burgess, 2009). Participating in extracurricular
activities provides positive aspects that students need to become productive students and adults (Massoni, 2011). By participating in extracurricular
activities students learn lessons in leadership, teamwork, organization, analytical thinking, problem solving, time management, learning to juggle many
tasks at once which can allow them to discover their talents at young age for preparation in their future (Massoni, 2011).
When a student decides they want to join an extracurricular activity, they look for one that interests them and one that they like or enjoy. It is important
for students to join and participate in extracurricular activities because it helps the student when they apply to colleges (Burgess, 2009). By being able
to show excellent grades as well as participation in extracurricular activities, the student is

ESSAY OUTLINE Introductory Paragraph: General Statement: A common misconception among adults is that extracurricular activities interfere with
their children's education and have no overall benefit, but recent research and studies beg to differ. Claim 1: Students' should be engaged in
extra–curricular activities because it instills in them valuable life skills and character traits needed for a successful future. Claim 2:Students' should
participate in extra–curricular activities as doing so would make it easier for them to get into the post–secondary education or workplace they desire.
Claim 3: Involvement in extra–curricular activities should occur among students because it acts as a pathway to better grades. Thesis: Students' should
be involved in extracurricular activities as they assist in strengthening both their academic and character development, leading to future success. Body
Paragraph One: Topic Sentence (Claim 1): Students' should be part of extracurricular activities because it provides for them important life skills and
character traits needed for future success. Evidence: "One important benefit would be the building of solid relationship and interpersonal skills,

Principals have a lot of responsibilities. They are responsible for taking care of their school and students' well being. Students also have a lot of
responsibilities. They have to learn and remember information, keep up with all of their classes, and pile in their homework after everything. Why
add onto everyone's responsibilities? Making extracurricular activities mandatory will not take any pressure off of a principal or their students. I
disagree that it should be mandatory for students to participate in extracurricular activities. One problem with mandatory extracurricular activities is
scheduling issues. Some students have to work after school. They need to go to their jobs so they will not get fired. Why should students have to
risk losing their jobs? Adults have jobs and they are not being forced to do something instead, what makes the two different? As well as having jobs,
some students have to watch their younger siblings or babysit other kids after school. If they are at school longer than the younger kids, who is going

Mandatory is a word that people, especially kids, hate to hear. Children are bossed around all day, everyday and they are tired of being told what to
do; therefore, they would just like to have a choice of what they would like to do after school. Extracurricular activities are supposed to be fun, but if
they are forced to do one then they will not enjoy them as much. There will be a lot of complaining, the students don't want another hour or so of
school. Teachers complain about the students' complaining but then they will have to deal with more of it outside of school. The students want to go
home and relax, do their homework, and prepare for the next day. What they do not want to do is be forced to stay in school longer. Students may feel
trapped in school for longer than they need to

INTRODUCTION
More than half of American teenagers attending school participate in some type of extracurricular activities (Gardner, Roth and Brooks–Gunn, 2006).
Extracurricular activities can include sports, journalism, drama or theater, art or music, youth groups, student council, and clubs. Today about one in
four students participate in academics clubs (Miller & Zittleman, 2012). Since extracurricular activities are so popular among students, it is important
to understand the pros and cons of engaging in extracurricular activities.
The purpose of this literature review is to examine the benefits and costs of extracurricular activities. First, I discuss how participating in extracurricular
activities benefits students. Among the benefits I discuss are academic performance, enhanced self esteem, and respectful behavior. Secondly, I will
discuss the cost of participating in extracurricular activities. The costs I discuss are time management, and expenses.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITES Students who participate in extracurricular activities usually benefit from the many opportunities granted to them
(Israel 2010). More than half of American teenagers–attending high schools participate in some type of extracurricular activities (Gardner, Roth &

The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities
Extra–curriculars are beneficial towards one's life and future. It has been proven by researchers that extra–curricular activities raise academics, enhance
certain life skills, and provide an overall healthier life style, with the addition of it improving college opportunities. Surveys have also demonstrated that
participating in these activities can assist you in graduating high school on time. Academics are greatly improved when being involved in these
curriculars. A program named "SKATERS" benefits at

