Mla Citation For Thirteen Reasons Why
"I'm listening to someone give up. Someone I knew–someone I liked. I'm listening... but still, I'm too late." Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a
book that shows just how you can never tell what people are going through. In this book, there is a girl named Hannah, and Hannah gave these 13 tapes
to thirteen different people. Another character, Clay, is telling the story from his perspective, listening to the tapes. The color blue is used a ton in the
story, as a representation for depression. "Each tape has a dark blue number painted in the upper right–hand corner, possibly with nail polish. Each side
has its own number" (5). Now, at the start of the story, Clay just got a box of tapes and opened it up to notice all of the thirteen tapes

What I Learned In Mla Format
Reflection Essay
Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also
I have learned different tools on summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of these I already
knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to
have all the right facts, and make sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will want to read your
argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. When writing an argumentative paper, its good to know all the facts about
each side. Knowing all the facts about each side is important, because people want to read...show more content...
Like summarizing, and writing an essay I knew how to do it, but going in and listening to the speaker explain it to us helped a lot. I learned more on
how to use the thesaurus, and all the different skills he taught us on using key words to looks information up.
MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some reason I could never really cite my sources that well.
Its something I knew how to do, but when it came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped me so
much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA format I learned that when quoting, if its more than three lines
you have to use block quote. I didn't know that till I got to this class.
In summary, all these skills will be helpful for my next few college years, and when I go off to get jobs. Thank you for teaching us everything you
have. From something you are supposed to teach to common sense things. You are a wonderful teacher, and I'm so glad you were my

Critical Analysis: MLA Format
Critical Analysis
For the past week we have been learning about critical analysis essays. Before coming to composition I didn't know much about critical analysis
essays, I knew they were conducted in MLA Format and they were basically a comparison between two books. After learning more in class I was
informed more in–depth about critical analysis essays. In class we were taught that critical analysis essays are to essentially be a comparison between
articles, books, and or anything else to help the reader better understand the work. Critical analysis essays are to incorporate a thesis statement to give
readers something to engage in when reading your essay, it gives some idea of what this essay is going to be about. When constructing a

MLA Rough Draft
1.When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your paper, you must document the use of those borrowed
ideas with an internal citation notation. In MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they?
In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of works cited. It commonly includes the author of the
source and a page number, and punctuation separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used. The
period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2.In MLA, if you work (include) the identity of the source into the sentence
structure, where do page numbers...show more content...
In MLA, how are the works cited entries organized on the Work(s) Cited page?
пѓ Tell me how to arrange a works cited list on the page. No example required.
пЃ¶Create a new page at the end of your paper for a "Works Cited" list. Center the words "Works Cited" at the top of the page. Double space after the
title and begin entering citations.
пЃ¶Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the title if no author is given. If a source has more than
one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered.
пЃ¶Entries are double–spaced.
пЃ¶The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces
or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent).
6.In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how does the internal citation look the first time you
create it? Use your last name and page number 123 to illustrate your answer.
To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time you cite it in your paper, using your name as the
source and page number 123 to complete your response. You don't need to write a sentence first, just show me the

Raging Bull Mla Citation
Raging Bull is a movie based on boxer Jake Lamotta. A prolific pugilist with a rage temper inside and outside the ring, who is portrayed
magnificent by Robert De Niro. When I was looking for the movie in youtube I expected a colored film but it was not. The B/W made the movie
less visual violent even though indeed it is savage. However, the movie shows the human side of a prizefighter his fears, insecurities, and madness
more than the professional in the ring himself. Jealousy based on his insecurities lead to hit his wife Vikki many times, and after 11 years together she
finally left him. I was surprised that she was still alive and beauty at that time she left him. I think it is an interesting story that show the demons that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of APA Writing Style
1. I think that having formatting standards such as APA is very necessary and useful for a clear communication. When we use an editorial style, we
remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. An author writing for a
publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without
rules of style, three different manuscripts might use sub–categories, subcategories, and Subcategories in one issue of a journal or book. Although the
meaning of the word is the same (in this case, subcategories is APA Style), such variations in style may distract or confuse the reader. To sum up the
need for a consistent style becomes more apparent when complex material is presented, such as tables or statistics.
2. There are advantages and disadvantages in using an APA style.
Let's start with benefits: One major advantage of the APA writing style is that it encourages direct exposition of your research and emphasizes your
original ideas being reported. This precision is complemented by a straightforward manuscript structure that includes a title page, abstract, body,
reference list and, if applicable, appendices. Also, APA citations include a brief reference in the body of your text paired with a fullcitation in your
reference list. Citations within the text should list last name of the author and that author's publication date, followed by a page number if the citation
involves a direct quotation. In addition, the APA writing and citation style ensures you are giving adequate credit to others for prior work and allows
the reader to easily track your references. What is more adopting the APA writing style guarantees that both the structure of your paper and the format
of your citations are consistent throughout. The clarity of your writing along with a precise citation format works to establish your credibility, and it
reflects the extent of your research.
On the other side the drawbacks in using such a style are: Firstly, the APA manual has a rule for just about every aspect of writing. You will find
instructions for the technical aspects of constructing a paper,