They learn respect and they gradually start to gain self–esteem, which improves social, personal and academic performance. (Extracurricular Activities
and Academic Grades) This, certain skills of life are raised because of participation in extra–curricular activities. Moreover, extra–curriculars provide an
overall healthier lifestyle. Extra–curriculars could tell show that students are devoted to more things than just themselves. ParentSpot even notes, "The
activities that teens choose to take part in outside of the classroom tell prospective schools much more than grades on paper." (The Importance of

successfully. (The Importance of Extracurricular Activities for Teens) "Participation also shows the student's ability to balance all areas of his life."
(Extracurricular Activities and Academic Grades) Generally speaking, a healthier lifestyle is gained when participating in extra–curricular activities.
Now, when it comes to colleges, extra–curriculars would be beneficial whilst applying. ParentSpot states, "College admissions officers are looking for
students who have applied themselves academically during the high school years and have used their free time in enriching ways..." The interpretation
of this is that extra–curriculars would indeed be great for college applications. (The Importance of Extracurricular

As kids get into high school, most parents hope that their kids will join some kind of club or team. A question parents might ask is, "How involved
should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they even be involved at all?" Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising
depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans participating in. Many studies have been
conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college
applications. "They won 't know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly notice a lack of notable activities on your
college application"(Extracurricular Activity). When admissions offices for colleges are looking at students' applications for their school, the first
thing they look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next criteria is the amount of work or
activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions
office will look at the extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. The student that has done more outside of the classroom
will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing against. "...maintaining good grades will look better on a college