Compare And Contrast Mla And Apa
Also, many professors only teach us MLA style, but this class can teach us two types of essay, MLA and APA. I think that's great because APA
also is popular, it's useful for us to know these two types of essays. And from this class, I also learned that when we are writing causal assignment,
the most important reason should list at the last of all reasons rather than at the first position. At last, I have some suggestions about REVEL. I tried
to do the quiz on the revel but the website said the quiz has not been assigned. However, I used it on my society class in the first semester. So I have
some thoughts about it. Frankly, I don't think revel suits for our class, especially the quiz. The quiz always focuses on the contents in the text book,

Plagiarism Essay Examples
Taking someone's words and using them without a proper citation is a problem. Without being taught the correct way, this problem is not going to
correct itself and will continue to become a bigger problem. There are major consequences for plagiarising, but these can be avoided with a simple
citation. Tying together the definition of plagiarism, reasons for using documentation, and an explanation of MLA 8 and APA citations will all be
brought together. Learning what kind of citation, and what needs a citation is a very important concept in becoming a successful writer. Citing a source
correctly will save you time and problems.
There are many different definitions of the word plagiarism. Merriam–Webster's dictionary definition, also...show more content...
These students were taught a life lesson, something that they will never do again. Being taught, the correct way, at a young age will solve many of
the problems that we have today. Becoming aware of the consequences that this could lead to would be worth the extra time citing a document, or
writing your own paper. Taking someone's words or writing could lead to loss of job/school, fines, and so much more. To avoid these problems, a
simple citation will help anyone become aware that you did give credit to the author. Jim Carnett published an article in the Los Angeles Times stating
that he had tried to submit a column to an editor but they sent it back because it contained plagiarised material. Carnett said, "I lifted a portion of one
of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without attribution." He hadn't cited his own work and now what he did was plagiarism. To
Carnett, this was a total accident, but this shows that you should cite any information that you use. Although there are arguments that there is no such
thing as plagiarism, "If a novelist uses a non–fiction book for research, how is that stealing? Non–fiction promises facts, there is no copyright in facts,
ergo no stealing..." (Independent.co.uk) it is always best to give credit to the source that you received the information from; thus not having a chance of
plagiarism.
Having a correct citation for a source is very

The Importance of Citation
A citation is both a signpost and an acknowledgement. As a signpost, it signals the location of your source. As an acknowledgement, it reveals that you
are indebted to that source.
A citation can appear in different formats: within the text (in–text citation) at the bottom of the page (footnotes ), or at the end of the paper (endnotes).
Different disciplines use different formats. The mechanics of citing are complicated, and vary in each format. To answer specific questions on the
mechanics of citation, please consult sources describing each type.
You may find it most useful to think about how citations function as a way for you as a writer to communicate with your reader. By using citations,
you keep the reader always apprised of whose idea or words you are using at any given time in each sentence and in each paragraph.
Three Reasons Why Citation is Important
Citation is important because it is the basis of academics, that is, the pursuit of knowledge. In the academic endeavor, individuals look at evidence and
reason about that evidence in their own individual ways. That is, taking what is already known, established, or thought, they use their reasoning power
to create new knowledge. In creating this knowledge, they must cite their sources accurately for three main reasons:
Because ideas are the currency of academia
First, citing sources is important because the currency of academia is ideas. As a result, academics want to accumulate

APA Style Analysis
APA Style Sample
APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many
similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's
name and date of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is

All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence,
and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the
authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page
numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from
the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
immediately follows the author's name in parentheses, and titles of articles are not surrounded with quotation marks (however titles of books,
magazines, journals, etc are still underlined). The lists are still alphabetized by author's last name (or title in the absence of an author) and the first line
is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For journals and magazines, publication title
and volume number are both underlined,