Impact Of Extracurricular Activities On Students

  • 1. Impact Of Extracurricular Activities On Students Extracurricular activities are offered in almost all schools and universities. You can engage in extracurricular activities as young kindergarten up to your adulthood and even beyond that. These activities come in different forms like sports, clubs, fraternities and sororities, youth groups and other social events. This paper is mainly about how extracurricular activities affect the students. In the research paper of Nikki Wilson, Impact of Extracurricular Activities on Students, it says there that students who participate in extracurricular activities benefit from the opportunities that it has presented them. One of these benefits is having better grades. My friends Julie and Alex answered in the survey I prepared that having extracurricular activities challenge them to get good grades because if they do not, they will be required to drop their extracurricular activities and they want to set a good example. Having to keep up their grades so that they can participate in their chosen...show more content... I try to balance both so that I can still study, attend, play, and destress. I feel like if I did not have any kind of activity or if I just focus on school, I think that I will get lower grades than I do now because I won't have anything to look forward to and I won't have anything to motivate me to do better in school. Extracurricular activities also affects the student's behavior. In the article Positive Effects of Extra Curricular Activities on Students by Erin Massoni, she said that extracurricular activities reduce behavioral problems of students. The reason is because from their activities, they learn to value and take pride in their accomplishments. This leads to self–respect, a higher self–esteem, and confidence. Also, when students have activities after school, which is more or less at three o'clock, they are less likely to commit violent Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. It is important for adolescents to participate in extracurricular activities. Student who participate in these activities improve their academic scores and social life. Extracurricular activities can also help reduce many peer pressure related problems. "They enrich the lives of the students, their families and our communities. These activities create well rounded children who learn what their interests and talents are because they have been exposed to such opportunities" (Extracurricular Activities, Blogadmin). For most adolescents extracurricular activities should be required among what they do outside of school. What are extracurricular activities? Extracurricular activities are those sponsored by and usually held at school but...show more content... Many activities also require a minimum grade point average (GPA) to join (Dowshen). This requirement is a boost for most of the students to excel in school so they can participate in these activities. Although extracurricular activities take up a lot of time they are worth the time that a student puts into it (Extracurricular Activities). So why are extracurricular activities important? Extracurricular activities shape how a person acts within him or herself, in the community, and their performance in school. Schools should highly encourage every student to be in some type of activity (Hollrah). Although extracurricular activities can help improve students' academics, they can also have a bad effect on how grades turn out. Extracurricular activities take time, and this can affect on how much time the student has to complete home work or study (Wells). This can lead to a student doing poorly on tests and in the big run, failing the class which will hurt the student college applications. If a student that is involved in a sport is badly injured, this can affect the student because he or she is missing school, and then all the work that is missed will have to be made up. Stress is also a big factor that is put together with extracurricular activities. Stress can affect how the child does in school; if a student is stressed out, they can get sick. Being sick requires the child to stay home and then they will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Importance Of Extracurricular Activities Teens need to be in Extracurricular Activities Extracurricular activities have a lasting impact on students that extend far beyond the high school years. Participating in these activities offers students the chance to try something new and learn what they most love to do. Being exposed to different sports, clubs and opportunities also broadens a person's horizons and opens up their mind to new and different ways of seeing the world. This exposure helps them learn to get along with others, problem solve and work together in a group setting. In addition, choosing sports as an extracurricular activity keeps teens focussed, healthy and fit. All students should be required to take an extracurricular activity outside of school because it brings balance into their lives. According to Unigo, a college admissions advice website, some of the most popular extracurricular activities include debate, language clubs, orchestra and various physical sports. Activities such as these lead to developing life skills that will be useful far beyond high school or college and will carry a student into the workplace and throughout life. Participating in these activities helps students learn about their own preferences and ways that they enjoy spending their time. It could develop into a lifelong hobby or a source of stress management. Participating in sports has important health benefits that helps balance out the amount of time students spend sitting in class all day. The average school day is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Benefits Of Extracurricular Activities Despite the belief of extracurricular activities harming students, they can actually be beneficial. Extracurricular activities help students by helping them learn how to manage time more efficiently and improve academics. There are social benefits, benefits outside of school, and benefits after school and they help develop students and make them became what they will be in the future. Extracurricular activities more definitely benefit the students and even the school. Extracurricular activities can help students by helping them learn how to manage time more efficiently and improve academics. Students learn how to balance their activities and school work appropriately, this helps the student get their homework done on time and limit procrastination (Jackson). With less time to do homework, students work more efficiently, this limits those late night homework sessions, because students will make sure their work is done. When participating in an extracurricular activity, students might find that they have less time to work, so to compensate they plan out when they will complete their homework, showing responsibility, and time management (Why Extracurricular). Responsibility and good time management are beneficial because it shows that you know how to manage your time to complete things before they are due. According to Nicole Jackson, "Studies have shown that students who participate in co–curricular activities have a marked improvement in the grades. • 5. My Life Of Extracurriculars The Life of Extracurriculars Have you ever felt like that one kid who just doesn't do anything? The kid that was in just one extracurricular and a lame one at that. Well, that was me until fifth grade. I joined girl scouts when I was in kindergarten. I enjoyed it and made new friends, but suddenly, our leaders kept leaving. We got new leaders yearly until Katie's mom decided to stick with us. I had been liking it so far, but then infifth grade, everything changed. When I was in fifth grade, I wasn't really friends with anyone. The only people I knew was this guy I PREVIOUSLY had a crush on and Myra. I only knew Myra a little bit because we talked a minuscule amount in fourth grade. When the year started out, I had to make new friends. I also wanted to try a sport that year instead of just girl scouts. I talked to a few people and narrowed my choices down to either skating or basketball. I am the cheap kid in the family, so when I compared prices, I immediately went with basketball. Once I decided on basketball, I realized I had missed the sign–ups. I was freaking out because I really wanted to play, but I thought I had missed my chance. Bali and Olga, the two people who convinced me to join in the first place, reassured me that it would be ok and I would get to play. I wasn't very good at basketball to start out with. I am also pretty antisocial when it comes to people I don't know well. At practice, I would only talk to Bali and Olga and was pretty shy about practicing Get more content on HelpWriting.net