MLA Citation for Raging Bull

  • 1. Mla Citation For Thirteen Reasons Why "I'm listening to someone give up. Someone I knew–someone I liked. I'm listening... but still, I'm too late." Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a book that shows just how you can never tell what people are going through. In this book, there is a girl named Hannah, and Hannah gave these 13 tapes to thirteen different people. Another character, Clay, is telling the story from his perspective, listening to the tapes. The color blue is used a ton in the story, as a representation for depression. "Each tape has a dark blue number painted in the upper right–hand corner, possibly with nail polish. Each side has its own number" (5). Now, at the start of the story, Clay just got a box of tapes and opened it up to notice all of the thirteen tapes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. What I Learned In Mla Format Reflection Essay Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also I have learned different tools on summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings of them. With writing an argumentative paper, it's important to have all the right facts, and make sure you have reliable sources. If you don't have the right facts or reliable sources nobody will want to read your argument; because you wont have the right facts to back up your points. When writing an argumentative paper, its good to know all the facts about each side. Knowing all the facts about each side is important, because people want to read...show more content... Like summarizing, and writing an essay I knew how to do it, but going in and listening to the speaker explain it to us helped a lot. I learned more on how to use the thesaurus, and all the different skills he taught us on using key words to looks information up. MLA format is something I have always kind of needed help with. Until this semester for some reason I could never really cite my sources that well. Its something I knew how to do, but when it came time to do it my mind went blank. When you went over everything on the bored that helped me so much (also because I took notes), but only because you told us to take them. With MLA format I learned that when quoting, if its more than three lines you have to use block quote. I didn't know that till I got to this class. In summary, all these skills will be helpful for my next few college years, and when I go off to get jobs. Thank you for teaching us everything you have. From something you are supposed to teach to common sense things. You are a wonderful teacher, and I'm so glad you were my Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Critical Analysis: MLA Format Critical Analysis For the past week we have been learning about critical analysis essays. Before coming to composition I didn't know much about critical analysis essays, I knew they were conducted in MLA Format and they were basically a comparison between two books. After learning more in class I was informed more in–depth about critical analysis essays. In class we were taught that critical analysis essays are to essentially be a comparison between articles, books, and or anything else to help the reader better understand the work. Critical analysis essays are to incorporate a thesis statement to give readers something to engage in when reading your essay, it gives some idea of what this essay is going to be about. • 4. MLA Rough Draft 1.When writing, whether you paraphrase or directly quote someone else's ideas anywhere in your paper, you must document the use of those borrowed ideas with an internal citation notation. In MLA, there are two basic features of an internal citation. What are they? In–text citation – This is a parenthetical citation within the paper that refers the reader to a list of works cited. It commonly includes the author of the source and a page number, and punctuation separates the author's last name and the page number. Nor is the abbreviation p. (for "page") used. The period that ends the sentence appears after the closing parenthesis. 2.In MLA, if you work (include) the identity of the source into the sentence structure, where do page numbers...show more content... Double space after the title and begin entering citations. пЃ¶Entries are listed alphabetically by the last name of the author or by the first major word of the title if no author is given. If a source has more than one author, it is alphabetized by the last name of the author whose name appears first. The entries are not numbered. пЃ¶Entries are double–spaced. пЃ¶The first line of each entry begins at the left margin. If more than one line is needed to complete the entry, additional lines are indented five spaces or half an inch (this is called a hanging indent). 6.In MLA, if the source's identity is not worked into (written as part of) your sentence structure, how does the internal citation look the first time you create it? Use your last name and page number 123 to illustrate your answer. To correctly answer question 6, show me (don't tell me) how an internal citation looks the first time you cite it in your paper, using your name as the source and page number 123 to complete your response. • 6. Raging Bull Mla Citation Raging Bull is a movie based on boxer Jake Lamotta. A prolific pugilist with a rage temper inside and outside the ring, who is portrayed magnificent by Robert De Niro. When I was looking for the movie in youtube I expected a colored film but it was not. The B/W made the movie less visual violent even though indeed it is savage. However, the movie shows the human side of a prizefighter his fears, insecurities, and madness more than the professional in the ring himself. Jealousy based on his insecurities lead to hit his wife Vikki many times, and after 11 years together she finally left him. I was surprised that she was still alive and beauty at that time she left him. I think it is an interesting story that show the demons that are attach to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Advantages And Disadvantages Of APA Writing Style 1. I think that having formatting standards such as APA is very necessary and useful for a clear communication. When we use an editorial style, we remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. An author writing for a publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without rules of style, three different manuscripts might use sub–categories, subcategories, and Subcategories in one issue of a journal or book. Although the meaning of the word is the same (in this case, subcategories is APA Style), such variations in style may distract or confuse the reader. To sum up the need for a consistent style becomes more apparent when complex material is presented, such as tables or statistics. 2. There are advantages and disadvantages in using an APA style. Let's start with benefits: One major advantage of the APA writing style is that it encourages direct exposition of your research and emphasizes your original ideas being reported. This precision is complemented by a straightforward manuscript structure that includes a title page, abstract, body, reference list and, if applicable, appendices. Also, APA citations include a brief reference in the body of your text paired with a fullcitation in your reference list. Citations within the text should list last name of the author and that author's publication date, followed by a page number if the citation involves a direct quotation. In addition, the APA writing and citation style ensures you are giving adequate credit to others for prior work and allows the reader to easily track your references. What is more adopting the APA writing style guarantees that both the structure of your paper and the format of your citations are consistent throughout. The clarity of your writing along with a precise citation format works to establish your credibility, and it reflects the extent of your research. On the other side the drawbacks in using such a style are: Firstly, the APA manual has a rule for just about every aspect of writing. You will find instructions for the technical aspects of constructing a paper, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Compare And Contrast Mla And Apa Also, many professors only teach us MLA style, but this class can teach us two types of essay, MLA and APA. I think that's great because APA also is popular, it's useful for us to know these two types of essays. And from this class, I also learned that when we are writing causal assignment, the most important reason should list at the last of all reasons rather than at the first position. At last, I have some suggestions about REVEL. I tried to do the quiz on the revel but the website said the quiz has not been assigned. However, I used it on my society class in the first semester. So I have some thoughts about it. Frankly, I don't think revel suits for our class, especially the quiz. The quiz always focuses on the contents in the text book, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Plagiarism Essay Examples Taking someone's words and using them without a proper citation is a problem. Without being taught the correct way, this problem is not going to correct itself and will continue to become a bigger problem. There are major consequences for plagiarising, but these can be avoided with a simple citation. Tying together the definition of plagiarism, reasons for using documentation, and an explanation of MLA 8 and APA citations will all be brought together. Learning what kind of citation, and what needs a citation is a very important concept in becoming a successful writer. Citing a source correctly will save you time and problems. There are many different definitions of the word plagiarism. Merriam–Webster's dictionary definition, also...show more content... These students were taught a life lesson, something that they will never do again. Being taught, the correct way, at a young age will solve many of the problems that we have today. Becoming aware of the consequences that this could lead to would be worth the extra time citing a document, or writing your own paper. Taking someone's words or writing could lead to loss of job/school, fines, and so much more. To avoid these problems, a simple citation will help anyone become aware that you did give credit to the author. Jim Carnett published an article in the Los Angeles Times stating that he had tried to submit a column to an editor but they sent it back because it contained plagiarised material. Carnett said, "I lifted a portion of one of my columns and inserted it in the Daily Pilot piece without attribution." He hadn't cited his own work and now what he did was plagiarism. To Carnett, this was a total accident, but this shows that you should cite any information that you use. Although there are arguments that there is no such thing as plagiarism, "If a novelist uses a non–fiction book for research, how is that stealing? Non–fiction promises facts, there is no copyright in facts, ergo no stealing..." (Independent.co.uk) it is always best to give credit to the source that you received the information from; thus not having a chance of plagiarism. Having a correct citation for a source is very Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Importance of Citation A citation is both a signpost and an acknowledgement. As a signpost, it signals the location of your source. As an acknowledgement, it reveals that you are indebted to that source. A citation can appear in different formats: within the text (in–text citation) at the bottom of the page (footnotes ), or at the end of the paper (endnotes). Different disciplines use different formats. The mechanics of citing are complicated, and vary in each format. To answer specific questions on the mechanics of citation, please consult sources describing each type. You may find it most useful to think about how citations function as a way for you as a writer to communicate with your reader. By using citations, you keep the reader always apprised of whose idea or words you are using at any given time in each sentence and in each paragraph. Three Reasons Why Citation is Important Citation is important because it is the basis of academics, that is, the pursuit of knowledge. In the academic endeavor, individuals look at evidence and reason about that evidence in their own individual ways. That is, taking what is already known, established, or thought, they use their reasoning power to create new knowledge. In creating this knowledge, they must cite their sources accurately for three main reasons: Because ideas are the currency of academia First, citing sources is important because the currency of academia is ideas. As a result, academics want to accumulate Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. APA Style Analysis APA Style Sample APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many similarities, but is unique in several key points. APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's name and date of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is ...show more content... All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565). Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence, and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote. Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date