My activities, ranging from National Honor Society to theater, have taught me how to balance a schedule efficiently, problem solve within a group and with myself, and be more supportive of others and the betterment of my community. 4–H has been an irreplaceable part of my life for ten years. What I have learned from my experience – caring for animals, gaining knowledge of my projects, and leadership skills within my club – makes all the preparation worthwhile. 4–H emphasizes making the best better through yourself, and this lesson of consistently striving towards your full potential is valuable in all aspects of life. It was the summer after my Sophomore year of high school when my father announced that he had enrolled me in a program at Hargrave Military Academy located in Chatham, Virginia. My report card arrived in the mail the prior week and it was clear that my grades were not consistent. The impact of my parent's recent divorce was reflected in my unsteady grades. My father reiterated to me that I need to prepare for college and improve my studying habits. After doing some research online, I agreed that Hargrave could be my chance to return to public school with a fresh start. I did not know what to expect when I arrived at Hargrave. • 8. Academics vs Extracurricular Activities Chapter I INTRODUCTION Background of the Study School is a second home for students; the first thing that comes up in one's mind when they think of it is all about academic performance. But school is not just about studying; it is also a place to get along with other people. They can do many things here. That's why inside of it, organizations were built, wherein it organizes activities in which it became an instruments to find new friends and to learn new things. With these extra–curricular activities, it can also help an individual to enhance one's talents. Generally, according to second year accounting students of San Beda College, extra–curricular activities has a big impact when it comes to their academic performance like their time ...show more content... Researchers do believe that this research will help students to motivate them to join extra–curricular organizations without the doubt that it may affect their academic performances. Chapter II THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK This chapter presents all the related literatures and studies, which serves as a foundation for the completion of this study. The theories and topics discussed here were articles that tackle about the Positive Effects of Extra–Curricular Activities in the studies of the 2nd year Accountancy students of San Beda College and other topics related to this. There is a saying that says, "You cannot serve to two maestros at the same time." But this one should not always be true. How can you excellently perform two tasks from different world? Is your schedule gives you ways to perform multi–tasking? Time management, is what you need to learn from the very beginning. According to Mckown H. (1952), in his book "Extra–Curricular Activities", the objectives of having extra–curricular activities were: to maximize the use of the importance and the benefits of studying, to prepare students in an active lifestyle in the democracy, to learn an individual from their own capabilities, to learn how to deal and interact with other people, to increase the interests of a student in school, to enhance the morality in school, to enrich the importance of the law and to discover and enhance ones skills and abilities. • 9. Why Are Extracurricular Activities Important The Importance of Extracurricular Activities Imagine walking across the stage in just a few years from now. Having thousands of eyes pointed at you as you take that emotional walk to finally receive your high school diploma. After a few years when you have graduated high school and started life, you're going to look back and think, what have I accomplished so far? Extracurricular activities can be very beneficial for students now, and those in the future as well. They can allow you to feel like you have accomplished something while in school. Extracurricular activities are important because they can benefit a student through personal, educational, and even social means. It is a great idea to get more students involved in extracurricular...show more content... It is as if students have less time to engage in trouble when involved with these activities. While being involved in extracurricular activities outside of school benefits your personal being, it also benefits your education. One of these reasons is because in order to participate in the first place, you can not have failing grades. It has also been proven that students involved in extracurricular activities generally have a higher GPA than those who do not. The College Board stated, "extracurricular activities help you show colleges who you are". It is said that your personal extracurricular activities can really benefit you on a college application. Colleges expect more than just high grades and test scores, they actually want to see who you are and what you do with your time, because what you do with your free time reveals a person (College Board). Students who participate are also more likely to go to college (Klitsch). It was also described by the WNCN staff (a t.v. news station in North Carolina) during an interview with a college dean that college applications with extracurricular activities triumph over ones without. That could be a great reason to get involved. Being involved in extracurricular activities can be beneficial educationally as well as socially, too. According to K. • 10. Extracurricular Activities Essay Have you ever wanted your school to be involved in all of your extracurricular activities? It could help you get scholarships and have an impressive academic resume but it can also have many consequences too. Schools should not be involved in student's extracurricular activities because it can make grades suffer, make the student stressed and cause health problems. Schools should not have any involvement with student's extracurricular activities because it can stress onto to the student. A student can be too focused on doing one out of their three extracurricular activities that they forgot to study for their huge Unit test and complete their homework that is due tomorrow. The student can start to stress about how they maybe will not do as well on the test as they hoped for because they didn't have a lot of time to study for it. For example, I tend to go to junior class meetings after school and they usually end around 3:30. My walk home is 20 minutes long and I would get home around 4 but if the meeting runs longer I don't get home until close to 5. I would have so much homework to do and would have to study for test and quizzes coming up and it would start to stress me out because I would have to stay up late. After that, I would stress about me staying up late to complete everything because I know the next day I would be extremely tired in school. Schools having any involvement in a student's extracurricular activities can sometimes be draining and extremely stressful. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Extracurricular Application How Important Are Extracurricular Activities for your college application? Do schools really care what clubs you joined, what sports you played, what charity you may have volunteered for, or what musical instrument you possibly tried to master? What exactly are colleges looking for when they ask you for all the activities, clubs, positions, events and charities you have (perhaps) participated in during your high school career? I would like to answer this question today, based on my own experience as a former Harvard University interviewer (and as a Harvard graduate, myself). In terms of extracurricular activities, admissions officers are looking for a point–of–entry into your personality. They want to find something they can focus on, that's...show more content... Your goal is to make those colors, that paint– your portrait – as original and interesting as possible. Especially if you are applying to the Ivy League. The following is probably the most important thing I can say, and something you may not ever read elsewhere, as it is certainly an insider tip: Ivy League schools are looking for ORIGINAL THINKERS. Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, and University of Pennsylvania. These are the 8 schools that make up the Ivy League, and to get into any of them, not only do you have to have the grades, the test scores, and the proper level of classes, but you need to demonstrate ORIGINAL THOUGHT. These schools pride themselves on developing the next leaders of the world –– economically, politically, and in the arts and sciences. Going back to the question then –– you will be ahead of the game if your extracurricular activities are unique and demonstrate your individuality. Your ability to stand out from the pack. The positive effects that extracurricular activities have on students are behavior, better grades, school completion, positive aspects to become successful adults, and a social aspect. (Massoni, 2011). There are greater positives than negatives with participation in extracurricular activities. One benefit is to learn about time management and prioritizing things in their life (Burgess, 2009). Adolescents need to learn how to be a handle the multiple responsibilities which will give them vital experience by participating in these activities (Burgess, 2009). Participating in extracurricular activities provides positive aspects that students need to become productive students and adults (Massoni, 2011). By participating in extracurricular activities students learn lessons in leadership, teamwork, organization, analytical thinking, problem solving, time management, learning to juggle many tasks at once which can allow them to discover their talents at young age for preparation in their future (Massoni, 2011). When a student decides they want to join an extracurricular activity, they look for one that interests them and one that they like or enjoy. • 16. Principals have a lot of responsibilities. They are responsible for taking care of their school and students' well being. Students also have a lot of responsibilities. They have to learn and remember information, keep up with all of their classes, and pile in their homework after everything. Why add onto everyone's responsibilities? Making extracurricular activities mandatory will not take any pressure off of a principal or their students. I disagree that it should be mandatory for students to participate in extracurricular activities. One problem with mandatory extracurricular activities is scheduling issues. Some students have to work after school. They need to go to their jobs so they will not get fired. Why should students have to risk losing their jobs? Adults have jobs and they are not being forced to do something instead, what makes the two different? As well as having jobs, some students have to watch their younger siblings or babysit other kids after school. If they are at school longer than the younger kids, who is going to watch them? Little kids can not be home by themselves, if something were to...show more content... Mandatory is a word that people, especially kids, hate to hear. Children are bossed around all day, everyday and they are tired of being told what to do; therefore, they would just like to have a choice of what they would like to do after school. Extracurricular activities are supposed to be fun, but if they are forced to do one then they will not enjoy them as much. There will be a lot of complaining, the students don't want another hour or so of school. Teachers complain about the students' complaining but then they will have to deal with more of it outside of school. The students want to go home and relax, do their homework, and prepare for the next day. What they do not want to do is be forced to stay in school longer. Students may feel trapped in school for longer than they need to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Among the benefits I discuss are academic performance, enhanced self esteem, and respectful behavior. Secondly, I will discuss the cost of participating in extracurricular activities. A question parents might ask is, "How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they even be involved at all?" Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college applications. "They won 't know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly notice a lack of notable activities on your college application"(Extracurricular Activity). When admissions offices for colleges are looking at students' applications for their school, the first thing they look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions office will look at the extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. The student that has done more outside of the classroom will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing against. Extracurricular activities benefit students by helping them learn how to manage their time more efficiently and improve academics. There are social benefits, benefits outside of school, and benefits after school. They help develop students and make them became what they will be in the future. Extracurricular activities most definitely benefit the students and even the school. Extracurricular activities can help students by helping them learn how to manage their time more efficiently and improve academics. Students learn how to balance their activities and school work appropriately, this helps the student get their homework done on time and limit procrastination (Jackson). With less time to do homework, students work more efficiently, this limits those late night homework sessions, because students will make sure their work is done. When participating in an extracurricular activity, students might find that they have less time to work, so to compensate they plan out when they will complete their homework, showing responsibility, and time management ("Why Extracurricular").
